So I did some quick searching to try and find any stuffed rats that might have existed in the late 70s/early 80s and I was only really able to find one on an Ebay listing (and. ngl. kind of want to buy it. it's very cute.)

It's from a company called Applause, which went out of business in the 90s.

Are there, by chance, voice files of the female deputy actually speaking, or a name of the voice actor who recorded the sound effects?

The female Deputy never speaks, but it sounds to me like she has the same voice actor as one of the cultists. You can find a transcript of most of her lines in this document if you search for “CULT_FOLLOWER_FEMALE_05”. One of the Angels might be played by the same person too.

I know Randy Yuen did motion capture for the Deputy in general, and maybe the male Deputy has his voice, but there is no information about who played “CULT_FOLLOWER_FEMALE_05” and the female Deputy…

A charmed owlbear guards the captive princess in the wizard’s dungeon -- Yes, that is an owlbear wielding a polearm, presumably a misunderstanding of the lore by artist Doug Watson, overlooked by the rest of the production staff (in D&D module B9: Castle Caldwell and Beyond, TSR, 1985)

The Challenge was a series III episode of Yes Minister (1982), in which Jim Hacker’s Department of Administrative Affairs assumes general oversight of local authorities. As Ludovic Kennedy (playing himself as BBC interviewer) points out, Hacker is now ‘Mr Townhall as well as Mr Whitehall’.

Echoing the Thatcher government’s zeal to reform the local government sector, Hacker is determined to make councils more efficient and to curb their extravagance. The Cabinet Secretary and Sir Humphrey are not so keen, worried that any reforms, such as direct financial accountability for the success or failure of council projects, could be extended to the civil service as a whole.

To deflect his attention, Jim Hacker is urged to tackle the largely ridiculed and tricky business of civil defence, in particular the provision of public fall-out shelters by local authorities, and is sent to confront the leader of the London Borough of Thames Marsh, Ben Stanley, over their anti-nuclear activism and budget blowouts. Stanley was reportedly based on Ken Livingstone, leader of the ill-fated Greater London Council.

There are a couple of interesting cameos, aside from Ludovic Kennedy, and Moray Watson as a BBC controller. Ian Lavender (Private Pike from Dad’s Army) plays Dr Cartwright, a departmental economics boffin doomed to spend his entire career as a middling undersecretary. “I fear I shall rise no higher,” he explained sadly to Jim Hacker, “Alas, I’m an expert.”

Ben Stanley, the unilateralist leader of Thames Marsh Council is played by Doug Fisher (Man About the House), and is unimpressed by Cartwright’s suggestions on how to save ratepayers' money, which include closing the feminist drama centre, abandoning plans for a leisure centre featuring an artificial ski slope and jacuzzi, closing the gay bereavement centre, selling the Mayor’s second Daimler, and cancelling a councillors’ fact-finding junket to the Caribbean.

The episode lampoons the council’s hypocrisy in taking an anti-nuclear stance while providing fall-out shelter space solely for the leader and some senior councillors. Paul Eddington himself (Jim Hacker) was a Quaker pacifist, and in a later interview recalled that he was very uncomfortable with the way the writers (Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn) had ridiculed the anti-nuclear issue and peace activism, and that they had allowed their own political bias to influence the story. Eddington objected, and some moderating changes were made to the final script.

Doug sleeps with a very specific stuffed animal. It's a grey rat named Watson. Only he is allowed to touch/sleep next to him. If someone touches Watson, he'll have a breakdown. Maybe, MAYBE, he'll let his s/o touch it if he is comfortable enough.

I bet he used to talk to it when he was a kid like Watson was his audience for his science experiments. He'd explain the whole process and pretend Watson would ask questions just so he could explain some more.

I bet he still talks to Watson and tells him about his day because he doesn't have many people to talk to.

Imagining Doug building up the courage to introduce his s/o to Watson before things get too serious because if the other person doesn't respect his wishes with his little buddy then there's no need to continue the relationship any further. Doug being overjoyed when they react positively.

The Book of Marvelous Magic (1985) is a curious book. For starters, it is a square-bound book, so its a little unusual to see a module code on it at all (that becomes more of a thing as the decade goes on though). That makes it stand out as strange in the context of the AC-series publications as well. Leading up to this you have a screen, a book of NPCs and a set of tiles (with a short adventure included). Immediately following this you get two books of character sheets, another screen and another set of tiles (with a short adventure included).

It’s strange on its own merits too. It collects all the magic items from the first three BECMI box sets and adds a bunch more — its the first of a couple encylcopedia-style magic item products that TSR would release. It also feels real different from the usual D&D products. There’s lots of border art and negative space — I’d say the layout department over-designed it. If feels like too much.

The real draw is all the magic items and there are plenty to dig through. Lots of them are weird too (and punny, ugh, the puns). Portable masts and logs of snoring and the can of worms all appear among more traditional magic items. The most interesting bit is a short essay at the end that argues the primary difference between basic D&D and AD&D is that basic is easy to modify and advanced is somehow difficult to modify. There are lots of little ways in which TSR tried to convince people about the sanctity of the AD&D rules but this is definitely one of the dumbest of their arguments.

Nice Clyde Caldwell cover. Doug Watson is credited for the interiors — I’m not really familiar with his work. This is also one of only a handful of TSR publications that uses Dover clip art, which seems notable.
