i need some songwriting advice and i feel like some encouraging words could help 😞

whenever i write songs, they’re always about someone specific (which leads to an uncomfortable feeling when i look back on girls that i’ve had massive crushes on and written songs about where i no longer feel the same, though it shouldn’t be that awkward). i’m trying to write songs more about feelings than people, but i always end up writing a story in one song.

for example one of the songs i’m working on right now (kiss marry kill) has the cliche that i’ve used on several drafts where the last chorus goes from past to current tense showing that the situation has had no growth on me and that the cycle is repeating, which sounds good but i hate the reusing of past song motifs (at least, in my own work)! everything just feels so disney pop sometimes even when i have instrumental that is nowhere in the range of pop.

there’s only really one song that i’ve written that i like, but that one is accompanied by a full band (guitar, bass, and drums) so solo writing is hard for me.
