i'm gonna try not to bring up madoka too much while watching utena because i know there's like... a rep there. but like im 6 episodes into utena and i understand i don't have the full picture yet but how on earth do people think these shows are similar enough to warrant "madoka is misogynistic garbage, go watch utena, it's basically the same but better"

i think that if Lightyear (2022) didn't have the meat-bread-meat sandwich scene i would like the movie way more. the sandwitch gag was just so flabbergasting and honestly gross (so unhygienic!!!) that it yanked me out of the "being immersed in a story with my disbelief suspended" into "Who In Their Right Mind Wrote This Into The Movie Script. Am I, The Viewer, Supposed To Think This Is Funny?" soooo fast (and it was already losing me with all the new watery characters and the lackluster zurg plotline). there's a cool scifi story happening before & after that scene and Those events are always shown as something natural, i guess (within the setting they make total sense, i mean), and i always trust the main character to know what to do and Belong in the story. but the sandwiches were weird and alien even to him and even moreso weird and alien to me by extension... and that feeling of weirdness contributed to nothing re: mood of the moment/overarching plot/character development and it wasnt even FUNNY. if the creators wanted to include the sandwich so bad they needed to have zurg eat it to show what a deranged freak he is.

Idk how hot this take is but I think the exploration phases in SoV are an absolute delight and I hope they're in more Fire Emblem remakes because I want to see what's in characters' minds as they poke around and look at stuff

Ok, this is gonna need a lengthier response because:

If you mean exploring the villages and locations? I wholeheartedly agree! Poking around and checking everything for secrets is really fun, and the fact there's so much flavor text for both Alm and Celica checking spots and most of it either provides some neat worldbuilding or is really funny (along with being able to talk to characters of your army who monologue about their life) is definitely one of the best parts of Echoes and it badly needs to come back in future titles!

But when we come to the dungeons... eh. I think I mentioned it once, but while it is a neat idea, Echoes' execution leaves a lot to be desired and it actively becomes obnoxious on replays or lengthier dungeons. Especially if you start hunting for the ludicrously rare drops.

(Also I have the really bad memory of one of my Ironman attempts ending horribly at the ends of an unavoidable rare Terror)

I wouldn't mind it coming back because exploring locations especially now in HD on the Switch would be really cool, but it definitely needs to be improved.

TL;DR: The explorable villages and other locations are one of the best parts of Echoes, but the dungeons really need to be reworked in the future
