An episode where we are shown Eddie's childhood and it's shown that he had a boy crush and didn't understand it.

Then he met Shannon and everything was perfect: she was pretty, smart, and cute, and why wouldn't he fall in love with her? He should love her, so he does, and that's enough to him to believe that this "boy crush" was something he made up.

But then he's at war, and there's this teammate who's brave and strong, and Eddie feels light when they talk. He can almost forget where they are. And yeah, that might be admiration, right? Because there's no way that was any type of love. No, it couldn't. They are both men and they are in a military camp and it doesn't make sense because Eddie doesn't like men okay?

So when this guy is relocated and Eddie doesn't have any more information about him (is he alive? Is he hurt? Does he miss me?), he doesn't understand why it hurts.

So he's back home, and Shannon is screaming and he's screaming. His home feels like a minefield, and he hates it. Because they should be fine now, they should be the perfect couple with a loving child and everything should be perfect. But his mind is screaming at him, home doesn't feel like home, and he needs a love he can't get or feel. Why did he feel so safe at war with that teammate but could feel the same with his fucking wife?

When Shannon leaves, Eddie understands. He's just mad because she left Chris. But he knows she could tell he doesn't love her anymore, not the romantic love she wants.

Eventually, there's Evan "Buck" Buckley. They don't get along at first, but that lasts a shift, and the next one they are already bumping shoulders and making jokes. When the earthquake comes, Buck is the one who tries to reassure him his kid is fine and safe. And the one who notices how he's trembling after the shift so "Can I drive you to take your kid?" and he talks with Chris the whole drive.

He doesn't know when it hits him: Buck means safety to him. Where Buck is, Eddie is safe, and loved, and his mind shuts up.

Even when Shannon comes back and his mind is racing with anxiety, Buck is kind and listens to him, and it calms him.

There's that feeling again, the one he doesn't understand, but does he need to? Buck's there, he isn't going anywhere. And they love each other so much (and Eddie doesn't want to think much about it. About the kind of love, because this is enough, this safety is enough)

Buck loves his child, Buck is always there to listen and take care of him and Eddie aches. But it's nothing because Buck's there. They are happy and why should he ruin everything for a feeling he doesn't understand?

And even when they date other people, the feeling and they continue the same. "You're attached to the hip," says he's Abuela. And yeah, maybe? But that's okay because friendship comes first. Right?

If he gets annoyed by Buck's girlfriends or he gets stressed by his, that's not linked (why would it be? Buck's girlfriends are hurting him and he is just... he's not ready to date, he doesn't want to date)

And then Buck is dating Tommy... and they continue the same. They are friends, they come first, Tommy is kind to Buck, Buck adores him, and Eddie gets so fucking annoyed by Tommy. Tommy, the one he was going out and playing basketball with, and he doesn't understand again. He's tired of not understanding.

He's tired of not knowing why his heart aches when he sees Buck smile, talking with Chris, being kind to their patients, rumbling random facts, aching whenever Buck's next to him, actually.

He's tired of not understanding himself.

My favourite Buddietommy HCs bc they should ALL get to be loved.

They buy a super king sized bed when they move in together because Buck starfishes and likes to be in the middle, and Tommy and Eddie don't like being kicked

BUT more often than not they'll all end up snuggled together anyways because they're like magnets and always drawn together.

Tommy doesn't like cooking, mainly because he's worse at it than Eddie, so Buck decides to teach them both how to cook. Tommy suddenly becomes very enthusiastic

Tommy and Eddie initially struggled to think of date ideas together but then they both figured out that neither of them need anything grand, and something as simple as sparring together is enough 90% of the time

Buck and Eddie have this weird twin telepathy thing going on, due to years of best friendism, and often this is used to rile Tommy up, such as both men pinning him down on the couch and ravishing him without so much as a word of warning.

Speaking of sex, they really do like their kinky stuff (all 3 men love domming and subbing equally) BUT they also love it when they have soft, kissy missionary sex and can just stare into each others' eyes like the lovey bitches they are

Eddie spends the first month of their relationship in a daze because he's loved Buck for years, has loved Tommy for a good long while too and he can't quite believe that he's lucky enough to have both of them

Buck has a weird thing that if he kisses one of his boyfriends, he'll feel off kilter until he kisses the other

Tommy likes woodworking and makes both men a carving of the animal he associates them with - Buck gets a Golden Retriever and Eddie gets a sleek looking cat

Christopher is locked in a neverending cycle of "I don't know, ask your dad" and it drives him insane

Eddie sends Tommy photos of Buck when he falls asleep on shift. They both have a folder of Sleepy Buck on their phones

On the flip side, Buck sends Tommy photos of whenever Eddie doesn't manage his facial expressions when he hears something stupid. They're in a folder in Tommy's phone called Judgemundo

Sometimes all the boys want to do is shove the couches together, make a pillow fort, and watch shitty Romcoms while consuming their weight in popcorn. Tommy always falls asleep during these times and Buck and Eddie tease him mercilessly for it. They find it so cute though

When Buck ends up in the ER, Tommy and Eddie work each other up so badly that Bobby nearly separates them so they'll calm down. He doesn't when he sees how tight they cling to one another, though

my potentially controversial take on demi eddie diaz is that as much as i can vibe with it as a headcanon on a character analysis level, i don’t believe he’d ever personally use that label to describe himself. if you dove into his brain and scientifically determined that that was in fact the most apt label to describe him, his conscious mind would still simply never consider the possibility. eddie diaz knows three sexualities: straight, gay, and bi, and since he’s demi and fully in love with buck he would just assume and live like he’s one of the latter two once he stopped pretending to be straight, depending on how he chose to interpret his memories of shannon

this is the only thing i’m gonna say about it, but eddie isn’t jealous of buck or tommy. he’s very clearly happy for and proud of buck that he’s found somebody that’s good for him. the grin on his face in the hospital room after bucktommy came strolling in + the teasing at the bachelor party isn’t jealousy. eddie’s stoked buck’s got somebody and it’s a huge bonus that eddie and tommy are friends too. i’m convinced some of you have never had meaningful or supportive friendships in your life if you think eddie is bent out of shape over tommy. thank u.

im watching a documentary that's called "sharks and volcanoes" and i just feel buck would be all over that, watching it late at night and then talking about it for the whole shift the next day. and eddie would have the biggest mf heart eyes to ever exist. i just know it.

eddie loves coffee and drinks it all the time, his day doesn't start until he's had a mug of coffee. buck doesn't drink coffee or drinks it as rarely as possible because it causes anxiety and has a bad effect on his adhd, but he just loves different teas and has many different kinds of loose leaf teas at home.

like idk maybe he was best friends with someone in middle school, and they were super co dependent and hung out all the time but his mom got concerned about just how close they were, so they cut off their friendship.

or maybe he had a silly crush on one of the guys on his sports team, but never actually did anything about it. just staring longingly at him, from across the locker rooms.

or perhaps he was super close with one of his army buddies! his mom wasn't there to tell him it was wrong, so he didn't see the harm in it either. maybe they've gotten mistaken as a couple a few times, but eddie always said "i'm married" but never "i'm straight" and hadn't realized how significant that was.

Okokok I watched this scene a hundred of times and It got me thinking.

Buck's face when Eddie says this, looks like he's rethinking the "plan" to announce their relationship at the wedding. His face DROPS and it seems he hadn't thought about it like that, and now it hit him that it might cause a scene at his sister and Chim's wedding (what does make sense, Buck wouldn't want to take Maddie's spot when it's HER day!!)

What if he tells this to Tommy and Tommy feels like he's unsure about them and insecure, etc?? He said it's okay that Buck was discovering himself (sm like that) but he also made that closet joke in front of Eddie...

What if Tommy feels uncomfortable about this, or leaves???

Buck was not going to be the one to break. He refused to be the first one to break.

But goddamnit he couldn’t sleep.

He couldn’t even remember what the dumb fight was about or why he and Eddie broke the couple cardinal rule about going to bed angry. All he knew was that they fell onto the mattress with a huff and Buck had rolled onto his side and not looked back.

He wouldn’t be the first one to break. It was stupid and petty but it was all he got and he refused to budge.

It was just… he was cold. The blanket he’d thrown over his shoulder was defective because he was freezing cold and who said it could be so cold in California! The literal birth place of the sun or whatever! And his pettiness wasn’t anything like a warm chest with just a few patches of thin chest hair and a freckle beneath a pec he loved to tease with his teeth.

No. Buck wasn’t going to be the one to apologize. Eddie was the one who said Buck apologized too much anyway! And honestly, he may not remember what they were fighting about but he was pretty sure he wasn’t sorry.

Except… it had been like… twenty minutes?

Buck checked the clock.

Yeah, twenty minutes since they turned off the lights and Buck could not shut up his brain. All the words he wanted to say were pushing against his lips and making his toes tingle but his throat felt hollow and sore from the vinegar that came with them.

Regret induced heartburn.

Maybe he should say sorry. He’d probably been stupid again and he hated the silence that was hovering like a storm cloud ever since the lights turned off. Had he been wrong? He didn't think he was but one thing had rolled into another and another and Eddie just kept pushing him away when he was just trying to—

Maybe that was it. Maybe he'd overstepped. Maybe he'd gotten in Eddie's space when he needed space and been clingy and maybe he'd ruined everything again. Buck thought he was getting better but he still slipped up sometimes. He still panicked and held onto to people too tightly, afraid they'll leave. He still—

Eddie let out an explosive sigh that cut through the cloud like a bolt of lightning. Buck felt the bed shift behind him before an arm swung over him like swooping vengeance itself. Buck half expected Eddie to shove him off the bed for thinking so loudly.

But instead, he was grabbed around the middle while Eddie slung his leg over Buck's just above the knee before being bodily dragged to the center of the bed.

Buck let out a confused noise from the back of his throat but Eddie ignored him in favor of pushing himself up against Buck and ducking his face into his neck. The rumbling sound from Eddie was one of pure frustration and contentment before the softest kiss was pressed into his pulse point.

"I'm sorry for snapping," Eddie said. "I know you were just trying to help."

An arm shoved it's way under his head and Buck fumbled with his cocoon — stupid blankets— until he could get an arm free and found Eddie's hand in the dark. Their fingers tangled together as they sighed and Buck felt Eddie finally relax back against him.

Eddie had been tense all night. Buck had been trying to help but... he'd just made it worse.

"I'm sorry for not giving you space."

"Couldn't sleep without you," Eddie whispered, his words already slurring together as the exhaustion crept in.

Buck pulled their fingers to his lips and kissed them. "Me neither. Talk in the morning?"

Eddie grumbled his agreement before Buck felt him breath out a quiet, "Night baby."

Buck was out in a matter of seconds.

I like when you tell stories about her. And how you put her up all over the house, like she’s still here. It makes me feel like I knew her before she died.” A weight settles over Eddie’s chest right where Shannon used to lay her head. “You did, baby,” he insists, ducking his chin so he can see Christopher’s face when he turns his head.  Christopher shrugs. “Not really,” he says. “Not the way I know you or Buck.”  Eddie twists around onto his side. “I’ll tell you anything you want to know about your mom, baby.”
