List of Jane's best mentor/boss moments from The Trainee episode 3
aka the list of things that make him so irresistible to me that I am going feral on main on a Sunday afternoon
Jane admonished Ryan for being late and missing the production transportation, but he did not linger on it and immediately put him to work by giving him clear and concise tasks: keep the walkie talkie with you, keep the extras on standby and put your phone on silent
When he saw that Ryan's shoelaces were becoming a recurring problem, he just got down on his knees and solved it, giving us a little glimpse into his thoughts on seniority in the workplace and how ageist ego has no place in it
He was extra patient with Ryan when his phone continued to ring on set (@lurkingshan, @twig-tea, @shortpplfedup and I were screaming our heads off at Ryan and yet Jane continued to tolerate him)
Noticing Ryan's hesitation and offering to show him how to use the walkie talkie without him asking
Trusting the rest of the interns to run B-set
When the mean extra auntie tried to pull "I'm elder than him" nonsense, Jane shut that shit down, HARDDDDD. This is such an important lesson in Asian workplaces, because the social norms around age and the respect it demands can drown young people who enter the workforce. Jane spelling it out for Ryan that his age should not hinder him from doing the job was a powerful moment and one I have rarely seen in Asian dramas, to be honest. I think this is the moment the sex-o-meter caught on fire
He was open to ideas from his intern even during a high-stress situation and even implemented Ryan's idea of using one of the support service team members as an extra to finish up the shoot! If Ryan doesn't buy him a Best Boss Ever mug, I'm gonna be so mad at him
He covered for Pie and took the blame himself when the client expressed dissatisfaction (read: scolded everyone like children). He shielded her from the real-world-shitstorm-stress that would 100% be Too Much for an intern to deal with, while also teaching the interns the importance of teamwork and not throwing people under the bus
After wrapping up, Jane made sure Ryan did not leave the set feeling inadequate from his mistakes, and instead encouraged him to see himself as a cog in a bigger machine. Everyone's contribution is important, and no one in a team can work completely alone.
And finally, he told Ryan that he would not hesitate to apologize to him in the future if he makes a mistake. Because, say it with him now...
Tumblr media
Jane is extremely competent and is a compassionate mentor, which makes him so fucking sexy that my braincells are constantly at risk of spontaneous combustion

Fang… as the Elder Sister type (I could not be a spoiled princess little sister type 😔) how do u think Caleb would fare with that dynamic instead… younger brother Caleb……………
- @princess-okkotsu
@streimiv HAS AN ENTIRE POST ABOUT THIS THAT I MUST GO FIND AND AN ASK THEY SENT ME AND THEY ARE BOTH PERFECT
ON ANOTHER NOT I SHALL SAY… it’s not really that this part of caleb changes with an older sister. at least, the level of dedication and devotion that he shows in order to protect you as his older sister is the exact same. what changes the most imo is simply how he goes about different things and the level of subtlety in his approach
little brother caleb is eager to grow up and to make you see him as a man so he’s very proactive to grow up as quickly as he can. he’s also imo a lot more covertly manipulative in how he tries to bat away suitors and men who are interested in you. he joins the fleet young, gets his many licenses, and becomes capable and independent because he’s just that eager to have you stop treating him like a baby. you practically raised him from birth, so he knows how you see him.
but you’ve always been the woman he wants to marry. he doesn’t feel any guilt for that. who could be as capable, as cunning, as smart as his big sister?
i think he’s also a touch more temperamental and almost more violent though it doesn’t show often. once you enter the workforce he picks you up when you get drinks with co-workers, comes over to clean your house and do your laundry, and does all the same things to take care of you. he insists that none of this is bothersome to him, that he just happened to have time. even when he goes out of his way to dry clean your nice shirts or deal with some random chore. even when you know deep down he is doing everything in his power. he does it in a way that forces you to accept
“jiejie, just relax. i can handle it.”
it’s dangerous. its really really dangerous for you because i think you go through the feeling of recognizing him as a man way later than you would if he were your older brother. because caleb takes care of you without needing his hand held. and he knows you, because he’s your baby brother who absolutely adores you—who wants to repay his gratitude. so every single thing he does, he does without letting you think at all.
you don’t get a chance to worry, to feel discomfort. its done, resolved before you can even think it through
you wake one day to a clean apartment and a warm towel and fresh coffee—with caleb sitting in the kitchen making you breakfast and you’re just. embarrassed. you can’t deny it, what he’s making you feel—what he’s showing off to you.
he doesn’t take care of you like a brother. the weight of it is much more distinct. it makes you see him as a man in such a jarring, alarming way.
little brother caleb talks you down from the ledge all the time. rubs your shoulder blades. he’s more forceful because he knows you won’t cross the line. but he can be good to you, so good to you—so just let him. he’ll let you see it like appeasing your sweet baby brother just like you always do, if it makes you feel better
but you know it deep down, know it when he fucks you and knows exactly what spots to hit and how to make you feel good (so good that you wonder if he had a girlfriend to practice on, and try to ignore the discomfort the thought brings you) that you can’t hold that plausible deniability forever.
don’t worry. he knows it’ll be hard on you. his big sister burdened with everything. he knows it’ll make you break eventually but that’s why he’s there. he made himself sturdy enough just to catch you

I keep thinking about a post or a comment I saw months ago that basically said, "if this isn't a genocide then why haven't I seen any photos of Israel on fire"
So here are some photos of Israel on fire.
Starting with the obvious:
October 7th, 2023. Hamas attacked 21 towns. Be'eri, Kfar Aza, Re'im, and Nir Oz were essentially burned to the ground; it will take years to rebuild them.
Satellite images during the attack show fires burning all over.
Tumblr media
On October 7, Israel’s farming industry lost approximately 40% of its workforce and 30% of its physical area when the nation’s agricultural center became a warzone and the site of mass death and destruction.
The war forced thousands of people in Israel’s north and south to abandon their homes, leaving hundreds of acres of farmland to lie fallow while the IDF secured the area from further Hamas attacks.
Devastating losses About 20% of Israel’s agricultural land is located in the Gaza border area.... 75% of the vegetables consumed in Israel usually come from the Gaza border region, plus 20% of the fruit and 6.5% of the milk. Meanwhile, Israel’s northern region — which has been facing increasing rocket attacks from Hezbollah in Lebanon — accounts for a third of the country’s agricultural land, and according to the Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry, about 73% of its domestic egg production is concentrated in the Galilee and Golan regions.
Hezbollah's rocket attacks upon Israeli civilian areas, and Hamas rocket attacks from Lebanon, have caused massive fires across northern Israel.
The elimination of Israel has been a primary goal for Hezbollah, just as it is for Hamas and its affiliated groups.
Unlike Hamas, which targets Jews per se and cites the Protocols of the Elders of Zion to explain why, Hezbollah's reasoning follows that of the dictatorship of Iran:
"God, according to Hezbollah theology, cursed all Jews as blasphemers damned for all time and throughout history. Hezbollah, as well as the political/religious leaders of Iran, believe that the destruction of Israel will bring about the 'reappearance of the Imam (the Shiite Islamic Messiah).'"
Fire and brimstone it is, I guess.
April:
Nature and Parks Authority says that some 80,000 dunams (20,000 acres) in the Upper Galilee and Golan Heights have gone up in flames since the start of the month.
Tumblr media
The Katzrin fire in early June:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since the fighting erupted, the total scorched area in Israel is three times greater than the area consumed by the two greatest fires in Israeli history: the Sha'ar Hagai blaze west of Jerusalem in 1995, and the Mount Carmel forest fire in 2010. In each of those blazes, some 20,000 to 25,000 dunams of forest went up in smoke.
The total area burnt down now is also three times the combined area incinerated in 2016 when extreme weather conditions caused a wave of fires that consumed some 41,000 dunams. A similar size of woodland and forest also burned down during the Second Lebanon War. In 2019, a huge blaze consumed large swaths of central Israel's Mevo Modi'im community.
Tumblr media
According to a Haaretz analysis of satellite images, which matches with estimates by authorities, some 210,000 dunams (about 52,000 acres) of land burned down in Israel and Lebanon: about 150,000 dunams in Israel from Hezbollah attacks and Israel Defense Forces anti-aircraft fire, and around 60,000 dunams in Lebanon. The burned-down areas in Israel stretch over a large area in the Galilee and Golan Heights, while in Lebanon they are concentrated near the border – due to the Israeli military policy of setting deliberate fire to [complex fortified] areas there in order to keep Hezbollah combatants away and to damage the vegetation that provides them with cover.
...These included trenches, bunkers, rocket-launching positions and arms storage sites.
June 4:
'If the fire spreads to the mountain – everything changes': Residents try to survive amid Hezbollah rockets
Tumblr media
As rockets rain on their homes and wreak havoc, some Israelis believe the government's lackluster response shows it has forfeited the north to terrorists. "This is Hezbollah's new strategy – intentionally firing on open areas to ignite fires and burn the north," says former mayor.
Gay Eyal, the security officer of the Golan Regional Council, hasn't slept a wink since yesterday. More than 20 communities in the north, including two evacuated towns of Avivim and Dovev, fall under his wide purview.
"It seems this is the new method of the enemy: They see and hear what's happening – they understand burning the north is more effective," Eyal stated grimly. "We're coming off a night of fires. And this morning another blaze started in the Yir'on Forest. Our biggest fear is the fire spreading to Mount Meron. If that mountain ignites, all the communities of Meron, Safsufa, and the Galilee panhandle will be in danger." Eyal claims they prepared in advance, positioning 24 water trailer rigs of 1,000 liters each in every community. "It's a drop in the bucket. We geared up this past year with many water trailers to assist with firefighting, but it's not enough. We're working with fire stations in Safed, Kiryat Shmona, Tiberias, and Carmiel – our council is dealing with four fire stations. The firefighters are doing everything they can, working ceaselessly. They're tearing themselves apart, but the fire is spreading like a field of thorns."
Tumblr media
...Another resident from the north who was out all night at the various fire scenes also tells Israel Hayom this morning: "It's impossible to describe what we went through here last night. Everything burned, an entire region was ablaze. I drove between the fruit orchards, between communities as the fires raged, and my heart burned. The feeling is terrible, of destruction. There's no way to explain the feeling of people watching their life's work burning before their eyes."
Tumblr media
June 12:
Tumblr media
Hezbollah launched some 215 rockets and several more missiles and drones at northern Israel on Wednesday, in what it said was a response to the killing of a senior commander in the terror group by an Israeli airstrike a night earlier.
The successive Hezbollah attacks began on Wednesday morning with a barrage of at least 90 rockets fired at several [CIVILIAN] areas in northern Israel, including Tiberias — for the first time amid the war — Safed and Rosh Pina, sending tens of thousands of people to shelters, as Jewish Israelis celebrated the Shavuot holiday.
The Israel Defense Forces said another 70 rockets were then launched at the Mount Meron area, home to a sensitive air traffic control base. Ten more rockets were fired at the northern community of Zar’it, and an anti-tank guided missile struck a factory of the Plasan armored vehicle manufacturer in Kibbutz Sasa, causing damage. Later in the morning, a drone launched from Lebanon detonated in an open area near the northern community of Zivon, local authorities said. Several more rockets were fired in the afternoon hours at the upper and western Galilee areas.

visored longwing harpies & the hall of faces
I did say there was no exclusive global culture on Siren shared by humans of a certain body type, and I lied, because there is One.
The early settlers on Siren were the unaltered human workforce of a certain megacorporation. While an almost unlimited budget was poured into the dodgy gene programs, since that was why they chose to settle a planet so far out of the reach of The Authorities, everything else was done pretty cheaply, including the settling itself. In order to map out their new home planet, incredibly cheap mass-produced aircraft were used by pilots. These aircraft could be made quickly and easily at the settlement site because they lacked a flight computer or any real sensors - or any equipment at all in the cockpit. Rather than a multitude of different equipment loadouts on an aircraft that would take time and effort to swap out or maintain, the pilots instead used these visors which were universally compatible with the one-size-fits-all aircraft. It's kind of like how it's easier to just carry a phone around with a calculator app than it is to carry a phone and a calculator, even if the phone app calculator experience sucks by comparison.
The visors were the real expensive kit, each custom built to a pilot's exact needs and flight style, and they were built to last. the aircraft fell apart in the following centuries but the visors remained, hyperlight plastic powered by the planet's native star, and something interesting happened. The remains of the first settlement were largely inaccessible to anyone but longwing harpies, and these harpies had the right head shape to fit the visors. Many of the pilots had filled their visors with video and photo files from home, from Earth, like a worker decorating his cubicle with photos of his family. Some had been decorated on the outside, as well, resembling birds. The harpies that found the visors obviously tried to use them. They found themselves experiencing visions of strange worlds, recordings of long-dead pilots and ATC, and found that each visor can interface with every other one, no matter how far apart. Each visor came with its own callsign, its own name, which has remained for thousands of years - and because of this, each visor is considered by the cultures of Siren to be a named character with a distinct personality (eg. the swan visor was cygnus2, it is known now as Signastoo)
Tumblr media
I keep posting the map and it needs to be redrawn but essentially every red triangle is an ancient telecomm tower. These became the only remaining waypoints on the visors' HUD and mapping software, meaning that 1. a true global culture could emerge, with longwings gathering at these sites, and 2. visored longwings became the gold standard for navigation on Siren. In a world that is basically just water, that's a big deal.
There exist only a few thousand visors (about 3k I'd say). The unused visors are kept in the Hall of Faces, the ancient aviation bay at the first settlement in West. Because of how water levels and land structures have changed over the years, this building exists on a mesa that rises another few thousand feet out of the water, with sheer sides, and is utterly inaccessible to anyone but a longwing harpy. When a visored harpy dies, the visor is returned here. If you want to claim a visor, you need to hold an interview with one of the elders at the site, who will test you rigorously to see if you can inhabit the character of one of the visors. If not, too bad. If you do get it, it's yours until either you die or you do something considered 'out of character' for the wearer of that particular visor. It is DEEPLY discouraged to steal a visor off anyone because it would be largely impossible, given how they all can communicate (imagine a gigantic worldwide discord server where the location & name of every person is known at all times... the drama is likely insane but at least if someone steals a visor, everyone will know about it)
not every longwing desires a visor because it comes with a lot of responsibility alongside its automatic prestige, and you can't really give it up once you have it. also there's always the possibility of being diagnosed with a super annoying, glitchy, or hated visor character lol. but among the roughly 2700 visored harpies on Siren there does exist a global culture exclusive to them. they chat to one another long-distance, engage in closed-practice ceremonies where they all get high and look at videos of Earth, and essentially become a class outside the mundanity of normal life on Siren. to the rest of the population, they basically become telepathic wizards
Terwyef's visor (first pic) is called Scrappercharlee and is one of the more common models, tho it has been decorated over the years with extra bits. Scrappercharlee is a bit busted and half the HUD is missing. Miakef's visor (second pic) Signastoo is one of the very fancy and well-known ones, it's shaped like a swan's head and likely belonged to a high-ranking pilot who could afford a bit of frippery and showmanship back in the day. Birds do not exist on Siren and harpies are mammals so the swan itself is symbolically meaningless, but the bird-style visors introduce the idea of 'a bird' in the abstract, and this has been imbued with its own form of meaning by harpies.

Harassment in Japanese
A list of the types of harassment in Japanese.
Note: There are obviously some triggering things in here, so please skip if you think that descriptions of forms of harassment might cause you distress.
Tumblr media
アカハラ/Aka-Hara Academic Harassment (アカデミックハラスメント) Situations where professors or superiors in an academic setting take advantage of their position to harass or prevent the academic development of a student. This includes preventing them from using equipment without just cause, or not giving students credit for their work.
アルハラ/Aru-Hara Alcohol Harassment (アルコールハラスメント) Any kind of forced alcohol consumption can be considered alcohol harassment. Hazing, bullying, using hierarchy to force someone to drink, or not arranging for non-alcoholic drinks all constitute alcohol harassment.
エアハラ/Ea-Hara Air Harassment (エアーハラスメント) Otherwise known as air-conditioning harassment. Companies prohibiting the use of air conditioning on hot days to save on energy costs or setting the temperature so low that employees feel uncomfortable because it's too cold.
エイハラ/Ei-Hara Age Harassment (エイジハラスメント) Age harassment has many forms. Originally it meant the harassment of middle-aged or older members of the workforce specifically because of their age; however, it has been expanded to include age-discrimination in job requirements (e.g. restricting the age of applicants for no just cause) and the harassment, harm or neglect of elders in the home or in nursing homes.
オワハラ/Owa-Hara Stop (One's) Job Search Harassment ((就)終われハラスメント) Taking advantage of the insecurity of job seekers by verbally promising them a job under the condition that they stop seeking other opportunities.
カジハラ/Kaji-Hara Housework Harassment (家事ハラスメント) Unbalance, disrespect, or excessive badgering with respect to the division of household chores and other domestic duties in the home.
カスハラ/Kasu-Hara Customer Harassment (カスタマーハラスメント) Inappropriate or disrespectful behavior by customers towards service staff. For example, making unreasonable requests, refusing to pay for services or any other kind of verbal or physical abuse.
カラハラ/Kara-Hara Karaoke Harassment (カラオケハラスメント) When someone uses their position of authority at work to force people to sing at karaoke when they don’t want to.  While karaoke is considered a social activity and for some it is a way to relieve stress, there are many who do not enjoy karaoke and find it embarrassing to sing in front of others.
キャンハラ/ Kyan-Hara Campus Harassment キャンパスハラスメント) Any kind of harassment that occurs on a university campus falls under the umbrella of campus harassment, including but not limited to: sexual harassment, academic harassment, and power harassment. The difference between campus harassment and academic harassment is that the former can occur between peers and colleagues and is not limited to teacher-student interactions.
ケアハラ/Kea-Hara Care Harassment (ケアハラスメント) Harassment in the workplace towards those who take leave or work fewer hours in order to care for family members.
シルハラ/Shiru-Hara Silver Harassment (シルバーハラスメント) Silver harassment is similar to age harassment and refers to older people, but more specifically refers to harassment of those receiving elder care. The “Silver Generation” refers to those who are above the age of 60, and harassment of this population tends to happen in the form of bullying, neglect, or outright abuse by those taking care of them (e.g. family or nursing home staff). This is a growing problem in Japan due to the aging population.
ジェンハラ/Gen-Hara Gender Harassment (ジェンダーハラスメント) When traditional gender roles are imposed upon people in the workplace. E.g. forcing only women to serve tea, expecting men to be dominant or leaders in a project or a team or to be responsible for physical labor. Gender harassment also includes discrimination or harassment of LGBTQ individuals.
スクハラ/ Suku-Hara School Sexual Harassment スクールセクシャルハラスメント) Sexual harassment of students by teachers at school. This includes such things as asking a student if he/she is dating, using one's position to prohibit dating, or inappropriate physical contact with a student that can be considered sexual abuse. Often times school administration may not be equipped or receptive to such claims made by students, therefore it is advised to contact a third-party organization for victim support.
スメハラ/Sume-Hara Smell Harassment (スメルハラスメント) Smell Harassment is the act of making others uncomfortable with smells. Body odor or bad breath may be common but also the overuse of perfume or fabric softener can be considered smell harassment.
スモハラ/ Sumo-Hara Smoke Harassment (スモークハラスメント) Harassment of nonsmokers by smokers. When a smoker forces a nonsmoker to smoke or be exposed to second-hand smoke. In addition, some have extended smoke harassment to include the undue burden placed on non-smokers in the workplace because smokers take significantly more breaks implying that non-smokers work longer or end up doing more work than smokers.
セクハラ/Seku-Hara  Sexual Harassment (セクシャルハラスメント) When unwanted or inappropriate sexual comments or physical contact is made in the workplace.
セカハラ/Seka-Hara Second Harassment (セカンドハラスメント) When a victim of sexual harassment reports the abuse to their company or superior and is secondarily harassed to stay silent or otherwise ignored or threatened.
ゼクハラ/Zeku-Hara Zexual Harassment (ゼクシャルハラスメント) Passive aggressive or direct pressure from a woman to a man to get married. The term zexual comes from the bridal magazine Zexy. Social pressure on women to get married is consequently transferred to their current partners and is known as zeku-hara.
ソーハラ/So-Hara Social Media Harassment (ソーシャルメディアハラスメント) Any kind of discomfort or pressure caused by colleagues or superiors with regard to social media. Insisting on follows or engaging on social media or using people’s social media posts against them in the workplace.
継ぐハラ/Tsugu-Hara Inheritance (of a family business) Harassment (継ぐんでしょうハラスメント) Pressure from parents or relatives to take over a family business despite the preferences of the individual.
テクスハラ/ Tekusu-Hara Textual Harassment(テクスチュアルハラスメント) Textual harassment is the unfair degrading or ignoring of a work or evaluation of a person who is a woman or because of her gender. In particular, it refers to the evaluation of a work by a female writer being lower rated than that of a male writer, or the evaluation of a work being based on the gender of the writer, rather than on the quality of the work.
テクハラ/ Teku-Hara Technology Harassment (テクノロジーハラスメント) Technology harassment is the harassment of people who are not tech-savvy. Especially older members of the workforce may not be as well versed in using technology. While the job might require a certain amount of competency in technology, not allowing people the time to learn or belittling them for their lack of skills is considered technology harassment.
ドクハラ/ Doku-Hara Doctor Harassment(ドクターハラスメント) Discomfort or mental stress caused to a patient by the words, actions, attitude, or atmosphere of a doctor treating a patient. This can include anything from dismissive comments like "If you don't trust me, go somewhere else," or forced treatment or examination despite hesitation by the patient.
ヌーハラ/Nu-Hara Noodle Harassment (ヌードルハラスメント) It is common to audibly slurp one’s noodles while eating in Japan. Some find the sound unsettling and in certain situations eating one's noodles noisily can be considered noodle harassment.
ハラハラ/ Hara-Hara Harassment Harassment (ハラスメントハラスメント) Harassment harassment is the act of embarrassing or harassing someone by claiming that words, actions, or behavior that are not actually harassment are "harassment." This can worsen human relationships within an organization and reduce work efficiency.
パーハラ/ Pā-Hara Personal Harassment (パーソナルハラスメント) Any kind of bullying or attacks that are personal in nature (e.g. in reference to personal taste, appearance, habits, personality, etc.).
パワハラ/ Pawa-Hara Power Harassment (パワーハラスメント) When someone in a position of power in the workplace uses that power to harass or bully a person in a lower-ranked position.
フォトハラ/Foto-Hara Photo Harassment (フォトハラスメント) Taking photos without a person's permission, uploading the photo to social media without permission, or any other use of photographs to intentionally cause discomfort, harm, humiliation, distress, or danger.
ブラハラ/ Bura-Hara Blood Type Harassment (ブラッドタイプハラスメント) In Japan, many believe that one’s blood type has an influence on a person’s personality, also known as blood type horoscopes. Blood type harassment refers to words, actions, or judgments of a person’s personality or capability based on their blood type. For example, Type O is careless, Type A is meticulous, etc. Not only is there no evidence for the validity of blood type horoscopes but deciding people’s work responsibilities and tasks based on blood type is harassment.
ペットハラ/ Petto-Hara Pet Harassment (ペットハラスメント) Pet harassment has two variations.
Abuse or neglect of one’s pet
Improper maintenance of one’s pet in public that causes fear or discomfort to people who are afraid of animals.
マタハラ/Mata-Hara Maternity Harassment (マタニティハラスメント) Harassment of a woman who is pregnant or has given birth, either mentally or physically, on the grounds that her pregnancy, childbirth, or parental leave is interfering with her work duties.
マリハラ/Mari-Hara Marriage Harassment (マリッジハラスメント) Marriage harassment refers to the constant pestering of unmarried to get married, by colleagues, superiors, work, relatives, and peers.
モラハラ/ Mora-Hara Moral Harassment (モラルハラスメント) Moral harassment is harassment that causes mental pain to the other person through words, attitudes, and actions. Specifically, it includes ignoring the other person, using abusive language, acting in a bad mood, or forcing or taking away work. When a person is mentally harassed through words and attitudes, in the workplace this often manifests as not receiving recognition for work. This kind of harassment is often concealed and happens in private.
ラブハラ/ Rabu-Hara Love Harassment ラブハラスメント Emotional distress or discomfort caused to a person in relation to the topic of love or relationships. Asking about one’s dating situation or unsolicited advice about dating, relationships, or marriage.
リスハラ/ Risu-Hara Restructuring Harassment (リストラハラスメント)  A form of power harassment that forces employees into departments, positions, or locations they are not necessarily suited for. When decisions regarding one’s working conditions are deliberately made to make the employee experience discomfort or hardship.
リモハラ・テレハラ/ Remo-Hara or Tele-Hara Remote Harassment/Telework Harassment (リモートハラスメント・テレワークハラスメント) A new type of harassment has emerged with the spread of remote work during the pandemic. As many people’s personal spaces became visible to colleagues and superiors, it resulted in an undue invasion of personal privacy. In addition, people were forced to join online drinking sessions or were excluded from necessary meetings. All of the above fall under the umbrella of remote harassment.
レイハラ/ Rei-Hara Racial Harassment (レイシャルハラスメント) Racial harassment is the act of insulting or harassing someone on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, etc. It refers to a situation in the workplace or in everyday life where an employee is subjected to discriminatory remarks or actions or unfair treatment on the basis of race or nationality, resulting in a harmful working environment.
レリハラ/ Reri-Hara Religious Harassment (レリジャスハラスメント) Harassment by religious officials involving emotional, physical, or financial distress. It may include pressure to join a religious group, threats of severe consequences if one tries to leave a religious group, or sexual or child abuse that occurs within a religious group. Interestingly, this term is not used for people who get discriminated against because of their religion.
ロジハラ/ Roji-Hara Logical Harassment (ロジカルハラスメント) Logical harassment is harassment that uses logic and reason to mentally corner the other person. It refers to acts that cause mental pain to the other person by presenting logical arguments, confusing them, or taking away their confidence.
ワクハラ/ Waku-Hara Vaccine Harassment (ワクチンハラスメント) Forcing someone to get vaccinated or making remarks or behaving in a way that blames them for not being vaccinated. It is an abbreviation for vaccine harassment, and the term "wakuhara" has become more common in the workplace amid the influence of COVID-19.
Note: There are other types of harassment, each with their own catchy four-syllable (or so) phrase. While Japan recognizes a lot of harassment types, the policies for combating harassment aren't always strong enough to support the victims. I provide this list in case you need help describing harassment you are facing, and to shine a light on some of the issues facing Japanese society.

Wilderness: The Secret of Grist Ridge
Taking its name from the its centuries old owner, the rolling highlands known as the Domain of Daldivain still bears the scars from when it was vast salve farm that fed the armies and granaries of the old empire. Since the empire's fall the people of the domain have maintained small settlements and scattered villages, herding over the the valleys and rises their debt-bound ancestors once toiled to cultivate.
All is not as peaceful as the picturesque vistas of the domain would suggest; cloud drakes, once a rarity and folkish sign of good fortune have become invasive in the region, beginning to prey on livestock and even lone travellers as their numbers swell.
After having several of their homesteads savaged by the beasts, one of the villages has sent for the party: The majority of its residents including the majority of its elders want the party to hunt the beasts back to their lair, but their wisewoman claims to have had a vision that points them to Grist Ridge, the old ruins that lay at the heart of the old autarch's domain. Most have no idea what the mushroom addled crone is talking about, but there is some rumour of treasure in the old mill that may make it worth checking out.
Adventure Hooks:
Early in their journey our heroes encounter a band of warriors led by Haltri Drakesbane, a woman who sees herself as the protector and future leader of the domain's people. Already having proven herself by slaying the beasts that preyed upon her kinsmen's land and several other villages, she's more than happy to ally with the party and split the glory if it means driving the drakes out for good. Her offer is not without caveat: Haltri hopes to leverage strength of arms into a unifying authority over the scattered peoples of the domain, and her detractors (including the village elders who sought the party out) fear what her ambitions may lead to if she goes unchallenged.
Feeling an inexplicable desire to wander, the journymage Enilo (along with his fluffy familiar, Cloudchaser) has sought out the ruins at Grist Ridge, spending days exploring and journaling about his experience. Enilo doesn't know it yet, but he's been called by the goddess of sky and enlightenment to receive a revelation that may change the future of the domain, provided the party's willing to have him tag along during their exploration and later defend him when Haltri shows up sometime midway through the delve to take the ruins for herself.
Though a number of the usual dungeon denizens have made their home in Grist Ridge, there is something malevolent skulking around its deepest reaches, filling the tunnels between the old windmills with the echo of scraping chains and a distant grinding sound that unsettles to the bone. It leaves handfulls of corroded coins from the old autarchy in places where others may find them. The locals know not to touch these, as it seems accepting the gifts of the lurking horror means inviting it to follow you home.
Background: One of many such sites left over after the fall of the old Autarchy, the ruins today known as Grist Ridge once surveyed a vast domain of slave farms owned by one of the old empire's richest men, Lord Daldivian, who's mark on the region endures even centuries after his death.
The old lord bought up the debts of hundreds and dragged them off to work in his fields, grinding them down much in the same way his mills ground down the grain they cultivated. Because he didn't need to pay his workers he was able to sell grain for less, bankrupting score upon score of the region's old farming families and creating people desperate enough to sell either their ancestral land (expanding Daldivain's domain) or themselves into bond slavery for fear of starvation, swelling his workforce from hundreds to thousands.
Daldivane was of course using lives as grist for his ambition long before the first mill was built: The region that came to be his was originally open wilderness along the Autarchy's border inhabited by worshipers of the goddess Yithini, who the old empire considered heathen and thus worthy of extermination. Lord Daldivane used his in with the imperial military to raze their homes and shrines, sowing his first fields with meal ground from their bones. He also used this military connection to hunt the endemic species of drake near to extinction, both because the beasts were sacred to Yithini and because they threatened to impede his expansion.
Further Adventures:
Enilo's observations of the region and the ruins (built on the space of Yithini's demolished temple) will eventually lead him to a series of revelations: The drakes aren't invasive, they are merely returning to their natural population levels after being culled. The environment is healing because of the return of its natural predator. There were people who lived in the domain before who's existence and subsequent elimination Daldivane concealed, who lived in harmony with the drakes through their worship of the now forgotten sky goddess. Unexpectedly finding himself a prophet, Enilo will return to the people of the domain and begin expounding on this secret history, reawakening the worship of Yithini in what was once her sacred land and sparing the people from further clashes with their draconic neighbours.
Haltri does indeed have ambition, taking the exactly wrong lessons from the stories of Daldivane she imagines herself as a new, kinder, autarch, seeking to reclaim the mills of Grist Ridge and rebuild the economic engine that made the old lord one of the richest men in the known world. This will of course require the denizens to be put to work in the fields once again, but in her opinion its the least they can do to repay her for driving the drakes away and keeping them safe. Its up to the party to uncover these ambitions, or perhaps look aside for the sake of their new, increasingly powerful ally.
The thing stalking the foundations of Grist Ridge is a demon born of Daldivane's pittiless greed and the sorrow of those he enslaved. Stalking around the lowest reaches of the ruins and emerging only at night, it resembles a man dressed in tattered finery of the old autarchy with his legs fettered together and his arms bound to a yoke. Where its face should be there is only a cracked millstone, grinding forever and ever over its bleeding and lipless lower jaw. Most disturbingly of all It hungers for bones: placing severed limbs or whatever stray mice it can catch in its mouth and grinding them to powder, sometime after its meal coughing up bloody autarchy coins the way an owl might a pellet. Though it does not speak or perhaps even really THINK the demon of Grist Ridge believes in fair commerce, as any who feed it are due a compensatory amount of treasure just as anyone who takes from its offerings owes it in some way.

This is a long tale, but I appreciate you taking the time to meet my friend Chris and help her out if you can.
TL;DR: my friend, an elderly queer woman I met when she was homeless just lost everything she owns in a fire at her first permanent home she had after becoming unhoused. Luckily, she and her cat were not home at the time. Please help if you can by donating or boosting.
This is a queer elder who needs our help. I'm hoping tumblr can come through for her
https://www.gofundme.com/f/fire-took-chris-baileys-home-they-need-help
Here's the long tale:
A friend of mine just lost everything except herself, her cat and the clothes on her back to a fire at her apartment (her first after being homeless for years) on Friday. We learned yesterday that nothing from her apartment is recoverable. Please help!
(Long post with cute cat pictures behind the readmore)
I met Chris one Sunday afternoon after driving past her three times as she sat on a bench outside our local library after closing. I stopped to ask if she needed a ride, and found out that she was homeless, staying in motels when her SSI came in and on the street when it ran out.
As the years have passed, I've learned a lot about her. Despite her parents kicking her out at 17 when she was outed to them as gay, she went back to school and became a social worker, working in several Chicago hospitals through the 80s and 90s, and, like a lot of queer women in the caring fields at that time, tended to and provided comfort and care for (among others) so many gay men, young and old, living with and dying from AIDS, from the earliest days of the disease through the availability of the triple cocktail and to the brighter days of hope.
Through it all, she had relationships with women in a time where that was something that wasn't always safe to do. Some were good, some bad, and some resulting in her losing nearly everything, but she struggled through. She quit social work in 99 or 2000 when her mom got sick and passed away, and then stayed out of the workforce to care for her dad until he passed in 2006. Those experiences impacted her deeply, and she became permanently disabled during that period, leaving her living on SSI, and struggling with her own mental health. She eventually lost her condo, and bounced in and out of apartments and motels.
When I met her in Sept 2019, I helped her get back into the motel she'd been staying at and bridging her to her next check and then making sure that she could stay there, and reliably get her maintenance meds and start rebuilding her life and credit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is her and everything she owned as we left her hotel room for the final time on Valentine's Day 2022.
The cat there is Bailey, her constant companion since they adopted each other in September 2021. They've both been through a lot and are absolutely the picture of "Who rescued whom?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We started having biweekly dinners and I worked with her creditors and tried to get her credit score back into a good place, and helped her get banked and fixed up with access to the Internet and just help her feel more solid and stable in her life.
Just over 2 years later, in February 2022, we were finally able to get her into a senior independent living apartment, her first permanent home since about 2017. She had no furniture, but with some secondhand pickups and occasional pickups, we got her something resembling a home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It wasn't perfect, and she had her grumbles, certainly, but it was her home. It was a place that she could launch from to recover and consider moving some place even better, if she chose.
However, Friday, July 14, Bailey had an afternoon vet appointment. Everything was fine when we left, but when we got home, with Bailey in a carrier in the backseat, we were shocked to see what looked like a million emergency vehicles & a whole lot of seniors sitting on the grass.
Chris and Bailey came with me to take my daughter into the city that evening, giving the situation 2 hours to develop and for us to get more information. We heard a few newsradio updates and saw this story on abc7, getting the sinking feeling that that balcony looked too familiar.
Tumblr media
When we got back from the city, we were able to drive around the back of the building and confirm that this was her apartment.
Tumblr media
We were able to get back to the building on Tuesday and get into the apartment to get her medications, but everything is water damaged from the sprinkler system (with all of its stagnant water) and the firehoses. All her furniture. All her clothes. Her bed. Her degrees. Gone.
Everything she owned is gone. She literally owns less now than when she was homeless. She's despairing and trying her best to keep it together, but she's lost so many homes in her life, going back to when she was 17 and her parents found out she is gay and kicked her out.
This all feels like too much. Please help. Please donate what you can, and share where you're able.

THOUGHT I have that you may also have thoughts on: Why did the death eaters never target the British Royal Family? I feel like this would've been prime magi-terrorism against muggle England. Also makes me wonder whether there was ever a time when the Royal Family was in on the existence of wizards, and then excluded, or whether there are any protection protocols for them against magic.
Hey! I can think of two answers for this, one interesting and one boring. The boring thing is that most "why didn't the Death Eaters do [X]" questions can be answered with "because they were in power for about 9 months," dated from the fall of the Ministry (aug 97) to the death of Voldemort (may 98). Voldemort, we know from Deathly Hallows, spends the year preoccupied with acquiring the Elder Wand, which is why he tasks his A-team (Bellatrix + Greyback) with guarding Griphook and Ollivander at Malfoy Manor. As for the rest of his forces, they appear to spend most of that overhauling the Ministry and Hogwarts to disenfranchise and target muggle-borns. Muggles seem to be low on the priority list compared to muggle-borns, which makes sense from a strategic standpoint, since muggle-borns are much much more of a threat to the regime than non-magic users. Plus: running a government is hard as shit, and it's especially hard if you've fired whatever portion of your workforce that doesn't meet your crazy exclusive eugenics criteria. That's assuming you're good at it! These bitches run around in skull masks. They are mostly coded as fussy aristocracy and, at best, highly trained warrior-knights. You think the Lestranges ever had a desk job? Lucius solves the problem of "aw shit, the cops are gonna find my crazy powerful dark artifacts from lord voldemort" by giving one of them to a twelve-year-old. I'm not looking at him and seeing a master of bureaucracy and institutional design. (Or maybe he is, and not to harp, but the weakness of Deathly Hallows not showing us the actual war is we don't actually know what's going on with 99% of characters, Death Eaters included, for about a year.)
The more interesting answer is that we don't know how much the muggles know about the Second Wizarding War, but you generally want to keep political figureheads alive in a conflict with an enemy state, because you need someone to negotiate with. Assuming in the first place that you can ice someone that important — which usually you can't, or the war would be over, but let's suppose that a wizards-vs.-muggles fight would be decisively in favor of the wizards, for the sake of the argument (though I'm not necessarily convinced). Voldemort's power base is rooted in tradition and custom. Killing a prime minister or some government toady is well within his M.O., but killing the ancestral head of state and scions of an ancient dynasty? Even a weak, non-magical dynasty? That removes a very useful tool of social manipulation. I think it would be far more likely that the Royal Family would get Imperio'd and kept around to be trotted out as damage control whenever the muggle peasants got rowdy.

Adulting: What did everyone do after the curse broke?
Tumblr media
So, I have a LOT of headcanons as to what the different characters did after the curse broke. We do get several answers in Another, but for the answers we don't get, here's what I think happened!
Tohru: I don't think the specific nature of her job would be terribly important to her, so much as just entering into the workforce. From her outfit in the Prelude epilogue, it seems like she's not doing manual labor (like cleaning, which was what I initially thought she'd be doing, since she had experience). I wonder if she's an employee at a school; her colleague kind of looks like an elementary or middle school teacher to me. I don't think Tohru would be able to teach without further education, and she was very clear that she did not want to pursue further study. I'm not sure if Japan has classified staff/paraprofessionals or an equivalent, but I think she'd be amazing at that job. I also think she probably became a stay-at-home parent as soon as she and Kyo had the means for her to do so.
Kyo: we know he became a karate instructor, and I just bet he's a fabulous teacher. I think him eventually taking over the Sohma dojo would be a full circle moment for both him and the Sohma family.
Saki: I can honestly see a lot of different jobs for her. Some favorites that I've seen in fanfic are art gallery employee, ghost hunter, and food critic. I have her becoming a hairstylist in Bloom Within Us, after attending beauty school through correspondence. Her clients ADORE her and she uses her wave-reading to make sure they're satisfied and tell them anything they really need to hear. It's common for appointments to end with her clients crying and hugging her because she's just healed some childhood wound of theirs. I could also see her becoming a ritual mortician, preparing the departed for their funeral (which would include hair, makeup, etc...) I think she'd be really good at working with grieving families and getting the deceased to look just right.
Arisa: she worked to put herself through junior college after she moved in with Kureno (though they had the money, she insisted on doing it for herself), and became a nurse in elder care. She makes friends with the crankiest old folks and cries like a baby when one of them dies.
Yuki: I shared in my Yuki headcanons post that I see Yuki going into politics and eventually working in international relations. I see him wanting to see the world far outside of the Sohma estate.
Machi: I always pictured her becoming an accountant.
Kakeru: we know he goes to college, and that he wants to help Komaki's family with their business, so I always assumed he'd major in something that would help with that. Maybe business management?
Momiji: we know he went on to take over his father's corporation. In my Momiji headcanons post, I shared that I see him going to university in Germany, and getting his MBA (or the equivalent). I think he'd need to know this before beginning his third year, so I suspect his father sat him down at some point during his second year to bring up the possibility of taking over his business, and told Momiji of his intent to "adopt" him so he could officially be part of their family again without raising his mother's suspicions (in Japan, it's common for CEOs to adopt their successors). I think this is what would've led Momiji to pursue business instead of music. I do think music is probably still a huge part of his life; I suspect he still plays violin casually, and he probably has a season subscription to orchestras in both Tokyo and Berlin (or wherever the German branch of his father's company is).
Kagura: she studied childcare, and I actually think that's a spectacular fit for her. When she's not being a total yandere over Kyo, she's a very nurturing and big-sisterly character.
Rin: so, I think Rin would continue to have major health problems for the rest of her life, and would probably struggle to find work that accommodates her needs and doesn't trigger any of her stress-related symptoms. I think she'd have short stints in a few jobs, like maybe retail, or modeling, or something artistic or design-y, but eventually I could see her just taking commissions for her own artwork when she feels like it. She seems like someone who wants very badly to contribute, and I think it would take a lot for her to accept that her body won't let her work full-time or on someone else's schedule, but Haru (and all her friends) would gently encourage her to take better care of herself, and at some point I think she'd accept that working for someone else just isn't sustainable for her long-term. (Though, pregnancy would also be extremely risky for her, and I'm surprised they had kids, let alone TWINS.)
Haru: I love that he does metalwork and makes most of his own accessories, so I always imagine him continuing that. I could also see him picking up odd jobs (like dog-walking? why does that seem like something he'd do?) from time to time. I think an independent, artisan-type job would suit him best.
Kisa and Hiro: most of the fandom seems to have Kisa becoming a teacher and Hiro becoming a lawyer, and those are absolutely perfect jobs for them.
Ritsu and Mitsuru: I like to imagine that Ritsu goes to work for Ayame, specializing in styling traditional clothing. This is how Ritsu comes back around to wearing whatever tf he wants, which ends up being a mix of "women's" kimonos and more flamboyant menswear (like his idol, Ayame). He and Mitsuru do eventually get married, and Mitsuru's the one who ends up running the onsen, because that girl deserves to relax!!!
Ayame, Mine, Shigure, Akito, Hatori, and Mayu: we mostly know what these characters do as of Another, and I don't have a ton to add except for Mayu (see below).
Megumi: Since we know Megumi becomes a teacher at Kaibara, I also headcanon that Mayu's still a much-loved teacher at Kaibara in Another, and that she and Megumi are work besties who like to mess with Makoto Takei when he's being especially obnoxious. I also headcanon that Mayu eventually introduces him to his future wife, since we know he likes older women.
Kureno: I imagine he'd become someone else's assistant; even better if he can work from home.
Yusuke and Hiroshi: In Bloom Within Us, Yusuke helps his dad run a grocery they own, and Hiroshi becomes a doctor (GP). I think, if I were only going off canon and not the elaborate backstories I created for them, I could imagine Hiroshi being someone who emcees events (almost a la Ryan Seacrest? but on a much smaller scale) and Yusuke I could see working at a University as like, a freshman advisor or residence life director. Basically someone who makes sure everyone's adjusting well to the campus and who people can go to with questions. I could actually see both of them doing this.
Kimi and Nao: side note, I kind of ship these two? But anyway, I can see Nao becoming a very stressed out CEO or (more likely) director of a non-profit, and I can totally see Kimi as someone whose job it is to secure donations for that non-profit, which she absolutely does by flirting with prospective donors. They'd be almost frighteningly effective when working together...
What do you think? Did I miss anyone?
Also, I almost used the scene where Tohru imagines their future together while at Kyoko's grave for the header image, but it made me cry, so...

Mass layoffs and a sweeping restructuring at the Department of Health and Human Services could disrupt programs that deliver support for Holocaust survivors and kosher meals to homebound seniors and people with disabilities.
As part of the Trump administration’s move to slash federal spending, the department is reducing its workforce by 25% and eliminating the Administration for Community Living, which coordinates federal support for services such as Meals on Wheels, adult day care, elder abuse prevention and independent living supports.
Jewish social services agencies throughout the country deliver kosher offerings to peoples’ homes as part of the Meal on Wheels program. Holocaust survivors also receive other assistance from the ACL through a special program administered by the Jewish Federations of North America.
An estimated 40,000 Holocaust survivors live in the United States today, and more than one third of them are living in poverty.
JFNA, which has been fielding calls and emails about the federal cuts from concerned Jewish organizations, says it is advocating with the government to protect services.
“ACL serves a critical role in supporting the independence of people with disabilities and older adults, including Holocaust survivors, and Jewish Federations are focused on ensuring that the vital programs it oversees will continue uninterrupted through any potential administrative changes,” David Goldfarb, senior director at JFNA’s strategic health center, said in a statement.
Established in 2015, the Holocaust Survivor Assistance Program aims to make welfare service providers more effective by training them in a healthcare approach known as person-centered, trauma-informed care. The program has received strong bipartisan support in Congress, which most recently allocated $8.3 million for it, while cutting many other earmarks, in the budget resolution approved last month.
In announcing the move, the department said that the reorganization would not affect “critical services.” It said essential programs housed under ACL will become the responsibility of other agencies in the department including the Administration for Children and Families, Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
The cuts at the Department of Health and Human Services come as a spending freeze at another federal agency puts security grants for synagogues and Jewish nonprofits in limbo. Jewish groups and a group of lawmakers from both parties are calling on the Trump administration to resume the  Nonprofit Security Grant Program that stalled as part of the freeze ordered at FEMA, the federal disaster relief agency.

A quick orc and dragonborn sketch.
The largest sophonts in Lanjari are sharing a cup of honeyed wine, a classic alliance gift. In this setting, they are evolutionary cousins (once removed). They have retained, for whatever reason, quite a strong uncanny valley effect towards each other. It has led to many cultural associations. Both true and untrue.
But that is nothing that cannot be overcome. Especially in Vobanar cities, dragonborn and orcs share a cultural history of being exploited as strong 'foreign' laborers and cheap workforces. Some choose to band together. Strength in numbers for the dracomorphs. (oh, and kottolds too, if they didn't have a gigantic empire they 'belong' to right next door. Why don't you put your smug face back with your dragon mom?)
Also featuring some of the other sophonts, all sitting, for size comparison. This is both a matriarch orc and a female dragonborn elder, the biggest of either species.

John Elder, marine engineer and shipbuilder, died on the 17th of September, 1869.
John Elder was a marine engineer and shipbuilder, who developed practical compounding marine engines and conceived the modern integrated shipbuilding yard, basically without his work the shipbuilding yards of the Clyde would not be the same. Elder gave the world major contributions to engineering and shipbuilding:
The practical development of compounding in marine engines. This made long-distance steam shipping both possible and economic, and also improved the economics of shorter-haul steam navigation. It allowed the extension of steam power to cargo liners and tramp ships, and greatly accelerated the substitution of steam for sail in the world's shipping. To this should be added his patent for triple and quadruple expansion marine engines, foreshadowing later 19th century developments.
He initiated the conception of the modern heavy engineering workshop, with overhead gantry cranes developed, as seen in the still-existing Fairfield Engine Works in Govan.
The conception of the modern integrated shipbuilding yard. With only minor alterations the plan of the present Govan Shipyard survives largely as John Elder conceived it. It was the foremost yard on the Clyde until the great liners were built at John Brown's, and has outlasted most, including the builder of the "Queens". As one of BAe Systems' yards, it is still a highly effective production unit, notable for building the largest elements of the Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers.
At its peak production in 1868-69, the final eighteen months of Elder's life, the Fairfield Yard employed 4,000 people and produced 18 engine sets of 6100 aggregate horsepower and 14 ships of 27,000 aggregate tonnage. Elder had created one of the greatest enterprises of its kind in the world.
Elder was also a model employer of his 4,000 workforce, with a real concern for the well-being of his men and their families. At his funeral, as reported by the Rev. Norman MacLeod "a very army of workmen, dressed like gentlemen, followed his body - column after column. Respectful crowds lined the streets, as if gazing on the burial of a prince; and every one of us .. felt that we had left a friend behind us."
His statue in Elder Park, Govan, erected by public subscription in 1888, carries the inscription: "By his many inventions, particularly in connection with the compound engine, he effected a revolution in engineering second only to that accomplished by James Watt, and in great measure, originated the developments in steam propulsion which have created modern commerce" and: "His unwearied efforts to promote the welfare of the working classes, his integrity of character, firmness of purpose, and kindness of heart, claim, equally with his genius, enduring remembrance".
If you have ever been in The Lord of the Isles Wetherspoon bar in Renfrew, you may have notice some prints and memorabilia of Elder in the pub. Elder Park, Govan is also named in his honour, you will also see the statue there.

If you were the woman in this scenario, how would you respond to each of his questions? And do you think a lot of this kind of content is manufactured?
https://www.instagram.com/reel/DFi8rZPO7rD/?igsh=MXYyc3RjcHB4Zmc1aw==
"So do you take into account the fact that on average a male full-time employee works longer hours than a female full-time employee?"
This difference in hours worked is a direct result of the sexism built into the economy. Namely, the fact that women are responsible for vastly more unpaid work than men are. In fact, once you take into account unpaid work, women either work the same amount [1] or more than men [2].
The way the labor market is structured (e.g., unflexible and/or unpredictable work times, overtime expectations, poor accommodation for child and elder carers, etc.) is a result of the sexist expectation for an "unencumbered worker" (i.e., a man with a wife who stays home to take care of the kids, house, family, etc.). It's unrealistic and hampers women's participation in the paid workforce.
I talk more about this here and expand on unpaid labor in this post.
"What about if you did it on an hourly rate? What would be the gender hourly pay gap?"
Yes, this Pew Research Analysis [3] found the median hourly earnings of women were 82% that of men's hourly earnings. Notably, this was even larger than the gap for full-time workers (84%), meaning that the gender hourly pay gap is even worse than the full-time gap.
The results for the EU are similar [4] with women earning 13% less per hour than men.
In the UK, women earn 7% less than men per hour [5].
In Australia, women earn ~10% less than men per hour [6].
"If a woman was working fewer hours but earning the same rate per hour as a man doing the same job would that show up as a gender pay gap?"
If reporting the pay gap by hourly earnings (as above), then it would not. If reporting by annual income, without additional adjustments, it would. Reference my answer to the first question for how differences in hours worked are also a product of economic sexism.
Also, see this post for more on the gender pay gap.
And do you think a lot of this kind of content is manufactured?
I'm not sure what you mean by this ... do you mean: do I think this sort of content is staged/fake?
I don't know. I'm sure some such videos are fake, but I don't know about "a lot". However, you don't need to completely fake a video to create biased framing. It does appear to be cut together, and I wouldn't be surprised if they cut out some/most of that woman’s responses to the questions. Such manipulations are a common form of digital propaganda.
That being said, it's also possible she just wasn't prepared for those questions. She said her data did not reference hourly earnings, and based on the context, I suspect she was supposed to be specifically questioned about her data. She may not have been supposed to reference data outside of her own, or she may have simply not come prepared to do so.
I hope that helps!
