This morning, my therapist shared this really useful hack and I feel like it could be useful to share: it is the pie chart method.

Essentially, it is a great tool to identify the behaviours, situations and events that caused a certain effect, in order for you to truly understand what really happened.

You simply draw a circle, identify the circumstances that caused the outcome and give each situation a percentage of its influence on the outcome.

For example: you bake a cake but it turns out horribly. It could be that 45% of the fault could be given to the oven that has malfunctioned, 30% to the wrongly calculated measurements of the ingredients, and 25% of your inexperience baking a cake. In the end, you will realise that it may not be your fault, and therefore you should stop being so angry at yourself.

Disclaimer: sometimes the fault could be given to you. This is a useful method for those of you who may constantly be harsh to yourselves.

It's a suitably posh and nerdy hobby, he could try to capture some of his memories of Meridian (the flowers in Phobos' garden would make for banger paintings, probably), and it would also be the biggest Fuck You to Phobos. Get painted, you iconoclastic bitch.

This would probably never happen because Cedric would rage-quit two wonky brushstrokes in, but hey, maybe he can use art to work on his temper.

@whcwashe mentioned a couple days ago how overlooked john's artistic ability is, including the way he's able to paint sigils with such mathematical perfection (i.e. in the nbc pilot), and i just think with how bookish he is + how adept in mathematics they show him being as a kid in dead boy's heart, it would make perfect sense for him to have researched and borrowed a lot of geometric artistic techniques from leonardo da vinci to use in the more physical aspects of magic and ritual.

one my favorite parts of watching voyager for the first time is how tuvok brings a whole new context to spock.

that tumblr post floating around where vulcans basically see spock as jvn with gritty? completely believable after watching voyager.

i mean, canon basically stayed away from vulcans in tng and ds9 (notable exceptions excluded of course), so it wasn't until voyager that there was something new on the vulcan front.

then suddenly there's tuvok with his wholly logical approach and his super emotional suppression techniques, and he's denying vulcans can have friends because the emotional connotation of the word cannot be fulfilled, and he's explaining to harry kim about how "to the trained vulcan intellect, intense romantic love is nothing more than a set of stereotypical behaviors" and humans who don't have vulcan discipline are swept along by the process, and you look back at spock and go...oh. oh.

one of those fun little traits that endlessly humor me about writing miranda but that i dont really get to talk about is that shes a reverse monsterfucker. and shes REALLY obvious about it once you notice it.

like shes out here just talking like all the monsterfuckers do but its specifically about humans. their hands are so soft, so small, so dexterious and light... their skin is so soft, so smooth. they are covered in fuzz and hair and have such an excellent mane right up on top of their heads that makes them look so proud and noble. they curve so excellently, all supple and with so many excellent handholds to keep them close. they are even self-heated! they feel so warm all of the time! perfect for cuddles, perfect for holding close, they let you know all of their little parting touches and make it so obvious every time they do touch you!!

honestly, to miranda humans are like... a luxury good. like thats the association in her mind, between the feeling of our hair and skin, and the way that it is skin and presses inwards to provide cushioning, and are warmed, and fit perfectly against her. shes like someone getting flustered for a werepanther. its really very cute.

Of course that crowd would have a bunch of people with 88 in their username. Of course they fucking would.

(For context: I enjoy “cleaning” the internet. I’ll sometimes go through tags where fascists, bigots, child predators, etc. are known to dwell. I look for dogwhistles; and if I find dogwhistles, I go deep into the blog to make sure it’s actually what I think it is. I’ll usually find one bad blog, then go into who liked their posts, which usually uncovers a bunch of others. I block all of them so I have their usernames saved in my blocklist, then, one-by-one, I report them in detail for whatever evil shit they’re doing.)

(Don’t worry; I’d never go after someone for writing fiction. Look at my blog for Christ’s sake.)
