When Chaos Becomes a Choice: The Strange Comfort of Online Conflict
There’s something unsettling about scrolling through Facebook and stumbling upon people who seem to thrive in constant arguments. They’re not just defending their opinions—they’re starting fights. Every post is a battlefield. Every comment is laced with sarcasm, shade, or an outright insult. You wonder: how did it come to this? Why do some people seem to choose war over peace, especially on a…

Listen, this is a pretty hopeless vent below. i am rational and know things are going to keep working and laws are getting drafted, but a vent is a vent.
And I felt pretty hopeless.
Don't you feel terrified that even to your best abilities, AI can generate something arguably better, economically viable? Doesn't it make shivers down to your bones knowing your 20 or so years of efforts are now worth pennies, and the future you planned os now only the next 5 years until it's fully trained?
Doesn't it scare you that people who pay to use it are paying to have the privilege to train it and soon enough they too will be replaced? That artistry is one of the most ancient works, a millenary job, the expression of human existence, and it's now commodified with the blood and sweat of every artist that existed before? That those artists, the dead and alive ones, never ever and never would agree with their work being used like this? And that there's people who rejoice on the misery they feel?
That the joy of seeing a new art is dead because you have to make sure you're supporting a real person? That the smile is replaced with a double take, a zoom in on the features?
The complete destruction of the search engines that both show and spit out nonsense, for the untrained eye to be unable to know the reality they love in, as well of the past they'll never get to fully understand, because a machine who knows nothing generated some Greek art? Indigenous? Fake animals? Fake political mishaps?
Doesn't it make you cry that you'll never have money to throw at the problem because your enemy has more money alone than all of the 99% living humans on this earth at this moment? That they're happy never to ever hire an artist again? A voice actor? A designer?
That my dream was once to sell my art on DeviantArt and recently they congratulated the biggest seller they had, who's now an AI generator that makes ladies with big boobs.
That other people who don't know my grief tell me to "adapt" and "use it too" so I won't be forgotten?
To make me wonder how people once made the most beautiful lace by hand and now it's worth less than what I breathe and that's now my future?
That once art brought me joy and now it makes me wonder for how long can I keep doing it?

I don´t know why I´m seeing so much negativity about Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
I´ve seen people say it looks like a mobile game. What the heckie kind of phone games are you playing? Veilguard looks great, I think you just want something to be mad about.
Stay mad I guess. I´m gonna have a great time. Can´t wait to smooch Taash right between her horns.

So I shared a post about how much I liked the Kendrick Lamar halftime show on Facebook and now my Facebook feed is filled with random posts about how awful the show was 😐
Like I always knew Facebook and its algorithm sucks but now I'm giving it some serious side eye.

How Social Media Affects How We Feel
Tumblr media
Now, anywhere you go, social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook are so common.
It makes it easier for us to communicate to our peers and to find interesting stuff on the web. However, did you know that it can influence our emotions as well?
Sometimes, when we see other people's posts, we might feel like our own lives aren't as great. We might compare ourselves to others and feel sad or left out.
And when we spend too much time scrolling through social media, it can make us feel stressed and tired.
But it's not all bad! Social media helps us feel less alone and more connected.
The trick is to use social media smartly. We should take breaks from it, especially when we're feeling down.
Therefore, social media is both a friend and an enemy at the same time. It's for us to pick how it makes a difference in our lives.

rant below
people will be like "I wish I could stay home and nap all the time like you" and like
no you don't it's literal hell. Not to suck my own dick but I'm such an ambitious person and I have drive and determination AND I can't do anything with it because I have "too sleepy syndrome"
Someone told me that sounds like an ideal problem to have and I wanted to punch them in the face. Do you understand what it means? That I can't stand up for more than an hour? Or even sit up for very long sometimes? Sure, I can push myself and just do it. But then I'll get sick and feverish with migraines and joint pain and I'll be even more useless than if I'd been allowed to pace myself.
For reference, the average level of exhaustion in a CFS patient is the equivalent of a normal person who's stayed up for 72 hours straight.
I can't work. I didn't finish my degree. I can't clean my room. I can't clean my shower. I can't drive. If it's not an activity I can do in bed, I've had to give it up. Its lucky that I like writing and digital art. (Roller-skating, biking, swimming, and hiking used to be my favorites, but suuuure I'm not actually sick Im just faking cause I hate exercise)
Every single day is exactly the same over and over and over and it's melting my brain. And there are people who still have the audacity to fight me when I call this syndrome a disability (including my own therapist)
I am grieving today. I had so many dreams.

so...does twitter just not...work anymore?
i mean, i know why it's garbage now, and that's the same reason i no longer use it regularly. but very occasionally when i want to reach out to a writer of some article i read, or somebody i heard on a podcast, to tell them i enjoyed the thing--twitter is still the only way to find them.
so i was still doing that. and today, when i posted for the first time in in a while, to thank a writer for an article, i got this popup that i've never seen before.
it informed me that until they are sure i'm a human, they may limit my use/access to others, and the only way for me to fix that (aka a problem they created, cuz i've been a human for all the years my account has visibly existed and already been used, which i'm sure they can see cuz it's their website lol) is for me to 'help them learn by spending time engaging with my timeline and connecting with others.'
in other words, if i want to have a twitter account that functions properly, i am now required to 'engage' with the toxic mess twitter has become until the site thinks i've done enough to show how active and happy everything still is under a new ruler prove my loyalty, rather than being allowed to treat it like a freaking social media site where i would engage when i want to and enjoy doing so, and not any more often than that.
but no, that isn't how things work anymore, not in the dystopian hell of one gross billionaire who is literally holding user accounts hostage because the world didn't rejoice and love twitter more when it became all about him, so now we can't even have formerly-nice things.
'when we’re able to observe more usage of your account, you’ll be unlocked to be able to be seen by, and have direct access to, more people' it says. i don't know if that's why my post tagging the author is shown under 'replies' on my profile and not 'posts' or if that's just evidence of another way the site is broken now?
but as somebody who's heard a lot about twitter being overrun by nazis and cutting all the most useful employees and just generally not working as well or being as pleasant...i still hadn't experienced much of what it's actually like these days. and even just trying to briefly stop by definitely made me feel like yeah, this is really not a place where i belong. or want to be.
good to know, but also weirdly sad. turns out i don't have to be deeply attached to something, to hate when it gets taken over by somebody hostile to what i thought the thing was all about.

In the late 1990s, Type O Negative was at the height of their success, blending dark, gothic metal with elements of doom and industrial to create a unique sound that captivated audiences around the world. Known for their moody lyrics and somber yet powerful musical style, the band, led by the enigmatic Peter Steele, carved out a legacy in the heavy metal scene that still resonates today. One particularly poignant moment captured in a previously unseen photo from backstage in 1998 or 1999 gives a rare glimpse into the personal life of Steele, the band’s towering frontman.
In the photograph, Steele is seen with his bandmates and Cariann, a woman who had been close to the band during that period. According to Cariann, the moment was simple yet intimate: “All I remember is that I was adjusting his neck because it was bothering him after his show,” she recalls. “It was backstage afterwards. He said it was bothering him, so I worked on it for him with massage and then a chiro adjustment.” This candid moment captures the care and connection between the band and those closest to them, away from the dark and dramatic persona Steele often portrayed on stage.
Peter Steele’s towering presence and commanding vocals made him a beloved figure in the metal community. His dark, brooding lyrics often explored themes of love, death, and inner torment, which resonated deeply with fans. Type O Negative’s albums, particularly October Rust (1996) and Bloody Kisses (1993), are considered masterpieces of gothic and doom metal, blending haunting melodies with Steele's distinctive baritone voice. The band’s music was not only a reflection of Steele’s inner struggles but also a celebration of the beauty in darkness.
The photo shared by Cariann and Mike Di Paola, showcasing this more personal side of Steele, offers fans a rare glimpse behind the curtain of the musician’s life, reminding them of the human connections that exist behind the public persona of a rock star. Type O Negative's legacy continues to influence metal music, and images like this one remind us of the complex and nuanced figures behind the music.
