Colour Green
Green is all around us. It is a color that has long been associated with nature, tranquility, and peace and is arguably the most important color students should have access to in their learning environments. Exposure to live plants and the color green have a positive impact upon visual and verbal creative thinking in classroom settings. #There are hundreds of studies that support the idea that…

I've had a very productive day at the end of my badly-needed long weekend - I took out and stored my AC units, bought and installed new blinds for my front window (the ones that were there when I moved in had a bunch of broken pieces and wouldn't raise more than halfway, and it was worth the $30 and half-hour to me to just replace them myself instead of convincing property management to do it), but I'm being brought to my knees by trying to convince my stupid printer to work

Okay Canadians, it's our turn to vote and we've got to try not to mess it up like certain other countries.
Election day is THIS MONDAY (APRIL 28TH).
If you are a Canadian citizen and at least 18, you can vote.
If you didn't advance vote / mail vote, then you must go on Monday. Check out [elections dot ca], all you need is your postal code and it will tell you where your voting station is and the hours. Lines were long in some places on day 1 of advance voting, but that's extremely rare. You should be in and out in 15 minutes tops normally.
You do not need to check registration or anything. You are probably registered if you have filed taxes and checked the box for election registration, but even if you have moved since then, it is fine. If you are not on their physical list already on Monday, they will add you in like 1 minute with your ID. It's easy. Trust me, for some reason I am perpetually not registered despite always checking the tax form box, so I go through it every election. It takes 60 seconds and they don't judge you.
You need to bring: your government photo ID OR 2 pieces of pseudo ID like a utility bill and your student ID where at least one has your address. If you have none of the above, but you have a friend who lives in the same polling station area, you can literally bring them and they are allowed to vouch for you and you just sign a declaration page that you are not doing voter fraud.
Have to work? You are legally required to have 3 consecutive hours to vote. If your shift somehow doesn't have 3 consecutive hours off during the time your polling station is open, your job must give you the extra time off with pay to make it 3 consecutive hours. It's on the elections canada page under the FAQ if you don't believe me.
Also I'm not saying your hockey team will lose in the playoffs if you don't vote, but I'm not not saying that either.
Summary:
-Check where to vote with postal code at elections dot ca
-Bring ID
-Global slide into facism? Bad. Voting? Good!
IT'S THIS MONDAY!!! DON'T FORGET!

My dear lgbt+ kids,
If you’re changing your name (for marriage reasons or gender reasons), that’s an exciting step! - and it can also come with the (potentially more boring or even unpleasant or nerve-wracking) task of having to update your contact information for a lot of places.
Here’s a list with some places you should keep in mind:
1. Government and legal documents
• Identity card / Passport
• Driver’s license
• Social security or tax office
• Health insurance provider
• Any court documents or registrations (for example marriage certificate, birth certificate etc.)
2. Banking and finances
• Bank accounts (including savings and joint accounts)
• Credit cards
• PayPal or other payment platforms
• Loan or mortgage providers
• Insurance policies (life, car, household, etc.)
3. Employment and education
• Employer / HR department (for payroll, contracts, email, etc.)
• University or school records
• Certificates and diplomas (if you want them reissued with your new name)
• LinkedIn and other professional platforms
• Unions or professional associations
Unemployment office
4. Health and medical
• General practitioner and specialists
• Dentist
• Therapist / mental health providers
• Vaccination records and digital health apps
• Prescription services or pharmacies
5. Daily life and memberships
• Phone and internet providers
• Utilities (electricity, water, gas)
• Rental agreements or homeowners’ documents
• Streaming services (Netflix, Spotify, etc.)
• Library cards
• Gym memberships
• Retail loyalty programs (Payback etc.)
6. Online presence and subscriptions
• Email accounts
• Social media profiles
• Blogs and personal websites
• Substack or Patreon
• Online shops you use often (Amazon, Etsy, etc.)
• Newsletter subscriptions
7. Travel and transportation
• Airline loyalty programs
• Train and public transport cards (monthly tickets etc.)
• Car registration and insurance
• Toll subscriptions or parking permits
Bonus Tips:
Consider making a spreadsheet to track where you’ve already updated your info and where you still need to.
Some places will require official documentation (like a court certificate or new ID), so keep digital copies handy if needed.
Laws on name changes can be wildly different in different countries. When in doubt on whether a certain point is applicable or necessary for you, make sure to look it up for your country specifically.
Don’t forget the more personal stuff, like updating your name in group chats with your friends or in your private email signature!
If you’re changing your name for gender reasons, you can often update your information quietly or request discretion when dealing with customer service - but bureaucracy can still be frustrating. Feeling a bit anxious about potentially encountering transphobia etc. doesn’t mean you’re weak or that you’re not trans enough for this step or anything like that. It’s a normal feeling in a world where transphobia exists.
Changing your name can feel overwhelming, especially when it’s tied to something deeply personal like gender or a new life chapter. But every form you fill out is also an act of affirmation - of who you are now and the life you’re building. That’s worth celebrating.
With all my love,
Your Tumblr Dad

If you live in the US, STOP SCROLLING
This is your reminder to make a Voting Plan!
Step 1: Check your Registration
Registered already? Go to Step 3!
Step 2: Register to Vote
Step 3: Learn about your state's Early Voting Options
Like early voting and have that option? Skip to Step 5!
Step 4: Explore your Day-Of Voting Options
Step 5: Research Candidates
Step 6: Share your Plans
Detailed sample down below!
Step 1: I'm in California, so I clicked here at https://www.vote411.org/check-registration
Tumblr media
Clicking on that took me to my state's registration check page, where I filled out in those fun black squares with my info...
Tumblr media
...and there's my confirmation! This also provides info on where I'm currently registered to vote, which is good to know when looking up ballot drop-off locations.
Tumblr media
Step 2: Since I already am registered I could skip this, but just to show it off here's what the online tool at https://www.vote411.org/register looks like!
Tumblr media
The site asks you to put in your name and mailing address, and then sends you off to your own state's voter registration page to finish it up!
Step 3: Since I'm in California, I went to https://www.vote411.org/select-state and selected that state to bring up CA's voting information page.
Tumblr media
And here's what my info looks like! The top of the page gives a quick overview of registration deadlines...
Tumblr media
...and scrolling down reveals a bunch of additional info for any further questions! I've selected Early Voting on the lefthand tab to bring that up here.
Tumblr media
Skimming this, it looks like California offers voting by mail, which is what I want to do.
Scrolling further down the lefthand menu I pulled up the Vote by Mail tab to learn more...
Tumblr media
...and based on the information there I went to find the tab that would tell me about Drop Boxes in California!
Tumblr media
Following that link brings me to California's early voting drop-off page.
Tumblr media
For now let's just use Disneyland as our address to see where we can drop things off. Entering the county and city information we get this list:
Tumblr media
Checking the box to Display Results on Map, it looks like there's a drop off location right by Disney that is open 24 hours! I went ahead and screenshotted the address on my computer, and opened it in google maps so that I could keep track of where it was.
Tumblr media
Perfect, I now have a plan for dropping off my mail-in ballot!
Finally, I want to know where my mail-in ballot is. Assuming you live in a state with mail-in ballots but haven't seen yours yet, you can usually track them or request new ones if your address has recently changed.
I just googled "California mail in ballot tracking" and wound up on this page.
Tumblr media
Filling out the little form at the Where'sMyBallot link (name and date of birth), I can see that my ballot has been sent out and is en route!
Tumblr media
Since it was sent on October 7th, I suspect it's already arrived, and lo and behold checking my mailbox there it is buried under all the political mailers!
Step 4: Since I will be voting by mail, I will skip Step 4 for now (though vote411.org lists traditional voting areas/what I'd need to bring so that's where I'd get that info if needed!)
Step 5: When doing research I started with https://www.vote411.org/ballot, since it gives a preview image of all of the items that will be on my ballot based on my address.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can click on any of these to see the candidate options, and their statements if they've been provided. However for many of these options on vote411.org there aren't too many additional details, so I want to do my own research looking at neutral voting summaries and candidate endorsements by groups I align with politically!
For the election summary, I started with the General Election Official Voter Information Guide booklet that was mailed to my address a few weeks ago. This is the best source of unbiased voting information in my opinion, especially when it comes to state and local propositions since it will summarize them and also include opinion pieces written for and against each one. You can also access it online, as shown below!
Tumblr media
To find it, I googled "California Official Voter Information Guide", and made sure it was sourced from my local government.
Another good source of information I used is npr.org, or National Public Radio. NPR provides news that is free to read and listen to, and is one of my personal favorite ways to stay informed. There's also local branches of the station for every state, and each one will usually have a voting guide with side-by-side comparisons that makes it easy to read.
To find mine, I googled "California NPR Voting Guide"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally if there was anything on the ballot where I wasn't convinced one way or the other on certain candidates or initiatives, I checked out some political endorsements!
A few of the ones I looked at are Planned Parenthood (women's health and abortion access), the Sunrise Movement (climate activism), the Sierra Club (climate change, national park preservation). I found these by googling "[Name of org] voting guide california".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since I'm voting by mail I could keep these webpages opened as I filled out my ballot.
For voting in person, I'd recommend writing candidates down as a cheat sheet to bring into the poll so you can remember what you want to vote for! https://www.vote411.org/ballot will let you arrange that cheat sheet real easily.
Now that my ballot is filled out I'll just drop it off at the address I found in Step 3 - setting a time for myself, I'll plan to drop it off when I go for a walk this afternoon! 👍
Step 6:
After I finished up I went ahead and posted on facebook and to my friends in discord on how I'd made a voting plan, to help encourage friends/family to do the same!
You can be as public or as personal as you want here, but sharing can help encourage others to put a plan together too - if you made it this far it can even be as simple as reblogging this post with a message saying "I Made a Voting Plan"!

Get Ready For The Most Rigged Election In History...
Highlight #1 👇
Immigration Accountability Project: Kamala Harris Admin “Orders all federal agencies to provide voter registration information to everyone they come in contact with. — State election officials are not permitted to ask for proof of citizenship for applicants who fill out the federal form.”
Highlight #2 👇
House Judiciary Committee, They’ve made it “virtually impossible to prevent non-citizens from registering to vote”
Highlight #3
“There are strong indications that some of these NGOs are providing the aliens with voter registration forms”
Highlight #4 👇
DHS estimates “30 MILLION non-citizens residing in the United States”
- Rosemary Jenks with the Immigration Accountability Project
Makes me wonder if there really will be an election... You can't arrest anyone unless they are allowed to commit the crime. If it is stopped before it occurs then they aren't guilty of anything. 🤔

GERMANY FIC WRITERS' RETREAT
Dear Fic Writers! (Sherlock fandom and beyond!)
In this post you can find all the info on the 2025 European Fic Writers Retreat that is now most definitely taking place in Germany from 7-10 August 2025!
Tumblr media
Here are the details: -Arrival from 4pm on 7 August. -Checkout at noon on 10 August. -Price: 360 euros (or less if you share a room, see below). This includes accommodation and food (which we'll still have to cook ourselves, however).
Activities There will be 3 writing/fandom workshops/activities each day. The rest of the time is for writing, hanging out and making new fandom friends. Also there will be daily walks to the supermarket (10 mins) to get all the food we need. :)
Venue The accommodation has 8 bedrooms, with 2 separate beds in each. This means that there is place for 8 to 16 people, depending on how many people are willing to share a room. (There is also a garden, billiards and table tennis just for us!)
Space will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis (based on date of payment received). If you are among the first 8 people to register, you won't have to share a room if you prefer not to. (Six people have already applied as per 10 May, yay!)
N.B. If there are more than 8 applicants and you are willing to share a room with one fellow writer, the price is 130 euros lower for each of you who are sharing a room! (i.e. the costs will be 230 euros per person)
The location is in the Eifel region, in the very west of Germany. You have to arrange your own transport there, although there might be a possibility of getting a ride from Koblenz to the accommodation, if enough people travel by car and are willing to pick up others.
Organisation Be aware that this retreat isn't anything fancy or well-organised; it's just me (@shirleycarlton) having made a reservation for a large holiday house in hopes of finding enough fellow fanfic (slash) writers who would like to attend and spend some quality time together.
Originally, this concept arose from the Sherlock fandom, and I (Shirley) personally exclusively write johnlock. However, a lot of Sherlock writers have (understandably) moved on to other fandoms, so whether you're currently into Good Omens, Our Flag Means Death, or RWRB, it's all fine, as John Watson would say. :)
How to register If you would like to register, all you need to do is take these two steps:
Step 1: fill in this registration form.
Step 2: After receiving your registration form, I will send you an email with the payment details. Your registration becomes final once I have received your payment of the deposit, which is 200 euros.
The registration deadline is 31 May.
Next year If you love the idea of a fic writers retreat, but are unable to attend this year, you can leave your email address in this form, so that you will automatically receive an invitation next year! (Choose the " next year" option at the end.)
Tagging a few people again below the cut. Please help signal boost!

The phone alarm blasted through your skull, sounding like one of the commuter trains that rattled over your apartment had derailed and crashed through your ceiling. That actually sounded preferable to waking up at the ungodly hour of 6:30 am. The course calendar for Fall term at Gotham University opened in five minutes and you still hadn’t decided what classes you were going to take. It was your first term back in a long time.
Going to an out-of-state school had seemed like a way to find yourself on your own terms, and Gotham was far enough from home to feel like another planet. Two years of general education classes with a smattering of electives hadn’t quite been the elucidating experience you expected, but it had been fun. That had all gone to shit when you’d had to leave Gotham at the end of your sophomore year, taking an extended break from school to care for your dad. You’d called it taking a ‘gap year’ but it was closer to three.
Well, that was all over. Now you were a super-senior-aged-junior with enough trauma to stop your academic advisor from pushing you too hard to declare a major and almost enough credits to cobble a degree together.
You were currently waffling between majoring in civil engineering and English lit, both of which felt equally uninteresting. Last night you had planned out schedules for each option and decided to literally sleep on it, putting sticky notes with class codes scribbled on them under your pillow.
Rubbing sleep out of your eyes, you cracked open your laptop. You still had a few precious minutes to make a decision. The clarity you had wanted hadn’t miraculously come overnight, both options still sounded unbearable. You reached under your pillow and decided to go with whichever one you grabbed first. Civil Engineering, on a yellow crumpled 3x3 sheet.
Well, at least you were being decisive, which Titus would say was an improvement. Your friend since freshman year at GU and roommate for the past three months, he worked nights as a bouncer at a club, Mora’s.
Typing the codes into the school’s course registration system was a race to see if you could finish before the website crashed. Once you had double checked the numbers you clicked ‘submit’ and held your breath.
“You’re fucking kidding me!” you blurted as the schedule notification popped up. You’d gotten in to three of your four classes. And the fourth… “Waitlist full? It hasn’t even been two minutes!”
You closed the laptop and carried it out to the kitchen, sitting at the counter and pouring yourself a bowl of cereal. Crunching on Honeycomb violently expressed your dissatisfaction at the college experience to anyone who would listen.
“Damn, you’re up early,” Titus said, closing the front door behind him. He was wearing a smart black leather bomber over a white tee shirt, some gold jewelry accenting the outfit. He didn’t dress like your stereotypical idea of a bouncer, choosing to match the glam and glitz of the interior of the club. On the rare occasion a patron got on his bad side, misjudging his strength based on his appearance, they found themselves thrown to the curb in the blink of an eye.
“Hey,” you said.
He stomped off his military boots at the doorway and walked over to you, giving you a side hug which you accepted gratefully despite the glitter that transferred onto your black tee.
“What’s going on?” he asked, detecting your sour mood.
“Trying to sign up for classes. Everything’s full,” you said around a mouthful of cereal. You tapped the spoon on your closed laptop thoughtfully. “Maybe it’s not worth it, you know? College? It seems overrated.”
Titus plonked his backpack on the counter and pulled up onto one of the barstools. When Mora’s had remodeled over the summer he’d grabbed them from the dumpster, polished the stainless steel and conditioned the leather. You’d told him you could buy a set of stools that weren’t so beat up. He had waved your offer away, saying they had ‘character’ which apparently included the metallic squeak from the chair when he swiveled to face you.
“Honestly?” he said. “Yeah, it is. So overrated.” He grabbed a handful of cereal and popped a few of the hexagons in his mouth, crunching loudly. “My marketing degree does come in handy working at Mora’s, though.” He elbowed you playfully when you laughed.
Moving back to Gotham, getting this apartment with Titus, it hadn’t come cheap. You were lucky to not have to work through college for the time being, but it came with a catch. Your inheritance from your dad was locked behind a condition: finish school, get a degree.
“How was work?” you asked, wanting to think about anything other than the upcoming term.
“Broke up a few fights, had some drinks thrown at me, nothing crazy.” Titus pulled a handful of cards out of his pocket and slid them across the counter to you. “Some kids tried to pass these off as legit.” He crossed his arms on the countertop and laid his head down on them, closing his eyes.
You thumbed through the small pile of cards. The IDs were obvious fakes, the lamination had blistering from a defective card printer and the photos looked like they might be from a high school yearbook. “‘Drew Peacock?’ No fucking way. That’s so funny.”
“Yup. Droopy Cock, ha ha,” Titus said dryly, voice muffled from underneath his crossed arms. “And get this, there was a guy at the bar trying to tell everyone he knows the Batman. Like, actually knows him personally.”
He put on a faux sleaze-bag voice, dripping in slime. “’Hey lady, if you come back to my place I can ask him to come too.’ That type of thing.”
The Batman. Gotham’s resident vigilante, the Dark Knight himself. He was practically a myth, taking the law into his own hands.
“Are people into that kind of thing?” you asked.
“You’d be surprised,” Titus chuckled. “People are into all kinds of crazy shit. There’s something about the mask, the mystery. Gets people going.”
“Yeah, well, not me. Someone who gets off on beating the shit out of people in dark alleys? No thanks,” you said. You’d never seen the Batman and you never wanted to, the whole thing creeped you out. You preferred your men nice, bubbly, and vanilla.
“Don’t knock it till you try it,” Titus said. He stood up off the bar stool wearily and stretched, limbs creaking and cracking from a long shift. “Anyway, I’m going to crash. Get a good schedule for me, ok?”
Titus headed to his room, shedding layers of dark leather on the way. You opened your laptop and begrudgingly returned to the registration portal. Clicking through the remaining open classes, you hoped for something to catch your eye. Pottery? Yawn. Statistics? Please.
While you were browsing the course catalog, an email notification popped up in the corner of your screen. An announcement from the school’s Fine Arts department.
“Due to the high demand for Professor Wayne’s Art 111 course he has graciously agreed to open up another slot, available now. Seats are first-come-first serve. The course is open to all students, regardless of pathway.”
You were desperate to be done with registration and had no better ideas, so you took the email as a sign. You copy-pasted the course code into your schedule, clicked ‘submit,’ and waited while the loading icon swam laps around your cursor. Once you got a confirmation email of your Fall schedule change, you let out a sigh of relief.
It was only after you had signed up you started to wonder what you’d just gotten into. You skimmed through the course summary. Taught by Professor Bruce Wayne. That name rang a bell, but you couldn’t quite place it. The only catch was that it was a night class. That would have been nice to know before signing up. Too late now.
“You will learn the basic elements of artistic composition, including form, shadow, value, line…” you mumbled, reading the course description. The class sounded slightly better than abusing Titus’ goodwill to get a job at Mora’s washing dishes, spending the next fifty years paying back your loans while your inheritance sat in a trust fund you couldn’t access.
It hurt, knowing that your dad was making you jump through hoops for support even after he was gone. You’d taken care of him more than almost anyone, wasn’t that enough? Well, Dad, I’m doing it, you thought.
You closed your laptop and checked the time. Still painfully early. Going back to sleep might have been nice, make up for some of the stolen time, but you were too wired after the stress of registration. Instead, you tossed on a jacket and boots and headed out into the soggy Gotham morning in search of a real breakfast. One week left of break, you might as well try to enjoy it.
* * *
Standing in the checkout line at the GU bookstore, you again wished that you had looked at the course description of Art 111 a little more closely. Your arms were wrapped around a stack of art supplies carefully balanced atop two massive pads of paper, one was something called “newsprint,” and the other was “medium weight dry media cold press drawing paper.”
“What’s the difference, paper is paper,” you grumbled to yourself as you moved forward in line. The bookstore had just opened for the term and the line was as slow as you remembered it being back before you left Gotham. Some things never change, and apparently the number of cashiers at the GU bookstore was one of them.
You studied your pile of drawing implements, hoping you had gotten everything Professor Wayne’s syllabus had listed. Charcoal (vine and compressed), a kneaded eraser, a vinyl eraser, a set of sketching pencils in hardnesses 2H, HB, B, 2B, 4B, and 6B, a pencil sharpener (“please make sure your sharpener has a receptacle so we can avoid shavings on the ground”), a ruler, tape, and some other items buried underneath that you couldn’t remember. It was so much stuff that you’d resigned to a second, later trip to the bookstore for your actual textbooks once you had seen the size of the paper pads.
There were a few things you’d added that weren’t required, but you thought you might need. A pencil case, a few colored pencils just for fun, and a portfolio case to fit your supplies in. Wandering around the notoriously rainy campus with a big glob of wet paper sounded awful, so you’d splurged for the portfolio that was specifically labeled as waterproof.
When you finally reached the cashier, they eyed your mess of supplies warily. You plopped them onto the checkout counter, wringing your hands that were sore from holding it all for too long.
The cashier tallied up your total, beeping each item with a handheld scanner. You watched with unease as the price on the screen kept going up. Thanks, Professor Wayne, you thought. Real nice first impression, making me pay two hundred bucks for your class before I even get in the door.
“Student ID?” The cashier asked. She pointed at a sign hanging from the back of the cash register advertising a promotion. “It’s 10% off if you have it with you, this week only.”
“Oh, yeah, sure,” you said and dug through your wallet for it. “Here you go.”
They took the card and turned it over, inspecting it. “This is from three years ago.”
Shit. You hadn’t had a chance to get a new one yet since moving back. “I’m getting a new one soon,” you said. “Like, tomorrow. I’m getting back to school after taking a break for a while.”
“Sorry, the discount only applies with current school year ID,” the cashier said.
“What? It doesn’t say that anywhere on this,” you said, pointing at the sign. “It just says ‘with student ID.”
The cashier gave you a look that said “I don’t make the rules.”
“Your total is two hundred and thirteen dollars and forty three cents,” they said flatly.
You scoffed. Typical GU, pinching pennies despite somehow pulling endless tuition out of their students. You didn’t like it on principle. If you were stuck taking classes here, you wanted to do it as cheaply as possible.
Someone behind you cleared their throat. You turned to see a student, probably four years your junior, wearing a flat cap and stiff brown sweater over a button down shirt. A collection of supplies that looked suspiciously similar to your own selections were organized in a shopping basket on the ground in front of him. Since when did they have baskets? He raised an eyebrow then moved his gaze to your scramble of items on the counter disapprovingly.
“What?” you said.
“Are you done?” the kid asked. As if you, and not the lack of cashiers, was the reason the line was stuck at a snail’s pace.
“Excuse me?”
“I said, aren’t you going to check out? There’s a line,” he said, gesturing behind him at the ever-growing retinue of students, some of which were turning away awkwardly to avoid your gaze. He smiled smugly. “Or are you going to keep arguing about the senior discount?”
You just stared for a second, not believing what you’d heard. He waited for you to retort back, then when he realized it wasn’t coming, rolled his eyes and turned away.
Silently, you pulled out your card, paid the full price, and left with your armful of stuff.
* * *
“Seriously, when did people get so rude?” you asked Titus the next day, at Mora’s. You were eating together before his shift started to celebrate your first day of the term. Since you still had Art 111 class later in the evening, you’d brought your massive portfolio bag full of supplies with you to Mora’s, garnering a few looks on the way in from patrons you had almost smacked.
“Tell me about it,” he said, mid-bite into a hot Italian sub slider. “They’re fucking awful. Not us, of course.” A pickled pepperoncini fell off the sandwich onto his plate. You’d gotten a seitan pork roll and a slice of pie. It was your dinner, but for his schedule the meal was closer to brunch.
“I don’t know how you can eat those,” you said, pointing at the stray pepperoncini. “They’re way too vinegar-y.”
“Says the person having a Hot Shot,” he retorted. The drink was a Mora’s staple, half tequila half jalapeño brine. “The most brine-y drink on the planet.”
“Hey, there’s something about it, okay? We all have our vices,” you said, sipping the small glass. It was not a drink necessarily meant for sipping, but you liked to make it last.
A handful of Titus’ rings sat on the booth table from when he’d taken them off to eat. You picked up one of the pieces of jewelry and found that it was surprisingly heavy. It was meant for two fingers, the thick bands tapering to a slight point at the tip of each knuckle.
“Aren’t these illegal?” you said, turning it around in your hand. Titus grinned.
“What do you mean?” he asked coyly.
There was a third loop on the bottom, a wide oval that sat in your palm, giving you some grip. You glanced around to make sure no patrons were within hearing distance, then slipped it on and made a fist, miming a boxing jab. “Brass knuckles? Right? Aren’t these kind of retro?”
“That, my friend, is a gold statement ring.”
“It’s pretty heavy for a ring.”
“Maybe it moonlights as a paperweight.”
You chuckled. “You ever use it? Like actually on someone?”
He leaned back in the dark green velvet seat and sipped his blackberry lemonade. “Do you really want to know? I thought you didn’t like people who beat up bad guys in alleys,” he teased.
“Just wondering if they actually work,” you said, feeling the weight of the ring in your hand. It felt reassuring, the grip in your palm felt like it could do some real damage. “This kid on campus might need a good whack.”
Titus got serious and sat the four legs of his chair back on the ground. He held out a hand and you dutifully slipped the ring off and handed it back.
“Honestly,” he said. “It’s pretty brutal. It doesn’t look like much but it will fuck you up. And not just on the receiving end. You can shatter your wrist holding one wrong. You gotta really straighten out your hand, use your whole arm. It’s more of a threat than anything. If someone thinks I’m gonna pop them in the face with this then they might rethink trying to pick a fight.”
“Yeah, I think I’ll stick with my taser.”
Titus nodded. “Probably a good idea.” He twirled the ring around and held it up, showing you some detail you couldn’t make out.
“What am I looking at?”
“Right on the knuckles here, see that?”
You squinted and bent over your plate, finally seeing a small symbol embossed on each point of the ring.
“Is that, what is that? A ’T’? And a snake?”
“It’s ’T. S.’,” he said. “If I ever do have the misfortune of using these on someone, they won’t forget who did it in a hurry.” He downed the rest of his lemonade. “I’ve really only used them once or twice. It’s more for show, you know, fit the ‘tough bouncer’ look.”
A woman came over to the booth and Titus pocketed the ring in a flash.
“Hi Nicole,” Titus said. “How’s it goin’?”
She flashed you a business-womanly grin. She was dressed fashionably, a look fitting for the club’s manager.
“Hello Titus,” Nicole said. “You’ll be at the door at five, right?”
“Yes, of course. I was just about to head down there in a minute.”
“That’s great, I’m just making sure.” She turned to you and noticed your half-eaten plate of food. “How is everything, darling? Can I get you anything? On the house, of course.”
“Oh, no, everything’s delicious. Thank you! I’m just nervous, can’t eat that much. I’ve got class tonight in a bit, and I haven’t been to school in years, so it’s, you know—”
“Scary,” Titus finished. “School’s hard, always stressful.”
You nodded in agreement.
“Oh, night classes! That’s exciting, what school?” Nicole asked.
“GU.”
“That’s so nice. Well, I hope you have a good first day. And Titus, make it 4:50 if you can, would you please?”
He agreed, and Nicole left the two of you to talk to a table of patrons across the room.
When she was out of earshot, Titus said, “Four fifty? Come on. We aren’t even busy until six.” He shook his head and sighed. Then, after a pause, he picked up his fork and pointed with it at your plate. “Do you want that pie?”
“Go crazy,” you said, and pushed the plate across the booth table. Titus had comped the food, taking it out of his paycheck at the employee discount. As far as you were concerned, it was all his anyway.
“So, what’s this class tonight?”
“It’s this ‘intro to drawing’ course,” you said as you fiddled with your silverware. “I just had to pick something random to fill out my schedule. It’s basic stuff, I think, but it sounded interesting. Professor Wayne something.”
“You know, that actually sounds fun,” he said, then stopped in his tracks. “Wait a minute, did you say ‘Wayne’?”
“Yeah. Why, do you know him?”
“Do I know him?” He let out a quick bark of laughter.
“What? What’s so funny?”
“You really don’t know who he is?”
“No? Should I?” You dug in the recesses of your memory and came up empty-handed.
“Damn, that is so wild.” Titus ran a hand along his close cropped hair. “You’ve been away from Gotham for way too long, girl. The Waynes are old money Gotham, the family’s been around for, like, ever.”
Old money Gotham brought to mind art deco buildings, caviar and expensive wine, limousines with private drivers. Your mind filled with a vague picture of an old man, possibly bald with a beard, wearing an expensive old-fashioned suit and a pocket watch. You couldn’t stand the upper crust types in town, throwing charity galas that only benefitted themselves.
“What, so he’s rich?” you asked.
“Beyond belief. He’s a billionaire, I think.”
You scoffed. “He had me buy all this stuff, like two hundred bucks of supplies on top of tuition. Must be a cheapskate.” You gave the portfolio bag a tap with your foot.
Titus shook his head and downed the rest of his lemonade. “That’s rich types for you.”
“But he teaches at GU? I don’t get it, what would be the point? Some kind of vanity project?”
“No idea.”
“If I had that much money, I wouldn’t do shit. No school, no teaching, just relaxing.”
“You and me both.” Titus checked his phone and saw the time. “Shit, I’ve got to run. Look, tell me how it goes, okay?”
You said goodbye to Titus, lugging your portfolio bag and backpack out the side door of Mora’s. You headed to the nearest subway station and boarded the line headed for Gotham University. Well, you thought, I guess I’ll see what all the hype is about.

heh-the anon who said i js sent my first ask and now this is my second!!!!
ok so....is there anything from the 2K event YOU want to write/expand on? like smt YOU wanna do.....cause this is me telling u to do it <3
i love everything youve written so far and i think you should write smt that you kinda wanna do....if that makes sense....not saying ur not happy abt ALL of the asks-i can tell u love ur readers-but js, smt you want to do yk?
this is SO sweet of you my dearest anon, thank you so so much<33 hahaha it's silly but you make me feel seen, thank you for daring to send asks! proud of you. in general, i want to write more drabbles for the valkyries, but i've also had magical!dealer!remus on my mind lately, so that's what we're going for !
✶・•・✦・•・✶・✶・•・✦・•・✶
i will EXPLAIN magical!dealer!remus
carina's 2k celebration
✶・•・✦・•・✶・✶・•・✦・•・✶
cw: kind of drugs but it's mostly magical, systemic injustice, wizarding war without casualties
remus who can't get a stable job seemingly anywhere in the wizarding world because he's a registered lycanthrope
despite the fact that he essentially helped save the entire wizarding world with the rest of his friends – most of which were offered honorary positions in the ministry for their efforts
not remus
he was dirt poor, burnt out and pessimistic about life and institutions
james and sirius tried to various extents to help support him financially, but he would not accept it unless he physically had to
he lived with sirius without paying rent but tried his best not to think about it – especially because after the war he couldn't really stand being away from his friends
still:
"i'm not your charity case, prongs, you have a kid to look after"
"i don't want you to use me to pay off your sins sirius"
"i can take care of myself"
i think he would angrily say "fuck this shit" for a while and work in a muggle bookshop in london while
and maybe he would even enjoy the reprieve
but he would quickly feel isolated
in the wizarding world, he feels that he is not fully understood because he's a werewolf, but in the muggle world he has to even hide the fact that he's a wizard
he winds up applying to random jobs in wizarding london again, everything from shopkeeps and waitressing to pharmacies
throughout his life, remus has used a lot of different medications, ranging from potions to muggle medication to various ~herbs for pain relief
and at hogwarts he always made sure he did as well as physically possible to "make up" for being otherwise highly unemployable
he particularly excelled in DADA, potions and herbology, for obvious reasons
at some point when struggling to pay for the super overprized ingredients he need for the next full moon at an official apothecary that had rejected his application weeks prior, i think a bulb would go off in his head
he would more or less run home to sirius and they would have this conversation:
"if i were to start a business, would you sponsor me?"
"i've been trying to shove money down your throat for years moons, you already know this"
"would you be willing to get your money dirty?"
".... go on"
remus pitches this: he opens a "chocolate store" on the outskirts of diagon alley to serve as a front for him dealing various magical and non-magical herbs, potions, medication, drugs. etc.
everything and anything that unconventional wix could need to get through life that's hard to access
whether that be other werewolves, other "half-breeds", those with permanent magical injuries/conditions that the ministry ignores, those with ptsd from the war, etc.
you need to show registrations or prescriptions to get most lycanthropy potions, pain remedies, etc. which makes it hard to get for anyone flying under the radar or too poor for medical documents
not with remus – anyone can come in and ask for anything
thus, a form of dealership
his intentions are 1) be anti-establishment and say f u to the minister 2) supply the people with what they need without the hellish and discriminatory bureaucracy of the ministry
(unless kingsley becomes the minister in this au, in which he would begin working on the problems from the inside while turning a blind eye to remus' endeavors)
i think remus would also have a designated section for helping treat addiction of different sorts
his pitch stretched on for forever but sirius was with him from essentially his first word
"hold up, i need to rope james into this"
james immediately suggests that the front store should be called "moony's delights"
"... i'll think about it"
the front store would serve as a regular chocolate shop to the average bypasser, so there would often be children stopping by getting chocolate
remus would sell regular chocolate – that i imagine marylily help bring to life – to regular customers
but his real services were to the non-regular wix, for which he's got stacks on stacks of alternative chocolates, in addition to his shelves upon shelves of ingredients and potions
i imagine remus fetches most of the ingredients and brews most of the potions himself, utilising all his expertise
for once, he allows his friends to join in because in his mind they're not just helping him but also the greater good
lily becomes his partner who helps with both chocolates and potions
molly prewett/weasley grows some of the herbs lol
sirius and james supply both any legal patents they need to put down to get a shop and then they preemptively set up a team of top notch lawyers for protection
by the time remus gets around to this, one of the best educated lawyers is their dearest order-member emmeline vance who is more than happy to help out
i believe frank longbottom could be her apprentice
the order of the phoenix remained close friends and kept an "it takes a village" mentality to everything, whether that be getting friends back on their feet or raising the little baby phoenixs
(because they fought way too hard to keep this village to not utilise it to its fullest extent)
it takes a while to get the shop up and running efficiently, of course
at first it's something you need to have heard about from a friend, but as it surges in popularity, more and more wix know where they need to go if they need a fix of any kind
within the "underworld" of the wizarding society, i believe word spread the fastest
and perhaps the knowledge that "moony's delights" sold potions and herbs specifically for various "half breeds" may be contained to just this underworld
while more everyday wix know that they can get general pain relief or help chilling the fuck out
there are so many reader insert ideas i have within this au that could be requested
customer!reader would be fun, but so would business partner!reader who is brought in by lily or emmeline and eventually falls in love with remus
in general i think little punk remus lupin would 100% open a semi-secret dealership while the marauders and co protect him

KINDERGARTEN 2024 SECRET SANTA SIGNUPS ARE NOW OPEN!
Tumblr media
Hello everyone! December is coming, so i’ve decided to host a Secret Santa Gift Exchange for the Kindergarten Fandom! 🎊🎉 @chantilly6761 will be helping in the event to assign everyone their gift recipient (because I also want to join and I feel it’s inappropriate if I literally go up to someone and go “hEyy you have to make a gift for me uwu” like what) So please look out for her DM’s!
MORE INFORMATION AND SIGNUP LINK UNDER THE CUT!
What is a Secret Santa?
It’s basically a gift exchange, where lots of people join and each are assigned a recipient to get a gift for. But they must not tell anyone else, that’s why it’s called a Secret Santa! It makes for a fun surprise when you get your gift! Traditionally, it’s done in real life where people can buy or make gifts for their recipient, but since this is online, we’ll be gifting art, writing, or other types of media? instead! Creations you can easily gift online!
When do signups last? The period of time we get to make our gift? When do we start gifting?
Signups : Starts at 27th October, 2:50 PM EST —> Ends at 2nd November, 11:59 AM EST
Secret Santa Assignments : Around 2nd November, 12:00 PM EST. Expect DM’s from @chantilly6761 , not me!
Drop Out Period : You have until 20th November to drop out if you change your mind. Don’t expect me to be more understanding if you attempt to drop out after that.
Check-in Progress : On 30th November and 22nd December.
Gift Posting Time! : From 28th December, 12:00 AM EST —> To 1st January 2025, 12:00 AM EST
Basically, you’ll have time from 3rd of November till the 28th of December to make your gift! That’s almost two months!
Any rules?
Keep your assignment a secret, this is crucial! That’s what puts the secret in Secret Santa after all!
It’s basic decency to provide a gift with content your recipient specifically asked for <3 just saying
No using Picrews or Gacha to make a gift. Please put in the effort.
No NSFW, sexualization of the characters, pedoph*lia, or inc*st AT ALL.
When specifying what you want for your gifts, it absolutely has to be Kindergarten related! Sorry! This is a Kindergarten event after all. (Yes, you can ask for content of your Kindergarten OC’s!)
Please only ask to switch recipients if you are extremely uncomfortable with the request/recipient. Asking to switch is not something to exploit.
Do NOT fill out joke forms. Please only fill in all your official information for the event. Remember you can only send 1 form.
When the time comes, tag your gift with #kg2024secretsanta !
I trust that everyone will remain courteous and respectful for the event.
What can I make for my recipient?
Art and writing are the two main mediums you can use in this event. If you have any other specific medium you want to use, you’ll have to ask me and/or your recipient!
How will I be able to ask my recipient questions if they’re not supposed to know their Secret Santa?
You can ask @chantilly6761 to help deliver the message!
WHERE’S DO I SIGN UP WHERE’S THE REGISTRATION LINK
chill bro it’s right here
Thank you for reading, I hope you’ll participate! You can ask me if you have any questions <3

Chapter 1: A Game of Wits
Part 1: Their first meeting in the Hearts game, where they begin to observe and test each other.
Masterlist: The King's Decree
Tumblr media
Chishiya didn’t believe in fate.
Coincidences? Sure. Predictable patterns? Absolutely. But fate was just an excuse people used when they didn’t want to admit that their lives were ruled by probabilities, not destiny.
And yet, when he stepped into the game arena that night, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something unexpected was about to happen.
The building was a massive, abandoned shopping mall—dark, silent, except for the flickering emergency lights casting eerie shadows along the cracked tile floors. Players gathered near the registration screen, their faces a mix of fear, caution, and empty resignation.
Chishiya leaned against a support column, taking in the group.
Then, his gaze landed on her.
She wasn’t trembling like the others. If anything, she looked bored—arms crossed, weight shifted onto one hip, eyes scanning the crowd with quiet calculation. Most players wore their emotions like a mask slipping off their faces, but not her.
Interesting.
Before he could make any further observations, the monitors above them flickered to life, displaying the game details.
Game: "The King's Decree"
Difficulty: Five of Hearts
A soft murmur ran through the crowd. Hearts games were the worst. Chishiya barely reacted, already turning his attention back to the girl. If she was as cunning as she seemed, she wouldn’t panic over this, either.
He smirked. This could be entertaining.
----
Y/N felt his gaze before she saw him.
A subtle weight, an awareness creeping up her spine. She turned her head slightly, and there he was—leaning casually against a column, wearing that infuriatingly smug expression. White hoodie, silver hair, sharp eyes that held the kind of amusement most people in the Borderland had lost long ago.
She didn’t trust him.
Which meant she liked him already.
The game details loaded. A five of Hearts. That meant manipulation, deceit, emotional warfare. People would cry. People would turn on each other. And someone—probably more than one—wouldn’t make it out alive.
The instructions came next.
RULES:
1. A "King" has already been chosen among the players.
2. Every round, the King issues a decree that all players must follow.
3. If a player disobeys, they die.
4. The goal: Find the King and eliminate them before time runs out.
Y/N glanced around, watching as panic set in. People were already whispering, throwing suspicious looks at each other. She exhaled slowly, schooling her expression into something neutral.
She wasn’t afraid of Hearts games. She knew how people worked—what drove them, what broke them. And she could play along until she got what she wanted.
Then, movement caught her eye.
The smug-looking guy was still watching her. But now, he was smirking.
Challenge accepted.
----
Chishiya thrived in games like these.
Hearts games weren’t about brute strength or physical endurance—they were about control. About watching people unravel, forcing them to make choices that revealed their true nature. And The King’s Decree was no different.
The group shifted uneasily as the announcement ended. Some players immediately tried to shrink into the background, while others stood rigid, scanning the faces around them with suspicion. A few muttered under their breath, already forming alliances they’d probably betray within minutes.
Chishiya let his gaze drift back to her.
Unlike the rest, she wasn’t panicking. If anything, she looked... curious. Calculating. Like she was already two steps ahead of everyone else.
Interesting.
Then, the speakers crackled again.
The first decree has been issued:
"All players must link arms with someone within the next 30 seconds. Anyone left alone will be eliminated."
Panic set in.
People turned to each other in frantic desperation, some begging, others grabbing the nearest person without hesitation. Chishiya, however, remained perfectly still, watching as chaos unfolded.
He had no intention of scrambling for a partner. Someone would come to him—they always did. People gravitated toward perceived safety, and his unreadable demeanor had a way of making people believe he knew what he was doing.
But before anyone else could reach him, she did.
Y/N appeared at his side in an instant, her hand gripping his wrist in an unspoken command before looping their arms together. The motion was seamless, as if they’d done it a hundred times before.
Chishiya blinked, then smirked. So, she’s fast.
“Figured I’d take my chances with you,” she murmured, eyes still scanning the room. “You don’t look like the type to panic.”
“And you don’t look like the type to rely on anyone,” he countered smoothly.
Her lips curved—not quite a smile, but something close. “Maybe I just pick my battles wisely.”
Interesting indeed.
The countdown ended. A deafening beep rang through the air, followed by the unmistakable sound of a body hitting the ground.
A man near the entrance had hesitated too long. He stood alone—wide-eyed, trembling—before his collar blinked red. A second later, his body crumpled.
Dead.
The room went eerily silent.
---
Y/N barely flinched as the first casualty hit the ground. She’d seen worse.
What mattered now was that she wasn’t next.
Her grip on Chishiya’s arm remained firm, though she could feel his gaze on her, assessing. He was unreadable—relaxed, unbothered, as if this was just another passing moment rather than a game designed to tear people apart.
Good. That meant he wasn’t reckless.
The monitor flickered again.
The next decree will be issued in 60 seconds.
One minute. Not much time to gather information, but enough to make the right moves.
She turned her attention to the group. Fear was setting in quickly—whispered suspicions, darting glances, alliances forming in desperation. She didn’t trust any of them.
But she could use them.
“What do you think?” Chishiya’s voice was smooth, casual, but there was something unreadable beneath the surface. “Got any guesses on the King?”
She tilted her head slightly. “Why? Hoping I’ll tell you so you can use it to your advantage?”
His smirk widened just a fraction. “I like to be informed.”
She exhaled a quiet laugh. Amusing.
“I don’t know who the King is,” she admitted. “But I do know one thing—”
She nodded toward a man in the corner, a nervous-looking guy clutching his own arm so tightly his knuckles were white. He hadn’t spoken once, hadn’t moved beyond what was necessary.
“He knew the first decree was coming,” she continued, voice low. “Didn’t scramble for a partner. Didn’t hesitate, either. Like he was waiting.”
Chishiya followed her gaze, eyes narrowing slightly. “You think he’s the King?”
“I think he knows something.”
Chishiya hummed, as if filing the information away. Then, his eyes flicked back to her.
“Not bad,” he murmured. “You might actually be useful.”
Y/N arched a brow. “Funny. I was thinking the same thing about you.”
Another crackle of static interrupted them.
The next decree has been issued:
"All players must vote for someone to be eliminated within the next two minutes. The person with the most votes dies."
Silence.
Then, the panic set in again.
Y/N could already see it happening—the fear turning to paranoia, the group unraveling, people scrambling to shift blame before it could land on them.
She tightened her grip on Chishiya’s arm and smirked.
“Let’s see how good you really are.”

Tournament Registration
If you'd like your character to be involved in the tournament, please register them below.
The Categories:
Melee (on foot)
Melee (on horseback)
Archery
Jousting
And then the final competition shall be a ~teamed melee~, where all of the competitors are divided into teams (2, 3, or 4 depending on the number of participants) and face off against each other.
When registering, please indicate the skill level of your competitor. I will be drawing names from a hat to determine the winners, but the more skilled your character, the higher their odds.
SKILL LEVELS:
LEVEL 0 - Has never done this before / is more a harm to themselves than anyone else (Cormac level ;D)
LEVEL 1 - Beginner / only vaguely knows what they are doing
LEVEL 2 - Below Average / has had practice and instruction, but still learning to master the basics
LEVEL 3 - Average / knows their way around, has had a few years of experience and can hold their own, but certainly not an expert
LEVEL 4 - Above Average / knows what they are doing and has a few tricks up their sleeve to put them ahead of the competition
LEVEL 5 - Master / an expert in their field! you don't want to mess with them!
I will also be drawing names to determine the match-up orders, as well as the division of the teams for the final melee match. Please indicate a skill level for each category (even if your character is not participating in that category), for I'll use an average of the four numbers to determine their ~odds~ for the team melee.
Once all of the ~registrations~ have been received, I will start posting the results. None of the results will be set in stone, because I want us to be able to do whatever is best plot wise, but I think it will give us a starting point, anyway.
REGISTRATION FORM:
Name:
Participating Categories:
Skill Levels in the Following -- Melee (on foot): Level # Melee (on horseback): Level # Archery: Level # Jousting: Level #
REWARDS:
The winners from each category will receive 300,000 crowns for their victories. The runner-ups will receive 30,000 crowns. There is the opportunity to win 1.5 million crowns if you were to win each event. (For our purposes, 1 crown is roughly equal to the US dollar).

!! Registration is open !!
Dear Fic Writers,
Registration for the European Fic Writers' Retreat is open!
Tumblr media
(All info about the retreat can be found in this post. PLEASE READ THAT FIRST.)
If you have definitively decided you want to attend the Fic Writers' Retreat in Germany 7-10 August 2025 (Eifel region), there are two steps you need to take.
Step 1: fill in this final registration form. Some of the questions are the same as in the previous form where you could show interest (to stay updated). But because some people might have skipped that step, I am asking everyone to answer some of the same questions again. (It won't take long, I promise.)
Step 2: After receiving your registration form, I will wait until 15 May to see how many people have registered (just to make sure there are enough applicants to let the retreat actually take place). Then I will send you an email with the payment details. Your registration is not final until I have received your payment of the deposit, which is 200 euros.
Important: the price of 360 euros per person that I indicated earlier is the price of the rent of the holiday house and total food costs divided by 8. In the event that fewer than 7 people register, the price per person will naturally go up by around 40-90 euros. Please indicate on the form if you would be willing to pay this higher amount or would rather cancel in this case. (This is why I will wait until 15 May before I charge people.) But judging by the enthusiasm so far, I'm not really expecting this to happen. :)
Conversely, if more than 7 people register (myself being number 8), the later applicants will only be able to attend if enough people are willing to share rooms. (But again, I don't foresee many problems here, based on the first survey.) If there are more than 8 participants, sharing a room will lower the price for those who share.
The registration deadline is 31 May. However, space will be allocated on a first-come, first served basis (based on date of payment received), so make sure you register as soon as you're sure!
There is room for a maximum of 16 people, if enough people are willing to share rooms. Personally I'm expecting probably around 10 people in total.
If at least 8 people apply (myself included), the retreat will definitely take place! (With 1 or 2 fewer applicants, it will only take place if everyone agrees to pay a bit more.)

Sorry for the long and complicated message, but it turns out to be quite complex logistics-wise when you can't be sure how many people will apply until they do! 😅 And seeing as I'm paying all of the rent in advance myself, I want to be as clear as possible and avoid disappointment on all sides.
But I really am quite confident that enough people will apply so as to be able to let the retreat really take place, and I think it's going to be great! 😀
If you have any questions, just send a chat message!
By the way, please make sure you register for the right retreat, as there is one taking place in Canada at the exact same dates! For information on the CANADIAN RETREAT (which inspired this one!!), click here:
