You can have a story where Off-Brand Superman turns out to be Secretly Evil & Corrupt, because it makes sense and works as a trope-subversion. Power Corrupts, reputations can be misleading, etc.
You cannot have a story where Off-Brand Spider-Man turns out to be Secretly Evil, because Spider-Man already has Evil Vibes that are off the charts!
He’s named after a famously creepy & predatory arachnid! His mask covers his entire face! Newspapers yell about how menacing & evil he is! He has Mad-Scientist skills, and has worked or interned with at least three different Evil Mad Scientists in his time!
Spider-Man is a genre-subversion unto himself, and the Off-Brand/Parody versions can ONLY get it right if they highlight at exaggerate his role as a Hero with Extremely Evil & Villainous vibes!

Shen Qingqiu: Of course any reasonable relationship will start with a few “no”s, but like, anyone who really wants you will just ignore that.
Luo Binghe, a person who really wants him but also knows about consent: listens when Shen Qingqiu tells him that he doesn’t want to see lbh, he doesn’t want to share a bed, he doesn’t want to engage in a kink, etc.

someone. appears to have uploaded the entireity of the terror to youtube?
if you want to bully people into watching it your time is now, I guess?
Hot diggetty pig!
Everyone watch this or I'll come to your house and make slightly hurtful remarks about your storage solutions. But I won't be held responsible for any subsequent obsessions relating to Men Suffering on Boats. It's a life-changing series and you'll just have to deal with the consequences of that yourselves.

things monkey man does that are far more interesting than the “violent revenge good actually” take ive been seeing a lot of
constructed facsimile of godhood w the trappings of power glamour wealth etc used for evil vs real potential of godliness/divine in the average person with no power or trappings other than the true beauty found in nature and human connection
wisdom and healing found in connection with diverse peoples vs trauma and evil found in manipulated division of peoples
rage against injustice as a form of worship
leveraging a very specific genre of action movie (one man kills all bad guys in his path) to explore these ideas

I like it when the fandom engages with Chuuya drinking problematically or Akutagawa smoking despite his lung disease or Fyodor indulging his gambling addiction.
Asagiri can't explore the same, there's a censorship regime in Japan for manga aimed at certain ages. But even if he doesn't care to, fan works should be transformative and exploratory; and fan works that do so while engaging with the source material and its themes like humanity and contradiction and culpability are even more golden for doing so.
The urge to lacquer fiction in performative didactism and aversion to moral turpitude is self cannibalizing.

i think the discussion we're having about horror getting sanitized to the point where it's difficult to put certain themes in media without being accused of immorality is important but im not sure i agree on the fact that dark themes belong only in that genre and can be developed only there

John Everett Millais (1829-1896) "The North-West Passage" (1874) Oil on canvas Pre-Raphaelite Located in the Tate Britain, London, England The painting depicts an elderly sailor sitting at a desk, with his daughter seated in a stool beside him. He stares out at the viewer, while she reads from a log-book. On the desk is a large chart depicting complex passageways between incompletely charted islands.
Millais exhibited the painting with the subtitle "It might be done and England should do it", a line imagined to be spoken by the aged sailor. The title and subtitle refer to the repeated failure of British expeditions to find the Northwest Passage, a navigable passageway around the north of the American continent. These expeditions "became synonymous with failure, adversity and death, with men and ships battling against hopeless odds in a frozen wilderness." The search for the northwest passage had been undertaken repeatedly since the voyages of Henry Hudson in the early 17th century. The most significant attempt was the 1845 expedition led by John Franklin, which had disappeared, apparently without trace. Subsequent expeditions had found evidence that Franklin's two ships had become stuck in ice, and that the crews had died over a number of years from various causes, some having made unsuccessful attempts to escape across the ice. These later expeditions were also unable to navigate a route between Canada and the Arctic. Millais had the idea for the painting when a new expedition to explore the passage, the British Arctic Expedition led by George Nares, was being prepared.

I wish people invested themselves more in new bands like they do with 80s and 90s bands. I understand the appeal of old bands but there is amazing music being released nowadays and supporting those bands, buying merch, interacting with them and talking about them make a big difference in keeping the scene alive.
And especially withing the goth scene, there is sooo many bands releasing music from coldwave to darkwave, from goth-rock to synthpop, from EBM to industrial. It's soooo diverse and alive and full of good surprises.
