You've mentioned food enjoyed by young children, so let's go the opposite route; what are some foods from across Tamriel that are infamous for being Old People Food?
Ah, of course. There's always that food that inexplicably only old people like. I'm never here to knock anyone's favourite foods though, so here's a showcase of some of Tamriel's dishes most beloved by its aged population.
Altmer
Heron liver pâté is, in my opinion, the least palatable Altmeri food there is. Mushy yet inexplicably chewy, this pâté has a distinctly muddy smell and texture that old Mer seem to love. If you've still got teeth, it's common to dip grissini and crudités into the pâté, but if not, the pet food texture is fine to eat with a spoon.
Argonians
Older Argonians love their papaya! It's good for the health, and...bowels, especially? This mighty fruit is often pounded into a pulp with fresh turmeric root and scuttlebloom nectar, a bit like a very thick juice, and the mixture is happily inhaled by the geriatrics throughout Black Marsh. I love papaya, but not so much when it's served this way.
Bosmer
Timber mammoth milk soup is very much an old Mer dish in Valenwood. Simply put, it's just a bunch of meaty ingredients boiled until they fall apart in a soup base made from salty timber mammoth milk. The dish is definitely an acquired taste, from the slightly slimy yet frothy texture to the practically liquid meat bits.
Bretons
Master confectioners in High Rock are always in the business of pumping out sweets that almost nobody eats, bar the older population. Whether it's violet sweets, liquorice drops, musk sticks, or butter mints, for some reason, every Breton over the age of 60 develops an inexplicable craving for these sweets. I think I'll stick to lemon sherbets, personally.
Dunmer
I know that I talk about saltrice porridge a lot, but saltrice congee infused with ginseng and gingko nuts are right up there in terms of ancient Dunmer food. Add some pulled trama root (boiled until soft), pickled comberries, and ash-cured kwama egg, and you have a strongly herbal-scented meal with the texture of snot.
Imperials
While not as old people-y as most other dishes on this list, classic dishes, like my Emperor's Venison Fricassee, are hardly considered to be exciting food on the Cyrodiilic gastronomy scene. The humble fricassee is a palatable, if slightly boring dish with a stew-like texture, but doesn't contain any particularly strong flavours. Said to be the ultimate old-person dish in Cyrodiil.
Khajiit
Age isn't going to stop any Khajiit from imbibing moon sugar, but the way it's served is slightly different. Peanut soup, which is literally just a hot slurry made from boiled peanuts, is a nutritious dish often served for dessert. However, the taste is, at best, horrifically boring, and the only way to fix that is with lots of moon sugar. The end result is something akin to eating runny peanut butter, to which I can only politely say 'no thanks, Clan Mother'.
Nords
Just because we honour the older members of our communities in Skyrim doesn't mean that we're above making jokes about what they eat. If you think pickled fish is bad, try the trout that's been fermented in a barrel for a few months, then cut into slices and served atop flatbread with beets and sour cream. It sounds worse than it is, but this is the sort of food that makes me flash back to Granny Matilda's cottage when I was a child.
Orcs
The fact of the matter is that many Orcs don't live to see old age as an adversary, but those who do develop some curious dietary habits. Steamed potato pudding with wrathberry raisins is definitely one of them- a pungent dessert that's absolutely nobody's favourite besides probably the stronghold elders. It's basically a regular steamed pudding made from potato flour and densely studded with wrathberry raisins, something like a New Life pudding. Very filling, kind of bland, and perfect for the geriatric Orsimer in your life.
Redguards
A mild Alik'r curry made with snake eggs and okra would be my pick when it comes to describing the favoured food of elderly Redguards. Whole boiled snake eggs and slices of okra float in a thin goat's milk-based curry, which is served with a side of cous cous or rice. It's simple food, but so bland and boring you'd hardly recognise it as Redguard cuisine.

FGHJHDD MAN. Gonna be SO lame right now, I pretty much love ALL vegetables, except canned spinach fgjhd. I do have hot takes tho. Artichokes in spinach artichoke dip? Sexy delicious amazing showstopping. I don’t like them outside of it and think they’re too much fuckin work. I love hearts of palm bc they’re tasty, but also bc I think the idea of killing a tree to harvest them is funny. People who don’t like root veg like beets Abs rutabagas are Coward Assholes. Onions are good on everything. Celery is fibery water bullshit and if my grandma wasn’t in hell for a bunch of other shit, she’d be in hell for putting it in her chicken alfredo. Iceberg lettuce is still enjoyable even if it’s nutritionally nothing. Corn cob jelly is good actually, esp on biscuits. Carrots can’t be too mushy.
Best vegetable: potato, for versatility. Avacado for destroying the millennial housing market.
Worst vegetable: celery, for granny crimes. Canned spinach for tasting horrid.

My Last Grocery Store Haul (Gut-Health Focused, Winter Seasonal & Whole Food Plant Based) 🥕🍏🍊🥬
I love eating a wide variety of foods. It just makes life that more exciting. You don't realize the monotony you were subjecting yourself to until you change. I never made the extra effort to make sure I specifically had winter-specific produce in my diet. I usually would just get bored with food in winter.....no more of that!

Obligatory Turkey Day Food Items
Forgot to photograph the brussel sprouts, glazed carrots, mashed potatoes, and gravy but it was all super yum.
Spatchcocked turkey dry brined for three days with salt, allspice, pepper, and orange zest, slathered in sage infused browned butter prior to roasting, then glazed with apricot preserves mixed with rosemary 30 min before it was pulled.
And a winter salad with chopped kale, radicchio, arugula, farro, roasted red and golden beets, roasted grapes, roasted shallots, roasted acorn squash, sliced Granny Smith apple, goat cheese, pomegranate seeds, hazelnuts, parsley, and fried sage. Dressing of maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, bacon fat, and thyme. You can’t see half of those things because this salad had strata by the time I was done layering everything on there.

THE FLIM FLAM BROTHERS
First Appearance: Green Lantern Apple Bloom (June 7, 2021)
Dimension: GLAB Universe
Allegiance: Civilian
Flim and Flam are two twin unicorns with your basic upbringing. While magically they were average, they were very gifted intellectually. But they had two big flaws: they were lazy and impatient. Rather than use their intelligence for long term gain, they use it to try to make as much money as they can. Thus was the case with their Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000. On paper it was a great idea but execution was where it failed.
Across Equestria, those who took the deal saw a better profit in the short term. But over time they couldn’t afford to keep going that way, so the Flim Flam Brothers left to find another easy mark as the poor farmers struggled to try to recoup their losses. This changed when they came into Sweet Apple Acres. Unlike the other Farms, the Apples were reluctant to accept so a contest was made.
They thought they had it in the bag until the Green Lantern used her abilities to speed up their side. Desperate, they speed up the machine and turn off quality control to keep up. In the end, it was a tie and due to their desperation a taste test gave victory to the Apple Family. They left Ponyville seeing their current plans failing. After encountering Silver Shill and his desperation to sell his beet leaves, the Flim Flam Brothers came up with a new plan.
Mixing the Beet Leaves with Apple Juice, they created a Miracle Tonic. While it has long term effects that are beneficial, they’re selling it as a cure all potion. And with Silver Shill acting as someone who was quickly healed from it, it began to sell excellently. Even Applejack was unable to think of the negatives of this tonic. Until she saw Granny Smith almost kill herself thinking she can do an act that she did as a young filly.
The Flim Flam abandoned the idea once more, though the Apples picked it back up and rebranded it as a new drink. They continued to do their various acts, with diminishing returns until they were discovered by Gladmane. He saw the potential they have together but saw the benefits of them working underneath him if he can get them to fight. And he’s very good at making tight pairs fight. They would probably continue fighting until Fluttershy convinced Applejack to help them.
With Gladmane overthrown, they now own his casinos. While that is a good source of money, it's just not enough for them so they still continue to find ways to make more. If it isn’t a Rival Friendship School, it's a shoddy product to sell to customers looking for the perfect gift. They may not want to rule all of Equestria or even a Tri-State Area, but these two are willing to do almost anything to get a quick buck.

This beautiful Greek Super Salad is packed with amazing fresh and boiled vegetables, fruits and nuts and has a lush vinaigrette sauce. It's filled with so many complimenting flavors and nutrients to satisfy everybody.
I have prepared it to accompany my traditional dinner of fried salted cod and Garlic Sauce (aka Bakaliaros Skordalia) for March 25th, Greece's Independence Day. However, it can be prepared all year round to accompany any kind of meat, chicken or fish dishes.
It resembles somewhat the renowned Politiki Salad, but with beetroots as the main ingredient.
Let me show you how to prepare it.
Suitable for vegans and fasting.
 
INGREDIENTS
Ingredients for the vinaigrette sauce:
·      1/4 cup / 60 ml / 4 tbsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
·      30 ml / 2 tbsp. Balsamic Vinegar
·      1 small Garlic Clove
·      Freshly Ground Salt and Pepper

Ingredients for the Salad:
·      250 gr. / 9 oz boiled Beetroots, cut in strips
·      200 gr. / 7 oz Red Cabbage (or white or combo), finely shredded
·      200 gr. / 7 oz Tomatoes, finely chopped
·      1-2 Spring Onions, finely chopped
·      2 tbsp. Celery leaves, finely chopped
·      60 gr. / 2.1 oz / less than 1/2 cup Walnuts, coarsely chopped
·      ½ Green Apple, in cubes (Granny Smith, or other with sour taste)
·      Optional: Feta cheese, crumbled (or vegan substitute)

METHOD:       
A.    Prepare the vinaigrette ahead of time:
1.     If you have a bottle where you can make and mix the vinaigrette sauce (like me) that would be great. Otherwise, use a bowl with lid and a whisk.
2.     Pour the Olive oil in the bottle, adding also the balsamic vinegar.
3.     Add the garlic clove next, minced.
4.     Season with ground Salt and Pepper, to taste.
5.     Place the lid on top and shake the bottle to blend all ingredients very well. Reserve.
6.     Tip: Prepare the sauce earlier and store it in the fridge.
 
B.    Make the Salad:
7.     Place the beet strips and red shredded Cabbage in a large, deep Salad bowl.
8.     Add the chopped tomatoes, spring onions and celery leaves next.
9.     Mix the salad ingredients very well using your gloved hands.
TIP: Rub them and squeeze them to release the aromas and the juices from the vegetables!
10.  The Salad needs now time to set and chill, before adding the apple, walnuts and sauce.
11.  Cover it with plastic wrap and store in the fridge for at least 1h!
12.  Just before serving, peel the halved apple and cut it in cubes.
13.  Bring the salad from the fridge and add the chopped walnuts.
14.  Bring the bottle with sauce from the fridge, shake it once more and pour it on top of the Salad.
15.  With a large spoon, mix the salad to incorporate the sauce with the vegetables.
16.  Finish by adding the apple cubes (and crumbled feta if using) on top and toss to mix the salad once more.
17.  Ready to serve.

A custom across the country on March 25th, is to eat crispy, fried Cod fish with garlic sauce (Bakaliaros skordalia)!
This day is an exemption to the Great Lent rules, where no animals or animal products are not consumed. However, Greek Orthodox Church allows this exception for the celebration of the Annunciation Day!

Αυτή η πανέμορφη σούπερ σαλάτα είναι γεμάτη με εκπληκτικά φρέσκα και βραστά λαχανικά, φρούτα και ξηρούς καρπούς και μια πλούσια σάλτσα βινεγκρέτ. Είναι πλημμυρισμένη με τόσες πολλές γεύσεις και θρεπτικά συστατικά για να ικανοποιήσει όλους.
Την έχω ετοιμάσει για να συνοδεύσω το παραδοσιακό μου δείπνο με τηγανητό παστό μπακαλιάρο και σκορδαλιά για την 25η Μαρτίου. Ωστόσο, μπορεί να ετοιμαστεί όλο το χρόνο για να συνοδεύσει κάθε είδους κυρίως πιάτα με κρέας, κοτόπουλ�� ή ψάρι.
Μοιάζει κάπως με τη φημισμένη Πολίτικη σαλάτα, αλλά με κύριο συστατικό τα παντζάρια.
Ελάτε να σας δείξω πώς να την ετοιμάσετε κι εσείς.
Κατάλληλη για βίγκαν και νηστεία.
 
ΥΛΙΚΑ
Υλικά για τη σάλτσα βινεγκρέτ:
• 1/4 φλ. / 60 ml / 4 κ.σ. Έξτρα παρθένο Ελαιόλαδο
• 30 ml / 2 κ.σ. Βαλσάμικο Ξύδι
• 1 μικρή Σκελίδα Σκόρδο
• Φρεσκοτριμμένο αλάτι και πιπέρι

Υλικά για τη σαλάτα:
• 250 γρ. / 9 oz βραστά Παντζάρια, κομμένα σε λεπτές λωρίδες
• 200 γρ. / 7 oz κόκκινο Λάχανο (ή λευκό ή συνδυασμός), ψιλοτριμμένο
• 200 γρ. / 7 oz Ντομάτες, ψιλοκομμένες
• 1-2 φρέσκα Κρεμμυδάκια, ψιλοκομμένα
• 2 κ.σ. Φύλλα Σέλινο, ψιλοκομμένα
• 60 γρ. / 2,1 oz / λιγότερο από 1/2 φλ. Καρύδια, χοντροκομμένα
• ½ Πράσινο Μήλο, σε καρεδάκια (Granny Smith, ή άλλο με κάπως ξινή γεύση)
• Προαιρετικά: τυρί Φέτα, θρυμματισμένη (ή βίγκαν υποκατάστατο)

ΜΕΘΟΔΟΣ:
Α. Ετοιμάστε τη βινεγκρέτ από πριν:
1. Αν έχετε ένα μπουκάλι όπου μπορείτε να φτιάξετε και να ανακατέψετε τη σάλτσα βινεγκρέτ (όπως εγώ) θα ήταν πιο εύκολο. Διαφορετικά, χρησιμοποιήστε ένα μπολ με καπάκι και ένα σύρμα.
2. Ρίξτε το ελαιόλαδο στο μπουκάλι, προσθέτοντας και το βαλσάμικο ξύδι.
3. Προσθέστε στη συνέχεια τη σκελίδα σκόρδο, λιωμένη.
4. Αλατοπιπερώστε, κατά βούληση.
5. Τοποθετήστε το καπάκι από πάνω και ανακινήστε το μπουκάλι για να αναμειχθούν πολύ καλά όλα τα υλικά. Βάλτε στην άκρη.
6. Συμβουλή: Ετοιμάστε τη σάλτσα νωρίτερα και φυλάξτε τη στο ψυγείο.
 
Β. Φτιάξτε τη σαλάτα:
7. Βάλτε τις λωρίδες παντζαριού και το κόκκινο λάχανο σε μια μεγάλη, βαθιά σαλατιέρα.
8. Προσθέστε στη συνέχεια τις ψιλοκομμένες ντομάτες, τα φρέσκα κρεμμυδάκια και το σέλινο.
9. Ανακατέψτε πολύ καλά τα υλικά της σαλάτας με τα χέρια σας, με γάντια.
ΣΥΜΒΟΥΛΗ: Τρίψτε και πιέστε τα λαχανικά για να βγάλουν τα αρώματα και τους χυμούς τους!
10. Η σαλάτα χρειάζεται τώρα χρόνο για να δέσει και να κρυώσει, πριν προσθέσετε το μήλο, τα καρύδια και τη σάλτσα.
11. Καλύψτε τη με πλαστική μεμβράνη και φυλάξτε στο ψυγείο για τουλάχιστον 1 ώρα!
12. Λίγο πριν τη σερβίρετε, ξεφλουδίστε το μισό μήλο και κόψτε σε καρεδάκια.
13. Βγάλτε τη σαλάτα από το ψυγείο και προσθέστε της τα καρύδια.
14. Βγάλτε το μπουκάλι με τη σάλτσα από το ψυγείο, ανακινήστε άλλη μια φορά και περιχύστε πάνω από τη Σαλάτα.
15. Με ένα μεγάλο κουτάλι ανακατέψτε τη σαλάτα ώστε η σάλτσα να καλύψει όλα τα λαχανικά.
16. Τελειώστε προσθέτοντας από πάνω τα καρεδάκια μήλου (και τη τριμμένη φέτα αν χρησιμοποιήσετε) και ανακατέψτε τη σαλάτα για άλλη μια φορά.
17. Έτοιμη για σερβίρισμα.

Σερβιρισμένη εδώ με τηγανητό, αφράτο παστό μπακαλιάρο, σκορδαλιά και ούζο, αυτή η σαλάτα έχει τη φρεσκάδα και τη γλυκύτητα που χρειάζεται για να φέρει αντίθεση με τις πικάντικες γεύσεις των άλλων πιάτων, συνοδεύοντας τα άψογα.

Η ημέρα αυτή αποτελεί εξαίρεση από τους κανόνες της Μεγάλης Σαρακοστής, όπου δεν καταναλώνονται ζώα ή ζωικά προϊόντα. Ωστόσο, η Ελληνική Ορθόδοξη Εκκλησία επιτρέπει αυτή την εξαίρεση για τον εορτασμό της ημέρας του Ευαγγελισμού!

6 beets, trimmed and scrubbed
8 cups vegetable or chicken broth
2 cups apple juice
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, or to taste (from 1 large lemon)
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Crème fraîche, for garnish, optional
Preparation
Step 1
1. Place the beets in a large, heavy pot and cover with the broth and juice. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer, partially covered, until tender, about 45 minutes. Transfer the beets to a bowl with a slotted spoon. When cool enough to handle, slip off the skins and cut the beets into pieces.
Step 2
2. Strain broth through a fine sieve lined with two paper towels and return it to the pot.
Step 3
3. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium- low heat. Add the apples and sauté until just caramelized, about 10 to 15 minutes.
Step 4
4. Purée the cooked beets and sautéed apples together in batches in a food processor, adding some broth through the feed tube. Return the purée to the pot and combine with the broth. Stir in the lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Pass the soup through a strainer, if desired.
Step 5
5. Serve the soup hot or cold, dolloped with crème fraîche if desired.
