Guided visualization: outside at the beach
Because almost everyone has a beach or had a beach skit while in their wonderland. I want to make this one more accessible to beginners, so the story is pretty simple and only focuses on describing a handful of things.
You are standing on a beach near the water, facing the ocean. It's a warm sunny day, with only a handful of small, streak-like clouds in the bright blue sky. There's a cool breeze that comes and goes, making a rushing sound as it moves and carrying the smell of salt along with it. The white, fine sand beneath you is warm, but it quickly starts to cool as your body and shadow block the sun's rays. The ocean is a vibrant blue-green that only sightly shimmers in the sunlight. The tides form slowly, grumbling and growing in height until suddenly, they gently spill over and dissipate. The extra water is then pulled back in, restarting the cycle.
You move forward, the sand effortlessly shifting about. The sand in front of you is hotter, but not hot enough to burn you. You take note to avoid the sparse twigs, leaves, and broken seashells along the way.
And now, you are close to the water's edge. The gray expanse is sprinkled with broken shells, plant matter, and grit from the sea. The wet sand is cool to the touch, and it feels like it dries a bit when your weight presses down on it. The wet sand is a bit sticky, which becomes more noticeable as it accumulates. As you move forward, the wet sand gets colder, heavier, and stickier.
By now, you have reached the ocean. You stand in a tiny pool of water, only for it to flee back into the sea. As you continue forwards, you get a slight chill each time the water touches a higher part of your body. The sand beneath you is loose and gritty, but it's hard to see when the foamy water from the tides block your view. As you go deeper, the gentle nudges and pulls from the tides grow stronger, to the point you have to reorient yourself after each tide.
And then, your view is blocked by a wall of water you were not-
Suddenly you hold your breath, and you shuffle about trying to either wade or swim back. Your head finally escapes the grip of the sea and you gasp for air. When you stand again, the water only comes halfway up your body. You grow cold as the breeze brushes by your wet head and upper body.
Looking forward, you can see the beach, and the gradient from blue to brown to white. The dry sand feels a little far away, but somehow, the whole beach feels small.
You turn and face the water. Another tide rolls in, with a soft grumble, until it spills over and dissipates. The spillover reaches your body, the white foam obscuring the wet sand underneath. Looking out, the vast sea stretches onwards, meeting the sky at the horizon.
It's still a really pretty day outside.

February 04, 2025 "Witchcraft, Visualisation and Aphantasia" by Kelly-Ann Maddox
You want to do guided meditations or visualisations, or astral travelling or hedge riding, but you cannot see images in your mind or have serious trouble with this? You may have aphantasia. But don't worry, there are alternatives for visualisation and Kelly-Ann talks about these in her video.

Ok, here’s what I do.
I’m going to put the description of my visualization meditation under a cut, because I’m fully aware it may disturb people with fairly reasonable triggers.
I don’t know if it will work for anyone who’s not me.
But I’ve been doing this for over two decades to relax my own body, even before my own heading-towards chronic arthritis-induced pain.
There’s a tl;dr at the end, if anyone needs it but still cares.
So, I’m going to give two versions of this, because again I’m sure the one I actually use would squick a lot of people out.
First, get comfortable - whatever that means for you.
For me, that’s raising the head of my adjustable bed, putting a body pillow under my thighs to keep my legs at a good bend, have pillows on either side of my torso to rest my arms, and my weighted blanket arranged so it doesn’t stress my feet/ankles.
Completely by accident, I am recreating a zero gravity chair. Anyway…

Get comfy. If it helps, get some relaxing music or nature sounds.
Now, imagine you’re a robot.
I’m serious, because the visualization is going to be disassembling yourself piece by piece, servicing each, then putting them away in a box.
I start with my feet.
I take off my toes, one by one. Carefully undoing the wiring and screws holding on the metal, gently testing the joints of each toe.
Oil what’s needed, maybe give a light polish, check that there’s nothing gritty clogging anything.
After each toe has been serviced, it goes into a foam box with holes perfectly sized for each.
Now, I service each foot. Then each ankle.
Long muscles tend to go faster, with more care on imagining opening up and servicing each mechanical joint, because as said above arthritis.
The spine is gently popping out each vertebrae, tailbone up, just free and unconstrained from the neighbors.
And, importantly, after each part is services it goes in its prepared box.
It’s not connected to me anymore.
Each mechanical part is all cared for and resting, away from me, turned off.
For me, this visualization leaves each serviced body part - deliciously numb. A faint, heavy white noise static, completely removed as I continue the body scan through my body.
Except, well, when I’m doing it I don’t bother with the entire “robot” distancing.
I’m imagining using fine metal skewers to literally stretch out the muscles laterally, teasing at the nerves until they go limp, popping the bones cleanly and safely apart.
It’s as bloodless and fantastical as the robot version, completely divorced from any biological reality.
And after servicing each loosened body part still goes into a box, away from the still functioning nervous system, away from the core of me.
If it’s my head or brain that needs loosening up, well, more skewers, literally opening up the unrealistic butter slime brain, letting air circulate.
If that fails, well, it’s time to start chopping up into fine cubes. Puree them down, make dough, knead it up like a pizza crust until everything feels homogeneous and diffused.
I’d do it to parts of my body, too, except none of them ever need the escalation like my brain.
Except the neck, that gets the rack treatment sometimes…
Anyway.
No clue if this could be helpful for anyone else.
But TL;DR:
Starting from your toes, pop off each body part in whatever fantasy works for you - robot, ball jointed doll, anatomically correct rag doll - and visualize “servicing” each part. Oil the joints, tighten the elastic, remove and replace the stuffing.
Once each part has been renewed, put it in a box to rest while you continue through the body scan.
Just focus on each body part in turn, imagining analogues to the complaint of each specific part, being completely mindful and present at however small or large a part of your body as you need to.
Then, move on. Each part has been dealt with, and requires no more focus.
Body awareness is absolute shit for chronic illness. “Become aware of your body. Pay attention to how your body feels” great now I’m noticing the bone aching soreness that is permeating my entire body, thanks for that. My mind was automatically filtering that out for my but I sure am aware of it now!
I need like the opposite. I need “leave your body entirely and forget it exists” meditation.
#meditation#mindfulness#body awareness#chronic pain#guided visualization#tw body horror#potentially#definitely for some people#it’s completely clinical and neutral to me#but i’m bizarre

Discover the Secret Garden of Your Mind
Understanding the Mind’s Secret Garden Did you know you have a secret garden? This garden isn’t located outside, but within your own mind. The concept of the mind as a secret garden is a metaphor. It invites us to explore the intricate and often hidden aspects of our inner world. Our thoughts, emotions, and memories are like seeds planted in this garden, shaping who we are and how we experience…

Energetic stress scan: guided visualization exercise to help you sleep 😴✨
Hi all! I usually don’t write my own metaphysical posts as I feel like I don’t have much to share from my own craft, despite being here for over five years now. However, this visualization technique is something my mother taught me long ago, as we’re both chronically ill and stressed individuals who have problems sleeping because of it. I’ve found it helps me fall asleep almost every time I’m desperate to, so I thought I’d share here :)
Method:
1. If you take any sleep aids (I used to perform this while waiting for mine to kick in), or use an essential oil diffuser to sleep, now is a good time to do that. If not that’s perfectly ok! This exercise is made to be performed with absolutely no materials besides your body, mind and energy.
2. Lie down in bed and get as comfortable as possible. For this exercise I like to lay straight like the gif above, but just get comfy and horizontal basically.
3. Close your eyes and envision a glowing, horizontal bar made of restorative, restful energy and light. Guide this bar above your head and slowly work its way down your body, working kind of like a hydraulic press, focusing on pushing the stress down with the bar. We will push all of this stress out of the body in a moment.
4. Notice where this bar “catches” or falters, slowing down the scan. This indicates there is extra stress being stored in this area of your body. For my mom, the bar often catches at her knees, where she has trouble with arthritis. Wherever it may be, when you feel this bar start to slow down and hit the stress sludge, focus intently on that one area, almost like you’re zooming in with a magnifying glass. At this point I like to imagine a ball of light coming from the bar encasing the problem area until it feels lighter and the bar is able to pass through once again.
5. Once this bar reaches your feet, imagine alllll the stress you had pent up in your body and soul flowing out from the soles of your feet.
That’s it! I hope this all made sense, and if you have any questions send me an ask. Sleep well!

subtle sensations
let’s tune into some subtle sensations. Notice whatever your attention goes and gently follow your attention as if on a leisurely aimless wander. I’m noticinga slight tingle in my feet, a slight tightness in my belly, the sounds of my son thumping his hand repeatedly on the couch cushion and the sight in my peripheral vision of his hand bouncing up and down. The vibrations of the couch as they ripple towards and through my body. A gentle smile on my face. Tingles in my fingers and feet. Tightness in my upper belly. A big breath and
Just notice where your attention wanders to sounds, sights, subtle body sensations, smells, tastes, thoughts, visions…. Whatever you notice in this journey, just appreciate it as if you are on a walk through nature. You don’t need to interact with any of the things you notice, but feel free to follow your curiosity if you do want to zoom your attention in on something a bit more to observe a sensation more closely. Notice what happens if you approach a sensation with curiosity and gentle attention. One thing I notice is that nothing ever is static, there is constant movement, flowing… every moment arising and moving on…
thanks for joining me!

Given the misinformation that's been going around and will be going around, thought this might be helpful to some people
For a lot of reasons, I'm very good at this/at searching, to the point where I have worked as a professional fact-checker for two different publishers. So, here goes:
My Article Fact-Checking Protocol
Thorough Version
Read the full article. Keep an eye out for emotionally loaded words, and all-or-nothing language
Keep an eye out or anything that sounds too good to be true, and in contrast, anything that sounds so awful it must be true
Run the website/source through the amazing Media Bias/Fact Check. They'll tell you about a publication's bias and history of accuracy
Go to the website's home page and read through the headlines. Look at what topics they cover/prioritize, sensationalist headlines, and whether they're framing anything in a way that feels odd/off to you
Do a search related to the topic. This can be keywords, a question, or even just copy-paste the article title (Recommended: use DuckDuckGo so the results don't change based on what Google thinks they can sell you)
If multiple highly credible sources that say the same thing pop up, and there's no major societal biases that might affect the coverage of the topic in those sources (e.g. anything related to the Israel-Palestine conflict/Palestinian genocide, no matter which side), then I'm done!
If there are major societal biases, or I can't get a consensus of sufficiently credible sources, then I do some combination of:
(1) search the topic again + the words "controversy" and/or "fake"
(2) search the opposite of the topic, or do some sort of other filtered search
(3) look up a sufficiently credible news outlet with the opposite point of view of my source, and see what they have to say
(4) if it's a big enough topic, start by looking up 2 of the top national papers and 1 major paper for your region (I usually do the ones in the US, because that's where I am In the US: the LA Times, the Washington Post, and the NY Times)
Adjust "news" to "relevant type of source, e.g. tech, environmental" as relevant for all of the above options
If no red flags come up, and it's a topic I understand enough to smell huge bullshit,
Then I'm usually done!
If there are red flags, or I actually need a certain amount of detail/understanding, then it gets more complicated, but that would be a whole other thing to break down and such
or
tl;dr
Quick Version
Read the full article. Keep an eye out for emotionally loaded words, and all-or-nothing language
Keep an eye out or anything that sounds too good to be true, and in contrast, anything that sounds so awful it must be true.
If I don't know the website:
Run the website/source through the amazing Media Bias/Fact Check. They'll tell you about a publication's bias and history of accuracy
If I trust the source, but something else pinged my radar:
Do a quick web search to verify anything that sounds suspicious or too good/bad to be true (Recommended: use DuckDuckGo)
#should I make this a flowchart?#it might actually be professionally useful#and it would be good practice for work - I haven't gotten practice on building infographics or diagrams in forever#genuinely want feedback on if anyone would be interested in a factchecking process flowchart#it would look very different than this post it definitely wouldn't be just this with arrows between the paragraphs or something#because the best way to convey complex processes in text is NOT the same as the best way to convey it visually#anyway#not news#guides#masterpost#fact check#misinformation#politics#science

Visualization for Self Shippers
Sit somewhere comfortably.
Close your eyes
Take five deep breaths– deep, slow breaths.
When you inhale, let your breaths fill down to your stomach.
Purse your lips and exhale slowly. Twice as long as you took to inhale.
As you move forward, continue to take long, slow breaths.
You are sitting on your F/O's lap.
It's not the back of your chair that you feel behind you. It's your F/O's chest supporting you.
How does their body feel against yours? Is it strong and firm? Slim and bony? Soft and plush?
Take a moment to enjoy the sensation of sitting with your back against your F/O, their body supporting yours.
Take another breath, and exhale it slowly.
Feel your F/O reach around your body to cradle you in their arms.
Feel the sensation of their arms enclosing you, holding you.
Feel the place on your body where your F/O gently rests their hands.
Consider your F/O's hands. What do they feel like against you? Are they big and powerful? Are they slim and delicate? Are they warm, or cool?
Let your F/O hold you for a long moment in their comforting presence.
Take another long breath and exhale slowly.
Let your F/O's hands move gently over your body. Feel the tingle of their fingers as they slide over you.
Feel your F/O's hand rest on your cheek and cup it gently.
Take another long breath and exhale it slowly.
Let your F/O lean over your shoulder, and kiss your neck, or your cheek or ear.
Feel the sensation of their lips against your flesh. How do they kiss you? Is it soft and fluttering? Is it firm and moist? Is it rough and hungry?
Let your F/O kiss you for a while as you rest your body against the support of their chest.
Linger awash in the comforting sensation of your F/O, breathing in and out.
Let your F/O squeeze you one more time, feeling the force of their body holding yours.
Then let them release you. Open your eyes, and stand up, feeling their support for you.

Start Your Guided Visualization Practice in Minutes: Travel to the Elysian Fields
Guided visualization is a powerful technique that involves using your imagination to create vivid mental images. It is often used in meditation and mindfulness practices, helping individuals to relax and focus their minds. Unlike traditional meditation, which can sometimes be challenging for beginners, guided visualization offers structured guidance. This approach makes it easier to access the…
