#HE IS SOKKA'S WIFE SO TRUE

Would you be willing to do one where the g'aang meets zuko with his dragons and is like? Wtf? Because I would appreciate the image of aang seeing thw dragons and going, can I pet em, while sokka or katara is like, can I fight dragons? No, no I cannot, and the other is going, not evil fire lord, bet. Please?
(Continued from parts one, two, and three.)
“My older brother should have had the throne, of course,” said the man Aang had come to meet. “But he was still mourning for his son, when… Well, when I think of it now, it was the beginning. My father, poisoned in his bedchambers. My wife, missing in the night. It took me years to piece together what must have happened. It was unthinkable, for a child so young to…”
Aang swallowed thickly, his hands balls on his legs. “Zuko… did all that?”
“When he was younger than you are now. There was always something wrong with that child,” former Fire Lord Ozai said, from between the ruin of his twisted lips in his scared face. Aang wasn’t sure how much farther the scaring extended, but… but he could see it creeping down under the man’s collar, emerging again on his hands. “I was not—I am not—a good man, Avatar Aang. I know that. I was like King Kuei, sheltered in my palace, unaware of the true extent of this war. A spare prince; I was never meant to rule. Neither was he. But obstacles were removed from his path, one by one, until I was the only one who stood in his way. I was not a good man, Avatar. But I would never try to kill my own father.”
“Thank you for speaking with me,” Aang said. “And… I accept your offer, Sifu Ozai.”
Sokka and Katara shifted behind him, uneasily. Long Feng gave no sign as to his opinion, beyond being the one to make this meeting with the Fire Nation’s rebel leader possible. But there were very few firebenders not under Fire Lord Zuko’s control. Aang had to learn from someone. And… at least Ozai understood, how dangerous fire could be.
* * *
Earth King Kuei had thrown out the treaty his advisors had spent so long negotiating, and slapped together his own private agreement with Fire Lord Zuko after only a few days; Ba Sing Se and the eastern part of the continent were left intact and under Kuei’s reign, while the western coast was handed off to the Fire Nation as tribute.
The North Pole’s borders remained closed.
The South had been the first nation pressed into an end-of-war treaty, while the Fire Lord’s dragons watched on.
The Air Nomads… if there were any left, still hiding somewhere, they hadn’t come out for Aang.
* * *
Master Yagoda wasn’t a fighter, and claimed that one world journey was quite enough for her lifetime. She’d remained in the South Pole after Aang’s training there was complete, to help her new tribe.
Long Feng’s responsibilities as the Earth Kingdom’s own rebel leader made it inadvisable for him to place himself in enemy hands. The Fire Lord and King Kuei were close; if Long Feng were taken prisoner, he would be handed off to Ba Sing Se for a quick trial, and likely a quicker execution.
Sifu Ozai’s injuries made it impossible for him to truly fight by Aang’s side, of course, even if he didn’t face an even swifter death than Long Feng should they be captured on Fire Nation soil.
But this was Aang’s job. He was the Avatar, so he had to do this. He had to give all the nations of the world a chance to grow, free from the Fire Lord’s enforced peace.
“We’re not leaving you now,” Katara said, placing a hand on his shoulder. Her brother mirrored her, a moment later.
They’d started as his escorts, in this terrifying new world. He’d trained under the same master Katara had; learned everything there was to know about healing, from Master Yagoda, who’d used the false peace to travel south. Healing was… it was so much better, than the training Sifu Long Feng had put him through, the precise way earthbending could be used to contain or kill. Or Sifu Ozai’s lessons, hard learned, about just how much fire it took to truly stop a fellow bender. At least Ozai had been sympathetic to Aang’s concerns, to the culture only he seemed to remember. Ozai didn’t want his son dead, either. He still loved him, even after what he’d done. He just… wanted him stopped.
Fire didn’t kill easily. But it could definitely stop someone. And then Aang could heal him, and just… keep him in jail. The Fire Lord had a little sister, kept hostage all these years, who Ozai thought might still be convinced to join them. She could be the new Fire Lord, with Ozai as her regent. And then the Earth King’s main ally would be gone, and Long Feng could go back to reclaim his home for the people, instead of the nobility who’d grown rich on war without ever stepping foot outside of their walled inner city.
And. And Aang could travel, and relearn this world, and practice his healing more. That was what the world really needed: healing.
But it was like Yagoda had taught him. Sometimes a break had to be reset, before it could really heal.
* * *
It was… really easy, getting into the Fire Nation palace. They rolled Appa in soot, and came in the night. Landed on a roof. Entered through an upper window on an inner courtyard, where guards wouldn’t think to stand watch. The Fire Nation had uncontested aerial supremacy, after all.
They knew where the Fire Lord’s rooms were; they were Ozai’s old ones. They were also very empty. Which they’d been warned about, because apparently the Fire Lord did his best evil planning at night when his advisors couldn’t reign him in.
There was the flicker of candlelight under the sliding doors to his office. And… no guards. Which led to a round of is-this-the-right-place looks shared between them, but. This was where the map Ozai had given them said to go. So they had another round of looks, with resolute nods this time, and then Katara was sliding open the door as he and Sokka ran in and…
…And a very tired looking servant was standing in front of a desk, shuffling papers around like there was something he’d missed in them. His long hair was partially tied up in a frazzled bun, but mostly down his back. He blinked at them through a pair of glasses that were almost an exact match for the ones in fashion at King Kuei’s court, like he’d gotten them from the same artisan. And also there were some ink stains on his face, like maybe he’d fallen asleep on some still-drying documents. So… maybe a scribe?
“Where’s the Fire Lord?” Sokka demanded, club raised.
“...I can see the family resemblance,” said the servant, who had turned fully to face them, and oh. He… had the Fire Lord’s scar. And there was the Fire Lord’s crown, being used as a paperweight at the edge of the desk.
“Does Chief Hakoda know his children are here to assassinate his ally—” Fire Lord Zuko said.
“ ‘Ally’ is a little strong,” interrupted Sokka.
“—Or do the Water Tribes have their own ‘rebel leader’ now?”
“ ‘Assassinate’ is a little strong, too,” Aang said softly, shuffling his feet, his hands tight around his staff.
The Fire Lord stared at him a moment. “...Ah. So my father would prefer that you maim me, and drop me in a dark cell for the rest of my life?”
“Umm.”
Zuko stared, and stared, and then pushed up his glasses and rubbed at his eyes. “Listen. Can we just… reschedule this?”
“Reschedule,” Katara repeated. “This.”
“You haven’t attacked me yet, so this isn’t technically a diplomatic incident. It’s just… a scheduling conflict?”
Sokka snorted, and then looked vaguely angry at himself. Katara elbowed him. Aang kept gripping his glider, but maybe a little less tightly.
“We got news of an earthquake on Shojima not even two candlemarks ago,” the Fire Lord said, sliding his glasses back down. “Which means the tsunami is on its way to the main coast by now, if it hasn’t hit already, and I need to get these out if the relief supplies are going to be on their way by morning. So we can either have a really fast assassination attempt and then I have to add ‘explain to the world why the Fire Lord killed the Avatar and a nation’s heirs’ to my schedule sometime this week. Or we can talk first, but I don’t have time for that, so can we reschedule this to…”
And the very evil Fire Lord turned away from them to begin shuffling through his papers.
“First,” Sokka said, pointing a finger at the teenager, “Aang would be more than a quick fight, rude. Second: I’m still working on the second, but seriously, rude. And third, what do you mean you’d put our fiery-death-explanations into your schedule sometime this week?”
The Fire Lord didn’t seem to be listening. But he’d apparently found his appointment book, so that was good? Except for all the flipping.
“I can do… lunch tomorrow? If you’re okay with actually eating while we talk. I’m not allowed to skip meals, or Captain Izumi cancels my appointments ‘for national security’.”
Sokka slowly lowered down his pointing finger.
“Talking would be good,” Aang said. “I like talking.”
And then they got to meet Captain Izumi, which was a lot scarier than meeting the Fire Lord.
And then they realized that what they’d thought was vaguely tacky dragon-print paneling along two walls was actual dragon skin and this wasn’t an office it was an open-air veranda and—
“Quick fight” might have been an accurate prediction, yes.
More accurate than Sifu Ozai’s map.

And Mac and sun fell in love with the reader who has water and fire bender
But the reader found out it wasn't heathy and they are yandere so some how she made it back home and then fell in love with Ang and years the reader child two years old and angi and her having a another baby but some how sun and Mac get into there work and take the cub back with there wife and make her eat the peach and take her home and the little kid that angs is rise by then as well
Oh wow I love the idea of this request 🤩, also the reader reminds me of an oc that I’m trying to make but she’s the daughter of zuko x sokka, anyway shall we get on with it?
This might have more than 7 paragraphs like the last one but I don’t know, i’ll see if I can do more than 7 paragraphs for this one as well.
Warnings: noob author, female reader, yandere characters, and others.
Characters: sun wukong, macaque.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shadowpeach:
You were the youngest out of the first borns of the fire nation royalty, making you zuko’s younger twin sister, which also meant that zuko would be overprotective of you and try to defend you from azula bullying that she is fond of doing to him and make sure you don’t get caught in her abusive ways, though he doesn’t know until later that she wants to protect you as much as he does as well and surprisingly your father, the fire lord also would like to protect you as well but zuko still tries to distance you from those two and more to your mother and uncle.
It was a shock to your family that you can waterbend as well as firebend but they decided to keep it a secret as it could cause a scandal to uproar in the court and the relations with you and zuko actually being apart of the family.
You found a little trinket in the pirate boat when you, your brother, and uncle was trying to find the current avatar to help restore zuko’s honor that he had lost when he was younger the trinket was kept with you and not officially put on until after you and zuko’s joined the gang group.
But when you put on that trinket it had brought you to a world you didn’t know existed before until now. You soon met a unusual group that is heading west to a being called buddha you decided to tag along as this Buddha could help you get home to your rightful world.
You ignore all of pigsy attempts at flirting with you, talk and spend some relaxing time with sandy and talk about the different things about each others culture with Tripitaka, though you spend most of your time with sun as he somehow found his way in your heart and soon became your crush.
You would heal sun with your waterbending and scold Tripitaka about his treatment towards sun and give facts about how he shouldn’t have done those things now or what happened in the past with the knowledge Anna had told you about monks, that made sun soon realize he as well has fallen in love with you too.
You met macaque when you and sun was searching for some vegetarian food for Tripitaka as you sadly won’t be apart of this group forever and cause you have a family to get to so you can’t stay even if you wanted to, macaque had startled you when handing you another fruit you would of overlooked if it wasn’t for him. When you notice how there seem to be a bad tension between the two you decided to fix it.
And fixed it you did as you had them talk about what they needed to talk about while also trying to make sure they don’t go ballistic on each other and try to kill each other over something that could be dealt with peacefully.
The two ended up persuading you into a relationship and how when the time comes for it then they will try to find a way for you three to be together.
You later learned how they actually act, with how they kill people you talk to and from their words ‘are a threat to your relationship’ which wasn’t true as there is something that was made because you loved them, it was also them that was the threat to this relationship for killing innocence people just because they talked with you one time.
You had somehow got the trinket to work and bring you back to your world, leaving behind two angry monkeys left behind after they realized you found a way back to your world, though what they didn’t know is that they would’ve been fathers if they haven’t messed up.
A few years went by, about 2, and you and your friend and first crush, avatar aang decide to get together with your first child from the previous relationship became aang’s child after marrying each other then came the cub that is named mk little sibling and the biological child of aang and what you didn’t know is that you’ll be seeing some people that you didn’t want to see.
Sun and macaque found a way to their missing lover’s world and now is on the search in that world.
You didn’t know what had happened as the next thing you knew is that your back to the world you previous went to but this time it’s more futuristic than it was before. Apparently it has been many years since they last seen you and not the same length of time like your world went to from that event.
Thankfully you have your two children with you but you hope you can get them away from the two.
Though you and the children both had eaten the peaches of immortality so you have a plenty time to play hide and seek from them.
Though that will be hard with two supernatural monkeys that would do anything for you and your children.
How about director's commentary on 'we'll give the world to you (and you'll blow us all away?'
Ooh gladly! Below the cut for length:
So this fic was written as part of Maiko "Halloweek" (so called because it was the week leading up to Halloween), aka Fall Maiko Week, back in 2020. Maiko was, and still is, one of my favorite ATLA ships, and writing this prompt also endeared me to Izumi too—I don't believe I'd seen LOK yet, though she's barely in it anyway.
One of the important aspects to me while writing this was implementing one of my headcanons: they got married relatively early, but waited a while to have kids. And part of that means they dealt with pressure about having an heir as soon as possible...mostly from the Fire Sages, who are worried that Zuko might die before conceiving an heir. And it's not that the worry is unfounded, but it's the persistence.
It was a nice chance, also, to highlight the Gaang's closeness. This is one of my favorite snippets of that:
…Zuko had the full force of the chi-blocking Kyoshi Warriors, a master waterbender, the Avatar, a master swordsman, a master earth- and metalbender, and a master knife-thrower behind him. Anyone who dared oppose him would fail, of that the Gaang (Sokka’s name for them, expanded to include the Kyoshi Warriors) was certain.
And also this, showcasing a little Maitara friendship:
... Mai found out from a furious Katara that they’d been approaching members of Team Avatar in an attempt to circumvent the royals.
“What’d you do?”
“Threatened to freeze them if they tried it again. But I’d keep my eyes peeled, just in case they didn't get the memo.”
The worst part is that even when they finally get the hint and back off in the pestering...the rumors don't stop:
The Fire Sages no longer brought up the need to have an heir, but Zuko and Mai had endeared themselves to the palace staff enough to know about the whispers. The sneers that perhaps the marriage was not as happy as presumed, that perhaps the Fire Lady had already been pregnant when they wed (apparently, some in the Fire Nation were praying that this was true, and Zuko had never felt like committing murder more than in that moment).
Of course, as stated later, the Fire Sages are spreading the rumors. The palace staff are too endeared to Mai and Zuko by this point...and the Fire Sages intend to force their hand however possible.
Also, this adorable Maiko moment, with a little Maiaang friendship:
“Since when are you into proverbs?” Zuko teased.
“I’ve been befriended by a certain Air Nomad,” she replied with a smirk. “It turns out, he and your uncle speak the same language.”
“And you’ve picked it up?”
“Unfortunately.”
And this one:
...he focused his efforts on the creation of the United Republic of Nations and enlisted Toph and Mai’s help in replacing the gossiping Fire Sages. When the Fire Sages protested, he simply said, “If you wanted my ear, you shouldn’t have insulted my wife.”
I love them 🥰 I will go down with this ship fr (that last line in particular...one of my favorites I've ever written)
Also...Mai telling Zuko she's pregnant under Yue's light (right after Zuko tells her Yue's story) is intentional, given that Izumi is born at the moon's peak—which itself is also intentional!
But back to that in a bit. For now...Mai and Zuko's shared anxiety was important for me to convey:
He looked at Mai very seriously and said, “Do you want this? Really, and truly, do you want to have this child?”
She looked back at him, first startled, then serious like him, and nodded firmly. “I do. But I also want to do it right. I want our child to know they’re loved, always, and that they never have to earn it.”
They both want their child, they want to do right by them, but they're scared too. And of course they'll do their level best and even beyond that, but that anxiety can be hard to shake. It takes time!
But now, back to Izumi:
Princess Izumi was born in late spring, at the moon’s peak, with a quick but steady breath in her lungs. It had been a difficult birth for her mother, and a stressful event for her father, and the fact that she had even lived to breathe was a miracle in itself.
As mentioned prior, Izumi being born at the moon's peak would likely be unusual for a firebender. Late spring itself probably isn't too strange, even if summer would likely be more auspicious.
Izumi has a little asthma at birth too! Nothing too serious, but she is the first (and only) child. I've never liked the hc that Mai dies in childbirth, or that she and Zuko stop having kids because of pregnancy complications...but as someone who's the eldest child, yeah, we are usually pretty difficult births (one of my baby cousins was too).
And then, of course...it gets worse, because Izumi doesn't have the Spark.
So here's the thing about the Spark: I've admittedly never been totally sure what it is, I've always imagined it as the sun hitting a baby's eyes in a specific way...but I also think it's superstition more than it's legit. Zuko didn't have a Spark either, and he's a formidable bender. It's probably an old wive's tale, and it rightfully Zuko off:
“You cannot have a nonbender heir,” another Sage snapped. “It has never been done!”
“I was presumed to be a nonbender upon my birth,” Zuko retorted sharply, “and I ask you to mind your tone. I am your Fire Lord and this child’s father. If you’d like to try appealing to my wife, I assure you, my feelings toward this pale in comparison."
...
“Believe me, she means it,” Zuko said coldly from the door, startling the Sages. “And so do I. One more step towards my wife or daughter, and I will not hesitate to incinerate you.”
Another fun part was writing Mai getting pissed too:
Unbelievably, they tried just that, not even giving Mai the courtesy of sleep before approaching her. Mai, being both sleep-deprived and furious that they would propose infanticide, warned,
“Get away from my daughter or she won’t be the one disposed of today.”
Any time I get to write her emotions, it's really fun for me, because she's usually such a reserved character, while I am very much not 😅 she's so unlike me, so it's always fun to dig into why she's like that (which I've done in other fics), and show her being more emotional as she marries Zuko and grows older, to show how she's grown and changed 💞
Zuko being protective of Mai was fun to write too...and him being protective of Izumi!! He loves her so much already 🥰 and speaking of which...I loved writing this first moment of him holding her:
“Getting sappy on me? Save that for Izzy.”
Zuko smiled at his daughter. “Hello, my little turtleduck. Don’t mind your mother. She loves us, really.”
Loved it so much that it ended up as the preview in the summary 😂
Also ofc, this scene with him and Izumi later:
“And this is the turtleduck pond, where the turtleducks live! Except you, of course, little one.” He pressed his forehead to hers. “You’re my little turtleduck, and you’re actually human, so you get to live in the palace with me and your mom!”
But Izumi caught sight of the turtleducks, who were squawking happily at her, and seemingly out of nowhere, she burst out crying.
“Oh! Oh, um..what’s wrong, Turtleduck?” The name only made Izumi cry harder, and Zuko winced. “Um...Izzy? Izumi? What’s wrong, sweetie?” Her crying didn’t abate, and Zuko flipped her on her stomach and over his shoulder, patting her back firmly in an attempt to burp her.
He gets so worried here, it's adorable 🥺 remember what I said earlier about how Maiko both want Izumi but they're scared/anxious, and both things coexist? This demonstrates that. Zuko's a little out of his depth, and it shows, and I loved writing this. No parents are perfect to start off, especially not parents like Mai and Zuko who are flying...mostly blind (with help ofc, but even so...they're the full-time parents). But they're determined to do right by Izumi no matter what.
Mai says something to that effect here:
“Look, Zuko. What you did, when she was crying? The way you panicked and tried to soothe her in any way you could? That’s the mark of a great father. That’s the mark of a father who cares, who might not have all the answers but still wants to try.” She smiled softly. “It’s leagues better than either of our fathers, I’ll tell you that.”
As Mai says, she's “full of good points”, and I’m quite inclined to agree 🥰
(Also, as a bonus, I got to throw a little shade at parts of the ATLA comics. Aang refuses to even consider killing Zuko, and Kei Lo is Mai’s ex, not her boyfriend. Ahh how I love throwing shade at the comics 💞)
director’s commentary ask game!
Those two angsty pieces put me in the mood for something a little more light-hearted, so Misc #16 for Toko?
LJF, hello! Thanks for the ask :D I seem to have the bug for writing today, and so I figured I'd write this up and post it right away haha. Hope the this is hits the light-hearted Toko spot!
......
Toko - Misc - #16 - “YOU SAID TO BE HONEST STOP HITTING ME!”
“Ugh!”
Zuko looked up from his scroll, setting his morning tea down to look across the bedroom. The sound was undoubtedly coming from the closet, and he had a feeling he knew what was up.
Still, Zuko found himself asking his wife, “Everything okay?”
Toph let out a loud sigh, hollering back. “I feel like I look stupid.”
“What?”
“I feel ginormous and I feel like if I walk out of this closet I’m going to appear as big as a platypus bear.”
A faint smile played at Zuko’s lips, but he quickly wiped it away as he stood up and walked toward the closet. “I’m sure that’s not true, Toph. Besides, no one is going to care. And if they do, you’ll just throw a boulder at them.”
“Still! Everyone’s coming to the palace today, and you know one of the dunderheads is gonna say something.”
“Aang and Sokka know better than to say something, Toph,” Zuko said. “Remember when they came here before Kaede was born? They definitely learned their lesson.”
He remembered that particular day fondly, for it felt like the perfect storm of comedic and chaotic timing how both Sokka and Aang opened their big mouths at the same time. They just had to let Toph know how big she looked just a week before she was due. If Toph hadn’t skyrocketed them in the air with her earth pillars, Zuko probably would’ve lit their pants on fire. Now, of course, they could laugh at the memory. At the time, though, Toph’s wrath was not so funny to the boys. Now, Zuko hope for their sake that they knew better than to speak on the appearance of a pregnant woman, especially if that woman was Toph Beifong.
And yet, Toph still felt self-conscious enough to feel that Aang and Sokka hadn’t learned their lesson. “Yes,” she began, “but I wasn’t pregnant with twins then. I look twice as big now!”
With crossed arms, Zuko replied, “Okay, well let me see, and I’ll be the judge of that.”
Toph let out a sigh, then emerged from the closet with the biggest pout on her face. “Tell me I don’t look huge. You can’t.”
Every time he saw Toph’s glowing, growing figure, his heart skipped a beat. She wore a loose-fitting Fire Nation robe, and while Zuko truly thought she was stunning, the garment didn’t really do her any favors. It draped over her round belly, and, well…
It made her appear rather tent-like.
The man began to sweat. How on earth was he supposed to tell her that even though she was the most beautiful woman in the world that this particular robe made her look bigger than she actually was?
Zuko swallowed the lump in his throat, beginning the conversation by peppering her with compliments. “You look beautiful, Toph.”
“That’s not saying I don’t look fat.”
“Toph, come on. You’re pregnant with twins. No one really cares what you look like or what you’re wearing. They’re all just coming here to celebrate!”
“Zuko. I will call up every single one of our friends right now if you don’t tell me the truth. Do. I. Look. Fat.”
This was a lose-lose situation for the firebender. To lie and say she didn’t look fat would earn him a one way trip to the polar-bear-dog house, for she would certainly catch him in the lie.
If he was honest? Well, that was bound to end in disaster, too.
He let out a sigh, and mumbled, “You—the robes make you look a little big—”
Zuko was immediately attacked Toph’s tiny but mighty fist, causing him to shout and yell, “Ow! Qu—Toph! Cut it out! I was just telling the truth—”
“You said I look fat!”
“You said be honest! Stop hitting me!!” he hissed.
“No!”
“Toph—what was I supposed to do? Lie?”
“Yes!”
“You would’ve caught me in the lie!”
Toph paused for half a second, then continued to smack his shoulder. “That—that’s not the point! You should know better!”
“I tried to steer you a different direction—”
“Steer?! Am I more like a cow? Is that it?”
“No! No, nothing close to a cow—Toph. You really are beautiful.”
“Just not right now, is that it?” “I never said that—” “Oh, save it. I’m calling Katara right now so she’s ready to kick your ass into the next Sozin Comet.”
Spirits help Zuko. This was going to be a long day.
By Your Side: Sokkla Saturdays 2023
Day 4: Winter
AO3 & FF.Net
Lovers liked asking questions they knew the answers to. Only to hear their loved one say it out loud.
Continuation of last week
Another Sokkla Saturdays is coming to an end. This year things turned out slightly different for me, but as every year, I enjoyed taking part! Thanks @sokklasaturdays for holding this event! Already looking forward for next year!=)
All day wanted was for this moment to last forever. Enjoy the warm embrace longer. However, luck wasn’t on their side which was to be expected. When Katara went into Sokka’s room, alarmed, Azula had an idea of what happened.
“Prince Zuko and Prince Lu Ten are here!” Katara said.
“What does he want?” asked Sokka rubbing his eyes.
His question caused both girls to look at him unbelievably.
“Oh, yeah…” he said.
Sokka took Azula’s hand.
“No matter what happens, I will always be with you Azula. No one can force you to anything.”
They walked out to see Zuko and Lu Ten in the living room.
Lu Ten gave his cousin a meaningful stare but smiled.
“Maybe we should leave brother and sister alone.” Kya said.
Sokka held Azula’s gaze  while walking out. She gave him a nod and only then he left the igloo.
Once everyone was out Zuko talked.
“Being reckless doesn’t suit you Azula.”
Azula folded her arms narrowing her eyes.
“Says the Prince who keeps pulling reckless stunts for Mai.”
Zuko raised an eyebrow. Did his sister really admit that she felt as strongly towards Sokka as he felt for Mai, his wife? He knew about Azula’s feelings but hearing her indirectly admitting it was another level.
“I will cut this short: I support you.” Zuko said.
“You?” Azula asked skeptical.
“Yes” he replied, “Do I never?”
“Yeah, sometimes you do.” she said.
“Chief Hakoda, Uncle Iroh and Lu Ten are all by your side. Father was forced to come to Kyoshi Island.” Zuko said.
“Wait! Support what exactly?” Azula asked.
“You are marrying Sokka.” Zuko said.
“What…” Before she could continue her sentence, Sokka ran into the igloo.
“Azula! Did you hear that?” he gave her a powerful hug and swirled her around, “Father told me we can finally marry.”
Azula was confused, happy, excited, and scared at the same time. She looked at her brother and he smiled.
...................................
Fire Lord Iroh made efforts to convince his stubborn brother to put an end to bad blood with the Water Tribe and finally aligned. Hakoda was ready for it. Everyone else was except for Ozai. He went mad in the Fire Nation first. Yet it was worth it in the end. After a long discussion, Ozai halfheartedly agreed. Ursa tried to calm him down so Azula wouldn’t see his anger once they met.
Azula entered his room on Kyoshi Island along with Sokka. Ozai looked disgusted at his soon to be son-in-law, already disliking him. All these years they never got along well.
“Out with you. I will speak to my daughter alone.” He said harshly.
Again, Sokka looked at Azula first and left the room once she assured him she would be fine with her eyes- He made sure to graze his knuckles at Her’s while walking out.
Despite it all, the talk between father and daughter went well. Ozai said, she could marry Sokka, but he wouldn’t truly see him as his son. That was enough for Azula. As long as she wouldn’t have to choose between her family and the man she loved, all would be fine.
Before another fight could escalate, Azula and Sokka told their families, they would marry on Whale tail Island. It was a beautiful place without habitants. And it was near to Kyoshi Island, where they all stayed during meetings. They would mix both nations traditions.
.............................
A dream was coming true. Evening arrived, candles were lit. Whale tail Island was about to witness the most beautiful day, the reunion between two lovers.
Azula and Sokka deserved it. Years of struggle and heartache was finally coming to an end.
Their respective families were already there. Close friends were arriving one by one. Uncle Iroh was the only royal missing from Azula’s family. Since he was Fire Lord, he couldn’t just sail half of the world. He made sure to send the pair a luxury gift with congratulations letter.
Admiral Zhao arrived, his distaste towards Sokka clear in his eyes.
“Congratulations Azula. You certainly could have done better. But we will support our Princess anyway.”
Sokka scowled at the comment.
“You are right Admiral.” Azula replied smirking sideways at Sokka.
“What the?!” Sokka squeaked.
Zhao chuckled and walked to take a seat.
“Azulaaaaa!” Sokka said.
“What? He is right. I could do better.” she said, acting innocent.
Sokka stopped and thought about it.
“Yeah, you truly could.” he said looking down sadly.
Azula laughed and hugged him, giving a kiss to his cheek.
“I love you Sokka. You are perfect for me dummy.” she said.
Sokka already lightened up when she kissed him, smiling and looking at her.
“I love you, you are the one who is perfect Azula.” he said giving her a peck. “Even if you like messing with me.
Many of their family members congratulated and hugged them. Lu Ten gazed at his cousin. Katara gave them both a short speech with teary eyes.
Mai and Ty Lee arrived too. Zuko never left his wife’s side. Ever so careful. Azula’s eyes went to Mai’s visible bump.
After a hugging session Azula asked how Mai was feeling.
“I’m faring well. Can’t wait for the baby to arrive.” She said with a smile.
All of them smiled. Mai suddenly smirked her eyes set on Azula and Sokka.
“Well, seems like Azula will grow a baby bump too soon.”
Zuko gasped and looked unpleasant.
Azula was slightly taken a back and Ty Lee clapped.
“Well, well!” Sokka was smirking too, side eyeing his soon to be wife.
Azula blushed and Sokka chuckled.
“You two deserve happiness. Finally, all of us can have a peaceful rest not that you guys are marrying.” Mai told them earnestly. Which made Zuko smile fondly too.
Soon the ceremony began, and they finally married. Clapping and laughter filled the island.
The first dance was romantic only for Azula and Sokka.
Soon Hakoda danced happily with his wife. Ursa urged her husband to dance too, but the prominent scowl on Ozai’s face while he watched his precious daughter dancing with her husband couldn’t make her enjoy the dance fully. Yet she still smiled hugging her husband.
Although Sokka’s eyes never left Azula, he saw a sight that made him wince. His sister was dancing with Aang.
It didn’t last long, and he was gazing at his Azula again. Her arms around his neck, his firmly on her back, foreheads touching they danced away as a married couple…
Hi after reading the story multiple times I would like to ask does Ozai really love Azula, I personally think he does in his own way. I wonder whats your perspective.
That's a can of worms that is slightly difficult to address conclusively...
For starters, let's revisit the fact that Ozai comes from a very toxic environment, which I've explored and will continue to explore through flashbacks. While the common take in the fandom is that Ilah died and Azulon hates Ozai for it (a la Tywin and Tyrion Lannister), I personally preferred the idea of Ilah living a few more years and actually having a small part in Ozai's upbringing before dying over health issues when he was still a child. In our case, Azulon's particular distaste for Ozai comes fron Azulon being an authentic megalomaniac narcissist for whom everyone else is a tool to further his personal glory, including his favored son, Iroh. Ozai was unnecessary, likely an accident, as far as his conception is concerned, an addition to the family that Azulon didn't need when Iroh was fulfilling all his personal expectations for an heir and his son. Ozai was in the way, an annoyance, one that appeared to even threaten Iroh in some regards due to how ambitious he could be.
This means Ozai's early experience when it comes to love is minimal: the best he knows of love within his family is what few memories he may have left of Ilah.
Then, things get more complicated once Ursa shows up in his life. I've said it before: if Ozai came close to fully loving someone the RIGHT way, Gladiator-wise, it was her. There were moments, situations, where he could set aside his worst impulses because she inspired him to do so. There are developments in their marriage that could have helped steer Ozai away from the darkness he eventually gives himself to completely. But since other things start to happen, the worms of greed and ambition begin to rear their ugly heads inside Ozai once again: his first real conflict with Ursa winds up being a way worse problem than either of them realizes or even understands, all of which snowballs into Ozai becoming the power-obsessed bastard we've come to know him as. As usual: this doesn't mean Ursa had ANY responsibility to heal/fix/change Ozai. While she made her own set of mistakes, he made plenty of his own and refused to open his eyes and heart to things that mattered so much more than his ego and pride. It's not on Ursa that Ozai turns out to be the terrible mess of a human being that he is.
All of this to lead into what is Ozai's true defining relationship and his last chance at retaining any degree of humanity: his relationship with Azula.
I've talked extensively about this in the past, such as about how he wasn't a great father all along, treating Azula as a tool, a weapon, the means through which he could triumph in anything he set out to do. The first strike against this mentality, his belief that he has raised Azula to be the invulnerable prodigious firebender he thinks she is, is in the Attack of the White Lotus arc, where he's confronted by the reality that even his perfect daughter is not infallible and not above the mundanity of catching a cold. It's kind of silly when you see it that way, but it seriously takes a toll on Ozai. Later on, we have Azula's bouts of rebellion, each stronger than the last, and the more she stands up to him, the more Ozai inevitably grows to admire and respect his daughter, most of all because she starts to remind him, subconsciously or not so much, of his strongwilled wife.
Of course, all this build-up that even led him to saying heartwrenching and frustrating phrases like "What sort of father could ever be disappointed in a daughter like you?" (spoiler: HIM!!) gets doused in oil and set on fire once he learns about her relationship with Sokka. By then, the relationship between Azula and Ozai is fractured and damaged with no hope of true repair. Even if he tried to make amends (which he hasn't so far), there's simply no way for these two to ever reclaim the kind of tense but still ultimately positive relationship they used to have.
But as we can see right now in the story, Ozai wants to reclaim that normalcy. He isn't particularly bright when it comes to accepting the consequences of his actions, he believes being Fire Lord means nothing he does should have consequences to begin with (a behavior he unfortunately learned from Azulon, like so many other things), and his behavior right now, where he kind of wants to erase the conflicts (whether those with Zhao or with Azula) now that he "resolved" everything by "killing Sokka" and just go back to the status quo, tells you that he hasn't really understood something obvious.
That HE is the problem.
And while he's objectively despicable for this, that makes him a frustrating and yet dynamic character to write...
So, what shall I say about where this particular mindset is going to take Ozai?
Well, maybe I can give you a bit more information than I should and say that this bastard of a Fire Lord is going to face some serious consequences of the DISASTROUS choices he has made across the past months. And when they arrive (around chapter 320)? The rude awakening will hit him HARD. The reality of his mistakes will finally become undeniable: his personal responsibility in the events taking place will be undeniable too. And once all of this hits, slower realizations will come through, too. Among them? That Azula is basically the one person he has left in life. The only one who has every single reason in the world to turn her back on him... and yet she's still there. And if she turned her back on him? He wouldn't be surprised. Hell, he wouldn't even be disappointed anymore: he would know it's his fault, at goddamn last, and he wouldn't even pretend otherwise. Would he be upset about it? Sure, but ultimately, he'd understand. He'd know he has pushed her too far, and he realizes that, if he had been in her shoes, with a father like himself? He would've likely gone out of his way to commit fratricide already :') the fact that Azula hasn't gone there, partly because his control over her is STILL strong enough to prevent that, since, for better or for worse, Azula still cares about him... all of this is nothing short of a miracle for Ozai. He'd better be grateful for it :')
And I'd dare say that, in the end, he will be. In the end, he'll come to terms with the fact that the one chance he had at making better choices, at being a better man than the absolute trainwreck he ever has been, was Azula.
Whether we decide this means he loves her or not, I guess time will tell. But for now, I can say that she's the most important bond in his life, even if he finds much more comfort in memories of his wife. Once we reach this point of his development, if a situation eventually leads him to choosing between retaining power at the cost of his daughter, or giving up power while keeping her safe and alive, he might, MIGHT, finally make the right choice... but considering how long it takes him to reach that point, and how many things he breaks and ruins before getting there, it's hard to tell if said decision would suffice to say that he truly loves Azula.
Ultimately, Ozai's idea of love is so much more vague and abstract than that of anyone else. To him, the love other people feel for each other tends to be garbage, weakness: the feelings certain people (particularly, Azula and Ursa) elicit inside him are confusing, hard to apprehend, but valuable enough that they can spur him to contradict his instincts at times. The question winds up being, ultimately, if he'd ever choose either of them over himself... and I don't really dare answer that question just yet :'D I guess we'll all see when the time comes!
Fandoms & Ships
I am a true nerd, and as such, continously seek out new media and their fandoms, and become involved with them, while also cyclically coming back to the ones I already love. I am a romantic, and I love see love in general (all types of love, not just romantic!), so I am also a very big shipper!
I don't always have a set ship(s) for every fandom I find myself in, nor do I think it necessary to try and "prove" that mine are better than other ships. I like what I like, and I like seeing what others like as well. So I might have OTPs, but I also like engaging with content for all kinds of ships, even true rarepairs.
I also don't think it necessary for a fandom to have ships, so just because I have a listed ship that I like/love, doesn't mean I can't have neutral/objective thoughts and opinions about that particular piece of media.
That being said, here's a list of fandoms I come back to, or keep up with, and a list of ships I have a preference for. OTPs are bolded! Oh, and media (as in the series, books, shows, etc.) are rated according to my opinion!
Our duty (part 2)
 part 1: https://www.tumblr.com/the-air-nomad/719043967998656512/our-duty-part-1?source=share
Tumblr media
Sokka POV:
 After learning the wonderful news, my life underwent a 180-degree turn. First, I had to break up with Suki through a letter. At least now she will have a topic of conversation with Mai. Do I need to mention that Zuko already sent me a message in which he made fun of me with all the subtlety of a lion moose?! I think not! Then I had to witness Katara's argument with father about the fact that arranging the marriage of his own son does not help to prove to the new people from the North that arranged marriages are wrong and that children should be left to choose their own partners. At least Aang had the decency to console me and grieve for me. It would have been much better if he hadn't given a related monologue about how his life would end if Katara was no longer with him. OOGIES! I also received some encouragement from Toph, who advised me to stop crying like a baby koala sheep and to move on like the big boy that I am. Did you think that was the worst part? Nooo! Gran-Gran decided this would be a great time to spend some quality time with my new grandpa. So I had to learn to make an engagement necklace from master Pakku. I don't care what Katara and Aang say, that guy doesn't know how to teach at all. I received more than a dozen slaps on the back of the neck because I have no respect for tradition and for my future wife. In the name of Tui and La, I am a warrior not a jeweler! I hope that Yue is luckier than me and that she doesn't have to go through such torture!
Yue POV:
I can't believe that my father could do such a thing! I will die of shame! The worst thing was that he expected me to be happy! Yes, I really loved Sokka and I still love him, but even though his decision to leave me broke my heart, I had to accept his decision! I know that I also broke his heart when I confessed to him that I was engaged. I can't even think about the fact that he already had a girlfriend. I still remember the moment I found out about his new conquest. A messenger from the Earth Kingdom had come to the palace to announce the end of the war. I was so happy to learn that my friends had succeeded and so proud that they had become extraordinary heroes. Then the messenger started to tell some adventures of the avatar team. To be honest, I still hoped that now that Sokka had become a true hero, and also a prince, he would return to the North to shame all those who had doubted him and to ask for my hand in marriage. I had noticed that my father was thinking the same thing as me when he asked the earthbender more about the Water Tribe warrior. Our hearts dropped at the same time when we heard how Sokka snuck into the best guarded prison in the world alongside the fire prince, all to save his red-haired girlfriend and his father. Tears started to fall almost instantly and I ran as fast as I could to my room. It seems that my prince was already living a fairy tale with another girl.I don't even know how much time I spent crying. At some point I came to terms with the idea that Sokka couldn't have loved a boring woman like me. I'm just a little girl protected from the world, I don't have extraordinary intelligence or beauty and I can't fight. But my father was not reconciled to the idea that his princess was rejected in favor of a scumbag from the Earth Kingdom. He immediately contacted Master Pakku and they tried to do all kinds of things to facilitate a future marriage to unite our tribes. It seems that Master Pakku had not completely given up his old ideas and that he considered the fighter Kyoshi totally unsuitable for his new grandson. He even tried to convince the rest of the family members of this but was unsuccessful and had to give up in order not to sabotage his marriage. Although 5 years have passed in which my father tried to marry me without success, as soon as the problem of the independence of the South appeared, he did not hesitate to take advantage.Tui and La, please forgive me for taking part in such a dishonorable act and give me the chance to get revenge on Sokka and his family.
Although I do not own the characters from avatar the last airbender, this work belongs to me! I sincerely hope you liked it and please rate it and leave a comment! follow me to see the continuation and to see my next posts! 💖💖💨
Dialogue of the southern raiders. But Hama and Sokka are there instead of Zuko.
Katara: “Do you know who we are?
Yon Rah: “No. I’m not sure.”
Katara: “You better remember us like your life depends on it! Why don't you take a closer look?”
Yon Rah: “Yes, yes, I remember you now. You're that little Water Tribe girl. You, I've never seen before, who are you?”
Sokka: "I'm the little water tribe girl's sister."
Katara: “She lied to you. She was protecting the last waterbender!”
Yon Rah: “Who?”
Katara: “ME!”
Yon Rah: “I was just following orders! The new fire lord Ozai ordered the hit on your mother! He’s who you want!”
Sokka: “What? Ozai ordered you kill our mother?”
Yon Rah: “Yes! Do you want to know why?”
Katara: “YES!”
Yon Rah: “This was two days after Ozai’s coordination, after his father Azulon was assassinated by Ozai's wife, Ursa, she got banished because of it! Ozai learned about this witch from who managed to escape prison using some unholy magic to control people’s bodies! He lead us to believe that the monstrous waterbender has returned to the south pole and so his first order of business was to send the southern raiders!”
Katara and Sokka turn to Hama.
Katara: “Is this true?”
Hama: “What does it matter children? He’ll say anything to avoid the punishment he deserves. We’ve come this far. Finish him!”
Yon Rah: “Wait! I did a bad thing! I know I did and you deserve revenge, so why don't you take your friend! The witch! That would be fair! She was supposed to die, not your mother! I'd also ask you to take my mother but I already killed her by accident.”
Hama: “We’ve said enough! This insect is more pathetic then I thought, we can end this. Kill him Katara, kill him now.”
Katara: “I always wondered what kind of person could do such a thing, but now that I see you, I think I understand. There's just nothing inside you, nothing at all. You're pathetic and sad and empty.”
Hama: “Precisely, scum like him don’t deserve to live. Kill him!”
Katara hesitated, she turn to Hama.
Hama: “What are you waiting for? Do it!”
Katara turned to Sokka but he’s as confused on what to do as she is.
Hama: “This must a difficult task but you need to kill the killer of her mother! KILL HIM NOW!”
Katara: “As much as I hate you and will never forgive you for what you done...I just can't do it.”
Katara closes her eyes and lowers her head.
Sokka: As her brother, she has every right to say this but I'm not my sister. Even though I'll never get over the pain for what you did to our mother. I do forgive you. Because, as far as I can tell, you are no longer a threat to us and what's past is past. You have a chance to do better, be better, don't waste it.
Katara was shocked to hear this. Enraged, Hama constructed a water blade from the rain and beheaded Yon Rah.
Katara: “(Gasps horrified) What have you done?!”
Hama: “What you are apparently to weak to do yourself. No matter, stand aside and I’ll deal with this traitor.”
Katara: What? Why?
Hama: "He tossed me in a cell and was willing that abomination run wild."
Katara: “No! Leave him alone!”
Hama: “What?! You’re protecting him!? Your mother would be ashamed of both of you!”
Katara: “I know you never meant for her to die.”
Hama: “If you will not stand aside then I’ll end you first!”
Hama, Katara, and Sokka have an epic waterbender showdown. One of the sharp icicles fell down on the ground, Hama slipped on the slippery mud, she landed on the sharp icicle, she was stabbed through her heart.
Katara: "NO!"
The icicles melted away, Katara and Sokka rushed to a dying Hama. Katara tried using healing on her.
Hama: That...is useless...for fatal wounds such as these...
Sokka: Then I'm afraid you are beyond aid.
Hama: Death doesn't frighten me. The only thing...that kept me going...was my need for vengeance.
Katara: I'm so sorry...
Hama: (To Sokka) Why would you...forgive him...after all he did to...you?
Sokka: Like I said before. He's not a threat to us anymore. Nothing and no one can change the past, ours or anyone else's. And because a friend of ours recommended it.
Hama: I cannot tell if you...are noble or a fool...(makes a dying exhale and body stopped moving)
Sokka closed his and bowed his head. Katara looked away and clung on to Sokka.
more fic stuff
so i have the ba sing se part of the lu ten fic but i’m thinking about iroh going and telling him he has to get out NOW, like RIGHT, NOW, because the city is about to fall and he will be executed if he’s found. so lu ten takes his husband and her wife and their son (it’s complicated) and meets up with the water tribe in chameleon bay in anticipation of the invasion?? somehow all that gets relayed to him?? and lu ten would admit his true identity and offer himself to hakoda as a prisoner but at that point they’d have to leave fast so he’d just say we’ll figure that out later grab some supplies and help load the ships. or something
anyway saisha & kyorei and the baby are all there tho they’re very like. sits squished on a couch awkwardly. but lu ten helps them to successfully capture the ship they have in the awakening and gets them information that helps them from being discovered, so he becomes part of their intelligence. kyorei keeps his distance but saisha immediately is like oh i can help patch up armor :) and ravi becomes EVERYONES FAVORITE PERFECT LITTLE BOY!!!!! and they stay with the fleet until the invasion but then lu ten nervously asks to speak to hakoda to tell him he can’t join the rest of them on the invasion but before he gets it out hakoda is like listen. i don’t think you should come with us. and lu ten is like oh fr me too
because 1) he’s a firebender so will be useless 2) he’s their best intelligence asset and they can’t risk losing him and 3) ravi needs him ): not to mention kyorei who is so ptsd’d from battle that if she so much as saw one person firebend at her she would simply die on the spot
so lu ten, saisha, kyorei, and ravi wind up in the fire nation colonies boonies and hakoda says if all goes well, we’ll see you soon
all does not go well ):
in the western air temple when they’re talking about fire nation teachers maybe aang can suggest lu ten but sokka is like no, he told us he doesn’t firebend anymore, and we are NOT putting ravi in danger. and everyone is like oh shit yeah we can’t endanger ravi our best friend ravi
maybe hakoda, haru, teo, and the duke wind up reconnecting with lu ten? what was hakoda doing during the comet. hm
anyway imagine you defeat your dad and become fire lord and then your dead cousin shows up like ZUZU MY GUY
Yet another Azula AU
Since @tamerlan-pahlavi mentioned the idea of an arranged marriage between Azula and Lu Ten on one of my other posts, I thought I would expand on it here. Or at least how I think it would work.
It starts, of course, with Azulon's typical interest in eugenics - he notices at some point when Azula is still a young child (probably when she firebends very early) that she is a powerful bender, and promptly decides that he was "successful" in his very dubious experiment. However, he still has two problems - one, Azula is a girl, and two, she's Ozai's child. Both of which can be solved by him melding the empowered bloodline with the one he actually cares about. And they're cousins... incestuous arranged marriages aren't uncommon in royalty, after all.
(Exit "vile old man voice.")
So he immediately forces Ozai and Ursa to start preparing Azula to be married to her much older cousin when she's of the correct age, and does the same with Iroh and Lu Ten. Reactions vary - Ozai is seething, Ursa and Iroh are uncertain but see the arrangement as a way to potentially help Azula (who they see as "too headstrong" in a way) and Lu Ten is just... well, he doesn't know what he's going to do. The upshot of all this is that there are a lot of people involved in Azula's life telling her what to do - and she's Azula, so she believes it.
For plot purposes, I'd do the classic "Iroh dies and not Lu Ten" thing here, and Azulon would either off Ozai directly or maybe just make it very clear that if he steps out of line he's gone. So when Aang gets pulled out of the ghetto cryptosleep casket, Azulon is still the Fire Lord and Lu Ten is Crown Prince. Zuko is now in a love-hate relationship (not romantic) with Ozai as they both have dangerous ambitions, while Azula loves her father but is aware of his wish to usurp Lu Ten- and she has a sense of duty (and likes her cousin, though maybe not in that way, maybe I'll feel better about this when I'm a woman?) which makes things even more complicated. And Ursa, of course, is still there as well... and since Lu Ten is around to keep things on an even-ish keel Zuko is never exiled, and so the Fire Nation Royal Palace remains a hotbed of silently seething insanity. (No wonder Mai and Ty Lee left.)
Fast forward to the Siege of the North - Lu Ten hears of Zhao's plan, swiftly knocks him down a peg, and takes charge himself. Azula, 14, jumps at the chance to go with him - Lu Ten is nice, and he's not trying to convince her to commit treason or be a ladylike lady. So going to the North Pole and fighting Water Tribe barbarians sounds like a great thing for a loyal future wife to do, right?
The Gaang are extremely surprised - and a little shaken - when the evil Crown Prince turns out to have a kid their age defending him with her life. This is nothing compared to the surprise they get when she allows herself to be captured so he can escape - and the first thing she says to Sokka when he tries to interrogate her is that she is Princess Azula, future wife of Crown Prince Lu Ten.
(And then the true insanity spiral begins.)
My Moon
Zuko x reader
Soulmate AU
genre: angst but with a good ending
warning: death, sickness
summary: Every Fire Nation citizen gets a tattoo on their wrist when they turn sixteen. This tattoo shows the first words your soulmate will say to you. Some people find this person immediately, and spend the rest of their lives together. Some people never get the chance.
_
"Why do you keep that ribbon on your wrist?"
Zuko clenched his fists by his sides, exhaling a breath of fire in frustration. Sozin's Comet was in three days, and this was the fourth time Aang has stopped training to ask a question that had nothing to do with firebending.
"Aang," Zuko said impatiently, "Stop avoiding training."
"But I want to know!" Aang clasped his hands together. "That's where your soulmate's first words are, right? Why are they covered?"
Zuko groaned. "Because I don't have time for a soulmate. I was too focused on finding you, and now I need to focus on defeating my father."
"So you've never looked at it!?" Aang's eyes widened before he lunged forward. "Let me see! Let me see!"
"Wha- Aang!" Zuko yelled, trying to pry the airbender off of him as he stretched his right arm out of his reach. "Get off!"
"I want to know what your words are!"
"Why are you interested in my love life!?"
"Because I would kill to have what you have and you don't appreciate it!"
"Don't appreciate what?" Sokka asked, popping a grape into his mouth as he walked up to the hill where the two were sparring.
"Sokka!" Aang shouted. "Take Zuko's ribbon off!"
"Ooh, I love annoying Zuko!" Sokka said gleefully, grabbing Zuko's wrist and ripping the black fabric off. "Uh, why am I annoying Zuko?"
"Because Zuko's never looked at his soulmate tattoo!" Aang snatched a frozen Zuko's wrist and read it. "I want the last thing I see to be the moon," he read.
"Poetic." Sokka nodded approvingly. "I like them already, they like staring at my first girlfriend!"
Zuko blinked. "Wait, hold on- your first girlfriend actually turned into the moon? Like literally?"
That was a year ago. Zuko was Fire Lord now. Currently, he was headed to a secluded cliff he had found the day before to meditate. There was a sickness going around, and although it wasn't contagious, Iroh hadn't wanted him to be in a populated area. So, he was going to be alone away from other people.
Or so he thought.
He halted as he entered the clearing to the cliff. There was a person- you -lying down in the grass, staring at the moon. Remembering his tattoo, a spark of hope lit in his chest. He was Fire Lord. The war was over. It would be safe to fall in love. Maybe this was his soul mate.
His hope quickly turned to dread as he got closer. They had the sickness. Judging from their skin and frailty, they probably didn't even have an hour left.
Still, even if they aren't his soulmate, Zuko wasn't about to let anybody die alone.
"Uh, it's pretty cold out," he said as he got closer, and visibly winced. It wasn't cold. It was the middle of summer in the Fire Nation.
You shrugged, not having the strength to sit up to see who your soulmate was.. "I want the last thing I see to be the moon."
Zuko's breath hitched. "No," he whispered.
You chuckled bitterly. "We finally meet, and I'll be dead by morning. Sounds about right." you paused. "You can go, if you want. I don't want you to have to see this."
"I'm not letting my soulmate die alone," Zuko said determinedly, his legs shaking, and laid down beside you. You looked at him, and raised your eyebrows in shock as you recognized him.
"Well, look at that! If I hadn't gotten this cough, I would've been the queen!" you joked. "Nice to meet you, Fire Lord. I'm Y/N."
Y/N. It was the most beautiful word Zuko had ever heard.
"Just call me Zuko," he replied, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. You two laid there for a few minutes, drinking in each other's appearances. You knew he was handsome, as you'd seen his face plastered all over the Fire Nation for years. First listed as a traitor and most recently, Fire Lord. He was even more handsome up close. His amber eyes had flecks of fire orange in them. And his scar? You thought that it was the most handsome part of all. It showed he'd been through something terrible, and overcame it.
Zuko couldn't believe someone so beautiful could exist. You were gorgeous. Stunning. Even in your frail state, your complexion blemished from the sickness, your cheekbones jutting out sharply, Zuko had never seen anything so divine.
"Y/N?" he whispered, his eyes locked with yours.
"Yes, Zuko?"
He gulped, bringing his other hand to cup your cheek and resting his forehead on yours. "Tell me everything about you."
And so you did.
You told him your childhood. You told him about the first time you broke a bone. You told him how you felt when your father died. You told him that your favorite food is Roast Duck. You told him that you always planned on naming your daughter Izumi. You told him how you donated everything you owned to the Ursa Medical Center that Zuko had recently set up. You told him how excited you were whenever you heard that the Avatar had returned, because finally there would be peace.
"I was so happy that it was you who became Fire Lord and not somebody else." You had your head on his chest at this point, his legs tangled with yours.
"Why?" Zuko's fingers were running through your sweat-soaked hair, the wetness not registering.
"Because," you hummed, "You betrayed the Fire Nation to help the Avatar. You were willing to leave everything you'd ever known to bring peace." you paused, tilting your chin so you could look at him. "Plus, you're pretty cute, too."
Zuko blushed as the corners of his mouth turned upwards. "You think I'm cute? Have you seen yourself?"
You chuckled weakly. "Yeah, I'm a real dime piece right now." Zuko's hand stilled. He leaned up on one elbow so he could look down on you.
"Y/N," he said seriously, "You are incandescently beautiful. You are oh so pulchritudinous. You are the most stunning of all of God's creations."
You smiled at him. If your body could produce enough water for it, tears would be running down your face. "Thank you," you whispered. As Zuko laid back down, you spoke again. "Now, tell me everything about you."
So he did. He told you about his mother. He told you about being banished. He told you how it was trying to capture the Avatar. He told you about his time in Ba Sing Se. He told you about his uncle. He told you about being friends with the Avatar, and joining their group. He told you what it was like to face Azula. He told you about how Aang and Sokka had ripped off the ribbon, which you both shared a laugh at.
He sighed. "I wish we had more time," he choked out. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I know I just met you, but I can't imagine living without you."
"Well, that's the thing about soulmates," you replied, running your hand through his hair and bringing his head down to yours until your lips were centimetres apart. "We'll never truly be apart."
And then Zuko was kissing you. He was kissing your lips and your nose and your cheeks and your forehead and your eyebrows and back to your lips. He was kissing you as though he thought that if he kissed you enough, he could save you. He was kissing you as if it would be the last kiss you would ever share, which was likely.
You were the one to break the kiss, as you were losing breath. You could feel it coming, and Zuko could, too. "I- I don't know what to do," he whimpered, holding you closer. "We've only known each other for an hour. We should be able to have a life together, to grow old together. It isn't fair!"
"Shh, Zuko," you hummed into the hollow of his neck. "We'll see each other again, my love. And whenever you miss me, just look at the moon. This," you pulled back and gestured to the moon above, "Is our moon. Forever." You laid your head back on his chest, and your voice was barely above a whisper when you next spoke. "Can you sing me to sleep?"
Zuko's heart was breaking, but he couldn't say no. "Of course," he hiccuped, choking back a sob, before he began singing a song his mother used to sing him.
“Deep in the meadow, under the willow A bed of grass, a soft green pillow Lay down your head, and close your sleepy eyes And when again they open, the sun will rise.
Here it's safe, here it's warm Here the daisies guard you from every harm Here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true Here is the place where I love you.
Deep in the meadow, hidden far away A cloak of leaves, A moonbeam ray, Forget your woes and let your troubles lay And when again it's morning, they'll wash away.
Here it's safe, here it's warm Here the daisies guard you from every harm Here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true Here is the place where I love you.”
As he finished the song, his heart stopped. You weren't breathing. Agony, the worst pain he’d ever felt, ripped through his chest. An inhuman scream erupted from his throat as he pulled your body into him, his tears falling. He'd just met you, and yet you had become his world. And you were gone.
He stayed there the entire night until Iroh found him the next morning, still clutching your ice-cold corpse. Iroh's heart snapped, immediately knowing what must have happened. It took hours to pry Zuko away from you. He spent the next week crying into Iroh's shoulder. "I don't think she heard me tell her I love her, Uncle," he sputtered before another sob wracked his shoulders.
"She knew," Iroh assured him. "I promise. She knew."
He arranged a funeral for you that was fit for a Fire Queen, and had you buried on the cliff where you had met.
_
Fire Lord Zuko's reign lasted sixty-seven years. After much pressure from his advisors about an heir, he did end up taking a wife. Her name was Mikoto, from a noble Fire Nation family. Her soulmate had died as well, so it was a perfect fit. They both knew they could never love another, but they were best friends.
They had a daughter, who Zuko named Izumi. He was still alive whenever she took over as Fire Lord, and he'd never been more proud of anything or anyone.
And yet, he still missed you. He thought about you every day, and every night he would sit and stare at the moon. Sometimes he would cry, thinking about what could have been. Other times he would be happy, telling you about Izumi's accomplishments. He would always sleep with the window open, so that the last thing he saw before he went to sleep was your moon.
He died at the age of one hundred in his sleep, his face still turned towards the moon.
_
Zuko's eyes opened to find himself in the Spirit World face to face with Iroh himself.
"Uncle!" he cried, wrapping him into a hug.
"Hello, Zuko!" Iroh said with a smile. "It's nice to see you again!"
"Hey Sifu Hotman, you better give me a hug, too!" Zuko whirled around to see Aang, and his smile widened as he jumped into the Avatar's arms. Stepping back, Zuko noticed that Aang was a lot older than he was.
"Why am I seventeen again?" he asked.
"For the same reason that I am twenty-five," Iroh explained, "The age I was when my son was born. Here, you remain the age you were when you were at your happiest."
"I was happiest when I was twenty-one, when Katara and I got married," Aang explained. "You're seventeen because that's how old you were when you met them."
Zuko froze as he heard footsteps behind him, before whirling around.
"Hello, My Love," you said. You were healthy and in a beautiful red gown. Zuko's breath hitched, his eyes filling with tears. He ran forward to envelop you in a hug.
"I've missed you, too," you chuckled as he peppered your face with kisses. The two of you stared at one another, soaking in each other's appearances yet again. He rested his forehead against yours.
"We can finally spend forever together," he said in what was meant to be a whisper, but he was so elated that it came out as a yell.
"I can't wait," you replied in the same tone.
"I love you." The words Zuko had been wanting to tell you finally left his lips.
"I know," you answered, cupping his cheeks with your hands. "I love you, too."
As the two of you shared another kiss, the full moon above seemed to shine a little brighter.
For the 101 ways to say I love you, how about 51. "You're cold, take my jacket” for Sokkla?
❤️💙 sokkla my beloved
51- “You’re cold, take my jacket.” Sokkla
Azula crossed her arms, her knuckles bone white as she gripped her elbows. Damn this place.
She grit her teeth as she followed after her brother, trying to keep her chin up and look like the poised, graceful princess that she was. But damn it was so cold here.
She felt something warm fall onto her shoulders, and she glanced up in surprise at the figure that loomed over her. None other than the chief-in-training.
He raised an eyebrow at her as she simply stared. He slowly stated, “I can tell you’re cold, so take my jacket.”
Azula was tempted to spit at him that fire benders didn’t care about the cold, but another gust of wind had her teeth chattering. So instead she clutched the fur coat closer and swallowed her pride.
“Thank you, Sokka.”
He grinned at her, “No insults today?”
“Maybe once I’ve warmed up.” She smiled despite herself.
The Fire Lord looked back towards them and glared, “Stop flirting and let’s go. I want to get out of the snow.”
Azula felt her face redden. “I am not—”
“You ruin all the fun, Zuko!” Sokka interrupted her, giving her a wink before he caught up to her brother and threw an arm around him, messing up his perfectly-styled hair.
She watched him, quite stunned. Had he just admitted that he had been flirting with her?
Scoffing, Azula shook her head. No matter if he was or wasn’t— although who wouldn’t! She was beautiful, of course men flirted with her.
(At least that’s what she told herself. The truth was she could count the men that had flirted with her on one hand.)
She admired his broad shoulders and goofy grin. His eyes were kind but intelligent— both things she knew to be true about Sokka. She wondered…
And no she was not sniffing his coat. That would be absurd.
Finally, they approached Sokka’s house. She didn’t really want to take his coat off, but the roaring fireplace was making it quite warm.
As she hung up the coat, Zuko hissed in her ear, “Would you knock off the oogly eyes? It’s gross. We’re here on business only.”
Azula scoffed, “Shut up, Zuzu. I’m not oogling anything.”
He only narrowed his eyes at her as they sat down at the table where Sokka was already situated. He pushed tea towards them as he spoke, “It’s a shame Mai couldn’t join us.”
Zuko shrugged, “I don’t want her traveling when the baby is due so soon.”
“Makes sense.” Sokka’s eyes slid over to Azula. “And at least I was graced with the presence of your sister.”
The statement made her blush, and it made Zuko gag.
Without further ado, Zuko got out his scrolls so they could get down to politics. He had a pregnant wife to get back to as soon as possible.
But Azula was distracted, her eyes kept focusing on Sokka’s hands, or his throat, or his large biceps. And he was looking at her, too.
She did her best to ignore his gaze, but every time their eyes met she felt a shock run down her spine.
“Agni above. Do I need to leave?!”
Zuko’s shout broke them out of their trance.
Azula flushed and growled, “Do you want to die? Nothing’s going on.”
“I wouldn’t say that.” Sokka smirked, leaning his elbow on the table as he put his chin in his hand. Why was that pose so attractive?
Zuko quickly shoved his things back into his bag. “I’m gonna go find your father instead. I’m not coming back in here.”
As the door slammed shut behind him, Azula returned her gaze to the hunky water tribe man across from her. A smirk pulled her lips up as she leaned onto the table.
“So… are you all bark and no bite?”
Where you are, there I am - Sokkla Saturdays 2022
Day 4: Sokka dresses Azula
You can also read here & here
Warmth. Comfort. Home.
Igloos were unexpectedly warm. Even though the fire from last night as good as died out. Igloos also looked bigger inside. The decoration made the place comfortable.
This place felt like home. Considering it was her first night in this igloo, it sounded odd to feel comfortable enough to call it home. But it was. It was her home.
And she also knew what the true reason for it was.
His bed… their bed was soft and warm. Probably the most comfortable bed she slept on. The reason for this was the same source. He was next to her. Her husband held her naked body protectively pressed against his exposed chest. His arms were wrapped around her caringly.
Their mouths had only enough space for talking. His eyes were full of adoration for his wife.
She smiled at that, and he smiled back.
“Good morning love.” Sokka said and kissed her lips.
“Good morning.” Azula replied almost shyly.
“Slept well?” he asked.
“Yes. You?”
“Never better. What’s been all the other nights and days when this is how incredible sleeping feels like?”
Azula chuckled at that and kissed him.
“I wonder what time it is.” she tried to find the small window.
“It must be well past morning. Are you hungry?”
Azula nodded “And I think you must be too? Or is it you forgot about your stomach?” she asked playfully.
“Nothing matters next to you. Besides, I only crave you as much.” With that he kissed her passionately. After a time, they both laughed into the kiss.
“I love you Azula!”
“I love you Sokka.”
They sat up on the bed, but Sokka didn’t let go of her. Her arms were wrapped around his neck anyway. After the passion and heart race slowed down, they were very much aware that of their nakedness. A new sensation.
Last night had been great. He tried his best to make it as perfect as possible. And it was, without a doubt perfect. Love and will were needed and nothing more.
He carried her through the bedroom door, and they took a relaxing bath together. After that Sokka carried her back and sat her carefully on the bed. It was tempting to repeat what they did last night again. Especially now that Azula’s skin was smoother and softer. But Sokka, other than giving slight caresses and kisses held back. Which wasn’t easy for him at all. She needed breakfast. And he would show her around his tribe. In the evening they could go back to cuddling naked and lovemaking.
 “What should I wear for your tribe on my first full day here?” Azula asked.
“You brought some warm parkas form the fire nation right?”
“Yes I did.”
Yet he went for the blue parkas with a smirk.
“How about you wear blue today princess? You made me wear lots of red now it’s my turn to make you wear blue isn’t it.”
He kneeled in front of her and put her underwear first. Carefully and slow. Her smirk vanished replaced by a pleasant feeling of his knuckles on her skin. She was also touched of how careful he was with her all the time.
Sokka took his time to dress her fully, except for the parka. No matter how cool he tried to be, a volcano was exploding inside of him. He gave her neck a kiss and inhaled her scent he loved so much.
It was Azula’s turn to help him getting dressed. He put on his underpants and pants himself. Azula helped him with his shirts.
After combing each other’s hair and also giving them presentable looks, they went for breakfast.
The day went by with Sokka showing his wife around and in the afternoon they went for Sokka’s family for dinner.
