i know we love to rag on Siffrin for feeling so miserably guilty and manipulative for the crime of [checks notes] “doing nice things for their friends so that they’ll be happy and care about him even if it’s not perfectly sincere on his end”

but like. in context i don’t think that thought process is anywhere near as nonsensical as it always sounds written out like that

i’m sure i’m just stating the obvious here but it’s not really about the “crime” of making people happy. it’s about what he’s not doing, which is anything that would allow their friends to have any real knowledge or agency over the situation they’re all in.

it’s about never acting according to his real feelings in the moment and letting them see the messier version of him that exists now, never allowing their relationships to evolve or develop meaningfully beyond the “safest” iteration, the thing that is Known and produces the Correct Results, because anything else has the possibility of leading to negative emotions towards Siffrin.

Siffrin knows he’s not really doing all this for their benefit, not entirely, because the “right” thing to do would give them the full context to choose how they feel and what to do about it. they’re happy, but in a way they don’t get to keep. they’re happy, but in a way that keeps Siffrin safe from anything more complex and real. they’re happy, but only because some Siffrin in the past said the right things once, and this new, bitter, lonely, desperate version wouldn’t know how to get the “correct result” without a script to follow. they’re happy, and it was real once, it meant something once, but not anymore.

they cared about that Siffrin, yes, but would they still care about this one, if they knew? if Siffrin ever allowed them to know? (he won’t, he can’t, he refuses.)

and there’s something that could have been said in favor of Siffrin allowing himself this “selfishness” if it made him happy anyway, if it could be a genuine source of comfort in a difficult situation—but it doesn’t! not really! because that guilt is there, because that fear is there, because of how flimsy it all inevitably feels.

so they’re not doing it for their family’s benefit, because that happiness is predicated on lies and ignorance. he’s barely doing it for his own benefit, because they’re torturing themself by revealing things they no longer want to reveal, concealing things they no longer want to conceal, acting out of fear of rejection rather than genuine desire for connection. who benefits from this hollow “kindness,” really?

that’s why the last loop had to be the ugliest one. Siffrin had to see that the worst could happen and there could still be love and connection on the other side. that even when the party sees the worst of him, when they have the agency he’s been knowingly denying them, they will still choose to love him.

I think it is super interesting how Eddie and Ana go on a date and literally the NEXT episode , Buck starts dating again . And ( in the same episode , 4x8 btw ) then when Eddie and Ana are seemingly getting serious ( telling Chris he's dating ) , Buck meets up with Taylor again and then gets with her . They both get into these relationships that turn pretty serious in season 4 practically at the SAME time . This in my opinion is like the start of the Buddie slow burn to be honest , they always date at the same time and are single at the same time , why ? No clue but they are totally normal about each other so dating when the other starts to as well is fucking textbook for them , just two totally normal codependent platonic best friends :)

I need everyone doomsdaying in my inbox to remember that Kat is a journalist and some people are waiting for Ryan to say in an interview that the mustache is gay and that Eddie's in love with Buck and that buddie will be fucking nasty on 804. This is an interview that has been done before the season started airing, Ryan is probably talking about Eddie's identity the same way he has been talking about it the whole time. In my opinion, Kat is trying to get people's expectations back down. Ryan is not gonna confirm to a journalist he grew a beard because he wanted Eddie to have a gay mustache even if that was the case because that would be a major spoiler now that we know the mustache will play a part in Eddie's storyline but some of y'all are expecting it to be the case. The mustache is its own character, avoiding things that will spoil its purpose is definitely the expectation, but Kat knows people who follow her ship buddie and we are a bit too intense at times. Even more considering the fact that all it takes is one tweet from a journalist for everyone to lose their minds. Oliver spent the whole time before 704 talking about Buck redefining his relationship with himself. And now we have bi Buck. Take a breath, have some faith.

Ripley is so convinced she and Percy are the same, she tries the worst methods known to man to get a business partner. What I mean is: she tries razing his home, discussing plans and creations, "freeing" him of loved ones, needling his want for revenge- all things that pushed HER into the path she's on.

She tries to shoot him for real when he (predictably) refuses her one too many times; when he owns to his flaws but chooses differently. She kills him when he decides to move on and show her grace.

It's not just that he let his guard down and she's too hot for jail. She finally recognized they're NOT the same

OH YEA BTW BTW. I got caught up in another fixation so I didn't comment about this the day-of or when I watched it but. The Lunar's apology video!!

And frankly? I don't see anything wrong with this episode actually! This looks really promising and there's even acknowledgments of topics I wasn't sure they'd ever bring up on the show. I still hold a lot of feelings on past episode leading to this point, but I think am overall wildly relieved that this was where we ended up. Lunar could have easily forfeited everything out of shame and stayed in that dingy apartment, not ready to take their mental bandages off yet and start the process of disinfecting the wounds.

But they swallowed their pride and not only initiated the conversation but also admitted they were wrong!! They were just dripping with vulnerability in this episode and ghod don't I know that takes a lot. I must confess I am also terribly excited for their conversation with Eclipse because I feel like, this time around, it will actually be more of a conversation instead of... Lunar talking at Eclipse about how they're not scared of him anymore while Eclipse tries to rile them up.

Because Eclipse is at a place where he has actually changed for the better and because Lunar is at a place where masking doesn't do them good anymore, I feel like they will actually have to both contribute time the conversation instead of it just being like it was last time. I am,,, very hopeful for whatever happens in it, to be quite honest HSJABD

I'll also add that honestly, most of my worries stem from just,,, wondering how this is going to be moving forward. Like, in a more meta sense. Earth had acknowledged that trauma takes a long time to heal, but I worry that process may be sped up for the sake of videos. Not to mention, Earth honestly has every right to be upset at Lunar, like, forever tbh. They did something that is going to affect her for the rest of her life. I'm worried this is gunna be, like,,, a wedge between them for good.

I actually have a lot of thoughts abt how things were and are and will be around this but uhm I have talked so much longer than I intended to so that's all for now. Overall, happy with this direction!!

Decisively, yes. Objectively and canonically. She actively tried to murder her own father in her first appearance. The only reason she didn't kill someone as Robin was sheer dumb luck -- and then she argued afterwards that she was in the right because the dude was a bad guy who threatened her (reposted here to update the image description).

And she'd gone through the same beats again with Cass and the Penguin the month before, also as Robin. The only reason she didn't shoot Black Mask in the face was because of character development that they scaled back immediately after bringing her back from the dead.

It is, I think, important to her character that Steph is more than capable of murder and only hasn't done it yet because of the influence of the Bats. I do think that she's different from say, Damian, in that she's not desensitized to murder -- I think if she ever actually managed to kill somebody she'd be immediately horrified with herself. (See: how she reacted the second her stolen 'violently take control of the criminal underground' plan predictably devolved into a massacre and then a gang war -- the whole narrative core of Steph's War Games arc is her finally Finding Out after years of Fucking Around with a Bat-safety net she's been taking for granted).

Like I said in the linked post -- if Steph had never met Batman, she'd have killed a bitch by now, and it probably would've ended badly for her.

"oh I'm binging the damn gay firefighter show now that it's actually gay, it better be worth it" the worst thing is that they're probably gonna complain in one or two episodes when all we're going to see Buck and Tommy do is share a few kisses, at the most enter the bedroom/wake up in the same bed, but it's not like we're going to have a full on sex scene. 911 has never done this for any of the couple of the show, it'll be really weird if they started just because it's a m/m couple.

Literally, like, even bathena that we know have a wild sex life never had a full blown sex scene, and the kiss was pretty sweet. We don't even know if Buck and Tommy will actually have sex, and if they do it will probably be *kisses at the bottom of the stairs of the loft* *Buck tugs him up the stairs* *maybe shirts come off* *cut to another scene* and then maybe, show them in the bed later. The show doesn't do sex scenes, madney never even had one beyond the *throw shirt on Chimney's face* so like, my expectations about how that type of scene between them is pretty much just them cuddling in Buck's bed "naked" or something. Sure, they could start doing them now, but they didn't with bathena after the cruise, so why would they really, they like to keep the actual visual tame. So the new people will probably be complaining they didn't get what they signed up for when the show is literally not about Buck and he just had a full episode about him and they are probably gonna focus on the rest of the cast after this arc is resolved.

… I like Rukia getting something to do, I like the Kuchiki sibs plus their idiot, I like that she was allowed to hold her own despite this being a 2000s shonen manga, you know what I mean. Like for what it was many of the women in BLEACH made it through fairly well and I like that. I like Rukia being cool, I like her Bankai, I like it.

But at the same time… Like I get why it was her, and I like it, and I don't so much mind as… Well, I just kinda wish that Renji had gotten to kill As Nodt, since he was the one who actually had to watch Byakuya get maimed like that? Like obvi Rukia deserves a shot too, like I said, I understand it being her and I don't mind, I just kinda would… Also like to see a reality where Renji got to do him in.

Not necessarily in canon, bc yes, give Rukia more to do? Like I just want an au where Renji got him. Them. Finish what he tried to start before getting punted.

It's like I like the way it was and I wouldn't actually change it bc we always need more women being able to fight on their own, and I liked what was done. I loved Byakuya just showing up to get his bankai back and then leaving the rest to his sister, I love love love her getting Bankai.

I just. Want to see the version where Renji gets a go at him after having to watch that.

Like I don't want to write it myself, but I want it.
