The Hieronymus Machine
The Hieronymus Machine is a radionics device developed by electrical engineer Thomas Galen Hieronymus in the mid-20th century, embodies the intriguing idea that all matter emits a unique form of energy known as "eloptic energy." This energy, a theorized blend of light and electricity, was central to the machine's operation. The original device featured a sample chamber, a glass prism to refract the energy, and a copper wire probe to detect signals. Operators reportedly experienced a tingling sensation when energy was detected, suggesting the human nervous system played a key role in its function.
Although considered pseudo-science, you can think of the Hieronymus Machine as a metaphor for accessing deeper insights or hidden energies in your creative process.

What kind of things does Patrick Hockstetter have in his room? Like random details?
1989, right?
an old boombox with cassettes scattered nearby, bands like joy division, nine inch nails, some darkwave staples.
it smells faintly of cigarette smoke, motor oil, something metallic, and his aftershave. his room is a mix of clean, minimalist order and chaotic, unsettling touches, like an organized desk but posters with disturbing imagery on the walls (which his religious mother does not approve of).
the walls have dark, dramatic posters. bands like the cure, depeche mode, and bauhaus. maybe a disturbing hieronymus bosch or francis bacon print. a few torn-out magazine pages of supercars or motorcycles taped haphazardly to the wall. a small corkboard with pinned polaroid photos, some of people or places that seem innocuous at first glance, others with cryptic, creepy vibes.
a sleek black desk with a couple of knives and lighters resting casually on the surface.
a well-worn black desk chair, slightly faded.
an unmade bed with dark gray sheets, maybe a faded quilt his mom made that looks out of place.
a few random cigarette packs and lighters scattered on his dresser (this pyromaniac collects lighters).
a collection of odd trinkets: bottle caps, animal skulls, pocket knives, and random screws and bolts from dismantled machines.
a baseball bat leaning against the wall, with the handle taped for grip.
a box of matches from a dinner or dive bar in a small fish bowl.
a beat-up sketchpad tucked into a drawer, filled with disturbing but skillfully drawn images, surreal monsters and dark abstracts.
a few dark flannels and distressed denim pieces hanging nearby, and beat-up sneakers just outside of the closet.
a pair of dark aviators hanging off a hook near the door.
a ripped pair of jeans stuffed into the bottom of the closet with the faint smell of gasoline.
a half-burned candle, wax dripped over an old photograph.
a hidden drawer or box under his bed containing polaroids and playboy magazine tear-outs of salacious images.
a half-empty bottle of something, maybe alcohol or an odd chemical, that he needs to get rid of before his parents find it
a mess of receipts from fast food restaurants, tower records, and derry bowling alley
his combat boots, forgotten by the doorway for him to accidentally trip over later
his landline with the extra long cord to reach his bed for late night calls with the gang or girls
a clock radio he took apart and put back together
a small, random stuffed animal his grandma gave him at birth barely visible under a pillow
crumpled concert tickets on his nightstand, which has random doodles sketched on it in sharpie
re-worn laundry strewn across the floor
a few hemp necklaces and rings spilling out on a bookshelf between spiral notebooks

Flufftober prompt 14: trapped (Hieronymus Bump)
helloooooooooo bump fans its been a while! prompt list here plot: you and bump get stuck in the teachers lounge together and have to wait for someone to come and help you out! Bump is beginning to regret putting spells on the door to prevent students from sneaking in... notes: reader is gn, reader is a witch and works at hexside though its not said what exactly they do or teach, short fic, neither romantic or platonic you guys are just stuck in the same space word count: 782 cws: none
Tumblr media
What was originally a good idea was quickly turning out to be perhaps one of the worst. After students had been sneaking into the teachers lounge, for one reason or another, Hieronymus had decided it would be a brilliant idea to place some sort of spell on the door to keep them out...
And it was brilliant! Until it backfired, leaving the two of you trapped inside the room with seemingly no chance of getting out anytime soon as any attempt to open the door was fruitless. After another failed attempt, the older man leaned against the door and sighed deeply. He'd already notified an outsider of your shared predicament, leaving the outsider as your only really hope of getting out in a timely manner. He pulled his forehead off of the door, and turned to look at you and offered a pitiful smile and a mumbled apology. He shuffled to one of the seats and took it. You decided to do the same, sitting at the opposite side of the table. You lightly drummed your fingers along the edge of the table before glancing at him.
"For what it's worth, the spell did good to keep the students out," You tried to ease the awkwardness in the air. He offered a half hearted snort, turning to you. "To think I thought myself clever for it," He muttered, still clearly miffed about the situation. His expression softened as he fully turned to look at you, a faint smile pulling itself across his mouth. "Though, I appreciate the statement," He smoothed the sleeves of his robe and folded his hands on the table.
You stopped your drumming, and looked around the room. For all the times you were in here you never really took note of the things inside of it, not including the fridge and vending machine... and of course, the coffee pot that had always seemed to come in clutch during exam weeks. You rolled your eyes at the sight of a pinned note on a board hung up on the wall, you could barely make out the large words from where you sat but it seemed someone was stealing with a food thief. The final bell pulled you back to the present moment, and you wondered for a moment if you'd both be freed before the last of the staff made their way home. You wouldn't need to sleep here on the floor, would you? Your eyes darted to the door, it looked... sturdy, but you could probably blast through it with your magic if you tried hard enough.
Your eyes dart back to Bump, contemplating telling him the idea but you knew in the back of your mind he would shoot it down in an instant. "So did you have any plans this afternoon, I mean before we got stuck," You asked as you lazily gestured your hand in the air before letting it fall. The entire action felt off and did nothing to ease the air. He took a moment before answering, "I just needed to go over some papers... then go home,"
"Makes sense,"
"What about you? I doubt getting stuck in a room was in your plans,"
You thought for a moment, similar to how he did. "I was thinking of just going home and laying down, honestly." You offered a shrug. He chuckled, "That sounds nice right about now, hopefully the-"
Suddenly the door began to rattle in its frame, almost as if someone was putting their entire weight into pushing and pulling it. Within seconds it went from simple rattling to nearly breaking- at least, you thought it was about so. When it seemed to hit its peak, it swung open and slammed against the wall before hanging loosely. On the other side stood another staff member, whether or not it was the same one Bump had spoken to earlier through the door you weren't sure.
"It's about time," Hieronymus spoke as he stood up, lightly clapping his hands together before locking his fingers together. You pushed yourself up out of the chair, ignoring the cracks in the wall the impact of the door left behind. Without wasting a second, you and Bump leave the room behind you and step out into the hallway... you pulled the door shut behind you, hiding the cracks to be discovered the next day. You glanced to Bump, who catches your gaze. You both seemed to share a silent understanding, wordlessly agreeing to never cast spells on doors again to avoid something like this happening in the future. And with that, after a quick apology for the predicament, you part ways to go on with your original plans.

Ive managed to find maybe one of the shadiest doctors in the city...
so i needed a psychiatrist, right? add, adhd, who knows, either way my executive function broke and i probably need help.
Wait times are horrible though, so made a bunch of appointments to see what would work fastest, one via a private provider. That one was moved forwards from originally being in september to today.
I need to fully describe this place, it was crazy.
There is only one man working in the entire "practice" and he is the doctor. He is wering nothing under his striped hawai shirt that has only hald the buttons closed, and not even to corresponding holes. He has to tell every patient that comes in and asks for something at the desk that his system is broken and all prescriptions must be printed, no digital.
This combined desk and waiting room is entierely yellowed. no plants, the only decoration a desk lamp with an embroidered landshade that looks stolen from someones grandma and a printout of a stained glass butterfly on the wall. The only reading material is a 12cm thick book called "The 1000 Breeds of Dog".
The carpet is beige and the lights humm persistently.
After being asked to the desk im led by the doctor through two hallways filled with wardrobes (the kind for clothes) and cupboards (the kind for cups, with the cute little windows) filled with paperwork. im told to sit down in an office with one desk and one bookshelf for furniture. The desk chair is held together with literal string. Theres marks on the table were documents must have laid for years while the sun bleached the plastic faux wood veneer around them. Looking around, there is not even a clock. The one calming staple ive seen in every doctors office ive ever been in is missing. It feels Conspicuous.
Looking around, i note a bag of packaged syringes on the floor next to a fax machine plugged into a wall outlet.
Above them hangs a faded print of Hieronymus Bosch's "Garden of earthly delights". All color except for blue and pale yellow have been bleached away.
After an unknown of time passes, the doctor returns to me in the office, we talk for less than 3 minutes, i tell him what diagnosis im seeking, he says its easy, hell send me a link to a test and can get me medication. I dont think i want the medication anymore?
Nodding along, i eventually leave the office for my home, and find that an email adress called "Doctor" has sent me an email containing nothing but an encrypted link with the Subject "ADHD".
I do the test, the second half of the questions are all in third person, asking about "the patient", clearly meant for the doctor to fill out.
I do my best.
I think im gonna go for a second opinion before i take any meds this man prescribes me? Either way, im having an utterly fascinating week, between this, the other thing and the Pagan Nazi i found at my supermarket. Utterly Fascinating

can i hear more about ur doll making??! i think it sounds very cool and would like to see it
Of course!!!! Hieronymus (the name I settled on) will be my first but I am happy to tell you about what I plan to do with him!!!
Read more for CW: doll nudity
So this is the body I have chosen for him! He is a Resinsoul Gang (61 cm or 1/3 scale) in the normal skin tone. The proof photos are in white skin tone, which is pure white by the way. (Sorry the photos are a little blurry, they're the only ones Resinsoul have.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He has the generic face makeup on but I might change that up with some soft pastels and watercolour pencils! It was fairly cheap but it doesn't quite capture my OC. I also plan to give him a slight nose bump to make it look more aqualine! I loved his sculpt because of the larger nose (a lot of ball jointed dolls follow the anime small-featured aesthetic after all) but I plan to change the shape anyway.
For clothes, I have a set on order but I also plan to make some simple pieces with my sewing machine. I've brought him a pair of combat boots, leather trousers, boxers (unfortunately black clothing can stain paler resins), and a choker! I am thinking about getting him a hoodie or a crop top from Etsy. But yeah, I plan to make him a small patch jacket when I get better at sewing!!!
That's what he looks like by the way! That is quite old art but I will be adding more soon. (My sketchbook is at home right now) He is one of my older OCs and is the brother of Amber and Atticus. All three are kind of in seperate universes now but ignore that lmao.
But yeah! Please let me know if you have any questions about the actual doll making process, the hobby in general, or ways to get dolls legitimately! I'm happy to talk about this at any time as it has been a long term dream of mine (and hyperfixation) to make one. I've been planning this for years XD

Elton John - Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy (DJM UK/MCA US, 1975) - Concept and art direction by Bernie Taupin and David Larkham, design and illustration by Alan Aldridge and Harry Willock, lettering assistance by Geoff Halpin
Aldridge was inspired by Hieronymus Bosch's The Garden of Earthly Delights when he illustrated this. Interestingly it was made into a pinball machine by Bally. Might need to track that one down at some point.

New Turtle Club Newsletter: OMG MATT FRACTION IS WRITING BATMAN
The big news analysis, on the DC mania coming out of Comics Pro, lurks down below. But a few housekeeping items before we get to my delirious reaction to Matt Fraction writing Batman and one other little tidbit of news from the retailer expo you might’ve missed. So, Marvel announced what their Gwen Stacy returns from the dead story is going to be and it is both much sillier and probably much…
