A 4-minute animation I completed in 1 month for a gallery exhibition. Obviously, a lot I would fix and do different, but I’m happy with my work ethic to get this done in time.
Done as a dramatization of me and a couple friends that went on a 20+ -mile, 11-hour hike around the perimeter of Horn Island as part of an annual trip my school hosted. This was the final official trip before the school closed (RIP) but I’m glad I did it.
I still haven’t developed the photos from that.

summary: Out with a group of friends for dinner Chris & Matt can’t seem to keep their hands to himself.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
‘To this day, his identity remains unknown. Leaving everyone wondering what he's doing and where he Is now… ’
I finish my makeup and turn off the TV. I look back to see Matt, Chris, and Nick staring at the screen with horror. “What the fuck was that?” Nick screams as he points at the TV. “You guys didn’t want to wait outside while I got ready.” I put my hands up in defense. “You fucking psychopath, why do you watch that while you get ready!”
“Stop being so dramatic.” I roll my eyes at Matt. “Okay we have to leave now the restaurant is 20 minutes away.” We all grab our stuff and head to the car. I stay behind to switch my earrings, when I get the idea to scare the triplets. I follow behind Matt without him noticing me. I hide behind the truck until they’re all in the car.
Matt honks the car horn. “Y/N! Hurry up!” I slowly make my way to the front and jump up and scare them. “What the fuck!” Matt screams. “Y/N!” Nick has his hand over his heart. I get in the car and start laughing with Chris. He’s trying to act as if I didn’t scare him. “You’re a fucking idiot.”
20 minutes later
Chris holds the door open for me as I step inside. “They’re at the table in the corner.” Nick says as he looks up from his phone. We all follow behind Nick trying not to get in anyone’s way. I see madison’s beautiful face and give her a little wave. We put our stuff in our seats and say hi to everyone.
“Hi baby you look so pretty!” I’ve only known Madison for about a year but there’s something about her that makes it feel like i’ve known her my whole life. “Thank you! Your dress compliments you so well.” I shake hands with her boyfriend and introduce myself. Few minutes later we see our other friends Luna, and Grayson. I’m sitting between Chris and Matt while Nick is sitting in front of us with Madison and her boyfriend.
I look over at Luna,who’s next to Matt, and say hi to her. I fake smile at Grayson. We used to date, but being tied down to one girl wasn’t enough for him. “Are you okay with him being here?” I break out of my gaze and look at Matt. “It’s fine,Matt we’re all friends.” I smile at him.
Everyone is looking at the menu, figuring out what they are going to order. The waiter comes to our table and we make eye contact. Fuck me. He has green eyes and dark brown hair. “Hi guys my name is Alex i’ll be taking care of you tonight.”
“Please do.” I whisper to myself. Matt looks at me and hits my shoulder. “Shut up.” Everyone orders their drinks and I go last. “What can I get for you beautiful?” I blush at the name and order a Long Island iced tea. I feel Chris’s hand squeeze my thigh as he notices me looking at the waiter for a beat too long.
“What?” I whisper to him as the waiter leaves. “Stop looking at him like that.” I give him a confused face. As I was about to say something, Nick asked me a question. “Can we sleep at your house today?” Completely forgetting it’s Friday, we have never missed a weekend sleepover. “Fine but you guys aren’t going to take up my bed like last time.” I hear Matt laugh as he remembers I woke up on the floor once.
35 minutes later
I see Chris's hand on the table. I focus specifically on his middle and ring finger. Everyone is too distracted in their conversations to notice I’m just daydreaming.
‘Keep touching yourself like that. Show me how bad you want to get off.’ I whine as I feel Chris thrust into me. I shut my eyes and hear Matt say, ‘Did we say you could close your eyes?’ I whine and shake my head no. ‘Open your eyes then, sweetheart. Look at Chris while he fucks you.’ I open my eyes and try my hardest to keep eye contact. ‘Such a good, obedient girl.’
I snap out of my daydream when I hear Matt whisper, “Are you okay?” I look at him, and he looks down at my thighs. I didn’t realize I was pushing them together to relieve the tension I had built with my daydream. My eyes widened, hoping he hadn’t noticed. “Yeah, why?”
He puts his hand on my thigh, and I tense up. “What were you thinking about?” I’m not sure if he knows or if he’s genuinely wondering. “I- nothing. Pay attention, Grayson is telling a story.” I turn to Grayson, but I’m too caught up in my mind to care what he says.
“I see what you’re doing, you know.” I look down, and his hand is placed on my upper thigh. I turn to him. “Matt, we’re in public,” I whisper. He leans in. “Tell me to stop then.” my breath hitches. “Pay attention to Grayson.” I just nod as I feel his fingers exploring between my legs.
I bite my lip when I feel him reach my underwear. “Lace?” I hear him ask. I nod, trying to pay attention to Grayson, who’s next to Chris. “Dirty girl.” I bite back a smile. I let out a soft groan when he touches my clothed clit. Chris turns around, and his eyebrows are furrowed. “Why’d you do that?” I come up with something quick. “I accidentally stepped on my toe with my heel.” I look into his eyes, hoping he will believe me. He just nodded and turned over.
Matt pulls my underwear to the side, and his finger explores my dripping wet cunt. “Fuck. what were you thinking about, sweetheart?” I debate on telling him. Matt, Chris, and I have never done anything sexual with each other nor talked about it. So, all this is new to us, but I hope this isn’t the last time.
I pull out my phone and type, ‘Thinking about you and Chris fucking me.’ I’m not usually this bold, but I have alcohol in my system. I show him the phone under the table, and the second he reads it, he inserts a finger inside me. Without thinking, I grab Chris’s shoulder and squeeze it. “Oh my fuck” I attempt to whisper but fail.
“You good?” Chris asks, concerned. I nod and say mhm. He receives a text, and he turns his full attention to me. He wastes no time putting his hand on my upper thigh. I want to stop for the sole reason of us getting caught, but a sick part of me is turned on by the idea. I gasp loudly when I feel Chris’s hand on my clit.
Madison looks at me. “What happened?” Matt and Chris put on a face that lacks real genuine concern. “I can feel my calf cramping.” I say the first thing that comes to mind. As i’m looking at Madison she’s completely oblivious to what’s going on. “Those are the worst!” I groan again trying to cover it with a cough.
Matt’s fingers are going in and out of me at such a fast pace. “I can feel you’re about to cum, y/n.” I nod my head. Everyone looks up as the waiter brings our food. I see Chris smirk and turn to us. “Look at the waiter who was flirting with you while you cum.”
“What!” I whisper yell. “Do it, or we won’t let you,” Matt whispers. “The Chicken Alfredo?” The waiter looks at me and winks. “Th-thank you.” I start stuttering as I feel their fingers moving at a faster pace. The waiter furrowed his eyebrows for a quick second. I bite my lip; I feel the knot in my stomach growing. I grab Chris’s thigh, trying to stop myself from moaning out loud.
“Look at him, y/n,” Matt says with a stern voice. I look at the waiter, and Chris looks back to ensure I’m looking. I can’t hold it anymore the euphoric feeling taking over my body. My legs are shaking. My hand is covering my mouth as I try not to make a sound.
A soft moan escapes my mouth, but thankfully, Nick drops his fork at the same time so no one hears. Their fingers slow down, helping me ride out my high. “Such a good girl,” Matt whispers in my ear. I tried to steady my breathing and saw Chris licking his fingers clean.
“Eat up,sweetheart.” Chris says.
The dough you were gently folding baker’s chocolate into was cool against your fingers, your hands working the dough on the island counter in Frankie’s kitchen. He had run up to shower, but you suspected he wanted to tidy things upstairs as well before you ventured up to that part of the house later.
His house was cute, settled into a neighborhood on the cusp of what considered midtown for the city. It was a good twenty-minute drive with early afternoon traffic, surely it would be longer in the evenings when he normally took the route back home. It was a two-story home, a guest room downstairs tucked into the back, a half-bath / laundry room, with a semi open kitchen and living room layout. You assumed the remaining two rooms were upstairs and a full bathroom or two.
The colors of the house were muted, nothing too bold or bright. A lot of warm shades that you could see Frankie picking the precise shade of in order to paint his home. He had been here the entirety of his daughter’s life, having taken out a loan with the help of the Army when he had discovered he was to be a father. He mentioned that Lucy had only been here the last half of her pregnancy and then a few months after giving birth, making her exit before she had made a home here.
The thought both broke your heart and brought you a sense of comfort.
Warm hands wrapped around your middle, the soft padding of bare feet on the tile alerting you to your company. You hummed as you felt Frankie rest his forehead on the back of your neck, leaning down over you a bit to do so. His mouth placed chaste kisses to the top of your spine, sprinkling them over the skull with horns that decorated the skin there. His hands spanned wide as he stretched out his palms underneath your baggy shirt, the shorts you were wearing soft and the waistband no longer tight on your body. His pinkies delved underneath the band, igniting sparks of warmth and pleasure in you that had you arching back into him.
Nipping your skin before pulling away, he spoke quietly in your ear.
“You look really good in my kitchen, sweet girl.”
Your hands stopped working the dough in front of you, concentration and thoughts broken as he moved his hands lower to palm at the front of your hips, right over where he could feel a scar he hadn’t thought much of until your history had been revealed to him. His hands had dipped below the fabric of your underwear. It was mostly hidden within the petals of a detailed chrysanthemum, the piece spanning from the front of your hip, the entire side of it, and the outer most edges of your ass. It was mirrored on the other hip, the piece you had been showing off to the bartender back when Taylor had been visiting.
“Frankie, these have to get in the oven or we won’t have any desert.”
“I’ve got my desert right here,” His right hand moved to tease your slit, feeling how wet you had gotten in just the few moments he had been in the room with you. You moaned as he dipped two fingers in, sliding them along your seam, teasing at your entrance. “Seems like there’s plenty for me to have a good taste. You’re absolutely dripping for me.”
Your hands gripped the edge of the island counter as he rubbed slow circles on your clit, eliciting a needy moan from you. The pads of his fingers were deliciously rough, and he knew you loved the way his hands felt on your skin. Your head fell back to rest on his shoulder, his mouth coming down to whisper in your ear.
“Finish traying up the cookies.” His tone had shifted, he was telling you, not asking. It was something he hadn’t done yet, taking control of the situation completely. Mostly he had just been willing to be a part of what you two shared, not taking command but the sight of you in his house, in his space, in his shirt. It was doing something to him. He continued to rub slow circles on the throbbing bundle of nerves, his own hips flush with your backside now. You could feel the hard line of him through the thin shorts he had on. You were willing to bet he had forgone underwear.
His other hand rose to palm one of your breasts, fingers finding the bud there and pulling on it. You let out a startled huff that turned into a moan when he pinched it hard.
You nodded, hands releasing their tight grasp on the counter and moving back to the dough. Frankie bit down on side of your neck, his teeth prickling your skin. His hands stopped their intoxicating movements.
“Nu-uh, need a verbal confirmation from you.”
“Y-yes, sir.”
“Hmm, that’s it.” You let out a choked sound when he began to rub at your clit again, with more pressure this time. His tongue swiped hot up the side of your neck, your head bowing over as you tried to concentrate on forming even portions of the dough to place atop the greased tray. When you placed the first one atop the dark metal, Frankie’s hand that had been playing with your breast came down to shuck off your shorts and underwear. They fell to the floor and you quickly stepped out of them.
“Spread your legs for me, be a good girl for me.”
“Yes, sir.” As you did so his rough fingers didn’t stop steadily moving against your clit, and you could feel slick begin to trail down the inside of your thighs. You nearly dropped the next portion of dough when you heard the hush of his own shorts falling to the floor. There was a deep groan that rumbled behind you when you felt yourself flutter at the implications, a couple of drops of your arousal leaking down onto the discarded fabric at your feet.
“Fuck, you’re such a good girl. Showing me how excited you are for me, aren’t you? You’re drippin’ all over my kitchen floor, querida.” You let out a stuttered gasp as his hand not working you swiped through your folds and collected some of the slick. Your knees nearly buckled when you heard him suck on those same fingers, a dirty moan falling from him at the taste. Surely, he could feel the throbbing of your clit underneath his fingers still connected to you.
“Is your leg strong enough for me to fuck you up against this counter, baby girl?” He asked, as he gripped his hard length tight and brough it to rest between your cheeks. He didn’t move, just laid it there for you to feel the hot, long line of him. He was waiting for an answer.
“Yes, please. Sir, I need you.” Your voice was a whine, you didn’t care. You had just had him, twice at your place before the store. Your body had been humming the entire time you watched as Frankie had taken his time picking out a good cut of steaks from the butcher, the best brussels he could find in the produce section, the best potatoes for the sides. Watched in simmering anticipation as he had debated between heavy whipping cream and what kind of sauce he wanted to make for the meal. It had been intoxicating, being that domestic with the tall, broad man like that. To see him out in public, to be out in public with him.
Women had been watching him, looking him up and down to take in the way his faded jeans and simple t-shirt had fit him. The movement of his biceps against the taut fabric of his sleeves, the way his butt looked simply divine behind the pockets of his pants. The hat that had tamped down over his curls, the longer strands reached out from underneath it and begged for hands to run through. His hands had kept coming back to you then, simple guiding touches to the small of your back. A gentle caress up and down your arm as you waited for him to decide what would be best out of what he needed.
When you had stumbled a bit at a rather sharp pull on your stitches, still present and heavily bandaged, he had bent down right there in the middle of the aisle and placed a chaste kiss to the top of them, his hands skimming your legs in careful reverence. He had to have known the trembles of your nerves had been from him kneeling down in front of you, not from the pain. He had looked up at you, to see the deep flush on your neck and the hungry look in your eyes before he stood and you had to knock your head back to continue staring at him. He had brought a hand up to nudge at his bottom lip, his tongue peaking out to wet it.
He had moved in closer to you, caging you against the handle of the cart you had been pushing for extra support. You were sure had had been about to swoop down and capture your own lips with his as someone cleared their throat and said excuse me before reaching for something directly where you were both standing. Your eyes broke away from his to offer a small apology to the stranger and you whipped around to move the cart carefully out of the way and down the aisle. You caught a woman’s eyes as you passed her, her own face pink as she gripped a can of something tight in her hands. You could feel her eyes on you as you felt Frankie’s hand rest on you to help you continue throughout the store and to the checkout lane.
You had liked it, you had liked the charge in the air as you shopped alongside him. Had been seen with him, the intensity with which had nearly taken over you both. Heat pooled in your middle, expanding out in pleasured tingles down your legs now and up into your chest as you felt Frankie begin to rut against the seam of you. His length parted you, swiping between your folds and you could feel how he throbbed and twitched as he reveled in how wet you were.
“Fuck, sweet girl, you’re always so good for me.”
“Only for you, sir, anything for you.”
“Would you have let me take you in that store? While all those silly, jealous women watched? All those watching, dirty men palming themselves to the sight of you taking my cock in the middle of that aisle, pressed up against the shelves?” The tip of him caught on your entrance, and he pushed in, shallowly thrusting. He wasn’t giving you all of him, just teasing you open a little, waiting on an answer.
“Fuck, Frankie, yes.”
He bottomed out in one thrust. You choked out a moan, voice high and euphoric. You both stilled, taking in the stretch of him filling you up so completely. Your hands moved to tray up a few more portions of dough, his command still floating around your mind distantly. Little pants that dissolved to whimpers when he would twitch that deep inside you had him reaching his hands around to rest on the lip of the counter, caging you in a way that made your heartbeat thud hard in your chest.
“Fuck, sweet girl, you make the best sounds for me.”
“Please. Please move, sir.” You begged, not caring how high your voice was, you were practically keening for him. You were clenching around him hard, you could feel the slickness of your combined arousal where you were both connected and how it was sneaking down between your thighs in a wet trail. You don’t think you’ve ever gotten this wet with anyone before. Your mind was humming his name on repeat like a prayer.
Frankie. Frankie. Frankie.
He didn’t move, his knuckles white on the edge of the counter beside you.
“Finish the cookies, be a good girl.”
You hurriedly balled up the last bit of dough into portions and nearly threw them onto the tray in front of you. They weren’t as evenly spaced as the others, and Frankie tutted behind you, his mouth coming down to whisper in your ear that you could do better. You hastily fixed the spacing and arched your back, shimmying your hips back to urge him into moving. You moved your hips in a circular motion, leaning heavily on your arms as you braced yourself on the clear counter space now in front of you. Your shirt was lifted up and off, your chest meeting the coolness of the marble beneath you. Your nipples hardened at the sensation, goosebumps sprouted along your back.
“Fransisco, please.”
“Oh fuck.”
He pulled out a bit only to slam back in and grind his hips into you, mimicking your earlier circular motions. His head caught that ridged spot deep inside you and you melted onto the counter even more, keening whines pushed through your chest as your breath escaped in pants. He was moving against you in hard, deep movements, moving just fast enough to stoke the rapidly approaching orgasm that was low in your belly.
The kitchen filled with the needy sounds you were making, the wet sounds of Frankie moving against you, and the unfiltered moans the man was letting out as he moved to press a hand lightly to your back and press you down into the counter. The other hand came to hold your hip, gripping tight, his fingers grazing the scar there underneath your tattoo. His eyes racked over you decorated back, and leaned down to place sucking kisses along every inch he could reach.
Your orgasm hit you so hard you felt the air rush out of your lungs in a shout, startling you with how it was suddenly sending waves of pleasure over your heated skin. You looked over your shoulder and reveled in the sight of Frankie still pounding into you, leading you through the whole thing, thrusting just as hard and deep to chase his own despite how tightly you were clenching around him. You whined when he pushed you down with a little more force. Though he brought his eyes to meet yours, his brow furrowed and sweat dampening the curls on his forehead, his plush lips were parted as he panted. God, he looked so good and he was yours.
His eyes turned hazy and he frantically asked you where you wanted him, his hips faltering as his own pleasure heightened and was about to snap.
“Where, sweet girl, where?”
“Inside, please, sir, inside!” You whined, wanting to feel him, all of him. You fluttered around his cock at the mere thought of him filling you up. He grunted at the sensation, it was throwing him over the edge he was already so very close to.
“Fuck, okay, be a good girl and take it all for me, okay?” He slammed into you completely, bottomed out and his hips were flush with the back of your thighs. His teeth were suddenly digging into your shoulder, the skin pricking where he had broken the skin with his canines. You felt the hot ropes of his release paint your insides and you moaned at the feeling of it. Your eyes fluttered closed as you pushed back onto him, circling your hips to coach out every last drop from him.
When you stood back up to your full height and turned around to face him, your expression was enamoring. You looked so blissed out, lips red from where you had been worrying them with your teeth, cheeks and neck flushed a deep pink underneath the tan of your skin, eyes blown wide and gazing at him as if he hung the moon. Your glasses had been taken off and you gently perched them back atop the bridge of your nose. Frankies arms came around your back to help keep you up, your legs trembling from the pleasure.
His release slowly trailed down the insides of your thighs, making you feel some type of way.
He leaned down and licked away the errant chocolate chips that had melted into the skin of your breasts and chest as he had held you down to the counter. You moaned as his tongue moved hot against your skin, prickling pleasure that was already cascading slowly over you spiked but you were too tired for it to anything beyond that.
-
“What time is your appointment tomorrow?” Frankie finished what he was doing to the plates and brought them over to the table. He had already poured a glass of wine for you each, red, to go with the steak.
“In the morning, they’re going to check on the stitches and my range of movement.” You took a bite of the steak already cut into pieces to show off the middle of it, it was perfectly cooked and placed atop a bed of mashed potatoes and asparagus. A shallot and peppercorn cream sauce was drizzled on top of it, and it looked amazing. You moaned around the bite you had taken, turning surprised eyes to Frankie across the table. He was watching you avidly, his own bite halfway to his mouth.
“That sounded a lot like the way you moan when I’m deep inside you, sweet girl. Any correlation?” He teased, a cheeky smirk displaying the dimple he had on the right side of his face. You swatted your hand at him, turning away to chew the rest of your bite. Your gaze caught the drawings held to the front of the fridge with magnets. They were all so adorable. Very much like the one that was secured to the front of your own fridge back at your apartment.
You didn’t look back at him, feigning that you didn’t hear him and he chuckled at you as he took a sip from his wine glass. You tapped the screen of your phone beside you on the top of the table beside your own. The fork in your hand clattered down as you gasped at the notification that displayed on it.
“Oy dios mío.” You quickly snatched your phone up and walked away from the table, bringing it up to your ear as you did so. Frankie was standing up with you, but you tossed him one of the brightest smiles he had ever seen and waved him back to the table. You were gone, across the threshold and in the living room for a few minutes. Your professional voice wafting into the kitchen and Frankie wondered what had you so excited.
When you came back to the room, you practically skipped over to him and settled in his lap, your arms going around his shoulders as you laid your legs out over him. You peppered his face with little kissed as laughter bubbled up.
“What is it, sweet girl?” Frankie held tight to your back, his other hand coming to rest atop your injured leg so it didn’t jostle at your wiggling.
“I put up flyers around some of the nicer bars of the area and Morgan told all her friends about it. The event I’m having tomorrow, the one with the cocktail and desert pairings? A local food critic emailed me and said she wanted to attend!”
“Cariño, that's...that's incredible! The farmer’s market article and now this? You’re doing such a good job, querida, you deserve all of this.” His plush lips captured yours as he leaned in and his hands tightened their hold on you.
You were giddy throughout the rest of dinner, gushing over the details of tomorrow. His boss had given him tasks to complete around town, collection orders from local places and parts they had to order for certain repairs, so he was going to help you get the last of the stuff you needed as well. After the appointment of course, he was going with you in case they decided to give you a shots of either a muscle relaxer or a painkiller.
The shop was going to be closed during the day due to the event, something you struggled with deciding. But you admitted to him you might be closing it for a few days here and there while you interviewed and hired two more people to help with the influx of business so you could focus solely on the baking yourself.
You both settled on the couch after cleaning up and packing away the leftovers from dinner. Fresh cookies and a scoop of ice cream in a bowl you both shared in front of a cheesy shark movie. Frankie kept trying to point out how the logistics didn’t make any sense and you gasped every time the very obviously not real shark suddenly appeared on the screen, falling for the jump scares so easily it was endearing. You shared sticky kisses throughout the movie.
-
Will was a little late, an apology on his lips as he pressed a greeting kiss to your temple and offered you something that was wrapped in a beautiful display. The sun had already begun to set, the others having arrived at the shop an hour or so ago to help you get everything situated and make sure you were good yourself. The doctor had opted to keep the stitches in another week, something you hadn’t been too excited about. But the rest of your leg had been healing well enough that you no longer had to wrap it, just make sure it got the twice daily spray of antibiotic solution and then scar cream if you felt the need to.
“We all chipped in, got a fresh print from the office and had them do it on a slightly larger scale.”
You noticed his friend behind him, hands cupped in front of him as he waited for an introduction. He was the dad that frequented your shop on Friday’s during the school year, the one who had been with Will the day you had gotten injured at the gym, the one who had asked you out and given you his card…
“Open it, manté!” Benny clapped his hands together, excited to see your reaction to the gift.
Tears pricked at your eyes as you carefully tore the paper along the seams of where it was taped together. You could see the shiny glass of a frame and as you removed the wrapping in one shift, a fresh printing of the farmer’s market article detailing your bakery faced you underneath it. The frame was beautiful, an ornate dark gray one. You rain your fingers over the details of it, blinking back tears as you looked up at the smiling faces around you.
“You guys…”
“Do you love it, or do you love it?” Pope chirped as he hugged you from behind, his hands coming to rest over yours as you still gripped the frame tight.
“You’re gonna make me ruin my makeup.” You warbled as you felt the other three move in to hug you as well, creating a safe haven in all of their arms around you and each other as they celebrated your success. It was a lot. It was so a lot. But you were happy. Here in this new state, with this bakery you always thought had been a pipe dream, with a man who you adored and adored you back, with a group of friends who accepted you into their click as easily as breathing.
You could feel Frankie sneak a hand around one of yours and give it a squeeze.
After waving them all off and rubbing a careful finger underneath your eye, you placed the frame behind the counter for safe keeping. You would decide where to hang it in the shop later. You had Pope play around with the settings of the lights, the exposed bulbs over the small tables already on the warmer side but wanting everything to be just right.
“Hey, I invited Mark here. Hope that was okay, I know you’re a little hesitant around new people but he’s a decent guy. Going through a divorce right now, found his wife with his best friend.” Will approached you, glancing over at Mark who was talking easily with Benny.
“Of course, Will. I don’t mind at all. I made so much extra in case people who didn’t register wanted to drop by or saw the flyers and decided last minute to check it out.” You smiled at him, taking in the way he was wringing his hands together in front of him. “And Lucianna should still be coming, right? Second date?”
“Third, actually.” He rubbed at the back of his head as he looked down at the nice pair of dress boots he had on. He was in clean, dark gray slacks paired with a faded band tee and a black blazer. Very polished and it was a good look on him. “Took her out the other night to that bar you were telling me about, with the empress gin?”
“Exciting!” You swatted lightly at him, glancing over at Frankie across the room. He was behind the counter, messing with something in the display case. He glanced up, maybe he had felt your gaze on him and his lips pulled into a small grin.
“What’s going on with you two? Fish get his head outta his ass yet?” He followed you over to where you had set up a tall bar cart. It was laden with bottles you were going to use tonight to make the cocktails, on the shelves underneath the bar top, you had stacked the various glasses you had ordered for the occasion. Wanting to display the drinks in proper, beautiful glassware. You had mason jars of dried fruits and flowers to use as garnishes on some of the drinks as well.
“He made me a lovely dinner last night, thank you very much.” You tossed the man a soft smile, grateful that he didn’t shout it out and get the others riled up. He leaned in close and spoke softly to you, not wanting to garner any attention.
“He’s a good guy, manté, just a little shy is all.”
You hummed in response, you were about to say something else when the alarm on your phone chirped and the front door opened with a jingle of the bell overhead.
Two couples walked in, smiles all around. Benny easily took their names down and guided them to a table that had a printed and displayed menu of what was offered tonight. People piled into the bakery shop after that in a steady flow. The food critic had brought a friend along, something she had mentioned in her email in order to take photos of the offerings. She had been honest with you and said she wasn’t sure if she would print the event or not quite yet, but you were slightly nervous, nonetheless. Everything had been curated and paired by your own hands, you were worried about how you played with the flavor profiles of things and if they would come across the way you wanted to everyone who had shown interest.
After a moment of everyone getting settled into their small tables and even some at the tall standing tables where the couches and coffee table typically were. You removed the apron you were wearing and handed it to a waiting Frankie, his had held out to take it from you. The removal of it revealed the full view of a gorgeous jade colored dress that was patterned with silver velvet inlay. It had short, flowy sleeves and the hem was long and fell to the tops of your chunky heeled boots. Your hair had been pulled back in a clip, small braids taming some of your curlier pieces of hair. You had small pins that had silver jeweled stars keeping your curtain bangs back from your face.
“Good evening and welcome! I’m so excited to play host to this little pairing event. We’ve got a good number of them to go through and recipes are available upon request should you enjoy any of them enough. Let’s begin with a play on an espresso martini paired with a rich banana bread….”
So. There was a noticeable lack of silence in the beginning of today's Steeplechase episode. For those familiar with my nanofather insane post, you know I'm already on the case faster than Darla Davis.
Episode 35 followed up the rather offputting Krystal with a K intro with the Steeplechase theme song, and then... immediate dialogue, in media res...
Far weirder to me than the silence.
True, Justin could have just gotten over the bit since it'd been three episodes. Maybe the Nanofather truly is gone.
But I don't buy that. Not for a second.
Episode 33 ended with dialogue from Orwell, the gorilla-dactyl. Episode 34 we still had a solid six-second silence, then discussion period before Justin recontextualized them, presumably because Orwell was done speaking.
But 35. There is less than a second of silence. No fucking silence. It's just Orwell. Last episode Orwell was there at the start but he was just ominously staring at them right? Like he wasn't actively conversing with them, there's a precedent.
My current understanding of the nanofather is that he goes through electricity or energy and is specifically more able to inhabit animatronics, as we've seen with Geltfrimpen. When he's in hardlight, he can't really talk, just observe. In the arcade machine he was able to speak a bit, but it was weak and he seemed to be running out of time. In those moments, he is able to interact with the characters.
When the other nanofather intros start he isn't talking to the characters, though, he's talking to the players and audience. When he is talking to us/the players, he's called us spirits, and he seems to have a physical form but it's like... The mechanism is THROUGH the park. He connects to the animatronics and it's a bridge to the characters. There is a secondary function that connects him to us that was taken away when they were put in Kidadelphia. Not necessarily from the characters though. Because he manifests in electricity/animatronics and well... the animatronics of jungle island are FROM Steeplechase originally so he could have inhabited them that way and a part of him still be connected. Remember, he is scattered. He is not in one place, not in one form.
The significance of this episode is that we have further confirmation of the divide in how he interacts with the audience versus the characters. Justin makes a clear point that in Kidadelphia, they are disconnected from the main source of power within Steeplechase. If you connect this to the ways he's spoken with the audience, it makes sense-- we are heard through the "horn" and the walls.
Additionally, if we recall when he inhabited Geltfrimpen, creaky man said he was shattered in several places across the world. That shows that he, as he exists within the universe of Steeplechase, is not bound to the confines of the park (unless "the world" is the park).
TLDR The Nanofather exists in Orwell. He is sort of a spirit within the animatronics, it would seem. Or something close to that. He seems to have reverted back to observing rather than speaking, due to his weakened state.
Either that or Kenchal Denton killed him too hehe
SYDNEY O'HARA - TCM GAME ORIGINAL CHARACTER
"I'm gonna kill that motherfucker for what he did to me, along with the rest of his nutjob family."
Here I present an oc I will probably never use but I wanted to share the character card I made for her because she is pretty neat. Tough as nails, Sydney has seen the world, but nothing prepares her for the nightmare in the Slaughter household. After a one night stand-gone sour with Johnny, she becomes a victim to the family. Two weeks before the capture and death of Maria, Sydney powers through the survivours guilt to strategise an escape. When the chaos of the new-found victims erupts, Sydney takes her chance and does everything in her power to clear the path to survival -- seeking revenge while doing so.
ATTRIBUTES
-- TOUGHNESS 30. surviving as long as she should have, sydney is tough as nails. battling through her pain and scars, she can take a few hits while in the heat of battle.
-- ENDURANCE 15. unfortunately smoking since the age of twelve doesn't have a good affect on the lungs. sydney works best in short outbursts, but doesn't have the stamina to go long distance.
-- STRENGTH 25. fuelled by pure adrenaline and rage, sydney's strength is surprising considering her tortured condition. but when you mess with the bull, you get the horns.
-- PROFICIENCY 15. sydney is use to bulldozing her way through situations and doesn't have the patience to unlock objectives. protecting the victims who have the smarts for these things will help her in the long run.
-- STEALTH 45. she is known to be sneaky when she needs to be. with her experience sneaking backstage at concerts, onto tour buses, squatting when sleeping gets tough; sydney knows how to slip by unnoticed.
ABILITY - VENGENCE
sydney's ability makes her great for defense against the family. depending on how you go up the tree, you can use sydney's ability as a grapple without the worry of losing and being killed (health deducted from attacks by other family members is halfed while using ability). you can also use it to drain the family's stamina, reduce the cooldown period to use the ability as much as you can, or keep the family in a stand off for a longer period to buy others more time to complete objectives.
EDIT NOTE: i forgot to clarify that there is unique animations sydney has with the family members when using her ability. she wrestles, scratches, headbutts, bites, and specifically for bubba she jumps on his back and tries to gouge his eyes out which puts him in a panic (in case you were wondering how she can grapple him). yeah she crazy. don't mess with bitches from staten island!!
lvl one. cooldown period is reduced by 20% OR duration of ability lasts three seconds OR ability drains family's stamina by 20%
lvl two. cooldown period is reduced by 35% OR duration of ability lasts five seconds OR ability drains family's stamina by 45%
lvl three. cooldown period is reduced by 50% OR duration of ability last seven seconds OR ability drains family's stamina by 75%
UNIQUE PERKS
POULTRY BUTCHER. sydney can silence chickens without the use of a bone scrap (has 4 charges at lvl three)
COME AND GET ME. if sydney makes noise, any attack within 15 seconds by a family member will result in 80% less damage (at max lvl)
DEATH CROAK. incapitating grandpa reduces the family bond by 2.5 levels and delays his next feed by 30 seconds (at max lvl)
VICTIM PERKS
syndey can attain the following perks . . .
bounce back better, choose flight, conditioned, deadbolt, efficient backstabber, exit strategy, fuse lights, grappler, high tolerence, highly skilled, hush or die, immunity, jack in the box, overlooked, radar detector, ran track, tae kwon door.
VOICELINES
"these scheeves picked on the wrong girl."
"hey! how the hell you get outta here?"
"you dead-ass right now? they're gonna hear us if you keep running around like that!"
"jeez, try being a little more quiet next time."
"sick, this might open that door."
"i don't care if those fuckers find me, i'm ready for them."
"get out of here, i'll handle this."
[progged when seeing johnny] "shit, it's him. he don't look so handsome no more..."
[prompted when fighting johnny] "this is what you get, you fuckhead! don't mess with me!"
"they're crazy, they're all goddamn crazy."
"hey, asshole! come and get some."
[when seeing other victims] "if you figure out a way to get us outta here, i can district them."
"wanna kill me? you ain't got the guts."
Finding Her - Chapter 9
Tumblr media
Link makes notes, takes photos and keeps time on his quest across Hyrule, in the hopes of finding Zelda and staying sane until he does. [ Previous | Next | First | AO3 ]
Log date: 14:30. 6th month, 24th day 104AC Location: Ukoojisi Shrine, West Necluda Sky Archipelago Weather: Sunny
Back up above, in the islands. Taking a break for a moment. Decided to explore the skies above Necluda for the day. Something about the loneliness of the open air. It’s peaceful.
Completed a few shrines here and there. About fifty total by now. There’s a large island east by northeast of here. Kinda looks like a huge vase, or a horn-like instrument. Met a horn player back in Hyrule Ridge that I helped out of a tricky spot (literally) but his didn’t look like this.
Would judge it to be a few hundred feet away, so will need a flying machine. Been experimenting with Zonai tech and getting more comfortable with the arm. Fans - reliable. Rockets - powerful. Wings - slow but useful in a pinch. Balloons - handy. Steering sticks vital (don’t forget one this time). Trying to make something with as few parts as possible. My best machine so far uses only a steering stick, a metal bracket and three fans. Wonder if I can get that down to two…
Wondering what the limits of this arm are as well. I dropped a fan over the edge of the island by mistake and in a last ditch effort tried to Recall it. It was half-way to the surface but I focused, and felt my reach extend beyond my fingertips, like I could touch the horizon. With a wave of my fingers – ding! The fan fell upwards and back into my hands.
Zelda gave me this power, didn’t she? Can barely describe it. Otherworldly doesn’t do it the tiniest justice. Heading over to the horn-island after this, and then down to Duelling Peaks for the night. Forward, always forward.
A photograph taken from the top of Zonaite Forge Island, a huge, vaguely tuba-shaped landmass with an atrium at its centre. The photograph is of the atrium, with a lattice of red lasers guarding it. At the base of the atrium appears to be a shrine, barely visible.
Log date: 19:35. 6th month, 24th day 104AC Location: Duelling Peaks Stable Weather: Mild, scattered clouds
Made it to the stable. Hands shaking. Can barely write. But have to or it'll get under my skin and blister.
Caught sight of Penn. Was glad to see him, at first. ‘They have the Princess!’ he said. ‘They have Zelda!’ I was making toast by a fire and dropped it, dropped everything. The bread burned as Penn told me the Yiga had taken Zelda to a cave in the Duelling Peaks. Of course. It would be that simple. She fell into the past, but used her brilliant powers to come straight back, into the greedy hands of those arrogant, sniveling little—
I ran to the top of Duelling Peaks so fast my legs were screaming. Had to go as fast as I could, had to find her – and there she was. Oh Hylia. There she was. Knees shaking. Crying, babbling, blubbering that I’d free her, I’d get her out, and it’d all be okay.
Such an idiot. Such a stupid, hard-headed, idiot knight. Less sense than a pile of rocks. I ran headlong into that Yiga ambush. And I knew the second I freed ‘Zelda’ that something was wrong, but it was too late. In a flash, she was gone, and three Yiga in her place. Weapons ready. Bows drawn.
I don’t remember much after that. There was a fire in my chest, hot as red iron, tearing itself out of me. The fury that heroes, and monsters, are made of. Someone was screaming. Was it me?
My hands are still shaking. There was blood on my knuckles, I scrubbed them red raw in the river. I walked away from that fight without a scratch, but the Yiga? They probably limped away, if I knew what I was doing. With a sword I usually do.
Penn is waiting. I don’t know what to tell him. I’ll say I found nothing. Or that the Yiga escaped unharmed. Maybe if I speak it, I’ll believe it.
A photograph of a low-burning campfire, the blackened remnants of burnt toast among the logs.
Log date: 14:10. 6th month, 26th day 104AC  Location: Riverside Stable Weather: Sunny
Ran into Penn again. Gut dropped seeing him. Back at Duelling Peaks Stable he asked if the Princess was okay and I lost it. Don’t remember what I said, only that I yelled it.
‘Where’s Zelda now?’ I asked this time, still angry. Feel bad about that. Feel terrible. What happened wasn’t his fault. He flipped nervously through his notebook and told me to talk to the stable chef. Something about some missing friends of his and a recipe that Zelda gave them.
It didn’t seem like much but I figured I’d better make it up to Penn and chase the lead. The chef said he feared his friends had gotten lost in the nearby woods. It seemed unlikely (this part of Hyrule is always easy travelling) but if all four hadn’t turned up, something must have happened. Poked around for an hour or so in the woods and found a camp of comatose travellers and the ruins of some dreadful cooking. Can still remember the smell.
Found some notes they’d left saying they were trying a recipe Zelda had given them - a rice and meat bowl. I know just the one. She likes it best with slow roasted beef, rice made with just a touch of salt, and green onion garnish. An easy recipe, if you know what you’re doing.
Well. I think these travellers made theirs with monster meat. Actual monster meat. I can’t… who would even… why would you even… Anyway. Even if they hadn’t all been sick I would have re-cooked their meal just on principle. And these guys are chefs?
I cleaned out the cauldron (twice), crushed some rock salt and fried up some rice, and sautéed some doe meat with a touch of oil, and even without all the sauces and spices I keep at home, the aroma was enough to wake the weary travellers.
They’re all back at the stables now, enjoying seconds. Penn mumbled something about another dead-end story, and before I could say anything he’d flown off without even a soar long!
Next time I see him I’d better apologise. But it’s a big kingdom, so that might be a while. Will give me time to practice what I’ll say, at least.
A photograph of a newly drawn-up poster in the Riverside Stables, illustrating the ingredients and proper method to make a meat and rice bowl. In the corner of the poster, highlighted by a bright blue callout, are the words ‘Endorsed by Princess Zelda!’
Caption: I gave her that recipe.
---
Log date: 20:00. 6th month, 28th day 104AC Location: Wetlands Stable Weather: Mild. Rain easing.
…Ran into Penn, again.
Gave him a fright. He squawked so loud when he saw me that a flock of nearby sparrows took wing. This time I was on the offense (so to speak): ‘What’ve your little birds got for us, Penn? Excited for another adventure!’ He blinked at me with his bright, beady eyes (his goggles left around his neck, I suppose because the rain would prevent him from flying), and buried his face in his notebook. Turns out he did have a story, but he insisted it was just as mundane as the last.
The stable’s ferryman, Izra, had been complaining of unreturned tools, borrowed by Zelda some months back. Penn said Izra hadn’t been willing to give a statement but maybe a Hylian would have better luck interviewing him. I offered Penn come with me this time and after some preening he agreed, making sure to put his goggles back on before we left.
Izra recognised me on sight and refused to speak. He couldn’t talk ill of his Princess to her Knight, he said. I promised not to tell. He made me double promise and sealed it with a handshake. He said he’d lent Zelda some farm tools and had been trying to catch her to ask for them back. ‘I’d ask for her at Lookout and hear she was in Hateno, so I’d send word to Hateno and be told she was in Faron, and then I sent word to Faron and–’. We stopped him there, his point made.
Izra said he’d seen Zelda take the tools to Floret Sandbar, so after a bit of Ultrahand magic (definitely getting better at it now), Penn, Izra and I clambered onto a ferry and sailed south. There we found a blooming garden. All three of us could hardly speak at the sight of it. Flowers of every kind from every corner of Hyrule, including a perfectly cultivated set of Silent Princesses. A floral oasis, like those you’d find in Gerudo Desert.
It struck me then, the memory clear as a ringing bell. Zelda, pouring over a notebook with pressed flowers gathered from our travels. ‘If only I had somewhere with all of Hyrule’s flowers in one spot,’ she’d said. We were at the house, lounging together on the settee by the fireplace, her back to my chest and my arms around her. I must not have said anything, all I remember was tracing the pattern of one of her braids with a finger and admiring the skill of it. But she still went and made her garden, and this was it.
There we met Magda, who said Zelda left her in charge of the garden. It’d been partly destroyed by ruins that fell after the Upheaval, so she’d made it her mission to get the garden in perfect shape. Before Penn or I could intervene, she drafted Izra to help her in exchange for returning the farm tools and then shooed us away. ‘Too many feet running about the place will trample all my hard work!’ We left Izra with the ferry so he’d at least have some method of escape, and walked back to the stables.
The whole way Penn didn’t say much, which I thought normal for a writer with a story bouncing around their head. But he didn’t write anything in his notebook either, only looked down at the waters of the river passing by. At the stables, he was hurrying to fly off again without a word, but I caught him.
On the walk back it occurred to me that he and I aren’t much different. Both looking for Zelda, both travellers, both alone and both dedicated to our craft - him with his words and me with my sword (and magic arm). To my surprise I realised I missed talking to someone. You can only think your thoughts so long before they well up and demand to be let out. I wondered if Penn felt the same, that maybe his notepad was no substitute for a friend. That maybe he’d like to swap stories without worrying about getting them perfect for the newspaper.
I wasn’t sure where to start my apology. But I did say sorry, and asked him if he wanted lunch. I said I could cook, and if he wanted we could sit by the wetlands once the rain stopped and talk about where we planned to travel next.
To my relief and happiness, he said yes.
A photograph of Link in his Zonai glider’s armour. It is sleek and aerodynamic, with a woolen undershirt for warmth. Link is proudly posing for the camera with his arms held wide to show off the ‘wings’. In the background are the sparkling Lanayru Wetlands. Link is wearing Penn’s goggles.
Caption: He offered to let me borrow them, but I refused. I’ll get my own next time I return to the sky.
When Sir Vivian Richards took over the captaincy from Sir Clive Lloyd, there was a notion that the power-hitting style as the smoking Joe Frasier may fade due to the responsibility factor. Sir Geoffrey Boycott endorsed this thought when the Test series between West Indies and England commenced.
Richards did have his hours in the series, but somewhere, that master blaster was missing and Boycott's statement was proving right until the King came out to bat at Antigua. There was carnage as the King smashed 50 off 35 deliveries and the next 60 runs came off from just 23;
Viv was severe on his Somerset teammate Ian Botham who ended up leaking 78 from 15 overs. While the lanky English spinner John Emburey leaked 83 from 14. Before that he leaked 14 runs from 9 overs!
Richards had only two options on that afternoon - a boundary or a six. "In a sense, I did everything to get out, but luckily for me, everything went off the middle of the bat. The crowd was jumping & the car horns were blowing all round the island,"said the King.
Richards managed a strike rate of 189.65 from 58 deliveries and the West Indies completed another whitewash.
Touring the American West
This post outlines our recent visit (May 2023) to the American West. There are dozens of ways to enjoy your time there. This is what we did, and it worked out GREAT. We started planning almost a year in advance. Vacancies at places to stay and tour slots fill up quickly, so consider that when planning.
TIME OF YEAR We visited May 6-13. There are pros and cons to going in early Spring.
Cons
Not all of the roads in both Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Park will be open. One main road in Yellowstone is maintained year-round. The others eventually become snow-covered and impassable. During our visit the Upper Loop and Lower Loop in that park weren't fully open, but we were able to see all of the main attractions. The National Park Service website has the schedule for road openings (and closures). Some of the roads were closed as snow removal was being finalized, others closed because of an increase in bear activity. As bears come out of hibernation and find the carcasses of bison and elk that didn't survive the winter, they become more aggressive and a bigger threat to visitors.
It's still somewhat cold and in some places the ground was still snow-covered. Lows were 30-35 degrees, highs 50-60. Dressing in layers is the way to go.
In some places, particularly in ID, many restaurants were seasonal and grocery stores closed at 5PM.
Pros
No crowds! At the height of Summer, it can take up to 90 minutes to get through Yellowstone's west entrance. Roads can become clogged, particularly when wildlife are on the roadway. We visited Yellowstone on three different days, and each day we rolled right up to the gate and moved about freely on all open roads. We were also able to easily pull into any of the cutouts, if we saw wildlife in the distance. I sincerely think the time in the park would have been less enjoyable if we had to deal with crowds.
Babies! Early Spring means new births. We saw young bison, elk and sheep.
Tumblr media
TRAVEL & ACCOMODATIONS
We planned to visit the Grand Tetons National Park (Jackson, WY), Yellow Stone National Park (WY, MT & ID) and Bozeman, MT. There are two major airports that serve those areas: Bozeman Yellowstone International (Belgrade, MT) and Jackson Hole (Jackson, WY). There were more choices for flights into Bozeman, and the cost was less than Jackson Hole.
We flew into Bozeman and drove to Teton Village (~4.5 hours) on the date of our arrival. This was so we didn't have to drive 4.5 hours to the airport on the day of our departure. The first day was tiring, but that was a good decision.
We stayed at 3 different AirBnBs. One in Teton Village, WY (2 nights), one in Island Park, ID (3 nights), ~30 minutes from the West Entrance of Yellowstone and one in Belgrade, MT (2 nights). Since you'll need to book months in advance, pay attention to cancellation rules and related fees.
We rented a car and travelled almost 1,000 miles over the course of the week. If going with a group, pay attention to not only how many the vehicle seats, but also how the luggage room is reduced when seating the maximum. We, fortunately, were able to upgrade on the spot for $10/day. Upgrade fees are MUCH higher during the peak season and larger vehicles may not be available.
TOURS
While we explored much of the area on our own, we did take two formal tours. Like with the AirBnBs, pay attention to cancellation rules and fees.
While in Teton Village, we used Brush Buck Tours. We took a public tour and were fortunate enough to be the only ones in the van. They picked us up at our residence, and the guides were exceptional.
Tumblr media
Also while there we took our own (free) tour of the National Elk Refuge in Jackson, WY, and got to see long horn sheep.
Tumblr media
There was still a significant amount of snow on the ground in Island Park, ID, but roads were clear.
Tumblr media
While there, we used Yellowstone Vacation Tours. This full-day tour was at capacity, so there were ~25 people on the bus. That number didn't decrease our enjoyment and, again, the guide was outstanding. For this tour, we had to meet them at their office.
Tumblr media
We also visited the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone. You can get an up-close, but not too personal, experience with those creatures.
On the way out of Island Park, ID, we drove through Yellowstone National Park again and exited through the north entrance. While in Bozeman, MT, we did some hiking near Montana State University and visited the Museum of the Rockies.
MISCELLANEOUS
If you're going to visit either of the National Parks on your own (i.e. without a tour guide), it's most cost-effective to buy an annual pass. Here's why: If you enter a park in a non-commercial vehicle, that pass covers the driver and all passengers in your vehicle. If you enter in a commercial vehicle (i.e. part of a guided tour) that annual pass covers 4 members of your party. Additional members of your party would then have to purchase an individual pass, good for 1 week. The annual pass covers EVERY National park, but the individual pass covers only the park for which it was purchased.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. The altitude and dryness of the air can take a toll on your body and skin. Be sure to bring moisturizers and lip balm. Stock up on hydration powders (e.g. Propel, Liquid IV, etc.) to add to your water.
Bring snacks. While one of the tours provided drinks and snacks, the other didn't. If exploring on your own, consider buying a cheap Styrofoam cooler to keep in your vehicle and fill it with water, granola bars, protein bars, etc. Not all of the park amenities were open and food options were limited. One tour offered the option to purchase a box lunch, but we opted to get one at Ernie's Bakery & Deli in West Yellowstone ahead of the tour. Order early enough the day before, and they'll have them ready when they open at 7AM.
Bear spray. Since we did not do any hiking on trails because most were not yet open, if we had I would have carried bear spray. (It's basically pepper spray shot through a small fire extinguisher). You can purchase it there, but TSA prohibits it in both carry on and checked bags. You can rent bear spray by the day, too.
Invest in a quality set of binoculars. One of the tours provided each participant with a set to use during the tour, the other didn't. Having our own set was beneficial both on the tour and when we were exploring the area without a guide.
If a visit to that area is on your bucket list, go. If it's not, go. It was the most beautiful, breath-taking, awe-inspiring place I've ever been. It's also the most wild, harsh and unforgiving place, too. It's Nature doing its thing. When the mountain men who first went to that area returned to cities and towns with stories of the landscape and "upside down waterfalls" (geysers), locals did not believe them and thought they'd gone mad. It's a place you have to see for yourself.
Description:
Aeris is a dark-purple fire drake hatched on Odessy Island. He is one of the larger dragons currently living on the Island.
His hide is so dark that he often is mistaken for black, however when the light hits him, purple would shimmer strongly over his scales.
The upper surface of his wings are a lighter purple which fades into dark from the bone and down to the trailing edge of said wing. The underside is a much darker purple than the rest of his body.
He is built powerfully, sleak horns adorning his head where they are longest, gradually becoming smaller until they end at the base of his tail.
Tumblr media
Personality:
He is known to have a calm nature and is surprisingly gentle with humans and other living creatures.
His personality is often compared to that of an old man, as he seems to have endless patience with the children that mistake him for a climbing post. He never seems to mind, often preferring the company of children over adults.
Sunday, August 13 - Prince Christian Sound (Prins Christian Sund)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once again, yesterday was a sea day, with not a lot to show for it, although our team actually won trivia (there are about 10 teams, so we felt pretty good about it). We had continued on in a sea fog, which seems to be pretty common in the North Atlantic, and we have gotten used to the regular bleating of the fog horn (pretty subdued in our cabin).
Today, however, was entirely different. We woke up early to see our first view of Greenland and it was fairly clear outside, but were still out quite far off shore and not close enough to see anything. We were to go through Prins Christian Sund, which can either be the highlight of the cruise or a big disappointment. Our captain had slowed down our approach and was timing it to start later through the Sund, which is actually a fjord that links up to other fjords, creating a passage separating a little bit of Greenland (the Cape Farewell archipelago) from the mainland. We had a Zodiac trip scheduled, and they had moved the departure time a bit later, since we weren't rushing the approach.
Just as we got close enough to see Greenland, the sea fog rolled in and visibility dropped to near zero, but miraculously just as we entered the Sund at about 11AM, the fog lifted, and we had spectacular blue skies. We motored very slowly for about an hour and then stopped in front of a side fjord that terminated in a glacier that we got to explore by Zodiac. The air was cool (mid-40's) but the sun made it comfortable. We had waited until last to board a Zodiac, since that Zodiac was smaller and took less passengers, and on our way in to the glacier, the engine cut out a few times, but then restarted and we continued on.
There was some minor calving on the glacier, which was loud but inconsequential. We got to get quite close, and were able to spot a bearded seal on a floe, but in the pictures he (or she) is just a dark blob. The view was better through binoculars! We saw another one swimming in the water on our way back to the ship, and at that moment, our engine cut out again. Our guide tried all sorts of things, but eventually we had to be towed back to the ship. We really didn't mind, since it was lovely out there, and we got to see the seal a couple of more times in between its dives.
We finally moved on from this spot around 3 in the afternoon, and headed west. The Sund is about 66 miles long, and narrows to around 1500 feet, and is only navigable in the summer because of the ice. Not too many years ago, the glacier that we explored extended down into the fjord proper and out to sea the way we came. The glaciers we saw the rest of the day (and they were numerous) are the edges of the Greenland ice sheet, which covers 80% of the island and is second only to Antarctica in size.
While the eastern part of the fjord shows mainly rock rounded and polished by the ice sheet and glaciers, the western part has many, many jagged and rugged rocks that reflect the volcanic nature of this area. These are some of the oldest rocks visible on earth, and it is hard to comprehend the scale as we went past.
After a mostly straight shot of about 35-40 miles, we made several 90 degree turns, zigging, then zagging and zigging again and past the only signs of human habitation - the approximately 100 person village of Appilattoq, which is nestled beneath towering peaks on a little flat land with a small natural harbor. The eighth picture shows the peak behind - if you zoom in you can see tiny little houses near the water. The last photo also shows a small ship at the bottom of the peak - another example of the overwhelming scale of the place. By late afternoon we had mostly cloudy skies, but it only added to the drama of the place.
The captain slowed the vessel to a crawl after we had made the turn by the village, and despite the cold, we chose to sit at the patio restaurant for dinner and the duration of our voyage through the fjord. He had timed it so folks were finished with dinner and it was getting dark before we exited into the open sea again (and dense fog). It has truly been one of the most spectacular days we have had at sea, and we spent the entire day on the decks just soaking in the scenery (and taking lots of pictures).
We only have to go about 80 nautical miles to our port tomorrow, Nanortalik, which is why we were able to dawdle through the Sund. The forecast for tomorrow is cloudy and around 48 degrees, but no rain, so we are looking forward to bundling up and exploring.
Knuckles
Sri Lanka's first conservation forest. From southeast to northwest direction, from Laggala to Edurugala, there is a mountain range extending for about 12 miles. This forest belongs to the two districts of Matale and Kandy and several major mountain peaks such as Gombania, Knuckles, Keselpondaruwagala, Kirigalpotta, Dumbagala, Kalupahana, Dothalugala, Charapugala, Thelambugala and Lakegala are located here. The Knuckles mountain range is the main catchment area of the rivers Hulu Ganga, Kalu Ganga, and Heing Ganga.
Also, the climate zones and the following forest types can be identified in the Knuckles Conservation Forest. They are,
Low dry semi-evergreen forests, Mountain moist evergreen forests, Mountain-dry evergreen forests
Moist evergreen forests, Pitawala pathana
(sera falls)
Knuckles is located perpendicular to the northeast and southwest winds, so it receives rain from both monsoons. It rains throughout the year but the most rainfall occurs from November to February when the northeast monsoon winds blow. The average rainfall in Knuckles East is between 2540 - 3870mm. 5081mm of rain in the main Knuckles area according to data from the St. Martin estate. From October to January, there is more rain in the northeast of the mountain range, but there is almost no rain in the other part.
The temperature in the Dumbara range is 26 to 21oC above 300 feet. The temperature at the highest point is between 13-18oC. This is the temperature in these types of forest areas from January to March.
Pleistocene Era (1.6 million years ago to 10,000 years ago) acknowledgment that sea level change-related events largely influenced the formation of the Central Highlands and Knuckles in Sri Lanka.
Many species of plants and animals endemic to Sri Lanka are found here and according to the tests done, 50% of the plants in the Knuckles area are indigenous to Sri Lanka. This is a forest with an ecosystem that is not seen anywhere else in the world at an altitude of more than 3500 feet.
Among the types of plants here are milla, mora, atamba, badulla and ornamental plants endemic to Sri Lanka, iraraja, sandaraja, mahahadaya, medicinal orchids, and ferns.
Apart from leopards, elk, sanddeer, mink, wild boar, stick squirrel, Slender Loris, and bats, 20 out of 35 species of mammals and 14 out of 21 species of birds are found in Knuckles. 28 species of fish have been identified in Knuckles. 9 are threatened with extinction and are endemic to Sri Lanka. Species 4 is unique to the Knuckles region. E.g. Galpadiya, Ran Petiya, Mal Petiya, Gadaya
A large number of lizard species are found here. Kuru Bodilima is native to Sri Lanka. The specialty of this type is that there are two species of this lizard in the world. One of them lives in Knuckles, Sri Lanka, and the other lives on Java Island, Indonesia. The horned lizard that lives above 800m in the Knuckles Mountains is a lizard unique to Knuckles. Pinum katussa, Mookalan pala katussa, both species of lizards endemic to this country are found only in this mountain range. 67 species of butterflies belonging to 6 genera have been identified from knuckles, of which 14 species are endemic to Sri Lanka and 17 species are threatened with extinction.
Pitawala Pathana
There are 5 acres of land among the Knuckles Mountains. Its height is 865 m above sea level. From this place, many mountains ranges belonging to the Knuckles forest area can be seen. It has valuable biodiversity. The Dumbara gal mediya and the Mookalang Huna, endemic to Sri Lanka, live here. Pathan ala plant, which is native to Pitawala Pathana, and Carnivorous plants native to this country also grow well E.g. Kandulassa
Reverstern (Batadadu kanda)
Located in the Laggala Constituency of Matale District, Mount Reverstern belongs to the Knuckles mountain range. This mountain with a height of 1205m was called Reverstern by the British and is called Batadu Durgaya, Batadadu Kanda in Sinhala. This mountain is very rich in biodiversity. It has its own unique animals and plants. Binara flowers, unique to Sri Lanka, are found here. In 2010, it was declared as a reserve. Invasive plants are a threat. E.g. The South American plants called sudda and maha midum.
Spider-Man Comics Read-through Masterpost (The Sixties)
So here's what I already read thanks to handy compilations in my country by year: 1969 (TASM 68-79 + Marvel Super-Heroes 14), 1973 (TASM 116-127 + Spectacular Spider-Man Magazine Vol 2, which I recall particularly enjoying) and 1974 (TASM 128-139 + Giant-Size Super Heroes 1 + Giant-Size Spider-Man 1 & 2). I read a few more comics here and there like one from the early 2000s with Skrulls, a Spider-Man/Wolverine team-up, and one issue where they were on an island or something... and two volumes of the recent 2022 run. I also read Civil War 1-6 and the corresponding Spider-Man issues (TASM 532-536). And I just remembered I ALSO read two other arcs: the first Clone Saga with the Jackal (TASM 144-151) and Morlun's first appearance (TASM [1999] 30-35) and YES, I never saw the actual conversation with May. I also very recently read two issues of a crossover, one where Spider-Punk fights capitalistic Kang, and [the one I really wanted to read] the one where Peter's dead and Harry fights his dad. It's pretty gay. Anyway!
Opinions:
1969's run is nice, but after reading through 1973 and 74, it all feels a bit underwhelming - but the story arc was intriguing.
1973 and 1974 are classical, and I didn't know how much they was, but they truly is. Iconic story arcs, they involve the Green Goblin who's by far my favorite villain (I was raised on those Raimi movies baby) and I was very glad to see elements of a certain arc in TASM 2. Truly excellent.
The first Clone Saga was great, and I appreciated that Mary Jane was just as affected. However, I didn't like Morlun's arc - it felt too gritty. But Peter as a university professor definitely makes sense.
I don't think I'm gonna read everything 'til today, but hey, I'm just curious and taking my time!
I guess considering all of that... I read a sensible amount of Spider-Man comics, I guess, huh? Wow.
Anyway, I'm following a... certain list because it's exactly what I needed. I've already (mostly) read through arcs 001-004, so I made a grouped post for these.
Lee & Ditko Era (001: AF 15, ASM 1-38, ASM Ann 1-2) + The start of the Lee & Romita Sr.'s Era (002 End Of The Green Goblin [ASM 39-40], 003 Horns Of The Rhino [ASM 41-43, Ann 3] & 004 Where Crawls a Lizard [ASM 44-46]: Here
005 Old Kravens and New Vultures (ASM 47-49): Here 006 Spider-Man No More (ASM 50-52): Here 007 What a Tangled Web We Weave (ASM 53-61, Ann 4): 1 2 008 The Goblin Lives (ASM 62-67): Here
Interlude - Spectacular Spider-Man 1 & 2 + Annual 5: Here
009 The Case of the Petrified Tablet (ASM 68-77): Here 010 Night of The Prowler (ASM 78-82, Ann 6): Here
Recommendations: Here
For the Seventies, go here.
