70: are you very critical of your own writing? how much do you find yourself editing (either during the writing or after the fact)?

VERY FUCKING CRITICAL. Holy hell imposter syndrome my beloathed. I’m surrounded by talent and y’all are intimidating. I edit a lot I think, after writing. I tend to add at least 10-20% more words LMAO, as well as rewording stuff

74: are you a planner, pantser, or planster?

Hang on I have to Google something. Reading this description, I think plantser with pantser tendencies. I get a basic idea, at least a few events, and then just go for it

76: what is one essential thing to remember when writing a villain? 

Oh god idk man. Lighthearted, I’d say make them decently likable if you want them to be compelling. If they’re evil and annoying or evil and boring, that sucks. One dimensional and/or annoying characters are no fun. Give them some pizzazz. BUT. On a serious note, also be careful to avoid harmful stereotypes. Queer villains are fun—don’t make them your only queer characters. That kind of thing

80: do you try to put themes, motifs, messages, morals, etc in your writing? if so, how do you go about it?

Yes! I tend to mostly use specific themes that go along with the main story theme. It’s hard to explain. Road trip = sunlight and warmth and nature themed allegories and freedom. There in the garden = dark and spooky and gothic and blood and animalistic. You know? Morals I don’t usually use intentionally but I’m not Aesop /lh

82: “proper” punctuation or all lowercase?

I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I need my proper punctuation (in 98% of cases). I don’t necessarily have a reason outside of it makes it easier for me to read in regards to when sentences end kind of?? BUT!!! I think stylistically, all lowercase can be a SUPER FUCKING COOL option. Favorite example is dancing in the moonlight by our own summersociety / @candle-lion when it comes to Birdie’s POV, it’s just an incredible choice in my opinion!! It’s fitting that the beast is “simpler” more “animal” you know?

86: which season best matches the mood of your wip(s)?

Fall. I’m an Autumn bitch. I tend to write stuff being in Autumn without really thinking about it

Description. I think I tend to talk in a way that’s kind of awkward, and it translates into making my written dialogue awkward. The amount of times I go back and change it to sound more real and human before I post is unreal. Description is more fun to me, and I get to fuck around with metaphors and whatnot

Dude. The new wip pod had some very interesting and kinda heartbreaking statements from Sophia. Like it went back to 2022 even. Really sad, and it highlights the unreality of social media and what is supposed to be the ‘fairytale’. Also ak/woso Stan’s have absolutely nuked both Soph and ash to the point where this woman who already got hate on the regular thinks it’s gone to an insane level. Her level of anxiety still seems insane even if she spit a somewhat happy spin on it

She does seem personally happy otherwise and I think her relationship serves a healthy amount of that but it seems likes she now it it for the right reasons and not cause it looks good on paper

I’m kinda surprised by the dark James discourse. Obviously, everyone is totally valid in their feelings and reactions. Certain versions of deatheater!James have not been my cup of tea in the past but why is a reluctant DE James is the bridge too far for some people when it seems like par for course for the fandom? Fics involving DE ships are consistently the most popular in the HP fandom (Dramione, Drarry, Tom/Harry) and the biggest Marauders’ WIP right now has James cheating on his pregnant girlfriend with a Deatheater. Like yeah it’s all problematic if it was real life but it’s fiction. I would love your perspective if I’m missing something.

Sure! If I wanted to read a death eater love interest as you mentioned, I’d be a fan of those ships. I’m not. I’m not here for that. I’m here for Order members. Par for the course for the Harry Potter fandom is not the same in each niche at all. Personally I have never cared about or run into darkfic until last year, when it entered the community’s discussion spaces and IMO popped into the mainstream — i.e. written by extremely popular authors, read widely, recommended on jilyarchive (IIRC???), and fairly represented in awards nominations. Let me be absolutely clear, I am well aware there is stuff I would hate all over AO3. My discomfort is when becomes impossible for me to ignore.

The reluctant Death Eater as a character cutout personally makes me extremely wary. First, I’m not really interested in stories where a so-called “reluctant” member of a hate group (surely we can agree this is what Voldemort’s followers are?) is shown the light by a marginalised woman. Big “I can fix him” vibes, when in reality the “right woman’s love” does not “turn” anyone. You change if you want to change. Nor am I interested in reading morally anguished lust — never have I ever felt shamefully attracted to someone who (pressured or not!!!!) has thought of me as less-than or hurt people like me. And that is in everyday life, where the stakes are certainly not as high as murder or torture.

Now, specifics: it seems especially twisted to write James this way. I’ve been in this fandom on Tumblr for ten years and I remember the days we used to actively argue with Sn*ly fans (😭😭😭). We spent ridiculous amounts of time on James’s sense of honour, on his aversion to the Dark arts, on those being the reasons — and rightfully so! — Lily fell in love with him. I fail to see how ANY kind of DE James is not Sn*pe. I fail to see how James, who became an Animagus for his best friend, would not fight tooth and nail against an institution that would turn him into a weapon. I fail to see how James, who was a brother to Sirius, would side even nominally with the people Sirius ran away from. I fail to see how James, who made a fucking magical map of Hogwarts, would not find a way to join the resistance. That’s so far from the James I know and love that I am not interested in what boils down to an OC with his name slapped on it. And that’s not even touching on the jarring unreality of his position as the wealthy heir of a well-known, pro-Muggle pure-blood family still somehow…not being protection and privilege enough that he must join in genocide?

Further, even if James is truly dragging his heels in this, I do not see Lily falling for him at all. It does her a disservice and imo insults her sense of dignity. If she could drop her best friend at the age of 16 for calling her a slur, she can resist the charms of someone turning weapons on people like her. I am not interested in these stories, where a young woman is faced with brutal prejudice on all fronts and has to deal with the violence of it even from her love. I find it distasteful to revel in that so-called angst.

Finally — I don’t believe there is any possibility of nuance in a romance-centric fanfiction that explores a story like this. Because we as readers, and certainly the author as a shipper, thinks they’re soulmates! So…if they’re soulmates, he loved her all along, right? If they’re soulmates, he didn’t mean anything by it, right? If they’re soulmates, she has to forgive him, right, because she loves him. There is no way it cannot be romanticised. There is no atonement that feels earned because in the reader’s eyes he doesn’t have to atone for anything, really — he’s loved her all along and surely James and Lily have a love that conquers all!

It reeks of apologia. Not interested in fic like that about my ship that centres personal growth and maturing, and kicking Voldemort’s mouldy ass. In any universe.

I don’t think the implications of this can be restricted to just fiction and I think the stated discomfort of fans based on personal marginalisation proves that. We don’t write in a vacuum. We can’t claim to love the antifascism of canon or express distaste for Sn*pe’s flawed love for Lily and then turn around and act surprised when our own writing — again in the MAINSTREAM, I don’t care about what’s written far from the centre of this fandom and easy to ignore — is hypocritical and hurts people because of it. We can’t extol fanfiction’s powerful themes and talk about what fic has taught us and made us think about and then say “oh it’s just fiction” when it suits us. If it’s moved you so much clearly words have impact.

Again let me underscore this: this hurts people. Drives away fans and creators. You would not believe the specific writers and fans who feel sad and upset and discouraged and again, WANT TO STOP WRITING AND INTERACTING HERE because of this.

That to me is why this is a very clear line in the sand.

5. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?  Yes! I think I've responded to all of them! Although, it can take me awhile to get to it. Comments make me SO damn happy and they seriously mean so much to me. They are my main motivation. Whenever I'm brainstorming, I always think about my readers and what they might like. I can't help but respond. Especially to readers I hear from on every chapter 🥺 my heart is melting just thinking about it. 😭💖

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? 

Ahhh well, that has yet to be written. 👀

7. Do you write crossovers? Nah, that's not my jam. AUs... now that's my jam.

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic? Once... I think. It was a really weird comment that I determined was likely making fun of me and they sure went out of their way to say... something, I can't even remember what they said, great job being memorable.

9. Do you write smut? If so what kind? Absolutely! Well, define what kind. I write OC and reader point of view for kinks, a little BDSM, dark and dangerous, hot and heavy, slow and torturous, the occasional fluffy stuff, but always consensual adults.

15. What are your writing strengths? Ah, well, shameless brag! I think I'm rather good at creating a good image of the setting in which everything is taking place as well as imagery in general. I also looove dialogue and I think that's one of my strong points.

16. What are your writing weaknesses? I think one of my strengths is also a downfall. I spend an unreal amount of time getting my wording perfect to make sure everything comes out the way I want it too. I also have written myself into a corner with plot points that I didn't plan ahead of time. 😂

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? Wow, that is actually something I've never thought about before and it's an incredible idea! Difficult to do since I'm not multi-lingual but I'm rather determined to do this. 👀👀

Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Sometimes. I try to if I’m not in a non-social mood. Mostly, if I start off on my page before reading any fic and see that I have something in my inbox and it turns out to be a comment on my fic, then I’m more likely to reply to it. Idk why it works like that. Otherwise, it’s kinda touch and go whether or not I’ll reply to something, you’ve got a 50/50 chance, but I always read and appreciate every one that I get.

What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

*Looks at my abundance of angst fics* There’s... a surprising amount of angst without happy endings in my repertoire. Um. I’ll give you three that I vividly remember. (All of these are Star Trek and Spones) Written In The Stars - This is one of my really early works, and was gonna have a sequel that made it have a less angsty ending, but I could never get into the rhythm of writing it. I won’t spoil it, but this is probably the only fic I’ve written where Sarek is a straight-up dick. Battlefield - As the title suggests, there’s war with no real context. And major character death. It’s sad. I genuinely made people cry with this. I am both proud and apologetic of that. Unreal - This is probably one of my more complex concepts, and I’m really proud of it. Features ooc Spock with contextual reasons I won’t spoil, defensive/protective McCoy and major character death of a sort.

What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending

This is kind of difficult, bc while I have excessively written angsty endings (see: above answer) I do usually write happy endings, and I can’t remember all 160 fic endings left over, and even then it’s difficult to rank them by happiest. I like Nutcase {Murdoch Mysteries: Watts-centric) a lot, oh and also Blame It On Me (Star Trek Pricard: Hughnor) which is angst with a happy ending (and has amazing art accompanying it). There are many others with happy endings, but like I said I have no idea how to rank them by “happiest”.

Do you write crossovers? If so, What is the craziest one you’ve ever written?

I don’t really, but I have written one as a request that I really really enjoyed. A Good Day is ThorBruce and is set in the DS9 era of Star Trek, in which Thor is a captain and Bruce is his chief science officer. It’s really adorable and features sleepy, over-worked Bruce and a very characteristically happy Thor.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

No, I don’t think so, unless you count unsolicited advice I felt I couldn’t turn down on ff.net when I was struggling to write Uhura. I’m kind of surprised I haven’t tbh (not that I’m complaining) since I do write for some very popular fandoms and ships (although, conversely, also some very niche fandoms and ships).

Do you write smut? If so what kind?

I write it but have only ever posted it thee, four times if you count the exploratory one I posted under a pseudonym that wasn’t really that smutty. I’m hoping to get the confidence up to post some of what I’ve written tho, bc I do really like hat I’ve managed to do with some of it.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not as far as I’m aware.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes, I have! A lovely person found my fic 1967, which is probably one of my favourite Spones fics I’ve written, based around the UK’s decriminalisation (well, partial) of homosexuality, and traslated it into Hungarian here. I’ve not been able to check it out, due to not knowing a thing in the language (tho I could probably ask my friend to) but the translator seemed really lovely, so I trust them to have done a good job.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not something I posted, but before I even started posting fanfic, me and my best friend really randomly started writing a Star Trek TNG x Star Wars crossover whenever they were at my house. We gave up on it after about a year and never wrote much for it, but it was... it was something.

What’s your all-time favourite ship?

This changes all the time with my hyperfixations! One that will always be in my heart is obviously Spones, my og ship and within my special interest. Currently I’m obsessed with The Witcher so I’ve got Geraskier on the mind but who knows when that might change!

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

In terms of fanfic I don’t really have any that I don’t think I’ll ever finish. I have an original script that I started writing months ago but only got about three scenes into and haven’t touched since bc I don’t actually have a plot for it.

What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue; Is situations one? That sounds like a good and fancy way of saying AUs; Finding synonyms should be one, that’s like half my search history

What are your writing weaknesses?

Description; Despite my talent of finding synonyms I feel like I do repeat words a lot; Planning and outlining, I just don’t do it - it works for me tho.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I’m pretty sure the only times I’ve really done it is for Jedtavius (having Oct speak in Latin occasionally) and I might have done it once or twice with Spock speaking Vulcan, both times it’s mostly terms of endearment or Oct wanting to be romantic. Idk, I don’t really care about reading dialogue in other languages as long as there’s a translation somewhere in the work or I can easily pick it up or search it. Just do whatever, it’s your writing. As long as you do it well and it makes contextual sense, I don’t really care.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Unposted: Star Trek: The Next Gen Posted: Sherlock (I actually recently reread my first ever posted fic, it’s a long haul (just over 45k), but if anyone ever wants to see a work where my writing visibly improves lemme know and I’ll email the pdf to you)

What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

Why would you do this to me??? I love most of my fics!!! I’m just gonna link a few here cause I’ve been doing this for an hour now and it would definitely take me an hour to choose just one! The Relationship Series - modern AU, autistic Spock (written by a self-projecting autistic writer), there’s angst spattered about but is especially prominent in part 6, I just really love this series Promises You Can’t Keep - Loki spoilers, I love this bc it’s based on “what if my finale theory was right instead of being debunked three minutes into the episode”, definitely angst with a hopeful ending I love all of my Charite At War fics, but I’m gonna link my 20 years post-canon fic Grow Old With Me and my modern AU You Give Me Your Light - both have some heavy topics (post-canon is set in 1960s East Germany, modern AU topics are tagged) but I adore both with my entire heart You’ll Never Burn - Merlin/Merthur, again kinda heavy (not as heavy as the Charite ones in my opinion) but short and everything is tagged I love all of my Babylon 5 fics but Secret Rendezvous will always have a special place in my heart. It’s very sweet and essentially follows Vir and Lennier trying to navigate coming out about their relationship to their ambassadors I also recommend all the of the fics I’ve already linked in the post ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now for the hard part - tagging!

I find it interesting but I think if they outright state it, it could be seen as sensationalizing DID by comparing it to scifi and could receive criticism. I hope you’re well, btw!

I’ll answer each of your questions one at a time. (Thanks for messaging!)

The nature of an introject alter is that they are based on a person or character who exists in the external world. Introjects can be “factives” (based on a real person – perhaps like Chief Jim Hopper) or “fictives” (based on a fictional character – like the Demogorgon or the Mindflayer.)

Therefore this means that, hypothetically, if there is an introject who is based on an original Jim Hopper that the Byers family knows, that there could hypothetically be scenes that are the “original” Chief Jim Hopper and then scenes that are a very different Jim Hopper who exists in internal worlds in the DID System. Some scenes might be one Hopper, and some scenes might be the other Hopper.

It’s important to keep in mind that when there is an introject alter based on a person that does not mean that the introject alter will behave and think and act exactly like the “original” that their identity was based on. Their mind subconsciously established a new alter and identity that knows themselves to be Jim Hopper, but that person will be totally different from who the other Jim Hopper is because they are truly not the same person. An alter of Jim Hopper might be based on one particular idea of who Jim Hopper is as a person, but alter-Hopper’s identity can also be heavily influenced by the DID System’s lived experiences and thoughts and sometimes even other people that they know too, and therefore the accuracy of that initial persona of alter-Hopper will be entirely dependent on the DID System’s interpretation of who they think Jim Hopper is.

So. Joyce! Hopper and Joyce. Within my current DID theory and meta I see a variety of possibilities regarding Hopper and Joyce’s interactions with one another as well as a variety of possibilities about Joyce’s character. We currently know her as Jonathan and Will’s mom. I did briefly touch on one hypothetical in which Joyce might not be, under all circumstances in the series, “mom” a few months ago but I haven’t discussed it extensively because it’s an idea that I doubt would be especially popular in the fan community and is very niche to my current thoughts on the series. You can read my speculation on “a Joyce who is not mom” in this blogpost here at this link. I do see it as hypothetically possible that there is a Joyce that is an alter. Hypothetically. There are many possibilities, but I do see this as one of many hypotheticals. I recognize this is a very controversial “what if?” and many will see it as highly unlikely, but the possibility that there is a Joyce who is not mom and that is perhaps a very well-loved and trustworthy person in the DID System’s life and who has an introject alter based on the “original Joyce” who might not be a parent but perhaps is, in the external world, a doctor or a nurse or a therapist that Will and Jonathan know as “mom” was something that I have considered. Maybe. Hypothetically. Perhaps.

I am working on a very long blogpost in which I’ll explore a handful of very different hypotheticals about Hopper’s character and my thoughts about his role as the “deeply flawed but protective dad” in the story as well as address my thoughts regarding his relationship with Joyce. Hopper’s dynamic with Will and Hopper’s dynamic with El are also very interesting to me, so I’ll definitely be exploring his relationship with each of them in that WIP blogpost as well.

I’ve avoided talking about Hopper and Joyce for a while because many of the hypotheticals that I’ve considered about their characters are rather incompatible with current popular fandom ideas about their relationship. I don’t really ship Jopper, but it’s arguably one of the most popular ships in the fan community. There are one or two scenarios in which I could see Jopper being “endgame” but there are a handful of hypotheticals in which I see them absolutely not being a couple at all. I’ll be discussing most of these hypotheticals that I’ve considered in the Hopper blogpost that I’m working on. Originally I wasn’t going to talk about Hopper at all until after season 4 because I was anxious about how my ideas might be received by the fan community, but given that even the most mundane opinions that I’ve expressed over the last year have resulted in me receiving a few angry anonymous messages I figured: screw it. If I can’t even ship Byler or like Bob Newby without getting a little bit of harassment and pushback from other fans then I may as well talk about whatever I want and share all of my ideas. So I will be finally sharing all of my ideas about Hopper and his relationship with Joyce, El, and Will. The blogpost I’m working on will probably take a while to finish but I hope to publish it before season 4 is released.

When I’m thinking about different theories and possibilities for what might be happening in Stranger Things I rarely feel as if there’s only one possible route for the story to take. Yes, I do at this point feel very confident that there is a meta narrative happening in the story and that not everything is as fans currently believe them to be regarding both the character relationships and what each character is dealing with, but the possibilities that exist within that are vast. I might suspect that Stranger Things is intended to be about a DID System, but this creates millions of possibilities for the route that the story could take. I might believe that I’m starting to notice certain consistent details that imply the Stranger Things universe is based on something that has a logic and structure to it, but that doesn’t mean that I’m suddenly psychic and can predict what will happen within that universe’s structure. The story is in the hands of the writers, and I’m eager to see where they take it.

David Haller, aka Legion, who was first introduced in the X-Men comics in 1985 and who has dissociative identity disorder and who has alters with mutant abilities) I personally currently theorize that all of the fantastical events that have happened in Stranger Things so far might be intended to have happened exclusively in internal worlds and not in the external world at all. Events that take place in internal worlds are not limited by the rules of physics and what is “real” in the same way that events that take place in our external world are. Events in internal worlds can be very metaphorical and fantastical because they exist within the mind. The scifi and fantasy elements of the story could, hypothetically, be directly tied to fantastical events that are not sensationalized but are truly accurate to the way that some (but not all) real DID Systems might process memories and trauma within their internal worlds. Internal worlds aren’t dreams, they’re much more vivid and consistently structured and they are often structured around real-world experiences that they’ve experienced, however I want to very loosely compare an internal world to a “dream world” in order to clarify why having fantastical events and monsters and characters with superpowers in an internal world would not necessarily be sensationalizing DID but rather portraying a realistic hypothetical. Telling a story that features internal worlds in a DID System in which fantastical events happen is not inherently sensationalization since fantastical events can and do happen in some real DID Systems’ internal worlds and that is not something that is exaggerated or fictionalized at all. What might seem unrealistic and fantastical to us might be very real for them and most especially for alters who spend significant amount of time in internal worlds. To alters that live in internal worlds exclusively and never front in the body the internal world is their real world and, comparatively, our world might feel very fictitious and unreal to them. But it’s definitely important to keep in mind that every DID System will be very different, and that any one example of a DID System isn’t necessarily comparable to others since their unique experiences will define the way that their System works.

The ethics of “should a popular show like Stranger Things be about DID” is a complex question and an important one, but I haven’t explored it extensively because I believe we do not currently have enough information regarding the approach and the resources that the production team and writers have taken in the creation of the Stranger Things universe and story in order to discuss those ethics at much depth quite yet. If the story is, in fact, about DID or a specific mental condition: did they consult with medical experts? Are any DID Systems directly involved in the production as consultants? Is this particular series entirely fictionalized or are certain plotpoints based on real DID Systems’ experiences? If they are not basing the events of the story on a “true story” then what are the ethics of creating an original story about a fictional DID System? I do believe it is important that creators make a conscious effort to be informed and ethical in their approach to storytelling that involves any real-world medical references, especially with regard to commonly misunderstood and misrepresented conditions like DID, but given the nature of Stranger Things and the way that I believe we are not yet aware of the “bigger picture” of what is happening in the story because the writers intend for it to be revealed in future seasons, I do not think we know enough of the context of the creation of the show in order to begin discussing those nuances. I think and hope that we will learn a lot more over the next few years as seasons 4 and 5 are released. The question of “should they” is a different topic than “are they,” however. Whether they “should” or whether they are doing it “well” will need to be discussed if and when we know if they actually are doing it and also once we know more about their creative approach to the subject matter and what resources they have used in the creation of the Stranger Things universe. I think the direction that the story takes next is also going to be important regarding the assessment of whether or not the story was written ethically, too. If they reveal, for example, that the story is about a DID System that has murdered people or done terrible things then I would immediately say “nope, that’s a misrepresentation and a continued stigmatization of a deeply misunderstood community and I see the story as being unethically done.” But we don’t know what will happen in season 4 and 5 yet. Thus far all I can say is that I believe the writers have effectively encouraged us, as fans, to deeply empathize with and care about El and Will and Hopper and everyone and that this gives me hope that whatever the story is about that the writers are taking an approach that is deeply respectful of those who are neurodivergent or dealing with mental illness like PTSD etc. They’re the heroes and survivors and they are not the villains. And that in itself matters very much. But I guess we will see what happens in next in the series and whether or not the story is about DID or is about something else entirely.

Summary: Three years ago, Kurt and Blaine went on a disaster of a date and never quite got off on the right foot. Now, just before they graduate from NYADA, there’s a national outbreak and they’re both self-quarantined in a mutual friend’s apartment.

Part 1

After jamming his shoulder against the edge of the door for what must be the tenth time, Kurt finally manages to budge it open.

He steps into the apartment—216, The Point Living Complex, on Cornelia Street—dragging behind him as much luggage as he could take with him when the school officials came to hurry him out of his dorm room. The fact that he still has to pay tuition and board for the rest of the semester even though there’s a high possibility he might not get to go back is utterly ridiculous.

This outbreak is wild and unreal and honestly even a little scary, but God bless Mercedes Jones, angel that she is. Kurt had called her in a panic when he’d been ushered out of his dorm. She knows the whole deal on why he can’t go home right now, and immediately offered her and Sam’s place up, since they had both evacuated back home to Ohio.

A faint rustling sound coming from the only bedroom catches his attention, and he’s immediately on alert. It’s possible that someone else looking for a place to stay broke in. Kurt swallows down his racing heart and clutches the spare key so that it sticks out between his knuckles.

Slowly, carefully, he creeps down the hall, not wanting to alert the intruder to his presence. He’s about to grab the doorknob to the bedroom when the door swings away from him.

The vaguely familiar looking curly haired guy behind the door drops his bowl of cereal, letting it clatter against the floor, before letting out a startled yelp.

Kurt responds with a scream of his own because he certainly wasn’t expecting to see someone in their boxers eating cereal in his best friend’s apartment.

“What the hell are you doing here, Kurt!?” The shorter one of them asks in a panic.

It takes a second, but when the initial shock clears up, Kurt finally recognizes his fellow NYADA student and—oh god, this could not get any worse, could it?

The one person he’s run into in days and it’s Blaine Disaster Date Anderson? He’s managed to avoid him well enough after their catastrophe of a first date three years ago, but now he runs into him?

He huffs, remembering to respond to Blaine. “As you know, the NYADA dorms are shut down. Mercedes said I could crash here,” he narrows his eyes at him. “What are you doing here.”

Blaine’s jaw drops, and they apparently come to the same realization at the same time. Sam and Blaine have been besties since high school (a fancy-pants boarding school, Kurt remembers with an eye roll), he and Mercedes are the ones who set them up in the first place. 

Blaine is self-quarantined here too.

“No,” Kurt murmurs, shaking his head. “Oh, god, no.” He buries his face in his hands. “Anybody else, it could have been anybody else.” Well, not anybody else. He supposes it could be worse; he could still be living with Adam.

Blaine scoffs. “Listen, I’m not too happy about this situation either. I didn’t know I’d be having a roommate for this crisis, and I certainly didn’t think it’d be you.”

“Whatever,” Kurt says dismissively. “It’s been a long day, I just want to shower and go to sleep—” with a groan, he remembers another glaringly obvious complication: there’s only one room, one bed. He sighs. “Since there’s only one bed, I guess we can just switch off. One day you, one day me, and the other will sleep on the couch.”

Blaine thinks it over for a moment, squinting his eyes in thought. “Or, since I got here first, I’ll take the bed, and you can take the couch indefinitely,” he says. He wrinkles his nose and gives a phony smile before shutting the door in Kurt’s face. 

Kurt hears the lock click into place and gapes for a second. He goes up to the door and starts banging on it, yelling, “Hey, that’s not fair, you dickwad!”

All he gets is a muffled, “I can’t hear you!” in response.

Kurt lets out a frustrated grunt.

Blaine Anderson is going to be the death of him, that is, if the coronavirus doesn’t take him first.

Blaine is absolutely certain that Kurt Hummel will bring about his demise, unless the damned covid-19 gets him first.

Their first night together had gone about as well as expected, and any regrets Blaine might’ve had three years ago about their failed date were completely squandered.

The morning doesn’t go any better.

Kurt’s frivolous morning skin-care routine takes an inordinate amount of time, and Blaine spends the better part of an hour holding in his pee and banging on the bathroom door, begging the other boy to please for the love of god let him in.

Now, they’re begrudgingly and silently crunching on some cereal—the only food available—when Kurt finally speaks up.

“Okay, so... we can’t live on Cookie Crisps forever,” Kurt says through a mouthful of them.

“Says you,” Blaine mutters. “What’s the alternative? Going to a grocery store? Have you seen the news? It’s a madhouse in those.”

“We can make a list, be quick, in and out.”

“I’m not quite sure you’re getting how this social distancing thing is supposed to work,” he says, bite in his voice.

Kurt huffs and narrows his eyes. “Believe me, I know how crucial it is... but if you and I get infected, we’ll be fine. We’re young and healthy. We just need to stay away from others who aren’t as lucky as us. As long as we stay in here after being exposed, we’re good because we’re not putting people like them in danger.”

Blaine stares at Kurt, mildly impressed. Many of Blaine’s own friends had thought he was being dramatic for not wanting to go home, that he was giving in to the panic of it all. Kurt seems to be taking it just as seriously as he is.

“Look, we don’t even have to be near each other after this. I’ll stay in the living room and you stay in the master... but it’s better we go out now rather than wait until there’s even less stock in the stores.”

The cereal—that Blaine also had for dinner last night—sitting in his unsatisfied stomach plays a big part in convincing him to go along with Kurt’s plan. He might be irritating as hell, but he’s got a level head.

“Alright,” he finally concedes. “Let’s get started on that list.”

everybody loves pretty, everybody loves cool is probably my fave i wrote in checkpls. i wrote a lot of character studies of jack and kent and their relationship that all said things i thought were important, but this particular one has a story structure i’m proud of.

i write a lot of self-indulgent nonsense in hockey fandom, but carried away is one of my faves of the genre. pure curtain fic with slight angst so i can really get In My Feels, what’s not to like.

Authors note: very much inspired by Tom Holland’s Spiderman whomst i LOVE and ADORE and very much self indulgent

-So, you all know the drill, bitten by a radioactive spider, get superpowers and suddenly you’re saving Queens from weirdos and saving cats for old ladies

-That was Mark Lee’s life, except well, he’s a high school senior with a secret identity

-The fact that he moonlights as a superhero makes him jittery at school when he can hear the kids talking about his latest romps as “spiderman”

-Part of him is really proud of what he’s achieved ever since that damn spider bit his hand about a year ago but also,,, if his older brother Johnny ever found out that he routinely threw himself off buildings (sometimes even for fun) well,,,, Mark doesn’t want to think about it

-So yeah, his makeshift hero getup was shoved under a loose floorboard of his bedroom floor that he swears to Johnny that it’s fine and they don’t need to get a repairman in to fix it

-Sure,, his outfit wasn’t much, just a hoodie with a spider motif sprayed over it and some lycra pants and shorts worn over it but it was practical and comfy and also very easily replaceable bc he could fish old things out of the junk or at charity shops 

-But after meeting Mr Stark, he got a super cool and exciting new SpiderSuit and it makes him feel very much like an official Avenger even if Mr Stark says he’s not

-Hiding his bruises and scratches from Johnny was extremely hard, especially when he had to come up with more and more outlandish excuses and he just smiles awkwardly as his brother got the first aid kit to wash out the grit from that ghastly cut on his arm

-Honestly, it was such a hard thing to keep a secret from his brother

-He was extremely close to Johnny, who took care of him and is now his legal guardian after their parents moved away and never got in touch with them again, so keeping such an important secret was the WORST thing for Mark

-He wanted to be so truthful to his brother who had sacrificed his whole life and career to look after Mark but he also enjoyed this other, somewhat glamorous life that he really enjoyed keeping a secret, it was something he didn’t have to share it with Johnny

-And as much as he loved Johnny, he was incredibly overbearing and involved in as many aspects of Mark’s life as he could 

-So, he just shut up and let Johnny rant about his day at work or let him fuss over him because that was way easier than trying to convince Johnny that it’s okay for him to be swinging around Queens or fighting Captain America and Black Widow in Germany (Johnny thought he was on a trip to Switzerland with Tony Stark to attend some kind of conference)

-But outside of his “superhero” world, Mark was the most uncool and nerdy kid you could imagine

-He loves physics and maths so much, studying in all of his spare time and making computer programmes and coding in his lunch break instead of going to the school cafeteria

-Thought, if he was being honest, if he actually went to the cafeteria someone would probably trip him up or knock the tray of food out of his hands “accidentally”

-(Not to mention, Johnny would pack him lunch to take with him that he normally he’d munch away at in his classroom, even if it wasn’t the best sandwiches he’d ever eaten)

-He had his enemies, picking on the nerdy, quiet, skinny boy seemed the best thing for the school bullies especially Flash but he was just kind of used to it now,,, besides if Flash ever found out if he was the Spiderman,,,, well,,, he’ll just keep it a secret for now

-But the thing he liked most about school

-You, his best friend ever since you bumped into him, knocking both of your trays out of your hands because you were too busy trying to balance your comic and food tray as you were navigating the cafeteria and you immediately apologised but Mark apologised even more until he saw your comic and got very excited that you read the same comics and since then you had been best friends

-You bonded over comics but you definitely didn’t know that your best friend was the Spiderman whom you ADORED and in actual fact you were a huge fan of the Avengers and absolutely gushed about them to Mark all the time

-Unbeknownst to you, Mark had only just returned from the airport where he made his “debut” in the Avengers thanks to Tony and did in fact kinda know them maybe he wasn’t sure on their actual relationship but he did like Mr Rogers even if he did have to fight him Mark has MAD respect for Mr Rogers

-He just let you gush about your love for the heroes, knowing that you admired him in not just his spidey persona but him in real life too

-It just meant that keeping it a secret from you even worse than from Johnny

-Like the amount of times he nearly accidentally revealed himself to be your favourite superhero was actually so unreal he’s more shocked that you haven’t actually figured it out yet

-But, of course, this is Mark Lee

-The nerdy, bashful, shy superhero with a blabber mouth and easily forgets the details of his normal life when he’s out superhero-ing

-So when he goes out one night, kicking some leftover cronies of the Vulture that still roamed the streets of Queens he swings in to his open bedroom building with a few cuts littering his face

-As he swings in, he rips off his mask and shrugged off his hoodie before trying to open the loose floorboard

-Trying is the keyword here

-Because lo and behold, you were actually stood on the floorboard holding your joint Lego project you’d been working on for weeks (a work in progress Millenium Falcon), mouth wide open as you realise that your best friend is actually the Spiderman

-“Uh… Y/N ? Please don’t drop the Millenium Falcon but uh, hi… I guess you figure it out… I’m Spiderman ?”

-“I hadn’t noticed thanks, wanna prove it?”

-“Um… shouldn’t you be more worried that I revealed my secret identity to you by complete accident?”

-“Shoot a web”

-And he does,,, much to your surprise as he bound your hands to the Lego, accidentally using a bit too much force and breaking some of the pieces off

-But to Mark’s surprise, you’re really not that shocked that he’s crusading as The Spiderman you had been admiring for ages and it really calms his anxiety about this whole situation because if there’s one thing Mr Stark taught him was to keep his identity a secret but knowing that you’re not that bothered and seem more interested in the biology and chemicals that the spider who bit him in the first place and the fact you wanted to meet Thor and Captain America

-With you knowing meant that Mark was way more relaxed and joking around about his nightlife, making everyone around you think that Mark had a badly behaved pet

-And sure, sometimes he rocked up to yours with serious cuts all over his arms and chest and he was so sure that you were going to turn him away and the fact that you kept a spare set of clothes and a first aid kit and cleaned up and made him sleep at yours that night, you soothing him as nightmares took over him

-He would always apologise in the morning and it made your heart break

-“Mark, you’re never a burden to me, if anything… I’m grateful you trust me so much so don’t ever, ever try to hide anything from me… I’m here for you both as Spiderman, but more importantly for you, Mark Lee, a kid from Queens”

-“Thanks Y/N”

-“So when are you introducing me to Thor, it’s been a while and it’s taking a toll on me to keep your secret…”

Dev Grant

We announced it a few days ago over on our twitter. But we have been awarded with the Unreal Dev Grant from Epic Games!

This means that a considerable amount of pressure has been taken off financially, which means we can get the ball rolling with things (mainly music and story illustrations) much earlier than we anticipated even before the crowdfunding starts!

Upcoming New Demo + Kickstarter Campaign

Currently a new demo is being prepared to coincide with our upcoming Kickstarter campaign. We’re still doing a lot of preliminary stuff regarding the KS campaign but the demo should be ready in a week or two.

Hopefully the demo will show our intentions when it comes to the game direction. It will showcase our current production capability with a fully voiced multi-role mission, and a slightly revised air to air mission which you should be familiar with if you’ve played the latest alpha. The next demo contain a higher degree of polish relative to the current demo at least (0.2.10c) and introduces a lot of QoL changes to gameplay. I’ll detail some of those on the current post and upcoming ones too. Be on the lookout!

Now, on to actual dev post.

Story/Campaign

The story for the campaign is outlined, we have discussed and have an idea on what we want to do with it. I’m not going to discuss the story too much with these dev logs but we have a lot of interesting things on our pipeline that you might appreciate. And of course the upcoming demo will reflect some of the stuff we’re trying to do for the campaign. 

Vegetation

I’ve always felt like the vegetation and ground details was rather lackluster in the game. Mainly it’s due to a lack of skill on my end. But considering the amount of detail I need for trees at flight level, it was much easier than i thought. Complete with LODs and imposters for trees that are further away.

I’m very happy with how they turned out and at this moment there is no performance impact in terms of frame rate to the current build so far.

Cockpit Revision

Major texture improvements has been brought to all the cockpits (all 2 of them) to the upcoming aircraft. I’m not the best texture artist around but hopefully you can appreciate the effort I’ve put into the cockpits of these glorious war machines.

Hangar

I’ve always intended to replace the hangar in the current demo with something else due to the current one being so lackluster that I’ve decided to scrap the entire thing. So here are some screenshots of what I’m currently trying to achieve with the new hangar. Keep in mind these pictures are still WIP and most objects are still untextured and unfinished.

In my opinion that would severly limit the “fast paced dogfighting” aspect of the game.

For me, its more or less the latter due to it mostly based on stuff that exists IRL. But there are some fictional designs already in the pipeline and for those I just do a basic outline sketch and see what kind of things i come up as I 3D model it.

It will be an arcade-style gameplay.

A few weeks. I’d like to get it out before end of September. Look forward to it!

Hey guys! I’m not dead yet don’t worry.

First, I’m so sorry it took so long for me to post another dev post. There’s a lot being worked on in the background that I can’t really show. Mainly story related and how the world in Project Wingman works. 

However, most of those things are out of the way now so you will definitely see more development related stuff coming now that I can get back to working on the game. And I must say it feels great to be able to post things like these again.

This was actually an idea I had a while ago, though I can’t promise if It will be implemented within reasonable time.

For me it takes around 5-10 hours to model a single aircraft. But this excludes rigging, UV mapping, texturing, and polishing. With all those it could probably add up to around 30-50 hours to create an aircraft. Highly dependent on its complexity.

Unfortunately no plans as of now. You can however shoot them down in the future. Does that count? :)

We’ll have to see. It was mostly an experiment so it does not have a high degree of polish yet (AKA right now it only works on giant flat surfaces). I will polish up the mechanic further as the game goes forward. 

No plans for Mac version at the moment. Sorry.

To be honest I don’t think so, at that point it’s pretty much a completely different game that requires different set of design principles which most already clashes with how Project Wingman is currently being built. It may be something I’ll explore for a future game, but as for now a fast paced arcade flight game is the current development roadmap.

I should really get a FAQ going haha.

I have a preliminary aircraft list at the moment. I’ll share those in the future. Regarding your requestion, the MiG-31and the Su-27  would be the closest thing we have in the preliminary aircraft list. We’ll have to see about the rest ;)

And yes, I’ll see what I can do about alternate skins.

If you’re interested, read this because context and understanding is important to each of them in different ways. The context document will give, like a blurb for each one and some explanations for how my personal dreamscape works (because things get confusing really fast and we all know that everyone’s dreamscape is different).

Got four different daydream flavors (keep in mind that all of these are WIP):

1. Escape From Furnace

note: Olaf is a known abusive character, just having him in a daydream requires several dangerous topics to be dealt with. This is the daydream I occasionally post about on my other blog (co-theta) about it completely wrecking me emotionally when I let myself get too deep into it. Excusing the EFF daydream, this is probably the most stressful one for me because Olaf is one of the most terrifying nonoriginal characters I have in my dreamscapes.

4. An Actual Original Daydream

I can’t remember anything else that might be an issue in any of them!
