This is just a nice little surprise for @heartvexer. Hi darling, here's some AU for you. ❤️
Tumblr media
Behold, one of the most cursed crackships of all time: our lovely Sukuna and his gremlin, Toge.
In this AU, Sukuna is Yuuji's twin; they're 21 and both got a sport scholarship— Sukuna for (American) football, Yuuji for basketball.
Toge is 22 and is majoring in zoology— He also has three minors, in music theory, American Sign Language (ASL) and Japanese Sign Language (JSL). He only chose JSL because he wanted that extra credit, otherwise he's fluent and isn't learning anything from his classes— Not that it's the professor's fault.
Sukuna is majoring in history and minoring in psychology and philosophy. Compared to Toge, who considers his minors as backup plans, Sukuna only has them as hobbies. Same for football, he's doing it because it's fun for now, not because he wants to become the best quarterback ever— Although he's the best in his team.
No one expected Sukuna and Toge to be dating. Not even them. It all started as a one-night stand at a party, then one month later Yuuji is crying to Megumi and Nobara about these two making out on his bed (Toge didn't know it was his. Sukuna obviously did).
They are surprisingly the healthiest couple on campus right now.
They've been dating for almost two years now. They still make out on Yuuji's bed whenever Sukuna's feeling like being an ass.
Sukuna is only nice to Toge. Which is cute, funny, and lowkey terrifying, 'cause what do you mean it's the 5'5" gremlin getting the 6'9" monster to behave?
Toge proudly wears lots of feminine, girly clothes, leaning on the kawaii fashion aesthetic. That, or he's going full punk. No in-between.
Yes, Sukuna calls him 'baby girl' as a joke. Yes, it's also an official nickname now.
Just to be clear, Toge is genderfluid and mostly uses he/him and they/them but also really likes feminine terms. He rarely uses she/her, though.
Sukuna almost snapped at a teammate who was misgendering Toge ("That's your girlfriend, Sukuna?" "Yup." "She's cute!" "He is, yes." The teammate messed up at least twice more before Toge had to calm Sukuna down).
Don't worry, now everyone gets it.
Sukuna and Toge, lovingly and mockingly nicknamed "Sukimaki" (because it sounds like "Sushimaki", AKA Toge's username on social medias), both have lots of tattoos and piercings. More on them in another post, probably. I have lots of thoughts.
Sukuna has been learning JSL, quite fast too, so he could speak with Toge whenever the latter goes non-verbal.
Toge has daddy issues, which, according to Sukuna, makes him great in bed.
Those two are insatiable, someone needs to inject some tranquilizer in their veins so they stop fucking like two rabbits in heat.
Toge clawed Sukuna's back so hard once that Sukuna got teased in the showers after training. Now everyone in the team whistles and howls whenever Toge comes watch Sukuna train.
Sukuna reaches Toge's chest when he's sitting down, and fully takes advantage of that to hide his face against Toge's breasts.
Toge has a small chest, very cute, and likes to show it off with corsets. Sukuna is smug about how cute he looks, but also has that ominous look if someone stares for too long. Toge's aware of it, but he likes pretending he's clueless— And Sukuna knows about it.
Toge is a pro at makeup, and loves going all out whenever there's a match— Especially for the football team. Since they've been dating for two years now, Sukuna can easily guess which makeup took time to do or not, and what's an easy fix or not.
When he didn't know better, he once accidentally smudged some of Toge's eye makeup while roughhousing a bit; Toge ended up crying and he got called an ass by pretty much everyone, "because he spent 5 hours getting ready for you". He's now very careful with Toge's makeup— Unless Toge teases him about it.
They both have to remind each other to "be nice" whenever someone annoying talks. It's surprisingly harder to get Toge to act nice.
Sukuna's a picky eater, so Toge cooks for him and makes him bento lunchboxes.
One day, Sukuna forgot his lunchbox and Toge brought it to him while he was training; everyone howled at them. All Sukuna did was sit down, bring Toge closer with an arm around his waist, then snap: 'Too single for your girlfriend to bring you food, losers?!' Everyone went silent.
Toge pretended to ignore everything by petting Sukuna's hair.
Sukuna originally wanted a minor in linguistics, but his high school teacher was a bit too enthusiastic about it. It made him give up that idea, but Toge buys him linguistic books from time to time; Sukuna blabbers about it after sex.
Toge only tells Sukuna he loves him through sign language. JSL has its own version of "I love you", but also uses the ASL version of it (🤟🏼). When Toge showed him, Sukuna forgot his braincells and asked 'Are you a metalhead? Or Spiderman?'
Toge chuckled awkwardly and explained the meaning to him. Sukuna never felt dumber— Is that what being Yuuji feels like?
Toge told him to forget about it and Sukuna simply redid the sign. They do it from time to time now, always hidden though— It's a private thing.

HC: Taiga, Tatsuya & Alex are all fluent in sign language. Especially Alex, who is fluent in multiple SLs, whereas Taiga & Tatsuya only fluent in ASL & JSL.
this is such a cute headcanon, and i agree, alex is a language genius lol
i imagine tatsuya would enjoy teaching people sign language, while kagami also wants to, but easily gets pissed off with somebody if they don't know what they're doing lmao (as if he can say anything with that ova lol)

So I've tried to research this question myself but haven't found a good answer. If writing about someone who isn't Deaf/Hearing-Impaired, Mute or related to someone who is any of those things but still is learning ASL or any of its foreign equivalents (FSL, JSL and so on) in an at least semi-self-taught manner, what are your recommendations for how they get their name-sign? In other words, how do you go about finalizing your name-sign if you don't necessarily having a mentor who isn't Hearing?
Hi!
First let me nitpick something real quick before I get to the core of your question... you may not have meant this, but I still want to make something clear regardless, due to your wording.
Other sign languages such as French Sign Language, Japanese Sign Language, etc, aren't "foreign ASL", like " French/Japanese/Italian version of ASL" or whatever. They're their own distinct sign languages, coming from different sign language families. (Well actually, ASL is closest to LSF as some of it actually originated with LSF, thus is a part of the same sign language family but much of it is not similar anymore as these languages diverged long ago. It's kinda like English being close to German and thus sharing the same language family, etc.)
I've personally never seen anyone call other spoken languages such as French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, etc etc as "foreign equivalents" to English... would you think that they are? Or are they entirely separate languages in their own right, which might share some similar features with English (such as certain words or grammatical features, etc)?
I would just say "other sign languages".
---
Anyways. Back to the main point. So, basically, the character you're writing is a hearing person, who is learning ASL on his/her own, right? Okay so.... if they're just studying ASL on their own and doesn't have Deaf friends or connections to the Deaf community, then they simply aren't going to have a name sign.
Name signs are very much a Deaf community & a Deaf cultural thing. It is something that can only be given to a hearing person, from a Deaf person. A hearing person can't give themselves a sign name. A hearing person can't give another person a sign name. Or at least, they should not. They simply do not know enough about the language or the culture or the community.
Bottom line, a name sign is a gift that is given to someone who is (or was previously) not a member of the Deaf community-- i.e. an outsider. A hearing person having a name sign is a sign that: 1) They have a relationship with the Deaf community. 2) They know someone who is Deaf. Could be a friend, a family member, a teacher. They are/were close enough with them to receive a name sign. 3) Whoever gave them a name sign acknowledged them. Etc etc. Basically, they're a potential friend.
Name signs are actual names in ASL (or any other sign language). There are also rules to the decision making of name signs as well, so this is another reason why only Deaf native signers should give them. We can usually tell if a hearing person was the one who gave a name sign (i.e. they give a "name sign" which, unbeknownst to them, is in a very unusual location, or means a word in ASL such as lazy or a curse word, etc...) so yeah.
A name sign is representative of who the person is. It may refer to their personality, their appearance, their mannerism, their interests, etc. Basically, their characteristics & who they are and how they appear to other people.
So.... again, if you don't have any Deaf friends or connections to the Deaf community, then you aren't going to get a sign name. You need to interact enough with the Deaf community and develop some genuine relationships, then it's likely that you'll be spontaneously given a name sign.
If you are wanting a name sign for your character, then honestly, you're going to need to find a Deaf person and consult them about it.

Bello Licentiae Chapter 10: Quirks and Quirks
Summary:
tw: panic attack, emotional abuse/manipulation, blood, fight, assault, audism Akira finally confronts Midoriya, and the canon starts to diverge 'text' JSL Text thoughts
Akira grinned as Aizawa confirmed they were considering making work studies available for first years. Even if he was against the idea. 1-A had run into enough villains and dangerous situations for their first two years combined. It'll be good to work with Amajiki and Taishiro again, though. Excitement bubbled up in the room to a hushed murmur, mindful as they'd learned to be of Aizawa's long night patrols.
When Yamada pranced into the room, Akira also found themself looking forward to having classes with him in the morning this term. Since they were already fluent in English, they requested Anii to interpret Yamada's teaching to help them learn ASL through immersion in addition to the old textbook Yamada gave them.
Yamada handed out the syllabus for Yaoyorozu and Ida to distribute as he verbally went over it. Akira scanned through what was mostly the same structure as their first term. Halfway through, their heart picked up at the essay assignment. Subtly glancing about, only Midoriya and Katsuki seemed interested in the document at all.
When no one raised their hand for questions, Akira cautiously raised theirs. He's safe. We're safe. Focus on the question not them staring. Dark Shadow settled on their lap with a soft purr, letting their heart slow a bit as they committed to the action.
Surprise flitted across Yamada's face before he grinned and enthusiastically asked, "Yes, Mori?"
' Are there any constraints on the subject of the essay? And is there an upper page limit? ' Akira signed in JSL.
"Keep it school appropriate, yeah?" Yamada beamed, bouncing slightly in excitement. "And no, just make sure it's at least two pages. Also, if any of you get worried about taking on too much, I'd be happy to go over your topic and help narrow it down." He added with a twinkle in his eye, "For the record, the fall of Rome is usually a bit much."
That night, Akira approached Midoriya after dinner. ' It's time to talk. Where would you be most comfortable? '
"Uh," Midoriya stuttered, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. "Is the roof okay? It's almost curfew."
Akira shrugged indifferently, glad he at lesat understood the conversation was private. ' Sure, I'll let sensei know so he doesn't worry. ' At his confusion, they added, ' He gets notified when the roof is accessed for safety reasons. '
"O-oh, right," Midoriya flushed with embarrassment as they rode the elevator up. He shifted from foot to foot, wringing his hands while his gaze kept darting between them and the doors. Occasional tiny flashes of green sparked across his skin but immediately faded.
When they finally reached the top, Akira double-checked that Aizawa had seen the message before waving at the security camera and opening the door. They let out a slow breath as they ran through what they wanted to say again. ' First off, I should recognize that I did assume you went through forced quirk manifestation. '
Midoriya frantically shook his head, opening his mouth but snapped it shut at a glance. 'It lined up with what I could see, but that was technically an assumption on my part. Up until now, you haven't directly lied to me, so I ask that you don't try to now. '
Midoriya opened and closed his mouth a few times before descending into a mutter storm. Akira could only catch a few words here and there about what they might know.
When he started tapering off after a few minutes, Akira gave a small wave to catch his attention. ' All for One told me about the history of One for All and how All Might passed it to you. '
"I... he... what?" Midoriya stammered as the color drained from his face.
' I was angry before because I thought you understood, ' Akira explained. ' I thought you knew what the torture was like and how the feeling of otherness only intensified when you finally triggered a quirk. Our bodies aren't built to house quirks, so the drawbacks tend to be more severe. '
"Have you told anyone else?" Midoriya asked, eyes frantically searching the darkness.
' Not really, Sparkles already figured you were Quirkless growing up, but he was, too. I needed an example that wasn't me. About One for All? No, it's not my secret to share. ' Akira hesitated, not sure if it was their place. ' You should really tell sensei, though. You need someone on your side, and All Might is the one who placed such a terrible burden on a fourteen-year-old. '
"But I wasn't even supposed to tell Kacchan, and now you know, and oh kami," Midoriya started hyperventilating as tears welled up. "He's going to kill me. What if he demands it back? What if he..."
Akira gently pulled Midoriya into a hug as he broke down, putting one of his hands on their sternum so he could try to match their breathing. They lowered the overwhelmed kid to the rough floor as he tried to calm down. Helplessness washed over them, unable to talk through sensory grounding as he broke down. Forcing themself to focus on what they could do, Akira gently pulled his other hand away from tugging at his hair and rubbed small circles on it. Shudders wracked his frame as his eyes glazed over.
' You with me, Broccoli? ' Akira asked after a while when Midoriya's breathing started to even out and his eyes refocused some. They slowly let go as Midoriya focused on his hands and his cheeks flushed in embarrassment. ' You don't have to tell sensei, but he genuinely wants to help. ' They huffed and ducked their head slightly, ' He's actually worried about you. '
Midoriya's eyes went wide and started to glisten again. "He shouldn't be, I'm fine!" He gave one of his trademark sunshine smiles, but Akira just gave him a flat look and looked pointedly at where they were sitting. Midoriya wilted and fiddled with the hem of his t-shirt. "All Might said not to tell anyone. It'll put them in danger."
Akira snorted, ' Trust me, any danger that would be added from that knowledge is a drop in a lake compared to what he faces on a daily basis. Not to mention the danger from multiple long-term operations. ' Their expression softened as Midoriya frown deepened, expression still worried. ' You'd be surprised how much he can help. He'd want to know. '
Midoriya nodded slowly but still hesitated, "But All Might..."
Fuck All Might. Akira took a deep breath and just managed to keep their expression neutral. 'If you're that worried about his reaction, you need another adult to know. If you'd rather tell another adult, that's fine, but you need a support system beyond other students. That's not fair for anyone, especially you, and this is a massive responsibility.'
"What if he hates me?" Midoriya muttered, barely loud enough for Akira to catch.
' He didn't hate me, ' Akira signed gently but firmly.
"That's different, you didn't lie to him for months," he protested, hands gesturing widely as doubt swam in his eyes.
Right, he doesn't know. Akira looked away for a moment, worrying their bottom lip as they searched for the right words. Shoving aside their discomfort, they met Midoriya's gaze with a guarded one, ' There's a lot you don't know about me. If he didn't hate me after what he found out, he won't hate you. '
The next day when class broke for lunch, Akira paused as Mad Banquet was walking out, feeling eyes on them from behind. They turned around to see Aoyama trailing a few paces behind the group. He was usually one of the first out of the room, so Akira cocked their head and asked, ' Is something wrong? '
Aoyama looked around then brightened. "Can I sit with your group today?" The sparkles around his head flashed brightly, but his eyes held a hint of desperation as he shifted from foot to foot.
Akira looked to the group, who shrugged. ' Sure, we usually sit outside when the weather's not unbearable. ' Once Aoyama caught up to the group, they continued to the cafeteria. Akira skirted along the edge to wait outside as the others grabbed food, one of the campus strays keeping them company in exchange for pets and morsels of the group's lunches.
"I thought I—"
Akira warped away as they slashed shallowly towards the wall, capture scarf rising and heart hammering in their chest. They blinked rapidly at the lack of people and scanned the area, eyes darting back and forth as their clone remained in a defensive stance. Moments later, they sharply turned to the cafeteria door, only to relax and drop their clone as Togata sheepishly walked out.
"Sorry to startle you," Togata smiled sheepishly. "Tamaki wanted to know if you're still planning on doing your work study with Fat Gum."
' Of course, ' Akira signed as they sheathed their knife and commanded their capture scarf to settle back into looking like a scarf. They scanned his face for cuts, fortunately finding none as they assumed he phased in time.
"Well, I should go let him know," Togata smiled brightly before jogging away past Mad Banquet.
"What was that about?" Aoyama asked, looking over his shoulder at the older boy disappearing into the crowd.
' Work study. ' They focused on evening out their breathing, and after handing them their food, Dark Shadow wrapped around them. They started purring, which brought a small smile to Akira's face.
The group started talking about where they'd be going, Fumikage surprising the rest by continuing with Hawks. Dark Shadow insisted the hero would start working with them now that they'd proven themselves. Akira wasn't so sure about that but knew they would stand up for themselves at least.
Aoyama quietly added he'd stay with Yoroi Musha. The quiet hero was generally considered stoic by the general populace, but he could be almost negligent at times in his complacence and pursuit of peaceful resolutions. But a less chaotic environment would probably do Aoyama some good.
Hitoshi obviously stayed with his dad, but Koji and Shoto were considering other options.
' Wash was great, but I want to learn more about the intelligence field, ' Koji explained. ' It's so small, though, and I need to figure out whether any of them would take first years. '
Hitoshi nodded thoughtfully, "Eraser often works with the Nighteye agency, and I've seen Togata there a few times. That might be a good starting point."
' He's got a good track record, and Yellow Sun could get you a foot in the door, ' Akira added. ' Peppermint, Present Mic could be good for learning control over your fire side. He helped Electric Rat a lot, and his own quirk requires a lot of control. '
"Perhaps. I'm changing my hero name," Shoto said.
"Oh?" Aoyama piped up after being mostly quiet. "What are you considering?"
"Mercury."
Akira immediately perked up, eyes sparkling as they cocked their head. ' Like the Roman god? '
Confusion crossed Shoto's face as he frowned, "No, like the metal." Akira deflated but nodded. "What is Mercury the deity of?"
Akira immediately launched into an explanation of the god as Hitoshi tried to keep up with interpreting. The bell for lunch ending startled them out of the rant as they abruptly stopped signing, clamping down harshly on their lip. ' Sorry, ' they signed before quickly downing the rest of their rice.
"If you can indulge our interests, we can indulge yours," Fumikage said, an amused undertone turning into a soft trilling hum at the end.
With Midoriya back in class, Aizawa went over some of the details for work studies. He brought in the Big Three to introduce themselves, and Akira noticed Midoriya tense as Togata stepped in. Maybe they've met before? He was difficult to read from behind, and Midoriya wasn't muttering for once.
Akira winced sympathetically when Aizawa asked Amajiki to start the introductions. They leaned slightly into the aisle to catch his eye and sign, ' Talk to just me? ' Akira gave a slight smile, but after fixing the class with a hard stare, Amajiki turned into the wall and let Hado take over introductions.
"This is the flea, Tamaki Amajiki," Nejire lightly teased. "And then, I'm Nejire Hado."
Akira sighed and looked to Aizawa as she quickly got side-tracked asking rapid-fire personal questions about several students without waiting for them to answer. Activating Erasure, Aizawa turned to Togata and ground out, "Isn't this lacking rationality?"
Akira let their head drop into their hand as they stared up in disbelief at the complete lack of stage presence between the three as Togata tried to wrap up the presentation with jokes that fell flat. Aizawa also seemed mystified by the confused tilt to his head and subtle tension in his shoulders.
"...Why don't you all fight me at once?" Mirio finished as Amajiki lifted slightly off the wall in thinly-veiled confusion. Hado finally stood up from next to Ojiro's desk.
Aizawa's hair shifted to cover the side of his face towards the classroom as his posture slightly opened into almost curiosity. "Do what you want."
While the Big Three walked with the class to one of the gyms, Akira drifted closer to them. ' Yellow Sun, where's your hero costume? '
"Oh, I didn't want to give myself an advantage," Togata beamed with a twinkle in his eye.
Akira stared in disbelief. They glanced at Amajiki, who just shrunk in on himself with a small shrug. ' So... you're going to expose yourself instead? ' Akira hesitantly signed. Sure, he was Amajiki's friend, but his idealism kept him from seeing the corruption in limelights... ' Your costume's primary function is phasing with you, so what's the advantage? You are technically an adult. '
"It provides some protection, but you do make a good point," Togata's smile turned a bit sheepish. "Aizawa-sensei, I'm going to grab my costume but will be back shortly."
While they waited for Togata's return at the gym, Midoriya called a huddle. "Against an upperclassman, we should try to strategize. Is anyone familiar with his quirk?"
Akira offered, ' Sort of, it seems to be a Breaker or Changer quirk that allows the user to phase through substances. He also uses mixed martial arts during his first two sports festivals. It was unclear whether his quirk allows all material or just inorganic to pass through while active. '
"That's what I was thinking, too," Midoriya grinned. "I haven't reviewed this year's footage yet, though, so does anyone have an update on his progress?" He was greeted with silence, and Akira shook their head. Between, well everything, it was pretty understandable. "Melee fighters should swarm him, go for quirk- and organic-based attacks first to identify weak points. Ranged, do short bursts of your quirk since longer activations might obscure the area as they hit the concrete behind Togata-senpai.
Mori, do you have your speaker on you to call out observations?"
Akira nodded with a grimace, ' Still working on speed and accuracy, but it's an option if visibility is low or if I'm invisible. '
"I won't be joining," Shoto announced. At Akira's confused look, he continued, "I don't have my Provisional License, so don't deserve the opportunity."
Midoriya jumped in before Mad Banquet could, "That's ridiculous, this would be great practice for you. Especially since your quirk is so versatile!"
Akira added, ' If you're worried about spacing, you can focus on creating taller areas like the concrete pillars for our ranged fighters. '
As Le Million strolled in, Mercury nodded. Amajiki turned slightly to follow Le Million with his eyes as he lamented how they could have just described their work studies. "We can't end up with kids who are unable to recover after this."
Mortis heard Alien Queen's discomfort as they turned towards Hado's voice and immediately warped to their sides, pulling Alien Queen to her feet away from the enthusiastic girl. ' Refrain from touching people without their permission, ' Mortis sharply signed as Alien Queen shuddered.
As the two walked back to the group, Hado stood and continued, "If you don't think things through properly, this'll be rough. Really rough."
"There's a handicap in place, but we've fought pros before," Tsukuyomi said, eyes widened slightly.
"And we've fought with villains before, too," Red Riot added eagerly. "Do we look like such weak small fry to you that you need to worry about us?"
Unphased, Le Million asked who would be first. Aizawa called out before they could start moving, "This is a good chance for all of you. Make sure you get the most out of this experience!"
With a nod to Mercury, Mortis activated their coms and warped, multiplying their clones forward to create a barrier of organic material. Mercury quickly raised several pillars of ice of varying heights, each carrying a few of their ranged fighters as well as stairs and slides for mobility.
Amajiki abruptly turned from the wall with a frown at the numerous clones, watching them with open concern. Now that their first task was in progress, Mortis padded over and pressed a note into his hand reading "found a workaround, don't worry about it." He frowned, reading the note a few times before slowly nodding.
With that, Mortis warped onto the nearest ice pillar and noted Le Million's disappearance. "He warped?" they heard from their left as Creati screamed from between pillars. Mortis looked over just in time to see Le Million land a hard hit on her back, incapacitating her.
Dark Shadow shot forward, and Mortis just barely saw their target slipping into the ground. They swarmed their clones around Tsukuyomi and called out "Hover!" at the same time as Deku did. A moment later, one of their clones was dispelled from the force of Le Million shooting through it. The upperclassman stumbled slightly in surprise, buying Tsukuyomi enough time to get off the ground with Dark Shadow.
It looked like Le Million said something to one of the clones, but Mortis couldn't quite catch it from their distance. In response, they pressed their clones forward while calling out, "Off ground! Cloud formation."
Mercury added disk extensions to each platform, and Uravity dashed toward the groups. A few more clones down, Mortis searched the area for Le Million's next attack as Deku charged toward Uravity with Ingenium hot on his heels. They sent half of their clones towards Uravity while the others spread out again, multiplying a few more times from the first two levels to reduce the area Le Million could reliably emerge from.
Just as Uravity floated herself and Deku, Le Million surged out of the ground and snatched the latter's foot. He had to quickly let go, though as Uravity released and Deku swung a kick at his arm. Le Million retaliated with a punch to his gut, slamming him winded to the ground. Level with the platforms, Uravity waited for Mercury to melt the first disk's connection to the pillar before floating it and moving it away just as Le Million shot up the middle one.
"Middle!" Ingenium called out. Mortis warped onto the now free-floating disk with Twinkling, Alien Queen, and Earphone Jack. Mortis threw their clones at Le Million, letting them fall when they phased through. He caught one of them, which Mortis quickly took direct control of to shoot out their capture weapon. Le Million yelped and quickly phased through it, buying Uravity and Mercury enough time to break the second platform away with Siren and Cellophane.
Pulling out of their clone, Mortis let it be dispelled by the capture weapon. They heard a soft, pained "Mirio?" and immediately whipped around to look at Amajiki, who just looked confused.
"Tama-" Le Million started to say, also turning before going slack.
Siren grinned and lowered their voice modulator. He grimaced and quickly said, "Surrender."
Everyone let out a breath, and Hitoshi released Togata as Shoto made ramps for those on the two free-floating platforms. Hitoshi coiled tightly, ready to move as Togata blinked back to awareness in confusion. He broke into a wide grin, "That was clever, Shinso! Good fight, everyone."
Hitoshi visibly relaxed, Sero clapping their shoulder in a hearty congratulations. Akira dispelled the rest of their clones as they warped next to a beet red Amajiki. ' Sorry, probably should have said something before we started, ' they signed sheepishly.
"It's alright," Amajiki murmured, blushing harder as Togata emerged next to them.
"That's such a powerful quirk!" Kirishima called out as the class approached and Akira backed off to stand with them.
"You're strong enough to slip through things and can even warp?" Uraraka asked in awe.
"Yeah, are you a hybrid like Shoto?" Ashido added excitedly.
Akira and Deku shook their heads, ready to correct them when Togata took over. "No, just one! What you guys called a warp was an application of Permeation." He went on to explain how he gave the appearance of warping.
"So you're able to avoid all attacks and move wherever you like in an instant. It really is a strong quirk," Tsu remarked. "It's similar in application to Mori's, isn't it?"
"No, I made it into a strong quirk," Togata corrected as he explained the difficult drawback.
Akira's hand twitched, and they looked to Amajiki questioningly. They didn't have much in their entry for Togata since he didn't stand out enough for there to be many videos. He nodded with a small smile, so Akira made a few additions to his entry, including confirmation of the DNA-infused costume and the applications he mentioned.
"It's disrespectful to be doodling while Togata-senpai is presenting!" Ida harshly said from their side.
Akira barely spared him a glance, gesturing him off with their head while they finished an additional question to ask Togata. Tucking the journal back into their pack, they turned to the class president with a flat stare. ' It's code, not doodles. I analyze quirks like Broccoli. Pay attention. '
That evening, Akira was getting ready for bed when they saw a shimmer of purple on the ground outside their window. Stepping onto the balcony, they saw a brown package on the porch and warped down. Seeing their name on it, Akira shrugged and warped back up, dispelling both clones. They opened it on the balcony just in case and grinned at the book inside, Complete works of Catullus (Illustrated) . Tucked into the first page lay a frenzied, blood-stained note. Akira went rigid, dropping the book as they stared in shock. "Met with Shie Hassaiki went sideways. Payment. Details tomorrow."
Notes:
What's been your favorite moment in this fic series? What's been your least favorite? At the time of writing this, my favorite is really any scene with Dadgum. My least favorite to write is scenes with the League (it's just so many goddamn people) and in general the provisional exam. Just wish there was a better way to showcase Akira in those moments, but they're too efficient for the first half and discriminated against in the second. There are also a couple scenes in Libertias aut Mortis that were really rough to write, I actually physically can't read part of one because of my protectors. So third years... 17-18 right? Mirio's 18 when Unrivaled happens. Yeah no, I decided to fix that whole issue. Also, I rewatch scenes while writing them to make sure I'm capturing the important bits and the right undertones for scenes. Mina's blushing while Hado plays with her horns. That makes me wonder if her horns are like Twi'lek head tails and bird wings. Did she not know before then? Also why do the horns move?? Unless they're an attachment, they shouldn't be that easily moved back and forth. For any curious, I'm using a reddit thread titled An Unofficial Timeline of BNHA for order of events. Catullus is my friend's favorite Roman poet, and he has some hilarious poetry. Most of it is not meant for minors, but it is funny. The illustrations in the book mentioned are not explicit as far as I'm aware.

Having existential crisis over Blizzard putting Kiriko behind a paywall 💀
Like, I was very well aware of existence of Overwatch ever since it came out. Purely because I loved Hanzo x McCree art and obviously Hog and William. But I did not know that *ALL* characters are behind challange unlocks and that Kiriko is your special little gurl that is behind a fucking paywall.
I don't like her because I'm a weebo. I like her because she signs (I'm not sure whether that was JSL or ESL or ASL, because my knowledge of ASL is limited to literally 3 signs) to a little girl in the cinematic.
And I wouldn't be complaing but Blizzard has absolutely dogshit transaction systems and especially the exchange value and they will charge me euros. If I buy a pass to unlock ninja girl, I will literally never pay it off till the heat death of the universe. Plus, right now, it's hard to justify purchase of a champion in a game I utterly suck at.
But again can we talk about putting a champion behind a paywall. And not behind in-game currency pay which would make sense, no. We're talking about actual real life coin. Like, what are you smoking? And don't even come at me with the "overwatch is free now they have to make money somehow". League is free since forever and all you pay for is cosmetics, and given that they've been going for almost what? 14 years? You can say it works out for them. Whole champion is not cosmetic. Blizzard is just high as fuck beyond human comprehension.
To be fair, necromancers in Diablo 3 are also paywalled class and hugely and exorbitantly expensive paywall at that. But legitimately who gives a fuck about necromancers. Witch doctors are better at the minion controlling sets and the whole death and pestilence themes are handled so poorly. Necromancers have like 12 unique items to them, most of them utter dog shit, you're out of your mind if you think I'll pay for one class almost 40 euros.

If requests are still open could you maybe write something for Hizashi/Present Mic? A new hero(with a quirk of your choice), whose helping to teach at UA. They’re partially deaf and they will sometimes sign back and forth with him. Maybe something fluffy where the reader is across the hall and asks him out on a date? And he starts getting flustered and his class is so confused bcus they don’t see his crush signing at him? Thank you! If not, i understand. Have a good day!
AHHHHHH, I HAD LIKE HALF OF THIS WRITTEN AND THEN I ACCIDENTALLY DIDNT SAVE AND EXITED THE APP. AHHHH
BUT I LOVE YOU ANON FOR REQUESTING PRESENT MIC!!!! I HOPE YOU ENJOY
(I totally meant to post this when I first got it, buuuttt I had a bunch of essays to do, I hope you like it!)
A Friendly Hand
Warnings: not really? Idk ASL or JSL very much tho
Pairing(s): Hizashi Yamada/Present Mic x Reader/Pulse
You had always looked up to Present Mic, the voice hero who defied what it meant to be a voice hero. He was partially deaf, just like you, and earned a career as a teacher, Pro-Hero, radio show host, and he’s a singer. You look up to him because he can do it all and doesn’t let his disability slow him down or stop him. You admire that about him, you admire him in general.
As a hero from America, there’s a lot of stigma about people with disabilities- even quirk related ones. You struggled from day one to get recognized as a hero, you already had hearing problems as a child and when you’re quirk was developing it only got worse. You can’t have sonic propulsion as a quirk and not expect a side effect that didn’t affect your hearing. Sonic booms from space shuttles could render a human permanately deaf and your quirk rivaled those sounds, so it was no wonder your hearing got progressively worse as you got older. Which just made it harder to be a hero, if you can’t communicate with your team, how are you suppose to work effectively?
But you didn’t care, you were going to be a hero no matter what. You took extra precaution to wear noise cancelling headphones, you worked with another hero who could link your team together so no verbal communication was required, you had a speech pathologist who helped with your speaking, and a pair of hearing aides for when you weren’t working. It’s a lot of work, but you were determined to be like Present Mic and follow your dreams.
Which is why you were so happy when all the struggle you’ve been through to be an amazing hero has finally paid off. Even with all the setbacks and the struggles to establish yourself a hero, you’ve done it. You’ve been invited to become a teacher at U.A. High School in Japan. THE hero school of hero schools! Many great heroes have graduated from U.A. and you’re incredibly honored to even be considered as a teacher there. Of course, you readily accepted and started to make preparations for moving. This included learning JSL, or Japanese Sign Language, so that you could communicate while you learned Japanese. Which, you knew, was going to be difficult. You can speak English, but pronunciation and volume control is still hard for you, which means pronouncing words in a language you don’t know will be even harder.
You can do it, though, you’ve pulled off greater feats in your life so far. Plus, you were going to meet your personal hero! You couldn’t just give up on learning a new language because it was hard, you were going to be an exceptional hero- just like Present Mic!
Settling into your new life at Japan didn’t take that much time surprisingly, you were mostly using the time you had before you would start helping to teach to get accustomed to the language and customs. You didn’t want to offend anyone and you needed to learn the language to communicate with others. Though, you figure if you really need the help you can hire a translator while you’re still learning, but first you wanted to try on your own. Which proved to be really difficult and by the time the start date of your new job at U.A. rolled around you felt wholly unprepared to communicate with others.
You could’ve cried you were so frustrated with how unsuccessful learning JSL had been, you stare at the books in front of you, willing them to make more sense or to magically transfer all the knowledge to you. A part of you wishes that was your quirk instead of the one you have. No, you thought, I can’t think negatively about this. It just means you need to work harder, you can do this.
Today, well, today was just going to suck as you struggled to communicate with others. You hope that at least one of them knows English enough for you to verbally communicate if that is what it takes. As you arrived at U.A. you were astonished by the size of it all, it was beautiful and definitely lived up to the name of being the number one hero school. You feel yourself getting giddy again and ignoring the complications of communication for now.
The badge that had been mailed to you was fished from your purse and you held it up to the gate where it scanned you in. You exhale softly as you prepare yourself to meet your new coworkers and mentors. You take the plunge and never look back.
And you’re glad you didn't let your struggle to communicate hinder you from accepting one of the most rewarding jobs right after being a Pro Hero. Looking back six months ago you would not have guessed you could integrate seamlessly with Japanese Pro Heroes, but that doesn’t matter now. You were now the assistant English teacher at U.A. and held an elective Japanese Sign Language course. You’re so proud of all the progress you’ve made and if you were being honest, you owed half that success to your personal hero.
Present Mic, or Hizashi as you call him now, instantly understood the struggle you had with communicating with them all and stepped in to help you. As someone who knew JSL, ASL, English, and Japanese he was more than capable of helping you out. Principal Nezu decided that it was best you accompany Hizashi as his assistant teacher- which worked perfectly for you because you’re native tongue is English. If there was ever a man you respected, admired, and loved more than Hizashi it had withered away when he offered his help. From then the two of you had become the best of friends and constantly going out with each other as well as sharing inside jokes.
Which is what leads you to today. You’ve been thinking about it a lot and you have come to the decision that you want to ask Hizashi on a date, as more than friends, and you’re going to make that happen today. You had to plan it perfectly, you didn’t want your intentions misread and you certainly didn’t want to risk NOT asking him and chickening out for the rest of your life. As you got ready that morning before school would start a plan formed in your mind and took action.
First step: stop by the store and get a little statue to Ebisu, the Japanese Shinto god that was said to be deaf
Second step: ask Shouta for a pair of Hizashi’s headphones (you know that man has a few somewhere)
Third step: wait for your free period and set up the headphones and statue on his desk in the teacher’s lounge with a picture of the two of you
Fourth step: AVOID Hizashi until your next period with him
Fifth and Final step: ask him out in ASL when he inevitably looks at you questioningly after step three and four
As the day progressed your plan was in perfect motion and by the time your last class of the day with Hizashi rolled around. You know from Nemuri and Shouta that Hizashi has been trying to find you since fourth period, but you skillfully avoided him. Nothing could ruin your plan and if you were honest if something were to ruin it, you would be greatly discouraged to follow through with it all.
So! You avoided Hizashi until it was finally sixth period. You were in the classroom first with all the students and setting yourself up in the back of the class to watch over the students as they took a quiz. It took a moment for Hizashi to get settled and pull the quizzes out before he noticed you in the back. As he looked at you with questioning (and slightly hurt) eyes you signed to him slowly, ‘Someone once told me that asking for help is better than struggling to overcome an adversity on their own. Thank you for all your help Hizashi.’
You paused before you started to sign again, mustering all the courage that you could, ‘You’ve been my hero for as long as I can remember and getting to work with you these past six months have shown me that I more than admire you. I really like you and I was wondering if you’d like to go on a date this weekend to the pier?’
An instant blush formed on Hizashi’s cheeks and you could see some tears swell in his eyes. The students had been expecting their quizzes to be handed out only for their teacher to stop functioning it seemed. The students didn’t know sign language and they sure as hell weren’t paying attention to you in the back when their quiz was so close to them in the front. You smile at Hizashi as you cross the classroom to him and gently take the quizzes from his hands to pass out.
The kids still aren’t sure what just happened, but Hizashi has a seemingly permanent blush on his cheeks and is unable to get any words out. Several times when you glance at him you see his hands moving to try and sign back to you, only for them to fall as his blush continues to deepen. Once all the quizzes were passed out and you were back to your post in the back of the class Hizashi seemed to reanimate. Students paused taking their test to glance up as he moved very quickly to the back of the class where you stood in your nerves. He hasn’t given an answer yet, after all.
When you glance back up, Hizashi is right in front of you and seconds later his lips are on yours. The blush that springs up on your face is fierce but you kiss him back briefly before he pulls back. Hizashi’s hands fly up and he’s signing back to you, ‘You have no idea how much I like you too. I’d love to go on a date with you this weekend.’
All the students are silent as you beam at Hizashi and kiss him softly again, even if it was on the inappropriate side for being in class, before they all cheer. Everyone’s been wanting the two of you to get together and it seems it’s finally happening. Both you and Hizashi blush like idiots before he shoos them to pay attention to their quizzes.
The rest of the class is spent signing back and forth to each other like usual. The only difference is the never ending blushes on your cheeks.

deaf bakugou headcanons
- he identifies as hard of hearing, since he lost his hearing during his preteen years and feels more connected to the hearing world than the Deaf community
- he’s wickedly good at speechreading, and doesn’t struggle to communicate verbally, so half of 1-A didn’t even know he was HOH until two months through their first year
- visual noise has become more of a problem for him lately. he gets pretty distracted by even the smallest of movements
- someone help this poor boy before he straight up murders iida. the number of times he thinks iida is signing to him but it turns out he’s just doing his regular ol’ hand gestures is too high to count. bakugou knows he can’t help it but it’s still,,, so,,, annoying
- speaking of signing, kouda helps bakugou with his vocabulary since he is Deaf, and as a bonus, he teaches bakugou about the Deaf community and their history and culture
- bakugou is really smart and picks up on signs easily, but he can’t seem to grasp the fact that the deaf use concepts rather than word-for-word like spoken language
- kirishima is serious about learning sign language along with bakugou, but he only remembers the obscure signs that aren’t really useful in casual conversation like “basement”, “gold”, or “columbia”
- bakugou is always looking at kirishima when not actively focusing because of his bright red hair, again with the visual noise (god help him, have you seen the hair color of the kids in his class?)
- sign language is way more effective than speechreading during training exercises, so all of 1-A are learning sign language to better communicate with bakugou and kouda
- bakugou deeply regrets teaching mina curse words
bonus: (ASL) everyone repeatedly touching the hand-shape "b" to their chins at mineta

Me reading all this Nib with the twins bonding over trains and knowing sign language while having dinner. OHHH this is way more than i asked for :D
Please go on.
I guess it comes very useful for Nib to have someone who understands it in this new strange place but also to avoid being spotted by wild pokemon and Alfas, but how does it communicate with Irida and the others? Do they know or learn from Nib/Ingo?
Does Lady Sneasler and the sneasels grow fond of it, maybe learn to bond with Nib immitating it's signs?
Hope you have a nice day! And some chicken nuggets :3
LONG POST! sorry to everyone who sees this in Tags, i tag it things for organization purposes
Tumblr media
(NOTE: ALL SIGN LANGUAGE DEPICTED IS IN ASL because idk JSL At All and thats what i assume hisuian sign language would be)
volo actually helps nib out before anyone else! laventon, akari, and rei are all unfamiliar with the local sign language, but volo is a bit of a linguaphile. he's not Fluent in (the most common) hisuian sign language (HSL) but he knows enough to get by. in an effort to endear himself more towards nib, he takes some time after their first battle to teach nib a few really useful signs in HSL (and this continues as their relationship develops).
irida knows some sign, so nib gets to use it and learn more in the process! not every warden is familiar with it and a looottt of people in jubilife don't know it, unfortunately, so nib is sort of left struggling for a good minute there. volo does also lend it a small notebook so that it can write things out when it really needs to communicate with someone, but for the most part people have learned to use yes/no questions when addressing nib if they aren't familiar with sign language.
Tumblr media
ingo and nib are very, very excited to realize someone else knows the sign language they're both familiar with! ingo plopped down in hisui knowing very little japanese (assuming that's hisui's spoken language), and literally no one ever used HSL around him outside of a few rare instances, so he didn't actually realize he knew unovan sign language (USL) until he and nib met that morning and nib unthinkingly signed, "good morning!" in USL.
(aside 1: despite having known one another before being dropped into the past, neither ingo nor nib recognize one another. this is somewhat thanks to arceus meddling intentionally to prevent such a thing from happening.)
(aside 2: nib is actually fluent in japanese and had no problem understanding everyone, even if the japanese that the people of hisui speak is "outdated" to nib. it's just that it never really had the opportunity to learn HSL/JSL)
as for the sneaslets....
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the more the duo sign to one another in USL, the more the sneaslets pick up on it. ingo is. not entirely pleased by the result.

Japanese Sign Language
There aren't any sources in English for Japanese Sign Language. At least I haven't found any yet. I found information on Tofugu first. And just went from there. These are just a few books and channels I watch.
1) Deaf in Japan
This is the only book I've found in English. Basically deaf culture in Japan and politics.
Tumblr media
2) 日本手話のしくみ (The structure of Japanese sign language?)
I haven't gotten too far in this one. My nihongo is not that jozu so I'm reading it slowly.
Tumblr media
3) Shuwa dictionary (it comes with a fingerspelling chart)
This dictionary is easier to use than the first one I picked up. It can be searched by the Japanese alphabet instead of by hand signs, so its good for beginner.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4) Watashi tachi shuwa (dictionary)
This one is a bit advanced. If you don't know part of the sign you're looking for it's a bit tough to use. (I put this one aside for later) So I wouldn't rush to get this one unless you're already familiar.
Tumblr media
Youtube channels I find useful. Only one of them has subtitles, and two use voice over. I'll label them. *These channels have no sounds or background music.*
MakiRafael JSL - Basic JSL, easy to follow, has English subtitles. Other channel
DeafJapan TV - This channel uses both ASL and JSL. There is a voice over on this channel, you might have to use a headset to hear or turn up the speakers because its soft sometimes. No subtitles.
naochannel - She does basic phrases. Subtitles are in Japanese and she does speak but only Japanese.
There is a website in English.
I only put the beginner things here. But if you want anything else, I can try to help, just know that most is in Japanese.
Good luck!

Yasuhiro Hagakure
Tumblr media
❤ You wanted to give him a sign name of something like fortune - or something around the mystic aura of him.
❤ But before you gave him an official sign name, whenever you started describing him to people who didn't know him, you always did the same motion.
❤ Almost like the sign for moose, except your fingers would be in '4' shape, visually describing the way his hair comes from his head.
❤ When someone else, learning from you, referred to him as that, you realized you accidentally gave him a sign name.
❤ And when you finally show him what it is - his reaction is some, "Woah - it looks exactly like me!"
❤ You feel as if if you told him that he was originally going to get something fortune related that he's be mildly disappointing. So you keep that to yourself.
❤ Accidental name sign is the best kind of name sign.
.
Byakuya Togami
Tumblr media
❤ I'm thinking about if the Togami Empire would have a sign for its own. I imagine - maybe not?
❤ If you know of specifically Byakuya before you meet him then the name sign might be a little less pointed.
❤ Something like king but with a "t".
❤ He would probably look very prideful when he shows this off to other Deaf people.
❤ Other than that - I think more realistically you'd give him a sign like snobbish. At most snobbish-er or snobbish man just to make it a little more human.
❤ He wouldn't like that one as much.
❤ I imagine if you did give him the snobbish one then eventually you would change it to something nicer just so he'd be able to introduce himself to people. As a hearing person he probably wouldn't appreciate the blunt-ness of the sign name. You'll spare him.
.
Makoto Naegi
Tumblr media
❤ In a romantic sense, the sign for sweet but ending in an "m".
❤ But that would be a petname more than anything.
❤ The name sign you settle with for public appearance is N-M for Naegi Makoto. The fingerspelling translates into JSL a little more fluidly - Na-Ma.
❤ It's easier for him to remember so he likes it a lot. It feels like a name tag. Something professional.
❤ Plus, it's easier for his friends to remember, too, so if they ask about him to you then you'll understand them better.
.
Ishimaru Kiyotaka
Tumblr media
❤ If the two of you go to highschool together, I imagine it would be something like good student or more improperly goody goody two shoes.
❤ He would probably like the goody goody two shoes one. Knowing him.
❤ But if you meet him outside of school then maybe some easy fingerspelling, like I-H-I.
❤ ^ Which started as I-S-H-I but got short-cutted into I-H-I.
❤ He loves any name sign you give him, even if it is something mildly derogatory. To think that he has a name (ESPECIALLY an assigned one, and assigned by you - oh, he's going to blush) in another culture makes him feel very enlightened.
❤ He wants to hear all about Deaf culture and the history behind it.
❤ And he wants to learn about what is and is not respectful.
.
Mondo Oowada
Tumblr media
❤ Biker didn't feel good enough. It doesn't portray his energy - the way he's commonly feared.
❤ The name sign biker doesn't give you the same feeling as does when he swerves that damn bike in the street in front of you to tell you good morning before driving away with his gang.
❤ M-Rebel you decide to give him. An 'm' and then the sign for rebel.
❤ He loves the fluid motion of it - and it looks boss as fuck, too.
❤ He tells you he gives approval of the name sign (as if you're asking).
❤ His friends would be like "psh how cute, look at your little sweetheart giving you a nickname!" and then come up to you in private and be like "yo can i get one too? haha jk... no but will you?"
.
Leon Kuwata
Tumblr media
❤ Probably something like rocker to make him feel better - which would be like guitar-er but with an 'ah yeah' facial expression.
❤ Or something reminiscent of his goatee- he might like that one.
❤ Just like with Hagakure, if you started off describing him when talking to people rather than referring to him by name, then the goatee one would more likely happen.
❤ ^ This is unlikely (in my head) because I think his name is short enough for you to fingerspell it before resorting to using visual descriptions more than once.
❤ But if you have a sense of humor, you give him the goatee one.
❤ He likes whatever you give him. Unless it's something baseball related. Then he'd be like yeah, yeah, I suppose so.
❤ (it would be funny if you made his sign name womanizer lmfao I would be petty enough to do that ngl).
.
Hifumi Yamada
Tumblr media
❤ Oh I can see it referring to his mouth or his hair.
❤ A triangle made by pointer fingers with the base being the top of your head.
❤ Or both hands going to your lips, using your index and thumb to create his mouth shape.
❤ He would probably ask you to create sign names for his favorite characters so he can talk about them with you.
❤ Or just any character in general - he wants to know what your mind has to say about it.
.
Chihiro Fujisaki
Tumblr media
❤ Programmer! It's easy, simple, and a sign he really wants to know.
❤ Plus, whenever you introduce him to other Deaf people they get really impressed that he's a programmer.
❤ It's like a flex. You've assigned him a flex.
❤ Another word he knows is cutie but that's just because you call him it all the time.
❤ Sweet, cute, home signs for sweetheart.
❤ He likes introducing himself with his sign name because he feels like it really resonates with who he is - it also reminds him of his dad.

anonymous asked:
Stardust Crusaders + Holly dealing with/reacting to Jotaro have a meltdown, shutdown, or sensory overload?
◇◇◇
(content note: ableism, autmisia)
◇◇◇
Before Jotaro met the Crusaders, his mom was the only person who noticed the signs of Jotaro being overwhelmed and on the verge of a meltdown.
Jotaro didn't know he was autistic until his early twenties, but Holly was very receptive to his needs regardless. It was just a matter of listening.
It's hard for him when he has meltdowns around people who don't know him as well as Holly does, because he often doesn't know what he needs in order to feel okay again. He needs someone to walk him through it, offer suggestions, and not force anything.
He always rejects hugs from his father. Always has. Jotaro's father doesn't understand him at all, and is most definitely of the "why can't you just be 'normal'" asshole type.
Holly has always asked permission before hugging him, so he trusts her and knows he can go to her for support.
As a teenager and an adult, Jotaro doesn't hug as much. Usually it's only if he's upset. And he only hugs people he really, strongly trusts. (Holly, Kakyoin, Abdul, his wife, Jolyne, Josuke).
Holly could easily list the signs of Jotaro being overwhelmed: very tense, much quieter than usual, clumsy, more irritable, rocking back and forth, pulling on his ear or a piece of hair, checking his surroundings more...
Jotaro typically has the quieter, more internal meltdowns. He'll feel so angry and just kind of collapse in on himself.
If he's having a personal life crisis, sometimes he'll punch a wall or a door, with no other way to get those emotions out.
Jotaro becomes non-verbal sometimes when he gets upset, non-speaking and also not able to verbalize in any way, such as groaning or sighing to express frustration.
Holly noticed this about him since his childhood, and she taught him a few basic signs in BSL (British Sign Language). As an adult, he knows JSL and ASL, but the signing he learned from Holly is close to his heart.
If Holly notices Jotaro feeling overwhelmed, she'll ask only yes-or-no questions, and ask one of them at a time. She'll ask if he needs to spend time around people, or to be left alone.
When Jotaro was little, she noticed he would run his hands under the sink for a long time when he was stressed. So for when he had meltdowns, she started putting him in the bath and spraying warm water on his scalp while brushing his hair.
From something as simple as watching and listening, she learned how to care for him and be a good parent, instead of an antagonist seeing him as a burden or thinking of him as broken or possessed.

Abdul is an empath, and he's easily overwhelmed by others' emotions and by tense atmospheres. So he can relate to Jotaro's agoraphobia and sensitivites.
Jotaro himself is high-empathy as well.
Mohammed recognizes when Jotaro seems tense and overwhelmed, regardless of how Jotaro might not express those feelings on the surface.
Mohammed can be a bit more forgiving towards neurotypical lack of understanding, towards himself and other adults. But he won't tolerate it when it's harmfully impacting someone like Jotaro, who Mohammed has seniority over (him being an adult and Jotaro being a minor) and swears to protect.
He's someone Jotaro can cry in front of. Just with the energy he has. Similar to Holly's energy, but not as coddling.
Mohammed wakes up at 4AM every morning, habitually, since his parents always did so when he was a child, answering the Islamic call to prayer that sounds through Egypt. Mohammed is Pagan, but he likes to listen to the call, and remember those very early mornings from his childhood.
After the Crusaders group had arrived in Egypt, Jotaro couldn't sleep the first night. He went for a walk early, and when the call to prayer started, he sat down to listen. He'd never heard it before and didn't know what it was. But it was beautiful and it helped him to cry, finally, for the first time during their mission. He had a hard time processing what was happening to Holly.
Mohammed went out for a walk, found Jotaro, and sat with him for a while. They talked for ages, Jotaro feeling more open after crying and getting those repressed emotions out. They both shared about how they find people overwhelming and they get stressed easily. Jotaro talked about how he was feeling.

(I headcanon Kakyoin as having BPD.)
Kakyoin admires Jotaro and looks up to him, a surprising change to his own arrogance. Noriaki doesn't typically look up to others.
It'd be alarming for him to see Jotaro have a moment of vulnerability. But essential. The two boys are only human, and sometimes Noriaki forgets that.
Noriaki, like Jotaro, has very intense emotions. So intense that he has to do something physical to cope with them. For Noriaki, that means things like punching a wall or screaming. Jotaro copes by stimming: snapping a rubber band against his wrist, showering in cold water, putting ice between his toes, using a float tank, being hugged, or squeezing into a pressured space like under weighted blankets or in a dense closet.
Noriaki is a PLEASE HELP ME sort of meltdowner, and Jotaro is more LEAVE ME ALONE. On the surface. Sometimes it's vice-versa, sometimes it's much more complex than that.
I feel like Jotaro and Kakyoin might fight about how they deal with their emotions. Because of their lack of understanding. Not just about each other, but each about himself.
Jotaro would find Noriaki's emotions overwhelming at times, and be put off by his occasional spikes of odd behavior. But it'd definitely be internalized ableism. Jotaro would need to recognize that the both of them are seen as odd, and because of that, they have a lot of self-hatred. Which, unfortunately, they'd bounce off each other.
I feel like they'd hug a lot, though. Despite both of them being people who are extremely selective about who gets to hug them.
They'd be very close friends after learning more about themselves and about each other.

The whole Crusaders group trying to help Jotaro with a meltdown would be a mess, and they'd make it worse at first.
To the point where Jotaro would just sit on the floor, cover his face with his hat, press his hands over his ears, and either groan or go nonverbal.
They'd just have to leave him alone at that point.
If one of them tried to ask him questions later like, "What was stressing you out? How can we do better next time?," the subject would frustrate him so much that he could only answer flatly with, "I don't know. I don't know. I don't know."
It was very difficult for Jotaro to accept and understand himself before finding out he's autistic. He thought there was something wrong with him, mostly from observing the way other people reacted to him. But things most definitely got easier once he knew.
