[WIP] AU designs for V/Johnny/Kerry that'll make sense to no one except me because it's from my on and off worldbuilding project I've had for 8 years and get brainworms for once in a blue moon but more importantly...I've not put them side by side like this until now and V just looks so much bigger than both of them even though he's just tall and not particularly muscular??? I guess the 15cm he has on Johnny do make a lot of difference :II

I feel fandom would get along a lot better if there was mutual understanding that liking a character, agreeing with a character, and thinking the character is well constructed/executed are all separate (if often overlapping) positions, each with their separate tastes and subjectivities. Also: character portrayals are intended to make the audience feel things; this is separate from (if often overlapping with) analyzing/appreciating their actions and role in the story.

HELLO!! big fan of your animatics!! How do you make them and do you have any tips for inspiration, planning, and what software do you use?

I think the realization that revolutionized the way I think about storyboarding the most is that you HAVE to let your imagination drive. I start off every animatic with super loose, super messy, barely legible sketches, with wrong anatomy, janky movement, etc. Instead of focusing on making it look good, I can just focus on setting it up for its potential, and starting my motivation at the highest point it can be. I never let my first draft take more than a few hours over the course of like 2 days max, or else the drive dissipates.

If I start a board right away with the cleanest, most beautiful art I can muster, I'll kill my own motivation, like "Oh god, in my head, I imagined a huge spinning 3D camera shot here, with a bunch of dancing characters. That last panel alone took me like 30 minutes to draw, I don't wanna do this! I'll draw a simpler, flatter scene instead." and then it ends up looking nothing like how I imagined, and I get demotivated before abandoning the project. But if I start with super messy lines, just barely enough to get the idea out onto a screen where I can watch it, the excitement and imagination will drive, like "Wow, this shot with a huge spinning 3D camera and all these complicated characters looks SO COOL! It's gonna take a lot of work, but look how interesting it looks already! I can't give up on this!"

Storyboarding is a bit different from a lot of other visual art mediums because it takes a LOOOOT more work before it starts feeling rewarding. Learning to manage your own motivation is a huge part of building the skill that I feel a lot of people don't mention.

But when it comes to learning how to finalize it, study up on your storyboarding rules! Learn about perspective, anatomy, screen direction, and learn to draw FAST (that's a big one). Draw out shots from your favourite movies, study their composition and take note of their camera/character movement, and how it aligns with the shots sandwiching them. Learn from other artists (I recommend Toniko Pantoja, he's a very experienced board artist who makes a lot of videos abt improving your boards and what it's like to work in the industry), and PRACTISE! Your first piece of art, whenever you try anything new, is going to SUCK. You're gonna think its bad. That's just how art goes. But the next time you do it, you'll always, always, improve, even if just a little, even if you can't see it for yourself.

The biggest thing to keep telling yourself when making storyboards is DON'T GIVE UP YET. YOU'RE SO CLOSE TO MAKING SOMETHING COOL. And then you have to keep telling yourself that over, and over, and over, and over, through all the sighs, and the frustrated rage-quitting, and the exhausted temporary give-ups, and then eventually, those animatics you keep building in your head get to be real! And it feels incredible.

Respectfully, please stop putting important information related to terms you coin, such as additional terminology or symbols, underneath a cut.

Tumblr is a very broken website, and anything put under a cut can easily be lost, even if you never intend to or indeed never do delete your blog. Archivists need to paste information from under the cut to ensure it is not lost, and for some of us (like ourselfves, Radio!), this is exhausting. Your term may take forever to be reblogged, especially if you do this on every or almost every term you coin.

Physical touch is used in abundance Exceptional X-Men to indicate closeness and reaching out to someone. As Trista, Thao, and Alex grow closer, they also stay in touch, literally. Emma and Kitty looove putting their hands on the kids' shoulders to console and support them. Carnero's art gives it this kind of realness that is great to see, it feels natural and true. (panels used in this post are from all throughout Exceptional X-Men #1-9)

And then there is Emma and Kitty's relationship with each other. In issue 3, Kitty attacks Emma physically first, and when Emma uses her TK, Kitty tells her to fight her for real (or leave the kids alone), and puts her in a chokehold.

In issue 6, when the kids are talking about how they don't want to be dependant on Emma, Kitty touches Emma's shoulder. Later in issue 6, when Alex is confronting Kitty and Emma, Emma has her hand on Kitty's shoulder and tells her to take a breath.

Kitty and Emma stand closely A BUNCH through the issues, and neither of them is hesitant to use physical touch as a show of affection (toward the kids, Bobby, and Nina).

When they're talking and arguing with each other, there's always this space between them, but when they're standing as one unit in front of the kids/Bobby, they're closer.

Kitty touches Emma when she needs to get through to her, and Emma touches Kitty when she's clearly in distress. We see that for Emma again in issue 9, when she has to snap Kitty out of her shock. But it's much more intimate then. It's not a shoulder touch, and she isn't shaking her out of it. She has her hand on her chin, and while she's trying to help her, she's also scolding her. I can't stop thinking about it.

There's another touching moment (ha) in issue 9 where Kitty, Emma, and Bobby are holding hands to go through a wall. But Emma is the one holding Bobby's hand. Kitty is only holding Emma's. which could mean nothing.

i've seen a fair bit of... pessimism about dorym lately, esp with the ep107, for example wondering if dorian's opposing views on the gods making orym fall out of love, and i have to say. i very highly doubt it, ur fr talking about the man who has held on to will for so long, holding onto will's family and affectionately calling this *his* family too because that didn't stop when will died. i dont think falling out of love is an option or even a thought to orym.

that said, we know that orym has contingencies for if anyone in bells hells crosses the line into being a version of themselves they would despise, for anyone who jeopardizes their mission. his mission. i think, for the first time since knowing dorian, orym finally has a contingency for him. the longer dorian is back, the more orym sees how scarred he is by what's happened (understandable so) and knows that dorian is with bells hells all the way. but if he isn't...
