Thinking of changing my username
Not sure what to yet, but I've decided I don't like it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, but I want to make sure it has a friendly/cute nickname to go with
My only idea came from a phone game I have, being "FlyingTriceratops" but the only way to shorten it would be to "Cera" and I don't want ppl to confuse me with thegunnsara or think I stole from them or something
But like. Idk what else to do without spending directly from the other great users on here, but then I'll feel guilty about it later so I'm stuck
Help?

I think 90% of my gripes with how modern anime looks comes down to flat color design/palettes.
Non-cohesive, washed-out color palettes can destroy lineart quality. I see this all the time when comparing an anime's lineart/layout to its colored/post-processed final product and it's heartbreaking. Compare this pre-color vs. final frame from Dungeon Meshi's OP.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So much sharpness and detail and weight gets washed out and flattened by 'meh' color design. I LOVE the flow and thickness and shadows in the fabrics on the left. The white against pastel really brings it out. Check out all the detail in their hair, the highlights in Rin's, the different hues to denote hair color, the blue tint in the clothes' shadows, and how all of that just gets... lost. It works, but it's not particularly good and does a disservice to the line-artist.
I'm using Dungeon Meshi as an example not because it's bad, I'm just especially disappointed because this is Studio Trigger we're talking about. The character animation is fantastic, but the color design is usually much more exciting. We're not seeing Trigger at their full potential, so I'm focusing on them.
Here's a very quick and messy color correct. Not meant to be taken seriously, just to provide comparison to see why colors can feel "washed out." Top is edit, bottom is original.
You can really see how desaturated and "white fluorescent lighting" the original color palettes are.
[Remember: the easiest way to make your colors more lively is to choose a warm or cool tint. From there, you can play around with bringing out complementary colors for a cohesive palette (I warmed Marcille's skintone and hair but made sure to bring out her deep blue clothes). Avoid using too many blend mode layers; hand-picking colors will really help you build your innate color sense and find a color style. Try using saturated colors in unexpected places! If you're coloring a night scene, try using deep blues or greens or magentas. You see these deep colors used all the time in older anime because they couldn't rely on a lightness scale to make colors darker, they had to use darker paints with specific hues. Don't overthink it, simpler is better!]

Color Palettes Here
[ID: An illustration of Prince Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender in dramatic lighting. He is shown from the shoulders up, looking at the viewer head-on. His expression is pensive and somewhat intense, and his eyes are glowing. The background is a Yin-Yang symbol, with the left side colored in oranges and reds to imply flames. He is dressed in his robe from the latter part of Book 3.]

he dreamed of warm hugs. tender caresses on the crown of his hair. tidying the messy curls of his bangs behind reddening ears. and he would giggle. he would blush. he would have tears in his eyes. all good things. everything wonderful.
he dreamed of a pair of piercing eyes. that gaze was never directed at someone else but him. and he would replay that scenario every night, each scene was an animation against the emptiness of the ceiling—before he could remember how lonely his nights were before he came. because he was alive when those eyes were on him—he felt so seen.
and that infamous cold smile. he saw it through the haze in his vision and the daze in his mind. and he couldn't remember anything else but that smirk, the smugness of it all.
the roughness of his palms against the softness of his own. they flutter like broken butterfly wings. but still so mesmerising. when their fingers intertwined, he saw a splash of colour, in all shades of black and blue and grey and him.
sheng wang dreamed of jiang tian.
he saw jiang tian in the recesses of his imagination. there were tears in his eyes. they fell. and fell. but jiang tian was still quiet—why was he so silent?
and sheng wang tried reaching out. but the distance between them grew the more he crossed the forbidden line. jiang tian was untouchable. elusive. like the nightmare he had as a child. like the memories of his father's fading warmth on his skin, the conversations between them, tiki-taka. and by then, sheng wang realised, everything was in vain.
so he opens his eyes.
he opens his eyes and sees a shadow of light against jiang tian's face. his features gradually soften as the moonshine dances elsewhere, promising the stars to tango. and its darkness again, in all of its glory, bestowing on the sleeping jiang tian. but in sheng wang's vision, he has always been the brightest. nothing could ever compare to jiang tian's blinding shine.
oh.
and sheng wang feels the overwhelming urge to hold him. to embrace him. to be with him. because he has always been curious—those little touches were lethal, and sheng wang's already addicted. there's so much more in jiang tian that sheng wang wishes to desire. can he?
the sense of security washes over him like a growing tide, making his lungs tighten, and sheng wang could never forget how jiang tian made him feel.
and he feels so much. too much.
he could never forget how jiang tian made him be.
jiang tian is now drenched in red.
sheng wang knows this is a warning, a sign—don't. they sound like white noise in his ears, these no's and don'ts and pleas. sheng wang couldn't care less. because temptation has always been so delicious, and sheng wang's always a bit reckless.
so he leans closer. just enough to count the long lashes brushing against jiang tian's cheekbones, lulling him to sleep. just enough to remember the zeal of jiang tian's presence, ever-so-grounding, like an old tree under the pouring rain. just enough to understand that he loves.
he loves jiang tian so. he hopes jiang tian won't go.
his heart, oh, his poor heart. sheng wang believes that jiang tian could hear it. the roar. the growl. but maybe sheng wang wants jiang tian to listen. listen to the voice calling his name ever since—ever since he knew what wanting is—ever since he understood what loving is.
it's cold. so sheng wang pulls the blanket further up, covering both of them, sheltering them from the potent glare of these red lights. and when he breathes jiang tian in, sheng wang surrenders. he shudders.
don't leave me.
sheng wang shatters.

You let out a groggy groan as you shifted in your sleep before turning to the side, and stretching your arm out expecting to feel the warmth of the white haired woman you shared a night of passion with, only to find it being empty and cold.
You lazily raised your head and peeked one eye open before flopping your head back down on to the pillow with a heavy sigh, assuming Felicia had left you without saying goodbye.
"Shit!" A familiar voice cried out outside the bedroom and seemingly from the direction of your kitchen. You hurried out of the bedroom and into the kitchen after rapidly rising from the bed and putting on your clothing that were scattered all over the floor.
You found Felicia, wearing your baggy shirt and looking a bit smaller than usual. You looked down and saw just how ravishing she looked as it exposed the sight of her milky thighs.
Felicia kept fanning the burning food in the frying pan in a panic as the fire raged on. You chuckled at the sight of the scene before approaching her, and gently putting a hand on to the small of her back, pushing her aside as you took over the situation.
You covered the flaming pan with a lid and set it aside before turning off the burner. Felicia cleared her throat in an effort to hide her embarrassment.
"I was trying to make you breakfast," She mumbled.
You looked at her, giving Felicia an amused smile before letting out a small chuckle.
"How do you burn a fried egg?" You snickered, teasing Felicia, who only gave you an adorable look of furrowed brows combined with a small pout.
You couldn't help yourself from letting out an entertained laugh at her face before holding them by the waist and guiding her up on the counterto make her sit.
"Sorry, I almost burned your place down," Felicia apologised with a chuckle, properly sitting herself on the counter before resting her hands on your shoulder while you positioned yourself between her legs. "I just wanted to make you bacon and eggs."
You only observed Felicia's face for a solid minute with an enthralled smile before speaking up.
"It's fine," You reassured, running your hands up to the latter's exposed thighs before leaning in close to her ear to whisper. "I already know what I want for breakfast anyway." You teased, gently biting her earlobe.
Felicia felt a chill run up her spine, and gently pushed you away from her ear before dropping her head down to your shoulder in embarrassment to cover her already flushed face from your display.
You simply chuckled and placed your hands on her waist, resting your chin on her shoulder as well.
They both enjoyed their silence. The morning sunlight passed through the window pane and reflected the light all over the place, bouncing off of every object in place, walls, and floor as it gives the place a natural soft light.
"I love you," Felicia confessed in a whisper, breaking your silence with the three letter words that you had been waiting to hear.
It echoed in your ear as it froze you in place for a solid minute before you raised your head.
"No," You muttered, confusing Felicia which caused her to raise her head as well.
You leaned back and gently held on to each side of her face as you looked at her in the eyes with all seriousness and love present in your eyes.
"You look at me when you say that."
Felicia's confused expression softened as they let out small airy chuckle before softly clutching on to your wrists before looking into at your eyes with same seriousness and devotion in your eyes.
"I love you," She repeated, giving you the soft, innocent smile that melts your heart without fail.
You returned her tender smile, brushed your thumbs gently on her cheeks before leaning in to softly kiss Felicia on the lips.
"I love you too," You confessed, giving her soft butterfly kisses all over her face, earning Felicia's endearing giggle.
You ran your hands back down on Felicia's thighs and bit your lower lip with a tiny smirk curling it.
"Let's go shower," You said. "I don't think I can control myself, seeing you look so adorable in my shirt."

To Traitors
NOT A PR0MPT
******
"The general wants to send me to your homeland."
"For war?"
Villain hummed. "We knew it was coming."
"Of course." Hero shook her head and pushed a shirt further into the bucket of water. She bent it and twisted it and shoved it again. "How did she react when you told her 'no'?"
That was the thing; Villain didn't deny the general. No one denied the general.
Hero picked up on the silence. She always did. “Where does that leave us?”
A choice.
War?
Or her?
“You know this decision is not mine.”
"Sure, it is. I always wanted to travel- try camping."
Camping. Hero knew rejecting orders would be considered traitorous. She would rather be homeless and shunned than to standby while her homeland was being attacked.
"Hero..."
"Is that something you are not willing to do?" Her movements became rushed, like she was trying to maintain a calm, but the only way to do so was to move along with the emotions. She grabbed a shirt, dunked it, rung it, tossed it. Grab, dunk, ring. Grab, dunk, ring. They weren't even becoming clean, and the water needed changed. "My family is there. Where are they meant to go?"
"Even if I did tell the general no, I cannot stop an entire army from marching. The war will happen with or without me."
A sigh veiled the tension in the room. Villain's weight creaked beneath him as he stepped towards his lover. He took a linen shirt, wet and soaked, from her hands, and dropped it in the brown water. He found her hands next, then tugged her up slightly. She took the cue and stood, let herself be held.
"I love you," Villain said.
Hero didn't like crying. This is why Villain began rubbing her back as he pulled her into an embrace. She buried her face into his chest and sniffed once, twice...wiped a face full of tears, sniffed again...stopped, then began sobbing. No amount of squeezing could console the thought of her family being innocently slaughtered.
"You would hide them, wouldn't you? If you found them, you would save them?"
His grip loosened. He whispered, “Of course I would.” Did Hero know it might have been a lie? Even Villain wasn't sure what he would do when the time came that he marched onto her homeland.
"When do you leave?"
"Tomorrow."
"Then I'm leaving now." She attempted to pull away from Villain's chest, but he held her firmly. Her muscles tensed beneath him, but Villain knew she knew better than to try again.
"Hero, be level-headed.
"I want to warn them," she whispered, so quietly that Villain only knew what she said because of how well he knew her. He knew her every thought before she even had it herself. It wasn't magic; just love.
"And you think you will outrun an entire army overnight?"
"I know I won't!" her tone had changed, and this time when she pulled away, she didn't stop until Villain let her go. "But who am I to not try at all? Who would I be, Villain?" Her face was red and swollen, glistening with sad, then angry tears.
For a moment, she stopped. She took a breath. then swallowed as if she needed to stop herself from asking what obviously came to her mind. Alas, she said it. "How long have you known?" Her voice cracked, and Villain could see she already knew the answer: longer than he should have known before telling her.
"I'm sorry."
"I didn't ask for an apology." Her eyes refused to meet his. Villain was almost glad for it. He couldn't bear her anger, not when it was directed at him. "I asked how long you have known."
"Hero..."
"Clean your own damn clothes. I'll pay the Baker family back when I return."
"Pay them back? For w-" No. "You're not taking their horse." Hero was already scrounging around, first grabbing a raggedy sack, then stuffing one random item after another in. "Hero, stop. Hero-" She was going to take the neighbor's horse just to get caught up in the war herself. "Stop!"
She fell to her knees in the next moment. Broke down as if his voice took out the last support beam keeping the house together. hero cried, screamed, and wailed. "No. No. No. No. No," she repeated, and her voice broke time and time again as she screamed.
Tears sprung into Villain's eyes. What did he do?
"I'll send a bird. It will arrive before our army does, and when they receive it, they will know to leave."
Hero's head lifted, and her puffy eyes finally met Villain's glistening ones. "I will prepare beds. We have pelts; I can throw something together, and my brother can take-"
One blow after another, each and every passing moment. Just when Villain thought all might be well, the both of them realized there was no saving anyone. The war was an ambush, and Hero's brother would be expected to take a stand, to protect his own homeland.
"I won't-" Villain swallowed. "I won't harm your family. I will send the bird, and I will pray with every moment of travel that they receive it and leave. I will not draw my sword until I find their home empty, until I am sure they have left."
"You would be a traitor to your own kingdom."
"Better it this kingdom than you."
