My highlights from The Assembly:

Was John Taylor from Duran Duran your first ever crush? “Yes, he absolutely was.” Michael thought he was the most beautiful person he’d ever seen, man or woman. And he tried to imitate his hairdo (didn’t work out though, because Michael’s hair is really curly and John’s is straight).

He’s not brave enough to go on Strictly because he thinks he’s not a good dancer.

How does it feel to be dating someone that is only 5 years older than your daughter? “Both of us were quite surprised when we got together, it wasn’t something we were looking for. I haven’t dated anyone who is much younger than me but you meet who you meet. We were both very aware how people might respond, and that it would be difficult and challenging, but ultimately we felt that it was worth it, because of how we felt about each other. And now we have two beautiful children together. We’re really, really happy. I am aware that I am a much older father, and it does worry me, and makes me concerned, and makes me sad thinking about the time that I won’t have with them. But if you find someone who brings you happiness and you make them happy you gotta go for that. So that’s what we decided to do, and I’m so happy we did because we have this wonderful family now.”

The next question (asked by the same girl) was: Who is the rudest celebrity? “Have you heard of a man called David Tennant? He was Doctor Who. Doctor rude! No he’s very nice. Someone will occur to me and I’ll let you know. (pause) Jennifer Laurence was very cheeky! She is very cheeky.”

His favourite Disney film is Moana. And that’s Mabli’s favourite movie at the moment, too. She watches it about twice a day.

He’s worried that AI will take his job away, and that it will change everything, not just actors and writers. And that by the time we will want to put a stop to certain things it’ll be too late.

His favourite food is Egg and chips. Only enhanced by ham.

He loves going by train.

If he could replace 2 people of the royal family he’d take away Andrew & Camilla and replace them with Joe Lycett & David Attenborough. Or Tom Jones as the Prince of Wales!

If he could play the Doctor or the Master, he’d like to play the Master and play opposite David Tennant as the Doctor.

His biggest fear is being alone. And it’s also what he worries about the most for other people.

Hot or cold? He does like winter and snow. ❄️

Walk us through the before, during and after of the kiss with David Tennant: reading the script he thought “that’s gonna be a big deal”. They didn’t really talk about it and just went for it. Everyone was quite moved by the scene, all the people around them, so they knew it had gone quite well. And now they never talk about it. (He said that last bit with a smile.)

jaune is spiderman au) in which jaune is everyone's favorite webslinger, going by the name Huntsman (after the huntsman spider) downside he lacks the tech other spidermen have, upside he's already got tons of superstength and durability before he unlocks his aura! however his story is a little different than most spidermen, since everyone around him is a bad ass his grandpa (who's this story's uncle ben) doesn't die. instead when a white fang operative tries to rob him grandpa arc draws a revolver shoots his enemy dead and holsters without breaking stride. people at the scene describe him saying to himself "it's a hell of a thing killing a man" while walking away. take us through the life of a spiderman that the universe doesn't hate

A universe that DOESN'T hate Spider-Man? Oof... Tall order there, friend. But, sure, I'll see what I can do. Before we begin, might I regale you with my research? If not, skip to the read more. When I was playing Shattered Dimension for the PlayStation, there was a bumper in the loading screen explaining that there was a Parker of York Spider-Man who was a knight cursed with the blessings of a spider. I thought to look into this for inspiration, but I came up with bupkis on that. Instead, I found three different inspirations that used the name of Spider Knight. The first is Spyder-Knight from Disney's Ultimate Spider-Man. Not really anything too interesting. Just a knight in Spider-Man armor. Then there's the Prince of Arachne, who was a Peter Parker who worked for the noble Osborn family. He left after Princess Gwendolyn died in his place when Norman Osborn tried to kill him with a chandelier. Peter became knight and served as the Prince of the kingdom, sadly leaving a heartbroken Mary Jane to weep for his return. Then there's the SpiderKnight, who is a fusion of Spider-Man and Moon Knight, which is Peter Parker with D.I.D., including him, the witty voice of The Spider, the serious voice of The Knight, the confident voice of The CEO, and the techy voice of The Science. And then there's SpideyMoon, which... is a thing, apparently? A CANON THING, TOO! Like, apparently, they dated, but it's never brought up again after one mention in one panel? Actually, now that I think about it, I think that was just a joke Spider-Man made. But, yeah, that's what I found. Anyway, here's your Huntsman Spider AU~!

Chapter 1 - Somethin' Sensational~!

There is an old saying, often told to those who begin questioning their lot in life...

"There are those who are born great. There are those who achieve greatness. And there are those who have greatness thrust upon them."

For one such young man, named Jaune Arc, he wasn't quite sure where he fit into these categories. One could argue he was born great as his ancestors were all heroes and imbued upon him the genetics of a great warrior. However, it could also be argued that greatness was thrust upon him when he awoke one morning with unusual abilities that allowed him to sense danger and climb up walls.

The third category, however, Jaune was certain he wouldn't fit into. His chances of "achieving greatness" were slim to none. Even if he'd somehow managed to stumble his way into Beacon Academy, a school for Huntsmen and Huntresses from all over Remnant, he still a poor fit as both a leader and a hero.

That said, he still did what he could to help out anyone he could. Like his grandfather taught him. "If you can do it, then just do it." His work schedule as a midnight superhero was a bit of a mess, but it's not like he could just stand by and do nothing. Especially not when his world was tearing itself apart.

"I'm screwed..." Jaune groaned into his textbook.

"Is that so?" Ren, his roommate, asked as he read from his own book.

"Doctor Oobleck is going to eat me alive tomorrow. I've been so busy dealing with the Torchwick gang that I wasn't paying attention to anything he's said this past week."

"You could always ask for a remedial class." Ren turned the page.

"And when would I have time for that? When you've already graduated while I'm still trying to figure out what color underwear Gura Belladonna wore when the White Fang disbanded?"

"Ghira Belladonna." Ren corrected. "And you don't have to worry about the underwear color. Just the cloak color. Which was..."

"Red?"

"No."

"White?"

"No."

"Green?"

"No."

"I'm screwed, aren't I?"

"Yes."

As Jaune slammed his face into his book again, he scroll suddenly buzzed. It was an emergency alert from the school...

"All students are required to remain away from Vale downtown due to a robbery in progress."

"Ren?" Jaune shut his textbook and ran to the closet. He snagged his backpack, complete with his superhero suit, and ran for the window.

"I'll tell any girls asking about you that you just missed them." Not looking up from his own studying. Jaune's leaving had become something of a routine at this point.

"Yeah, right." Jaune opened the window. "Like any girl would ever ask about me." Leaping out, he ran up the wall to the roof. Easier to change from there.

"3... 2..." A knock came from the door. Ren stood and opened it, finding his best friend and her roommate standing with their own textbooks. "Hello, girls."

"Hi, Ren~!" Nora cheerfully greeted.

"Hello, Ren," Pyrrha also greeted, albeit more demurely, "is Jaune here?"

"You just missed him." Ren said with a smirk.

"There's trouble downtown."

"Mhm."

"Do you think it's the White Fang?"

"Could be."

"This used to be such a nice city."

"Mhm."

"If only the police would do their jobs."

Jaune made his way from the school to downtown as fast as his legs could carry him. It was times like these, which happened every time there was a crime to be stopped, that he wished he'd brought his bike with him to Beacon. At the time, he didn't think he'd leave the academy very often, and even now he argued that it would only make it more obvious who this masked vigilante stepping in to stop crimes that huntsmen were either too busy, or too corrupt, to stop was.

Thankfully, he'd developed a routine by now and figured out the fastest way to downtown was by train. He didn't have a ticket, so he'd have to hitch a ride. Last time he tried to jump on it while the train was still in the station, the conductor's refused to move until he jumped off. For some reason, people didn't trust masked vigilantes when they said, "I'm trying to stop a crime from happening!"

Jaune was now downtown-bound with his eyes on The Gilded Crown, the biggest bank in Vale. Keeping low to the roof he quietly prayed that whoever was tough enough to make such an attempt was also nice enough to give up without a fight. Sadly, they were more the former and less the latter.

The train began to slow and Jaune leapt off the train and made a running start for the building closest to the station; the Vale CCTV News station where Lisa Lavender gave her unbiased view on him. And when Jaune says unbiased, he means that he doesn't like what she says but replies, "to be fair to her", to each of her arguments. After all, The Huntsman Spider is, was, and, for the foreseeable future, will always be a vigilante, not a huntsman or a police officer who work by codes, regulations, rules, laws, and everything else that stops a person from doing the right thing.

An extensive and drawn-out hop, skip, and a jump later, Jaune was watching the scene play out. Police, huntsmen, and huntresses were engaged in a firefight with bank robbers wearing black fedoras, black suits, red ties and red glasses. The Torchwick Gang. Jaune was weighing his options when he spotted someone breaking into the side of the building, through a top floor window.

"Hm," Jaune hummed, "either this vigilante thing is catching on, or there's something else going on here." Looking down to the brave boys and girls in blue and green, he decided they had enough on their plate without him 'getting in their way', as they like to say. "Think it's time I give them a break."

"So, Ren~?" Nora leaned in, cooing with a sweetness in her voice. "Any idea when Jaune will be back~?"

"I don't think he'll be back until late." Ren answered, not looking up from his textbook.

"Seriously?" Nora gave a long sigh and fell back onto his bed. "Isn't he failing history?"

"He's been studying. I'm sure he'll be fine on tomorrow's exam."

"Well, that may be so," Nora jumped from her back to her knees, "but there's a lot more important things to worry about than studying!" She glanced over to Pyrrha. "Like maybe getting closer to your friends~?" She waggled her brows.

"Nora..." Pyrrha gave a small pout. It was true she held an affection for Jaune, but it wasn't something she needed to focus on. She was attending Beacon to become a huntress, not to find a boyfriend. Getting a date for the weekend wasn't important right now, even if it's something she really wanted.

"Jaune and I are plenty close, Nora." Ren replied, not looking up from his book.

The two girls shared a look.

The inside of the bank was dark. Torchwick's gang must have shut off the power to make this heist a little easier for them. Jaune looked down from the rafters above as the black-cloaked goons of Vale's most dangerous criminal continued to unload bullet after bullet against the "protectors of the innocent".

Jaune understood it was a hard job to be a police officer and a huntsman. That's what his grandpa used to do, after all. However, according to the man himself, things have gotten way to lax and hard in the wrong places. When he threatened to go to the council, couple of dirty cops pinned Jaune's grandpa with a crime he didn't commit. No charges were pressed, but he was stripped of his badge and had his good name muddied.

From what Jaune had seen, this wasn't the case for all of the police, but still too many to just blindly trust all of them with everything. So he decided to let things play out down below while chasing the shadowy figure moving ahead of him. He kept his distance, following the obvious trail they left. Open doors and open windows practically screamed-

"This way!' Jaune looked down and watched as the goons started running deeper into the bank. Huntsmen and police wouldn't be too far behind. Jaune had to work fast.

Jaune's head throbbed, and his back slammed against the wall by a doorway on instinct. Bullets sprayed from the other side, meaning stealth was no longer an option. Holding up his arms, keeping his target in view, he charged forward as bullets ricocheted off his armor plating. When he got close enough, he ducked low and pushed himself forward into the figure.

That didn't work, though, and he what he jumped into fell away like solid smoke. His head throbbed and he rolled away as soon as he hit the ground, narrowly avoiding the swipe of a blade. As his rolling came to a stop, he watched the figure flee around a corner, beginning the chase again. He was about to indulge when he heard shouting from the other direction.

Following this noise, he found another large room, though this one wasn't riddled with bullets like before. Instead, there a group of hostages, all tied up and gagged, with the largest of them being yanked to his feet by Torchwick's thugs. Jaune could play cat and mouse with his lead, but not when there was somebody in trouble. Jumping down from the second floor, he landed on the balls of his feet and hopped forward. The gang members gave shouts as they aimed their weapons at him. He ran to the side, keeping clear of the hostages, and chased after the running gang members.

They dragged the large hostage down the corridor leading to the back exit. Jaune barreled through and knocked aside any criminal that got in his way. When they got up to try and chase down their assailant, they were captured by the pursuing huntsmen. Jaune made it to the back alley where the hostage was being shoved into a long car. Jaune made for a running jump and landed just as the car was peeling out.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" Jaune shouted as the car swerved around, trying to shake him off. For better or worse, Jaune wasn't flying off with his hands sticking to the roof of the car. His head throbbed and he rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding a blade stabbing through the roof. His head throbbed again, instigating him to roll aside once more. By the time the third stab came, he rolled himself into position over the window. Giving a little hop, he smashed through the window, and everything started to slow down around Jaune.

The guy with the blade, shocked at the sudden intrusion, fumbled with his weapon before trying to stab Jaune with it. The thrust was avoided as Jaune slid into the vehicle with both hands now removed from the roof. Curling into himself, Jaune punched one goon while grabbing hold of the blade from the not sharp side. He then kicked the blade goon as Jaune tugged on the blade. One goon pulled his gun on Jaune, but the hostage jumped into him, giving Jaune the chance to avoid being shot and knocking the goon out.

"You okay?" Jaune asked, untying the hostage. "You usually hear about these kinds of things happening on trains."

"Aside from the glass in my suit," the man grumbled, scowling at Jaune as he removed the gag from his mouth, "I'll live." He took the gun and made his way to the front, where he tapped on the glass. The window opened and he shoved the gun through. "Pull over!"

"Whoa, whoa! Careful!" Jaune shouted. "No need to get violent!"

"Really?" The man asked sarcastically. "After kicking the hell out three asses, shoving a gun into a fourth is where you draw the line?" The car slowed to a stop.

"Wouldn't you?" Jaune asked, trying to ease the tension.

Without looking at his savior, the man replied. "You sound just like him." His arm twitched. "And you. Try anything funny and you'll wish you killed me back there."

Jaune, not sensing any danger, exited the limo with the large man. The man took the lead and brought Jaune into an alley where he could escape. Before he left, Jaune and the man had a talk.

"Look, kid, I get that your heart's in the right place," the man said, "but a lot of people got hurt today. If you want to help people, be a huntsman, or a cop. Don't make things worse by putting on a mask and being a hero."

"I have to, though." Jaune said. "If something bad happens and I could have stopped it, then it's no different than if I did the bad thing." Jaune's voice was a bit shaky, since this was a much larger man he was speaking to, but it was the honest truth.

"You really are just like Ghira." The man chuckled.

"You know Ghira Bellafauna?"

"Belladonna, and yeah. I used to work for him before..." Sirens wailing in the distance started getting louder. "You better go kid."

"Sure." Jaune jumped onto the wall and was about to climb up. "Oh, uh, one more question, if you don't mind..."

"Well done, Mr. Arc!" Doctor Oobleck called as he handed Jaune his test. "...is what I would say if your score were just a little higher. You may have passed the exam, but I expect much better from you in the future. Keep studying and you just might get an actual 'Well done'."

"Er, thanks, Doctor Oobleck." Jaune said, sheepishly taking the exam into his hands.

"Guess you were studying without us, huh, Jaune?" Nora remarked.

"Well, something like that." Jaune chuckled. "Ren and I have been really hitting the books this past week."

"Yeah, well, some things are a lot more important than studying, you know." Nora rolled her eyes.

"Nora..." Pyrrha grumbled.

As Jaune ignored Nora, he felt like someone was staring at him. He looked around, his eyes passing over the classroom until he caught someone looking right at him a few desks away. The girl looked away, keeping her eyes glued to her exam paper. He recognized her, but more as a friend of a friend than an actual friend. Blake, wasn't it?

NA JAEMIN : the coffee incident

today is like any other day, you go to work to the neo cafe you after your classes, take the costumers order you know just the usual nothing new nothing special well that's until na jaemin came.

the first time you layed your eyes on jaemin when he walked through the cafe door, your reaction was concern. it's obvious that he's been cramming for days now, his eyebags says it all.

"uh, hi can i get a 8 shots of expresso to go?" jaemin rubbed his eyes under his reading glasses, tired for only getting 2 hours of sleep.

"eight, are you sure? that's eight, it's strong" you clarified the man who only gave a smile and a nod, not wanting to keep the tired male you immediately went to make his hell of a coffee.

after finishing his order, jaemin was about to exit the door he once walked in too but was stopped when you told him he has to sign a paper.

"i am so sorry sir if i take too much of your time, i know you're a busy person but i need you to sign this for me please" you respectfully handed jaemin an agreement paper that concludes, you not being responsible if anything happens due to his coffee shots.

"don't worry i won't drag you if something happens, but i'll make sure to tell the doctors you make amazing coffee" jaemin lightly chuckled while signing the paper before walking away.

your first encounter might now be as romantic like you see in disney movies, but it's sure became one of your core memories.

LEE JENO : dear, santa... 

the first time you and jeno met was in christmas eve, you're on your way home with a cake in your hand kind of sad that you're once again alone this christmas. not wanting to take the stairs like you used too you decided to take the elevator instead !

the elevator is about was about to close, when out of nowhere a foot came to stop it. you looked up at the opening door to see who entered and immediately saw a struggling jeno, so as a decent person you are you helped the male carry some of the foods he's holding.

"thanks, my arms are starting to get numb" the male in a black leather jacket thanked you after putting the food in the steel floor. the ride was quiet, the both of you are on your phone assuming that i'll be quick.

then a loud crash was heared, the elevator light even started to flicker and that's when the both of you knew that you were stuck in an elevator, in christmas eve. the male near the emergency button quickly pushed it and informed the person on the line that the both of you are stuck. 

"oh my god, this cannot be happening. there's no signal i can't call anyone" you panicked, going back and fort inside the elevator while jeno is still talking the emergency services.

"bad news, they said it might take more an hour since all the repair man of unavailable" jeno sighed, as he sits down in front of you.

it's 11:41 pm it's been more than half an hour, you and jeno are running out of topics plus the elevator is starting to heat. then the emergency services finally came! the both of you stood up in unison.

"alright stand back now! it's going to take 10 minutes" the man shouted to the other side, you couldn't careless if takes 10 minutes all you want righr now is go celebrate your christmas outside the elevator.

12:00 am at christmas day, the doors of the elevator finally opens. the snow out the building is starting to fall, the workers are greeting one other 'merry christmas' so you decided to do the same for each other.

"merry christmas, y/n" he patted your back lightly.

"merry christmas, jeno" you gave him a sincere smile before walking through the stairs together while helping him carry the foods.

who would've thought santa can also grant wishes from adults, two lonely souls who feels alone during this holiday is no more lonely as they found comfort in each other's arms.

afterall, christmas is a holiday that should never be spent alone.

HUANG RENJUN : the cab love

it's now 12:30 pm you're supposed to be at your school at 12 sharp, since the class is having oral recitation. you can't miss today class, you stayed up for this you reviewed your notes all night, so you have to get into a cab fast!

renjun is quite the same, he has an art project to present in front of the class and he can't miss that afterall art is his favorite subject, the male would rather die than leave a bad impression to Mr.Kim.

the both of you have been waiting for 20 minutes now, you can't seem to find a free one, it's either there's already inside or going home.

"it's alright, it's alright we'll find one eventually" you tried to calm yourself down, while your arms still forward hoping a cab would pull up in front of you.

thinking that the yellow car stopped for you, you immediately opened the right side of door while renjun opened the left side. you didn't notice each other until you guys are sat in the car seat and said your location in unison.

"make up your minds, building a or build b of neo uni?" the driver looked into the small mirror only seeing his two passengers bangging their heads in the front back seat, humiliated by their mistakes.

the driver didn't ask more questions thinking that his passengers are in a love quarrle, he instead wished you both happiness in his mind.

your third class is finally over, which means it's finally break time ! time to eat lunch that you packed yourself this morning.

as you and your two friends walking down the stairs while laughing at the story you were telling them, they told you to demonstrate what really happened that day and so you did.

you were carefully demonstrating the scene until it's finally in the funny part, you imitated the kick in your story. and with your little to no luck the shoe on your right foot went on a short flight before landing into someone's head.

haechan looked behind him with his one hand touching the part that got hit, he landed his gaze to you that's hiding behind your friends back. the male picked up the black (heel) school shoes and started to come up to you.

"he's coming, y/n run for it" sungchan whispered, scared for your life you ran your ass back to your classroom with no shoes, since the other one will slow you down.

"WAIT! CINDERELLA, YOUR SHOES!" haechan shouted before picking up the shoe you left and went on to find you.

Arsenic and Adobo, Mia P. Manansala [started 05/18, finished 06/03] I didn’t dip my toes into the light murder mystery genre until now and to be honest, I’m not sure if it’s working for me. But I have seen recommendations floating around this series with filipino characters and wanted to check it out. The main character, Lila, is eerily specific to my personal experiences and upbringing, but the writing feels severely lacking because I’m actively looking for more character development and depth. My best friend clarified that this genre doesn’t really flesh out the characters in the way I want it to. In the end, it just fell flat for me. I gave it 3.5⭐️ on storygraph (which might be generous) — Crying in H-Mart, Michelle Zauner [started 05/09, finished 06/09] Have you even got a book that you know that you’ll love, so you just end up avoiding it at all costs? This is a memoir that I needed to read this slowly because it just felt incredibly special. And so painful. If you’re a first gen aapi with a difficult relationship with your mother, this is going to be a LOT for you. Sobbing, snotty, the whole works. Take long breaks in between reads if you need it. I luckily saved the heaviest part of the book for when I was taking an impromptu trip to the lake, surrounded by so much sun, mist, and life. The world was comforting me and wiping away my tears. 5.0⭐️ on storygraph!!

23.5 Degrees, GMMTV [started: 03/08, dnf] I only had time to catch episode 9 in May. I thought I would be able to complete the series this month, but alas it might be a DNF. Please tell me that the adorable teachers got together! — Doctor Who, Disney+ [started: 05/10, in prog] It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that DW is on here. I am a DW blog first, multifandom blog second. I’m loving the spin RTD is taking with the show for this run, having the genre touch on the supernatural/mythical/fantasy. It still has the same DNA but it’s so fresh. I only caught the first two eps on premiere week and haven’t had the time to keep up with the show weekly, but I am catching up soon. — Murderville, Netflix [started 02/10, finished: 05/23] I forgot to include this in my february wrap up, but I watched eps 1-4 back then and finally got around to seeing the last two eps this month. This show is such a delight! I love the unique twist on the concept of procedural improv, where the guest star actually have to solve the case at the end of the ep. They’re not there to just play off the other actors, they invite themselves to interact with the plot without taking it too seriously. If this sounds right up your alley to turn your brain down to like… 25%, please check this out. — Attack on Titan [started: 05/26, in prog] I have quite a journey ahead of me, but I’m happy to report that I LOVED the first ep. What a strong start to my anime era! This is gonna be my summer obsession, I can just feel it. By the time this posts, I will have seen eps two and maybe three(??). Gimme them right now, in an IV please. — Devil’s Plan, Netflix [started: 04/23, ALMOST complete] Bestie and I are OBSESSED with this competition series and we just learned there will be a s2, YAYY! This isn’t a show where you can turn your brain off. Now that I think about it, I don’t think there’s been a challenge I fully understood until ep 10, but man is it fun watching the contestants figure it out. They’re all SO intelligent and SOOO charming. And the games are so creative and elevated, it makes the stakes so charged! We are a few min into ep 11, out of 12, and we are planning to finish it this week. I don’t want this show to endddd!

Whew! I thought I didn’t watch much this month, but I covered a lot of ground on the TV front huh.

Pedro, Netflix [watched on 05/05] First off, you’ll be delighted to know that the artist and subject matter of the film, Pedro Friedeberg, has two cats named Wikipedia and Netflix. What I find so refreshing about this documentary in particular is Pedro, the unwilling participant during the process. The filmmaker, Liora Spilk Bialostozky, takes great care in sharing her insecurities about it. Liora is not shy about her adoration for her favorite artist and Pedro is very firm with his boundaries when pressed about his personal life. It makes for a very delightful, yet tense friendship between the two. — Polite Society [watched on 05/31] This is still fresh in my mind but what a spectacular film! LOVE how it puts the sister bond in the forefront of this classic action film, as well as all the female friendships. It makes the tonal shift flow seamlessly because the heart of the film beats strong. The best scene was the KHAN vs KHAN fight sequence, Ria vs Lena. The bashing, the biting, and the blood! The choice to make the final blow be self-inflicted, especially when it targets my personal experience, really took this film to new heights. I want to just ‘This movie has EVERYTHING’ meme the hell out of this. It has weird girls, judgmental aunties, college dropouts who have an estranged relationship with making art, torture scenes through the use of leg waxing, reproductive autonomy, FEMALE RAGE! It deserves to be up there when people think of 10 Things I Hate About You and Clueless.

GÉNESIS, Peso Pluma [first time listening] Before Coachella, I knew very little about Peso Pluma but his live performance really shot him to the top of my list of artists to catch up on. When I was little, my dad always had corrido playing in his car radio and to this day, he still occasionally plays it in the garage. What I really admire about GÉNESIS is the modern twists the artist takes in the production and writing, perfectly paying homage to the traditional without it sounding dated. I think it’s largely due to his vocals. He doesn’t shy away from perfecting at the cost of being authentic and it shines in songs such as Rubicon and 77. The latter half of the album really packs a punch, it’s so hard to pick a favorite. Everything from Lady Gaga to the end is just banger after banger after banger. Having this album play in my car… I really do take after my father. — LAS LETRAS YA NO IMPORTAN, Residente [first time listening] I first heard of Residente from the song Immigrants (We Get the Job Done) from the Hamilton Mixtape. Even then, I made a mental note to get back to him, but lost track of time until I started listening to Peso Pluma. This compilation consists of 23 songs and it’s such a sublime experience from beginning to end! It’s cinematic, it’s heavy, it’s a party, AND it’s skipless. He has a level of talent that has me raging!!! HE’S SO GOOOOOOD TF?!?!? The first time I heard 313, I wrote a note on my phone with “hhhhhhhh???!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!how dare he” and I stand by that statement. It’s almost six minutes long and not one second was wasted. Where Peso Pluma brings the traditional corrido to the present, Residente brings rap/hip-hop into the future. Whenever I get a chance to jump back into the album in the car, the songs I tend to gravitate towards are Artificial Inteligente, Cerebro, Yo No Sé Pero Sé, Que Fluya, and Las Letras Ya No Importan. This guy doesn’t miss, I hate him (affectionate). — Everything I Know About Love, Laufey [first time listening] This album is magnificent, I am UNWELL. The way I feel about this album is the same way I felt about Five Seconds Flat last summer: a feeling so bone deep, my soul begs for release. Bewitched was such a strong outing for me, so hearing little echos of it in the album before made the listen experience all the more enchanting. I’m so in love with this album. I’m actually convinced that Above the Chinese Restaurant is the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard. Ever. If I talk about this album more, it’s going to dig up so much of my deepest, darkest memories. I can’t… but also please talk to me about this album. — HIT ME HARD AND SOFT, Billie Eilish [first time listening] On gawd, what a stellar month for music, I can’t believe it! What a KNOCKOUT!! Billie and Finneas, I feel, have finally come home. They finally own their craft, refined it, and carved it into this marble masterpiece. Billie is more daring with her vocal range and exploring new avenues in her execution. The entirety of L’amour De Ma Vie was just me going “ARE YOU KIDDING ME????” 30 times over in the car. No but for real, is she joking? This is so ungodly, what am I supposed to do with myself?? HELP???? It’s a no-skip album, there is no top 5, no favorites list. It just is and it’s unbelievable that I can’t experience it for the first time all over again.

Read this and then ask yourself if she deserves anyone's resentment for being Paul McCartney's favorite girl friend.

SHE'S AS SLENDER as a willow wand, she's got long red hair and dark blue eyes, and she looks like a painter's dream girl-only with golden freckles.

Jane Asher was born in London on April 5, 1946. She is the daughter of a well-known London doctor. She is the sister of Peter Asher (one half of the swinging Peter and Gordon partnership). And she has a 15-year-old younger sister named Clare. Knowing her as Paul McCartney's favorite girl friend, one would presume that Jane's interest in music would be stictly pop. Not so. From her mother, a music professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London, Jane inherited a love for the classics. She plays guitar-but a classic guitar in the Spanish style-and her large collection of LPs is in the classical vein.

The Asher family lives in a large private home on Wimpole Street, the fashionable street for top doctors in London. Its superb old homesteads have enormous doors with traditional arched fanlights over them, and the rumor goes that you can see more Rolls Royces on Wimpole Street and Harley Street (the street that runs parallel to Wimpole, also dominated by exclusive doc-tors) than anywhere else in London.

Jane's career began at the age of five in the film Mandy, in which she played a deaf mute, Nina. Today Jane cannot recall playing this early role. Jane was featured in a series of grade-B movies until she got her big break (and a chance to show what a fine actress she is) in The Greengage Summer. She co-starred with Kenneth Moore and Susannah York. After that Jane did The Prince And The Pauper for' Disney, and her latest film is Masque Of The Red Death with Vincent Price. Jane has starred in over 20 TV shows and has starred in summer stock for two seasons. She has done over 100 broadcasts for the British Broadcasting Company and has cut two LPs based on the Lewis Carroll creation Alice, of Alice In Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass. In her private life Jane likes to sew, design clothes, play the oboe and read. She loves to dress in a manner that pleases her favorite beau (who just happens to be you-knowwho McCartney), and is often seen sporting leather dresses, slacks and coats. She is warm and imaginative.

Whatcha doin', Rachel Berry? Not winning the tournament, that's for sure! Isabella took Rachel out to the curb, with an impressive margin of 205 (89.1%) to 25 (10.9%). I'm sure Rachel will take it in stride, though -- after all, "you're all minorities, you're in the glee club" (Mr. Schue, s1e7)

In a somewhat surprising (and potentially upsetting) twist, the coded character beats the explicitly Jewish one in the battle of the Smart Bitches, knocking Christina Yang out early and keeping Miss Frizzle in the competition (175, 76.1% to 55, 23.9%). It's okay, Christina, there's space for you in the school bus. Field trip!

No surprises that our next matchup is as close as it is... with 119 votes (51.7%) to 111 (48.3%), the winner of the DC Patriarch matchup is Bruce Wayne himself, Batman. It's okay, Kal-El, I'm still thinking about the Hebrew School class when we discussed your story as a Moses allegory.

I'm convinced that Ben Grimm and Peter Parker go to the same synagogue, which makes his loss to the webslinger a bit easier to handle (29 votes to Spiderman's 201, 12.6% to 87.4%). BTW if y'all haven't read the comic where The Thing becomes canon Jewish, you're missing out.

Is anyone shocked that Spock won the Space Jews matchup? No? Me neither. As much as I love a good Futurama episode, nothing beats Nimoy. Zoidberg's going back in the dumpster he lives in behind the Planet Express building, bringing home 39 votes (17%) in comparison to Spock's whopping 191 (83%).

Yoinks, how'd the Scooby Gang manage to win this one? With a margin I by no means expected to be this definitive, the Mystery Machine pulls ahead of the ENTIRE cast of the X-Men with 154 votes (67%) to their 76 (33%).

In the war of the Magical Boys, the alchemy was not in Edward Elric's favor, getting only 39.1% of the vote (90) to Steven Universe's 60.9% (140).

The last of the neck and neck battles, turns out Sam Manson is going ghost, with 49.6% of the vote to Willow Rosenberg's 50.4% (114 to 116).

Perils of Napping

I get triggered by the term contact napping. It’s used by people who are generally against parents holding their kids while they sleep. Since I’m not one of these people, I can’t tell you what bothers them exactly. But something does because they call it contact napping instead of napping.

There are a lot of warnings out there. Apparently, once you start contact napping you won’t be able to quit it. Naps are more addictive than hard drugs. How will you get anything done if you hold a sleeping child? You’ll perish of exhaustion and then who will want to take care of your needy baby?

My baby, like all babies, likes to be held to sleep. He is currently 10 weeks old. And sometimes, don’t tell anyone with pediatrician in their job title, I hold him while he sleeps. You might think this is incredibly dangerous, as parenting books today make it seem like the leading cause of childhood death, behind accidentally drowning, is getting dropped off the sofa by your sleeping parents. I have not fallen asleep while holding my child on the sofa, yet, but I still feel guilty when I do it.

Because this is contact napping and apparently for my little human’s development, I should be laying him down always to sleep in a cold, dark, empty crib until he has a flat spot on the back of his head and he needs an expensive helmet to correct his neck tendons. I’m giving pediatrician’s flack, but my son actually has a great doctor who is very relaxed. He recommended a parenting guidebook and specified that we should use it to troubleshoot instead of looking things up on Doctor Google, which I think is generally good advice. Only problem is, its his job is to know my son, not me. No one has ever handed me a book I didn’t read cover to cover.

So reading this damn thing is where some of my bitterness comes from. The authors’ would have me believe that they put their kid down for every nap every day of their lives. My own experience as a child tells me this cannot possibly be true. Maybe it is. But I kinda want a kid like me. I want a kid who can sleep in the car on a forty hour road trip to Disney because their parents saved up for months, but didn’t want to pay to stay in a hotel to split up the drive, since that would be wasting money. I want a kid who can sleep at a summer concert, in the middle of July, and maybe crack an eye when the fireworks go off. I want a kid who can sleep at Buffalo Wild Wings on the table in between trivia questions with that weird little tablet gripped in their sticky little fingers (pretty sure they don’t use the plastic punch pad tablets anymore, I’d guess trivia’s on your cell phone now – feel free to correct me, I haven’t been to a BDubs in years).

I think napping on the go is an important trait. I don’t worry about this with my kid so much. I am confident he will inherit my super power…to sleep on trains, planes, and automobiles. His mom has woken up mid-trip to jump off a train two stations early in the middle of Rome (she doesn’t speak Italian). She’s also ridden all the way to Kenosha and had to turn around when she missed her stop having a good nap after work. These are important life experiences I wouldn’t want him to miss out on!

Problem Child

TW: Child Abuse

As a social worker, you’re bound to come across some really messed up stuff. I’ve been at this job for nearly twelve years and I’ve seen everything. Joel was raised in a kennel with a dog, he were so small I thought he was two years younger than he really was. Andrea went into a doctor’s appointment only for the doc to find out the kid had contracted chlamydia. Sophia who had been tied to a bed and beaten to ‘get the devils’ out of her. Fynn had been choked for enough time by his stepdad to have permanent brain damage.

But all of those kids have homes now. They were adopted by loving families. I send them cards on their birthdays. Joel is obsessed with Disney and went to Florida with his mom during summer vacation. Andrea now speaks regularly at sexual abuse seminars and helps other victims come forward about what they went through. Sophia wants to be an astronaut, Fynn is beating the odds and making us all proud with all he’s accomplishing.

I can’t say the same for Bonnie.

Bonnie only crossed my desk recently, her original caseworker had retired and no one else wanted to do checks on her. I couldn’t imagine why until she was sent back into the system. That’s when I cracked open that file and gave it a long read.

No one knows where Bonnie came from. They found her in the backseat of a car that had been in an accident, the driver appeared to have suddenly swerved and ran into a tree. It killed him instantly. However, when the driver was ID’d, he didn’t have children that age. The girl wasn’t one of his relatives, and she was found in a worn out carseat that had the name ‘Bonnie’ scrawled on it in black crayon.

As much as it irks me to say this, she was the perfect case for an easy adoption. Blue eyes, blonde hair, six months old and perfectly healthy. Exactly the kind of child that anyone would want. It’s no surprise to me that a lovely young couple brought her into their home within a week. I even found a newspaper clipping announcing that the Johnson’s family has grown by one. Cheesy, but cute.

But not even three weeks later and Bonnie was sent right back into the system, with no explanation other than ‘she’s a handful’. I did some digging and it does seem that the perfect Johnson couple were not nearly so perfect. A well check revealed that the garbage can was filled to the brim with wine bottles and Mr. Johnson had been fired from his workplace for embezzlement.

I actually looked them up to scrape up that last fact, I had gotten far too curious.

The next couple seems to be an even better fit, the Morrisons. They’d already adopted three year old Lily the year prior and they were excited to grow their family again. Mrs. Morrison was a teacher, Mr. Morrison was an accountant. Lily was a happy, healthy girl.

Well, she was.

Two weeks after Bonnie joined their perfect family, Lily was diagnosed with leukemia. This was out of nowhere. It worked fast. Before the year was out the family had shrunk, and the Morrison family had to buy a coffin that should never have to be made so small.

Everything fell apart after this. Mrs. Morrison started having an affair with one of her students, Mr. Morrison came home to them in bed and in a rage he shot them both. The teenage boy didn’t survive but Mrs. Morrison did, although she’d never be able to walk again. During the trial it came out that Mrs. Morrison felt like she was no longer in control of her actions, she claimed she was sleepwalking when she seduced her student and brought him into her bed. Funny part is, Mr. Morrison said he had no idea where he even got that gun- he didn’t own one, and it wasn’t registered to him either.

Obviously, little Bonnie had to be sent back into the system while her parents were sent to prison for statutory rape and murder.

I wish I could say it got easier for her from here… but it didn’t. Not at all. It got worse even. Not every house was as perfect as the Morrisons could’ve been. There are so many ‘parents’ out there that are in it for the paycheck. Frankly, they got what they deserved when Bonnie entered their house.

I was on the computer all night to see the path of destruction that laid in Bonnie’s wake. Housefires. Unexpected deaths, some explained, some not. Illness. Erratic and violent behavior. The most saintly of people became depraved maniacs, devolving into sexual deviants that sold their kids to sickos and downloaded terabytes upon terabytes of illegal porn. Big brothers began gutting cats and big sisters were found with their wrists slit in the bathtub. Parents threw children out the window on the second floor. Jobs were lost. Homes destroyed.

And the only thing in common with each and every one was Bonnie.

The last house probably had it the worst, the Raders. This poor couple hadn’t a damn clue what they were getting into when they adopted Bonnie, they’d already adopted three other ‘problem’ children who came from abusive pasts so they probably thought that Bonnie would be nothing new. Nothing unexpected.

Mr. Rader went into work last week and killed nearly every one of his coworkers with a shot gun. No one was spared and it ended only when he turned the gun on himself. The only survivor had managed to hide herself in the closet and she said that he didn’t say a word until everyone else was dead. Then she heard him start to scream uncontrollably, the screaming grew louder and louder until it was cut off by the final shot.

I can’t say the rest of the family had it easy. On the same day, Mrs. Rader drowned the youngest child in the bathtub, while the older children ran down the streets, naked and wailing. They finally managed to flag down a neighbor and told her, and I quote, ‘Mom’s gone crazy, she’s going to kill us all just because of Bonnie!’

When the police finally got home, Mrs. Rader had hung herself off the shower rod while Bonnie was busy drawing flowers in the basement. It was like she didn’t even know what was going on upstairs.

I’ve seen a lot of children, many who might be concerned ‘problems’. But Bonnie takes the cake. This child is a jinx in human form and I have no idea why.

So this is why I’ve agreed to foster Bonnie. I cannot let this child go into another home knowing what I do now.

Bonnie is one of the most beautiful children I’ve ever seen, dark golden curls and those wide eyes are such a bright blue they make the sky seem drab. She’s quiet, always says please and thank you, and I’ve yet to see any typical trouble making behavior- stealing, hoarding, lying, destroying.

I questioned her about all her previous homes, how her entire life she’s never spent more than seven months in a house. At the time we were enjoying dinner, and Bonnie looked up from her mac n’ cheese to ask for some applesauce. When I poured her some applesauce in a bowl, she took it and then she started talking.

“I’m a very bad thing. I can’t do good things, no matter how hard I try, and everyone around me gets hurt because of it. I’m sorry, I’ll try to do better this time.”

I pity this child. I don’t know if I trust her, but I do pity her. I only hope I can avoid the fate of Bonnie’s other families.

You Have My Attention: Artemis Fowl First Lines

In this house, we pretend that the absolute atrocity of a so-called film adaptation of the first book that Kenneth goddamn Branagh and Disney bitchslapped fans of the book with does not exist. Cool? Cool.

Artemis Fowl was one of the first series that I followed religiously and was one of the first fandoms I found myself in. There is something dry and absolutely sassy about the writing of these books, the character work is A+, and I dearly wish these books were better known, because they deserve to be read and loved. The audiobooks are also excellent, so if you (or your kiddos) are listeners rather than physical book readers, give those a shot. Let me introduce you to Eoin Colfer's first lines for all eight books.

Do you own a pair of Disney pajamas? Nope.

What are three of your favorite toppings for salads? Croutons...lots and lots of croutons. I also like chicken breast and raw tuna.

What was the last place you went out to eat? Today's itinerary was the exact same as last week's. We went to Mama Lou's again for lunch then made a quick stop at Blk 513 for froyo – or in my case, toppings with a deliberate request to lessen the yogurt because I actually don't like the yo part of froyo.

Do you have a lot of clutter in your home? A bit, but we're good at hiding them. We have drawers in each bedroom to keep said clutter and also have storage space under the stairs for the same purpose. We just like to keep certain things in case we might need them in the future.

What was the last pill you took? 💊 I took a Strepsils if that counts; but if it doesn't, I had a Biogesic a few months ago for a headache.

Are you happy with your current doctor? 👩‍⚕️ I don't have a regular doctor.

Is there a bottle of Benadryl in your medicine cabinet? As far as I know, no there isn't.

Do you take vitamins? I don't.

Does your hair need to be washed right now? It's a little dry as it usually gets after 12 hours, but I'll be washing it again tomorrow morning before work.

What was the last thing you ate? Fried chicken from McDonald's, with rice.

Do you prefer pizza or hot dogs? 🌭🍕 Pizza.

What is your favorite pizza topping? 🍕 Barbecue sauce and chicken. Or good ol mozzarella if we're going classic.

Is your dad a jerk? No. The older I get, the softer spot I have for him – and the more I understand him. It's been impossible for him to view him as a jerk.

What color are your fingernails painted? They're never painted.

Is anyone in your family currently in the military? Nope.

What was the last thing you bought at the dollar store? We don't have dollar stores, but the last I think I picked up at the closest equivalent store we have were some toys for the dogs.

Are prices of things going up where you live? Yes, inflation is very much felt. It wouldn't be as big of a problem if salaries/wages were adjusted accordingly, but that's not happening, and we're all just trying to play catch-up with the rising costs.

What color was the last carpet you sat on? Brown.

What is your favorite dog breed? Beagles, Samoyeds, and golden retrievers.

When was the last time you wore make-up? 💄 This morning. It was my usual minimal setup of concealer and BB cream (if the latter even counts?) because I don't even own anything else beyond those two + foundation.

'Regeneration is key to Doctor Who's longevity as an immortal being, but also when it comes to the show itself.

By introducing a different version of the Doctor every few years, new actors can be brought in to keep Doctor Who alive. It makes sense logistically and it also reinvigorates the series each time with a new face and outlook.

But 60 years in, the process of regeneration became somewhat predictable. It's still exciting, of course, yet with the reveal of each new actor taking place months ahead of their actual debut, these pivotal swaps haven't held quite as much gravitas as they should.

That all changed when Jodie Whittaker's Doctor surprised us by transforming into David Tennant, a face fans never expected to see return again in the role. Then that unprecedented shift came with an even bigger twist during Tennant's final returning episode, titled 'The Giggle', which introduced a whole new kind of regeneration entirely.

Bi-regeneration, perhaps the queerest thing to happen yet across these three already queer specials, split our Doctor into two separate Doctors, one with Tennant's face and the other with Ncuti Gatwa's. According to the Doctor, bi-regeneration is an ancient Time Lord myth, and that's why he's taken by surprise when it does actually happen.

Although the Toymaker and his big pointy laser are responsible for this in part, it seems likely that this was actually caused by the Doctor himself when he used salt at the edge of the universe just one week before, bending reality at a crucial point. If superstitions can now become real, why not myths like bi-regeneration?

It's a game-changing moment in more ways than one, but the most surprising ramification of all this hasn't even been addressed in the actual story yet. Instead, it's on the BBC iPlayer in-vision commentary for 'The Giggle', where showrunner Russell T Davies reveals bi-generation is even bigger than we thought.

When David Tennant and Ncuti Gatwa split apart, it turns out "a whole timeline bi-generated". Wibbly-wobbly terms aside, this essentially means that every previous regeneration has been impacted too, so every 'old' Doctor is now alive somewhere in a splintered timeline.

"I think all of the Doctors came back to life with their individual TARDISes, the gift of the Toymaker, and they're all out there travelling round in what I'm calling a Doctor-verse," said Davies. For example, "Sylvester McCoy woke up in a drawer, in a morgue, in San Francisco… and Jon Pertwee woke up on the floor of the laboratory."

This actually tracks with a previous reveal in the spin-off series Tales of the TARDIS where Sylvester McCoy's Seventh Doctor told Ace that his old face returned because: "Time streams are funny things. In some, I regenerate. In others, I don't. It's all a matter of perspective."

In short, there's an entire Whoniverse out there now populated with all the Doctors we've met before. That's always been true to some degree if you take into account that multiple Doctors exist across the timeline at any given point. However, with Davies suggesting this could "lead to all sorts of things," it's pretty much a given that more old faces will pop up shortly.

Like bi-generation, that's extremely exciting on the face(s) of it. Doctor Who crossovers of this magnitude are few and far between across the franchise's sixty-year history. Opening this possibility up means that David Tennant's return might just be the beginning of way more nostalgic comebacks like this, which could work well when it comes to characters like Paul McGann's underused Eighth Doctor.

Just putting that out there to anyone at the BBC who might be reading this...

However, opening the show up to all these potential returns could nevertheless end up being a dangerous game to play, even by the Toymaker's standards. With Doctor Who recently joining the Disney stable, there were already rumours that the franchise could be "Marvelised", with way more spinoffs extending the Time Lord universe.

Doctor Who is no stranger to spinoff shows, and done right, they can be extremely successful. Think Class, Torchwood or The Sarah Jane Adventures. But we're now living in a world where it's become obvious that we can have too much of a good thing, even with the franchises we love most. Don't forget how the advent of Disney+ brought more Marvel and Star Wars shows than ever, but with diminishing returns.

What starts with rumours of a UNIT series, or even a new show starring Tennant on Earth, could soon become an unwieldy mess that no sonic screwdriver could ever hope to untangle.

That Tennant rumour in particular is one to be wary of. The emotional heft of 'The Giggle' concentrated in large part on the Doctor's trauma, how he's never been able to rest and take stock of all the terrible things he's endured. That's why Tennant's face came back in the first place.

So the idea of undoing his perfect, happy ending by pushing him back out into the stars – or even making him do timey-wimey stuff on Earth – is concerning to say the least.

Just because Tennant's Doctor is so beloved, and just because this return paid off, doesn't mean an entire new side-quel would. But even if that isn't the plan, there's nothing to stop Davies or another future showrunner from bringing Tennant back again in some capacity. At least, as long as Tennant himself is on board.

And that's now true of any past Doctor, which is kind of a problem, dramatically speaking.

Just like how superheroes never truly die, almost any past incarnation of the Doctor is now just a phone call away, which diminishes the impact of death or regeneration and the new start it's supposed to bring.

As mentioned earlier, time travel did always make this a possibility, but by centring the "Whoniverse" as a key concept now moving forward, it blurs the lines even more so that "death" is now less important than ever.

Without a TARDIS of our own, it's impossible to know quite how successful or unsuccessful this soft reboot will be. But if nothing else, the sheer ballsiness of bi-regeneration and everything that's to come of it is exactly why we were so excited for Davies to return in the first place.

Change has always defined Doctor Who, so let's just hope these changes don't end up becoming too much of a good thing.'
