First Impressions of Tatcha Products | And, this makes for a fantastic Mothers Day present!
How is everyone doing in this quarantine world? Hope you’re taking care of yourself and not letting the negative aspects of this pandemic influence your actions.
So I finished the jar of Laneige night cream that I wrote about back in September (you can check it out here); totally liked it but also have been itching to try Tatcha products. I signed up for their e-newsletters and I gotta admit, their’s is the only one where I actually take the time to open each time I receive it because they have such beautiful photography and colors.
I’ve been using the Dewy Skin Cream for the past few nights and am really loving it. It doesn’t feel greasy, just hydrating and the light scent is lovely!
It’s not just a pretty product - it’s made with healthier ingredients such as antioxidant-packed Japanese purple rice, algae, hyaluronic acid, botanical extracts and oils. And what’s also very attractive to me is that it ISN’T made with mineral oil, synthetic fragrances, sulfate detergents, parabens, urea, DEA, TEA, nor phthalates.
Not only is the jar stunning, their packaging is beautiful. It’s nicely packed and comes with a hand-written card. You might not be able to see it above, but the card has a chic, gold foil detail on their logo. Ordering from them is perfect for giving as gifts! Upon checking out on their website, you get to choose 3 free samples (which I’ve combined and shown with my sunscreen order in the last two photos).
I love the cute little golden scooper on the cap which looks like a vintage hair ‘pin.’ (Forgot what those are called.) I didn’t take a photo of this, but it does come with one of those white inner caps that go between the product and the screw-cap to keep it extra fresh.
Oh, Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen! You are expensive but so worth it. I freaking love the scent. It’s very light. AND I love how it feels on my skin. It’s weightless and spreads easily, feels hydrating, not dry or chalky. It says it’s made with “Japanese wild rose which helps tighten the look of pores and smooths skin texture, and loquat leaf extract offers a rich source of antioxidants to protect and calm skin.” I am down for that, mm hmm!
Look how cute that sample bottle of Camellia cleansing oil is. I haven’t tried it yet as I’m saving it for when I travel. Both products (the dewy skin cream and the sunscreen) come in travel sizes, too.
I’m definitely looking forward to the day when I can travel again. In the meantime, I’m going to treat my skin with Tatcha.
What are some of your current favorite skincare items? Let me know by clicking on the comments button up above. Take care.
XO

What luxury products do you recommend? What drugstore products are must haves? What do you use to determine which foundation is a good shade vs which requires to be mixed? What shade of lipstick do you think anyone could pull off?
luxury products i recommend:
hourglass in general, but specifically the veil translucent setting powder, (especially if you have dry skin), vanish stick foundation (best for dry/combo and in the spring/summer, my fav foundation ever to exist), and their scattered light glitter eyeshadows. I want to try more from them since they’re such a high quality brand but so expensive lmao. but in my opinion worth it!
tatcha, specifically the silk canvas primer and water cream moisturizer. i’m currently on my second silk canvas, that’s how much of a ride or die it is for me. there is a serious difference in the application of makeup as well as prolonged longevity every time i use it. i use it on conjunction with the first aid beauty coconut smoothie moisturizing primer for some dewiness but i can never do my makeup without it. i even wear it along to smooth out my skin and reduce my redness. it’s truly a luxury product that i cannot recommend enough. the water cream is a fantastic moisturizer because it adds so much hydration while being extremely light weight and sinking into skin almost immediately and also effortlessly. for winter, it has been such a must have, especially if you have sensitive skin.
marc jacobs highliners and lip glosses. both have beautiful formulas and last forever, especially the eyeliners, i just wish they weren’t so expensive lmao.
i’m not entirely sure if nars counts as luxury, and i don’t purchase them anymore since they are no longer cruelty free, but some products from them that i still adore are the natural radiant foundation, their highlighters, and the climax mascara. i miss the foundation so so much, if they ever go cruelty free again i am purchasing at least 3 lmao
as well as the lancome teint idole foundation, another incredible foundation i can no longer purchase but still adore and always recommend.
you said luxury and not high end so i won’t include those recommendations in this ask, but if you’d like those as well just let me know i’d be more than happy to include them!
now for drugstore/affordable must have products:
colourpop all the way, specifically their eyeshadows, super shock highlighters, and lip products. my favorite palettes from them are yes please, dream st, and through my eyes. my favorite super shock highlighters are flexitarian and on the cusp. my favorite lip products are hands down their lux lipsticks, and my favorite shades include appy, boy, and lay over. i also really enjoy their ultra glossy lips, such as moonchild and drippin. i don’t always love their ultra matte lips, but the one in the shade suene de coco is a beautiful nude and i absolutely adore it.
flower beauty makes the most beautiful cream blushes which are the blush bombs. they are a dupe for the glossier cloud paints, and are much dewier and in my opinion sheer out a lot more easily. my favorite shade is pinched, i wear it almost every single day.
nyx makes the best liquid liner hands down. they have both a liquid and pen version and are both fantastic. i also loooove their glitter primer and butter glosses.
physician’s formula’s whole butter line is fantastic, such as their butter bronzer, blushes, and highlighters.
makeup revolution’s extra spice eyeshadow palette with sophdoesnails is seriously one of my favorite affordable palettes. it’s such high quality and has a great range of colors, the price is pretty insane for it if you ask me (only $15 for 18 shades!)
juvia’s place makes incredible affordable eyeshadow palettes as well.
for foundation matching, i suggest going in store and using the testers to see what shade is closest to your neck and if there’s no exact shade, then mix the two shades in between.
for shades of lipsticks anyone can pull off, imo mauve nudes. i feel like literally everyone looks good in a mauvey or peachy nude.

Best Drugstore Primers
Hey y’all! Welcome back! Today we will be discussing primers. So what is a primer? A primer is used on your skin before applying any product on your face. It serves as a barrier to protect your skin from the makeup being applied. There are so many types of primers so you should find one that works with your skin type. I would recommend a hydrating primer for dry skin and a mattifying primer for oily skin.
Some primers even make your makeup last longer. Some fill in your pores for a smooth and flawless look. Others have glitter and will give you a dewy look. Honestly, the number of different primers are endless. But those are the basics. Primers also come in a liquid, cream, or stick formula.
Everyone always thinks that high-end products work better but I’ve found some drugstore favs that are even better than those! I wanted to share all of my favs with y’all!
The first primer I have for y’all is the e.l.f Putty Primer. It retails for $8 and can be found at any drugstore or Ulta store. It’s suitable for all skin types and the claims are that it’s “Mattifying, Moisturizing, Oil-absorbing, Pore-minimizing”. It’s also cruelty-free! This primer comes in putty or cream-like formula and is applied with your hands. It makes your foundation look super smooth and looks incredible in photos. This is a dupe for the Tatcha The Silk Canvas primer. It retails for $52 and can be found at Sephora and tatcha.com. The price difference is huge and the results are the same! So please try this out and let me know how you like it!
The next primer is the e.l.f Jelly Pop Dew Primer. It retails for $10 and can be found at any Ulta near you. As you can tell I like e.l.f products. This foundation smells like watermelon and it feels so refreshing on your face. It comes in a sticky, gel formula that can be applied with your fingers. It makes your makeup last longer and apply smoother. It’s more moisturizing than the putty primer so if you have dry skin try this out!
Please try any of these two primers because they are lifechanging! Your makeup game will forever be changed. Let me know your final thoughts and favorite foundations to pair them with. I’ll talk to y’all in my next post!

Fab 5 August
A day late, but better than never, right? August has flown by, and there were quite a few contenders for this list that helped me get through it all while still looking and feeling good-- physically, mentally, and emotionally. So here are the five things that I fell in love with this month.
Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Night Concentrate
Tumblr media
This is the most amazing night cream that has ever graced my face. It’s not even really a cream, it’s more of a water-gel type texture, so slippery that you need their little spoon to get it out of the jar. It’s such a pleasure to use, my skin feels instantly pampered. And by morning, my skin is hydrated, glowing, and visibly more plumped.
Tumblr media
It’s got a decadent price tag to match, unfortunately, although I received this jar from my mother for my birthday. But remember, Tatcha is cruelty free, and also donate a portion of their proceeds to Tatcha’s Beautiful Faces, Beautiful Futures partnership with Room to Read allowing girls from impoverished countries to attend school.
Make Up For Ever Star Lit Powder
Tumblr media
You all know I love a good highlight. Sheen is where it’s at. And I wanted a more unnaturally-hued highlighter for my more adventurous days, so I purchased this in the color Frozen Purple. The powder is super fine, and even though the jar is small, it will last a long time, since a little goes a long way. It’s also got some serious shimmer.
Tumblr media
The formula includes Pure Mother of Pearl, and man does it catch the light. I love the purple tone too, which I like to think gives me a bit of a sexy robot vibe. I fell in instant love with this highlighter the first time I used it, and the honeymoon phase has no end in sight.
DevaCurl Supercream Coconut Curl Styler
Tumblr media
This was an impulse buy based on my current love of all things coconut and my need for a nee way to wrangle my hair in the humidity. Just one pump of this non-sticky cream is all I need to control the frizz, give my waves some bounce, and moisturize each strand. I don’t have to worry about my hair at all as it air dries; I know it will look great. I also don’t look greasy on the second day.
PÜR Fully Charged Magnetic Mascara
Tumblr media
I bought this mascara after Niomi Smart recommended it on her channel. I was very interested in the magnetic thing, and I had a coupon to Ulta, so I gave it  a whirl. It gives almost a fake-lash look, which I love. Plus it’s fortified with a vitamin B5 and Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1 to condition and strengthen lashes. It’s not waterproof, so in certain situations, I have had to tidy up my undereye in the afternoon. But this is my go-to mascara for daytime. Plus, it’s cruelty free!
The Sinner
Tumblr media
I love a good who-done-it, but this limited run series takes that a step further. We see Jessica Beal’s character kill a man in the first couple minutes of the first episode. But we don’t know why-- she doesn’t even know why. This poor, fucked up gal had a terrible childhood (which we see through flashbacks) and whole months missing from her memory. She’s putting together the pieces at the same time we are. Plus there’s Bull Pullman as the kind detective with some sex preferences that could only make it to television after 10 pm. A lot has been made of Jessica Beal’s performance, but my unpopular opinion is that she’s basically just a mildly beautiful wet blanket. Luckily the bonkers storyline could make me watch and LOVE this series no matter who's on the screen.
