Okay, so I LOVE TALKING SKINCARE. This is a huge topic for me and I often write up a blog post once a year where i recommend skin care products. So here is this year’s recommendation! An insanelyyyyy long and detailed post nobody asked for!! HERE WE GO:

I am a long time skincare advocate...before it really blew up and people started really getting to know more about their products and ingredients. I’ve just always had very acne-prone skin so I’ve had to pay attention to what products and ingredients I was using and how their formulas worked for me. As a result, over the years I tried A SHIT TON of products. Many expensive, fancy, high end, etc. But now I have my skincare routine down to a much more manageable and quality ingredient list. Obviously everyone’s skin is different...but this is what I use on a regular basis these days:

Serums:

- Krave Beauty’s Great Barrier Relief Serum: Honestly, this is THE SHIT. My favorite moisturizing serum to really help balance your skins hydration barrier and stay hydrated. It’s thicker and almost feels like a moisturizer. It’s so great. - The Ordinary’s Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Drops: Niacinamide is an amazing ingredient for your skin and can help a tremendous amount with clearing the skin, resurfacing, fading scars, and more. This really does a good job helping with my acne, so i really recommend to anyone. And I am pretty sure it’s like $5 cause it’s from the ordinary.

Moisturizers:

- CeraVe Moisturizing Cream: It’s a very cheap drug store moisturizer that has good, clean ingredients. After using fancy moisturizers for years, I finally gave into my dermatologist’s recommended lotion. LOL. They do have a lotion that is lighter, but my skin tends to be dryer, especially in the winter so I use the cream not the lotion. It’s thicker. (For high end junkies--it’s like comparing Drunk Elephant’s LaLa Retro to their Protini cream). I also sometimes throw in drops of a marula oil into this cream if I am really dry. Make myself a little face smoothie.

Eye/Lip Creams:

- Mario Badescu Ceramide Herbal Eye Cream: Now honestly, I still haven’t found my perfect eye cream yet...but I have used this one for a few years now. It moisturizes well and is cheap to buy. It’s probs not the most effective but at least I am moisturizing my eye area. One day I will take on more eye creams that target certain things, but that is one day when I have money to spend lmao. -Glossier Bubblewrap Lip/Eye Cream: This is a very unique moisturizing product that is meant for sensitive skin like your eye area and lips. It does say it plumps a bit, which I don’t ever feel a plumping effect, but I do love to use it on my lips. It’s so moisturizing and is kind of like using a primer before you apply chapstick or lipstick.

Exfoliators:

- Glossier Solution: The OG chemical exfoliant I tried and loved. These types of products aren’t great for everyone, and may have to be used less or more depending on skin type, but as an acne-prone human, I love a chemical exfoliant. This works and lasts a long while.

- Krave Beauty’s Kale-Lalu_AHA: Another chemical exfoliant. I recently tried this one because I do believe Krave Beauty uses better ingredients than Glossier Skin typically does (no shade tho). They were close in price, so I made the switch and have enjoyed the results so far. The packaging is also beautiful.

- Dr. Brant Microdermabrasion Exfoliant: This is NOT a chemical peel, this has aluminum oxyde crystals in it to polish the skin like a normal exfoliant would. It also has a lot of ingredients that help renew and refresh the skin while exfoliating. Now this product is HELLA expensive...I only have it because I once bought it for way cheaper when I had a subscription box. I don’t know if I would spend the full $80 bucks on it, but your skin does feel smooth.

- Tatcha The Deep Polish: This is an enzyme powder that you mix with water and exfoliate fro there. It is from when I used to buy the highest end products in hopes it would help my skin. It is pricey, but again does leave your skin feeling soft. So I rotate it in from time to time.

Masks:

- The Ordinary’s AHA 30% BHA 2% Peeling Solution: AKA THE BLOOD MASK. Now hugely popular on social media, the “blood mask” is a chemical mask that peels off dead skin and essentially works to eliminate the top layers of your skin and begin rejuvenating a fresher layer for softer, healthier, plumper skin. I do this once a week and it is way cheap. I can compare it to Drunk Elephant’s Sukari Babyfacial and it definitely beats that expensive version.

- Glow Recipe’s Avocado Melt Sleeping Mask: This is an overnight moisturizing mask that you simply wash off in the morning. It really helps lock in moisture and feels nice on the skin. I use this when I am feeling really dry.

- Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay Mask: This one you have to mix the dry clay mixture with water and apple cider vinegar to create a goo that you can then let dry on your face. It may be intense for some, but I find it really helps dry out my acne spots and reduce redness in my skin. It’s always a fun one to do with other people too because you do have to prepare it. Good sleepover activity.

- GlamGlow Bubble Sheet Mask: This one is honestly more so used for when I am traveling and want to keep a mask on hand or when I am having a fun girls night or something. It’s a bubble mask--so to me that just means fun. I typically avoid sheet masks (unless I am traveling) because I think you end up throwing a way a lot of product you are paying for. But this one is fun, it’s cute, it’s different. I don’t notice a huge change in my skin tbh, but it is a fun activity for girls night.

Honorable Mention/Random Products:

- Youth to the People’s Kale and Green Tea Superfood Cleanser: I stayed away from this one for a long time because it’s expensive and I could rationalize buying such an expensive cleanser, but I got a gift card to Sephora and finally decided to try it. And ya know what?? I guess I am fancy now because I really love it. It does not overly strip your skin at all, and for the first time in my life I really know what that means. It’s so great, it smells so good. Ugh. Can’t get enough of this bougie bitch of a face wash.

- The Inkey List Retinol Cream: A recent purchase, but I have enjoyed seeing the results. Everyone imo should be using an eye cream and a retinol. This is a nice introduction to retinol, so I recommend to those looking for one.

- Glossier Mint Balm Dot Com Chapstick: THIS AGAIN--IS THE SHIT. Many will say they would never spend more than two bucks but one tube of their’s is seven bucks and it is WORTH IT. I buy the three pack once a year and i’m good. This is the best chapstick you will literally ever use. Fucking buy it. If I could tell you only three products that are a must from this list this would be one of them. (the other two would be great barrier relief and the kale cleanser)

- Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask: I like this lip mask, it’s not needed everynight, but I do like to use a lip exfoliant (made or buy one, whatever) and then use this to really retextures my lips.

- Bag Balm: Now this is a very unusual product to recommend lmaooo. Originally, bag balm is used for chapped cow udders on farms--which is how I discovered it. Farmers eventually noticed that it helped your skin retain moisture and repair cracked skin in their hands. So now it is known as a good thick ass cream for hands and feet. Now this shit is again--used on cows originally, so the formula feels thick and greasy. I like putting it on at night and letting it soak in for a while as I lay on my phone. It really works--I swear to you.

- Sagely CBD Cream: I use their relief and recovery crea which smells like lavender and has a cooling effect when applied to the skin (kinda like biofreeze or icyhot would). This is only a 50mg CBD lotion, but I do like it.

- Mad Ritual CBD Muscle Recovery Balm: Now this is thick and definitely a balm, not a cream. It is much higher strength though, so I break it out when needed and a little goes a long way. This one is 200mg of CBD.

- Mario Badescu Drying Lotion: This drying lotion is now so popular but has been a staple of mine for at least a decade now. You leave it on over night and it really does dry up and reduce zit size. Helps a lot. There must be a reason why super models are told to use this shit before a runway show.

- Tatcha The Essence: Essences are a new and kind of weird thing, kinda like priming the skin to allow for better absorption of a product. Now this product I received as a Christmas gift one year, but I am pretty sure it’s like $100...breaking the bank as always, tatcha. Anyway, it does allow for better absorption of products and feels light and refreshing on the skin. One bottle has lasted me two years now. I don’t know if I would recommend it, but I do use it somewhat regularly and it does make you feel like a bougie bitch.

AND THAT IS THE END. Sorry that was soooo long. But like I said, I do a write up once a year of my skincare products anyway. So there you guys have it!! For a while ive been meaning to post my skincare routine. This is it!

My favorite products. It has taken a lot of trial and error to get here. Right now i definitely im living for peach and lilys glass skin serum and paulas choice c15 boost.

A product i think will always be part of my raoutine no matter what is the maycoop raw sauce. I rage about it so much but god! It is amazing. A great product to practice 7 skins if thats something youre interested in.

The inkeylist HA is definitely amazing. The consistency is just right. Not tacky and it doesnt peel even tho a little bit goes a long way with this one.

Because of winter I havent been using the glycolic acid as much because my skin had been dry. But i have been using the Paulas choice 2%BHA it is not as harsh on the skin with only 2% but its an amazing product. Has definitely reduce the amount of blackheads on my nose and cleaned the pores.

Thats where the Tatcha water cream comes in as a fucking savior. It is expensive, price point about $68 on sephora but is it worth it!? Of course it fucking. Its an amazing moisturizer

To seal all of these i use the Lapis oil from herbivore and this oil is fucking amazing. Id mostly recommend this at the end of your nightly routine. In the morning you will see your face is so different it is insane. When i dont use this and feel that my face needs extra hydration i finish up with youth to the peoples glow mask. It is so good!!!!

*not shown here my two cerave cleansers. The hydrating cleanser and the SA renewal cleanser. I use the SA sometimes and then double cleanse with the hydrating one. Only because the SA can dry your skin during winter but it is amazing!!!!

i understand. when i was breaking out a few years ago i was scared to use moisturizer but i started using water based hydrators (like gels and stuff) instead of thicker, heavier moisturizers.

so the hydrating water-based gel by l’occitane is the one i used. i loved it because it felt nice and cooling on my skin and didn’t clog my pores at all.

there’s a gel version of the kiehl’s moisturizer i use which is good for oilier skin and doesn’t make you greasy or clog you up.

the water cream by tatcha is expensive but it’s derma recommended and the BEST one i think you could use by far. i think it’s worth the price, but i understand not getting this one because $62 is a lot.

the ordinary has a 2% hyaluronic acid + b5 hydrating serum which is VERY reasonably priced (it’s literally $6.80 lol) and will definitely not clog you up.

glow recipe’s watermelon moisturizing gel is so good, dude. so so so good. and it smells amazing. it’s lightweight, cooling, and moisturizing, and I LOVE how it leaves skin glowy and pretty.

AND LASTLY the clinique id stuff is amazing. you can pick and choose which one you want but for acne prone, i rec this one and this one in that order. (the first one is oil control which is what acne-prone skin needs)

Absolutely no one: Influencer: So a lot of you have been asking me about my skincare routine...

Guess I have hopped on this meme bandwagon ;-)

I initially wasn’t sure if I should even write about my nightly skincare routine because skincare routines are so subjective to each individual. But I thought that it would be nice to share what are my holy grail products that I love and have, and will re-purchase over and over again.

I definitely use a wider range of products than what is pictured here; I often swap serums and moisturizers depending on my mood, but there are some staples that I love so much that I wouldn’t want to try anything else.

I have been told that I have a pretty crazy skincare routine, but skincare to me is pretty therapeutic, so it’s not too much of a hassle. My go-to toner right now is the FRESH Rose Floral Toner. Ever since I tried this 1-2 years ago, I have not used anything else. Really helps that this toner lasts so long despite how generous I am with it. Sometimes I buy travel sizes of different toners to try, but it ends up unused because I just love this toner so much. Some of my friends prefer the Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner because it has more benefits, but I like to spritz on my toner, which is why I opted for this instead. However, I might switch to try the other one after I finally finish my current bottle (I’m left with 1/3, so hopefully by the end of the year).

I usually then exfoliate with PRISM, followed by a serum of my choice. I alternate between Glossier’s Super Glow, the It’s Skin Effectors, or the Real Propolis Ampoule from Answer19+ - this Korean brand that is pretty underrated as well. What I love about using serums is that it provides your skin with a lot more nutrients than if you just use a plain moisturiser. I always thought that using serums with moisturisers might be too much for the skin, but after using both for maybe around a year now, you can really see the benefits, depending on what sort of serum + moisturizer combination you choose. Personally, my skin isn't as dull as it used to be, and I find myself feeling more comfortable in my bare skin because of it.

Sometimes in between steps, I also use a mist to refresh the skin. I love Pixi’s Hydrating Milky Mist because it just feels like airy clouds of hydrating goodness just cooling my face. I spray this all the time - in between my routine, and even after I put on oil, just for the fun of it. Sometimes, when I don’t want to have such a heavy routine, I substitute this mist as my moisturizer instead. This mist is pretty affordable at $22 SGD, and I have already repurchased this after quickly running out of my first bottle. I also have Herbivore’s Rose Hibiscus Facial Mist, but this one is still my favourite.

For moisturiser, I really love Origins’ Original Skin Matte Moisturizer with Willowherb. I was so worried when I first got this product because a matte moisturizer is usually catered for the oily skinned, which I am not. However, this moisturiser is gentle, works very well on my skin without having me feel overly greasy or sticky, and it works really well with the brightening serums I use. If I want something gentler and more hydrating, I use Laneige’s Lavender Water Sleeping Mask, which also works wonders. I am definitely repurchasing these two moisturisers when I finally run out. I have also tried alternatives like Belif’s Aqua Bomb, or the Tatcha Water Cream, but the former I find too gel-like and the latter too expensive.

My eye cream and lip balm are both from Laneige - simply because it’s affordable, and easy to use. The Water Bank Eye Gel EX is nothing miraculous, but it does it’s job to moisturize my under eyes. Does it work wonders in getting rid of my eyebags and fine lines? Not really. But I think it does work as a preventive measure because since using it I haven’t been developing even more wrinkles around my under eyes.

The Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask however, is the bomb. This works so much better than a regular lip balm. It works really well for both the humid weather here, as well as in super dry winters when I travel. I love to slather a thick layer of the lip mask before I sleep, and I will wake up to a fresh pair of lips that are hydrated and supple. Plus, they also come in different scents. I have both the Berry (pictured here) and the Vanilla lip balm. My favourite is the Vanilla one, but unfortunately they might be discontinuing it so I might have to purchase the Berry scented one for future use. This lip mask actually also has a ton of good reviews all round, so this might be the one product to check out if you’re looking to amp up your current routine.

Lastly, facial oils! I think everyone’s biggest initial concern when using facial oils is that it’s very ironic. We all want to avoid looking greasy and oily, but using facial oil is alright? When first researching on it, facial oils are said to help lock in the moisture and nutrients from your previous skincare steps, and this is so true. My first facial oil was Sunday Riley’s Juno Face Oil, and while this product has had mixed reviews on its effectiveness, I found that it does moisturise my skin and help magnify the benefits of the other skincare products I use in tandem with the oil. However, I don’t really like the smell of it - it smells kind of herby and earthy which is slightly off putting. While it’s not necessarily a miracle worker, I would say that I am pretty happy with it and might repurchase because I have finished this already.

On a side note, I am quite picky with my face oils because I once had an allergic reaction to Drunk Elephant’s Marula Oil, one of the oils that is widely acclaimed in the beauty world. Because of that, I tend to be more careful with the sort of oils I apply on my face. The other oil that I use regularly is Pixi’s Rose Oil Blend that smells amazing and is also not too bad. It’s also much cheaper than Sunday Riley, so if you are interested in trying facial oils, this oil might be a better first product to use. Other products that I am looking to try would be Herbivore’s Orchid Facial Oil - this smells really good and I have heard good reviews about this: for both its price point and product quality, so I am tempted to try this for my next facial oil purchase.

Overall though, it’s not necessary to incorporate that many steps in your skincare routine. Ultimately your skincare routine should be personalised to what you think is best for you, and not just a one-size-fits-all solution. For instance, you can include masking as a step instead (I have this additional step most of the time) and take out serums if you don’t want to layer on so many things. Or if you're like my mum who doesn’t believe in the effects of facial oil, you don’t have to do it as well. The point is really to find a good mix of products that synergize well together to really bring about the best benefits for your skin. If you’re dry-skinned, have more hydrating products in the mix. If you have oily skin that is prone to breakouts, use more balancing products that aim to calm and soothe any redness and infection. I would also recommend adding a dash of anti-aging properties once in awhile just to prevent any serious damage before it’s too late.

But yes - skincare shouldn’t be a hassle, and it definitely shouldn’t be an obligation! Although not all of us are blessed with good skin and will need to take time to get a good routine that works, when you get to that stage where you feel good about your bare skin, you will know that it’s worth it.

luxury products i recommend:

hourglass in general, but specifically the veil translucent setting powder, (especially if you have dry skin), vanish stick foundation (best for dry/combo and in the spring/summer, my fav foundation ever to exist), and their scattered light glitter eyeshadows. I want to try more from them since they’re such a high quality brand but so expensive lmao. but in my opinion worth it!

tatcha, specifically the silk canvas primer and water cream moisturizer. i’m currently on my second silk canvas, that’s how much of a ride or die it is for me. there is a serious difference in the application of makeup as well as prolonged longevity every time i use it. i use it on conjunction with the first aid beauty coconut smoothie moisturizing primer for some dewiness but i can never do my makeup without it. i even wear it along to smooth out my skin and reduce my redness. it’s truly a luxury product that i cannot recommend enough. the water cream is a fantastic moisturizer because it adds so much hydration while being extremely light weight and sinking into skin almost immediately and also effortlessly. for winter, it has been such a must have, especially if you have sensitive skin.

marc jacobs highliners and lip glosses. both have beautiful formulas and last forever, especially the eyeliners, i just wish they weren’t so expensive lmao.

i’m not entirely sure if nars counts as luxury, and i don’t purchase them anymore since they are no longer cruelty free, but some products from them that i still adore are the natural radiant foundation, their highlighters, and the climax mascara. i miss the foundation so so much, if they ever go cruelty free again i am purchasing at least 3 lmao

as well as the lancome teint idole foundation, another incredible foundation i can no longer purchase but still adore and always recommend.

you said luxury and not high end so i won’t include those recommendations in this ask, but if you’d like those as well just let me know i’d be more than happy to include them!

now for drugstore/affordable must have products:

colourpop all the way, specifically their eyeshadows, super shock highlighters, and lip products. my favorite palettes from them are yes please, dream st, and through my eyes. my favorite super shock highlighters are flexitarian and on the cusp. my favorite lip products are hands down their lux lipsticks, and my favorite shades include appy, boy, and lay over. i also really enjoy their ultra glossy lips, such as moonchild and drippin. i don’t always love their ultra matte lips, but the one in the shade suene de coco is a beautiful nude and i absolutely adore it.

flower beauty makes the most beautiful cream blushes which are the blush bombs. they are a dupe for the glossier cloud paints, and are much dewier and in my opinion sheer out a lot more easily. my favorite shade is pinched, i wear it almost every single day.

nyx makes the best liquid liner hands down. they have both a liquid and pen version and are both fantastic. i also loooove their glitter primer and butter glosses.

physician’s formula’s whole butter line is fantastic, such as their butter bronzer, blushes, and highlighters.

for foundation matching, i suggest going in store and using the testers to see what shade is closest to your neck and if there’s no exact shade, then mix the two shades in between.

for shades of lipsticks anyone can pull off, imo mauve nudes. i feel like literally everyone looks good in a mauvey or peachy nude.

My Tatcha Review (Still Updating)

I've heard so much about Tatcha, a very overpriced skin care. I am trying out samples and as they come in, making my assessment if they are worth the full price. Items are either worth it, a splurge (aka do not buy if on a budget) or a no-go.

My skin type is normal/dry.

The Water Cream - Feels lovely and absorbs into my skin. My skin felt soft without feeling like there was anything on top of my skin. I am impressed with how it works. This is a splurge. I would use in the day time underneath a sunscreen.

The Rice Polish: Calming - I don't know if the type matters (calming vs classic vs etc), but wow! This really impressed me. It left my skin feeling squeaky clean without feeling stripped. And my skin felt very smooth. I just never experienced my skin feeling this way before. It literally felt polished! This is worth it for me. Adding to my budget. Since you don't need much powder, it seems like an item that should last. My sample should probably last me. I plan to use a few times a week.

Kissu Lip Mask: This is now my go-to lip balm. As for a night time lip treatment, Langiege is better. But for day time, I love it. The consistency, staying power, and feeling of moisture I feel on my lips. This is a splurge item.

Silk Peony: I don't really notice anything with this eye cream. As a recommedation, I would have to say "no go". I'm literally just using it to stay on brand and see if it works over time. My sample should last me at least the rest of the year I think.

The Pearl: WORTH IT. This is like an under eye concealer. It is amazing. It looks like I have nothing under my eye. My dark "bags" are just gone. No creasing. A little dab will do. My sample should last me like the rest of the year (I don't use daily). Really impressed. Not interested in concealer from any other brand. Great for those who aren't keen on taking time for makeup or like the no-makeup-makeup look.

I don't think there's a certain way one is "supposed to" look or feel in their 30s . I know that aging is a part of life that we all experience, but that doesn't mean that I can't amp up my beauty routine as I progress through life. Some embrace the signs of aging; I've chosen to fight them in the most noninvasive ways that I can for now. Truth be told, I have always looked young for my age. (Just an example: When I was 11, I was being cast as 7-year-olds in plays.) Even now, at 35 years old, I get carded from time to time and get a lot of comments from strangers about not looking my age when I share it. I like to think that my current skincare routine has something to do with that—at least I hope so, given the amount of time and money I spend on it. (It's worth noting that something I don't often spend money on is facials—I prefer to invest in products I can use again and again). As you know, one of the most important things you can do to offset aging is to avoid the sun, which I've always done (save for a few of my teenage years…). I wear sunscreen every single day, and if you don't, it's definitely never too late to start. Aside from that, read for the details of my daily beauty routine from morning to night, including makeup, and shop the products I swear by (like my holy-grail sunscreen). I don't get enough sleep, and my morning routine is usually pretty rushed, so I focus on trying to fake looking awake and protecting my skin from the elements. I know the price seems high for a face wash, but I've been using this for years, and it's worth it. It's mildly exfoliating and never leaves my dry skin feeling tight. You've probably heard how important vitamin C—and the antioxidants that come along with it—and ferulic acid are for your skin, so I always start with this. It has a subtle brightening effect, but I mostly use it for the damage-prevention factor. I love a serum, and this one has so much good stuff in it. And it absorbs instantly, making it a great option for busy mornings. If you're just starting to use anti-aging products, this is a great place to start. I shake a bit of this into the above serum before applying, and the skin-brightening effects are truly instant. You can shake it into any product, so it's completely error-proof. Plus, antioxidants! This is the product on this list I've been using the longest by far. It applies like a beautiful lightweight moisturizer and has zero scent. Plus, the SPF is very high, but it doesn't leave a white cast. I've re-bought it countless times over the years. Can't forget about the sensitive eye area. This cream is very light and sinks right in. I apply it right after my sunscreen. Bonus: It helps combat the signs of aging. I don't know about you, but my eyes can be very red when I wake up (might have something to do with only getting six hours of sleep). I put one drop of this in each eye, and they're perfectly white and clear in seconds. Plus, it doesn't burn. Not sure how I ever lived without it. I don't really leave the house without makeup on, but I definitely don't wear a lot of it. I find that heavy, dramatic makeup is aging on me, so I keep things fresh and light with the focus being on rosy cheeks and dewy skin. I don't know how they do it, but this provides great coverage yet stays really sheer. I can't stand heavy foundation, and this one is light and applies beautifully. I mix a drop of this serum with my foundation for a little bit of a bronze glow (which I need thanks to that SPF 46). I'd use it even if it didn't have anti-pollution antioxidants, so it's a big added bonus that it does. This just-released color corrector has already become a staple in my makeup routine (because six hours of sleep). I apply it before my concealer, and my dark circles are basically gone. You've probably heard the rave reviews about this cult-favorite concealer. Well, they're all true, and I'll never stop buying it. Pricey? Yes. Worth it? Yep. This stuff is magic when it comes to hiding imperfections, and it blends so well. Plus, my last tube lasted a good two to three years, so there's that. I always struggle with finding a pressed setting powder that doesn't look chalky. I started using this one a few months ago, and it's nice and sheer and natural, just how I like it. I love cream blushes and find them to be more youthful and dewier (obviously) than their powder counterparts. Kosas really excels at them, and I love the pretty complementary highlighter it's paired with. I love light, shimmery eye color, and this one is perfection. It's nice and light but has just enough pigment. I always apply a bit at my lower lash line, too, to brighten things up. I've tried a lot of the other cult eyelash curlers, and everyone has their favorite, but this one is the best. You can quote me. Dramatic mascaras and all their clumpy-lash outcomes are not for me. Glossier Lash Slick is my ride-or-die, as it doesn't clump or smudge and makes lashes look impossibly long. I find black eyeliner to be aging, so brown it is for me. This one is nice and rich and applies easily (which is great for me since I'm terrible at applying eyeliner). If you like a nice fluffy brow that's just the tiniest bit polished, you must try this. (Take a look at the Sephora reviews if you want further proof.) It also comes in six shades, so finding one that will look natural on you is a cinch. I've been through multiple tubes of Dior Lip Glow, and I never get tired of it. It has the perfect hint of color and actually stays on even though it feels like a balm. The focus of my evening routine is on anti-aging and repairing. I have dry skin, so I stay away from anything too harsh, but I've found that my skin can handle more acids and exfoliants as I get older. That said, I've had to find alternatives to strong retinols, as they're much too drying for me. This is my go-to evening cleanser, as it foams up really nicely, and I feel that it takes the day off. And like my morning cleanser, it doesn't leave my skin with that dreaded tight feeling. Plus, you can get it at the drugstore or on Amazon. TG for Shani Darden and her gentle retinol products (including Retinol Reform, which I also love). It's the only form of retinol I've been able to use that doesn't make my skin red and flaky, and the results are really noticeable. My lines are undoubtedly softer since I started using it. Speaking of Shani Darden, this is the perfect lightweight moisturizer. I often apply it over the retinol (or other strong products) when my skin is feeling parched. A few nights a week, I use this Versed miracle worker, and I wake up with a nice glow whenever I do. It works just as well as (if not better than) its pricier counterparts. It gently removes dead skin cells while hydrating. Genius. I honestly don't know how or why this serum works, but the second I put it on, my skin is instantly brighter and "glowy." It's a little pricey to use every night, but goals. Plus, it smells AMAZING. Shaba Complex is really gentle—so much so that you can put it on your eyelids. Just reading the description of this convinced me, and so far, I'm happy with the results: "A satiny eye serum formulated with a powerhouse of ingredients to tackle the major signs of aging under and around the eyes such as fine lines, wrinkles, and sun damage for a rested, more youthful appearance." I think full brows can really be effective in achieving that youthful look, so I've been investing in Revitabrow for years. It works like no other. This is very hydrating, stays on, and isn't sticky, all of which are requirements for me in a nighttime lip balm. I also love the yummy coconut smell. Not the prettiest tube but definitely the best hand cream I've ever tried. I wash my hands a lot, and they're one of the first things to show age, so I'll use whatever works. And this works. Below are a few products that I don't use every night but that I always have on hand and highly recommend. This cream is rich, but in the winter and post-travel, it's what my skin craves. It really plumps the skin, and when I apply it before bed, my dry patches are gone by morning. Heads-up: Tatcha's Friends and Family Sale (20% off sitewide!) starts tomorrow, October 13, and goes through October 20. Sounds like a good time to stock up. This is one of the first skincare products I invested in years ago, and I still use it to this day. It's the perfect exfoliant, in my opinion. Uhhhh, hm. Well, thething is, when paying for a luxury brand, you’re really only paying for thename and all the bells/whistles that accompany it.

Price ≠ effectiveness.

I’ve found most designerskincare to be filled with fragrances and alcohols, which are not good for theskin in the short term or the long term. However, there are some brands that are good. Often, I compare luxuryskincare to luxury cars. Both a Toyota and a Tesla will deliver you to yourdestination, but the delivery and presentation of the Tesla is a bit fancier.Same goes for skincare. As I mentioned in my previous post about La Mer, bothNivea and La Mer do the same thing, but La Mer offers a more elegant presentation.

When we buyexpensive things, we expect them to perform at the price we paid for them. Weexpect miracles in $300 bottles. The thing about skincare is that it is highlysubjective. So ya wanna dabblein luxury skincare? Here is my advice: get samples. Hit up your local Sephoraor department store and see what appeals to you. Usually, the sales associatesare more than accommodating. That way you can try it out first. As far as whatluxury brands I have tried and seemed to work for me personally? SK-II, Kiehls,and Drunk Elephant. The last two aren’t really “luxury,” but they’re expensiveall the same. Lol. You can find their equivalent elsewhere, though.

If you’re reallyhellbent on shelling out some coin, I suggest going to a dermatologist andgetting a laser treatment or something. It offers the most permanent andsignificant results.

Tatcha obento giftset review

I don’t remember the actual names of these products.

The lip balm: it smells strongly of lemon dishsoap but you don’t notice it after it’s applied. I hate that I love it bc it’s so boujee. My lips stay soft for a long time and it makes applying lipsticks/liptints much smoother. Would I buy it again? I would have to see how much this one lasts me first. If it only lasts less than 3 months, Idk if it’s worth it

The mist: the other full sized product in this set altho tbh 40mL is not a lot at all. The mist is very fine and I couldn’t even tell if I sprayed my face or not so I kept spraying until I felt it. I don’t think it’s worth full price for something this size. You have better luck with other cheaper mists. It smells like ginger for some reason.

The mask: it says to apply sparingly onto the face but there wasn’t a lot of product. This was like 2 applications if you apply it sparingly. I’m going to have to try it again to see if I like it.

The cream: soft and hydrating but nothing special. I have plenty of lotions and nightcreams that are water infused with the same effects. Would not purchase a bigger size.

I would give this a 3/5 stars. I mean the products did work like they said but idk if it’s worth the full price value of it. I think it’s a good set to see if you like these products or want to venture into the world of boujee asian skincare.

Korean skincare advice or an updated skincare routine please?

tbh im not super comfortable making product recommendations bcuz products that work well for some ppl can be awful for others (eg. everyone loves paulas choice but most of their products make me break out!).

my general advice is: find a good cleanser and basic moisturizer that work for your skin type then you can build from there if you want (or not). also im korean so ofc i think exfoliating is also essential (don’t use a sugar scrub on your face please stick to gommage or chemical exfoliators). and wear sunscreen when its sunny out cuz melanoma/other skin cancers are a real thing for ppl regardless of skin tone. additional advice is under the cut

if you want to know more about korean skincare, a number of women are engaged in the “escape the corset” movement (just one aspect of koreas current feminist movement) which criticizes how being beautiful is a ridiculous amount of money and labor women are expected to do, so there are a number of women out there minimizing their skincare routine and dumping most of their makeup (i’ve also noticed that there have been more more “single step” or “2/3 in 1″ products out there lately like Laneige’s new cream skin line and various gudetama themed “lazy girl lines” lol but in the sake of not making this post too long i won’t be breaking that down. just interesting to note). I don’t think this is going to change korea’s reputation as a massive skincare consumer/producer anytime soon but it’s worth it to note that many women know that maintaining a giant skincare routine isn’t some “woohoo self care” thing, most women do it because they feel like theyre obligated to look pretty/have perfect skin, and a lot of women are actively protesting against this

on a 180 note, if you want to expand your routine w/ serums/active ingredients into your routine i’d try a cheap version (eg. inkey list/the ordinary) and see how you respond to it, then once you’re more familiar with how your skin reacts to stuff, you can branch out and try other products, or stick with the cheaper ones. skincare is RARELY pricy because it’s incorporating some expensive ingredient or difficult to produce technology, its largely just markups/brand names/advertising :/ you can avoid this w/ brands that are transparent about where they source their ingredients from and how they price accordingly (again, the ordinary is a more popular brand thats solid at this). you don’t need the entire shiseido/tatcha/la mer/whatever line (sometimes things that are more expensive DO work better, eg. skinceuticals is the top vit C brand out there, but you can pay over $100 for single products like that easily and again I think its worth it to consider how much money youre willing to invest into looking attractive and why!)

as for advice beyond that, there are entire loads of ppl out there who are far more versed in dermatology/skincare than I am. i recommend gothamista’s youtube channel, she has dry/mature skin but is really well versed in skincare as a whole and has lots of recommendations for various skin types and price ranges. Don’t trust paid influencers/other walking billboard type folks.

tldr dont feel like you need a 10 step routine to have perfect skin or like you even need to have perfect skin? but if you want to figure out what helps keep your skin protected/moisturized/clean (clean/protected/moisturized =/= acne free) there are lots of brands out there and ppl who’ve tried those brands and are well versed in dermatology who can give you better advice than i could
