stupid!james potter x heartbroken reader
A/N: This is a blurb I guess. I was just thinking of this, so yeah.
warning : none, all fluff and angst !
This day.
An ordinary day except for the fact that this was the day you were going to ask out the boy you had liked since you tried out for Quidditch.
James Fleamont Potter.
Cocky, handsome, mischievous, intolerable, funny-
James was a pile of things in a teenage boy's body. I mean, you almost admired him for always keeping up with himself. You figured if you were his body, you wouldn't be able to keep up with his actions.
That may be a weird way to state it, but it was true.
It's the same way your heart can't keep up with you. You loved passionately, it was like fire in your loins, and your gas was Quidditch, your friends, family, and James.
But James was your captain, your close friend, and more.
Admitting your feelings to him wouldn't affect that relationship at all. In fact, it might make your relationship better; you won't feel trapped in your own love.
So you were going to ask him now.
You walked outside his dorm, about to knock, when it opened. James looked disheveled, like he was almost in a rush.
"Oh, Y/N, did you need something?" He asked, "I'm about to practice some moves for the team, you know, get us back on track," He boasted.
You smiled, "I just wanted to talk about something."
"Can it wait?" He asked, "The boys are waiting on me, or they will be pissed at me, and I still can't find my kneecaps,"
"It's really quick," You rushed, still keeping your smile.
He looked a little in disagreement but he didn't want to be rude to you, "Go ahead," He smiled, waiting for you.
"I've been feeling like this for a while and I really wanted to tell you that I-"
"James," Lily called, "You forgot your kneecaps in my dorm, you jinx," She smiled, kissing him before looking at you, "Oh hey,, Y/N, how's it going?" She politely asked.
Your smile downturned, "Good, thanks,"
"Thank you so much, my love," James kissed Lily's cheek, "What would I do without you?" He asked, side-hugging Lily.
"Absolutely nothing," Lily bantered, "I have to go study, though, so I will see you later tonight; try not to hurt yourself," She warned, smiling before walking off.
"Sorry, Y/N, what were you saying?" He asked, looking at you.
"Oh," You cleared your throat, "I just wanted to say that you have been the best friend I could ask for and a great Quidditch captain." You said.
"Thank you Y/N but is everything okay?" He asked, "Is that all you had to say?"
No, you loved him, and you needed to say it. This was one of your only chances, and though it would be cruel, you had to tell him, or you might burst.
"Yeah," You responded, "It just clicked to me tonight that I should tell you that,"
"Oh well, that means a lot to me," He grinned, "You are one of my best players, and I would be in hell without you," He complimented.
You wished he meant it in another way.
"Thanks," You responded.
"Well, I have to go, but," He put his hand on your shoulder, "I'm so happy we can be friends without all the other stuff. It tends to be hard to be friends with girls; I'm just glad we feel the same way," He explained.
You felt disbelief, "Me too," You fake-smiled.
A ping in your heart overwhelmed you; you didn't know if you should cry or tell him off for not noticing how you felt or just lay on the ground and crumble.
At this moment, you buried all of your aches deep inside and tried to not show your heart breaking right in front of him.
"I'll see you later," He patted your shoulder before walking off.
Your heart shattered into minuscule pieces.
So it goes.
