lemme know if this is supported/debunked anywhere, but i always thought it interesting how significant it was meant to be that jim got hal a framed photo of him and their dad. yes ofc martin’s death makes it significant, but did hal not have any other photos of him? the line “something i wish i could’ve given you a long time ago” gives a weight to the gift like i’m missing smth, like smth could’ve changed if he had. and the fact that jim was so excited to give it to hal all those years ago that he stayed up until midnight makes it feel even more significant, secretive even
what i’m saying is that i headcanon their mom took down all the photos of their dad bc she hated having the reminder. that’s why it’s especially painful for her seeing hal follows in martin’s footsteps, he’s the spitting image of his father. without him there, even in spirit thru framed photos, it puts a lot of pressure onto hal. i can see this being a part of her coddling and overprotectiveness, how she wants to hold onto what she has left. and i can also see how her later disowning him can reflect putting the photos away, how it seems almost contradictory that she wants to protect him so she tells him to never come back. it’s that duality of grief; she loves him so much that she can’t bear to look
god hal rly grew up in a fucked up household didn’t he, no wonder he ran away

I do not want to derail conversations about Martin and Jessica but lowkey Geoff Johns's treatment of Jack annoys me too. Something about actually seeing Hal's relationship with his big brother (and *sighs* helping him advertise his election campaign while dressed as Green Lantern which may be immoral) and especially their dynamic in Spectre makes me like
Damn, Jack did not deserve this at all. AND he gets to be the only Jordan family member still dead?!

Just a Headcanon
Hear me out. So, Hal has his father's jacket as one of his most precious possessions, but I like to think that his wallet is in the same the category, not as if Hal likes it for the amount of money it holds (not much) but because it holds the photos of the people he loves.
He saw once the one that Bruce had and thought to himself, yeah, that's it, that's exactly what I need.
Each section is for a different group, it goes like this
The lanterns all of them making silly faces at the camera
The justice league, in a selfie pose
Carol and Tom, arms crossed with black lens
Wally and Roy, a photo taken in a sleepover, black market writings all over their faces
Barry and Iris, sitting on the couch , eating popcorn and embracing each other
Ollie and Dinah, with her carrying him in a bridal style
His nephew's crowding the photo as if fighting for who would take the most space in the frame
His brothers the photo had been cut from an old family album
His mom and dad, the photo of their wedding day
None of the knew that he had all this photos on his wallets until he lost it one day on the Watchtower and spent the day frantically searching for it

Green Lantern: Episode 3.
At sixteen or so years of age, we see Hal on the airfield grounds of Ferris Aircraft. He watches the jets taking off, eating chicken tenders from a bag that he got at a nearby restaurant. As he looks forlornly at the sky, an engine makes him turn, and he sees his mother's van pull up. Hiding the bag inside his father's jacket (which not only is he wearing, but the same jacket as what he has in the present day), he gets up as his mother rushes out to him, wild with fear and anger as she comes over to him. Grabbing his shoulders, she shakes him as she berates him for coming out to the airfield, blinking back tears as Hal, resigned, says, "I have to, Mom. This is all I have left of Dad."
Squeezing his shoulders, Jessica Jordan looks away before half dragging, half leading Hal away, murmuring, "Come on, you have to go to school. Your brother almost came here himself, he was so angry."
"It's not his business!" Hal shouts, twisting free of her hold and turning to face her, now furious. "He didn't give a crap about Dad before the crash, never mind the times he played lone wolf to everyone when we were kids! Why does he have to stick his nose in my life now that he's an almighty twenty year old?!"
"Because he's going to college and helping pay the bills at the local post office!" Jessica shoots back, a slight tremor marring her angry voice. "He's trying to help keep the roof over our heads, and you're too busy dreaming about flying to do anything other than watch and play with Jim!"
"It's not just about flying, Mom!" Hal retorts, drawing himself up to his full height with an affronted and pained expression. "It's all I have left of Dad, and I can't let that go! I can't let it go for Jim, for Jack, not even you. Don't tell me I can't do something to keep Dad's memory alive, or keep me from remembering him."
She stares at him, Hal's reflection showing in her eyes. She blinks, and Hal's reflection is briefly replaced with Martin's image, a striking similarity shown between them. Turning away, she coldly tells him, "Get in the van. And if I catch you out on this field again, your allowance is going to Jim."
With that she moves past him and into the driver's seat. Hal wordlessly enters the side of the vehicle behind her, spying a twelve year old Jim opposite him. Jim doesn't look at him for a moment, instead anxiously fiddling with a toy car in his hands, before glancing at Hal to see him leaning back in the seat as Jessica starts the van. Eyes darting from his mother to his brother, Jim subtly points at his own seatbelt before gesturing to Hal's; sighing, Hal pulls on his seatbelt, then leans an elbow on the door's arm rest, resting his chin on his fist. As the van moves back out onto the street, a hand tugging on his sleeve shakes Hal out of his reverie. Turning, he sees Jim hand over a small bit of wrapping, smiling slightly. Taking it, Hal starts to open it, then realizes it's a small model plane. Quickly wrapping it back up, Hal gives him a half grin that only Jim can see before stuffing it in an inside pocket. Feeling the bag from earlier, he reaches back and pulls out a remaining tender and surreptitiously hands it to him. Stifling a giggle, Jim takes it and stuffs it in his mouth when Jessica looks around for traffic.
Hal smiles, then looks up at the rear view mirror. We see a bit of his reflection before the scene morphs into the present day with Hal in his own car, the model plane hanging from his own car's rear view mirror. Hal, looking more somber than before, glances around and spies the correct lane leading to the curiosity shop belonging to Kari's grandmother. After a few moments, he finds the place, and as he pulls in, he finds a small group of people leaving. Curious, he watches them as he turns off the car, then shrugs and gets out, locking the vehicle behind himself. Walking up to the front, he enters the building and finds even the front of the store to be filled with various knick knacks. As he glances around, taking in the scene, an old woman's voice calls out, "I'll be there in a few! Kari darling, please go see who it is."
"On it, Granny!" Kari shouts back, and Hal turns to see Kari rush into the room, wearing more worn clothes on account of the numerous dusty items in the building.
Smiling at the sight of him, Kari beams, "Hal, you came early!"
Hal laughs as they hug, admitting as they part, "Well, I had a long day yesterday, so I didn't wanna risk being late."
"Busy? I thought you didn't work at Ferris on weekends," she replies in confusion before ushering him further inside. Rubbing the back of his neck, Hal answers, "I don't, but I have some very demanding volunteer work on the side. And on top of it all, I -"
He stops, grimacing at where he's going with this before Kari, looking at him with concern, softly says, "Hal, is something wrong?"
Swallowing, he looks her in the eye and confesses, "That volunteer work - which is, kinda like civic duty - pulls me away at odd hours, and it's gotten to the point that I could get evicted at the end of the week."
"Oh Hal, I'm so sorry," Kari replies, giving him a other hug that catches Hal off guard, though he quickly reciprocates it.
Leaving for the other room, Kari begins asking how much money he'd need, and though hesitant, Hal soon answers her questions and Kari suggests he help out at the shop for some extra cash. When Hal begins to oppose this idea, Kari brushes it off, admitting that her grandmother could use his help since her parents are visiting relatives out of state. Before they can really get into the planning of it, there's a crash from the next room, and they both charge inside. Coming in, they find Kari's grandmother, Kristen Limbo, swearing over a now overturned end table with scattered pieces of vintage Chinese plates. Amidst the clutter is a half ripped box, revealing an oval shaped mass of sparkling green-blue scales. Kari asks what happened, and waving a furious hand, Kristen answers irritably, "The box slipped out from my hands and landed on the furniture. I wouldn't mind so much, but those plates were antiques. And I'd had a buyer overseas looking to make bids on them!"
She curses some more until Kari, clearly embarrassed, clears her throat and says, "Granny, we have a visitor. His name is Hal Jordan, and I met him last week, if you remember?"
Hal notices the slight edge in her voice, and Kristen looks up and at them. Shifting her attention to Hal, her expression remains fierce from the accident, but an unmistakable gleam enters her eyes. "The test pilot who you had dinner with? And who I assume is no stranger to hard labor?" Kristen replies, crossing her arms.
"Yes, and he's in need of some side work," Kari puts in quickly, Hal barely having opened his mouth as his gaze turns between the women. "And I thought he could help us out today and earn some cash."
"If that's alright," Hal interjects, adding, "I don't want to overstep, or butt in where I don't belong."
"Bah, nonsense," Kristen replies, moving over to the crash site. Bending over, she rights the table and says, "I'll handle this mess. Hal can carry the box into the mystery wing. Kari, be a good dear and show Hal where it is."
"Yes, Granny, and thank you," Kari replies, helping Hal get a good grip on the box before leaving for the wing as Kristen calls out, "And be sure to put it on the heavy duty desk!"
They do as they're instructed, Hal and Kari talking as they head toward the room. Locating the desk, Hal leaves the box there before he and Kari return to Kristen. They both then spend the next hour or so cleaning up around the place, Hal and Kari playfully flirting and teasing each other as Kristen watches them, smiling approvingly at Hal every so often. However, across the street outside, some masked men spy on the shop, one reporting over the comm that they "have the egg." The lead man then nods and orders the rest to begin the infiltration.
Inside the curiosity shop, Hal, Kari, and Kristen are seated and eating a meal, talking about things ranging from Hal's work to humorous events that each person has lived through. Hal has noticeably relaxed, and Kristen is now checking with him for what hours he could/would be available for helping out at the curiosity shop. Just as they ballpark some free hours Hal has available, they all hear footsteps down the hall. Everyone realizes that they didn't hear the doorbell chime and that no one asked for Kristen, prompting Hal to head down the hall to find the intruder while Kari and Kristen go to the front. Sneaking down the hallway, Hal peeks around the bend and finds a ninja taking out scaled egg, though he surprises himself with its weight. Scanning the back of the room, Hal picks up a nearby antique fire poker and swiftly approaches the ninja and swings it at him. The guy narrowly dodges in time, and after a few minutes of fighting, Hal manages to knock him out. The egg falls to the floor with an audible THUMP, and Hal cringes before briefly checking over the egg.
Finding it unharmed, Hal picks it up when he hears shouting and the sounds of a fight back toward the entrance. Rushing back, he sees Kari dodging two ninjas, holding a knife and occasionally getting some slashes on them. Behind her is Kristen, going all out karate master on five ninjas, three of whom are already thrown out a window. Hiding the egg behind a couch, Hal jumps in to help Kari, and between the two of them the ninjas are defeated. Two more crashes sound, and whirling around they find that Kristen has thrown the last two ninjas onto the street. Once more cursing, Kristen tells them to throw out the last of the ninjas, then turns back to the recovering intruders and shouts, "You Ninth Circle lackeys are not welcome, and unless you want another thrashing you can crawl back into whatever hole you came out of!"
Pulling out a drawer that is revealed to hold a few throwing daggers, Kristen proceeds to frighten off the ninjas as Hal and Kari, sharing a concerned/amused glance, head back to drag out the remaining ninjas.
Once they've all finished and made sure that the shop is safe for now, they head back in. Hal retrieves the egg, asking about the Ninth Circle. Kristen, ushering them both into the backrooms, explains that they're an ancient ninja cult that trains assassins and thieves, though she's always been confused about their motives and such. Kari asks her why they were here, and Kristen muses that the egg must be a dragon egg, though she doesn't know if it's a normal dragon egg or related to the Zodiac Pact. As Kristen bustles about looking for a specific phone number, Hal, utterly confused, whispers to Kari, "Exactly what did your grandmother do for a living when she was younger?"
Kari, her own expression partially confused, leans over and admits, "From what she always told me, it seemed like a lifestyle that was a combination of Indiana Jones and Jackie Chan. But this is the first I've ever heard of the Ninth Circle, or anything Zodiac related."
"So she actually had adventures with dragons?" Hal questions, now interested and impressed. Smiling proudly, Kari says, "When this is over and we have the time, ask her about the Ryu that got loose in Kyoto."
Hal grins just as Kristen finds the number. Turning back to them, she explains that she's friends with a museum curator in North Carolina who has a collection of mystic artifacts hidden from the public. Explaining that he has a new assistant who also picks up the artifacts he needs to keep safe, she says she'll give him a call and see when he can arrive to pick it up. Hal and Kari wait in the room, chatting about each other's family members' shenanigans that have been passed down before Kristen returns and says that the assistant will be arriving by six tonight, and to meet him on the north side of town by the old factory.
Hal decides to deliver the egg, and although Kari is worried about it, he assures her he'll be fine, and that he knows someone who could help him out if things get tricky. After another hour has passed - during which time Kristen insists she pay him, and a bit extra for what he's now undertaking - Hal, feeling certain that it's safe for now, takes the egg and prepares to head out. Before that though, Kari asks him to be careful, and promising he'll try, they share their first quick kiss before Hal drives to the destination. As Kari watches him a moment, Kristen calls her back, reassuring her, "I've got a good feeling about that boy. Trust me, he can handle himself."
Smiling, Kari turns to go back in and replies, "You know Granny, you're right. He'll be fine."
Kristen watches her, her smile softening as they enter the building.
Meanwhile, Hal drives north to the abandoned factory, taking different routes to be careful. Pulling up just outside, he parks the car and gets the egg, walking over to an awning on the side so that he can keep an eye out for the assistant or trouble. After about another hour, a large winged shadow abruptly flies overhead. Tightening his grip on the egg, Hal peeks out, seeing a winged man circle before landing. Noticing the aquiline helmet and Thanagarian armor, Hal's jaw drops as he stands up, shading his eyes before calling out, "Hawkman?"
Hawkman's wings twitch slightly before he folds them behind his back. Stepping forward, he spots Hal as he steps out and says, "That's me. You the friend my boss said would hand over the egg?"
"Yeah," Hal answers, coming forward. Rearranging his hold on the egg, he admits, "I know the new Hawkman operates on the East Coast, but I didn't expect you to have anything to do with magic stuff."
"The wonders of a double - life..." Hawkman says, trailing off before tilting his head to regard Hal. "You...ain't the new Green Lantern of this planet, are you?"
Hal's eyes widen, then his shoulders sag slightly before he asks hesitantly, "What makes you say that?"
"My father was on good terms with Abin Sur, and unless it's a passin' similarity, you look like his successor. An' actually, come to think of it, we met once back on Rann just a month or two ago."
"Rann?" Hal repeats, eyes alighting in recognition. "Wait, were you the guy who threw that oversized space rat at the Lizardman behind me?"
"Yeah, that was me. Granted, I think he was goin' fer that Kilowog fella, but it all worked out in the end," Hawkman answers, starting to smile.
"Well, it sure is a small galaxy," Hal jokes, grinning as he starts to hand over the egg.
Before he can, though, an arrow misses him by inches. Ninjas drop down from the edge of the treeline, preparing to fight. Stepping in front of him, Hawkman pulls out his mace and tells Hal to get the egg someplace safe, and see if he can "find help." Figuring out what he means, Hal does as he suggests, and Hawkman starts swinging his mace and punching, getting a few ninjas and grinning widely the whole time. Getting inside the factory, Hal tells the ring to scan the area; when it comes up empty of people, he nevertheless hides the egg in a trash can before suiting up and flying out a window at the back. Flying high above, he swings down and takes out the archer, who had been giving Hawkman a hard time. Knocking down a few more with a ring powered dump-truck construct, Hal calls out, "You're lucky I was in the neighborhood. Looks like you could use a hand."
Hawkman laughs and says, "The more the merrier!"
With that, they punch and swing and clobber the ninjas, with one backing the other up when a ninja gets the drop on them. Eventually the ninjas retreat, and after they both check the building and find it empty, Hal retrieves the egg and hands it over to Hawkman. They agree that a team up was fun, and that if the other is ever in the other hero's city and needs a hand or wants to hang out, they're welcome to it. Extending his wings, Hawkman salutes him with a smile and takes to the air, egg secure under one arm. Hal returns to his normal garb and drives home, calling Kari and letting her know that despite an adventure that Hawkman and Green Lantern took part in, he's safe and so is the artifact.
As they talk a bit more, Hal drives up to his apartment and finds police cars outside. Grin falling, he interrupts, "Kari, I gotta call you back later. Something just came up. I'll talk to you soon."
He hangs up after a moment, then parks on the curb and runs inside. He gets held up by the cops on the way, but soon learns that his apartment was robbed. He manages to get inside, finding the place wrecked and, once he surveys it, certain loose money and other belongings missing. Checking to make sure his guns are still secure in the locker, Hal sighs deeply and pulls out his phone. Dialing a number, he looks around at the mess before saying tiredly, "Pie, I am so sorry to call you at this hour, but..."
Running a free hand through his hair, he asks, "Is that offer to crash at your place still open? I just got home, and the place has been robbed, and the cops are still combing through the apartment."
He steps over some debris to pick up some of his things, missing the fact that the calendar's page for the current month has been ripped off. In another room, we see the same calendar page held in Star Sapphire's hands, and she mutters, "Kari Limbo. Do you know anything more about her?"
"Just her address," a shadowed figure leaning up against a wall responds. "You pulled me into this job on short notice, so I haven't been able to do much research on her. From what I have gathered, she works with the carnivores at Coast City's zoo, and works part-time at her grandmother's shop."
We turn back to Star Sapphire, who regards him with a calculating look before glancing back at the calendar. The Zamarons whisper in her head that Hal appears to be losing interest in Carol, and that as such, he will not break as easily as they had hoped. Memories of arguments with Hal flash before her mind's eye, accompanied by Gil's consistent, but subtle, kindness towards her, as well as the moment he had left and how Carol realizes she does care for him. The lead Zamaron then shouts in her mind, "ENOUGH!"
The calendar page explodes in pink and violet color, and waving the dust away, Star Sapphire declares airily, "Well, that is a very good start you've made. I'll pay you half now, but I want you to gather as much information as you can on this Kari Limbo. Find out about her life, her family, but do not kill her. I want her alive, and you won't get the rest of your pay if she dies on your watch. Do I make myself clear, Deadline?"
Pushing off the wall, Deadline steps into the light and answers, "Perfectly, ma'am."
@edgar-allan-possum This version of Hawkman is inspired by the 2005 Batman series incarnation, who was given a Southern accent, and whom I am quite fond of.
This one took some time to figure out, primarily because I wanted to fit Hawkman into the story in an organic manner. It took some time to figure out the nature of the plot, but I hope this episode works as well as I hope it did.
Happy Independence Day!

And, somewhere in the deeps of his soul... Hal Jordan knows she’s right. He isn’t the man he was before. He’s something vastly different. Something that’s changing... every second of every minute of every day. And the fact is-- it scares him...

You ever wonder how much money Hal has back in the silver age?
Sure, Uncle Titus is the really rich one, but the Jordans still come off as more than upper middle class.
First, all three brothers went to college. Jack and his non-Titus uncle also went to law school. Okay, we're looking at professional class there and upper middle class seems logical. Except Jack's house has "grounds" that can be searched, Jim has no job and a sports car and is buying headlamp from an antique sports car so rare only two exist in the world. Of course, Jim could just be a young guy spending more than he should (especially if parents are dead and he came into inheritance money).

Danny and Ellie are forced to flee Amity Park. And find themselves in Coast City.
I started writing this with the intention of only writing a short prompt, but then I just kept going until I felt like I’d written enough.
Danny gets caught up in yet another fight with Skulker, only this time it wasn’t because Skulker had come for Danny. No. He’d come for Ellie. And she was already weak from fleeing the GIW who had shot at her the moment she arrived in Amity Park.
Whether Skulker is after Ellie for Vlad, or because he wants her pelt can be up to you.
Either way, he manages to beat Skulker and captures him in the thermos. Just as he lets out a long sigh of relief he hears the sound of an ecto-gun being fired and then his side is burning and he’s falling. He’s falling too fast and it hurts and he can’t stop-
Danny guys the ground hard. His head is spinning, his skin feels like it’s burning, and he can hear the stomping of feet as someone runs towards him.
He needs to get up. He needs to get away. Find Ellie and make sure she’s safe. He’s needs to MOVE- but he can’t. Black spots for his vision as he manages to stand up and his eyes meet the end of his mother’s gun.
Before anyone can speak, he’s falling again, handing face first in the dirt. And the familiar feeling of de-transforming washes over him.
The last thing he hears before loosing consciousness is the grief stricken sound of his parent’s voice as three voices shout in unison.
“OH MY GOD DANNY!”
“DANNY ARE YOU OKAY?!”
“NO, GET AWAY FROM HIM!”
When Danny wakes up again, he’s in his room, the curtains are drawn but he can see the sliver of sunlight pouring in through the gap underneath. He notes that his body aches, but not as much as usual after a fight like that. And there’s a warmth enveloping his hand. It’s soothing, and he almost considers going back to sleep when he notices that there’s a ghost in the room. And all too fast he’s sitting up and staring into the exhausted, red, puffy eyes of his mother looking back at him from where she’s sitting holding his hand in hers.
Just behind her he sees Ellie floating just above the ground talking quietly with his dad.
“Danny,” his mother’s voice draws his attention along with Jack and Ellie’s. “How are you feeling, sweetheart? Are you in any pain?”
He didn’t notice when she’d helped him to lay back down again. “Do you need anything? Ellie here was just telling us about how regular pain medication doesn’t work as well for the two of you. But I’m sure we could find something for you that might-”
“Mom,” Danny rasps. Man his throat was dry.
As if reading him mind Ellie appears by his mother’s side holding out a glass of water with a straw in it. Maddie helps Danny to sit up a little more so he can drink.
“Mom,” he tries again, sounding better this time, “I’m okay. I promise. It’s not that bad!” He starts to lie as the panic sets in. He de-transformed in front of them. He knows he did. And the fear shows on his face, it must, because before he can even begin trying to think up an excuse his mother is crying.
“Oh Danny, it’s okay. We know. And we’re not angry at you. We love you. So much.”
And Danny’s heart swells at hearing it. “You don’t hate me for being Phantom?” He asks quietly.
“No! We could never hate you Dann-o!” His dad’s cheery tone doesn’t disguise the sadness and guilt etched into his face. “We’re just…so sorry that we never noticed before. And that we…” he can’t finish his sentence but he doesn’t need to. Danny already knows what he’s apologise for.
“I’m okay. I promise. I heal fast!” Danny tied to reassure them.
It seems to help a little, though his parents still have a grim look in their eyes. As they make connections in just how Danny would know that about himself.
And Ellie, with perfect timing to cut the tension, announces happily, “Danny! Good news! Your parents said I could stay with you!”
Ellie had told his parents while Danny was unconscious about being his clone. She saw how they fretted over Danny, cleaning and dressing his injuries with the love and care she only imagined from a parent that truly loves you. And they had accepted her almost right away. Jack even crying as he proudly declared himself a father of three.
Jack soon excused himself, saying he’ll go see if Jazz needs any help with cooking lunch. Danny and his mother share a look, and with a final kiss to his head says she’ll go make sure nothing gets brought back to life. And she asks Ellie to please make sure Danny stays in bed and rests.
Danny and Ellie are left alone in his room, and it gives Danny the chance to really revel in everything. His parents accept him. They love him, both sides of him. And they accepted Ellie too! And said she can stay! She doesn’t have to be alone anymore.
Now, a lot can happen in the span of a few seconds, let alone minutes. In the time it took for Maddie to reach the kitchen, their front door was kicked down and a group of GIW agents had stormed in demanding they hand over the ectoplasmic scum they were harbouring.
Jack and Maddie drew their weapons and planted themselves directly in front of the GIW agents. The agents state that a ghost shield was put up around the house to prevent any ghosts from escaping, and by law any ghosts within the premises were ti be handed over for destruction immediately. Jazz runs upstairs to Danny’s room to warn them that the GIW were inside the house and that they needed to run. They need to get to the portal NOW.
With all the authority of an older sister Jazz tells Ellie to grab the go bag Danny had insisted on having prepared, and picks Danny up despite his protests that he could walk. Or well, fly. Ellie turns them all invisible and intangible and takes them down to the lab.
They can hear the sound of shouting, and something breaking and a gun being fired all coming from upstairs as Jazz opens the portal for Danny and Ellie.
Another shot rings out. And then another, and more shouting.
“Quickly you two need to go!”
Another shot.
“Aren’t you coming with us?” Danny, now Phantom, asks suddenly as he and Ellie are preparing to enter the Ghost Zone.
Two more shots.
“Someone needs to be here to deactivate the portal in case the guys in white make it down here. I’ll be fine. Mom and dad will be okay, they’re not here for us so you two need to go. Now!” There’s banging on the lab’s door and Jazz shoves both Danny and Ellie into the portal. The last thing Danny hears before the portal closes behind them is another shot being fired.
Danny is scared and angry as he and Ellie are forced to fly through the zone with no currently known way to get back to his family. He needs to make sure they’re okay. He needs to protect them.
But right now Danny is still hurt, and he needs to get himself and Ellie somewhere safe. They begin to slowly make their way through the zone, looking for somewhere to rest and avoiding any ghosts that might want to pick a fight.
Ellie isn’t sure how long she and Danny have been moving for. It feels like it could have been days, or hours, or even minutes. But Danny can’t fly as quickly right now. He’s trying to keep a brave face for Ellie’s sake but she can see the exhaustion beginning to take hold of him.
So Ellie makes the executive decision to touch down somewhere to rest. She tells Danny she’s tired. Danny knows she isn’t and it’s only because she’s worried and wants him to rest. So he goes along with it and they make their way to the next floating island they come across and thank the ancients it’s empty. The two halfas touch down and Danny slumps over as he sits against a nearby rock. Ellie pulls out some energy bars that were tucked away in the go bag and hands one over to Danny.
They do this a few times, stopping to rest, as they gradually make their way to the Far Frozen. Ellie had insisted on going there, Frostbite would know what to do, and he would be able to help Danny with his injuries that had started bleeding again in all the commotion of escaping, and then flying and hiding from ghosts known to attack Danny regularly.
But unfortunately luck is not on their side yet again as a natural portal rips open directly in front of them, and closes behind them after spitting them out in a city they didn’t recognise.
That’s how Danny and Ellie find themselves in Coast City, hiding out in an old warehouse by the docs while Danny heals and they figure out how they’re going to get back home.
That is, until now.
Danny stares up at his little sister and sighs with the resigned tone of an exasperated older sibling.
“Ellie,” he takes a breath, “what did you do?”
“I’m my defence,” Ellie glares up at Green Lantern, who has Ellie scruffed by the back of her hoodie, before looking back at Danny, “I simply do not vibe with the law.”

“when hal ran away… i moved home. i gave my life for our family just like mom… when has hal ever given this family anything?” -> “families don’t leave each other… not ever.”
oh so that’s how hal sees it, he thinks he left his family behind by running away and not that, yk, they forced him out. glad to know his estranged big brother’s words stuck with him forever
and the worst part is that this isn’t even his worst nightmare. this is just trial and error to DISCOVER his worst fear, and it doesn’t even land. hal has grown a lot since then, he’s just accepted this as the truth

I think both that jack cared for hal to the point he'd hang out with hal AND he hated hal for stressing their mom and for flying should exist at the same time
