CHARD HOCKEY TEAM CHALLENGED BY BRIDGWATER... 🏑🏑🏑🏑🏑 Chard B 3 v Bridgwater C 1 Bottom of the table Bridgwater gave Chard a real run for their money in this high tempo fixture. The visitors made all the running in the opening ten minutes and were justifiably rewarded with a goal from a penalty corner. Although keeper Tony Millett made a diving save from the initial shot, he and Chard's defenders were unable to keep out the follow up effort from short range. Rich Jones was captaining Chard for the day in the absence of Trevor Goss and, with his midfield guidance, the home side steadied the ship and picked up the pace of their game to match Bridgwater. It was a well timed tackle by veteran right back Kevin Mooney which was the catalyst for Chard's much needed equaliser. Having taken possession, he quickly got the ball up to Parris who in turn fed Jones. His run into the D set up a chance for Duncan Lewis whose shot was parried but not cleared by the keeper and Jones was on hand to tap in. Jones was provider and Lewis scorer of Chard's second shortly before half time with Ollie Bowie also involved in the build up but Chard again found themselves under the cosh in the first few minutes after the interval as Bridgwater looked to get back on equal terms. Chard's young forwards relieved the pressure with some neat counter attacking and Reuben Willis was unlucky not to stretch the lead, but it was the Jones Lewis combination again which gave Chard breathing space with the third goal. There was a hold up to play when a Bridgwater player sustained a head wound rushing out to an intended flick by Lewis from a penalty corner which resulted in the visitors being reduced to 10 players for the final few minutes. During those, Lewis missed a glorious chance for his hat trick, shooting just wide of the post with an open goal having being set up by Criddle. Thanks to umpires: Jim Sainsbury and Danny Grabham.
