I love how loneliness is a recurring theme throughout DBD, and how the show deals with it.

Pretty much every single character is dealing with it in one way or another, more or less. Sure, Charles and Edwin have each other and care about each other just so ridiculously much. But moving through the world with 99% of people not even being able to see you has to be isolating.

Edwin says multiple times that he’s not good with people.

Charles’s school ‘friends’ killed him. And while he’s good with people, a fair chunk of his arc is about how his happy persona is something of a defence mechanism. Yeah he’s smiley and approachable, but how much does that actually translate to him having many close friends?

Niko described herself as a shut-in and said in episode 4 that she’s not had many friends until recently. Which is a tragedy as she’s an absolute delight.

Crystal had friends pre-demonic possession, but considering how toxic those friendships were and how she treated people back then, it doesn’t seem conducive to deep or meaningful connections. Not to mention her family dynamics!

Jenny’s pretty much closed herself off from attempting romantic relationships, and seems to start to care about Crystal and Niko almost against her will.

Edwin even calls the Cat King out for being lonely!

And I really love that it’s not shown as necessarily a bad thing to be lonely? It’s not something to be judged or looked down upon. Sure, the sprites are judgey and mean to Niko about not having friends etc, but it’s clearly framed in a way that shows them being mean is the issue, rather than Niko not having many friends as the problem. I love that in the end, as much as everyone bickers, they so clearly all care about each other. I love that by the end of the season, everyone's just a little less lonely.

listen i know everyone loves charles and edwin as a couple but I think edwin probably deserves better than to be in a relationship with someone who is NOT in love with him - I totally get the ship, dont get me wrong, I dont ship them myself tho

I mean he's not the best choice for edwin, if he doesnt love him like that, i dont think charles was lying when he said he doesnt have those feelings for edwin 😭

I think it could be an interesting route, dont get me wrong! but the reason im so wary about it is that it did not seem to be setting up a romantic relationship for them, more about edwin realising his feelings and charles realising the depth of his friendship, soI hope they do not put that in later seasons if we get some! (fingers crossed) just because that was not what it was leading to and it would be very confusing (to me anyway).

plus, i LOVE the friendship between charles and edwin - charles would go to hell for edwin because he loves him deeply, as a friend.

also lowkey rooting for charles and crystal 😭

anyways, what are your thoughts? im trying to understand, i really like this show so i want to know what people think, if anyone agrees (and from the ppl who disagree with me too)🤙

edit: just want to add bc ive seen the beginning of ppl hating other ships 😭 "edwin had no feelings towards the cat king" is not necessarily crazy on its own, but considering he was constantly remembering their almost-kiss throughout the whole season, its a bit crazy when youre also saying "charles clearly has feelings for edwin" - only bc i feel like its a little strange to say that since charles had no explicit or implicit romantic interest in edwin, and then ignoring explicit interest that edwin had for someone else - know what i mean..? again, no judgement, just a little confused 😭

Soooo @theoscout my friend! I recently finished Millie's character analysis. Here's what I have for her.

- Goth/Daydreams of death/Loves Edgar Allan Poe/Wore the full Goth getup/Vegetarian/Loves Poems/Has a cat named after Annabel Lee/Likes Emo music (Curt Carrion - never got around to checking if this was a reference to something)

Now these are just observations about her, her external persona if you will. Then we go a bit deeper.

- Lives with her Grandad/Parents in Saudi Arabia/Parents have a bad reputation which is reflected on her/"Dracula's Daughter"/She's 14 years old

Ok so here we see how stuff is affecting her. It's clear there's family issues, with her loving with her Grandad, even if it was her choice. She mentions having cried over deciding, which makes sense since she's literally too young to be making large decisions like that. Her parents reputation and her reputation as a goth definitely affects her too.

- Her only friend Hannah left her/Instantly falls for someone who looks at her differently than other people (Dylan)

Clearly she is having a lot of social issues as well, which probably isn't helped by her goth exterior. Even though the book is set in more modern times with there being smart phones, being goth is still a bit looked down upon. Now, when Dylan gets mad at Millie, he makes the comment that she's had other male friends in the past and she says she has, even though she hasn't. Now I think she was just trying to make herself seem less lonely, but in reality, she only ever refers to Hannah as a past friend, and Dylan as a friend/crush and says there are no other friends.

- Honorable side note that on page 159 of the physical book I own, her grandad makes a comment about her meeting a guy, or girl, and insinuates she has a crush on them.

First of all he's supportive and that's cute. And secondly, it's possible she's bi, or questioning, and that's pretty slay for her.

- Not suicidal, just sad/Thinking about death "Changed her"/Unstable/Hormonal/Judgmental/Never happy as it's a "waste of time"

She was a teenager. And a young one at that. She acts way more like a 16-17 year old with how resigned she is, and I honestly thought she was that old. She is 14! She shouldn't be saying things like it's not worth it to be happy. Like obviously there's family issues going on and social issues too, but I do feel bad for her. To a point. She was extensively judgey on girls who weren't like her, and calls them basic. Now, that's a little hypocritical and I do agree with Dylan that she is in no place to talk about people's appearances, but I do also have to point out that those "basic girls" were the ones calling her names and basically shunning her so her anger is slightly justified. I think any teen or young adult would see where she's coming from.

Even as she is being threatened with death, she is being called names. Which is shitty. I hate Ft. Freddy.

I am trying to keep my AU stuff and my headcanons out of this, so any thoughts I said were based on the facts from the book. Please ask for more characters, and they don't have to be the main ones. I am making notes on side characters that are mentioned more than once as well as location and odd lore points. The villains are also having pages of information written for them.

Why I Chose Which Talent

•Teruko - She canonically enjoys cute, girly things, and since she can't afford them, she'd design her own!

•Xander - His likes state that he enjoys volunteering. So, what better talent then having him as a charity worker who volunteers for a good cause?

•Charles - Shown to canonically enjoy succulents, and is even shown making cucumbers into flower shapes. A florist would work well for him.

•Ace - His interests aren't shown too much, so I decided that his talent would be based off how he's seemingly very competitve in CH1. It works with him still racing in some form.

•Arei - Likes gossiping, and blogs are the place where gossip is literally born!

•Rose - She's always enjoyed painting, and hey, sometimes some people need a bit of soft colors in their life to make things easier!

•Hu - While it may be for another reason, she's their to lend aid to those around her, almost like a therapist!

•Eden - Canonically likes sweet foods, and is shown to love baking in CH1!

•Levi - His likes state that he enjoys lollipops, and the Dev has said he likes food with tons of sugar! Fitting of him to become a candy maker!

•Arturo - His love for beauty combined with a judgey attitude + how the Dev said he likes expensive clothes? Right on the money for him.

•Min - Canonically enjoys collecting bugs as stated in bonus episode 1, and even draws a centipede one of the cookies in CH1!

•David - He was also difficult due to the lack of interests said in the story, so I figured actor would fit for him since I couldn't fully decide.

•Veronika - Her likes say that she loves skateboarding, and it fits that she'd still have a talent full of excitement!

•J - A tech related talent & one that sounds cool? Perfect for J.

•Whit - His love for puns & cracking jokes is befitting of a comedian!

•Nico - No matter the universe, they'd still love cats & would always take care of them!

cathy: im gonna tell yall RIGHT now, she goes by “cat”, i cannot explain it to u but she just DOES to me, nobody rlly knows her as cathy shes just,,,cat, shes that kind of girl that always has a camera in her hand just taking pics of whatever and she posts it on flickr, she loves photography, shes always wearing those milkmaid tops or big sweaters with bell bottom jeans, and her hair is short, think of those teen movies w that “down to earth pretty chill w her walkman” girl and thats her, she was prolly watching those mlp tribute vids on her family computer, she thinks its cute, she loves collecting pins n stuff, she loves friends (the show)

m&m: gonna b so honest w u, m&m just seems so timeless to me i dont rlly have much to say for him bc i think he’d act the exact same way no matter the time period, BUT some things i can add is that he really likes the teenage mutant ninja turtles and loves comic books so theres that, hes a bit of a collector of just about anything and so cathy takes pics of his room a lot and post it on flickr so theres that, he’d be in the family computer quite a bit and since in the early 2000s barely any adult knew how to use the computer he was just on there goin crazy in chatrooms on some odd ass forum talking about figurines or somethin, god bless his soul, always has cathy’s walkman and gameboy she never gets to use them but its ok, she lives her bro, he loves pokemon and has a card collection in his binder

You open your eyes, staring at the occupied stool in front of you. You push yourself off the ground, the blanket falling past your arm and bunching around your waist. Your eyes stare at the gray blanket, playing with the charcoal stains, finding it satisfying when you wash your hands and watching as the dirt slips down into the drain. 

“You’re up.” 

Your ears twitch, tail flicking side to side. “Xavier?” 

“Do you know anyone else with an art shed?” 

You don’t like his teasing tone, especially after a much-needed nap. You shrug, “maybe, I do.” 

“Really? Like whom?” He sets his pencil down on the desk beside what you can only assume to be his sketchbook. 

“Maybe one of the vampires or werewolves have a shed, you know for- for privacy.” You run your paw hand through your hair. 

He studies you, always fascinated with- well, anything you do. He finds himself wondering if your hair is as soft as it looks and if he was ever given the opportunity to run his hands through it, would you purr? He pushes himself off the stool and steps closer to you, holding his hand out in front of you. 

You glance up at him, tails flicking once his scent hits you. 

The change in your eyes makes him tilt his head, wondering what’s going on inside that head of yours. 

You’re weary to take his hand, but you do so anyway, he’s done nothing wrong for you to be scared of him. But you also don’t like touching people because they’re mean; the memories you have when you were in a normie school haunt you to this day. 

He pulls up, keeping his balance steady when you crash into him. Xavier freezes unsure of what to do, he’s never had a pet other than the fish he had when he was a kid since it wouldn’t run around the house and mess anything up when his dad was working. He's used to his creations than the actual living and breathing animals. He doesn’t know why this thought came to mind until he notices the shift in your posture and removes his gaze from your twitching ears. 

You stare into his eyes, leaning in closer as slowly as you could without invading too much of his personal space. 

“What- what are you doing?” No one’s been this close to him since Bianca but it’s oddly more comforting when you do it. 

You blink, eyes dilated. “You smell familiar, it reminds me of a happier time. It's nice.” 

No one’s ever said something like that to him before and without any emotion on your face, even more interesting. “Oh- uh- thanks. I guess.” 

“It’s a compliment,” you assure him. 

He nods, arms falling at his side when you step back with your hands behind your back. 

What he doesn’t see or realize is that your tail was curling around his hip, you can’t let him know you... accept his presence, he’s not nearly as annoying as the other students. 

“What- what were you doing here?” 

“I went on a walk. I got tired of listening to everyone talk about me, the new kid who might have clawed their classmates for no reason or whatever rumor they’ve been spreading around.” 

“And you thought the floor was a good idea?” 

You chuckle, looking back at your makeshift bed. “It was comfortable, even more so with the blanket. I thank you for looking out for my safety and well-being.” 

The corner of his lip’s twitches. “It was nothing.” 

“It took a lot of courage for you to be able to do that.” 

“What makes you say that?” 

“No one besides Rainbow has been nice enough to make an effort.” 

“Rainbow?” 

You nod, glancing around the room, venturing over towards his desk, flipping through the sketchbook he was working on during your nap. You tail flicks happily at the sight of an almost finished sketch of you napping. “The wolf girl who is roommate to the girl who thought you were the monster.” 

“Oh.” 

“The one who you would stare at because she supposedly saved you from burning in a casket during a game of hide and seek.” 

“Yeah.” 

“She has little to no-” 

“I- I get it. I know who you’re talking about now. I just- I didn’t realize you were so close with her, either of them.” 

“I’m not but they make an effort and I... like that.” 

A light bulb goes off in his head. “Do you- would you want to stay while I work on some things?” 

You haven’t stopped staring at the sketch since you started talking. “As long as you finish this before we have to go back to the school.” 

He steps closer, wondering what you’re referring to. His body heat sends a pleasurable shiver down your spine, tail smacking his top of his hand sending you into a full body and brain shut down. Xavier glances down, smiling at the way your tail moves and how rigid you’ve become. “Why do you want me to finish it?” 

“I- I find myself to be pleasing to look at.” 

“Is that all?” 

You quickly nod before running around him. 

He turns expecting... something entirely different than what he sees now. 

You hop up on his desk and lay down. 

“How did you- how long have you been able to do this?” 

“A while.” 

His eyes widen, you’re a talking cat, A TALKING CAT! “Does this happen a lot?” He settles onto the stool, pulling the sketchbook closer. 

“Usually, my emotions have some kind of factor.” 

He nods, eyes wandering off his sketchbook but not over at you. “Is that why you pretend to not feel anything?” 

You meow at him, smacking his hand with your small paw. 

“Okay, okay,” he raises his arms. “No more questions.” 

You watch as he takes his times completing the drawing, eyes closing slightly until a crack of thunder startles you awake. You jump up and rush into his arms, shaking and shivering from the brisk cold air that seeps under the cracks of the door. You burrow your head into his chest, stealing any kind of warmth he has. 

He stares down at you before hesitantly raising his hand, slowly petting your head. You lower your ears, enjoying the way his hands softly glide through your fur, calming you. He keeps one hand on you while he continues. 

Eventually everything outside calms down and it feels like you’re squirming in his lap? 

Xavier looks down and finds a much bigger you, more human like that is. He doesn’t remove his gaze from you. 

You lazily climb off his lap, settling beside him not quite ready to abandon his body heat. Your head rests against his thigh, ears no longer twitching as you look up at him. “If you find yourself uncomfortable, I can remove my head from your thigh.” 

He shakes his head, “nope.” 

A relaxed smile dances across your lips. 

He managed to finish the sketch before it got too late. His hands gently scratching your head not wanting to startle you awake. 

You owlishly blink, straining your neck a bit to look at him. “Hm?” 

“I finished and it’s late. We should start heading back to Nevermore.” 

You shake your head, stretching your arms above your head. “I want to see it first.” 

“It- it’s not done. I lied. I need to-” He scratches the back of his head, avoiding your gaze. 

You trace along the lines with your fingertips while being careful about your nails. ��Interesting.” 

“Yeah?” 

“It’s nice to look, nothing compared to the others you have hidden away.” 

He turns his head, leaning in closer wondering if he heard you correctly. “You saw them?” 

You nod, “they were good, I like them.” 

“Oh, okay. Would you-” 

“I’d wonder what it would be like to actually know you’re drawing me, with my acknowledgement.” 

“We could plan a time.” 

“Yeah?” You turn to look at him with downplayed excited expression. 

“I think it could be fun... maybe we could even get something to eat afterwards?” 

“I don’t like fish.” 

He blinks once, “oh, I wasn’t- I didn’t even think of that.” 

“Good.” 

“Who tried to-” 

“Rainbow. She was trying to be nice, but it backfired. Just because I have few similarities to a cat does not mean I will live by them.” 

“Okay, no fish. Got it.” 

You walk behind him, putting on your clothes over your special body suit, no matter what form you take it stays on you which comes in handy when your emotions get crazy. You pout, you didn’t bring a jacket. 

He walks behind you and sets his extra jacket (that he brought for some reason, and he doesn’t regret it now) on your shoulders.

She even “walks out” of those arguments and slumps to the floor with her milk bottle, giving her parents judgey looks and mean side eyes. I love her, she’s so sassy XD)

Hellooooo! Mostly relaxing. But I ate too much, eirghhhhh. Now my tummy is ouchie.

Assuming they're on my speed dial because we at least like each other...Hanami. I don't think they'd say anything over the phone, but I think the love that I give me houseplants would at least endear them to me a little bit.

The handsy drunk. Drunk!Nanami is in fact based on me, not Mr.Haitch, who is a gentleman. Mostly.

I tried to frogleap a bollard in a pencil skirt when I was at school. I went at it at great speed, and flipped over at great speed. I fucked up my shoulder, but it's earned me a nickname which follows me even now.

Falling Flower is also my favourite! Twinnies.

Our eldest pulls his trousers/shorts all the way up to his nipples, and walks around bow-legged with a gurning face. Our middle one pretends to be a cat, to great accuracy. Our baby plays 'dentist' and tries to inspect our teeth, with two whole chonky baby hands in our mouths.

i love the concept of leon getting banished to cringefail MLS and desperately wanting to go back home 😭😭😭 I don’t know if you’ve ever seen people absolutely dunking on leon’s skating skills but maybe he did start out with hockey but got so mad about his lack of grace on skates that he’s just like fuck the stanley cup I will score goals. on my FEET! and then he ends up watching matthew in the playoffs

anon, i'm thrilled to hear this, because i also love the concept. i have no idea what kind of situation would have to occur for a german player who is theoretically good enough to play in the bundesliga to land himself on an mls team for a season but i have full faith that with some magical fanfiction handwaving a quasi-reasonable reason can be invented.

according to generous purveyor of german knowledge @irrelevanttous, when leon tried soccer (football, yes, i know) because all of his friends were playing it, he wound up quitting because he was mad the coach wouldn't let him take free kicks, which is such a funny and petty reason that coming up with an equally funny and petty reason for him to have quit hockey instead would be great fun. it's giving "NO DAD, I WANT TO LIVE MY DREAMS NOT YOURS" vibes, except for how i feel like peter would be like "that's great son let's buy you some new cleats."

anyway, the bright side of landing in south florida for this north american soccer adventure is that inter miami has easily the best logo in the league. which would be no comfort to leon the footballer who does not really want to be there, but it's fun for me personally. he'd look great in the black and pink. this is my soapbox for more pink in men's sports, you cowards.

so, for reasons, leon the footballer schleps across the atlantic. mls season starts in late february and i assume they have training and stuff before then so let's have him arriving in mid-january. he is so grumpy, and the fact that the weather is so nice makes him extra grumpy, because he is determined not to like it here. he will do what needs to be done to get his career back on track but this is TEMPORARY, okay?

except then maybe before the season kicks off, a bunch of the guys get a box at a panthers game as a little team bonding excursion. they don't really know much about hockey, they just think it would be fun. they definitely don't know how much leon knows about hockey — i don't think anyone in the miami soccer community knows what a peter draisaitl is; people in the north american ice hockey community barely know what a peter draisaitl is — and leon's like, he enjoys hockey as a spectator now, he'll play a little pickup with friends sometimes, but once his teammates figure out that he knows literally anything, they are clustered around him while they all watch this game, asking questions and laughing at his judgey little comments, and unfortunately for leon he winds up having fun.

after the game — panthers win, everyone's in a great mood — someone from the cats' pr team or whatever is like, hey, south florida sports supporting south florida sports, do you guys want to come meet some of our guys? yeah sure why not. and obviously amongst the guys doing this little meet and greet is one-man hospitality crew matthew tkachuk, whom leon definitely noticed on the ice, and is definitely noticing now, because uh oh, charming handsome man alert. matthew is shaking hands with every inter miami guy and asking their names in a way that seems genuine, but he's also oozing this easy confidence that really makes leon want to fuck with him a little. matthew gets to leon, shakes his hand as they exchange introductions; matthew says something like "you know, i don't know much about soccer but i'll have to get out to a game this season," and leon says, "yeah, well, i know a lot about hockey and whoever taught you to skate, i think they owe you your money back."

matthew stares at him, and leon has this moment of, ah fuck i was too mean again, why are americans SO sensitive, but then matthew laughs and says, "that would be my mom, and don't worry, i will definitely let her know." he's starting to breeze on by to the next soccer guy, but leon has this weird feeling of really wanting to continue the conversation — he blurts, "tell her don't worry about it, my father taught me and i was never any good at it, either."

this makes matthew stop and catch leon's eye again, and leon can see the shift in his expression from politely friendly to genuinely personally interested. it's subtle — he's not sure he's supposed to be able to see it — but matthew's smile goes a little crooked and there's this spark in his eye and oh, what a nice little win for leon. time is limited, though, so matthew must move on and finish meeting every single soccer guy, except before they all get shuffled out matthew circles back around to oh so smoothly be like, hey lemme give you my number so if you guys want to come to another game i can hook you up.

and thus it begins… an intense flirtation that turns into fucking that turns into feelings…. two elite atheletes desperate to prove themselves in their separate sports for different reasons……… one of them desperate to make a home in south florida and the other one deserate to get out…………… i just think it would be neat :)
