Yes I'm 26 years old, yes my friends r coming over tomorrow for a sleep over as part of a goodbye weekend because I'm moving across the country very soon & yes I'm dealing with all the emotions by thinking abt omegaverse & of course it means I'm thinking abt stranger things as well

Thinking abt a modern AU for omegaverse specifically one where alpha Eddie owns the LOTR movies on DVD & Blu-ray DVD, he hosts a semi-annual LOTR movie marathon tht only gets rescheduled never canceled bc one time a marathon coincided with Jeff's rut & when he tried to insist they watch without him CC all agreed to reschedule bc it just isn't the same without them all there

so there's born a sacred tradition of the CC boys watching the extended cut LOTR movies on a yearly basis, this is their Superbowl essentially

Well then Dustin, Mike, Lucas, & Will join their circle as high school freshman & they prove themselves in Hellfire so they're invited to the marathon except they all know it won't b very comfortable at the trailer because of limited space

Cue Dustin, Lucas, & Will getting omega Steve Harrington their babysitter extraordinaire to agree to host the LOTR movie marathon bc the 4 of them recently helped Steve read the LOTR books because he enjoyed The Hobbit a lot & he's never seen the movies because he knew they'd require book knowledge he didn't have

Well, the day the marathon happens to fall on is also coincidentally a few days before Steve's heat & I'm a big proponent of the idea tht the omegaverse body prepares for a heat in the way tht uterus having bodies prepare for a period with some key differences

Let's start w the similarities: flu like experience of minor aches, sometimes there's nausea abt certain foods (I for example for years from the age i first got my period to the age of 23 couldnt even look at an egg in its shell when I was nearing or on my period bc they made me nauseous) sometimes there's cravings to satisfy, mood swings more noticeably happen, a gradual increase in libido, & I don't think it'd b unusual for Steve to struggle w sleep in the days leading up to his heat

Differences: the libido increase doesn't fade once the heat begins obviously it only increases as the heat approaches, cramps r concentrated to the lower abdomen & pelvic regions, the body builds up noticeable fat stores (this is different from the bloating uterus owners experience in tht it isn't water weight & yes I'm inspired by tht fic u wrote where Steve gets self conscious before his heat bc he gains weight everytime) & the body temperature also gradually increases as the heat approaches (rapidly getting hotter in a number of hours before the first wave of biologically demanded horniness hits) so tht it isn't unusual to see an omega in the days before their heat wearing more breathable & comfy clothes because also an omegas sensory input changes to where their skin is very sensitive to certain fabrics (Steve for example invests in a wardrobe tht is majority cotton with a favorite silk night dress he wears to bed as his heat approaches)

ANYWAY I DIGRESS

So the CC boys can't believe they're having their annual nerdy marathon in rich kid neighborhood Loch Nora with the quintessential rich kid of Hawkins who was also the swim team captain & cheer captain

who turns out to b an absolute sweetie who's spent multiple days preparing for their marathon with a full menu of Middle Earth inspired dishes tht he's themed & scheduled to follow the Hobbit mealtimes, something Eddie has always wanted to do but didn't have the skills or resources for

So the day arrives & CC arrive before Dustin, Mike, Lucas, & Will to find Steve making the final preparations for the day of intensely timed cooking he has ahead of him & they're all good boys raised properly by their guardians so they immediately jump into helping Steve cook throughout the day while Mike & Dustin goof off & complain because while they're good boys they're also raised by parents tht do pretty much everything for them so they don't rlly understand the amount of work tht goes into a day full of eating

Lucas & Will understand tho so they help out where they can because they were taught a few cooking skills by their parents

Lucas was taught by his dad & mom because they emphasized the way to the heart is thru the stomach & so he is 100% doing it because as an alpha he likes the feeling he gets when he sees someone enjoy his food especially when tht person is one of his girlfriends Max or Jane (I'm a big proponent of Elumax where Lucas is the straight ally boyfriend they bring to pride to piss off ppl who spend too much time online) because neither had a very normal relationship w food when he met them, Max was stubborn abt needing to eat 3 square meals a day & Jane had been barely fed & was denied food as a form of punishment before she was taken in by her foster-turned-adopted dad Chief Jim Hopper (who isn't much of a cook evidenced by the fact Steve came over to cook for them twice a week & once lucas started dating Jane & Max he came over every saturday to cook for them bringing Max along so Jim could spend time getting know both of the alphas dating his omega daughter)

Will was taught his most used cooking skills by his dad ironically & because of this he has a complicated relationship w cooking because it was the one activity where his usually impatient & honestly kinda abusive father would b patient & understanding & encouraging to him but tht would go down the drain whenever he'd act a bit too much "like an omega" for a beta boy (in my heart of hearts will grows up with disphoria because he sees himself as an omega in the omegaverse but was born into a beta boys body)

The day goes off without a hitch & everyone has a lot of fun & they all settle into the living room to sleep once the final credit of the final movie has scrolled to the top of the screen & Steve goes to bed in his nest after sleepily scenting the pups & saying goodnight to the CC boys

Everyone sleeps very well & Jeff finds himself the first to wake up the next morning & initially he has no idea why he's awake because usually he'll sleep as long as Gareth is prone to after one of their movie marathons then he smells it: something sweet & tantalizing to his nose

He thinks it's coming from the kitchen only to bypass it entirely to stand at the bottom of the stairs, he puts 2 & 2 together & wakes everyone up to get them out of there & calls alpha robin (me writing a slick sunday ask w alpha robin? More likely then u think) to come help

Because somehow, someway, the CC boys triggered Steve's heat to arrive days early

Dead Boy Detectives Headcanon High School AU

Just some of my current thoughts about the high school au

Edwin is new to the school 

In his former school Edwin’s “friends” weren’t very nice to him. His parents had to move for work so he had to go to a new school. Edwin hoped this school would be a little better than the last one.

Edwin has usually felt on the outside of everything. People regarded him as weird/different for his mannerisms and what he would fixate on

The moment he sees Charles he has a crush on him 

Charles immediately accepts Edwin for what he is

Charles can sense when Edwin is getting overwhelmed. He gently squeezes Edwin’s hands without people noticing or makes an excuse for him and Edwin can leave and allow Edwin to get some quiet space

Edwin is a great artist 

Charles discovers the pictures Edwin has drawn of him

Edwin is embarrassed and thinks Charles will stop being his friends 

Charles loves the pictures so much and asks Edwin if he can have one

Charles puts it up in his locker 

Charles plays acoustic guitar

One night a group of them goes to the beach to hang out. Charles plays a song he wrote specifically for Edwin. Edwin feels his cheeks warming up but is very happy

Charles is always doing little silly romantic things 

Edwin is always very proper, never showing too much physical affection for Charles while in school. However when they are alone like practicing together for band Edwin will give Charles a hug or squeeze his hand gently. This always melts Charles’ heart. 

Charles wants to go to the movies with Edwin, but he knows Edwin gets overwhelmed by crowds and the movies would be too loud for him. Instead he invites Edwin over to his house and they watch a movie together in his bedroom while eating the slightly burnt popcorn Charles has made.

Edwin does something special for Charles. He gets them tickets to a concert. He knows he will be overwhelmed by it but Charles will absolutely be ecstatic. They go to the concert and Charles ensures that Edwin has ear plugs if he needs them. He reassures Edwin that if it gets too much they will immediately leave. 

During Christmas Charles buys Edwin art supplies and a weighted blanket

Edwin buys Charles the box set of Lord of the rings. While Charles appears pretty cool and popular he secretly is a huge LOTR fan. Edwin finds it adorable. While he finds the movies boring, Edwin loves cuddling up with Charles while he tries to explain the characters. Edwin even tries to lead him on, just wanting to hear the passion in his voice.

Ash gets a letter from his lieutenant, Alex, where his subordinate confesses to having feelings for Eiji.

5. Heartache to Heartache [Banana Fish]

In Vietnam, Max Lobo discovers that his best friend Griffin is in love with him. When Griff asks Max to consider it, he does.

hey there! i absolutely adore your blog, moreso because i ventured into it for the absolutely based darcy & elizabeth takes, but learned that you were somehow also ??? a faramir lover??? i'm sorry this is how people in soulmate aus must feel because holyyyy shit. you don't know me but i feel like your ramblings were custom made for me (in as non-creepy a way as possible).

you've somehow rekindled my love for lotr, which was a major part of my 8 yr old life. i only read lotr and the hobbit (the hobbit reading experience was also tainted because foolish 8 yr me read it off the high of finishing lotr, and went "wait it's about a dragon? that's it? ewww). but i am making time out of my schedule to reread and also finally read the silmarillion! so excited.

faramir was my first fandom blorbo and probably the one i still hold the most unrestrained, uncomplicated adoration for. i remember being an enthusiastic aragorn supporter until the end of return of the king when i realized faramir wasn't going to be ruling steward. then, i turned into movie boromir and just started muttering "gondor has no king. gondor needs no king." over and over. little me read a few lines about faramir and tossed aragorn out the window: "yes, i know you are a main character i've followed for a long time. i know you want this and basically everyone important & good in the novel supports you. but idc faramir would be a great ruler and who are you to show up out of nowhere and-"

probably the only person who left the happy ending of return of the king feeling so grumpy. i was the bitter guest wearing white at aragorn's wedding coronation.

anyways, all this to say that you are amazing, and elementary school me is feeling so much catharsis reading textually supported faramir appreciation.

🦗Do you write in sequence or jump around?

I used to be Very Strict about only writing in order, but I started letting myself jump around ~two years ago and WHAT A GAME CHANGER, IT HAS SAVED MY WRITING LIFE!!!!!

I get so much more written by jumping around, because when inspiration hits for a scene I can actually take advantage. it makes my writing so much better when I have not just an outline for What's To Come but specific scenes written that I can write towards and mirror very intentionally with word choice, lines of dialogue etc. jumping around when writing multichap fic has made my vision for the whole thing clearer, my choices more deliberate, and—most importantly—it's made it more fun. because I actually get to write the fun parts that inspire me!! instead of torturing myself by dangling the good bits as a carrot of something I might theoretically one day get to write!

(general you, the writer reading this, try it. give yourself permission. if it's not for you, you've still learned something about your process. but if you've never tried and think "oh I could never write that way," I would have said that once too. but tbh if I'd let myself do this earlier, it would have made everything SO much better and I would have gotten so much more done. just experiment so you Know if it's really for you or not)

🎵Do you make playlists for your fics?

yes but they're waaaaay less Curated than if I were making a fanmix. my writing playlists are not "here's a highly selective 12-song playlist with lyrics and music that fit and that come together to tell a story musically" as with fanxmies. they are "I need a 13-hour playlist that's Vibes Only that I can put on shuffle and have the right ambiance for whatever I'm working on."

I've got specific ones for all my different Boardwalk AUs, then one for generic grishaverse writing purposes, and I think "sexy" speaks for itself

50s au: honestly not that long, I don't have that much 50s music

Focus au: ~7 hours. the great gatsby (2013) soundtrack is actually perfect vibes. plus a lotta amy winehouse, lana, etc. anything that feels humid and sultry

Grishaverse: ~24 hours. not fic-specific but works for anything in that fandom. I've got the shadow and bone soundtrack, the lotr soundtrack, a lot of florence, anything that has light/darkness imagery, anything that feels Bigger in a high-fantasy, fate-of-the-world way

High School au: ~24 hours. basically all pop music circa like 2008–2012 and some pop punk. whatever makes me feel Teenagery again. also functions as a fun nostalgia playlist

Hunger Games au: ~9 hours. as many soundtracks from the movies as I could get from my local library, plus anything folk-y and sad (the civil wars, etc)

Sexy: ~2 hours, not necessarily songs about sex, just songs that Are Sensual musically or kinda kinky bc let's be real about what I'm writing

also it's not a saved playlist, but I've been writing a lot of Edwardian-set stuff lately, so for that I'll go on spotify and put on early 20th-century English composers like Gustav Holst and Ralph Vaughn Williams and let the algo take it from there

In this world, Mairon does not become corrupted, and he and Galadriel have the chance to fall for each other without the obstacles they would’ve had otherwise. The Can't Stop Consuming No Matter What Time It Is Fic: but i thought you might by @bad-surprise

This. Fic! (Listen I realize I start all of these with an exclamation but I don’t know what to tell you, my feelings are my feelings and you guys are the ones doing this to me so… 😂) I binged the heck out of this story this week and got caught up this morning, and I knew immediately I’d be adding it to this week’s list. In this modern AU, Galadriel and Halbrand have a tumultuous, on-and-off-again romance throughout high school/college and as adults, marked by crippling anxiety, religious trauma, and a struggle to communicate… but a fierce (and often unspoken), love for each other that leads to them continuing to fight for happiness. It’s beautiful, dark, and achingly good.

Rings of Power Week Day 7 - Favorite Relationship

It's no surprise I'm going with Haladriel here!!! 😀 As a fan of everything LOTR since I was 15 when I saw the first movie on HBO a year after it came out I never, ever expected to ship Galadriel with Sauron. Somehow this show did it and did it well by doing the enemies to lovers back to enemies troupe that I've been a fan of since being a Spuffy shipper when I was in high school when that was airing. Their whole light/dark, fire/water elements, yin/yang balance, fully understanding each other, they even would've worked in the 1st Age and/or if he never turned to Morgoth and they met first, all work. They also would've worked even if he was just Halbrand, and why it does in all the AU fics in so many different universes and situations. I even re-read the books, finally read "The Silmarillion", and re-watched the movies and it just adds to it all if you go into it thinking they're exes. LOL This is also now the 2nd largest group of fanfics I've ever written for a fandom behind LOST. It just works for me and I'll never see any of it the same way again and very excited for whatever happens even though I know it'll mostly just be pain. LOL

One! Two if you count the truly bad LOTR fic I wrote in high school.

2. How many years have you been writing fanfiction?

I wrote a story or two in high school and then nothing for a long time. I started really writing almost a year ago (just looked published my first fic on 5/21)

3. Do you read or write more fanfiction?

Writing because I basically only read Ted Lasso fan fiction recently and it’s just slowed its output.

4. What is one way you've improved as a writer?

I’ve learned to outline a bit more than just winging it like I did for so long. I’m not sure if there’s a specific thing I’ve improved on, just generally I think (I hope).

5. What's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?

How to make chloroform lol but mostly just injury related things, spleen removal, stuff like that. Total normal whump writer things.

I truly love any and all comments, I’d be lying if I didn’t say I loved the long, detailed type with quotes, etc but I also love the ones that are just a sentence of reaction like one I got that just said “good fucking fic” and I LOVED that.

7. What's the most fringe trope/topic you write about?

My online circle contains a lot of whump-enthusiasts but probably whump although gen stories sometimes feel very fringe.

8. What is the hardest type of story for you to write?

All of them? I can’t do anything short, which is why whumptober was so hard to get though, I want the whump but then I want the comfort and I just don’t know how to write something concise that is satisfying to me.

9. What is the easiest type?

I don’t know if I find anything about writing easy. Different parts of the story are easier than others but I haven’t found a type that is easy.

10. Where do you do your writing? What platform? When?

Wherever I can, but usually from my couch. I use google docs but have wanted to look into other platforms but none seem to have exactly what I want. Whenever my brain tells me to write.

11. What is something you've been too nervous/intimidated to write, but would love to write one day?

Hockey AU for sure, along with an idea I have for a post-series fic where Michelle and Henry move to London and Ted stays.

12. What made you choose your username?

I was looking for a new one that I could use here and on ao3. When I mentioned this to the brilliant @jamiesfootball they suggested something to incorporate my love of Noah Kahan (many many of my titles are from his songs) so jamietarttsnorthernattitude was born. I’d like to think Jamie and I share a Northern Attitude.

Right now, to nobody's surprise, Gale/Devi is eating my soul. On paper, they shouldn't work -- he's an educated, wealthy, powerful mage (who makes very poor life choices), and she's a much-younger-than-him thief who grew up as an urchin on the streets of Baldur's Gate, whose only "acceptable" skill is playing a violin (apparently pickpocketing and stabbing people aren't considered widely acceptable or desirable skills?). But in all the ways that really count, they are compatible -- they're protective of each other and their friends, and Devi's street-smarts balance out Gale's book/arcane knowledge, and her feisty-ness is another counter to his more balanced way of dealing with things (read: he's 90% of her impulse control). I suppose opposites DO attract! ;)

Theron/Xaja has lived in my brain ever since Shadow of Revan dropped, in canon-verse and in at least two AU's. Theron definitely brought out a side of Xaja that isn't necessarily a proper Jedi side to show, but it's definitely her -- she's also feisty, and protective, and she's got a snarky streak to her that sings to Theron's soul. And she loves Theron's devotion to the cause, and his intelligence, and his wit.

(also, looking at Xaja and Devi... apparently I've got a TYPE when it comes to my main characters in RPGs. You should take a look at my canon Warden from DAO sometime, Lynaen... who ALSO is a redheaded dual-wielding rogue with a healthy dose of snark. At least she was raised a Cousland and didn't spend time learning how to pickpocket on the streets like the other two? #roguelifeFTW)

And I gotta talk about Reanden/Mairen too. They started on a bit of a whim when @andveryginger and I decided to throw them together for a couple of one-off kiss prompts, annnnnd now they run a good chunk of our respective brains (Reanden likes to hang out in Ginger's head a lot). Mai (Ginger's) loves Reanden's intelligence, and his dedication to his kids and the Republic, and the compassionate, caring streak he has under his sociopathic facade. And he's got a type for snarky redheaded Corellian Jedi ladies -- the fact that Mai loves his kids like they're her own, and doesn't think less of him for his rare moments of vulnerability, means the galaxy to him.

First Ship

Oh man -- my very first OTP was Faramir/Eowyn from LOTR, ever since I first read the books at the ripe old age of 12 years old, and it's STILL one of my favourite ships. I think, even 20 years ago, I was seeing myself in Eowyn (as a female character, as one who wanted to fight and seek out renown, as one who, as I would discover later on in my own life, had a bucketload of mental health problems to the tune of depression), and wanted my own Faramir (gentle, noble, compassionate, intelligent). So a bit of projection there? ;) The first ship I wrote... well, I'd started a girl-falls-into-Middle-earth fic in high school, and the endgame goal was my OC with Legolas, but looking back on it now, I think my OC may have had more chemistry with Boromir. Either way, that fic has been abandoned for like 15 years -- I ain't bringing it back out to resurrect it. ;)

Currently Reading

"Tress of the Emerald Sea" by Brandon Sanderson. I'm not too far into it, but so far I'm enjoying it! (Also, I LOVE Sanderson's writing style, and the little bits of snark he peppers in there. Current favourite line: "... he had a jaw so straight that it made other men question if they were.")

Last Film

In theatres -- "Argylle", which I enjoyed! I wouldn't class it as a "favourite" movie, but it was fun! At home (read: at Chez Boyfriend), it was "RED" -- that's one of my favourites. Bruce Willis and Karl Urban snarking at each other... =D (Karl is also my faceclaim for Reanden, and that movie was a big inspiration!)

Currently Craving

Nothing at the moment! I have my coffee and I have a big-ass Costco-sized muffin that I'm working on before I go for my tattoo appointment. (Also, Part 1 of my tax return came in last week... I could get ALL the groceries, thank God! Part 2 is dropping on Thursday, for all the backpay after the CRA applied the ADHD disability credit to my previous years... I legit cried when I saw that number. I can afford to get my car fixed, AND get this new tattoo, AND a haircut, AND maybe, I don't know, throw something into a retirement fund!)

I was tagged by @elfscribe and @ettelene ages ago, but life's been busy and I'm trying to be a good mom as the kids start new schools (and a good mentor at work to a new trainee), plus I'm about 2/3 of the way through a crucial chapter of Montreal Confidential (which I've been stubbornly making time for, an hour a day), AND we all have nasty colds as the school germs get passed around once again... Anyway, better late than never.

A Way to Measure Time

Fandom: Harry Potter. The year is 2006. Severus Snape, who works for the Refugee Board, is no stranger to desperate people who seek asylum in the West. He deals with them on a regular basis, arranging for the deportation of many. He's not soft-hearted; he's had his share of troubles too, and it's pointless to feel sorry for strangers. But then, one day, Remus Lupin walks into his office. And things change. Non-magical AU set in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

If you read Harry Potter fic and you're enjoying Montreal Confidential, this multi-chapter fic may appeal to you. It's got angst, smut, and an eventual happy ending.

Watch One Hour With Me

A fanfic based on Mary Renault's The Charioteer. After Laurie's mother's wedding, Ralph and Laurie spend a night at Laurie's childhood home. AKA the 'wedding night' fic.

I put my heart and soul into writing this fic, back in the mid-2000s. When I think of myself as "a writer," the image that comes into my head is me getting up at the crack of dawn, before work, to immerse myself in writing this piece. Happiness is being in the middle of writing a Charioteer fic.

Same Shade of Gold

Fandom: Silmarillion. Turgon loves Elenwë. Finrod loves Turgon. Elenwë is pushed to the brink by the strain of the Helcaraxë. There are strange things done in the land of no sun by the Elves with hair of gold… An angsty love story with a ghostly twist.

The first fic I wrote when I got back into writing fiction (after a 15-year hiatus). I'm quite pleased with it. It's angsty -- but there's a happy sequel!

In the Bleak Midwinter

Fandom: Silmarillion. Elrond/Gil-galad. On a cold winter night in Lindon, things heat up between the High King and his herald for the very first time. The definitive early 2000s LOTR fandom portrayal of Gil-galad. Darth Fingon once called this story "bloody awesome" and that's still one of my favourite compliments.

Just so you know, there's smut aplenty in all of these stories.

lyra ⟡ when do you feel most at ease?

⟢ daydreaming or reading in bed. i’ve spent a lot of time making my room somewhere i want to be, so getting to lay down at the end of a long day and relax with my mood lighting is so nice (plus, my bed is comfy as hell (⸝⸝ᵕᴗᵕ⸝⸝)♡). finding a good book makes the experience ten times better, especially if my cat decides to visit and cuddle. on the go, listening to music always makes me feel better, even if i’m somewhere that stresses me out.

sagittarius ⟡ what is something random that most people don’t know about you?

⟢ i have an incredibly extensive daydream universe — i’ve had a daydream narrative for pretty much every part of my life, and can categorize them by year. my favorite has probably been sophomore through senior year of high school, where my daydreams focused on a somewhat canon-compliant, sci-fi au for rei todoroki & nana shimura from my hero academia! right now, i have a sideblog focused on my current narrative, which includes a half-original, half-self insert based plot.

fornax ⟡ what quality does a person need to have for you to instantly like or click with them?

⟢ kindness & empathy. if someone is aware of the horrors of the world but continues to make an effort to be kind to others, i have a lot of respect for them. this can translate into many different situations (i.e. being nice to animals, thanking customer service workers, taking care of family, etc.) but the common thread is having empathy for others. i tend to gravitate towards introverted and low-drama people as well!

puppis ⟡ what's the most stupid / disappointing / bad movie or tv show you have ever seen?

⟢ my mom and i sometimes watch corny b-movies together, so if we’re talking “so bad it’s good” territory, i’d have to say the sharknado series or anything in that “b-movie monster takeover genre” — they’re definitely a guilty pleasure!

⟢ however, if we’re talking about the stuff that grinds my gears, my hero academia fell out of favor with me years ago due to some writing issues (especially the endeavor redemption arc and general direction) and i stand by the fact quirkless deku would’ve been a more impactful narrative.

⟢ also, as a tolkien fan rings of power is very disappointing. there’s a lot of inconsistencies and lackluster creative directions that i think could’ve been avoided by sticking closer to the source material. i’m aware that the creative team may have run into copyright or licensing issues with the silmarillion and i’m all for bringing new ideas to the table, but i still think better plot & character decisions could’ve been made.

bonus ⟡ good movies and tv shows i like

⟢ at my core i’m really not built to be a hater, so i figured i’d share some movies & shows i like after ranting in the last section!

⟢ movies: the lord of the rings trilogy (2001-2003) and annihilation (2018). these are some of my favorite movies of all time, and are a masterclass in adaptive plot, characters, and music — they’ve heavily shaped my interests and growth as a person, and i highly recommend them to any fans of genre fiction.

⟢ shows: hunter x hunter (2011), arcane (2021), and andor (2022). these are my top three shows at the moment. hunter x hunter is hands-down my favorite anime of all time, and the rewatchability of arcane & andor is insane. like lotr, these shows are also masterclasses of their mediums and genres, combining some of the most beautiful character development i’ve seen with the screenwriting i wish rings of power had.
