Lady Ballers (2023)

I'd not been too impressed with either of the other two Daily Wire films I've seen - the Prairie western thing and the one about the school shooter. I admired them for trying to create something separate from the collapsing PC cesspit that is Hollywood, but the end result was too amateurish, and they both felt like student films or one of those straight-to-DVD Christian movies.

This one, though, I felt cautiously optimistic about going in, because the one thing the non-woke types have really got on their side is humour, so I thought they should be able to correctly judge the acquisition of the laughs, and I'm glad to say I was right.

The basic plot is that a failing high school basketball coach realizes in the present era of gender madness we are passing through, he can coach his older, over-the-hill male students to greatness if he just passes them off as trans.

That's pretty much all there is to it, which seems such a glaringly obvious thing to make a comedy about, but of course, it being 2023, no-one else now (okay, except South Park) has the guts to do it. Wokeness and cowardice created a humour-void and the Daily Wire rushed in with a golden ticket to fill it.

The film itself really just feels like a slightly above-average comedy from 15 or 20 years ago, like The Hangover or Dodgeball or something like that, when jokes still existed and the world was still funny. It's not overtly political, other than mocking the madness we can all see around us every day, and at no point did I feel like I was being preached to, which made for a pleasant change.

Just about all the Daily Wire presenters are roped in for some well-placed cameos, but it's Matt Walsh who steals the show as the coach's ex-wife's new hippie boyfriend, something so out of character from what you'd expect from him, but he embraces it with gusto and nails it to a T.

The film hits all its targets splendidly, and it's enjoyable and fun all the way through, so comedy would indeed appear to be the genre the Daily Wire have the most natural aptitude for, and I'd be glad to see them make more like this.

The reason lady ballers has such a high score is because no normal person is watching it. It caters to a very specific audience so that no one outside of it watches it or rates it.

Sooo, I watched 'Lady Ballers' on 123 movies, so let's talk about it.

I will say, it is fascinating as a piece of cinema. At the least, this flick is a comedy, and a romp, so I'm not going to pick it apart as if it was trying to be something it's not. If you watch the trailer, you know exactly what you're in for. It has a decent budget, a bundle of cameos from conservative celebrities. I'm a dem, but when viewing media I try to keep an open mind. For example. I have seen entertaining conservative media in the past. I have a soft spot for the Tuttle Twins cartoon.

...But, yeah, this flick missed the mark. On the one hand, it is a farce. For example, the 'liberal' boyfriend puts ten gay pride flags in his lawn which. C'mon. And, not going to lie, I was genuinely interested in Alex's plot line. I thought they might have gone for a 'Blaire White' situation in which 'not all trans are bad'. But nah, they went whole hog deeply into the idea that no one can be trans, period. And if you are? Your parents suck. Idk. To be real, this was a dumb movie. And by the end, it felt like straight up propaganda. Like, if thats the joke? Like 'ha ha you libs make movies with big statements all the time so we will too'? Well, ok. But, from now on it's the pot calling the kettle black.

I will say, give Matt Walsh the Oscar. I had no idea it was him until the glasses came on in the end. Boy is an actor. But yeah, this movie was dumb, rigid, and while it attempted to poke a little fun at social media, by the end discounting every trans person alive was not the move I tell you what. If u like weird media, check this out.
