Start Your JavaScript Journey with WebTutor
In the world of web development, JavaScript has emerged as an essential programming language. Its versatility, ease of use, and ability to interact with HTML and CSS make it a powerful tool for creating dynamic and interactive websites. In this blog, we will explore the fundamental concepts of JavaScript, from its basic syntax and output to variables, operators, and more. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned developer, there's something for everyone to learn and apply. Additionally, we'll introduce you to an excellent resource, webtutor.dev, where you can further enhance your JavaScript skills.
JavaScript Output
JavaScript allows developers to communicate with users by generating output in various ways. The most common method of output is using the console.log() function. It prints messages or data to the browser's console, which is useful for debugging and understanding what's happening in your code.
JavaScript Syntax
The syntax of JavaScript is quite user-friendly and similar to many other programming languages. Here are a few key points to remember:
Statements: JavaScript code is made up of statements, which can be declarations, assignments, function calls, loops, etc.
Case Sensitivity: JavaScript is case-sensitive, so variables myVar, myvar, and MYVAR are considered different.
Semicolons: While optional, it's a good practice to end statements with semicolons to avoid potential issues.
Whitespace: JavaScript ignores whitespace, so you can use spaces, tabs, and newlines for code formatting.
JavaScript Comments
JavaScript Comments are essential for code documentation and explanation. JavaScript supports both single-line and multi-line comments. Single-line comments start with //, and multi-line comments are enclosed between /* and */.
JavaScript Variables
Variables in JavaScript are used to store data values. They are declared using the let or const keyword. let allows reassignment, while const creates a constant that cannot be reassigned.
JavaScript Operators
Operators are symbols used to perform operations on variables and values. JavaScript supports various types of operators:
Arithmetic Operators: Used for basic arithmetic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, etc.
Comparison Operators: Used to compare values and return true or false based on the comparison.
Logical Operators: Used to combine multiple conditions and determine the overall truth value.
Assignment Operators: Used to assign values to variables.
Ternary Operator: A shorthand way of writing conditional statements.
Conclusion
JavaScript is the backbone of modern web development, enabling you to create dynamic and interactive websites that engage users effectively. By mastering JavaScript's syntax, output, comments, variables, and operators, you will have a strong foundation to build upon. Remember, continuous learning is the key to staying relevant and growing as a developer.
So, start your JavaScript journey today, and do not forget to visit webtutor.dev for an enriching learning experience that will take your skills to new heights. Happy coding!

komaedas have you tried straw.page?
(i hope you don't mind if i make a big ollllle webdev post off this!)
i have never tried straw.page but it looks similar to carrd and other WYSIWYG editors (which is unappealing to me, since i know html/css/js and want full control of the code. and can't hide secrets in code comments.....)
my 2 cents as a web designer is if you're looking to learn web design or host long-term web projects, WYSIWYG editors suck doodooass. you don't learn the basics of coding, someone else does it for you! however, if you're just looking to quickly host images, links to your other social medias, write text entries/blogposts, WYSIWYG can be nice.
toyhouse, tumblr, deviantart, a lot of sites implement WYSIWYG for their post editors as well, but then you can run into issues relying on their main site features for things like the search system, user profiles, comments, etc. but it can be nice to just login to your account and host your information in one place, especially on a platform that's geared towards that specific type of information. (toyhouse is a better example of this, since you have a lot of control of how your profile/character pages look, even without a premium account) carrd can be nice if you just want to say "here's where to find me on other sites," for example. but sometimes you want a full website!
---------------------------------------
neocities hosting
currently, i host my website on neocities, but i would say the web2.0sphere has sucked some doodooass right now and i'm fiending for something better than it. it's a static web host, e.g. you can upload text, image, audio, and client-side (mostly javascript and css) files, and html pages. for the past few years, neocities' servers have gotten slower and slower and had total blackouts with no notices about why it's happening... and i'm realizing they host a lot of crypto sites that have crypto miners that eat up a ton of server resources. i don't think they're doing anything to limit bot or crypto mining activity and regular users are taking a hit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
↑ page 1 on neocitie's most viewed sites we find this site. this site has a crypto miner on it, just so i'm not making up claims without proof here. there is also a very populated #crypto tag on neocities (has porn in it tho so be warned...).
---------------------------------------
dynamic/server-side web hosting
$5/mo for neocities premium seems cheap until you realize... The Beautiful World of Server-side Web Hosting!
client-side AKA static web hosting (neocities, geocities) means you can upload images, audio, video, and other files that do not interact with the server where the website is hosted, like html, css, and javascript. the user reading your webpage does not send any information to the server like a username, password, their favourite colour, etc. - any variables handled by scripts like javascript will be forgotten when the page is reloaded, since there's no way to save it to the web server. server-side AKA dynamic web hosting can utilize any script like php, ruby, python, or perl, and has an SQL database to store variables like the aforementioned that would have previously had nowhere to be stored.
there are many places in 2024 you can host a website for free, including: infinityfree (i use this for my test websites :B has tons of subdomains to choose from) [unlimited sites, 5gb/unlimited storage], googiehost [1 site, 1gb/1mb storage], freehostia [5 sites/1 database, 250mb storage], freehosting [1 site, 10gb/unlimited storage]
if you want more features like extra websites, more storage, a dedicated e-mail, PHP configuration, etc, you can look into paying a lil shmoney for web hosting: there's hostinger (this is my promocode so i get. shmoney. if you. um. 🗿🗿🗿) [$2.40-3.99+/mo, 100 sites/300 databases, 100gb storage, 25k visits/mo], a2hosting [$1.75-12.99+/mo, 1 site/5 databases, 10gb/1gb storage], and cloudways [$10-11+/mo, 25gb/1gb]. i'm seeing people say to stay away from godaddy and hostgator. before you purchase a plan, look up coupons, too! (i usually renew my plan ahead of time when hostinger runs good sales/coupons LOL)
here's a big webhost comparison chart from r/HostingHostel circa jan 2024.
Tumblr media
---------------------------------------
domain names
most of the free website hosts will give you a subdomain like yoursite.has-a-cool-website-69.org, and usually paid hosts expect you to bring your own domain name. i got my domain on namecheap (enticing registration prices, mid renewal prices), there's also porkbun, cloudflare, namesilo, and amazon route 53. don't use godaddy or squarespace. make sure you double check the promo price vs. the actual renewal price and don't get charged $120/mo when you thought it was $4/mo during a promo, certain TLDs (endings like .com, .org, .cool, etc) cost more and have a base price (.car costs $2,300?!?). look up coupons before you purchase these as well!
namecheap and porkbun offer something called "handshake domains," DO NOT BUY THESE. 🤣🤣🤣 they're usually cheaper and offer more appealing, hyper-specific endings like .iloveu, .8888, .catgirl, .dookie, .gethigh, .♥, .❣, and .✟. I WISH WE COULD HAVE THEM but they're literally unusable. in order to access a page using a handshake domain, you need to download a handshake resolver. every time the user connects to the site, they have to provide proof of work. aside from it being incredibly wasteful, you LITERALLY cannot just type in the URL and go to your own website, you need to download a handshake resolver, meaning everyday internet users cannot access your site.
---------------------------------------
hosting a static site on a dynamic webhost
you can host a static (html/css/js only) website on a dynamic web server without having to learn PHP and SQL! if you're coming from somewhere like neocities, the only thing you need to do is configure your website's properties. your hosting service will probably have tutorials to follow for this, and possibly already did some steps for you. you need to point the nameserver to your domain, install an SSL certificate, and connect to your site using FTP for future uploads. FTP is a faster, alternative way to upload files to your website instead of your webhost's file upload system; programs like WinSCP or FileZilla can upload using FTP for you.
if you wanna learn PHP and SQL and really get into webdev, i wrote a forum post at Mysidia Adoptables here, tho it's sorted geared at the mysidia script library itself (Mysidia Adoptables is a free virtual pet site script, tiny community. go check it out!)
---------------------------------------
file storage & backups
a problem i have run into a lot in my past like, 20 years of internet usage (/OLD) is that a site that is free, has a small community, and maybe sounds too good/cheap to be true, has a higher chance of going under. sometimes this happens to bigger sites like tinypic, photobucket, and imageshack, but for every site like that, there's like a million of baby sites that died with people's files. host your files/websites on a well-known site, or at least back it up and expect it to go under!
i used to host my images on something called "imgjoe" during the tinypic/imageshack era, it lasted about 3 years, and i lost everything hosted on there. more recently, komaedalovemail had its webpages hosted here on tumblr, and tumblr changed its UI so custom pages don't allow javascript, which prevented any new pages from being edited/added. another test site i made a couple years ago on hostinger's site called 000webhost went under/became a part of hostinger's paid-only plans, so i had to look very quickly for a new host or i'd lose my test site.
if you're broke like me, looking into physical file storage can be expensive. anything related to computers has gone through baaaaad inflation due to crypto, which again, I Freaquing Hate, and is killing mother nature. STOP MINING CRYPTO this is gonna be you in 1 year
Tumblr media
...um i digress. ANYWAYS, you can archive your websites, which'll save your static assets on The Internet Archive (which could use your lovely donations right now btw), and/or archive.today (also taking donations). having a webhost service with lots of storage and automatic backups can be nice if you're worried about file loss or corruption, or just don't have enough storage on your computer at home!
if you're buying physical storage, be it hard drive, solid state drive, USB stick, whatever... get an actual brand like Western Digital or Seagate and don't fall for those cheap ones on Amazon that claim to have 8,000GB for $40 or you're going to spend 13 days in windows command prompt trying to repair the disk and thenthe power is gong to go out in your shit ass neighvborhood and you have to run it tagain and then Windows 10 tryes to update and itresets the /chkdsk agin while you're awayfrom town nad you're goig to start crytypting and kts just hnot going tot br the same aever agai nikt jus not ggiog to be the saeme
---------------------------------------
further webhosting options
there are other Advanced options when it comes to web hosting. for example, you can physically own and run your own webserver, e.g. with a computer or a raspberry pi. r/selfhosted might be a good place if you're looking into that!
if you know or are learning PHP, SQL, and other server-side languages, you can host a webserver on your computer using something like XAMPP (Apache, MariaDB, PHP, & Perl) with minimal storage space (the latest version takes up a little under 1gb on my computer rn). then, you can test your website without needing an internet connection or worrying about finding a hosting plan that can support your project until you've set everything up!
there's also many PHP frameworks which can be useful for beginners and wizards of the web alike. WordPress is one which you're no doubt familiar with for creating blog posts, and Bluehost is a decent hosting service tailored to WordPress specifically. there's full frameworks like Laravel, CakePHP, and Slim, which will usually handle security, user authentication, web routing, and database interactions that you can build off of. Laravel in particular is noob-friendly imo, and is used by a large populace, and it has many tutorials, example sites built with it, and specific app frameworks.
---------------------------------------
addendum: storing sensitive data
if you decide to host a server-side website, you'll most likely have a login/out functionality (user authentication), and have to store things like usernames, passwords, and e-mails. PLEASE don't launch your website until you're sure your site security is up to snuff!
when trying to check if your data is hackable... It's time to get into the Mind of a Hacker. OWASP has some good cheat sheets that list some of the bigger security concerns and how to mitigate them as a site owner, and you can look up filtered security issues on the Exploit Database.
this is kind of its own topic if you're coding a PHP website from scratch; most frameworks securely store sensitive data for you already. if you're writing your own PHP framework, refer to php.net's security articles and this guide on writing an .htaccess file.
---------------------------------------
but. i be on that phone... :(
ok one thing i see about straw.page that seems nice is that it advertises the ability to make webpages from your phone. WYSIWYG editors in general are more capable of this. i only started looking into this yesterday, but there ARE source code editor apps for mobile devices! if you have a webhosting plan, you can download/upload assets/code from your phone and whatnot and code on the go. i downloaded Runecode for iphone. it might suck ass to keep typing those brackets.... we'll see..... but sometimes you're stuck in the car and you're like damn i wanna code my site GRRRR I WANNA CODE MY SITE!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
↑ code written in Runecode, then uploaded to Hostinger. Runecode didn't tell me i forgot a semicolon but Hostinger did... i guess you can code from your webhost's file uploader on mobile but i don't trust them since they tend not to autosave or prompt you before closing, and if the wifi dies idk what happens to your code.
---------------------------------------
ANYWAYS! HAPPY WEBSITE BUILDING~! HOPE THIS HELPS~!~!~!

I'm doing it, I did it! I officially have a place to never shut the fuck up about fic the way it deserves let's gooooooooooo!!!!!
This blog is under construction!
I am working really hard to bring you all my favorite fics, including plenty that I haven't had the time/space to add onto my previous rec lists over on my personal blog. That being said, I am a bit of a perfectionist, and there's no way to batch move everything, which means the process is a bit tedious.
At the moment, I have ensured that there's a working theme and functional tagging system, although I'm not entirely pleased/finished with the latter. I want to focus on getting more fics up now that there's a structure though, so expect changes to the tagging and navigation system in the next month or so.
While I'm working on posting all the fics I currently have backlogged, my AO3 Bookmark Collection is up to date, and will continue to be the place where I catalogue every fic I plan to share. I always pull from my bookmarks, so everything I post will live there first.
I also have submissions open, so if you have a fic you want to share (whether you have written it, or simply enjoy it as a reader), please feel free to send it in! Asks are open as well, so if you need help finding a specific fic, want to request a general vibe/topic/ect., I'd be more than happy to help! If you submit a fic and I don't post it, it's likely it's already pending in my bookmarks, and I will add it myself soon. I'll always post author submissions though, because I want y'all to be proud of your work!!
Suggestions for how to improve the structure of the blog and tags are also welcome, and you are can message those to me separately.
Lastly, I want this to be a place to celebrate all Trigun fics and authors! That means that, while the fics I read and post have a large lean towards Vashwood (due to the insane brainrot they have over me), that is by no means the only thing allowed. Please don't hesitate to submit or ask for fics with other topics, including ones that don't involve Vash or Wolfwood at all. I just wanted it to be clear that the primary focus would be Vashwood, based on what I read. All I ask is that you include the appropriate cw/tw to your submissions.

so i've been coding a website
home of: the dervampireprince fanart museum, prince's art gallery, a masterlist of resources for making websites and list of web communities, and more!
[18+, minors dni (this blog is 18+ and the art gallery and art museum pages on my site have some 18+ only artworks)]
littlevampire . neocities . org (clickable link in pinned post labelled 'website')
Tumblr media
if you don't follow me on twitch or aren't in my discord, you might not know i've been coding my own website via neocities since june 2024. it's been a big labour of love, the only coding i'd done before is a little html to customize old tumblr themes, so i've learnt a lot and i've been having so much fun. i do link to it on my carrds but not everyone will know that the icon of a little cat with a wrench and paintbrush is the neocities logo, or even what neocities is.
neocities is a free website builder, but not like squarespace or wix that let you build a website from a template with things you can drag in, it's all done with html and css code (and you can throw in javascript if you wanna try hurting your brain /hj). i love the passion people have for coding websites, for making their own websites again in defiance of social medias becoming less customisable and websites looking boring and the same as each other. people's neocities sites are so fun to look through, looking at how they express themselves, their art galleries, shrines to their pets or favourite characters or shows or toys or places they've been.
why have i been making a website this way?
well i used to love customising my tumblr theme back when clicking on someone's username here took you to their tumblr website, their username . tumblr . com link that you could edit and customise with html code. now clicking a username takes you to their mobile page view, a lot of users don't even know you can have a website with tumblr, the feature to have a site became turned off by default, and i've heard from some users that they might have to pay to unlock that feature.
i've always loved the look of old geocities and angelfire websites, personalised sites, and i've grown tired of every social media trying to look the same as each other, remove features that let users customise their profiles and pages more. and then i found out about neocities.
are you interested in making a site too?
neocities is free, though you can pay to support them. there is no ads, no popups, they have no ai tool scraping their sites, no tos that will change to suddenly stop allow 18+ art. unlike other website hosters, neocities does have a sort of social media side where you do have a profile and people can follow you and leave comments on your site and like your updates, but you can ignore this if you want, or use it to get to know other webmasters.
to quote neocities "we are tired of living in an online world where people are isolated from each other on boring, generic social networks that don't let us truly express ourselves. it's time we took back our personalities from these sterilized, lifeless, monetized, data mined, monitored addiction machines and let our creativity flourish again."
i'd so encourage anyone interested to try making a website with neocities. w3schools is an excellent place to start learning coding, and there are free website templates you can copy and paste and use (my site is built off two different free codes, one from fujoshi . nekoweb . org and the other from sadgrl's free layout builder tool).
your site can be for anything:
a more fun and interactive online business card (rather than using carrd.co or linktree)
a gallery of your art/photos/cosplays/etc
a blog
webshrines to your a character, film, song, game, toy, hobby, your pet - anything can be a shrine!
a catalogue/database/log of every film you've watched, every place you've visited, birds you've seen, plushies you own, every blinkie gif you have saved, your ocs and stories, etc
hosting a webcomic
a fanwiki/fansite that doesn't have endless ads like fandom . com does (i found a cool neocities fansite for rhythm game series pop'n music and it's so thorough, it even lists all the sprites and official art for every character)
i follow a website that just reviews every video game based on whether or not it has a frog in it, if the frog is playable, if you can be friends with it. ( frogreview . neocities . org )
the only html i knew how to write before starting is how to paragraph and bold text. and now i have a whole site! and i'm still working on new stuff for it all the time.
Tumblr media
i just finished making a page on my website called 'explore the web'. this page lists everything you might need to know when wanting to make or decorate your website. it lists:
other neocities sites i think are cool and i'm inspired by, check them out for more ideas of what your site could look like and contain!
website building resources
coding help and tutorials
free website html code layouts you can use if you don't want too start coding from scratch
places to find graphics and decorative images for your site (transparent background pngs, pixels, favicons, stamps, blinkies, buttons, userboxes, etc)
image generators for different types of buttons and gifs (88x31 buttons, tiny identity buttons, heart locket open gifs, headpat gifs)
widgets and games and interactive elements you can add to your site (music players, interactive pets like gifypet and tamanotchi, hit counters, games like pacman and crosswords, guestbooks and chatboxes, etc)
web manifestos, guides, introductions and explanations of webmastering and neocities (some posts made by other tumblr users here are what made me finally want to make my own site and discover how too)
art tools, resources and free drawing programs
web communities! webrings, cliques, fanlistings, pixel clubs (pixel art trades) and more!
other fun sites that didn't fit in the other categories like free sheet music sites, archives, egotistical.goat (see a tumblr users audio posts/reblogs as a music playlist), soul void (a wonderful free to play video game i adore), an online omnichord you can play, and more.
i really hope the 'explore the web' page is helpful, it took three days to track down every link and find resources to add.
and if you want to check out my site there's more than just these pages. like i said in the beginning, i recently finished making:
the dervampireprince fanart museum
Tumblr media
every piece of fanart i've received (unless the sender asked me to keep it private) has been added to this museum and where possible links back to the original artists post of that art (a lot the art was sent to me via discord so i can't link to the original post). every piece of fanart sent to me now will be added on their unless you specifically say you don't want it going on there. there's also links to my fanworks guide on there and how to send me fanart.
other pages on my site
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
about me (including favourite media, quizzes, comfort characters, kins, and more)
art gallery (art i've made, sorted by month)
graphics (so far it's just stamps i've made but plan to remake this section of my site)
media log (haven't started the 2025 one yet, but a log of all films, tv, writing, music, theatre, fandoms, characters and ships i got into in 2024)
silly web pets
shrines
site map
update log
my shrines so far:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i have ones for lucifer from supernatural, sam winchester from supernatural, charuca minifigures (arcade prizes i wanted as a kid that i'm trying to finish collecting as an adult), my waifuroulette discord tcg collection. my masterlist of every lgbt+ marvel character is a wip. i love making each shrine look different and suit the character/fandom/thing the shrine is about. and then there's also:
the european musical section
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i ramble about them a lot and it's no surprise there's multiple shrines for them. i fell in love with german musical theatre in 2020 and that expanded in being interested in all non-english language musical theatre and trying to spread the word of it and how they deserve to be as known as english-language musicals. one musical in particular, elisabeth das musical, is my biggest special interest so expect a very detailed shrine about that one day.
so far this part of the site includes
'enter the theatre' an interactive web theatre where you choose a ticket and that musical will play on the stage (click a ticket and the embedded youtube video for that musical will appear on the stage and play. i dealt with javascript for the first time to bring the vision i had for this page alive, it might be slow but i hope enjoyable)
elisabeth das musical webshrine [not made yet]
tanz der vampire webshrine [not made yet, might abandon the idea]
my favourite european musicals [not made yet]
a masterlist of european musicals [a wip, only two musicals listed so far, i am listing every musical and every production they've had, this was a word document i kept for a long time that i always wanted to share somehow and this page is how i'll do it. there's no other list for european musicals out there so i guess it's up to me as always /lh]
the future for my site
i will update my art gallery, the fanart museum, my media log and other collections as often as i can. there's so many more pages i want to add including:
profiles for my ocs
finish my european musical masterlist
finish my 'every marvel lgbt+ character' masterlist (i have no love for marvel or disney's lgbt+ representation nor are all of these characters good representation and a lot are very minor characters, but for some reason i have gotten hyperfixated on this topic a few times so here comes a masterlist)
make shrines for loki (marvel), ares (hades), my sylvanian families collection, vocaloid (and/or vocaloid medleys), my plushie collection, pullip dolls
make a 'page not found' page
and i have one big plan to essentially make a site within a site, and make a website for my monster boy band ocs. but make it as if it was a real band, an unfiction project (think like how welcome home's website portrays welcome home as if it was a real show). this site would have pages for the band members, their albums, merch and maybe a pretend shop, and a fake forum where you could see other characters in the story talking and click on their profiles to find out more about them. and then once that's all done i want to start posting audios about the characters and then people can go to the website to find out more about them. that's my big plan anyway. i hope that sounds interesting.
i also want to make an effort to try and join some website communities. be brave and apply for some webrings and fanlistings, and make some pixel art and join some of the amazing pixel clubs out there.
but yeah, that's my site, that's neocities. i hope that was interesting. i hope it encourages people to make their own site, or at least look at other's small websites and explore this part of the internet. and if you go and check out mine feel free to drop a message in the guestbook on the homepage, or follow me on neocities if you have/make an account.

I feel like some people are too serious with learning how to program. “I gotta be the best in this and that and build this and that to impress this employer” blah blah, that kills the fun out of programming. I see a lot of people (bashing people on Twitter again and actually a few people on here too, oops) making programming such a serious topic and you can’t have fun in it. Besides the proper syntax, documentation, best practises whatever, people in the tech community have putting up “rules” about how you should program and what to learn and if you fall out of that, you get ridiculed for it. Literally making it less fun.
Someone said that there’s no point in learning jQuery because JavaScript alone can do all that jQuery can and more.
So? I’m still going to learn it for fun? I’m having a blast with SCSS and jQuery, I don’t care 🤷🏾‍♀️ and I’ll learn the other frameworks and libraries that suits me because I want to. I don’t care if the entire tech community stops using a technology - if it interests me, I’m still going to learn it~!
Also no hate or anything to that person who said that to me - I completely understand your POV on jQuery! 💗✨ When I first read comment, I was a bit down like “oh what’s the point then…” but slapped myself and was like “I’m not learning for them or anyone. This library is cool and I like it so I’m still gonna use it”
Moral of the story: just do you. Do what makes you happy, code what you happy. Don’t be so serious all the time and make stupid dumb programs or games or websites whatever. Have fun in such a hard subject!!!

at last…. the final header:
Tumblr media
this blog is a promotional site for a hole-in-the-wall cocktail bar on a commercial starliner in the year 2202, headed to the inner Oort cloud on a two-year sightseeing cruise. people from all over the globe have bought, earned, or snuck their way onboard its maiden voyage, and all seems well until the ship loses contact with Earth, very far away from home…
all the characters will be bar staff or ‘frequent flier’ patrons, and each will have their own usernames, icons, and ‘about me’ pages. i’m sticking to pixel art for this project because it’s fun, cute, and doesn’t take forever! character communications will mainly run through posts and comments, with chat rooms and hidden messages later on, if i Get Good at coding 👍 most of the groundwork is done - now i just need to paint lots of cool futuristic cocktails :)

I made some pages in HTML and CSS, now what?
For this week's Content™, I answer a question that troubles all buddying web developers: what should you learn once you've become somewhat comfortable with HTML and CSS?
In this article, we explore 3 paths:
Static Site Generation, for those who like creating a lot of content (and my recommendation for fannish folks). If you've heard me continuously rave about Astro, this is where you'll learn to set it up.
Playing Around in the Browser, for those who want a taste of JavaScript without committing to installing anything (or are looking to add more complex interactivity to their pages).
The Server Path, for those who want to learn how to work with data to create things like guestbooks and comment sections!
I hope this is useful, and let me know what you all think!

only commenting on this bc regardless of the quality of homestuck/anyone's opinions on homestuck. i want more people to do this with their art. but for that one anon yea it's got a soundtrack bc it's mixed media! the meat is regular webcomic panels but there's also gameplay sections and video sections etc etc. toby fox did a chunk of the og music, that's why u might've heard that megalovania was vriska's theme before it was in undertale.
i'm gonna say that megalovania being vriska's theme is propaganda for her. but u r welcome to not post this if u r sick of hearing about homestuck
Mixed media my beloved, there really should be more multimedia web art because the hosting platform of the internet itself lends itself sooooo well to it. Like trust me, learn some basic html and css and maybe some JavaScript and you won’t regret it, you can do beautiful things

I hate to do this so soon after I just came back to IWSY, but with the recent developments of what Tumblr staff has been doing, I've honestly had enough. If you missed it, the basic rundown is that the CEO of Tumblr, photomatt, has been personally targeting, harassing, and threatening to call the cops and the FBI on a trans woman. This is the last straw for me in a long string of fuck ups from Tumblr staff, and I'm moving operations off of Tumblr. I'm going to finish up Status Update 13 here, but future updates will no longer be on this blog.
That isn't to say that IWSY is shutting down for good. I've made an account on Cohost, but I'm still learning the new site and figuring out how things work. If Scene 14 starts before I've finished setting things up, it will be temporarily run over at the official website for IWSY. This is, for the record, the ultimate goal for the website: To function as a non-account dependent way to witness and engage in the story being told. But for now, IWSY is migrating to Cohost while I learn javascript and figure out how to add commenting functions. You don't need an account to read Cohost posts, thankfully, but you will need an account to interact there, just like on Tumblr. You can also join the official Discord server for IWSY as an alternative.
This blog will stay up and the pinned post will probably be periodically updated, but after this I imagine this will be converted purely into an ask blog that isn't canon to IWSY's events. Thank you for sticking around for this story, and I hope you'll continue to keep up with the gameplay. If not, the AO3 version will always continue updating.

USEFUL TIPS FOR ANYONE USING NEOCITIES
So, I saw this super awesome post called BEGINNERS GUIDE TO BLUESKY and it more or less inspired me to make a post of my own pertaining to the the likes of Neocities.
What is Neocities?
Long story short, it is an open-source web hosting service that is both F2U (1 GB storage/200 GB bandwidth) and P2U (50 GB storage/3000 GB bandwidth). It's kinda sorta a spiritual successor to the now defunct GeoCities.
Why Use Neocities?
HELPFUL LINKS
Neocities has a full on Tutorials Page to help people wanting to learning how to code. Though I will say that I'm a bit surprised they don't have W3 Schools on there.
CREATIVE FREEDOM
If you Browse on Neocities, you will see how vastly different all of the websites look. That being said, you have an enormous amount of creative freedom when it comes to making your website. You can build it from scratch or look up some pre-made templates from websites such as templatemo, HTML5 Templates, TEMPLATED, template4all, and many more.
Now it is important to note that Neocities doesn't allow certain things such as jQuery, PHP, Python, SQL, etc. In fact, the only things allowed on Neocities are HTML, CSS, and JavaScript! Though I do think it is important to note that you can turn your website into a blog using Zonelets, have a Guestbook/Comments Section with Guestbooks, embed your Bluesky feed with Embed Bsky, embed your Twitter/X feed with Twitter Publish, and much more!
What Do People Use Neocities For?
Some people use it for blogging & portfolio & educational purposes. Some people use it to share their writings & artwork & music. Some people use it to help people with finding neat things. Some people use it for shits and giggles. There are legitimately a number of reasons people use it and you know what? That's 100% a-okay!
Are Any Programs Required To Use Neocities?
Technically, no. The reason I say this is because Neocities has a built-in HTML Editor. However, I don't like using it unless if I absolutely have to (which is next to never). Instead, I use Brackets. It's very user-friendly and it legit lets you know if there's a goof somewhere in your code. Legit 10 out of 10 recommend. Though I will say that some people use Notepad++.

Studying code calmly and avoiding a burnout. Day 1
Tumblr media
If you saw a list of tasks that I said I would do until 23:59 on Sunday, you realized that was a lot for 3 days.
And guess what, he almost had a burnout of his own doing? Myself IEEJIJEIJIE
Yesterday, learning with my elders and colleagues, I understood that I wanted to do a lot of things and almost had my third burnout just to show the recruiter what I can do if I pass the process I want.
BUT it won't do me any good to have a github full of repositories, if I have a burnout and I don't want to touch the code and it gets worse if I'm in a work process because then I'm going to miss a hell of a chance because in the past I've done more than that I could.
SO today Monday I set myself small goals.
[ ] Finish the 1 module Javascript course
[ ] Take the Introduction to computer science with python (1 and 2)
[ ] Object orientation with python
[ ] Project 1 final with Html, css and bootstrap + a bootstrap course individual
I changed plans and that lightened the load. Now I think I can handle it and not freak out.
I will try to make daily updates. I want to be proud of myself in the future when I look at all this bullshit bounout, frustration, etc. And I also share it here for the sake of ego/vanity and wanting to be heard/seen. Which is fine, as long as it's not hurting anyone.
(I don't need any advice comments about ego and vanity. I already have someone to teach me about and I deal very well with my shadows, thank you.)
I wish you a great week, drink water, sunbathe if possible and don't give up.

Hi! Do you think potentially that with this new age if AI, do you think it would be able to create mods and animations for us for games like the sims 3 and so on? I was wondering how amazing it would be if we can use it to our advantage and create all the content we ever desired lol
Hey!! Sorry for not gettting to this in like an entire month! I actually wanted to do some research on it (including asking some people I know who are super into AI stuff right now).
Just a disclaimer: I'm not much of a fan of using AI when it comes to artistic works. Such as Artwork generative AI, or even Photography. Especially when things people worked hours on are being used without their consent for an AI to poop out an artwork/photograph.
With that out of the way, here are my findings:
Textures:
So, as of right now, AI texture generating is something that is actually used these days in games to cut the cost of otherwise purchasing licenses of already made bundles of ground textures and what-not. Indie developers make use of this a lot too. So technically this is already possible, but I'd definetly only use this approach to train the AI on your own portfolio of textures or imagery to make something cool.
Animations:
However, animations, I think would be sort of possible, I just don't know if it would be fully AI though, judging from the industry's development as of right now.
Assuming that the RIG is setup in such a way that it meets the requirements to animate the item from a huge library of movements (think Mixamo, I'm hoping to soon release a tutorial on how to use that for the sims :)), then we really don't need AI really to create animations much. The only thing I'm a bit afraid of though, is that eventually it could feel a bit too "same-y" in mods or even games coming out, if they all used it. AI might change that up a bit though.
Though, as of right now, I don't really believe AI is up for the test though :P Imagine, training a computer that has no limbs and head, to be a human... It just doesn't know how to lol. Here's a great example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJHQXmOpkUE
Scripting:
Just like I don't think scripting will be fully AI anytime soon, I don't think scripting for the sims will either therefore. And here's the thing: AI takes snippets from Stackoverflow and other sources when you ask it to come up with code for a feature.
For example, if I ask ChatGPT for example to create a commenting system in javascript, it comes up with something somewhat great, but it's also missing a lot of crucial bits. For example, how do I delete replies? How do I edit replies? Etc.
With the sims I think that issue would be even bigger. AI simply wouldn't be able to answer properly how to help you create a, let's say, a grassmower mod. That's to do with the database of mods out there, open source like (think github, forums etc) is just too small for it to do. So unless that library gets bigger, I don't think this will be possible any time soon.
Conclusion:
AI is amazing right now with what it shows us what they can do with it. But once you've worked with it, you also realise how limiting it is right now. How counterintuitive it even can be to teach it something.
Sometimes, it's quicker to learn to do it yourself, than to teach AI to do it, because it takes such odd roundabout ways at times that you scratch your head and wonder "How tf did you even come up with that??". And that's because we're asking a computer to think and act like us in some way. It's like asking a puppy to be a cat. It could work out if you add a lot of energy and time into it, but it also won't 100% be the result you want.
At least, with the current way AI functions and learns.
If there's one thing I do hope would come to the sims, is actually those character language models like Skyrim has, where you can talk to your sim, and train it on that sim's background to give you appropiate answers. But I think we'll have to wait a while for that to come out :p.... I tried my hand at it one weekend but I'm not that well adversed into AI training and stuff yet.

As a teenager I learned how to circumvent the anti-right click javascript a lot of sites uses because other anti-scraping measures people used made it impossible for me to comfortably read stuff in reader mode. When I was in my mid-20s I learned how to circumvent Wattpad's silliness for the same reason. If someone is determined enough, they will figure out how to scrape. All the anti-scraping measures people do is encourage people like me who would otherwise read onsite to figure out how to scrape that platform because they've made the reading experience intolerable.

Yup. The thing that will make people leave you comments or pay you for your work or whathaveyou is that they like you. That's really the only surefire method.

This the type of tweets I hate seeing.
a) Its like “oh cool I didn’t know I could make so much with just JavaScript” (News flash: pure vanilla JavaScript can’t unless you’re super lucky, you’ll need to learn a bunch of other JavaScript related technologies to get even 17% of that pay monthly)
b) No job will make you earn that much so that means you’ll have do freelancing where you get clients and do the work for them and get paid of it (Fiverr and UpWork kind of thing), to be earning that much per month is $240k a year
c) Some will feel bad about their skills and even increase that imposter syndrome feeling because they’re not learning JavaScript or they are but learning the “wrong JavaScript”, already increasing pressure on themselves.
d) What even is the “wrong JavaScript”? (News flash: he doesn’t clarify it anywhere in the tweet or on his page).
All I’m saying is this lowkey damaging some, if not most, of the coding community online. If you follow people like this on anywhere and you constantly see these kinds of tweets are you’re learning, it’ll just create doubt within yourself like “What am I doing wrong?” Especially for beginners.
Some will say “oh this can motivate people! Make them work hard to earn this much” and that’s great, find motivation in anything, I’m happy! But reading the comments under this tweet was more like “what am I doing wrong? / “cap” / this is helping with my imposter syndrome” like??
I don’t know this guy’s intentions with this tweet; either clout, for likes, or he genuinely means what he said but it’s not helping at all 😅
If you’re learning to code, please follow the RIGHT people online, no “tech influencers” who do things for clout like this. Find genuine people who are learning like you or someone you can use as a mentor e.g. @tenaciousdeveloper he’s a great inspiration on here, or anyone you see learning coding on here.
That’s all! ☺️
