This is your random reminder that your local library likely has a free app (or multiple!) where you can download all kinds of goodies for free. Books, audiobooks, movies, music, television shows, magazines, the list goes on. All free and you don't even have to leave the house to get them. I have borrowed and read like 200 books the last couple years from mine and didn't pay a dime. It's awesome. Go get your library app now!
#forever mad that my local library does nothing to promote the best service they offer#i have now done more advertising for them than they do#oh well#the apps are great#10/10 highly recommend

I think a core internet experiences is- YES, people are allowed to not like or enjoy the thing *I* like, but they have to dislike it CORRECTLY.
If I watch a youtuber not read any dialogue and then complain about the story not making any sense I'm seething. If I see a youtuber read all the dialogue and then still be like 'this story is shit' I'm like 'lmao yeah fair.'
It's all about knowing that the person actually gave it a fair chance and aren't just going into it already disinterested
#boxes talks#its like. yeah the thing i like is bad but you gotta make jokes about the ACTUAL reasons its bad#a similar but adjacent thing i hate is people going into something that's a specific genre/medium#and then complaining about it. Being that genre/medium#like. im not into any visual novels really but if someone plays a visual novel and then complains abt all the reading.#well its like walking into a library and then complaining about all the books. you're the one in the wrong here. why did you go to a librar#like. if they dont LIKE a genre thats fine. but complaining that a game that advertises itself as being that genre. IS that genre.#is annoying.

AMS Press Lot (AMS Press, 1973). Comic Book Poster (22" X 28") DS. Miscellaneous.
From ha.com...
Featured is a poster issued by AMC Press in 1973 to promote to academic institutions and libraries their comic strips and comic books on microfilm. The poster has several characters from those comic strips and books such as Popeye, Little Orphan Annie, Tarzan, Felix the Cat and Marvel superheroes including Captain America, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Daredevil, Sub-Mariner, Cyclops, and more. On the verso is a printed letter from Stan Lee about the importance of comic books as well as a list of titles and prices. An unrestored poster with bright color and a clean overall appearance. It may have general signs of use, such as slight edge and fold wear, light creases, or unobtrusive stains. There are extra horizontal folds. Please see full-color, enlargeable image above for more details. Folded, Very Fine.

Pleeeaaase, I need everyone here to get hold of Lyndsay Faye's Observations by Gaslight so I can scream about it - especially about "The Adventure of the Stopped Clocks".
It is perfect. It is narrated by Irene Norton née Adler, and additional to the fact that the author portrays Irene AND her relationship with Holmes in such a delightful way (Spoiler TM: They are not star-crossed lovers), it will completely rip out your heart. It is so good. (And the other stories are also superb!) Trust me. Please. I'm desperate. XD
An excerpt (p. 43-44):

See???
#I first got a copy via the library and then decided I needed my own#it's also available as an e-book#both this and the laper back are available for around 10 €#no i have not been payed to advertise it#i am just going insane#so nothing new after all#sherlock holmes#irene adler#dr watson#lyndsay faye#observations by gaslight

do you have any lando writers/fic recs then?
Hi anon! Yes, absolutely, I can give some Lando recs.
I always try to keep my 'fic recs' tag updated as I read and finish and comment on things so you can always check there for more! However, most of the lando things I read are landoscar fics. I do also have some mutuals or people I follow who write 'x reader' for lando that I can send your way as well.
Since I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for, I'll organize both options below:
Lando Writer Recs (mostly x reader)
@theonottsbxtch | @f1lovr | @driverlando | @revolutionsingingintherainnn | @vettelsvee | @katsu28 | @snoopyracing | —All of the above either currently write for Lando x reader or have a selection of Lando fics on their masterlist. I'm sure there are more amazing Lando x reader fic writers I'm leaving out but these were the first few that came to mind for me, personally!
Landoscar Fic Recs (ao3 links)
and your quaint honour turn to dust by foggystars —I'm currently reading this one as my first girl!driver fic and I'm pleasantly surprised at how much I've been enjoying it! It's so much more than just 'making someone into a girl', it's clear the writer really took their time in developing these characters, giving them flaws and backstories and imperfections and everything in between. And the writing really feels so close to home, easy to read, but so professional. I've felt so many feelings with this last chapter and I'm anxiously awaiting more.
The Arrangement by lxuisfineline —Another one I'm currently reading because, you know me, I absolutely love AUs and the concept for this one felt so unique it just caught my interest right away. The writing is detailed and captivating and Lando is such a strong character in his own right and following the journey of his development has been so entertaining! This one also has had a few moments that had me genuinely reacting out loud
Loud and Clear by oscatmeowstri —This was one of the first landoscar fics I read so it holds a special place in my heart! The balance between media 'posts'/radios and narrative writing kept the pacing upbeat and interesting and yet didn't take away from it feeling like a real 'novel'. A good AU for those who are unsure about AUs because it's still in the F1 universe and Lando is still a driver!
Software Instability by KingKestrel —This one was awesome omg. Again, the uniqueness of the summary caught my attention (and the fact that it was an AU) and the writing itself kept me around (and wanting more!). It really had you rooting for them in a world where 'them' felt impossible.
and tbh anything by glasscushion or higgsbosonblues
#if any of the writers mentioned above do not want their blog or work 'advertised' this way plz let me know and i can take you off the list!!#i have more landoscar fics but i did not want to recommend ao3 fics that were restricted just to respect the authors privacy wishes#fic recs#lando norris fic recs#landoscar fic recs#em's fic rec library

Sanji opens his own resturant and Nami, when she draws her maps she always makes a little notation on the corner of how far away the resturant is. Or for closer islands, directions on how to get there.

A fun thing you don't know until you have reason to be actually getting quotes is that furniture for public/high-use/corporate (or public-ish) spaces is heckin expensive
presumably because these things need to stand up to tons of use by people over and over and over, but like
I've spent the day researching and requesting quotes for rolling whiteboards and the prices I've seen from companies I'd probably trust are so far a minimum of $800 for a single whiteboard roughly the height of an average 8-year-old.
#my office chair—swiped from what used to be a setup for patrons in the main library area—is probably a $600 chair by itself#it doesn't look impressive or executive or anything (but I love it) (which is why I was looking to see what it would cost)#bought a $100 rolling whiteboard from Amazon once to tide us over because students use these things SO much#and it died in like. 2 weeks.#Normal furniture is not made to stand up to near-constant use all day after day after day#it's not just libraries; education and corporate places seem to be the same (since what I'm looking for is also advertised for them)#anyway the lesson here is please alumni give us money so we can afford stuff#Kayt.txt#tumblarians#working in a library#library life

Politely asking bookblr (booklr?) If they know any websites besides Amazon that sell indie books and or primarily LGBT books of every genre. I live in a place where the closest indie bookshop is six hours away from me and the only Barnes and Noble has a selection that consists of conservative propoganda and poorly written smutty books. I am. Desperate.
#books and reading#bookblr#booklr#writing#honestly if any authors want to advertise their writing here that would be okay with me too#also before you say go to the library#i live in a state that bans a shit ton of books and the only library in my area got rid of a large chunk of all of the genres i like reading
