Another one for The Case of the Lighthouse Leapers
Tumblr media
So we've seen multiple times that Edwin's not moving a muscle whenever he's threatened (the damsel in distress waiting for his knight with the shining cricket bat as mentioned in some posts... or a freeze response leftover from his time in hell: if they can't see or hear you, they can't hurt you) and I saw something about Edwin's motivations being based on him wanting to be safe.
Tumblr media
When the Night Nurse threatens him directly he's still frozen...

But then Charles starts swinging at her, and Edwin and the girls are shocked, but Edwin quickly goes from shock to concern and fear for Charles (oh the way he gasps out Charles' name here :3).
Tumblr media
He unfreezes and follows Charles... and that's something I really like. His emotions are all over the place and his best friend is taunting someone very dangerous, yet he follows... (do you also see his despair and helplessness in those few steps?)

Have you seen the Frankenstein Chronicles? The first episode is full of Sharpe references. When he's unpacking his kit you see his greenjacket and sword, and when someone asks who he served with, he says 95th Rifles. And another character whistles Over the Hills in the background. I was giggling and kicking my feet the whole way through.
I had not heard of this show before and after a bit of a wikipedia wander I will Certainly be watching it, and not just for the Sharpe references...
given that this also has Necromantical-Science, A Weird Murder Mystery, Probably A Significant Amount of Meat, and Ada Lovelace, this sounds like the Perfect Show for me!

Okay admittedly as much as I love horror movies and books I'm SUCH a baby when it comes to games - but I still want your recommendation list! It's a genre I want to explore more!
first of all, going to recommend it right back to you since you told me about it: SIGNALIS
it's become my favorite game and made me love and appreciate the survival horror genre so much. it's also one of the most interesting works of fiction i've experienced in any media. I STILL THINK ABOUT IT even though i played it about a year ago!! this is my top horror recommendation.
youtube
Mundaun is a folk horror game with a hand drawn art style, set in a remote village in the alps. it's weird, it's funny, it's spooky. you can drive a little truck and collect hay and pet goats and ride a sled down the snowy mountain. sometimes there are Horrors.
youtube
In Sound Mind is a psychological survival horror game where you play as a... psychiatrist! It's not very serious all the time and it has campy humor and there's a cat you can pet! one of the levels was basically straight out of Alan Wake and it was awesome. the soundtrack is also amazing. i'd say this game is more spooky and fun than scary and i really enjoyed it and i wish more ppl knew about it.
youtube
No one lives under the lighthouse is a short (3-4 h) spooky horror game with ps1 style graphics. play this if you like lighthouses, cosmic horrors and want to be stranded on tiny desolate island.

The Lighthouse Keeper - A Fairy Tale
There once was a lighthouse keeper. He worked very hard, day and night, and was happy with things as they were.
One day, he met a beautiful woman, and it wasn't long before they fell in love. But the happiness was not to last. The woman did not want to live in the lighthouse, far away from her family and friends; the lighthouse keeper didn't want to quit his job, nor was he able to, as ther was no one to take his place.
She accused him of not caring for her, and said how she couldn't be with a man she wouldn't even be able to spend time with - so she left. The lighthouse keeper, although, heartbroken, just went back to working as if nothing had happened.
The sea, however, sensed his inner turmoil and grew restless itself. The longer the lighthouse keeper's anguish lasted, the more agitated it became, until it got too dangerous for ships to leave the port. Tragedy struck when the lighthouse keeper's sorrow turned into anger, and everything came to an end.
First were the clouds, pushing in front of the sun and throwing the town into darkness so deep it almost seemed like nighttime.
Next, stormwinds the likes of which had never been witnessed before started up, bringing with them rain that felt like tiny needles on the skin.
And finally, the harbour was hit by waves higher than the highest building.
The water violently forced its way into the town, breaking down fences and walls, destroying buildings, and dragging anything not thoroughly anchored to the floor with it. People ran from their houses, trying to reach the higher parts of town, but not everyone got lucky.
The storm lasted all night, until the water, once hit by the first rays of the sun, retreated back to the sea. However, it took a large part of the town with it, leaving only ruins where buildings had been too close to the shore.
Many lives were lost that night, and even more people disappeared, most never to be seen again - the sea does not give up her dead.
The lighthouse keeper, too, vanished.
No one knew whether he had died in the storm, or if he left of his own free will. There was talk about him having thrown himself into the sea to join the woman he'd loved, other rumours accused him of having brought the storm down on them.
It took many, many years to rebuild what had been destroyed; what had been claimed by the sea had to be given up, a submerged graveyard of what once had been, and the people remained wary of both the sea and lighthouse keepers for a long time.

the thing is that I will never be satisfied with the number of dollhouses I have. a dollhouse for every situation. when I die they will turn my house into a small museum and let the children come and look at my dollhouses.
