In the following video, we can hear Miles Davis with his band consisting of George Duke on keyboards, Robben Ford on guitar, Bob Berg on saxophone, Adam Holzman (yes, that Adam Holzman) on synthesizer, Felton Crews on bass, Vincent Wilburn on drums and Steve Thornton on percussion, at the 1986 Montreux Festival, performing "Tutu". Enjoy!

"Tutu", named after the South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu, an advocate of human rights and social justice, reflecting Davis' commitment to exploring social and political issues through his music, is an album that does not leave the listener indifferent. Miles Davis "embraces" without any regard and overthrows once again all the concepts of what jazz "should" be. A man of melodic revolutions, Davis delves into the new technologies of the eighties, and fuses the sounds of his eternal trumpet with funk elements and a groove that transforms a legend of the forties into a musician at the forefront of what was being done in 1986, the year in which this album was released.

The multi-instrumentalist Marcus Miller, cousin of jazz legend Wynton Kelly, who played with Davis on the essential "Kind of Blue", on the album we can hear synthesizers, drum machines and everything mixed with a soul sound and even a revival of bebop, which gives this work the status of a contemporary classic. Along with a crop of new musicians with whom Miles began to work at the beginning of the decade, including Mike Stern, Bill Evans, John Scofield, Branford Marsalis, Omar Hakim, among others, Miles becomes one with the winds of change of each generation.

I don't know if you've answered this question before, but do you have favorite Phantom/Christine pairings?

I have answered it before, but not too recently, so maybe it's time to make a big ole updated masterpost of all my favorites as of now!

Keep in mind that if a name isn't on here, it doesn't mean they're not a favorite or whatever, it might just mean I never saw them with a Phantom or Christine I particularly liked (e.g. Gina Beck is an all-time favorite but she's not on here because I never really saw her opposite a Phantom I also really enjoyed) or I preferred a slightly different pairing (e.g. I really liked Franc D'Ambrosio with Lisa Vroman but I slightly preferred the latter with Brad Little). And there may be one or two where I could not decide at all (e.g. do I prefer Kelly Mathieson with David Thaxton or Josh Piterman? I can't tell!). Anyway, here they are:

Michael Crawford/Sarah Brightman - The OG cast. It can't be helped, they both had such unique takes on the role and it makes them one of the most memorable pairings for me.

Dave Willetts/Jan Hartley Morris - His rougher take on the mold that Crawford left vs. Jan Hartley Morris's old-school, classical Christine is a winner.

Mikael Samuelson/Elisabeth Berg - I love Samuelson's slightly harsher vocals compared to Berg's operatic tones.

Alexander Goebel/Luzia Nistler - Goebel is eerie, ghostly, and unhinged at the end; Nistler has a lovely classical voice and a scared, slightly naive take on her Christine. It fits well.

Davis Gaines/Tracy Shayne - Gaines is commanding, sensual, elegant; Shayne is innocent but with a touch of maturity that brings a certain uniqueness to the role.

Saulo Vasconcelos/Irasema Terrazas - Hands! I think both were allowed a lot of freedom in the role and it's great.

Hans Peter Janssens/Ineke van Klinken - Janssens is both very nuts and very sad while van Klinken is a reserved yet steely-willed Christine who is more than a match for him.

Ian Jon Bourg/Alison Kelly - Bourg is good with so many Christines, but I loved Alison Kelly's feistiness.

Michael Nicholson/Olivia Safe - Just a fascinating pairing, and they were both understudies!

Yoon Young Seok/Hye Kyoung Lee - It didn't matter that both were speaking Korean, they were so emotional that I felt like I understood every aspect of their performance.

Brad Little/Lisa Vroman - Kind of mentioned above, but I love how well these two act together.

Hugh Panaro/Julie Hanson - Hugh Panaro is a sarcastic jokester of a man and it makes you really feel for Julie Hanson's child-like Christine at the end of the show.

Gary Mauer/Elizabeth Southard - A real-life married E/C couple brings all the chemistry!

Earl Carpenter/Rachel Barrell - Barrell is also really good with JOJ, and more spirited around him, but I love Earl Carpenter more.

John Cudia/Jennifer Hope Wills - Oh the sparks these two brought to the role! Cudia was scary and dominating but JHW was absolutely able to hold her own against him.

Simon Pryce/Julie Goodwin - The voices of these two!

Marcus Lovett/Anna O'Byrne - Leroux-accuracy heaven.

Jeremy Stolle/Samantha Hill - Again, I've seen these two give fantastic performances with multiple performers, but I really do love what they bring to the show together.

Tomas Ambt Kofod/Sibylle Glosted - Very detailed, nuanced performances in a production that was full of it.

Jonathan Roxmouth/Meghan Picerno - There was fire between these two! Roxmouth was intent on bending Christine to his will but Picerno was so fiercely independent that you knew he could never succeed.

Jeon Dong Seok/Son Ji-soo - JDS is a swoon-worthy Phantom while SJS brought lovely expressions to the role.

And I'm sure there are many others...

19.11.2022 AT-Salzburg - Rockhouse

Einzelshow Salzburg heute. Durch die genialen letzten Wochen mit sehr vielen Shows, sind wir fast ein wenig verwöhnt und traurig, dass wir dieses Wochenende „nur“ eine Show spielen dürfen. Aber wenn man die letzten zwei Jahre betrachtet, dann ist „nur“ eine Show halt doch immer noch genau eine Show mehr, als wir z.B. 2020 insgesamt gespielt haben. Daher fahren wir also völlig happy und zufrieden nach Salzburg.

Auf der Fahrt freuen wir uns, dass die Berge immer höher werden und der Akzent innerhalb des Fahrzeuges immer mehr in Richtung Möchtegern-Österreichisch abdriftet. Wenn wir eins können, dann ist es Akzente absolut mittelmäßig nachmachen. Darin sind wir mit die Besten.

Unsere Mercherin Nova, die seit tatsächlich 19 Jahren mit uns drei Typen in Bussen durch die Gegend fährt, und ich beschließen heute, der hiesigen Mozartkugel aber sowas von dermaßen auf den Grund zu gehen. Wir wollen nicht geringeres schaffen, als die Beste Kugel der Welt zu finden. Mit etwas Vor-Recherche und jahrelangen Vor-Erfahrung mit Mozartkugeln in Mozarts Geburtsstadt, machen wir uns also auf den Weg in Richtung Altstadt und besuchen den ersten Ort auf unserer Liste, das Café Habakuk. Die Mozartkugel (eine kostet üppige 1,60€) besticht durch eine sehr knackige Außenhülle feinster Zartbitterschokolade. Dadurch schmeckt der erste Biss nicht direkt zu süß, sondern angenehm herb mit süßen Zweitnoten. Innen finden wir eine erstaunlich cremige Masse aus Pistazien und Marzipan vor, welche die Geschmacksknospen unserer Münder liebevoll umgarnt und den Gaumen ausfüllt. Der perfekt abgeschmeckte Nougat-Kern setzt dem ganzen die Mozartsche Krone auf.

Was für eine guter Beginn für unseren Test. Auf zur nächsten Station.

Um das ganze abzukürzen: Alle anderen danach getesteten Mozartkugeln schmecken wie die Billigen von Penny. Danke.

Salzburg ist eine echt wunderschöne Stadt. Es ist sogar schon Weihnachtsmarkt. Eigentlich ziemlich bezaubernd, hätten die Macher nicht den hässlichsten und krummsten Weihnachtsbaum aller Zeiten mitten ins Zentrum des Marktes gestellt. Etwas so jämmerlich unförmiges hab ich zuletzt beim Konzert in Zürich gesehen, als Max während der Show sein Oberteil ausgezogen hat.

Übrigens: was ich jedem nur empfehlen kann, bevor er oder sie die Stadt Salzburg besucht: Schaut euch davor den Film „Knight and Day“ mit Cameron Diaz und Tom Cruise an. Der spielt nämlich in der Altstadt von Salzburg und man erkennt dadurch all die Gassen aus dem Film sofort wieder. Außerdem erwartet man ständig, dass hinter jeder Ecke gleich Tom Cruise auftaucht und einen für Scientology rekrutieren will. Leider verpassen wir ihn scheinbar nur knapp.

Auf dem Weihnachtsmarkt treffe ich mich mit Marcus Smaller, seines Zeichens ehemaliger Frontmann der Band 3 Feet Smaller, mit denen wir vor fast 20 Jahren echt sehr sehr schöne und sehr sehr denkwürdige und sehr sehr betrunkene Konzerte und Abende verbracht haben. Mega, dass solche Freundschaften nicht abreissen. Nicht mal Tom Cruise könnte einen Keil zwischen uns treiben.

Zurück im Club machen wir drei Minuten Soundcheck, von welchen unser Tonmann Jonas bestimmt 2,5 Minuten auf jeweils einen von uns warten muss.

Abendessen gibt es wie immer im Rockhouse nebenan, wo eine super nette Omi für die Bands kocht. Die hat das tatsächlich schon vor 15 Jahren (!), bei unserem ersten Konzert in diesem Club für uns getan. Immer ein Traum dahin zurückzukommen.

Danach bekommen wir nochmal Besuch, dieses mal von unserem Lieblingsholländer, Tim Vantol. Vielleicht einer der besten Menschen überhaupt. Wir haben ihm mal ein eigenes Banner gemalt. Stilecht mit Wohnwagen darauf. Hat er bei der Show benutzt. Ehrenmann.

Vorband heute sind 7 Dials Mistery, die schon ein paar Mal bei uns in Salzburg den Opener gemacht haben. Stimmung direkt super und einer von denen macht während der Show sogar seiner Freundin einen Heiratsantrag. Wir wir danach erfahren versteht sie zwar wegen der Sound-Situation keinen Ton, sagt aber dennoch ja. Das ist, neutral betrachtet, um einiges besser als würde sie alles glasklar verstehen, aber dann nein sagen.

So, um kurz nach neun ist unsere Zeit gekommen und, auch wenn zwei Minuten vor Beginn des Intro ein Gitarrenkabel durchbricht (!), gehts direkt grandios los und Salzburg tanzt. Wie bei fast allen Shows dieser Tour sind auch heute mehr Leute da als beim letzten Mal, was entweder bedeutet, dass wir das letzte Mal etwas richtig gemacht haben, oder dass sich die Leute vom letzten Mal wegen der ganzen Sauferei nicht mehr an den Abend erinnern können und dieses Mal halt noch ein paar Freunde zum Saufen mitbringen. So oder so, ne super Sache!

Weil keiner von uns heute eine Frau im Saal hat, mit der er den Rest seines Leben verbringen möchte, wir uns aber von der Vorband nicht die Show stehlen lassen wollen, macht Max kurzerhand Panzer einen Heiratsantrag, welchen dieser freudig annimmt. Ich bin daraufhin sauer und traurig und vergesse beim nächsten Song trotzig wie die Strophe auf der Gitarre geht. Das haben sie davon.

Nachdem wir nach der Show mitbekommen, dass unsere Schlafplätze heute eher rustikalerer Natur sind, entschließen wir uns, sie uns luxuriös zu trinken. Hat geklappt. 5 Sterne Superior würde ich sagen.

Salzburg, danke. Café Habakuk, an euch kommt keiner ran. Panzer und Max, viel Erfolg und Toi Toi Toi in eurer Ehe.

Kisah Kepahlawanan Tak Terduga di Balik 'Lone Survivor'

Lone Survivor (2013) adalah film yang diadaptasi dari buku memoir oleh Marcus Luttrell, seorang mantan Navy SEAL yang selamat dari operasi militer yang gagal di Afghanistan pada tahun 2005. Film ini disutradarai oleh Peter Berg dan mengisahkan kepahlawanan, keberanian, dan persahabatan yang luar biasa di medan perang.

Latar Belakang Operasi

Operasi Red Wings adalah misi yang dirancang untuk menangkap atau membunuh pemimpin Taliban, Ahmad Shah, di daerah pegunungan Afghanistan yang sulit. Tim Navy SEAL yang terlibat terdiri dari Marcus Luttrell, Michael Murphy, Danny Dietz, dan Matthew Axelson.
