From Alicia in TWWHN to Kaan in On The Line... the vocal expansion of their talent is on rise... Please check them out on their soundcloud as well as their streams on www.twitch.tv/Moukeni! Feel free to say hi!
Jordan Alekzander Moore joins us this season as Howard!
Jordan is a voice actor from Memphis, TN doing primarily character work in animation and video games while also writing poetry and comedy.
Julian Dailey joins our haunting this season as one of the voices of Poltergeist 0. Dun dun dun. Julian's takes with Maritza made me GASP and they'll do the same when you hear them!!!
Julian Dailey is an afro-latino voice actor based in Pittsburgh, PA. He completed an Acting degree at Northwestern University and has studied under stage and voice actors alike, such as Scott Burns, Tommy Rapley, and Cassandra Lee Morris. Julian has been a featured voice on several shows including The Sheridan Tapes, Tales From the Fringes of Reality, and Tales of the Echowood. In his free time, you can find him sinking hours into video games and animated shows without blinking.
Kira Apple is back as our favorite incorrigible undead Narrator (and Mary... whose role deepens this season in an exciting, spoilery way).
Kira Apple is a part-time voice actor and full-time cat wrangler. Her voice work includes the role of Jack St. James in Superstition, Katya Harper in Electromancy, and Cybilene in Inn Between. A bookseller at Charis Books & More, the oldest independent feminist bookstore in the US South, Kira also volunteers at the PAWS Atlanta Cat Cottage and enjoys video games, reading romance, scifi, and fantasy, and playing TTRPGs.
We're so delighted Kirsty Woolven is returning as one of the voices of The Apartment AND the voice of Fidelia!
Kirsty Woolven is a voice actor based in the Midlands. You can hear them in several audiodrama podcasts such as: The Secret of St Kilda, Apollyon, Devoid of Space, Shadows At The Door and The Sheridan Tapes. When not in the booth, they can be found on stage, playing Animal Crossing or writing! For more info, their website is at: https://kirstywoolven.carrd.co/
Lindsay Zana is returning as Danny, who has quite the character arc this season!
Lindsay is an LA based actor and singer with a love for Shakespeare, Musicals and audio dramas. When she's not emoting behind a microphone, she can be found singing with Top Shelf Vocal, filming self-tapes, or chilling with her husband and puppy.
Madi Opincaru joins us this season as City Ghost and Poltergeist 5!
Madi loves giving voice to a variety of characters in podcasts, games and animations, with occasional dabbing into narration. When she's not recording she enjoys playing D&D and indie games, reading and napping with her cats.
Maria Corcobado joins us this season as FF House Ghost 3 and FF House (those pesky abbreviations again! You'll have to listen to find out what they're for).
Trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art: Mary Shelly (Bloody Poetry), Duckling Smith (Our Country's Good). Winner of the Lilian Baylis Award. Classical roles include: Lady Macbeth (Macbeth), Titania (Midsummers Night Dream) Chorus (Henry V). Nominated for Voiceover Newcomer of the Year at the One Voice Awards 2022. Radio work includes: Let's Write a Story (Radio 3), Something Understood (Radio 4). Recent Audio Work: Ignited Melodies (Audible), Nya (Department of Variance of Somewhere, Ohio), Monogabliss (Kolbold Blue Productions).
Maritza Rodriguez voiced Ylena last season, and she's back this season as one of the voices of Poltergeist 0. I CACKLED with horrified glee when I heard her and Julian's takes. STAY TUNED!!!
Maritza's bio is short and on point: Bringing art and creativity into the world one step at a time!
Marlon Dance-Hooi joins us this season as Chief Inspector Turnbubble!
Marlon is a Eurasian Australian Actor and Voice-over Artist. He has been performing in some form or other since early childhood. His breakout role in the King and I (alongside the legendary Hayley Mills) instilled a love of the craft and a passion for theatre. He continued on stage in multiple South Australian productions throughout high school and college, and after completing degrees in Arts and Law embarked upon a professional acting career. Moving to Sydney and then Singapore, he worked on everything from live theatre and Fringe shows to feature films and television, appearing on four Singaporean TV series and several award winning short films. Throughout this period he worked tirelessly on his craft, tutored by working actors Sam Haft, Chum Ehelopola and Kamil Haque and learning Meisner, Adler, Chekov, Improv, Suzuki and Meyerhold techniques. Marlon is also a skilled impressionist and has lent his smooth, articulate and versatile voice to 8 animated series, including the award-winning Netflix show Oddbods, and several animated feature films, in addition to dozens of ads, corporate videos, podcasts and animated shorts. In his spare time he is an avid roleplayer, creating fantasy worlds, as well as a fan of manga and speculative fiction.
Mary-Anne Stanek joins us this season as Sister Prudence (a character who is pure delight, in my book).
Mary-Anne is a student, part-time tutor and voice actress based in South-Western France.
Michelle Sellers joins us this season as Tricia.
Michelle Sellers is a voice actor based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Before voice over, she was an infectious disease research scientist but a disability took her out of the lab and into the studio. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family doing most anything as long as they are there. You can find her on Twitter @VO_Bowtiekitty
Please help make them all welcome, and if you can share our crowdfunding campaign:

That all changes when a handsome, brooding bestselling author enters her bookstore. And he takes a sudden interest in her. Through steps forward and back, Rory takes control of her destiny and the scars she bore on herself and learns an important lesson- that below the surface, there can be enough darkness to shroud a lifetime, but all it takes is to leave a light on.

tv show:
tinga tinga! tales from africa~
slides to you a library list that says books i read or reading:
i went with lover to a smaller bookstore but still on the bougie business block. a nook they had beanbag chairs setup. she had her heart set on sapphic literature, while i browsing for a memior, something social but not necessarily a sappy romance, and a writing style i found "digestible". the book seller passed it by. i took a gander, a look, "indigenous peoples history of the united states". though some may find this content too differing of their thoughts of the united states, my head did not spin. some of the worser truths i parsed carefully about while sipping myself a luke-warm coffee.
trevor noah's memior. i read in its entirety already.
articles of prydain. (lloyd alexander).
"stars beneath our feet" for young readers so theres fewer details. its a historical fiction about a young black boy living in memphis.
"inquisitors apprentice" book 1. library find. a detailed historical fiction about a teenage jewish kid navigating (various social systems of) new york city, unraveling mystery of witches and a nod to steampunky science fiction and watson's accounts of sherlock the detective.
the house on mango street. vinyettes. (sandra cisneros) i'd like to read the spanish version.
"bad kitty vs uncle murray" (nick bruel) comic book where murry learns how to babysit a scaredy cat and if you like repetition skit humor its funny. my mom ordered this one online.
(if only i understood people bodylanguage like i do a cat's!)
"peace, (kids book)"comprised by mary anderson. collection of quotes about peace. i read this in 5th grade.

this is coming from a place of ignorance on my part. But did people call elvis a “groomer” before he died? If not, I always find it very suspicious when someone gets a bad reputation only after they’re dead. Because they are no longer around to defend themselves.
i don't think they used that word, but people did get on his ass about priscilla being so young like- in real time while they were getting together and while they were together. i don't remember off the top of my head who, but i remember reading in some book or article that one of the memphis mafia members essentially asked if he was trying to get them all in trouble with the jailbait around when they first met. very much paraphrasing bc i don't remember the exact quote, but i know the concept of him going to jail was joked about.
and the tabloids of yore called her his live in lolita doll, which is a part of why they got married when they did bc it *was* starting to hurt his reputation. i'm not someone who thinks they didn't truly love each other and didn't want to be married, but more than one thing can be true at once. he loved her, *and* he was feeling some pressure from the public via his team to make her his wife so it "looked better" to the public.
entertainment gossip of yore is soo fascinating to me, i have a book that's essential a compilation of tabloids from old hollywood that i found at a used bookstore and it's my baby.

OWL Fest: Building Home Libraries Together
Tumblr media
Curated Bookstore and Reading Event
In a bid to enhance early literacy and build home libraries, the Governor's Early Literacy Foundation (GELF) joins hands with the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) to introduce Opportunities with Literacy (OWL) Fest. This unique event, set to travel to 31 Priority elementary schools across Tennessee in September, offers a curated bookstore and shopping experience for students. OWL Fest allows students to select high-quality books to take home, free of charge, with the aim of boosting reading proficiency and fostering a culture of reading.   A Lifeline for Literacy in Tennessee Tennessee faces a literacy challenge, with only 40% of its 3rd graders reading proficiently. Priority schools, in particular, grapple with reading proficiency rates ranging from 22-38%. Recognizing the profound impact of home libraries on academic success, vocabulary development, and career attainment, GELF's OWL Fest aims to bridge this gap by providing students with the opportunity to bring books into their homes.   Student-Centric Book Selection Research from the Scholastic Kids & Family Reading Report™ underscores the importance of students selecting their books. A staggering 92% of children report that their favorite books are the ones they've chosen themselves, and 93% are more likely to complete a book they've personally selected. OWL Fest embraces this approach, allowing Pre-K through 5th-grade students to choose 6-8 books that resonate with their interests and preferences.   Building Home Libraries Year-Round OWL Fest is part of GELF's K-3 Home Library program, designed to bolster home libraries and combat learning loss by delivering books to students and teachers each summer. In 2023 alone, the program distributed a remarkable 1.2 million books to over 200,000 students, teachers, librarians, and media specialists across the state, including Priority schools.   Shaping a Literate Future James Pond, a spokesperson for GELF, shares the organization's vision: "Our goal is to promote a culture of reading in Tennessee by meeting students where they are with the books and resources they need to become lifelong learners. Through OWL Fest, we are bringing a book shopping experience, without the cost barrier, to students who may not have this kind of opportunity." "We want to give students the freedom to choose their books, call them their own, and get excited about reading. It's more than books. It's the future of Tennessee."   Empowering Tennessee's Young Readers Lizzette Reynolds, Commissioner of Education, emphasizes the significance of reading proficiency: "Teaching children how to read, and how to read well, is one of the most important things we can do to set them up for success in their education, in college and career, and in life. Thanks to our partners at GELF, students across the state have access to free books through OWL Fest to help them become strong readers."   Scholastic's Commitment to Literacy Amanda Alexander, Chief Academic Officer at Scholastic, expresses the company's pride in supporting GELF's mission: "Scholastic is proud to continue the critical work with GELF to ensure children have access to books that they are excited about reading this school year and beyond."   School District Leaders Praise OWL Fest To develop effective support for Priority schools, GELF actively sought input and feedback from school district leaders who understand the vital importance of literacy. Dr. Thomas Rogers, Assistant Superintendent of Memphis-Shelby County Schools, says, "Literacy is life and the bedrock to all other subjects. OWL Fest has helped us to align and recommit ourselves to early and ongoing literacy for all students, regardless of the zip code." Dr. Terrence D. Brittenum, iZone Instructional Leadership Director (ILD) - Zone 10 of Memphis-Shelby County Schools, adds, "OWL Fest has facilitated our schools in prioritizing literacy by providing the resources to do so. Through the OWL Fest initiative, we will continue to support our schools by increasing students' access to grade-appropriate texts and evidence-based literacy instruction."   Prioritizing Priority Schools OWL Fest receives support from federal funding aimed at promoting literacy in Priority schools designated by TDOE for the 2021-2022 school year. Priority schools, also known as Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) schools, represent the lowest-performing five percent of schools in the state due to sustained low academic performance. Below is a list of participating Priority schools that OWL Fest will visit in September: Achievement School District - Memphis Scholars Caldwell-Guthrie - Cornerstone Prep Lester Campus - Journey Coleman School Hamilton County School District - Orchard Knob Elementary - Hardy Elementary School - Calvin Donaldson Environmental Science Academy - Hamilton County Virtual School Jackson-Madison County School District - Jackson Career Technology Magnet - Lincoln Elementary School Knox County School District - Green Magnet Math And Science Academy - Maynard Elementary Metro-Nashville School District - Bellshire Elementary - Ida B. Woods Academy of Innovation - Memphis Scholars South Campus - Hanley Elementary
Aiming to Make a Difference, One Book at a Time
OWL Fest underscores the commitment of GELF and TDOE to enhance literacy outcomes in Priority schools, offering students access to the transformative power of books, one page at a time.   Sources: THX News & Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation. Read the full article

Cooking  Feast on recipes, food writing and culinary inspiration from Sam Sifton and NYT Cooking.
Not too many cooks, but just enough: There are 75 of them — chefs, farmers and Indigenous home cooks — that have contributed recipes to this collaboration between the United Nations and Kitchen Connection Alliance, a nonprofit that seeks to improve systems for growing and distributing food worldwide. Sustainability and healthy eating are front and center. There are five recipe sections covering food systems, biodiversity, sustainable consumption, food and climate change, and food waste. Among the stellar recipes in the generally vegetable-forward collection are Moroccan chorba with eggplant and sweet potato; a simple squash soup from the American Black Créole Community; Austrian potato goulash; and venison carpaccio with watercress salad, suitable for a party buffet. The carbon footprints are given only for the recipes in the climate change chapter; though they have them for the other recipes. And as comprehensive as this book might be, there is no recipe index and almost no reference to buying organic, though “sustainably sourced” is advised for seafood and eggs. Proceeds from sales benefit the development of a children’s version of the book and support the U.N. Bookstore and projects with Indigenous communities.
“The Cookbook in Support of the United Nations: For People & Planet,” Under the Direction of Earlene Cruz at Kitchen Connection Alliance (Kitchen Connection, $29.00).
Amp Up Your Thanksgiving Gravy
Tumblr media
There are myriad methods for turning pale, thin turkey gravy into a lustrous, nut-brown, velvet-textured sauce. Commonplace thickeners include cold water slurries of flour or cornstarch stirred in and brought to a simmer, the latter resulting in a more translucent result. For color, you can resort to a splash of Worcestershire or soy sauce. But there is another way, which adds umami in addition to richer texture and deeper color: red miso. Use about a tablespoon for two cups of gravy, perhaps made from degreased pan drippings and homemade turkey stock, but taste as you go; the miso can be salty. Red miso is handy to have on hand for enriching sauces, soups and stews. Keep it in the refrigerator — it will long outlast the appliance’s warranty.
A History of the ‘Vous
Tumblr media
For more than 70 years in Memphis, Tenn., the Rendezvous, a restaurant familiarly known as the ‘Vous, has been a magnet for barbecue lovers. It was founded by Charles Vergos, who was Greek, and is still family-owned, now into the second and third generations. It was notable not just for pit-smoked ribs, but for its longtime waiters, their personalities and excellent service. It’s now the subject of a compelling new documentary, “The ‘Vous,” narrated by several members of its mostly Black staff, including Percy Norris, Jack Dyson and Calvin Bell, who tell the story of the restaurant and its owners from its inception through the Jim Crow era, the civil rights movement and up to the present. The film was made, in part, to preserve memories of the staff, many of whom have retired or soon will.
“The ‘Vous,” directed by Jack Porter Lofton and Jeff Dailey, a Mudroom film produced by Ruth Whitney and Pat O’Brien, streaming through Sunday on DOC NYC, www.docnyc.net, $12.
A Boozy Taste of Autumn
Tumblr media
Adding a little of Heimat New York’s new Barrel-Finished Bosc Pear Liqueur to a premeal glass of bubbly gives it a touch of rustic fruit flavor that suits the season. Small pours of the liqueur, straight, become a lovely digestif worth considering for Thanksgiving dinner’s finale. The liqueur, at 22 percent alcohol and macerated from Hudson Valley pears, is aged for 13 months in bourbon barrels from Brooklyn’s Kings County Distillery. The result is a pale russet-toned liqueur, a little cloudy on purpose, with a mouth-filling viscosity. The bouquet captures the fruit, the essence of which lingers on the palate.
Heimat New York Barrel-Finished Bosc Pear Liqueur, $25.99 for 375 milliliters at Wine Bazaar in New Rochelle, New York, winebazaar.com.
A Holiday Cooking Roundtable
Tumblr media
Rose Levy Beranbaum’s latest baking book is “The Cookie Bible,” and in the run-up to the holidays she will be giving a virtual talk and a demonstration of one of her favorite treats, tahini crisps, for the Roundtable series at the 92nd Street Y. She also plans to discuss baking ingredients in general, the properties of different flours, using weight versus volume measurements and how eggs have changed.
Tahini Crisps by Rose Levy Beranbaum, Roundtable by the 92nd Street Y, New York, Dec. 1 at 6:30 p.m., $35, roundtable.org.
