I don't know if you seen on xitter about a person who tweeted about the age gap between michael and anna and how that person don't agree with it etc etc . Then the fans who literally obsessed with anna or blind too see what really happening in the relationship and always come up defensive when people have an opinion like they go in for the attack. But they seem to have forgotten that anna was pregnant and that why they got into a relationship. It wasn't cos they was in love or wanted to be together they decided to make it work cos of the situation anna was in. And 6 years on the relationship still looks like it not working out michael still has the awarkness and sad face when he pictured with anna, when michael is pictured or with his daughters or other ppl his face is beaming, happy, smiling.

I honestly wish these fans would stop giving out misformation out to new fans or just ppl cos that is not what happened.

Hi, Anon. I've been at a conference all day, but I have had people DMing me and letting me know what has happened.

To summarize: A teenager wrote a tweet about being uncomfortable with age gap relationships and mentioned Michael and Anna specifically (though they stated they did not have a problem with David and Georgia). This then led to a number of Michael's fans--adults, mind you--piling on and attacking this girl. All of this started yesterday, continued into today, and has now culminated in that teenager having messages sent to her DMs telling her to kill herself.

I am not going to link to any of the tweets publicly, as I have no desire to add any fuel to the fire. But to say that the behavior in the fandom today has been appalling is a massive understatement. It is NEVER, ever okay to send someone death threats or tell someone to kill themselves for any reason, least of all in the name of defending a relationship between two complete strangers.

Again, this person was not calling Michael or Anna names. She did not tag either one of them in her tweets or engage in harassment of any kind (and if she had, that would absolutely not have been acceptable and I would have no problem calling it out). The only thing she did was to say how she felt uncomfortable, and explain why. She had an opinion that people didn't like. And this was enough to set the fandom alight and tear apart a teenager with an account that has barely a hundred followers.

The other thing, too, is that in the past, Michael has made no secret of how he feels about people using him as an excuse to attack others:

It stands to reason, then, that if Michael thought he needed to defend Anna or their relationship, that he would very readily do it himself. It's likely he would not even have any idea of this teenager's tweets had it not been for the fandom drawing so much attention to it in the first place, so the odds of him even knowing about it went up substantially just because of all this uproar.

I'm also wondering why anyone would want to be a fan of someone who would be okay with or even encourage their fans defending them by telling people to kill themselves. Is that who they think Michael is? (Or, Anna, for that matter?) Because I truly do not think Michael would be the person we all admire so greatly if he was okay with that.

It's also not lost on me that some fans are in effect rewriting history by talking about Michael and Anna's relationship as if we know how they met, when neither one of them have ever actually mentioned it. To be clear, this is not saying that they owe anyone an explanation of when/how they met, but the automatic assumptions fans are making do not necessarily have a basis in reality, and could possibly even be hurtful to Michael or Anna if they do not accurately represent their relationship. Especially when Michael himself has said that her pregnancy was a surprise, and they both decided to try to make it work (which suggests a very different narrative to "They met and fell in love and chose each other, the end").

All that said, the point underscoring everything that has happened in the last day is that if--as many folks have insisted--Michael and Anna's relationship is perfect and they are madly in love, why do they need to be defended? Shouldn't the truth already be obvious, without having to be stated? And why should one random teenager on Twitter not liking the relationship be such a threat to their relationship?

In any case, today was a perfect example of what happens when people escalate instead of de-escalate, and how dangerous that "hive mind" fandom mentality can truly be. Yet given the blind item yesterday and then this person writing what they did, it seems like a lot of the knee-jerk reactions are belying what some fans may actually be feeling...

im gonna start posting fanfic recs btw whenever i find good ones. both here and my (awfully barren) 18+ account. because there are so many good fics out there with so few hits and fewer kudos and sometimes no comments period and it SUCKS because i REALLY LIKE THEM A LOT.. and i hope that by linking them here and yelling at everyone to COMMENT DAMMIT they might actually do it

seriously though any comment means a lot. most people who read a fic don’t even give a kudos. even if the fic wasn’t top tier, if you didn’t dislike it, hand over some kudos!! and if you liked it, comment!!!! even if the comment is one singular heart emoji it will be appreciated. if the comment just says “great fic!” the author will be happy. your comment doesn’t have to be this long winded gushing or analysis.

so many authors quit writing or lose motivation because the comments are few and far in between or just sometimes nonexistent. trust me when i say authors don’t care about how long or cool or smart sounding your comment is i promise!!!

i hope that mmmaybe recommending fics and telling people to comment might help fics i really like get more support maybe. and i, points at you reading this, hope that you will listen!!!at least a little….at least sum kudos….

truthfully i have no idea if this blog is coming out of hiatus because i frankly don’t read enough fanfic anymore to be able to keep up with posting 3 screenshots a day and i wouldn’t get enough submissions to maintain it

i just checked i’ve had 84 screenshots taken since november last year (so would last only 36 days) and i was getting a little tired of forcing myself to read fanfic for the blog - i haven’t read fics in so long 💔💔

funny-ish story y’all know dear-ao3? i once read a year or two back that they stopped reading fanfic at some point and just started relying on submissions and i was so confused as to how but here i am now not reading fanfic turns out the answer to getting rid of the addiction was just force yourself to do it it makes everything less enjoyable

Oh, quite funny indeed, Anon. It doesn't seem to be an accident at all that people on social media are talking about what David said about Aziraphale and Crowley at the Con yesterday, and then suddenly Anna makes this post. (Screenshot below as well, for anyone who hasn't seen it...)

If you take a look at the caption, this is all clearly promotion for Nye, as Rufus Norris is the co-director of the new run for which Michael is now in rehearsals.

Shortly after posting this, Anna also reshared a clip from Michael's appearance on the Assembly, as if to somehow make up for ignoring it and posting nothing when the show won a "Media Moment" award last month. (And not posting about Michael being named as part of Time's 100 Philanthrophy list, or the release of his children's book, or the WNT finding a home in Swansea...) Anna also reshared the new Nye rehearsal photos that were released today...again, not really feeling like a coincidence, and only seems to further underline the exact purpose of this post.

(Let's also not pass by the "mum and dad" mention, which seems to be the sum total of their relationship these days. And feels like yet another instance of Anna copying Georgia to deliberately pander to the fan base...)

But yes, as you said, Anon, Michael's face certainly seems to be telling another story. I wish folks would look just at him in this picture, for a moment:

One week ago, he looked like this, and he looked like this in a video from just a few days ago--twinkly and soft as he always is, as we've come to know of him. We recognize Michael's "happy" and can point it out in multiple pictures. In this new picture, there is a distinct and noticeable lack of that twinkliness and softness. So if we say that Michael looks tired, or unhappy here, then it should not matter who else is in the picture. If we recognize Michael's tired/unhappy expression from other pictures, then it becomes no less the case and doesn't suddenly not exist just because he is in a picture with Anna.

It's also that this goes right back to something I said the other day...that Michael and Anna are doing little more than standing and breathing next to each other, and everyone falls all over themselves exclaiming about "couple goals." In the photo with Bronwen, however, Michael looks present and in the moment--he's taking a picture where he is happy to be there. But with Anna, he's just there, waiting for the picture to be taken. And those are very much two different things...

So yes, it does seem like these posts today are all for the sake of promotion/seizing on the moment of high social media engagement because of David's panel. This is hardly the first time this has happened, either, so...the patterns are still patterning...

Shueisha color teasers dropped! thoughts on the pallettes?

Okay quick rundown of what I think!

I think Jodio and Dragona look the best, I’m glad they kept Jodio’s colours, and Dragona looks more or less what I expected!

Though I’m not in love with the orange outfit for dragona, I think green or purple would have looked way better! Paco is fine, though I think his hair should have been a dirty blonde.

And I’m so sorry Usagi enjoyers, he’s a lost cause, they made him tingle. They feared to let him slay, they debuffed him. It almost looks alright but then they made the hat neon blue,,, should of been at least red to at least compliment just a lil

I think everyone else’s colours are fine! Though kinda just standard, and I do love November rain, I won with him having blue!! (Looks like weather report which is super cool)

Tbh I can get use to these colours, EVEN though I’ll probably still use the colour palettes I’ve been using, not like Shueisha colours are canon, It’s disappointing they just used palettes from certain Araki paintings over trying to make their own decisions on palettes

Jodio is fine, seeing Araki used it multiple times so it feels like that is what Jodio is supposed to look like, but taking from a painting where the whole point is to be one certain colour scheme, where everyone matches (Araki does these types of paintings a lot) feels somewhat misguided and will make Dragona, Paco and Usagi blend together and while Jodio will stand out.

I feel like there should be more variety of colours amongst the group, similar to how Golden Winds cast are all defined by one colour. I felt like it was too soon to give them colours, but again maybe I’ll warm up to them,

Why do the FEH devs insist on ignoring Nabatean lore so much?

I recently had a surprisingly cordial discussion on redshit with someone about the "nabateans = colonisers" take, and one of the main points raised was that the game was purposedly foggy around Nabateans/Sothis/their story because it would obviously favor a certain narrative (and thus make another narrative look, uh, not that marketable anymore).

To be honest, we still ended up with a product that had a lead go "this race and its blood* is the reason why the world sucks" and yet that lead is still marketable enough to have raunchy cipher cards and 5 FEH alts, so I actually wonder if, while pissing on that lore had that purpose, it was ultimately pointless since Supreme Leader can still sell goodies despite her incarnation in FE16.

And not only Supreme Leader - but the entirety of WC where we basically have 70% of the cast crying/complaining about their "mixed blood" or lack of and basically adding their 10 cents to the "this race and its blood is the reason why the world sucks".

I mean, can you imagine Sylvain selling any goodies and alts if Flayn replied to his "wah wah people only are kind to me and want to fuck me because I have Nabatean blood :(" by some uncharacteristic "good for you, I have to hide my ears, had to dye my hair, have to lie about my family because if the truth is found out about my identity, I will be hunted and vivisected like an animal and harvested for parts by people who call my kin abominations - just like what happens in the game where the same people who call my kin "abominations" ally with a classmate who calls me a creature and pretends I am incapable of human feelings based on my race".

FE Fodlan's main selling point is its cast of students, for various reasons, but even if I tried to kid myself, Nopes and FEH made it clears : students are the main selling point.

If you spare more time and attention to the Nabatean plot/lore, the students either grow from "likeable" to "despicable" or worse, you won't gaf about them because yeah sure, Hilda might be upset because people expect things from her due to her crust, but it would feel like a "peanut" compared to Seteth's irrational (granted, it's not so irrational since GW exists) fear that Flayn's newest friends would dissect her if they learnt she was a Nabatean, and being conflicted by finally letting her have human friends and form bonds she crave, or protect her due to the trauma from the genocide of their species.

Don't get me wrong, I love peanuts, I mean, not everyone can have a tragik of loaded backstory!

And yet, given how this verse's DNA is "can you fight against the red emperor who uwus about you", they had to add copious amounts of Earl Grey to their games so there's no clear-cut factions :

The "Your alien blood and its influence on the world corrupted it, so I want to reform it under my command" vs "I don't want to die and you oppose me due to my race and side with the people who genocided my kin"

is turned to :

"Your alien blood Crests and its your church's influence on the world corrupted it, so I want to reform it under my command"

"I don't want to die and you oppose me due to my race and side with the people who genocided my kin"

Sprinkle with the cast's hammering here and there that the "reforms" might be needed - but never develop on what they are - and add a few baseless and groundless takes as a toping (basically everything Claude says about tolerance and the general "isolationism/foreign policy" stuff) and you get FE Fodlan where the Red Emperor's war isn't seen as the catastrophe it is in the other entries from the series!

Now, for FEH...

FWIW, the F!F!Billy's trailer had them try to explain that Sothis was a bit pissed about her slaughtered/massacred children when Nopes never gave any reason about why she was pissed - maybe on Billy's behalf bcs Jerry's dead, but come on, she would indeed deserve the medal of the worst parent in the franchise if that was the case, since Billy can murder her daughter without Sothis taking over ! - but given that they cannot write/go against the source game those characters are from.

They tried a bit, with B!Supreme Leader and Hegemongard's FB, but then it stopped (because she had no "new unit" released since then lol) and I can understand why : Hegemongard came out before the Supreme Emblem, and Hegemongard hates dragons who are seen/perceived as gods by some of their human followers. Come FE17, and now Supreme Emblem accepts Alear because they are "one of the good ones". We can come up with HCs and details and talk about what are emblems or if Hegemongard's views were only hers at the end of AM all day long... But imo, Doylist wise, it still feels it's a retcon because the devs from the main games tried to scrap and remove the most "controversial" traits she had.

For the other characters... Well, you see what Marianne is in FEH (but even in her base games), she's one of the few characters who reacts - in a way - to the partial history about relics and demonic beasts and all... only to give sad uwus to Maurice.

FE16 (and Nopes) refused to have any "student" character react to the Nabatean lore/reveal, about what are relics and all. There are no lines, Claude shared some knowledge in the explore section of VW's last chapter, but we don't have anyone muse or think or even talk about what are relics, what are crests, and what kind of fuckery their ancestors or the ancient humans of Fodlan did.

With that in mind, FEH can't do much : either they write Marianne in a retcon-y way like what happened for Hegemongard (and they're not afraid to piss on characterisation, look at Lyon!), or they flanderise her "character" and develop her around 3 lines she had in the game in her paralogue, and continue to give sad uwus about Momo when he was at best a guy who slaughtered and murdered so much that he abused the Nabatean turned into a relic to the point where he turned in a demonic beast even if he had a matching crest, or at worst, had been part of Nemesis's piñata party in Zanado and was something of a genocider.

Tldr :

Why FE Fodlan never gaf about Nabateans : earl grey + the marketable cast has to stay marketable and you can't sell peanuts at the same price you'd sell swordfish

Why FEH dgaf about Nabatean lore : they can't afford to retcon characters + they have to sell peanut alts with the same seasoning they had in their base game.

For what it's worth though, I think FEH is more daring than the base game(s) given how they gave more lines and screentime to Rhea - through her different alts - than GW. And they even designed her Halloween!alt's lines to piss on some of Claude's assertions, while the various FB involving members of the church also - indirectly - reply to some accusations thrown their way in FE16 when, FE16, never gave them an opportunity or lines to explain that those takes were full of dung.

It's highly debatable, especially given what she and Hubert throw to Billy in CF - but even if she doesn't, Doylist wise we still have a character who, knowingly or not, says "this race and its blood* is the reason why the world sucks" and who is never called out on her prejudice. That's more of an issue regarding the general writing though, she has to be a red emperor and took pages from Ashnard's book, and yet, the player must still feel bad and want to romance her, so her mindest/goal cannot be looked at too closely, because, I guess, even the devs thought it would be difficult to romance her (thus sell goodies!) if more light was shed on the "blood from this race corrupts our people" schtick -> which in turn would also make characters whose backstory and gimmick rely on "crying about crests" be way less likeable, thus marketable and able to sell goodies.
