Since the minute you got to know Auston he made your teeth itch. It also didn’t help that you were the equipment manager. So every home game you knew you were in for the classic A.M Charm.

Auston does this little thing where he tries to flirt with you hoping to get your number. And you respond to him with an ego hindering comment,an eye roll and a smirk.

Today was a home game against the New Jersey Devils. That means skates sharpened, blades replaced, jerseys hung, sticks taped. You were in charge of making sure the boys had a smooth transition to the ice.

“ Morning Sweetheart” Auston said holding the door of the locker room.

“ Bite me Matthews” you replied coldly entertaining the door he held open

“ OOF! Someone’s is a spicy mood this morning. You are lucky I’m half Mexican” Auston says with a wink

“ I like Spicy” Auston continued following behind you

“ Do you get a kick out of flirting with me? Or are you just dumb?” You said light heartedly

“ Well a little bit of both”Auston said with a smile as he took a seat at his cubby.

No one else was in the locker room at this time usually. But this morning you and Auston wounded up together. The silence between you two was comfortable, so you took the opportunity to fold and put up freshly washed towels. As you walked from the laundry room to the towel shelf, Auston’s eyes kept following your every step.

“ what are you getting at?” You said catching onto his proposal

“ What I mean is give me one date to truly get to know me. If the date goes wrong I’ll leave you alone, but if it goes well, I want to take you out again” Auston said with confidence.

You took a moment to think about your options. Maybe you did judge Austons a little too hard, but you had valid reasons. Women throw themselves at him on a daily basis. He could get any woman he wants and yet he bothers you. He could throw money at anything he wants. He gets what he wants, when he wants, how he wants it. To you that was the blueprint for jackasses , podcasts bros, and men who don’t respect respect women.

☆ Everytime Matt wins he cheers on the rink, hugs his teammates then skates off the ice to immediately go over to find you, racing over just to hug or kiss you

☆ Whenever Matt loses at match he's usually pretty hard on himself, complaining to you about everything he could've done better and that he wasn't doing good enough. You follow up with praises for him to tell him how good of a player he is and not to let one bad match get the best of him

☆ Just like Matt, you have some of your own meaningful tattoos, one being a 4 on the inside of your index finger to represent his jersey number

☆ Matt has many fangirls, some love flirting with him when he's saying hi before or after a game to his fans. Whenever you seem jealous of the attention he was getting from other girls, which was rare since normally you're just happy everyone's supportive even if it's for your boyfriends looks, he reminds you that your his "favorite girl" and that those girls couldn't even compare to you. ☆ Everytime Matt has to go away for a game, since you're so close to the coach, team, and staff they allow you to come with, always sharing a bunk on the bus with Matt as his team gets hyped up for a new game and city

☆ Before every game you always give Matt a pep talk, but once he's in the locker room, you send him a small paragraph of how proud you are of him and that he's going to do great, not to worry, and to just try his best.

☆ Whenever Matt is upset about a lose, you'll do whatever he wants or asks for, no matter the request.

☆ Your hair is always style for a game, you put it in something new each time, even using bows or gold cuff rings to put in your braids (pick whichever depending on your hairtype I tried to add both) which Matt always finds adorable and will shower you in compliments

☆ Matt and you throw parties for the teams after each season, going to the house you have together in Boston - along with Chris and Nick who refuse to live away from Matt which you never minded - to celebrate a season win or lose for the hardwork everyone puts in

☆ For most games, if Chris and Nick decided to come (wake up), you would drive them to Matt's game with you, they'll usually be sat exactly next to you for the game, gossiping about the other team or how good Matt is doing

☆ You're close to both Chris and Nick of course, they'll always text you to ask how Matt is doing during games and if you wanted them to come and join whenever their free (which you gladly accept)

So this is kind of random and possibly not cohesive, but I’m curious about your thoughts.

Since the church spoiler was posted (and before that too), I’ve seen a lot of BoB’s convinced that Eddie is going to have a Catholic guilt storyline related to his sexuality.

But personally, my experience with 911 is that it is quite a pro-religious show? Like, not in a bad way. As someone who is agnostic and skeptical about the portrayal of religion in American media, I actually feel like religion is respectfully portrayed, and it is a source of strength for religious characters, not bigotry or division.

I also think that Eddie is being set up to find his faith in the next season, not lose it - between Bobby giving Eddie his book (Icr if it was a bible or something else), the nun stuff, and the scenes in the church while Eddie is feeling alone and at rock bottom.

So, while I’m not saying it’s impossible for Eddie to have some kind of reckoning with his faith (although I don’t think that’s going to have anything with his sexuality), I would be surprised if the show were to really have a storyline that portrayed Catholicism in a negative light, especially when it’s been such a positive thing for Bobby.

I also think it would be potentially be decisive among the general audience. Like I would assume the audience skews left, given the number of queer and POC characters and gags about Trump, but it seems likely that a fair few viewers are religious and I can’t see the show wanting to alienate that audience.

Anyway, I’m curious on your thoughts on this, if you have any particular opinions.

I think you're right. Because the show has always shown religion or even just the idea that there's something bigger than us out there, (see miracles, curses, etc) I can't see them taking a religion, especially Catholic religion, and spinning it into a commentary on sexuality in religious families.

Sometimes it amazes me that the show made Bobby Catholic, seeing as there's a very huge taboo out in the world about that religion and what is and isn't acceptable. But because they have the added elements of queer representation along with a wide variety of poc I do think the show skates the line in a very lovely way.

Bobby isn't out here trying to convert the team to his religion or even convert queer friends to realize their "sins." He simply has faith, and confession is a very important part of his healing process. Which is the path Eddie needs to venture down.

Many anons have discussed this and I'm not going to dive in too much but having Catholic guilt does not instantly mean it revolves around impure thoughts or confusion on who or what you are.

Eddie has guilt that we've seen. He's let his kid down. He's ran away from his problems. He allows anger to rationalize a lot of his decisions. He's mad at Shannon for dying. He's mad at himself for not appreciating the life he had before she left.

And he needs to work through that. Eddie cannot move forward until he accepts responsibility of his actions and forgives himself.

The audience wants to see this and showing a character, like Eddie, understanding his actions but also knowing he's not perfect is a representation I'm not sure we've seen much of.

vinesh phogat was recently disqualified for being 0.1 kg overweight at the olympics. its always a bummer when a athelete from your country get benched due to white euro centric sports criteria. these same shit heads can excuse steven van de velde who was convicted of raping a 12 year old and let him compete. these same shitheads let imane khelif be the victim of a right wing intersexist and transphobic hate campaign. these same shitheads banned south africa before 1999 because it was an apartheid regime but now they cannot do the same for israel. like, i don't care how queer coded or fancy or macabre the opening ceremony was. i don't care that an assassins creed character was giving people gender envy during the opening ceremony. the olympics are catering to white people exclusively and they are bringing poc down and white people who think that the olympics are cool are just incredibly vulnerable to propaganda and they are not immune to pinkwashing and all of them are racist, unintentionally or not. everyone was so onboard with boycotting eurovision but suddenly the olympics comes around and none of them are willing to stand up for marginalized communities or even at the very least criticize the eugenecist eurocentric criteria that puts poc at a disadvantage. i am not even excited for the figure skating in the winter olympics anymore and i decided to filter the olympics tag so that i don't have to see shit like this anymore. i hate the world sometimes. oh and i also want to make it clear that all the poc athletes who won the games like simone biles and others (not good with names sorry) deserve many more good things coming their way. i just hope that people in the future realize that testosterone or chromosomes or a hundred grams of weight is not a magic tool that magically makes you win a competition (any competition, for the record).

-Casey Sr teaches him how to skate, but the first time he tries he immediately faceplants because he never learned what ice is.

-none of the Rise characters have hockey fan vibes. like, they all like basketball (even if Donnie pretends not to know anything about it) Raph likes wrestling and football. Leo would have a shrine dedicated to Michael Jordan, and that's about it. Mikey probably would watch anything his brothers put on. hockey is still very much a white person's sport, we don't have many POC players in the League so it doesn't appeal as much to POC as other sports like basketball, football, or baseball which are more diverse. All this to say Casey wouldn't know there's a pro-league until he stumbles upon it on TV one night.

Yes, and this is important:

We are not doomed.

Yes, things are bad and scary now. Yes, things have been bad and scary for a while. But as I always say, nothing is inevitable, and nothing is just destined to mindlessly roll over us without any choice, agency, or ability to -- even if the worst does happen -- fix it. In regard to the current political clusterfuck, as I have also said:

Republicans are fucking shit-scared TERRIFIED.

That's why this insane, ludicrous, almost-funny-if-it-wasn't-so-terrible right-wing backlash is happening: because the future is NOT going to be kind to the exact brand of systems and institutions that their power is built on, they see the demographics of the youth vote deserting them en masse, and that's why they're trying so hard to entrench fascism now, before all their remaining voters die and they don't get another chance. The major historical injustices that created both America and the world -- slavery, white supremacy, systemic racism, Native genocide, robber-baron capitalism, economic exploitation, etc etc -- have never been as visible and as embedded in the public consciousness as they are right now. We are in the middle of an absolutely seismic reckoning with these things that has never taken place, not to this scale, in American history (or indeed world history) before. Obviously, that is going to produce a wild backlash from the power systems that have been entrenched for over 400 years, since the beginning of what we now define as the "modern" world. They can see that they're no longer going to be able to automatically skate into the next generation on the back of "that's just the way things have always been done," and again. That TERRIFIES them. And it should.

Basically: these are not the actions of people who feel confident that the public actually supports them or that they can get away with what they're doing if they don't cheat to the umpteenth degree. The 2022 elections were important in that regard, and in others, because they actually showed the American people recoiling from Republican extremism in an election cycle where the GOP should have walked it. Yes, far too many white people are far too comfortable voting for fascism, and that's going to remain a problem for a while. But another reason that the Republicans are trying so desperately to shut down affirmative action, thwart student-debt relief, etc., is that younger and college-educated white people vote more like their POC peers. The Republicans don't WANT these white voters, who they see as their next generation of white-supremacist foot soldiers, getting deprogrammed and (gasp) thinking for themselves. But this movement is already underway, and it ain't stopping.

So yes, again: we are in the middle of a historical reckoning of epic proportions, and like all historical reckonings of epic proportions, it absolutely fucking SUCKS to have to live through. But the momentum is with us, the future is with us, the truth is with us, basic fucking human compassion and decency is with us, the last few election cycles have shown America overall measurably and consistently pulling back from the fascist brink, and again. Even if something else terrible happens, as it most likely will, we have survived all the terrible things to date, and we can probably survive that too. We can also push back on it, we can change it, and we can fix it. It is possible and we've already done it. We will definitely do it again.

These first two are parts of a series, so maybe it makes sense that they start similarly: A simple declarative sentence starting with Bitty's name and telling the readers what he is doing.

Pre-Christmas Epiphany

“Where’s Bittle?” Jack asked, glancing around the Haus kitchen.

This fic is from Jack's POV, so here we start with him voicing a thought. A thought that tells all we need to know: He is inexorably oriented to Bitty.

Making My Head Spin

This fic alternates POC and starts with Bitty. The first line is intended to evoke the scene I saw in my mind when I started thinking about it.

Okay, that's two lines ... but I didn't want to leave it at a single French profanity. This is one of my longest fics -- alternating POV again, because I have a hard time not telling everyone what both main characters are thinking -- and it starts with Jack.

Easy as sliding downhill

“Come on, Bits. It’ll be fun,” Lardo said.

Remarkably similar to the beginning of "Hot-lanta," except in New England in the winter from Bitty's POV. Notably, both fics feature a meet-cute.

When Bitty Met Jack

Jack pulled into the rink parking lot and stopped near a blond kid — young man, maybe, but he still looked like a kid — standing under the sign. He had a duffel bag at his feet and a big cardboard box behind him.

This is a retelling of "When Harry Met Sally," so it starts with Jack (in the Sally role) getting his first glimpse of Bitty.

Birthday Surprise

“So how did you celebrate Canada Day when you were growing up?’ Bitty asked, carrying the pie to the table. “Was it like the Fourth of July, with parades and fireworks and red and white bunting everywhere?”

This is a Jack-POV fic and begins with talking to him. Once again, the opening dialogue opens the theme, this time of celebrations.

So kiri goes back home tells her family all about this new friend and it’s a big deal because kiri has never had a real friend before she’s never gotten along with people they become best friends hang out almost all summer but kiri never got the chance to introduce said friend

School starts the sully kids go to the rich school surprisingly people aren’t so bad for rich kids thy all try to find they’re way around because it’s the first day and Neteyam has to break up a fight because of course loak is gonna do something stupid on the first day of school that’s how he meets aounung as his friend rotox is pulling him back Neteyam is pulls loak once that’s shit is over they all scatter to class Neteyam finds an empty seat as he’s getting settled in the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen walks in looking nervous and sits a few seats away from him ok that’s enough details I’m basically writing the damn fanfic

Wild Grinders: The Fan Analysis (Pt.3)

Alright, it’s time for the third part of the analysis. It took awhile to actually begin writing this because I don’t want to dive into my self-indulgent yuri-beam reboot. And we shouldn’t nitpick to make the series ‘better.’ However, there’s a lot for Wild Grinders to improve on that that leaves you thinking, ‘Actually, we should rework it entirely.’ And that’s what this is. The best way was to organize it into 3 categories: Theme, Plot, and Characters. Most of this analysis is going to focus on the writing because animation is not always in our control. (And we kinda covered animation in the last part and said it needed a whole renovation).

That being said, this part of the analysis is primarily focused on keeping the structure of the TV series and the original vision that Rob Dyrdek has. (To the best of my ability).

[Part A]

Let’s assume that the script is taken seriously. Wild Grinders need to have a better overall theme because the wacky skate tricks didn’t do enough to draw in attention.

The current theme of Wild Grinders doesn’t exactly work. As mentioned in the second of my analysis, the writers were trying their best to appeal to the Gen Z audience. Usually by means of implementing modern pop culture references and putting social media in the spotlight in the latest episodes. While the writers aren’t wrong about the technology/socmed obsession amongst children, they missed out on an extremely alarming picture. They didn’t notice why children were becoming gravitated to this era of internet.

Recently, I have been learning about the way that society treats children and teenagers. (Awkward sentence, sorry). But I find myself learning more and more about the ways that society puts control on what kids can and cannot do. Many adults make the decisions to remove places to hang out such as parks and even skate parks (reason: to prevent drug dealers). In the age of our digital era, theaters and physical media are diminishing in favor of online subscriptions. Basically, kids are losing public spaces where they can hang out safely.

And it does NOT stop there. Cops are constantly being funded to ‘handle’ teens who are loitering (Why? Because they don’t have places to hang out). I don’t want to go on an off-topic rant in this analysis, but this post sums up what I’m trying to talk about. It really makes your brain think about the ways that society fails to let kids… be kids. Society uses harmful tactics to remove teenagers for ‘the greater safety’ of property. And I doubt that adults will listen to younger people who speak up about it. Instead, society would rather complain about raising a generation of phone-addicted youths. Older children and teenagers will be threatened and put into dangerous just by being outside because cops have control on where they can be. And by having ‘suspicion’ on teenagers is absolutely allowed in their rulebook to put a kid in a police station.

This is what Wild Grinders should have focused on as the whole theme if you consider the setting it takes place in (2010ish). If the writers wanted to talk about the phone-addicted kids, then they should have questioned why it was happening in the first place. Not only that, but it’s just a perfect theme for Wild Grinders. Reason one, it’s completely different from Rocket Power (their main theme was the history and safety of extreme sports). Reason two, it fits for the main cast. Lil’ Rob is literally the embodiment of ‘screw your authority!’ Jay Jay and Spitball are literally POC characters that the police often go after and the series could have delved into this. In Ketterville-canon, Jack Knife is homeless and lives under a highway, he’s 100% anti-cop. Emo Crys could have went to Linkin Park territory and his archetype was meant to be an intensely rebellious soul. And Goggles? He has the camera to capture video evidence of everything they go through.

Is it possible to air an anti-cop TV series? Nope. But it’s very possible to write and utilize it for what Wild Grinders is. A group of preteens who want to just hang out and skate. In fact, a few of the episodes featured the Wild Grinders being turn away by security and cops when they wanted to find a place to skate. However, they just obeyed in favor of ‘sending a good message to kids about obeying the rules.’ And the script writers didn’t think to push it further than this. But man, they could have done something else entirely if they went to the territory of police brutality used on adolescents. The Monster High Movie, Ghouls Rule! actually did something like this! The movie managed to present a family-friendly version of what ‘police brutality on teenagers’ feels like. To be specific, it wasn’t until 2020 when MH fans became aware of this hidden message and began openly talking about it on Tumblr and TikTok. But to keep it brief, Monster High movies were able to explain police brutality and racism incredibly well. And it’s possible for Wild Grinders to use this a whole theme for a series about kids who want to skateboard in an anti-children and anti-loitering system.

But anti-cops won’t be the only theme in Wild Grinders, there’s another theme that I would love to see; a coalition of diverse skaters. Rob Dyrdek’s vision when creating the Wild Grinders’ characters was to have a diverse cast who were brought together by their love of skating. The idea of diversity has always been intentional for Wild Grinders, but the writers did NOT utilize it enough! They attempted to make the cast be diverse in personality, but they made all of their backgrounds vague and look like they were all normal American kids by hiding their families. Not only that, but they missed out on multiple opportunities to create other skaters outside of the Wild Grinders skate crew. (We’ll talk about this later). In the second season, they were close to introducing the ‘Street Rats’, the crew that Squeaks was apart of. But 2015 happened and Rob Dyrdek packed up his TV series because he didn’t have the motivation to continue Wild Grinders. But we can’t really blame Dyrdek, he was going through a rough patch at the time and the studio screwed Wild Grinders over (in animation and the writing). And that’s why I’m here to talk about what should have been done. And most of it is to improve the writing! The writers were adults who didn’t bother to understand what kids wanted more of at the time and began to parody off of other kids’ TV series.

But yeah. If the writers weren’t bent to the idea of kids-being-incapable-of-thought-processing, then we could see more effort being put into the theme. And not just that, but some of the writers just weren’t here to write for kids and wanted to write Adult Swim jokes. Do I have a passive-aggressive voice about these adult writers? Definitely. Children deserve to consume media that has good writing about meaningful messages in the world.

[Part B]

Next step, Wild Grinders needs to use these two main themes for the plot.

We know for a fact that Rob Dyrdek never planned for a real plot in Wild Grinders. If we were to take his route, Wild Grinders will eventually become boring because a good plot draws people more than the quirkiness. In order to draw people through quirkiness, the visuals need to exceed expectations (clearly something that Wild Grinders failed to do in animation). Therefore, we need to think about a plot for Wild Grinders because it does NOT have the budget for a Kyoto Animation or BONES Studio anime. The plot is compensation here!! It needs to be worked on well!!

Let’s diverge from Rob Dyrdek’s ideas. He wants to make an amazing, cool, and crazy series. But in order to do something like this, you do need some sort of plot. Conflict in writing can lead to all sorts of situations that causes to the characters to be cool, crazy, and amazing.

There is some plot in the writing of Wild Grinders, each episode being 13 minutes long and trying its best to implement one. Most of the episodes have decent plots, but these plots didn’t grab the audiences’ attention, unless you actually liked Wild Grinders as a whole. I don’t know the most professional way to explain this, but Wild Grinders needs a build-up to a greater plot, it needs an actual ‘Big Bad’. Or it just needs a longer run time to build it up better. Some of my favorite small, plot-driven episodes were ‘Midas Touch’ and ‘Skater Who Cried Wolf’ because it didn’t rely on wacky quips to make it entertaining. ‘Skater Who Cried Wolf’ made the animation put extra effort in enhancing the setting, by having Lil’ Rob and his friends watch a horror movie on a school night and then making a ghost-hunting green-filtered screen chase around in the woods. It was just a cool episode compared to the rest. But ‘Midas Touch’? That episode will always be my weakness in Wild Grinders. It focused on a character other than Lil’ Rob, but the plot would be rushed because of the runtime. I wanted to see deeper into Goggles’s character when he decided to become popular. Hell, I wanted to see him be mean to his friends and let the popularity get into his head. (Well, we did see this in ‘Going Hollyweird’, but even that was short). But the resolution to ‘Midas Touch’ was simplified where Goggles’s just cries about not being able to nerd out. No. I want more inner conflict on his side and his to feel deeper regrets other than rejecting a movie screening. While these episodes are both quick and easy plots, ‘Midas Touch’ contributed to the greater idea that is known as character development. Something that is essential for a greater plot. Can I elaborate why this is? Not really, but you just have trust me that it does work.

Anyways, let’s get into the real idea here. Using the themes of diversity and cops abusing their authority on the youth. The main plot will have to involve a large-scale conflict against the police force that bans skateboarding. That’s it. That’s the plot. But it will need to developed throughout the series, carefully placed in different episodes until it becomes a more blatant problem. Think about it for a moment. The first episode makes an off-hand reference to the way that police ‘warn’ skateboarding kids to stay away from the mall. Then it leads to episodes where characters are being arrested for ‘loitering’ in an outdoor public space. Finally, there’s an entire ban on skateboarding in the whole city and you’ve got a group of kids who are willing to challenge it. This is what the writers completely missed out on because they didn’t put themselves in the same shoes of Gen Z youth.

And we can add more to this mix. We need to add in a diversity of skateboarders, they all come from different backgrounds and have different experiences, but they share their love of skateboarding and do their best to protect each other in a world where adults rule over them. Wild Grinders needs LGBTQ kids, teens who want justice for their POC friends, and young adults who are willing to listen to them. They all love skateboarding and they’re sick of adults who want to take their skating spaces away from them.

Wild Grinders was able to make this a plot, but they didn’t.

[Part C]

We need to talk about the characters. We’ve got a lot and we’ve got nothing going on for the cast. As stated before, Rob Dyrdek wanted to create a diverse cast of skateboarders. But he didn’t do the best job at balancing them as characters. Obviously, Lil’ Rob was the main character and got all the attention, but it got to the point that he was considered a Gary Stu because of it. There’s such an imbalance between him and his friends. The TV series didn’t do ALL of the Wild Grinders any justice. They were all watered down to adore Lil’ Rob and when they never got any real development. There was an attempt to balance the characters, but they were lacking. They were always reduced to their conventional personalities and felt static and sterile. Lil’ Rob clearly has the majority of episodes that focus on him.

It’s shocking that Emo Crys has the least amount of episodes considering his popularity and the fact that Rob Dyrdek always hyped him during the first wave of toys. But it’s important to note that the rest of the cast often got their spotlight stolen by Lil’ Rob when they were meant to have an episode dedicated to them. ‘Wild BFFs’ is an oddball on here because it didn’t really contribute to Jack Knife’s characters, but it was an episode where Lil’ Rob didn’t take it away from him. Either way, these were the episodes where the writers tried to put some spotlight on the rest of the main cast, but these episodes fell short. Jay Jay and Emo Crys had the most lukewarm episodes where Lil’ Rob usually has to solve the problem. ‘Wild Grinder with Two Heads’ was the only episode where Lil’ Rob was actually cut off, but both Jay Jay and Emo Crys had to share this episode. Honestly, it wasn’t exactly the best episode because it was one of the ‘wacky’ ones and it’s just brings secondhand embarrassment to watch it. It’s great to see 2 different characters (one of them not being Lil’ Rob) have to work out their problem together, but I would rather have it be a handcuffs situation where they were forced to work out their differences. Spitball is clearly the quiet character and that makes some excuse for his lack of episodes. To keep him mysterious. Goggles had the best development out of everyone in most of his episodes, but it still feels underwhelming until ‘Midas Touch’. While it looks like Jack Knife has a lot of episodes, there’s something that pisses me off about them all. It’s his Sprawl City-canon personality. He was reduced to being the dumb, uneducated American with a southern accent. This funny persona basically demolishes him from having a meaningful character arc. I want the Ketterville-canon Jack Knife for a lot of reasons, but mostly because the whole point of his character was being the kindest out of all the Wild Grinders despite the fact that he was poor and made to always be the joke. Before the production of the TV series, all the Grinders had expression sheets drawn by Tracey, only Emo Crys’s sheet being released. However, there was a tweet that revealed a glimpse of Jack Knife’s sheet where he was like full-on, pissed-the-hell-off.

The only reason why they could never let Jack Knife be angry in the series was to probably avoid him from looking like an angry redneck due to his strong southern accent being permanent later on. If they stuck to the Ketterville-canon and original voice actor for Jack Knife, we could have had an episode where he finally snaps after being docile for long enough. My boy was meant to slash tires and defend his friends when they are mistreated!!

Speaking of Ketterville-canon, it was very fleshed-out and made the characters unique and interesting. You want to know why Spitball got his nickname? He used his spit on people because he thought it would heal wounds from a story he heard. The writers should have made Emo Crys way more moodier and Jay Jay deserves more screen time of his hobbies. The rest of the cast needs to have conflicts (both internal and outside) of their lives and be able to resolve them. The writers avoided anything that would truly challenge the characters in favor of keeping a conventional typecast. And we aren’t done yet. Another improvement on characters we need is: less antagonists and adults that appear for an episode. There’s too many one-time villains in the TV series than like, actual kids who are the same age the Wild Grinders. No, this doesn’t mean we need a girl skate crew to play as girlfriends. Absolutely not. We need different kids who love to skateboard. We need gay and trans kids. We need to see black and brown skateboarding kids. We need to see new designs for characters and skate crews who can make challenges and befriend the Wild Grinders. If kids are going to watch the TV series, they deserve to feel seen because Wild Grinders make more celebrities and adults in the cast where they don’t do a lot. (Unless it’s Lil’ Rob’s mom. She contributes more to the story than the actual antagonists).

Anyways, we need better development for the main and reoccurring cast. But we need to see a diversity of skateboarders as well to create unique plots and encourage character development by having them interact with the Wild Grinders. I’m tired from writing all of this in one shot, but it’s sincerely tiring that the script writers wrote everything the way it is in the TV series.

And I totally agree about the beating being normalized in poc households😭. Your blog really helped me realize that my mom was kind of abusive (and I'm still kind of in denial about it) because over here it's so horrifying how normalized it is to beat your kids until they've turned black and blue.

I was talking to classmates and we were bonding over the fact our parents used to beat us with like wires, sticks, belts and stuff and how they overdid it alot of the time and made us scared shitless and one of them was literally telling me how she fell a glass cup and broke it and got some glass in her foot and she couldn't even tell her parents because she was too scared to get flogged so the babe performed surgery on her self with a DIRTY RUSTY razor at 10 yrs old💀.

ive never left America, so no. im sorry, i wish i was more connected to it a lot of the time but it just feels too late for that to me.

he never taught me his language either (Tiv) though he did speak it when he was around the house. but he wasnt around a lot. when i asked him why he didnt try to teach us he just shrugged like it wasn't a priority. he started staying in nigeria for most of the year only coming back for a few months every now and then so i probably wouldnt have picked it up even if he HAD tried.

I've never even called myself Nigerian, not because I don't want to be but because of the embarrassment of having to explain that yeah im Nigerian but... not really Nigerian. I wouldn't want to disappoint any REAL Nigerians by basically being raised as a white American kid and knowing nothing about Nigeria.

im not very caught up on the political situation over there, but from what my dads told me its not good. my dad is mostly interested in the education system though, its like his life's work and all he's ever wanted to was to be put in charge of it and get kids educated so they have opportunities like he did or something. idk. he thinks education is the key to making Nigeria better and i dont exactly disagree with his life mission but hey, I don't live there. what do i know.

he apparently helped get the current president elected in hopes that he'd be good, but it doesnt appear things are going well. Every time he'd come home when I was younger though, that was the main thing he talked about. Getting his guy elected.

what's fuschia's personality like? And are they an Overlord like Carmilla as well?? /gen

Fuschia's personality is mostly like a mix of Linda Belcher and Harley Quinn--and he's a bit similar to my other B10 ocs, Anatasia and one that I am mostly revamping. He's mostly bubbly, energetic, wise and kind to their family and loves them very much, outgoing and quirky, lenient and supportive. They're also very giddy. However, unlike Harley, he isn't psychotic or disorderly, but they are quite a badass.

For the second question: a very simple "no." They ARE known, however, to be Carmilla's partner so no demon/sinner would wanna lay a finger on him. He doesn't work with Carmilla, but rather work various part-time jobs and do numerous hobbies: for jobs, they work as a mixologist/bar-tender for a day club, hair and nail stylist at a salon, an employee at an arts and crafts store, baker who mostly does cakes and confections at a candy shop, and makes/crafts jewelry and specializes in diamonds; for hobbies, he loves to do surrealistic art and color theory, mosaic glass art pieces, styling hair and dresses, surfing, hiking, foraging, and absolutely LOVES skateboarding. They always go down to the skate park to show and teach other skaters there tricks and skills.

Additionally, this is where Velvette gets her trait on her taste and style of fashion which is from Fuschia herself (yes, I am a believer of Velvette also being Carmilla's daughter--you can't tell me otherwise). While Velvette on one hand is a hipster who follows latest trends, Fuschia is an art hoe (< not in a derogatory way, in any sense, but it is an actual aesthetic which symbolizes Black/POC women who love art and nature--I would search it up for more info btw) who mostly finds relaxation in art. But he loves the fact that Velvette has interest in fashion like them.

While Carmilla's color contrast appears to be mostly red, Fuschia's palette is mostly consistent of purples, blacks, and some other bit of color as well but not much. Like Velvette, he has clothing manipulation so they can change outfits as he pleases and is also allowed to style their hair in certain ways too. Oh, and they're a bit shorter too than Carmilla; also a good mention that they're multilingual and speak in some languages.

Another thing to add is that they also LOVE getting tattoos. They have full-on sleeves on their arms and some on their legs. One noticeable tattoo is on his right shoulder where its the venus/female symbol but in nonbinary colors (a contribute to their gender identity to which he proudly identifies when he was 14), while the rest on the sleeves and legs are flowers, flora and fauna, quotes/sayings in languages they speak, gothic stuff, and surreal stuff. Oh, plus on their wrist is a small list of their daughters names :]

Casey Abel Tinniel He/Pup, Gay, FTM. British/Japanese, Mixed (Obviously White passing, though). WereWolf Demon, Age 17 (average, lore will change it). Demigod of the Moon. AuDHD, BPD. Casey is a soft, silly tall demon boy, who's still trying to figure out how to use his abilities, he has healing abilities but they don't work very well because he doesn't need to use them often, but he can heal small bruises and things and leave no scarring. He also has the ability to create small shields, but again, doesn't need them due to modernity. He's rarely angry, and is gentle and caring as often as he can be. He's getting as much help as he can for his BPD, it was worse when he was younger, but he's getting better.

Astrophel Helios She/He, Bisexual, Agender. Greek, POC. Shapeshifting Demon, Age 19 (average, lore again) Demigod of the Stars. PTSD. Astrophel is kind of a mom friend, and is definitely the second most mature of the group, being second only to Samael. He's incredibly quiet and values other opinions more than his own feelings, which leaves him burnt out. She has the most control over her abilities, able to heal wounds on almost all levels (not mental scars though), leaving no scarring at all no matter how deep, this is due to her being able to shift other people's forms (bc everything is made up of stardust).

Oliver Kalaw Dalisay He/They/Bug, Gay, FTM. Filipino. Dragon/Bird Demon, Age 16 (average. you know the drill) Demigod of the Weather/Sky. Blind. In the politest way possible, Oliver is a little shit. Being blind doesn't stop him from doing anything to the point of bullying Casey into letting him skate (on rollerskates or a skateboard). He's incredibly loud, and definitely the life of the party. He can't use his abilities well, but they will randomly happen due to his emotions (eg: when he's sad a little raincloud forms over his head). He uses echolocation to get around mostly, but he can see colors to a point (very very blurry though).

Kaito Kano He/Him, Bisexual, FTM. American, mixed(? havent solidified). Fox Demon (Kitsune? kinda? maybe?), Age 17 (average). Demigod of the Sea/Waves. American. (/j, he's got no disabilities/disorders. though in all honesty hes undiagnosed adhd probably.) Kaito is wayyy too encouraging and isn't a good influence on Oliver at all. Them (Casey, Kaito and Oliver) all being friends since secondary school, they're almost constantly together, either skating (and scaring the death out of Casey) or just messing around like usual teenagers. Kaito is the one constantly feeding them bad ideas, due to being an American exchange student, he's used to doing "usual American things", which.. aren't usual in Britain. He doesn't use his abilities often but are your usual basic water powers.

Hikari Sara Tinniel She/They (But doesnt rlly care), Demisexual Lesbian, Demigirl NB. Japanese/British, Mixed. Wolf Demon, Age 17 (lore, Casey's Sister) Demigod of nothing, just has base demigod abilities. ADHD Casey's very loud, party animal of a twin sister. She tries to get him to do all sorts of social stuff and Casey just won't unless Kaito or Oliver is there. She's incredibly boisterous and social compared to Casey, almost making them complete opposites if not for their looks and a few likes. Unlike her brother she only god the demigod "immorality" and a little extra strength, whereas he got the powers associated with the moon. She'd be jealous but she's glad their father doesn't bother her due to it.

Samael Anubis They/He, Bisexual, Nonbinary?. Egyptian Demon, No specifications. Age 20 (lore, again) Demigod of Death, Gatekeeper of The After. No specified Disabilities. Samael is kind of just a guy studying biology and medicine. He's been friends with Astrophel for years, Astro meant to follow them into university but was held back and never got in. Sam is pretty chill outside of class work, and usually will hang out. Dad friend of the group to Astro's mom friend, platonically of course. He's legally not allowed to use half of his powers, yk, dangerous death god. But he does decide who dies and who gets to live longer.

Elliott Hanayo Any Pronouns, AroAce, Nonbinary. Japanese. Demon/Nymph. Age Unknown. (physically around 23) Demigod of Nature. No specified Disabilities.

Demon that took in Kari and Casey, they live in her apartment even though its pretty small. Elliott is incredibly chill, and usually stays out of Casey and Kari's business, but they are the *true* mom friend, usually making sure they have snacks in at all times. Even though they wouldn't class themselves as a part of Casey and Kari's friend group, Kaito and Oliver always make her feel like shes important to them having fun whenever they see her, chanting their name, etc. His powers are your usual run of the mill nature powers, creating vines, flowers, etc, easily out of the ground.

Artist Research Blog #6- Vincent Cianni

Vincent Cianni, born in 1952, is a documentary photographer who looks to capture the traditional black-and-white photos that expose the shift in communities of POC. Vincent Cianni graduated college with a degree in social politics and used this narrative to begin capturing high school dropout students. In 1993 Vincent documented a social justice project in New York City where he documented homelessness and racial/social injustices. In 1986 he began another photo project where he captured the effects of HIV on individuals closest to him. Vincent explains that his late partner had suffered from AIDS, so many of his photographs during this time were intimate and personal.

Following in 1990, Vincent began to capture the aftermath of the Battle of Berlin. Around 1992, Vincent moved to Brooklyn, and in 1994 he photographed Puertorican livelihood through his various subjects. Vincent explains how he became close with many of his subjects, and through personal relationships, he was allowed to capture more intimate photos. A documentation reflective story was created by photographing the livelihood of those around him.

Vincent Cianni created several projects, "Gays in the Military," which recorded LGBTQ+ military service members lacking identity, secrets, shame, and invisibility. As well as "Old Forge," which documented a coal-mining town in Pennslyvania and Italian immigrants. In addition, his project " We Skate Hardcore" documented the neighborhood of Brooklyn and the POC community within it. Through completing these multiple projects, Vincent Cianni came up with the Newburg Community Photo Project NCPP, which allows his work to be represented and connected through members of his community.

All in all, I am very fond of the work created by Vincent Cianni! At first glance, I thought his book "We Skate Hardcore," I thought he would be photographing skateboard life. After viewing his work, I realized how connected he was to his subjects, and his images projected much more than skater life. Although some photos were created through a black-and-white value, Vincent Cianni's work finds a way to evoke a source of intimate emotions in those photographed. I enjoyed knowing that Vincent used his skill of photography to not only photograph the lifestyle of others and document the racial injustices of POC living in NY.
