hi hi! do you have any things that non little people should be aware of when headcannoning/ drawing a character with dwarfism? is there anything that would be offensive to do when it comes to headcannon?

Hello! Whether head-cannoning or drawing people with dwarfism, a major thing to keep in mind is anatomy - it's something that a lot of artists get wrong because they usually pull from fantasy "dwarves" vs. dwarfs with the actual disability. You need to do your research when drawing us, and it's important to note it when head-cannoning.

Since I'm in love with Steven Universe right now (despite it's issues), here's an example on how to discern if a character is likely a little person, and not simply a small character.

Consider: Peridot.

She's about the height of Steven (who we know to be 13 and 4 feet tall), however the rules of the world tell us that the (alien) Gems are sized relative to their stones.

"This height is indicative of my rarity and importance!" - Period Season 3 Episode 9

So though she is short and petite, she is not a little person. (Though you could by all means still headcannon her as such)

Sadie Miller on the other hand, is human and also around Steven's size despite being five years older than him. She's a good foot shorter than her peers and is depicted using stools multiple times throughout the show. She is very clearly a little person, despite it never coming up in conversation.

I personally like to draw a clear line when headcannoning between characters that are simply small for artistic/world reasons vs. characters that actually seem to have dwarfism.

When it comes to drawing them, it's important to actively choose which type of dwarfism they have (there are hundreds of types, including skeletal dysplasia) and ensure that their anatomy is on point.

How To Raise A Mii: Instead of Henry making Eteled on the Wii he made Mii Sam, she popped out of the Wii and now Henry and Roxanne have to take care of her. (Kinda a shitpost AU lol)

Barn AU: Shitpost Au where Sam and Henry are Barn Owls and Kyle and Austin are cats.

Future AU: All the teen characters are grown up and living normal lives after the events that happened 10 years ago. There's two versions, One where Henry and Austin are alive and one were Eteled is still around.

Wii Are Miis AU: Everyone are Miis and they live in Tomodachi Life, Eteled is the "Protector of Miis" while Austin is the Island's grump.

jessie: i've joked about her sounding like jasper from steven universe because i think she could sound like peridot pre-godhood, but jasper's voice is honestly too dry. she sounds like a cartoon bully of some kind, i'm sure if i rewatched Every Single Cartoon I've Ever Seen I would be able to pick out which voice i'm thinking of, but i won't be doing that. i am honestly too tired to rewrite the rest of this answer. "i imagine jessie post-deification to have a low demonic growling voice that speaks in unison with her regular voice. it’s very quiet when she’s being normal, but the growling gradually overtakes her regular voice when she’s angry (regardless of whether she’s yelling or not; she can be the icy stone-faced kind of angry and it still sounds demonic)." she has a specific voice that is difficult to headcanon with some kind of voiceclaim (hate that word)

What characters would you consider to be twice exceptional? (someone who both has a developmental or learning disability and is considered gifted). The guidelines are that there needs to be tangible evidence in canon that the character is both neurodivergent and excels in one or more specialized skills. They don’t need to be canon, but more than just an “it would be neat” headcannon, you know?

SU AU lore dump

This is part 2 of me and @lewissilvertree's GIANT Steven Universe dump. The lore edition! Most of the writing was done by Lewis but this is pretty much a timeline from when we first made this AU to now :> Enjoy!

So my OC's name is Vic, she's an Orange Jasper that was a bit overbaked when she came out, kind of like Amethyst. Bob in this AU is Vic's brother, and they fight. ALL THE TIME. I have countless headcannons and rp's to prove it! Anywho, Vic is PAINFULLY insecure about her height and the way she came out. Since she wasn't the most practical at battle, Bob taught her how to fight, and she also turned to books and education, so she's more brains than brawn. She's actually more similar to a Peridot! During the gem war, Vic nearly got cracked and was taken to some sort of fountain to be healed. After that, Bob became a lot more protective over his little sister. She ended up getting limb enhancers and was assigned to look over a planet so YD could colonize it. When Bob learned of this, however, he wanted to stow away on Vic's roaming eye because he didn't want her to go by herself. So he did. YD kinda just didn't care...and that's when they meet Lewis's OC, Eclipse! When Eclipse first emerged, he radiated insane power. The diamonds feared this power and banished Eclipse to a very far planet and it was eventually forgotten about. Until Vic and Bob came along. They were tasked to study the planet and stumbled upon Eclipse. In the AU, Eclipse is a legend, a myth spread about, saying that Eclipse was a threat to the diamonds because he was more powerful than them. Of course Eclipse had no idea since he was long banished when the story was created. When Eclipse met Vic and Bob he was happy since he hasn’t seen a gem in thousands of years on the lonely planet. He followed them around and liked to talk to them. Until one day he heard about yellow diamond and how she feared Eclipse. He wanted to talk to YD and explain that he’s friendly and means no harm! Eventually Bob and Vic gets called by YD and Eclipse was told to stay out of camera range so YD won’t see him. Unfortunately he is spotted and YD commands Bob and Vic to poof Eclipse and take him to Homeworld for "experimentation". (But really, YD wanted to shatter him) Vic poofs Eclipse, feeling terrible about it. They take Eclipses gem and went back to homeworld. They’d go to the lab and drop Eclipse off, but he started to break out of the bubble that Vic bubbled him in. Bob and Vic panic and get called into YD's palace. She wanted to see Eclipses gem for herself Bob and Vic didn’t want to but then Eclipse finally breaks out of the bubble in a giant poof of steam. YD is shocked by this as Eclipse processes what and where he is. He's happy to see YD and goes to try and talk to her but she's is fearful and the two start to argue. Eventually, Bob and Vic decided they needed to fuse to save Eclipse. Vic says something to YD and she instantly poofs Vic as a result which terrifies Bob and triggers Eclipse and poofs YD. Everyone being terrified they go and attack the group. Bob held Vic’s gem and fled with Eclipse. They triedto work a pod to escape but didnt know how because that's Vic's specialty. Luckily she reforms in time to work the ship and they escape. They try to de-stress in the ship as it traveled. Vic has the idea to join the Crystal Gems on Earth once everything has died down (Bob isn't very fond of that idea but comes along) before they crash land onto the beach in Beach City knocking them all out. Bob and Vic see that Eclipse ripped off the ships door, and found him just laying there unconscious in the sand. The siblings meet the Crystal Gems and Eclipse wakes up. Bob went inside to try and fix the ship but he kinda doesn’t know how to fix it. So Vic goes in and sees what dumb things he did and goes to repair the ship. But she can’t, it’s too wrecked. Fast forward to Future era, everyone has a new look and Eclipse and Bob are boyfriends. The gang is supposed to meet Garnet at Fish Stew Pizza, but because Bob led the way, they're lost. Then a lapis named Astrid comes along and asks if they need help. Some part in Vic instantly took a liking to Astrid, but Bob? The exact opposite. The reason? Because Vic might be growing up and he can't handle it. (1/2)

I have design talk, and a close up of little X under cut-

Design talk thought process-

I really liked the thought oh xem walking on two legs, but running on four. My first thought was to go to Peridot(Steven Universe), but then that led me to the therian community, and then it led me look at am mixture of therians on quads and animals(mainly cats).

While making the original pose I put cat ears on xem to entertain a friend who was watching me draw, but a little while later xe looked a little unbalanced so my friend suggested I could give xem a tail. At first I was against it, and only did it as a place holder but it kinda stuck, so now xe has a tail of compressed void.

Xes hands has three fingers plus thumb as well as the fingers are stubbier, cause I wanted xem to have even more cat-like(then I learned cats have more then three fingers). Xe also has beans(that are absolutely squishy) to absorb the shock from leaping up high and then coming down hands first.

I know on xes skin it’s all armor(besides the arms) that’s fully protective, but that seems like an unfair advantage at start game(even if it was leather). I gave xem as much open area while still keeping a good amount of armor on.

I know it’s not noticeable but the left(xes left) has a X scar over it and is slightly more closed.

Xer hair is white because I always thought CC!X was late 40s early 50s(he’s mid 30s) cause of dadsuma headcannons.

Some may think that i consider that to be Lapiz Lazuli, but her character development was way too out of screen. And most of my favoritism is the result of headcannons and delusions. So, i would choose Peridot instead, she as a character succeds in everything Lapis fails to be.
