Our planet has not passed its latest health check-up. A new assessment of Earth’s life-support systems shows that six out of nine of these crucial processes have crossed their “planetary boundary.” These boundaries are not tipping points—it’s possible to recover from passing them—but they are thresholds signifying we’ve entered higher-risk territory.

On another worrying note, scientists found the planet is close to breaching a seventh planetary boundary: ocean acidification.

In its first edition, a report from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) used years of data and assessments to evaluate the nine planetary boundaries. These life-support systems make Earth resilient and stable. Alarmingly, six of those boundaries have already been crossed, as a similar assessment last year also concluded. The new report adds to that finding, suggesting these six metrics are now moving further into the “red zone,” or what the researchers consider a high-risk zone.

“The overall diagnostic is that the patient, Planet Earth, is in critical condition,” says Johan Rockström, PIK director and pioneer of the Planetary Boundaries Framework, in a statement.

Boundaries that have already been exceeded have to do with climate change, freshwater availability, biodiversity, land use, nutrient pollution (such as phosphorus and nitrogen) and the introduction of synthetic chemicals and plastics to the environment.

Ocean acidification is one of the systems that has not yet crossed its planetary boundary, along with ozone depletion and aerosols in the atmosphere. But while ocean acidification is still in the “green zone,” the new report finds it’s trending in the wrong direction. Scientists now say this metric is on the brink and may cross out of the safe zone in the next few years.

Earth’s oceans absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, providing a valuable carbon sink as humans burn fossil fuels. But this process also makes the oceans more acidic, which can disturb the formation of shells and coral skeletons and affect fish life cycles, per the report.

As ocean acidification approaches the boundary, scientists are particularly concerned about certain regions, like the Arctic and Southern oceans. These areas are vital for carbon and global nutrient cycles, “which support marine productivity, biodiversity and global fisheries,” the report says.

“Looking at the current evolution, I’d say it’s really, really difficult to prevent that [boundary] crossing,” says Levke Caesar, a climate physicist at PIK and an author of the report, to Mongabay’s Sean Mowbray.

Other recent studies indicate the current conditions are already affecting some marine organisms, Caesar said in a press briefing, per the Guardian’s Damien Gayle. As a result, it might be necessary to re-evaluate “which levels can actually be called safe,” she added.

Levels of acidification are different across the world’s oceans. Colder waters, like those in the polar regions, may become more acidic more quickly, because they absorb more carbon dioxide. For some scientists, this suggests that perhaps the boundary has already been breached.

Tips, Fun Facts & Guidelines: From The Grimoire Of Deathful Wombs

☠If you summon a spirit for one purpose, abandon that purpose once the spirit manifests, and then ask for something else instead, the spirit will be furious. Making an additional request impromptu can go alright, so long as the additional request is not too much of a tangent from the original request.

☠The Ars Goetia, which contains 72 demons, was a rewrite of an older grimoire containing 69 spirits. The Ars Goetia included four additional demons and excluded one named Pruflas. 72 relates to the muliebral current of magickal energy, total magickal empowerment, and the Ophidian (draconian/serpentine) current.

☠If you disrespect the demons thoroughly enough, they might attack you, even to the point of having deathly intent. Even when that happens, it is still entirely possible for the deities to forgive you and continue to further your ascent.

☠Forgiveness is easy to get from most spirits, but sometimes forgiveness is partial. Articulated apologies and offerings both make forgiveness easier to get, and making spiritual progress is a big way to regain their favor.

☠Each of us will resonate better with some demons than others from the very beginning of our work. This is based partially upon the idiosyncracies of our physis- you will get the strongest manifestations by working with a demon whose physis is comparable to yours. Invocations of various demons will help you identify which types of spirits you resonate with. The ones most divorced from your physis will be difficult to invoke. By deliberately working with those spirits, you have become gradually attuned to their physis. Not only will this give you the ability to effectively access greater portions of the Numinous, it will strengthen the weak points in your spirituality and balance your own physis. The more balanced your energy is, the more powerful it is.

☠All the deities have their own character, preferences, values, etc. Ra hates psychic vampyres to the extent that he is liable to attack entire covens of them unprovoked, but Tiamat, Qingu, and Absu all love vampyres and are quite interested in their success, evolution, and well-being. Shugara judges people based on character, deeds, and potential. Samael is more strict than most deities.

☠You don't get over shit, you get through it- grieve normally. If you still have an emotional attachment to a bad memory, that means there's something about it you still haven't processed. Spells for emotional healing don't make you weak, they just allow you to cooperate with the spirits who care about you. To rephrase that last sentence: team work makes a dream work.

☠Refuse to distance yourself from the persons and spirits important to you during times of hardship- that's one of the worst things you can do.

☠Do not neglect your own well-being and mundane life for magick. The spiritual high can distract you from your outside life and incline you to procrastinate and neglect your obligations.

☠You'd ve surprised how early in your life certain spirits may have had their eyes on you. Your relationships with them may go back to past lives and/or activities between incarnations. Don't let it bother you if you aren't one of these cases.

☠If spirits call you a fool, that means you're doing the right thing: exploring unfamiliar territory. The Fool symbolizes the initiation process, as does Death. Death also symbolizes change and transformation.

☠Entities who are of a similar spiritual nature to yours or which share the disposition of your personality, will be easier for you to sense, see, hear, channel, evoke, and invoke. There are many factors defining the nature of your personal spiritual make-up, including the state of your alignment with various planetary forces, your Zodiac sign and its alchemical element, your attunement to various types of spiritual energy, and the position of your personality on the spectrum from feminine traits to masculine.

☠Some spirits have their own signature ways to give omens to the magician- Shugara uses the rain, Surgat tampers with locks, and so forth. Omens oftentimes simply serve to either let the witch know the spirit is interested in them or assure the witch of their presence. It's not too uncommon for spirits to hide your shit, appear in clouds, etc.

☠As far as I know, no perfect or omnipotent beings exist.

☠The gods destroy people all the time. Sometimes this can be so subtle that a magickal adept can be destroyed by a deity and think that it's helping them the whole time.

☠If a spirit tells you something you already know or reminds you to do something you already planned on doing, they're doing it for a reason.

☠Offerings do not have to be given during ritual, and you'd be surprised how many different types of viable offerings there are. You can offer fur shed by your pets to a demon (burn it). Fresh picked flowers can be an offering- so can sharing your meal or drink. Incense and lit candles used in ritual can serve as offerings.

☠Demons require offerings for sustenance, but they will only demand them of you if you did something wrong- unless a given offering is simply necessary for a ritual.

☠Ask the demon what they call themselves. If necessary, ask them to explain the symbolism of that title.

☠Consuming part of an offering to a deity takes the essence of that entity into your being.

☠Most practitioners of demon magick have a matron and/or patron demon. When a spirit offers to fill this role, make it official with a personally designed ritual.

☠Refusing to speak about a rite will greatly increase its power, but speaking about it isn't the end of the world.

☠If a deity asks why it should fulfill your request, the right answer is always something to the effect of, "I just wanted your help". Anything else is technically a lie. Lying to a spirit about why you want what you want is a huge mistake, but even the most trustworthy spitits may lie to you about certain things either for your own benefit, to prevent you from knowing a truth you are not ready for, or even just to patronize you. This does not count as hypocrisy on their part- deity-human interactions are a special case.

☠You'll end up looking back at problems you could've solved with black magick.

☠Chances are that whether or not human or animal sacrifice is immoral depends entirely on whether or not it is immoral to kill the person of animal in the first place.

☠Demons hate child abusers.

☠Destructive magick "thins the veil", furthering the alchemical refinement of our universe.

☠Love and lust are very magickally powerful, and sexual interactions with a deity increase your energetic rapport with them.

☠Drawing one of the Goetic sigils is often enough to get the attention of the demon it's attributed to. The demon may even manifest while the sigil is being drawn. Simply looking at any given sigil can make the sigil more powerful permanently. It is even possible to subconsciously activate a sigil by looking at it- this is not a bad thing, nor does it mean that you're being vampyrized by whoever designed the sigil.

☠Some demons think less of you when you think less of yourself. If this becomes a problem with a spirit, tell them you're trying to fix whatever problems you have and ask for assistance.

☠Force yourself to be confident about the effects of a rite during, before, and after its performance.

☠If a particular spirit fills you with intrigue and/or excitement, this means they want to interact with you.

☠When a spirit manifests to give you instructions or warnings, the advice is often as simple as, "do this". "Pay more attention to your surroundings". "Don't trust this person". If a demon tella you things like this, the advice is often necessary for your well-being in your immediate situation. If you plan on doing a rite in the next couple hours and a spirit suddenly tells you to do it at 10:30 specifically, you might find that this is necessary to avoid a grave intrusion.

☠Unless you specifically expect a demon to adhere to its recorded appearance, it will often assume a form hither to unrecorded, even to the extent of changing genders.

☠Even spirits renowned to be the most harsh, demanding, cruel etc. often turn out to have a kinder side.

☠You should only offer your blood to the most important spirits in your path- always seek the guidance of your matron/patron and/or higher self before you offer your blood to a nre spirit. Once you offered blood to a spirit, they are always with you, and their ability to influence you increases. This does not mean that they will take control of you at some point the way people infer. Any amount of blood offered is sufficient to create this connection, and offering more blood later will not strengthen the connection.

☠Cemeteries are great places for demon magick- just don't use them without guidance.

☠Do not think demons are limited to their recorded ranks and attributions.

☠The more you work with, pray to, meditate on, and research an entity, the stronger your energetic rapport with them grows. Generally speaking, when you are thinking of a demon, it is thinking of you.

☠The idea of historical facts is a relatively new invention. Mythical stories often served to contain truth instead of fact. Imagine that a given mythological figure is recorded to have given his last piece of food to a stranger. Such a story would most likely not be intended to relate a specific and factual historical event. Instead, such a story might just serve to convey the mythological figure's generosity.

how to enchant items 🔮

to enchant an item is to infuse or fill it with energy. in witchcraft, this is commonly done with intent or to serve a specific purpose. this energy can come from a variety of sources, including celestial bodies, elements, crystals, herbs, or even yourself. 

some individuals use the words “enchant” and “charm” synonymously as a way to describe the process of infusing something with energy, but for the sake of this post and due to my own beliefs, you enchant something and it then becomes a charm. alternately, a charm can be something with its own innate energy, like a crystal or herbal amulet. 

enchanting items to turn them into magical objects involves more than just intent - you must learn to channel and manipulate energy, and direct it into that item for enchanting to be successful. 

all that aside, the process of enchanting is extremely versatile and there are many ways to do it.

here are a few ideas on how to enchant items, in no particular order:

surround the item with corresponding herbs or crystals

place the item in a jar filled with corresponding herbs or crystals, seal, and set aside to "charge"

place the item in front of a colored or scented candle that corresponds to your intent and meditate

anoint the item with an oil, charged water, or crystal elixir of corresponding intent 

hold the item in your hand(s) and visualize it filling with energy; you can also speak or sing your intent aloud and play music if you want

craft a sigil to keep near the item in an envelope or sachet

sew, stitch, or carve a symbol into the item

write your intention on paper and keep in an envelope with the item; bonus points if you add a tarot or oracle card to the envelope

bury the item in a mixture of soil and corresponding herbs

pass the item through incense smoke

pro tip: time your enchantments with the appropriate planetary hour, day of the week, time of day, or lunar phase to increase your chances of creating a successful charm.

By the time he woke up the next morning, Feyd was ready to pretend the whole previous day didn’t happen, and she was happy to allow it. He nestled in her arms as he slowly woke up, as he usually did, and purred and pawed at her and brushed his lips against her sweaty flesh while she ran the tips of her fingers down his back. The only hint of their fight from the day before was his affection, now more blatant and pleading, begging silently for reassurance. She wrapped both of her arms around him and held his torso in her hands like a jug of water, and kissed his forehead and cheekbones and lips. She thought that might calm him, but it only made him act more needy.

“You have to get up at some point,” she murmured as she laid kisses down his throat. “They’ll be looking for you.”

“Let them look,” Feyd grumbled.

“Don’t you have scouting parties to organise?”

“They can do that on their own.”

“They wouldn’t dare…”

Feyd sighed and mumbled but finally pulled himself away from her. Their skin stuck together for a moment, and they both shivered at the parting.

She helped him dress again and then sat in his lap while she freshened up the inking on his teeth. He grinned like a beast to allow her to work, but she found it oddly adorable that he looked more like a tamed animal. Her hand cupped his cheek, tilting his head this way and that while she brushed gentle strokes down his teeth with the other.

“There. All done.”

He grabbed her naked hips and brought her closer. “Now I get to dress you,” he purred.

“No, not today,” she said with a shake of her head. “I think I’ll stay in a little longer.”

“What? Why?” he frowned.

“I’d rather miss the early fuss, all those soldiers and servants milling about… I don’t think they like the sight of me.”

“I’ll tell them not to look if they want to keep their eyeballs.”

“I’m not sure that would help,” she chuckled. “Go on ahead. I’ll see you for lunch, if you like.”

He muttered something in Harkunnin but eased her off his lap and got up to sheath his daggers. She watched as he walked with long steps to the table and back to the door, and leaned against the rumpled sheets in a picture of lazy repose. Feyd left her quickly but not before taking another look at her, and she knew he enjoyed the sight of her nude body contrasted against the sheets before the guards closed the door behind him.

In fact, she’d stayed behind on purpose. She wanted his last sight of her to be something sultry and luxurious that day, one that would linger in his mind as he attended to his governatorial duties. It was meant to be in equal parts reward and punishment — and she knew he’d enjoy it.

She kept her word though and was already in the dining room at lunchtime when he got there. She’d spent her morning meditating and slowly getting dressed, but she wasn’t hungry. The heat took that away from her. Feyd, however, seemed ravenous when he set his eyes on her.

“You were in our bedroom all day?” he asked as he rushed to her in a sharp straight line like a predator. He had his arms around her waist before his question was out.

“Is it really our bedroom, or just yours?” she smiled, her hands sliding up his arms toward his elbows.

Feyd shrugged, seeming not to think there was much of a distinction. “I don’t mind sharing.”

She laughed. “Be careful what you wish for.”

“You want to know what I wish for?” said Feyd, tugging her toward him. His eyes trailed down her face and to the black-clothed shape of her.

“I know you want to eat,” she said, curling her fingers around his jaw and gently squeezing his cheeks.

“You’re not wrong,” purred the boy, brushing her body against his with the tightening of his arms around her. She could tell he wasn’t talking about food.

“I do too. I am famished.”

“Well, I’m flattered.”

“No, no,” she tutted, squeezing his cheeks a little harder and shaking his head. “I want real food.”

He glared at her and sighed but that’s what all his displeasure amounted to. Anyone else who teased him that way would’ve been dead ten times over. Don’t give in to pride, she thought to herself. You’re not safe yet.

And to his credit, he allowed her to eat. He ate as well, albeit not without sliding his gaze toward her every now and then. There was more spice in her dish this time, or at least it seemed so when her skin began to flash hot and cold the way it did whenever she took melange. It hardly seemed to affect Feyd — which she noticed in spite of pretending not to look at him at all. Playing coy was difficult, and he seemed even more upset with her than he was the day before when she’d been speaking of rebellion, but she knew it would pay off later.

“Do you want to come with me back to the command room?” he casually asked during one of the rare moments when his eyes avoided hers.

She felt the instinct to be suspicious of his request, but the way he fiddled with his fork, slouching in his seat, booted feet clearly swaying back and forth underneath the table, it made him seem so boyish and so vulnerable to her. She almost smiled.

“Am I welcome there?” she asked with a cocked brow.

“You are if you behave.”

“I’m not well-behaved,” she chuckled somewhat bitterly, thinking of the lost sisterhood of Bene Gesserits and how disappointed they would be if they could see her now. She was fast approaching a mental state in which she wasn’t disposed to obey anyone anymore, be it the sisterhood, or her Harkonnen captors, or him. “Just as you’re not well-behaved.”

“You’re being very free with your criticisms lately,” he growled, his knife hitting the plate a little hard. “First the treasonous rhetoric from yesterday, and now calling me —”

“Well you are a little brat, aren’t you?” she said, finally looking into his eyes, and holding his gaze.

His eyes widened — perhaps in surprise that she could guess what he was about to say, or perhaps in anger. She could see it in the little wrinkles that formed at the edges of his eyes, in the way his breathing quickened, and how still the air between them was. But just as she predicted, he played along with her. He always wanted to.

“I was under the impression that you were quite pleased with me.”

She smirked. “Just because you’re a naughty little boy doesn’t mean I am displeased. Sometimes, it’s quite the contrary.”

He leaned back and smiled, the tension in his body taking on another flavour. “So I take it you don’t want to come to the command room after lunch?”

“I’d rather see you this evening,” she said. “And I think I’ll take dinner in… our bedroom.”

But when, much later, no servants turned up with the food as evening came, she paced up and down and worried she might have overplayed her hand. Perhaps Feyd was more difficult to read than he’d let on, and was just good at pretending otherwise. Her powers of perception were not what they used to be since she’d started… serving him, and for all her meditations she could feel her skills were slipping. She had to get off that planet as soon as possible, but the more she brought it up, the less likely it was to happen. And now that Feyd had the Fremen within his sights he was not likely to let them go — not even to elope with her, as she’d suggested.

All these thoughts were increasing in speed and severity, like a wave crashing over her and pulling her deeper, down into a dark sea she’d never swum in before. She hadn’t been this frightened since she was first given away to the Sisterhood, and even those memories were too far and foggy to be sure… It isn’t fair, she thought to herself, anxiety turning into anger. It isn’t fair that I should always be given away, always left behind, always end up in the clutches of… of… psychopaths. She sighed and hugged herself, head tilting back to open up her airways. This way of thinking isn’t helpful, she told herself in an attempt to calm. Maybe I should just go out and look for him. Maybe something’s keeping him. Maybe something happened…

But just as she thought that, the doors behind her opened. Feyd walked in with two servants behind him, each carrying a covered plate.

“Put them right there,” he said, pointing to the table.

She stood to the side, watching this innocent procession and expecting something worse… But then the servants left, and Feyd walked over to her and took her in his arms.

“Did you miss me?” he asked, leaning forward to nuzzle her throat. “I’ve missed you.”

Slowly, she brought her hands up and wrapped them around him in something that attempted to be an embrace. “I did.”

“You look tired,” he said as he parted from her, looking down at her with a smile in his eyes. “I would’ve expected you to have more energy after doing nothing all day.”

“Is that a slight because I didn’t join you in the command room?”

He smirked down at her and let her go, then turned toward the table. “Well, why are you tired?” he asked.

She hugged herself again, feeling oddly cold without him. How strange… She hadn’t even been looking forward to his embrace, yet now that he left her she longed for it.

“Tired of living here, I suppose,” she answered without thinking.

Feyd didn’t even react in his usual petulant way. He merely chuckled and uncovered the plates of food.

“Sit down on the bed,” he said. “We’ll eat together.”

She didn’t need to be told twice. She sat atop the soft black sheets and tucked her hands between her knees while Feyd took off the top part of his armour and the sheathed blades he kept at his hip all day. He was quite careful in bringing the food to her, starting with one plate, then another, then the glasses of water. She took that first and drank half of it in one go while he watched and smiled.

“Did the heat get to you today?” he asked as he scooped up a spoonful of red foam — a mix of oxblood and berries.

“Perhaps it has,” she sighed, not looking at him to spare herself the sight of his smug smile. The plates of food were between them, shining silver on the bed. She picked up a piece of roasted almonds, crushed and rolled up in a ball, spice sprinkled on top, and plopped it in her mouth. It calmed her almost instantly. “So, what did you do today?” she asked. “Did you attack?”

“The mentats are conducting an assessment on the most recent data.”

“And once they’re done?”

Feyd sighed and leaned back on the bed, his sharp elbows digging into the soft mattress. “If you want to talk strategy, come with me tomorrow. But I don’t want to talk about it now.”

She nodded. She could tell he’d been in a bad mood ever since he got back, but instead of being grateful that he’d kept his word and returned to her, she’d only been more irritated by his presence. But as she ate, her nerves began to calm and she could think with a degree of lucidity.

“I have missed you, you know.”

“Have you?” he asked with a cocked brow. “Or are you just saying that?”

“There’s no need to be cynical,” she said, taking another almond roll. “I already told you I don’t want to run away from you. I don’t know how you expect me to prove it.”

Feyd was quiet for a moment. She could hear him thinking. Almost fearfully, she looked at him from the corner of her eye and found his smooth brows creased in a tight frown. He must have noticed, because immediately his features were pulled up in a smile and that boyish twinkle returned to his eyes.

“Well… I guess I could think of a few ways,” he purred, his sleek body twisting on the bed until he could wrap his arms around her waist from behind.

“Oh, that would prove it?” she chuckled drily.

“Finish dinner,” he said, resting his head against her back. She wondered if he was trying to hear her heartbeat. “We don’t have to talk about this if it makes you unhappy.”

She looked back at him and cocked a brow.

“What?” he shrugged. “I like you better when you’re in high spirits.”

“Right… And you?”

“Oh, I’m not hungry.” And with that, he fell back onto the bed and stretched his limbs, looking more feline than ever.

He’s up to something, she realised, her thoughts more clear now than they had been all week. But it soon got swallowed up and washed away in that same tumultuous wave from earlier.

“That absolute mother fucker” You gritted out. You could practically feel the steam coming out of your ears. No contact for almost 6 months and then suddenly he’s sending you flowers? FLOWERS?! Oh the next time your lay your eyes on Katsuki Baukgou, it’s on fucking SIGHT.

Kirishima must have told him of your dinner plans for tonight. Katsuki had always been territorial, especially when it came to you. A tight grip around your waist was ever-present on your nights out, a snarl on the tip of his tongue if a guy got too close for his comfort. 

There was a faint flutter in your stomach as you remembered his hands around you, growling a soft “Mine”. 

NOPE. NOPE. CUT THE CAMERAS.

You squeezed your eyes and locked those thoughts away. “5 Gs, girl.” You muttered to yourself. Good god girl, get a grip.

Pain radiated from your palm and it wasn’t until then that you realized how hard you were squeezing the necklace in your hand. The light shining off of it caused prisms to dance along the walls of your office. You could feel your quirk humming under your skin, aching to be used. You haven’t felt like this since the last full moon, hell it feels even better than that. The small potted plant you failed to revive caught your eye from the corner of the room; letting your eyes flutter close, you lifted a hand and aimed the thrumming energy to it. 

Using your quick came as easy as breathing, you watched as the plant seemed to reverse in age. The browning leaves, fading to a bright and vibrant green. Your quirk worked through lunar energy, being able to manipulate dark matter and time-space. Or at least, that’s how your parents described it. They both came from planetary quirk families and they had passed their traits onto you, but you felt like there was more than what they had let on. Your mother’s quirk was in tune with the sun; your father’s the stars. It had been a long time since someone with lunar abilities had been born into the family. As you grew older, you felt other..aspects of your quirk manifest. Visions or illusions. The only person you had confided in about it had been Bakugou after a particularly vivid nightmare. You’ve had better control with them now, thanks to endlessly grueling training sessions.

You shook yourself out of the memory and admired the newly flowered plant. You quickly threw the pendant in your desk drawer, locking it away to obsess over later. Right now, you had to focus on this mountain of work in front of you and then...dinner with Iida.

SEVERAL HOURS LATER

“Girl, you’re still here?” Ochako’s head popped in behind your door, your head snapped up at the sound of her voice. The afternoon shade had begun to replace the soft spring sunshine, you hadn’t realized how much time had passed. 

“Fuck what time is it??” You frantically searched for your phone, hoping you hadn’t made yourself later. You breathed a sigh of relief “Thank god, it’s only 5.”

Ochako gave you a flat look “You should’ve been out of here at 3!” She chastised you “This is what happens when you pull the I’m just a girl, I simply will die if I do my paperwork at a reasonable time.” 

“First off, fuck you. Second off, fair point.” You sighed in defeat “In my defense, it’s hard being a teen pro-hero.”

“Bitch, we are 28.” 

“Okay, whatever, god.” You rolled your eyes, dodging with a laugh as she threw one of the little mints you had in a bowl by the door. “Oh and also texting the group chat. Really? I got another one of Kirishima’s ‘I’m a child of divorce’  calls.” Ochako had the decency to look sheepish as it was your turn to chastise her.

“I’m sorryyyy, I was just excited!” Her eyes finally landed on the bouquet you had placed by the window “Oh my god, those are beautiful!” She rushed over to admire them. “Who were they from?”

Sweat prickled the back of your neck. Oh, they were from my ex-boyfriend who I’m sure now knows I’m going on a date with our old classmate because your nosy ass couldn’t resist gossipping to one of his best friends. “Uh, I’m not sure, actually. Didn’t come with a card.” A half truth was good. “I think it might have been from that charity I had helped with last month.”

She hummed, not fully paying attention. “Yeah, maybe.” She gasped “What if they’re from Iida?! Oh how romantic!” You quickly reacted as you saw her reach for her phone. Darkness swiftly creeped up her hand and shifted the phone into your hand. “Ugh!” She grimaced “I hate when you do that! It’s cold as hell!”

“Oh, it makes complete sense. I think we were all surprised by the news, you both had been together since graduation. Do you mind if I ask what happened?”

The Curse of Limitless Expansion: Jupiter's Shadow

I have covered the "negative" manifestations or the shadow side (as I prefer to call it) of different planetary influences, such as Venus, Moon, Rahu & Ketu and whilst I have explored Jupiter's different manifestations before, I thought it is time to do a more in-depth analysis of Jupiter's shadow.

Being the largest planet in our solar system, Jupiter is expansive and its natives are internally spacious and vast. I had observed previously that Jupiter is similar to Rahu in terms of its spaciousness (Claire had also observed the similarities between Punarvasu & Swati) but the difference is that Rahu is truly limitless in its expansive ability as it quite literally does not have physical form (Rahu refers to the north node of the Moon) Jupiter may be vast but it does have limits, it's bound by its massive capacity but since it does have a physical form, that means it also has limitations, it has a tipping point. This is why Jupiterean natives suffer or have the ability to realize they have "gone too far". Rahuvians have a "point of no return" mentality, they think they've gone too far but have to keep going since it no longer makes sense to return now.

Some people believe that since Jupiter is the planet of luck, abundance, growth and healing (or generally perceived as a "positive" planet) it somehow does not have a "dark side". This is untrue. Jupiter's darkness is just as terrifying as that of any other planet. The bigger the planet, the bigger the shadow.

Jupiter's shadow manifests as a god complex, messiah complex and megalomania, most commonly seen in men.

Men and women channel their nakshatras and planetary influence differently. Men tend to externalise their problems and women tend to internalise theirs. Men tend to inflict destruction upon others and women tend to self-destruct (@lasirenesensible tysm for pointing this out to me, it's a very valuable insight).

If you take anything away from these posts it would be that literally anybody with any placement/nak/planet is capable of being truly evil. There is no specific nak/planet that is a "guarantee" against evil. The thing about all these men claiming to be God/Messiahs is that there were people who believed them and followed them blindly and uncritically. Anybody can claim these things but not everybody can acquire power and influence and lead people this way. This is another aspect of Jupiter (not to repeat myself again and again but yeah it's the whole "Guru" thing, people look at you as a figure of knowledge and wisdom, and these people project natural leadership qualities).

You can't just be crazy or narcissistic enough to believe these things, you also have to be strategic enough to amass a following. To be a leader and a guru requires a certain commitment and discipline. These are all Jupiterean qualities (that are used for malicious purposes here).

Jayalalithaa- Punarvasu Rising (Shatabhisha Sun & Magha Moon)

She was the Chief Minister of the state of Tamil Nadu in India and was an actor turned politician who had a cult following (they called her "Amma" or "mother" which I think is interesting that she was this mother figure/matriarch because of Punarvasu's deity Aditi being the Cosmic mother). She was a corrupt politician but the masses largely overlooked this and she was known for being a bit of a tyrannical figure who expected absolute loyalty from her party members who often publicly prostrated before her (not kidding).

Not as brutal as some of the other people on this list but her personality cult and influence over her following is crazyyy (I'm Indian so I'd know) and when she died in 2016, her state observed a 7 day mourning period.

Mata Amritanandamayi Devi- Vishaka Rising (she also has Hasta Sun👀)

She's an Indian spiritual guru known as the "hugging saint", she's still alive and has millions of followers and there hasn't yet been a proper expose but her cult has been controversial for ages especially after it started recruiting spiritually confused white people into its mix. A lot of it is unexplained, she's most definitely a millionaire at this point and we have no idea what actually goes on behind closed doors. Many of the alleged miracles that she has performed have been debunked on many occasions. To think that she has football stadiums full of people who worship her and think she's the divine incarnate is sooo crazy

Ram Dass- Punarvasu Rising

He helped popularize yoga and Eastern spirituality in the West. I don't think he's cruel or shady, just a regular white guy who had a spiritual awakening in India and co-opted thousands of years of Vedic wisdom and teachings to "introduce" it to the West. But his influence is unmatched to say the least, he spearheaded a whole movement and made eastern spirituality mainstream in the west. This is a manifestation of Jupiter's boundless nature.

Oppenheimer- Punarvasu Moon

the man who developed the first ever nuclear weapons was a Punarvasu lol

he truly believed that he was doing the "right thing" because (you already know all this if you watched the movie) Germany was bound to develop these weapons and cause mass destruction and Oppenheimer thought he was on the right side of history by making these weapons for America and by extension for the Allies

it just goes to show how self-belief isn't a good thing on its own because you can make yourself believe anything. I guess Oppenheimer's guilt has to count for something ??? Idk how many people mentioned on this list felt guilt because of the destruction they caused, Oppenheimer had a conscience et.al

Elon Musk, Punarvasu Rising

He is the richest man in the world and is on a quest to own everything he can and colonize Mars, need I say more? Idk if this is a strange manifestation of Punarvasu's deity Aditi being the Cosmic Mother (either that or the man has a breeding kink) but this guy procreates at the speed of light (he has 6 kids right now with 3 different women I believe)

Tommy Mottola- Punarvasu Sun (Swati Moon)

the asshole who trapped Mariah Carey (Punarvasu Moon) in a hellish controlling marriage for 8 years. He was the CEO of Sony Music in the 90s and was known for being a megalomaniac (look up his feud with Michael Jackson) he has ruined the careers of many and is known in the music industry for being a really scary controlling maniac

Anders Behring Breivik- Punarvasu Rising

He blew up a bomb in the centre of Oslo. Meanwhile went to an island where a political youth gathering was taking place. Dressed up as a cop he would kill 69 people on the island of Utøya, and call out to teenagers hiding saying it was safe to come out, those who believed him and came out were shot.

Alfred Hitchcock- Vishaka Moon (also Shatabhisha Rising with a lot of Moon influence in his chart)

He basically stalked some actresses and tried to control their lives; told them what they could/couldn’t eat, and where they could/couldn’t go. He sent Tippi Hedren inappropriate Valentine's letters. She claims he threw himself atop her in a hotel room and kissed her — and in her biography accused him of sexual assault. Yet another Jupiterean megalomaniac.

Al Capone- Purvabhadrapada Rising

 He joined the Five Points Gang as a teenager and became a bouncer in organized crime premises such as brothels. In his early twenties, Capone moved to Chicago and became a bodyguard and trusted factotum for Johnny Torrio, head of a criminal syndicate that illegally supplied alcohol—the forerunner of the Outfit—and was politically protected through the Unione Siciliana. A conflict with the North Side Gang was instrumental in Capone's rise and fall. Torrio went into retirement after North Side gunmen almost killed him, handing control to Capone. Capone expanded the bootlegging business through increasingly violent means, but his mutually profitable relationships with Mayor William Hale Thompson and the Chicago Police Department meant he seemed safe from law enforcement.

Idk whats the link between PBP and the mafia but Scorsese (PBP Moon) has made manyyy mafia themed movies and Robert DeNiro (PBP Moon) has starred as a mob boss on multiple occasions.

Having Jupiter influence really is like having unwielded power and if a native isn't mature enough to channel it appropriately then they can easily lose themselves to malignant narcissism, god complex and megalomania.

It requires a great deal of wisdom to wield this ability wisely and for the greater good

Jupiter influence is very prominent in the charts of royalty, another group prone to megalomania and god complexes lol. Jupiter bestows its natives with power, status and affluence but one must wield it carefully.

Punarvasu is widely accepted as the most auspicious of Jupiter-ruled naks (due to its themes and its deity) whereas Vishaka and Purvabhadrapada are both harsher manifestations of Jupiterean energy but even the most "gentle" of Jupiterean naks still came up in the charts of some of the horrible people I mention in this post. Basically, no one is exempt from being cruel, obviously, everything depends on the chart as a whole (a person is more than the sum of their parts) but that said the presence of a nakshatra considered "auspicious" (Jupiter ruled or otherwise) does not automatically qualify as some kind of redeeming quality lol. Everybody has to consciously choose their actions and be good and do good aka anybody can be cruel and evil and yes even Jupiter has its dark side/shadow.

Do you have any tips/advice for working with and calling on Saturn. I’m new to planetary magic and would like to work with Saturn to help organize my life basically

Saturn energy is very heavy. In my experience it feels literally depressive, as if I'm having an episode. So a good way to approach working with Saturn is to have light, bright energy to wash away his vibes when the work is done. The Sun works very well for this purpose, but also keep in mind various cheerful home cleansing techniques.

Keep it simple to begin with. Agrippa's planetary seal, astrological symbol of Saturn, and the planetary square will serve just fine for calling him.

The Orphic Hymn to Saturn is a good way to work with the planetary energies. I recently found the Kristin Mathis translation which I enjoy; see this Reddit thread for multiple translations [scroll down].

My (limited) experience with Saturn is that you've got to be careful what you wish for. His power can be challenging because it's a power of division and boundaries. I think lead is a good analogy for him: it's heavy, and that weight can be really good for holding things down (I use lead fishing lures in Saturn talismans), but that weight can also drag you down.

When working with any new power in a serious way, it's probably a good idea to ask that power to reach out to you and teach you something about its nature and its influences before you start actively working with it. Try a formal introduction to Saturn on his day and hour, and asking to see how his presence influences your life already. Use these interactions as practice points to learn to ground and cleanse his energy away. Then, when you have a handle on his influence, give sorcery a go.
