This year, I want to try my best to share more of a big project I've been working on over the past 5 or so years. I'm a sucker for speculative biology so I've been tinkering with a 'life after humans' where fleshy plants/succulents were the next evolutionary stage and gained sentience. They have complex cultures and lifestyles that I want to show off more. Its nice working on this because it's not dependent on a narrative like a lot of my other headworld stuff.
Anyway, the project is called Viridæ

A lot of this is very (very) old and outdated art/info but I almost have a new writeup of their information I want to share almost done :) My end goal for this is a nice big illustrated book in the vein of an educational book that shows their biology and social behaviors and the like.

This is something I'll be tackling over the course of this year. I'll be sharing more stuff about it in detail on my Patreon for now~

My last illustration for the Wastelands 2023 artbook was titled "Plains". It was inspired by my own childhood experience of riding a bike around in the countryside and being chased by stray dogs.

Writing update!
Bound to Ashes is available as a Google Doc (ask for .pdf) for general readers. I'm not after much feedback except general vibes and if you caught any stray typos.
It's 95k words (that's roughly 380 novel pages) written in 1st person present-tense, character-driven, post-apocalyptic science fiction set in a speculative alternate future. If you're interested in themes of survival, learning how to trust, and existing in a world that feels like it wasn't made for you, then you might enjoy it! I would content rate it for older teens and up.
From here, I'll take some more feedback into account and make any teeny-tiny edits I have to, then it's on to figuring out a nice free way to distribute an eBook.

This week I wanted to share a selection of podcasts set after the end of the world. This Variety Pack features stories which focus on hope, resilience, and community, and on light when the world has become dark.

'Panzer Dragoon II: Zwei'
[SAT] [JAPAN] [MAGAZINE] [1996]
"The original Dragoon was the most exciting game for the Saturn when it debuted in Japan a year ago. Despite its shortcomings, it still shines. But this sequel is aeons ahead. PDZ is epic, dazzling, stirring and thrilling in equal measure. The ambigious (sic) plot of the original is expanded in a fantastic story intro that making it more of an adventure than an arcade game. But the story ends up offering more conundrums than those it solves. Quirky mystery is part of the PDZ experience as there is a whole culture of hidden features within the game, including an elaborate box of tricks offered as a 'reward' for good play. Graphically, it's far in advance of any shoot 'em up on any 32-bit format. Advanced polygon routines give a solidity, detail and smoothness to the backgrounds, and an artistic imagination has produced creatures nightmarish and stunningly beautiful in equal degree. Each level progressively astounds, especially the leviathan bosses which end each episode in a perilous confrontation. The last of these is so incredible as to be a defining moment in console gaming. Musically, the game's stunning appearance is matched byte for byte. The achievement is all the more impressive as it comes direct from the Saturn's sound-chip. Developers in this country must strive to make use of this Yamaha-designed wonder, or Sega must provide an easy interface for it, as its neglect is, shown by PDZ, criminal. But it's too easy. Yes, the PAL version will be harder and the game has long-term interest, but still it's just too easy to play through. How can we still recommend a game that hardened players will complete in a few days? Because it's a must-have game. PDZ is simply the must-have game of spring '96." ~Angus "Gus" Swan, Mean Machines Sega (May 1996, #43)
