Predictive vs. Adaptive Development: Which Way to Go?
Predictive development, also known as traditional or waterfall development, is a linear and sequential approach to software development. In this method, the entire project is planned and defined in advance, with a detailed project roadmap outlining all the tasks, milestones, and deadlines. This methodology assumes that the project requirements can be clearly defined from the beginning and do not change significantly during the development process.

Birth Chart Breakdown: Ascendant/Descendant (All Signs)
Your Ascendant is the energy you radiate into the world, the way you naturally present yourself before deeper layers are revealed. It is your instinctive response to life, influencing how others perceive you and how you navigate new experiences.
Your Descendant, sitting opposite, represents the qualities you seek in relationships, the energies that complement and challenge you. It holds a mirror to the traits you may not always recognize within yourself but are drawn to in others. Through your partnerships, you come to understand the missing pieces of your own identity.
đŸ”„ Aries Ascendant / Libra Descendant – The Bold Self vs. The Harmonizer You step into the world with unshakable confidence, eager to take action and initiate new experiences. There is an instinctive independence to your approach—bold, direct, and unafraid of challenges. Life is a battlefield to conquer, and you thrive in the pursuit of personal goals. But relationships ask something different of you. With Libra ruling your Descendant, you are drawn to those who embody diplomacy, grace, and the ability to balance your fiery nature with harmony. You seek a partner who teaches you the art of compromise, someone who reminds you that strength is not just in action but in understanding. Love, for you, is about learning to lead while also making space for another’s voice.
🌿 Taurus Ascendant / Scorpio Descendant – The Steady Self vs. The Intense Partner You move through life with patience, stability, and a preference for comfort over chaos. There is a deep appreciation for beauty, security, and the tangible pleasures of existence. You don’t rush—you build. But relationships take you into the depths. With Scorpio on the Descendant, you are drawn to intense, transformative connections that challenge your desire for predictability. You attract people who push you beyond surface-level comfort, stirring emotions you may not always be prepared to face. Love, for you, is about learning that true security doesn’t come from external stability, but from the courage to dive into the unknown, to let yourself be seen beyond the surface.
💹 Gemini Ascendant / Sagittarius Descendant – The Curious Self vs. The Expansive Partner You greet the world with a quick mind and an adaptable spirit. Words are your playground, and knowledge fuels your endless curiosity. There is a lightness to your presence, an ability to navigate different social circles with ease. But in relationships, you crave depth. With Sagittarius on the Descendant, you are drawn to those who expand your mind and challenge you to look beyond the details into life’s bigger picture. You seek a partner who brings adventure, meaning, and a philosophy that deepens your restless heart. Love, for you, is about balancing intellect with wisdom, conversation with action, and embracing a connection that doesn’t just keep you entertained, but helps you grow.
🌊 Cancer Ascendant / Capricorn Descendant – The Nurturer vs. The Builder You step into the world with a gentle, intuitive presence, instinctively attuned to the emotions of those around you. There is a strong desire to create a sense of home wherever you go, to nurture and protect. But relationships demand a different strength. With Capricorn on the Descendant, you are drawn to partners who provide structure, stability, and a sense of long-term direction. You seek someone who grounds you when emotions become overwhelming, who teaches you that strength is not just found in softness but in resilience. Love, for you, is about learning that true security isn’t about shielding yourself from hardship, but about building a foundation strong enough to withstand life’s storms.
☀ Leo Ascendant / Aquarius Descendant – The Performer vs. The Visionary You move through life with a radiant presence, naturally commanding attention with your warmth, charisma, and bold self-expression. You thrive in spaces where you can shine, where your energy can be fully seen and appreciated. But relationships pull you toward something unconventional. With Aquarius on the Descendant, you are drawn to partners who challenge you to think beyond yourself, who introduce you to new ideas and ways of being. You seek someone who values individuality as much as connection, who reminds you that love is not about possession but about mutual inspiration. Love, for you, is about learning that true recognition doesn’t just come from external admiration, but from being truly understood.
đŸŒŸ Virgo Ascendant / Pisces Descendant – The Pragmatist vs. The Dreamer You present yourself with precision, logic, and a focus on efficiency. Life is something to be organized, improved, and understood through careful analysis. You pride yourself on your reliability, your ability to bring order to the chaos. But relationships challenge you to let go. With Pisces on the Descendant, you are drawn to partners who exist in the realm of emotion, intuition, and spirituality. You seek someone who softens your edges, who reminds you that not everything needs to be figured out, that some things are meant to be felt rather than analyzed. Love, for you, is about learning to trust, to surrender to the unknown, and to embrace the beauty of imperfection.
⚖ Libra Ascendant / Aries Descendant – The Harmonizer vs. The Warrior You move through life with grace, diplomacy, and an innate ability to see both sides. Your presence is magnetic, effortlessly drawing people in with charm and refinement. You seek beauty, balance, and peaceful connections. But relationships challenge you to be bold. With Aries on the Descendant, you are drawn to partners who embody independence, action, and raw passion. You need someone who pushes you to take initiative, to stand firm in your desires, and to embrace the fire within. Love, for you, is about learning that true harmony isn’t found in avoiding conflict, but in standing strong while still choosing connection.
🩂 Scorpio Ascendant / Taurus Descendant – The Intense Self vs. The Steady Partner You step into the world with an air of mystery, exuding intensity, depth, and an unshakable presence. You see life as a battlefield of transformation, constantly seeking truth beneath the surface. There is a magnetism about you, a quiet power that both intrigues and intimidates. But relationships pull you toward stillness. With Taurus on the Descendant, you are drawn to partners who embody stability, patience, and unwavering loyalty. You seek someone who grounds your emotional storms, who reminds you that strength is not just found in transformation, but in endurance. Love, for you, is about learning that true power lies not only in depth but in consistency—the kind of connection that does not waver, but holds steady through it all.
đŸč Sagittarius Ascendant / Gemini Descendant – The Explorer vs. The Messenger You greet life with boundless energy, a thirst for adventure, and a spirit that refuses to be confined. You are driven by the pursuit of truth, constantly seeking meaning beyond the ordinary. Experience is your greatest teacher, and you crave the freedom to roam. But relationships thrive in connection. With Gemini on the Descendant, you are drawn to partners who challenge your ideas, keep your mind sharp, and remind you that wisdom is not just found in the journey but in conversation. Love, for you, is about learning that true expansion isn’t only about movement, but about staying long enough to truly listen, to share, and to grow together.
🏔 Capricorn Ascendant / Cancer Descendant – The Ambitious Self vs. The Nurturing Partner You step into the world with purpose, exuding discipline, resilience, and an undeniable sense of responsibility. Life is something to be built, one achievement at a time. You are grounded, self-sufficient, and determined to carve a path of success. But relationships pull you toward softness. With Cancer on the Descendant, you are drawn to partners who offer emotional warmth, deep care, and a safe space to rest. You seek someone who reminds you that love isn’t earned through accomplishment, but freely given. Love, for you, is about learning that true strength lies in allowing yourself to be vulnerable, in finding security not just in structure, but in deep emotional connection.
🌐 Aquarius Ascendant / Leo Descendant – The Rebel vs. The Romantic You navigate life with a detached, intellectual approach, valuing freedom and innovation above all else. You thrive in spaces where ideas flow, where individuality is celebrated, where convention is questioned. But in relationships, you seek warmth. With Leo on the Descendant, you are drawn to partners who bring passion, creativity, and an unapologetic confidence. You need someone who reminds you that love is not just an idea to be understood, but an experience to be felt. Love, for you, is about learning to step into the spotlight of your own emotions, to embrace vulnerability, and to let your heart be as bold as your mind.
🌊 Pisces Ascendant / Virgo Descendant – The Mystic vs. The Grounded Partner You step into the world with an ethereal presence, moving through life with deep sensitivity and an innate connection to the unseen. You are guided by intuition, emotion, and dreams. But relationships ground you in reality. With Virgo on the Descendant, you are drawn to partners who bring structure, logic, and a sense of practical guidance. You seek someone who helps you make sense of your feelings, who provides stability without stifling your creative soul. Love, for you, is about learning that dreams need form, that vision needs action, and that a connection is strongest when it honors both magic and method.
✹ The Ascendant is the face you show the world. The Descendant is the mirror that reflects who you become through others. Understanding their interplay helps you navigate life with both confidence and connection, balancing the self you express with the self you discover in love. ✹

Can you explain in what what you think eugenics doesn't work? Does this basically boil down to skepticism about the accuracy of GWAS studies? My understanding is that academic consensus is "G probably exists, disentangling direct genetic inheritance vs genetic cultural inheritance is complicated but possible, we can identify a number of alleles which we're reasonably confident are directly causally involved in having a higher G factor"
when it comes to intelligence, its heritability, and its variation at the population level, my understanding of the science is:
highly adaptive traits don't, in fact, vary much at the genetic level between populations of a species because they are strongly selected for. in an environment where a trait is being strongly selected for, a population that failed to express that trait strongly will be rapidly outcompeted.
intelligence is probably the quintessential such trait for humans. we have sacrificed a great deal of other kinds of specialization in favor of our big brains. we spend an enormous amount of calories supporting those brains. tool use, the ability to plan for the future, the ability to navigate complex social situations and hierarchies in order to secure status, the ability to model the minds of others for the purposes of cooperation and deception means that we should expect intelligence to be strongly selected for for as long as our lineage has been social and tool-using, which is at least the last three million years or so.
so, at least as a matter of a priori assumptions, we should expect human populations not to vary greatly in their genetic predisposition to intelligence. it may nonetheless, but we'd need pretty strong evidence. i think i read this argument on PZ Myers' blog a million years ago, so credit where that's due.
complicating the picture is that we just don't have good evidence for how IQ does vary across populations, even before we get into the question of "how much of this variation is genetic and how much of it is not." the cross-national data on which a lot of IQ arguments have been based is really bad. and that would be assuming IQ tests are in fact good at capturing a notion of IQ that is independent of cultural context, which historically they're pretty bad at
this screed by nassim nicholas taleb (not a diss; AFAICT the guy only writes in screeds) makes a number of arguments, but one argument I find persuasive is that IQ is really only predictive of achievement in the sense that it does usefully discriminate between people with obvious intellectual disabilities and those without--but you do not actually need an IQ test for that sort of thing, any more than you need to use a height chart to figure out who is missing both their legs. in that sense, sure, IQ is predictive of a lot of things. but once you remove this group, the much-vaunted correlations between IQ and stuff like wealth just straight-up vanishes
heritability studies are a useful tool, but a tool which must be wielded carefully; they were developed for studying traits which were relatively easy to isolate in very specific populations, like a crop under study at an agricultural research site, and are more precarious when applied to, e.g., human populations
my understanding based on jonathan kaplan articles like this one is that twin studies are not actually that good at distinguishing heritable factors from environmental ones--they have serious limitations compared to heritability studies where you actually can rigorously control for environmental effects, like you can with plants or livestock.
as this post also points out, heritability studies also only examine heritability within groups, and are not really suited to examining large-scale population differences, *especially* in the realm of intelligence where there is a huge raft of confounding factors, and a lack of a really robust measurement tool.
(if we are worried about intelligence at the population level, it seems to me there are interventions we know are going to be effective and do not rely on deeply dubious scientific speculation, e.g., around nutrition and healthcare and serious wealth inequality and ofc education; and if what people actually want is to raise the average intelligence of the population rather than justify discrimination against minorities, then they might focus on those much more empirically grounded interventions. even if population differences in IQ are real and significant and point to big differences in intelligence, we know those things are worth a fair few IQ points. but most people who are or historically have been the biggest advocates for eugenics are, in my estimation, mostly interested in justifying discrimination.)
i think the claims/application of eugenics extend well beyond just intelligence, ftr. eugenics as an ideology is complex and historically pretty interesting, and many eugenicists have made much broader claims than just "population-level differences in intelligence exist due to genetic factors, and we should try to influence them with policy," but that is a useful point for them to fall back onto when pressed on those other claims. but i don't think even that claim is at all well-supported.

Rivals

Summary: The Gophers and Iowa have a generational rivalry with each other, tensions dating back years. What happens when one of Iowa's top players injures you?
wc: 3,248
Contains: slightly suggestive, mentions of blood, insta posts at the bottom, not proofread well, hella long
______________________________
The Minnesota Gophers vs. the Iowa Hawkeyes was one of the oldest rivalries in women’s college basketball history. Whether it’s overly aggressive plays, double technicals every couple minutes, and shoves being exchanged. It’s tradition at this point to have one or two chippy moments at one of these games.
So it’s no surprise when tonight is no different. It’s tied, 83-83 in the third quarter with two minutes and thirty-six seconds left. The air is so filled with tension, it was like a heavy cloud of negativity loomed over both teams. Patience was thin on both benches, and everyone, even the people watching from home could feel it.
You’d been guarding Kate all night, and to say it was a challenge would be an understatement. She was agile and quick on her feet, and in some cases, she just managed to slip through your defensive skills. But, you were able to keep up with her, following and predicting her moves closely. She got a couple shots on you, but you didn’t let that stir your determination.
You were on your A game offensively tonight, too. Whether it was weaving through players with ease, calling good screens, or taking risky threes, you were doing it all.
It was paying off, too. Until the beginning of the fourth quarter. The game had just resumed, you guarding Kate once more. She’d been more physical, which you weren’t expecting, but you adapted, quickly matching her energy.
You had gotten the offensive rebound, running back to the Iowa basket, Kate hot on your tail. You get into position to make a layup, but Kate is right there to block your shot. She smacks the ball, but her momentum sends her body into yours, sending you flying to the ground.
You crash into the base of the basketball hoop, back hitting the floor first, followed by your head smacking into the stanchion. You squeal loudly, but the crowd's deafening cheers drowned out any noises you could’ve made. You’d made the layup, but that was the least of your concerns.
You’re grabbing your head, rolling over on your side, trying to find a position that relieves some of the pounding that has started in your head. Kate immediately goes to check on you, but that doesn’t last long when your teammates push her out of the way to get to you. One of your teammates starts yelling at Kate, who yells back, and the referee's whistle pierces through the air, signaling technicals for both players.
You’re still curled up under the basketball hoop, holding the back of your head, when you feel a warm liquid. You pull your hand away, and your eyes widen as you stare at your crimson cover palm.
Everyone who knows you, knows you hate blood. The red liquid sends a wave of nausea to your already banged up head, and you close your eyes to avoid the tears falling, and to relieve some of the tension that the lights were causing. The crowd silences as the camera shows you looking at your hand in horror.
Your breathing picks up as you continue to look at your hand. Tears fall from your eyes as you start to hyperventilate, unaware that eventually the lack of oxygen would cause you to lose consciousness.
You're only out for about 30 seconds, but that was more than enough time for you to be surrounded. You wake up to the athletic training staff, your teammates, and the coaching staff around you. You're running on autopilot, so the first thing you try to do is sit up, which doesn’t end too well for you. You attempt to lift your head off the ground, but a sharp pain shoots down your back, causing you to gasp loudly.
“Shh-stay still, honey.” one staff member assures you. You groan in response, feeling multiple hands on you at once. You don’t say anything as you try to roll over on your stomach and attempt to relieve the pain in your back. You have a pounding headache and have no idea what’s going on or what happened.
“You gotta stop moving. The ambulance is on the way.” You freeze at these words.
Ambulance?
You have no idea what happened but all you know is that you have a basketball game to play. "W-we gotta play.” You croak out, looking at your teammates, tears brimming your eyes. You watch through blurry eyes as they shake their heads.
“No, kid, I think you're done for the night."
"No, no, n-no we gotta play- we're so close." You whimper out shakily. A couple of your teammates turn their heads, your statement making an already emotional moment even more heart-wrecking.
You feel someone grab your hand and rub it soothingly, attempting to distract you from the increasing pain in your spine. The Iowa bench was kneeling out of respect, because rivals or not, they weren't fucking monsters.
You sigh, accepting that you were done for the night and probably a while after. “What happened?” You whispered to no one in particular. You felt someone adjust the towels that you didn’t realize were under your head. The once white towels were colored now, and you felt sympathy for whoever had to clean them after.
“You fell kid, but you’re gonna be okay.” one of your teammates says. You hum in response.
All you could do is pray that she was right.
The crowd gave you a standing ovation as you were put on the stretcher and wheeled into the back of the ambulance. Despite their attempts to keep you awake, the loss of blood made it hard for you to keep your eyes open.
On the way to the hospital, they check your memory, which is pretty good, all except the moments leading up to the incident. All you remember is the girl that ran into you. When they get you to the hospital, they run their tests and find out that you had a pretty bad concussion, along with a crack in your spine. It’s safe to say you were done for the season.
Eventually, you were released, immediately starting physical therapy and, put in crutches and given a body wrap. You finally check your phone, and you see thousands of overwhelming messages from friends, family, and teammates. You respond to a couple of them, informing them that you were okay before going to instagram. Normally, you’d stay off of social media, but you needed something to distract yourself.
You’ve got hundreds of notifications on there, too, but one stands out the most.
A message from @katemartin
Just wanted to sincerely apologize for knocking you down the other night, I hope you know it wasn’t intentional. I don’t know if you’ll even read this, but you’re in my thoughts and prayers. Opponents or not, you’re a good player, and it’s devastating to see you injured. Get well soon.
Your heart swells at the message, as tears start to brim your eyes. You don’t know what to say, because this has never happened to you before. Usually, when someone gets injured, they get a pat on the back, and that’s it. But she went out of her way to message you.
You heart her message before typing a message back to her.
Thank you for the prayers, I know it wasn’t intentional, I watched the playback. I appreciate the message.
After you click send, you decide to leave it and begin scrolling through your feed. Nothing interesting comes up until you see Kate doing a post-game press conference. She’s asked her thoughts on the collision between you two.
“It was a basketball play. I had no intention of slamming into her like that. She’s an amazing player, like I seriously look up to her. The way she carries herself and the way she plays, that’s an example I think a lot of people should learn from.” she takes a deep, shaky breath, clearly trying to keep her composure. It breaks your heart to see her this shaken up about you.
“I don’t think I’ll ever forgive myself for being a part of the reason she’s not playing. Everyone deserves to do the things they love, and it’s not fair that I took that from her. Our teams may be hella competitive rivals, but despite that, this is a sisterhood. We aren't friends, but never would I ever wanna hurt her like that. It was an accident.” Kate’s voice cracks at the end, and her teammate rubs her back as she looks down.
“It was an honor to play with her, and I wish her the best.” she finishes, before the clip ends.
You’re in tears by the end of it, and you just want to give her a giant hug, tell her that you forgive her, and that you’ll be back on the court in no time. But instead, you stick with responding to her message she had just sent you.
How are you doing?
It’s been 4 months since your injury, and you’ve been talking to Kate non-stop. You and her had been texting back and forth, calling, and falling asleep on facetime. A lot of the time was talking about nothing in particular, with a couple updates as to where you are in your recovery.
You couldn’t help but feel your heart tighten when you talk to her. It’s like a breath of fresh air. Even though you were barely around her, you felt like you were missing something whenever you two weren’t having a conversation. You knew you were falling and falling hard. Little did you know, Kate was falling just the same.
Kate couldn't sleep well to begin with, but now she definitely couldn't sleep without talking to you. She couldn't go a minute without thinking about what you were doing, what you were wearing, what you were thinking. It got so bad that her teammates were practically begging her to ask this mystery girl out. Her daydreams were distracting her from her practices, the way she played in games, and her schoolwork.
Finally, (after Caitlin went on a ten minute rant about how painfully in love she was), Kate found the confidence to ask you out on a phone call. She was nervous and stuttering over her words, her face painted a beautiful pink.
"Maybe we could hang out sometime, like by ourselves. Like we could go to like the movies-or maybe out to eat somewhere. Or-or not, y'know we could hang out with other people, like our teammates, like not together because I don't think they like each other very much, but we could like not tell them, or we could tell them b-"
You cut off her rambling with a laugh, finding her anxiousness adorable. "Kate 'Money' Martin are you asking me out?" You ask, raising your eyebrows teasingly.
You watch as her face reddens even more, her teeth capturing her bottom as she playfully rolls her eyes at your mocking tone. "Y'know what, never mind. I take it back." She smiles at you.
"Oh, no, no, you got me locked in now." You say smiling softly back at her.
"Is that a yes
?" Kate asked in a joking manner, but you could sense a serious undertone to it.
You bite your lip lightly, staring at the blonde on your phone screen.
"Whatcha got in mind?"
Kate made the six hour drive to Minnesota that Saturday after booking a hotel room not far from campus. As much as you would've liked her to stay with you, you knew your dorm mates wouldn't approve of having her in your shared space. They knew you were talking to someone, but you were very cautious about when you talked to Kate, often doing it fairly late into the night when they were asleep or not home. You thought you were doing a good job, as they never brought up anything about it.
Either way, to not draw attention, you both decided it'd be best if you went super late at night, knowing that the second the public finds out Kate was in Minnesota, rumors would fly, and the media would go crazy. So, you came up with a shifty excuse to be out of the house at three a.m. on a random Saturday morning. You had no idea what Kate had set up, you just knew that you were meeting her at a random park near campus.
Turns out Kate had the date very planned out, from how long it would take to get from point A to point B, to where'd you'd be sitting. She took you to the beach, and even though it was dark, the sounds of the water crashing onto shore was enough for you.
Then she paid, against your will, for sushi. You went into the restaurant and you both sat in the car and ate your meal. Conversations flow smoothly all night, without a single moment of uncomfortable silence. The evening was filled with laughter and lighthearted banter, the both of you losing track of time until the sun started to bleed into the night sky.
You both were tired, tangled in the bed of Kate's truck, basking in each other's company. You were so comfortable, and you never wanted this moment to end. Kate was different from anybody else you'd ever met before. Even though this was the first time you'd even hung out with her, you wanted nothing more than to hold her forever. And to make her yours.
"What're you thinkin' about?" She asked, breaking the silence and pulling you from your thoughts. You're laying on her chest, her arms wrapped securely around your waist, holding you close.
You look up at her and find her gaze already in you. "The sun's coming up." You whispered, licking your lips. Her eyes trail down to them before finding their way back to your eyes. The way she looks at you almost makes you fold right then and there.
"Hmm." Kate responded as her eyes made their way back down to your lips and stayed there. After a moment, you brought your hand up to her cheek to direct her eyes back to yours. You smile as her face turns a bright shade of red.
"You're so pretty." She whispers as she seemingly examines your face. Now it's your turn to blush.
It almost makes you angry, the urge to kiss her lips. You want nothing more than to pour all your words into one kiss.
Fuck it.
You push your lips to hers, passionately expressing your feelings for her wordlessly. It takes her a second to process what's going on, but as soon as she does, she's melting under your touch. She's like putty in the palm of your hand at this point.
You adjust your body, lifting yourself so that the both of you are facing each other. You wrap your arm around her waist, pulling her closer and deepening the kiss. Your moment catches Kate off guard, causing her to moan lightly. You smile before pulling away.
Pants fill the air as you both attempt to catch your breath, letting the tension linger in the air. "Holy shit." Kate lets out a breathy laugh.
You chuckle with her, rubbing her waist absent-mindedly.
She rolls over back on her back, staring at the sky, you mimic her actions, sighing deeply. You can sense that the end of your date is near as the sun rises.
"I have to go." Kate whispers. You nod, reaching down and intertwining your fingers. You were right.
Over the next five months, you and Kate took turns seeing each other in the same way, at night, mostly ending up with you two touching each other (in more than one way). It was starting to get exhausting to hide it from your teammates, so eventually, Kate let it slip, and they weren't surprised. They already had their suspicions since the injury.
You weren't too pleased when she told you she'd revealed your secrets, but you were relieved that they didn't hate you. It gave you enough confidence to comfortably tell your team, who, like the Iowa team, wasn't surprised or upset at the idea of you and Kate being together.
It lifted a huge weight off your guys' chest, feeling better about leaving at two or three in the morning. The longer your relationship went on, the more comfortable you both got.
This was both good and bad, as you fell more in love with each other every day. But it also came with the desire to see each other more, which led to you both growing impatient and making sloppy mistakes. It started with you accidentally posting a picture of you holding Kate's hand on your public story instead of your close friends, like you had intended. Even though you couldn't see her face, you knew some people would be able to figure who it was, plus, at that point, it was an early relationship, and neither of you were ready for that kind of attention. Luckily, you deleted it before anyone could see it, but it was too close of a call for your liking.
Another slip-up happened a month later, where you posted a picture in Kate's hoodie, but you were able to pretend that you both happened to have the same hoodie.
The last straw, though, was Kate being recognized by a fan while pumping gas. You ducked down in the trunk as you watched the fan approach her and ask for an autograph and picture, which she agreed to.
The fan had a short conversation with her, which you later found out they had asked about why Kate was in Minnesota. The best Kate could come up with was that she was 'visiting a friend', which you teased her about her lack of an answer.
The fan posted about Kate being in Minnesota and why, and it shocked the internet. Some fans had done a deep dive and found dots that connected you to Kate, such as the hoodie picture. At this point, you both were tired of hiding, tired of not being able to go out during the daylight or support each other during games.
So you both decided it was time to let the people know.

What do you think will happen/what are your expectations for book 8?
I really wish that besides Grim, somehow Yuu also had an overblot, even without magic, maybe somehow when he is defeated Grim's blot passes to Yuu? It is said that Blot is only created by magic users, but if the blot comes from someone else, maybe it is possible for a non-magician to have an overblot, even because overblots are rare events, it makes sense that something like this would never happen before. I think it's very difficult to happen, since Yuu doesn't have a defined appearance, so they couldn't make an overblot Yuu sprite (unless it was some monstrous being without a human appearance), but it doesn't hurt to dream, right?

I don't have any specific predictions, but I expect book 8 to at the very least cover the following topics:
NRC vs RSA magift/spelldrive tournament (NRC wins?)
solving the mystery of Mickey Mouse in the mirror
Grim OB
Diasomnia returns to help us out with whatever
follow-up on Malleus's horn injury and/or character growth from book 7 (like what is he doing to repent for his actions)
Yuu has to make the choice to go home or to stay and/or something super convenient happens to keep them in Twisted Wonderland (like the reveal that they're dead or something)
reveal of Crowley's true motives
I've already spoken about my thoughts on Yuu ad nauseum but 💩 to make it clear where I stand on the question of "should Yuu have a bigger role in the main story?":
Yuu is the main character, but not the protagonist. MC =/= protagonist
Yuu is SUPPOSED to be ordinary, to show the arrogant and powerful NRC students that there is an alternative to their current methods
Yuu should be more involved, but in a way that doesn't impede the self-insert aspect of Twst + doesn't shift focus to make them the Most Important/Central Figure of Twst
I think the idea of Yuu OBing has been done quite often in fan content, but I don't think it will happen in canon. Firstly, it just cannot happen naturally since Yuu is incapable of magic (and blot is a magic byproduct). I don't think it's possible for someone to "catch" OB like it's a contagious disease either. The manga adaptation of Twst indicates that blot is caustic and literally eats away at whatever it touches, organic (grass) or inorganic (fabric, soil, etc.). It'd kill you, not corrupt you like it does with the mage from which the blot originates. Another issue is that the Phantom that arises with the blot leeches off a mage's magical energy to get by, and Yuu has none to offer. Maybe the one exception to this rule is Idia, due to the unique Shroud bloodline curse which easily munches away at the blot he accumulates and/or blot in the immediate area.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Secondly, I don't see a narrative purpose for this occurring in the script other than "it would be cool" or "it would make Yuu's presence seem ultra important". It'd also be pretty difficult to show in the narrative since each player has their own interpretation of Yuu. The OB form wouldn't fit everyone, and the post-OB flashback (assuming there is one) wouldn't be "true" of everyone either. We've never had an extended monologue of Yuu, we've never had Yuu talk at length about how they feel about being in Twst versus going home. In fact, they're given clashing dialogue options sometimes so you can pick whether your Yuu wants to stay or wants to leave.
Tumblr media
I just think it doesn't make sense to throw in a Yuu OB. It's something that's best to stay in the realm of fan art and fanfiction, in my opinion. If it were to be canonized, surely there would be fans unhappy with the execution or the representation on their own Yuusona. Like you said, doesn't hurt to dream but it's unlikely to happen, so it's probably best not to get your hopes up.

Mohg's Brain
(This is an essay on Mohg, Lord of Blood, from hit video game Elden Ring. It just takes a bit to get there.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is a story often repeated in Psychology classes, Physiology classes, pop psych media like YouTube, podcasts, and garbage daytime television on channels that used to be scientifically rigorous: about a man with an incredible brain injury. For those of you who haven't heard the story or are not yet sick of hearing it, I've included it from memory below, because I have heard it just that many times.
If you've heard this story already, you can skip to the subtitle: "Can We Even Learn Anything From Gage?"
If you already know the controversies about Phineas Gage or just want to jump to the part about the video game character, you can skip to the subtitle: "Let's FINALLY talk about Video Game"
----
"The Curious Case of Phineas Gage"
Tumblr media
Phineas Gage was a railroad worker who would help clear land with explosives. The dubious and definitely wouldn't-have-been-OSHA-approved method of laying these explosives was to chip a hole into the mountainside, place the explosives, and then tamp it down using some sort of implement like a railroad spike. What happened next was predictable and it's surprising this didn't happen much more often--when packing the explosives, they detonated in Gage's face. Specifically, this launched the spike underneath his left eye and out of the top of his head. Less predictably, Phineas stood up afterwards. When a doctor arrived, said doctor did not believe what had occurred until Gage vomited approximately a "teacupful of brain matter" onto the street.
Due to lack of effective sterilization and antibiotics at the time, poor Phineas Gage was bedridden for several months, where he continued to lose further brain matter to infection. Eventually, he did recover, although he would continue to experience migraines and seizures for the rest of his life. While he lost his job for the railroad service, he went on to work in a sideshow attraction, carrying around the very railroad spike that went through his head. Eventually, he got a job and worked as a taxi driver and lived for several more years before dying of a seizure.
Phineas Gage was never the same after this life-altering injury: he was belligerent, drunk, lied frequently, and lost his job for the railroad company because of his new personality. And I do say NEW personality--Phineas had become like a completely different person and was, in essence, "no longer Gage" (they love quoting that). The damage to regions of the prefrontal cortex made him unable to make moral judgements, and impaired his impulse control.
OR MAYBE THAT LAST PART ISN'T TRUE.
Phineas Gage was NOT much changed by this life-altering injury. Though he lost his job at the railway company, the cause of this job loss is unknown. He MAY have had severe alterations to his personality due to this injury, but whether these changes were due to physical damage or emotional trauma--or whether personality changes ACTUALLY occurred at all--are disputed.
----
Can We Even Learn Anything From Gage?
Though I am uncertain if we have exact data on which parts of his brain he was left with when accounting for what was later lost to infection, the trajectory and angle of the injury suggests he initially lost much of his prefrontal cortex. Which of the previous versions of the story are told or over/under-emphasized is dependent on the point the teller is trying to make in the age-old debate of nature vs. nurture.
Some psychologists argue that Gage's personality change demonstrates the Global Workspace Model, where different parts of the brain are responsible for different parts of consciousness, and that by changing or removing parts of the brain, you change consciousness.
Other psychologists will argue that the LACK of change is evidence of the brain's incredible plasticity--its ability to adapt and compensate for missing parts by shifting the functions of those parts to be performed by different regions.
Most reasonably, he probably experienced some cognitive differences while still being effectively the same person and is an example of both points of view. But we don't have concrete enough evidence to say.
Any class in which a teacher or textbook needs evidence to support whatever point they're trying to make about how changes to the brain affects personality, addiction, emotional regulation, decision making, etc., they'll use Gage to make that point, no matter what stance they take. So really, Gage isn't a useful case study beyond what we could actually observe: he lost some of his brain and lived, while also experiencing migraines and seizures for the rest of his life.
With all of that said, if we assume that Gage experienced no changes to cognitive function or personality, I just typed out a story I am very sick of hearing for no reason. So let's assume that at least some of those observations were true.
----
Let's FINALLY Talk About Video Game
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her are some potentially useful images to reference if you want. Left: general brain regions and their functions. Right: paranasal sinus cavities.
Unlike a nice, straight tamping iron, Mohg's horns curl in unpredictable directions. Some assumptions must be made about length, depth, and diameter to determine what region and volume of his skull is occupied by his horn. The minimum I expect is that the horn occupies the region of his frontal lobe in any scenario. Let's also set a maximum limit: I believe it is reasonable to assume it has not reached the primary motor cortex, where it would disrupt body control and physical movement... unless one wants to suggest he is puppetting himself in his boss fight like a bloodbender. Which, let's be real, IS a really badass concept, someone should write that fanfiction.
Though I argue that Gage is a bad example to use given our lack of reliable data on his personality and lived experiences, we DO know that disrupting the function of the prefrontal cortex can affect judgment, planning, concentration, and any type of higher processing you might call a uniquely 'human' mental ability (I acknowledge the mental abilities of birds and primates but they are beyond the scope of this essay). It may be safe to assume that, in Mohg's case, these mental processes are harmed regardless of any further extrapolation I make. One other brain region of note is the motor speech (Broca) area, located on the left side directly behind the prefrontal cortex and controls muscle movements for speech.
On the topic of pain, migraines, and seizures: He has a horn in his head, it probably hurts. Obstructions (like cysts) can cause buildup of cerebrospinal fluid, which can cause pain and is a common cause of seizures. It is difficult to say how many people have benign brain tumors, but there is speculation that benign tumors in the brain are unexpectedly common. People only typically get brain scans when they've already noticed a problem, but there have been cases of perfectly healthy people having (non-cancerous) brain tumors, so a mass being present in the brain does NOT guarantee seizures will occur. This being said, that horn is significantly larger than a typical benign brain tumor. Migraines and seizures are very reasonable to assume.
I don't know what to say about illness and disease. In theory, if the horn grew at any point after birth, I would say he should have died from any pathogens that were introduced during its corkscrewing into his skull. Phineas Gage was bedridden for months due to infection, was under the care of a doctor, and he wasn't living in a sewer. Do the Lands Between understand the germ theory of disease? It may at least know that poop in the brain is bad, but I listen to Sawbones, so I know that isn't something we can just assume. It's possible he's lost some impossible-to-estimate amount of brain matter to infection. Feel free to speculate about Omen resistance to pathogens, but I don't feel that is the point of this essay. I'll say it's safe to assume his body has healed closed around it, but anything else I won't try to extrapolate.
----
Specificity from Horn Trajectory
Possibility 1:
Tumblr media
If we estimate the continued trajectory from the visible part of the horn, it actually continues medially, towards the center of the body, and curls downward. This might even miss most of the brain and instead disrupt the frontal, ethmoidal, and maxillary sinus cavities of the skull.
It may possibly even pierce the roof of the mouth, if we roughly estimate the rate at which the horn tapers and where it likely ends. I argue that this is the most optimistic scenario in terms of his health, because although the horn almost certainly penetrates the prefrontal cortex, it may not be as deep as other possibilities.
In this horn trajectory case, he probably experiences constant sinus pressure similar to a permanent head cold, obstruction to his sense of smell, and by extension his sense of taste. Even if the horn does not completely block his nasal cavity, it may have damaged his olfactory nerve and thus disabled his sense of smell anyway. Should the horn obstruct his mouth he may experience physical difficulties eating and speaking.
Possibility 2:
Tumblr media
A worse scenario may be to assume this horn instead extends directly backwards. This would likely pass through the motor speech area, and may have caused him to lose the ability to talk, forcing him to relearn how to speak by having another part of the brain learn to do this function (similar to how anyone learns a second language after very early childhood). It may also reach the LEFT temporal lobe, which processes hearing and smell for the RIGHT side of the body, and therefore he could be deaf in his right ear. Again, the olfactory nerve is potentially in the path of the horn, and loss of sense of smell is frequently considered a symptom of brain damage, so regardless of the angle of the horn this is a high possibility.
----
What Time of Horn Growth Could Tell Us
Children are more likely to recover well from brain damage. The older he was when the horn entered his brain, the more likely he would be to experience cognitive impairment.
Should Mohg's horn have developed that way before birth, his brain may have formed around it without issue, or obstructed regions may have simply remained underdeveloped. His skull would also have developed to more 'comfortably' accommodate this horn, rather than having to break and re-heal around a later intrusion. If the horn is shallow enough and its growth occurred during fetal development or very early childhood before the fusing of the bones in the skull, it is possible that left eye blindness and mild discomfort are the only effects. The timing of the horn's growth being before birth or in early infancy is supported by the Regal Omen Bairn, which shows Morgott with seemingly all of his horns, suggesting that omens horns are largely present upon birth and that those horns grow in proportion with them.
However, given the themes associated with the Formless Mother, here is another--vastly more speculative--hypothesis: Mohg's horn was grown deliberately into his skull by the influence of the Formless Mother, perhaps with or without his consent. I find it hard to believe that a force claimed to be the "mother of truth" which "desires a wound" would be unaware of the possible effects of this type of wound.
I posit that the Formless Mother intended to compromise Mohg's consciousness and sense of reason to make him easier to manipulate. If we assume that they were not working together (debatable), the abduction of Miquella and potential interruption and sabotage of his ascension puts an empyrean under the Formless Mother's control, and works counter to the dynasty Mohg desires. Damage to his ability to plan, make rational decisions, and his sense of morality could explain how Mohg seems to want a place for outcast and hated people, likely seeing a kinship with Miquella, but has created something that is the antithesis to the Haligtree.
Furthermore, should we assume that Mohg and Miquella met previously and Miquella had the opportunity to do so, the power Miquella purportedly has to compel adoration in others may have interacted poorly with Mohg's potentially impaired emotional processing, and could have caused an obsessive outcome that the Formless Mother did not predict.
Of course, I don't believe every awful and cruel decision someone makes is the result of brain damage, but this may explain the incongruity between what Mohg seems to want and what he has made. Whether Mohg is "the reigning lord and hierarch of the coming dynasty of Mohgwyn" or "a raving lunatic" may not be an incompatible dichotomy. It may be sequential.
----
Glassbirdfeather you're so wrong, why did you say ___?
I am not a doctor. I am a chemistry student with a biology lean (clinical laboratory science) and am drawing my conclusions from what I've learned in Anatomy, Physiology, and Psychology classes at an introductory level, and I glanced back at my anatomy and psychology textbooks as my sole academic sources. Please don't take this as a well-researched essay, none of the claims I make about mental or physical health are properly cited. This is just fandom theorizing; it's as academically rigorous as fanfiction. Any doctor/member of the medical profession who would like to correct me is invited to do so, I would love to hear more accurate and informed observations.

Western Astrology vs. Vedic Astrology: What’s the Difference?
Ever wondered why your Vedic sign is different from your Western zodiac? Let's break it down!
Western Astrology (Tropical Zodiac)
Based on the Earth's seasons, not the fixed stars. 🌍
Uses the tropical zodiac, which shifts over time due to Earth's wobble (precession).
Your Sun sign is determined by the position of the Sun at your time of birth. ☀
Popular in modern horoscopes and psychological astrology. 🧠
Vedic Astrology (Jyotish or Sidereal Zodiac)
Rooted in ancient Indian tradition and aligned with the fixed stars. ✹
Uses the sidereal zodiac, which accounts for planetary shifts over thousands of years.
Includes nakshatras (lunar mansions) and dashas (planetary periods) for deep life predictions. đŸ•‰ïž
Focuses on karma, destiny, and spiritual growth. 🌿
🌟 So why are your signs different?
The tropical zodiac (Western) drifts due to axial precession, meaning it has moved about 24 degrees away from the sidereal zodiac (Vedic).
Example: If you're a Leo (Western), you might actually be a Cancer (Vedic)! đŸ˜Č
đŸ’« Which one should you follow?
Western → Great for self-discovery, psychology, and personality insights.
Vedic → More predictive, destiny-focused, and spiritually deep.
✹ Both have value! Astrology is a tool—use what resonates with you. 🌙
Now comparing the birth chart of my recent client(with their consent) born on June 14, 1999, at 8:54 AM in Charlottesville, Virginia, United States, reveals notable differences between Western (Tropical) and Vedic (Sidereal) astrology systems.
First let's focus on western astrology(Placidus) :
Tumblr media
Dominant Element: Fire ; Dominant Planet : Sun
Sun in 23° 2' Gemini in 11th house:
The Sun at 23°16' Gemini reflects a highly communicative, curious, and adaptable nature, with a sharp intellect and a love for gathering and sharing information. At 23 degrees suggests a person who thrives in social settings, enjoys intellectual debates, and possesses a restless drive for knowledge. There may be a strong ability to juggle multiple interests, but focus and depth could be challenges.
They shine in social circles, networking, and visionary pursuits. They thrive in communities, attracting diverse connections and using their quick wit to inspire collective ideas and change.
Moon in 3° 32' Cancer in 12 house:
They may suppress or hide their feelings, often feeling emotionally isolated or misunderstood. Dreams, subconscious patterns, and past-life karma play a big role in their inner world. They may be highly empathetic, drawn to spiritual or healing work, but must be mindful of emotional escapism or tendencies toward self-sacrifice. Solitude is both a source of healing and a challenge.
Mercury in 13° 28' Cancer in 12th house:
It makes for a deeply intuitive and introspective mind. Thoughts are emotionally driven, and communication tends to be private, poetic, or even subconscious. They may struggle to express themselves openly, preferring to write, dream, or reflect rather than speak.
This placement is excellent for creative writing, psychology, or spiritual pursuits, but there’s a risk of overthinking, secrecy, or feeling misunderstood. Their intuition is strong, often picking up on unspoken emotions or hidden truths.
Venus in 8° 21' Leo in 1st house:
It gives a charismatic, magnetic, and naturally attractive personality. They exude confidence, warmth, and charm, often drawing people in with their radiant presence. Romantic, passionate, and expressive in love, they enjoy being admired and appreciated. A love for luxury, beauty, and creativity is strong, making them naturally stylish or artistically inclined. However, they may sometimes crave validation or attention in relationships. When balanced, they embody self-love and effortlessly attract admiration.
Mars in 25° 7' Libra in 4th house:
They are protective of their personal space and may feel the need to take charge in domestic matters. This placement can indicate a desire for harmony at home, but also passive-aggressiveness or difficulty expressing anger directly. They may thrive in careers related to real estate, interior design, or working from home.
Jupiter in 27° 37' Aries in 10th house:
They are driven to achieve big things, often taking risks in their career and pioneering their own path. Confidence and enthusiasm help them rise to leadership roles, but they must watch out for impatience or overconfidence. This placement favors careers in entrepreneurship, politics, sports, or any field where they can be independent and take initiative. Luck and growth come through courage, action, and a fearless approach to public life.
Saturn in 12° 34'Taurus in 10th house of Aries:
They may face early career struggles or heavy responsibilities but can build long-lasting achievements with effort. Stability and financial security are key motivators, and they thrive in structured, reliable professions like finance, real estate, government, or business leadership. They must overcome self-doubt and embrace their ability to create a strong professional legacy.
Uranus in 16° 34' Aquarius in 7th house (r):
A revolutionary thinker, wired for innovation and breaking the norm—but with the retrograde twist, this rebellion often happens inwardly first. Instead of loud disruptions, they challenge conventions in their mind, questioning society’s rules before deciding when (or if) to shake things up externally.
It brings unconventional, unpredictable relationships and a need for freedom in partnerships. They attract eccentric or groundbreaking individuals, and commitment may come with sudden changes, breakthroughs, or a non-traditional dynamic.
Neptune in 3° 59' Aquarius in 7th house (r):
They dream of a utopian future but questions if it's truly possible. The retrograde motion deepens the introspection, making them quietly idealistic—lost in visions of change yet skeptical about whether the world (or they) are ready for it.
It creates dreamy, idealistic relationships where boundaries can blur. They may attract spiritually connected or elusive partners, learning to balance fantasy with reality in their commitments.
Pluto in 8° 44' Sagittarius in 5th house of Scorpio (r):
A deep, internal quest for truth, power, and transformation. The retrograde intensifies this journey, making them question beliefs, challenge societal norms, and undergo profound personal revolutions—often in private before unleashing their wisdom on the world.
It brings intense creativity, passionate romances, and transformative self-expression. Love, art, and pleasure are deeply personal and can trigger profound change, with a tendency for dramatic emotional rebirths.
North Node in 15° 40' Leo (r) in 2nd house of Leo:
It points to a life path centered on developing self-worth, confidence, and financial independence. They are meant to embrace their talents, take pride in their abilities, and step into a role where they are recognized for their value. This placement encourages them to move away from relying on others for validation or security and instead build a strong, authentic sense of self. Wealth and success come when they fully own their creativity, leadership, and personal power.
Chiron in 29° 6' Scorpio in 5th house (r):
It suggests deep wounds related to self-expression, love, creativity, or children. There may be fears of vulnerability in romance, struggles with confidence in artistic talents, or past heartbreaks that left lasting scars. This placement can also indicate karmic lessons around intimacy and trust. Healing comes through embracing personal passions, transforming pain into creative outlets, and learning to love fearlessly. When balanced, they can guide others through their own emotional wounds, especially in love and artistic pursuits.
Ascendant in 1° 31' Leo:
They shine with natural charisma, confidence, and a presence that demands attention. Born to stand out, they radiate warmth and leadership—whether commanding a stage or just walking into a room like it's their personal spotlight.
MC in 18° 51' Aries:
They forge a career path driven by ambition, independence, and fearless action. They thrive in leadership roles, carve their own way, and aren’t afraid to take risks—because waiting around isn’t part of the plan.
Some important aspects:(I can't cover every single aspect here and keeping the overall post as short as possible)
Neptune Opposition Ascendant: It creates a mystique in relationships—people may see them as a dream, a healer, or, at times, an enigma. Boundaries can blur in partnerships, attracting both deep soul connections and illusions, making discernment crucial. Others project their fantasies onto them, but not every fairytale is real.
Jupiter Square Ascendant: It can indicate a tendency to overestimate oneself or take on too much, leading to issues with overconfidence or exaggerated expectations in relationships. While they are naturally charismatic and optimistic, they may struggle with boundaries, attracting both admiration and challenges. Growth comes when they learn to balance their expansive nature with humility and self-awareness.
Saturn Square North Node: It suggests challenges in aligning one's long-term goals with the lessons of life. There may be a sense of restriction or karmic delays preventing progress toward the true life purpose. This aspect often indicates that personal growth requires overcoming obstacles related to discipline, responsibility, or authority figures. Success comes through embracing hard work, patience, and the courage to break free from past limitations to follow the destined path.
Venus Conjunct Ascendant:
It gives a charming, magnetic, and attractive personality. They come across as graceful, friendly, and loving, often making strong first impressions. This aspect enhances their social skills, and they are likely to be well-liked and popular. They have a natural sense of style and an appreciation for beauty, making them drawn to artistic or creative pursuits. In relationships, they tend to be affectionate, seeking harmony and balance, and often attract love easily.
Mars Opposition Jupiter: They may struggle with overconfidence or taking on too much. This aspect often leads to a push-pull between action and overextension—while they are eager to take risks and pursue big goals, they can sometimes act impulsively or without fully considering the consequences. Success comes when they learn to temper their enthusiasm with patience and practicality, avoiding reckless decisions.
Chiron Trine Ascendant: This aspect gives an empathetic and compassionate nature, making them naturally able to connect with and support others in their emotional journeys. They may also experience self-healing through their relationships and can often find strength in their past wounds, using them as a source of wisdom and growth. This harmonious aspect allows them to embrace their true self and radiate confidence while helping others heal.
Possible careers: Actor, performer, entrepreneur, motivational speaker, creative director, artist, public relations manager, event planner, fashion designer, teacher, CEO, director, marketing strategist, influencer, brand ambassador, musician, athlete, politician, stylist, child care specialist, director of non-profits, journalist, interior designer.
Love/relationships and sexuality: They are drawn to unique, open-minded partners who embrace individuality and freedom, but may struggle with maintaining realistic expectations. There’s a strong desire for intellectual and spiritual connection, making love both experimental and transcendent. However, sudden changes and idealization can lead to disillusionment, especially if reality doesn't match their dreams. Sexuality is imaginative, free-spirited, and often based on deep emotional or intellectual bonds. LGBTQIA+ relationships can be seen here.
Now let's interpret them in Vedic astrology:
Tumblr media
Dominant Element: Water ; Dominant Planet: Mars
Sun in Taurus 29°11’ in 11th house:
It brings strong ambitions, leadership in social circles, and financial gains through influential connections. Taurus Sun gives a stable, practical mindset with a love for luxury and material success. Being at the last degree, it may indicate a karmic lesson around self-worth and wealth accumulation. The 11th house placement enhances networking abilities, making them well-connected in society. However, they should watch for ego clashes in friendships and groups. These people could be surrounded by people and could still feel lonely. They have little to no friends.
Moon in Gemini 9°42’ in 12th house:
Here, it creates a restless, imaginative mind that thrives in solitude but can struggle with overthinking. The 12th house placement gives a deep subconscious world, making them highly intuitive, spiritually inclined, or drawn to foreign lands. Emotional fulfillment may come through meditation, travel, or creative expression, but there’s a tendency to feel emotionally isolated or misunderstood. Sleep issues or vivid dreams are common, as the mind is always active. They must balance their thoughts to avoid anxiety.
Mercury in 19°37’ in 12th house:
It brings a sharp but inwardly focused intellect, making them deep thinkers, writers, or spiritually inclined communicators. The 12th house placement can lead to overactive thoughts, secretive tendencies, or a preference for working behind the scenes. They may excel in research, foreign affairs, psychology, or careers related to spirituality and mysticism. However, there’s a risk of mental exhaustion, escapism, or difficulty expressing thoughts clearly in public. Meditation and structured thinking can help balance their mind.
Venus in Cancer 14°30 in 1st house:
It blesses them with charm, beauty, and a naturally attractive aura. They have a warm, loving personality and value deep emotional connections in relationships. This placement brings artistic talent, refined tastes, and a love for luxury, comfort, and nurturing environments. Romantic by nature, they seek a caring and devoted partner but can be sensitive to emotional ups and downs. Their presence is magnetic, making them well-liked and socially graceful.
Mars in Libra 1°16 in 4th house:
They may have a dynamic or even tense family environment, with a strong desire to assert control at home. Mars in Libra seeks balance in relationships but can struggle with indecisiveness or passive-aggressive tendencies. This placement also gives interest in property, real estate, or working from home. However, emotional fluctuations and occasional conflicts with family members need to be managed with patience.
Jupiter in Aries 3°46’ in 10th house:
They are driven, confident, and naturally authoritative, often excelling in law, teaching, entrepreneurship, or leadership roles. Jupiter in Aries adds boldness and a pioneering spirit, making them unafraid to take risks for career growth. This placement also brings good fortune and respect in society, but they must avoid overconfidence or impatience in professional matters. A career in government, finance, or advisory roles suits them well.
Saturn in Aries 18°43’ in 10th house:
Saturn is debilitated in Aries, meaning they may struggle with impatience, authority issues, or feeling restricted in their profession. However, with discipline and perseverance, they can build a solid reputation and achieve great heights, often later in life. This placement favors structured careers like government, law, engineering, or management, but they must learn patience and persistence to avoid career setbacks.
Uranus in Capricorn 22°43’ in 7th house(r):
They may attract eccentric, independent, or highly ambitious partners, and marriage could either be unusual or come unexpectedly. Commitment may feel restrictive at times, leading to sudden changes or breaks in relationships. They prefer partnerships that offer freedom, growth, and innovation, and may even thrive in business collaborations rather than traditional romantic setups. Adaptability is key to maintaining stability in love and marriage.
Neptune in Capricorn 10°08’ in 7th house(r):
They may have a deep desire for a soulmate-like connection but can struggle with seeing partners clearly, leading to illusions or unrealistic expectations in love. There’s a tendency to attract partners who are spiritual, artistic, or elusive, and they must be cautious of deception or one-sided commitments. Marriage or business partnerships may involve secrecy, distance, or an element of fantasy. Clarity and discernment are crucial to avoid disappointment.
Pluto in Scorpio 14°53’ in 5th house(r):
It gives intense, transformative experiences in love, creativity, and self-expression. Romantic relationships may be deeply passionate, obsessive, or life-changing, often involving power struggles or karmic lessons. There is a strong creative force, making them drawn to artistic, mystical, or research-based fields. They may also have a profound connection with children or experience major changes related to them(disability, autism or just unexpected pregnancy). This placement fuels a desire for depth in all pleasures of life, but they must balance intensity with emotional stability.
North Node in Cancer 21°50’ in 1st house:
This placement pushes them toward self-growth, emotional independence, and embracing their nurturing side. They may feel a deep urge to be seen, take leadership roles, or reinvent themselves multiple times in life. However, there can be struggles with self-doubt, fluctuating confidence, or over-identifying with external validation. Learning to trust their instincts and balance personal needs with relationships is key to their life path.
Chiron in Scorpio 5°16’ in 5th house(r):
There may have been painful experiences in romance, struggles with vulnerability, or a fear of fully expressing one’s passions. This placement can also indicate challenges connected to children or difficulties in trusting the flow of joy and pleasure in life. Healing comes through embracing transformation, creative outlets, and learning to open the heart without fear of loss.
Some important aspects:
Sun Trine Mars: It creates a powerful blend of confidence, energy, and leadership ability. This aspect gives a strong will, determination, and natural courage to take initiative in life. They are action-oriented, ambitious, and can easily assert themselves without coming across as aggressive. This is a great placement for careers in leadership, entrepreneurship, sports, or any field requiring physical and mental strength. Their enthusiasm and drive inspire others, making them natural leaders.
Moon Conjunct Mercury:
They have a quick-thinking mind, a natural gift for writing, speaking, or teaching, and an ability to express emotions clearly. However, this can also lead to overthinking, mood swings, or a tendency to rationalize feelings instead of processing them. Their memory is strong, and they may excel in fields like journalism, psychology, or business. If well-placed, this conjunction brings charm and wit, but if afflicted, it can create inner restlessness.

1.5.13 is the moment we can point at to help put to bed the justice vs mercy re-interpretation of Javert and Valjean’s dynamic and the Javert as legalistic fanatic take, and it’s when a lot of the self-representation from Javert we read in 1.5.5 and will hear in 1.6.2 gets countered. A great chapter for me, personally. To ramble about it a li’l, predictably,
So, the justice vs mercy take, right? That’s the musical and it’s a lot of Christian conservatives. You can see this most clearly where we have conservative Christians speaking about the musical and conflating the justice system (human, legal, historical) with Justice (in the context of the Hugolian moral framework, also human!, profoundly nonlegal and ahistorical, divine insofar as Man and the Infinite can be in bed with each other), seeing Javert as Justice, and arguing for his moral superiority, though you’ll find ’em reading the Brick and getting to the same point, somehow. People who hear but the tigers come at night—their voices soft as thunder— and respond “this is the problem with the welfare state” are clearly not existing in the same world of ethics as your average Les MisĂ©rables fan, but the musical creates that narrative, right? Javert is morally wrong, there, but here’s this really loving and smart adaptation of the Brick that still looks at his character and reads him as being at core about (flawed) justice. This is good narrative sense. Justice vs mercy is easy punchy. It’s not, I think, what the Brick is doing, because the Brick has room—a lot, lot of room—to be more than quick in its punches.
Thinking this through: if Javert represents (flawed) Justice that could be tempered by Mercy and become a moral man (this is Shoujo Cosette’s happy ending for him, and that of many a fanfic), we’re positing something that doesn’t exist in the Hugolian framework: the justice system as righteous. Whether or not you think there can be a righteous police, I don’t think Les MisĂ©rables does—arguably that’s the sum of Javert’s character,  making that point. We pile on these positive characteristics (honesty, self-abnegation, probity) so that we can get to “the evil of the good” or “the evil of goodness” (depending on whether you want the Hapgood or Donougher, 1.8.4): so long as you operate as an agent of this system, you cannot be anything but a part of that evil, an expression of it.
Look at it this way: “one guy is bad at tempering justice with mercy” is an interesting story if you’re into the guy, but it’s not a sprawling moral point, eh? It’s the characters as symbols and people simultaneously deal. We get “this guy is the hands of the Justice System, applied scrupulously” instead.
As an aside, a bit: we get a flash of how the justice system (you know, the legal thing, the societal thing) can’t be the solution to vice and violence & Marius’ speedrun of the same thought in 3.8.20, when he realizes by summoning the police he’s committing a person to suffering—and because Marius is a fuck, it took a personal connection and obligation with ThĂ©nardier to realize the point, but he still attempts a different solution (which is—still the threat of the cognes, and doesn’t work—certainly not to save Madame T from dying miserably). Note here that Marius doesn’t think, ah shit!, that guy Javert is Flawed Justice Incarnate; he goes, fuck!, it’s going to hurt the guy who saved my dad if the justice system gets its hands on him at all; whether or not the legalistic justice was the most or least tempered by mercy here don’t matter.

Did I hear someone in back shout ‘get to the part with Fantine, asshole’? All right, all right.
This is the legalistic bit. You may have your autistic legal scholar Javert (genuinely a subtype I find entertaining in fanfic), your ’35, your “the book of regulations are my Bible [. . .] never would I fail in my duty to the law” and “I administer the law: good, bad, or indifferent, it’s no business of mine—but the law to the letter” (Laughton’s Javert is the closest movie representation of a certain stripe of fandom Javert, in this essay I will—), but in 1.5.13 it’s Valjean who quotes the regulations from memory and appeals to the concept of “properly conducted police”: Javert notably doesn’t try to engage with the question at all, but retorts that Fantine is a misĂ©rables—he thinks that Fantine’s insult of the mayor is in itself enough to justify her jailing for assaulting Bamatabois (?); when his attempt to remind Madeleine how this game goes (bourgeois-and-the-law as a unit against the misĂ©rables) is rejected, he essentially reiterates the same point: it’s his duty to punish insults to the bourgeois by a woman of Fantine’s class regardless of the context (see: Valjean hasn’t contested that Fantine attacked Bamatabois, but who was at fault—Javert is not interested in fault, only insult and class).
How different does 1.5.12 go if Fantine is a bourgeois woman who Bamatabois heckles, eh? And remember: while you could make the argument that Fantine could be doing unregulated sex work, I think it’s a fair bet she’s registered as a filles publique and not breaking the law, here, merely by being on the job.
Now: don’t take this as me saying Javert doesn’t know how to be a properly-conducted police officer. He’s far more educated on that point than Valjean; he understands better than your average dog how to do that trick. And that’s the point.
Which isn’t to say that your ’98 greasy villain Javert is a better adaptation than the musical (god! no); ’98 believes that Javert doesn’t know his business. A good police, says ’98, would know not to use so much hair gel. Again: Brick Javert’s the best at what he does. That’s the point.

THE RUMORS WERE TRUE, IT WAS ME ALL ALONG
This was so fun, I had so much fun being a menace to @secret-third-thing. It was really hard at times because we do interact outside of these Santa and giftee interactions and I had to constantly make sure I remembered what Santa knew vs what daycourtofficial knew (which is very difficult when SOMEONE will ask you the same question as both identities)
STT actually accused me of being her Santa very early in and I’m actually pretty sure she figured it out in 8 hours (sorry I’m such an icon I’m so easily identifiable 😘). I was SCRAMBLING to make her think it wasn’t me - I even adapted small differences in writing, changing how I spoke, and lying my ass off constantly. I really thought I had botched the whole thing three days in, HOWEVER, I kept going because I thought it was fun and ultimately I really didn’t care if she knew it was me.
Want to give a big thanks to the moderators @acotargiftexchange - thank you so much for your hard work matching people and double thanks for matching me with STT. No one could have predicted this but boy do I hope yall enjoyed the show.
Thank you to all who have been following along. I hope you got lots of enjoyment out of this and were wrong about who I was.
Biggest thanks to @secret-third-thing for matching my freak. I did not expect my recipient to force me to take an ABO quiz, but here we are. When I had signed up for Secret Santa, I did so hoping I would get you and by god was it more fun than I had anticipated. You are a freak and I love you dearly for it.
PS you’ll get your fic in a minute, I know you have to scream about this first
Sleigh it ain’t so,
Santa (@daycourtofficial)

Do you have any tips for how a smaller person should look for advantages while fighting against someone bigger than them? Both in height and weight (from a normal human perspective and, if possible, also from like, as an example, an average human man against a nine foot tall humanoid).
I know I'm going to sound like a broken record here, because we say it a lot, but having a lower center of gravity is a significant advantage in its own right. It makes throwing or knocking down your opponent much easier, and conversely, makes disrupting your own stance much harder.
The theoretical advantages you'll often see dragged out, like, “greater reach,” or, “superior strength,” don't really matter in a human vs. human match-up, because the differences aren't really that pronounced.
Someone who's nine feet tall is a little more significant. Match-ups like that are really hard to generalize in abstract because a lot of assumptions don't necessarily hold true. If the humanoid has significantly longer reach (which is likely) that could pose a real problem for any unarmed combat. Similarly center of gravity and strength could be significantly different from what you'd expect in a human. When you remember you're talking about a being that is 50% larger than you are, the problems start stacking up. You're talking about someone who will have over a foot of reach on you. If their physiology is exactly the same, and joint locks work without meaningful adaptation, that might give you some options, but the less human their physiology is, the harder that prediction becomes. For example: If they have a structure more like a gorilla, with very heavy, and significantly longer, forelimbs, that fight could become completely unwinnable. (At least, without developing specific martial arts to deal with that foe.
A joke I've made in the past is, “there no martial art designed for fighting bears,” but when you're dealing with non-human combatants, that absence would become a real problem.

ok probably no wip wed this fine wed, but i'll offer something else - unhinged rambling about jujtusu. and if you read FIYM that's probably what you're here for anyway.
gege gojo vs sukuna - what's goin' on here?
Tumblr media
so...
why greg why?
i actually don't have an issue with the "gojo got distracted and made a mistake" concept, but here, it doesn't work. we're gonna have to death of the author this one (i'm american, i can get a gun). i think, even if gege thinks that, it's not really what we saw go down on the page.
so, first, getting distracted fits fine with gojo's character:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
given that gege bait and switched the entire audience, sure, he could have also bait and switched gojo.
the thing is, though, he didn't need to. World-Cutting Slash fundamentally worked differently than sukuna's prior attacks in order to get around gojo's infinity. he couldn't have predicted that, and also couldn't have instantly determined how it worked upon seeing it (nearly instantaneously) come out.
hypothetically, he could have countered WCS by teleporting away... but it doesn't really make sense to do that unless he magically knows that this one is different, which - i'm not convinced the six eyes give him enough information to make that determination. the six eyes don't even tell him about kenjaku's ct. why would they reveal the specifics of sukuna's adaptation?
Tumblr media
anyway, you're telling me this freak ^^^ could have jujutsu'd his way out of this situation and didn't? his whole thing (in sukuna's fight AND in toji's), is that he is single minded in his pursuit of jujutsu perfection. he is energized and heightened by the danger - he thrives in it. girlie was locked in. i think if there was a way he could counter WCS in that instant, then he would have been able to do it.
what i could be convinced of, though, is that gojo was too distracted to RCT heal his bisection quickly enough to live. but i'm still not sure he wins that fight overall with WCS. but this sort of makes sense, because given what happens just prior (black flashes and hollow purple), it doesn't seem like he's out of CE or anything. and yes, healing a bisection is a big ask, but i could see him being able to do it. he is the strongest.
final verdicts:
gojo was too distracted to avoid WCS - bullshit 10/10
gojo was too distracted to win - maybe, but we'd have to see some big adaptations from him in the ensuing fight (lots of teleporting)
gojo was too distracted to live - sure, i buy that
in conclusion, these redditors have it absolutely right:
Tumblr media
extras:
Tumblr media
this is actual insanity. kashimo is a fraud. i sort of get it, kind of. it depends. if sukuna knows about kashimo's pocket Mythical Beast: Amber, then I can see Sukuna being slightly unsure. but this motherfucker also raw-dogged mahoraga, so like... idk man. is this sukuna's impostor syndrome era?
i understand why kashimo went after gojo (for sukuna's transformation). but i would have put kashimo first since his fight was so tiny and immaterial. maybe that's the point, but i think it threw off the story flow. but i think the kids should have forced sukuna's transformation, not random space bun lightning motherfucker from 2000 and late.
(i did like the sukuna-kashimo post-death convo though)
Tumblr media
BRO I FUCKING HOPE SO WHAT. HOW IS THAT A QUESTION. (sorry, I am extremely outline-pilled). i hate you greg i hate you.
Tumblr media
this is so fucking funny though. nevermind greg, we're good.

Can you do Bella Hadid marriage prediction? I’m just curious lol and her birth time is confirmed by her.
Bella Hadid - Marriage Prediction
Tumblr media
Spouse Meeting:
They could be far from their birthplace - possibly abroad. 7th H ruler (Saturn) in 8th conjunct Ketu - Ketu gives separation & 8th H shows life after marriage/relationship.
They may first meet while in relationships & cross paths years later.
Rahu is influencing her 7th H ruler. Rahu creates illusions - this can indicate the couple will lie about their relationship meeting/timeline.
OR Rahu is fogging up the details because she is simply not meant to know. So if Bella were to go to an astrologer, she'd likely be given an incorrect or no answer if she asked where she'd meet her spouse. This information is not meant to be known to her to allow the events to unfold.
Spouse Appearance:
He is likely tall. Lean to skinny in appearance. He may have a mix of masculine and feminine features. This could be in style or mannerisms too.
He is likely concerned with his hygiene/grooming. He may have curly hair. At some point, he may wear/have worn a longer than norm hairstyle He may have a medium-light skin complexion for his race.
Prominent chin - ex: dot or cut in the chin. pointy chin, butt chin.
He is likely from a different background than her - this does not always mean someone from a different country or ethnicity. Simply, he is culturally brought up differently from her.
Spouse Background + Family + Personality:
He is likely very financially successful. At some point in his life, he may start a business. The product would likely be something used regularly potentially for health improvement. He likely invests in companies too.
He has a very good relationship with his family. He may see his parents as his friends. He may be the youngest or an only child - or he may have a younger brother but this relationship would experience ups and downs. It is possible this is a half-sibling.
He may have/eventually create a bad reputation among the general public - this can amongst his social networks or on a large scale like social media.
He has a dual nature - he can present very differently in public vs private. He is likely private and will influence who and how she communicates. For example, he may influence what she posts online, he may direct her to work with certain people or companies.
He is a curious and adaptable person. He can constantly be trying new things. He is very witty and intelligent. He likely has completed a high level of education - possibly from a very notable school.
Children:
She may have many children - she could potentially have a step-children at some point too. Her children will be healthy.
First Child: Likely a son. Physically tall. He will do well financially. He will be close to his parents and they will influence his career path. He will gain status and respect - he may choose to embrace fame, he may start his own business. He will marry someone who is career-orientated, culturally different from him and likely younger.
Second Child: Likely a son too. May live more private compared to the brother after some public mishaps. He may often experience conflict with his younger sibling.
Third Child: Likely a son. He may have a karmic relationship with Bella. Overall, he will have a loving relationship with both parents. He may marry a model or actress - he'll marry someone very beautiful.
Married Life:
She may have an unique aspect to her wedding - maybe they marry abroad, or include unique cultural traditions or designs.
She can experience a lot of anxiety that will disrupt her peace and sleep.
She will live a very luxurious lifestyle.
Marriage Timing:
2025-2027 - Age 28-30
This spans her Mercury, Ketu & Venus bhukti periods. This shows important events regarding relationships. This can indicate meeting, breaking up, engagement or marriage depending on which phase of life she is in.
2029, 2031-2035. -Age 33, 35-38:
She has a few delayed marriage indicators. Thus, these later dates may be more favourable for a long-lasting marriage. But usually people do not marry in their favorables year - in vedic this is because marriage is seen as a karmic (good & bad) clearing you are meant to be complete.
Divorce Potential:
7th H ruler (Saturn) in 8th H and D9 Saturn in First House indicate a long-lasting marriage.
However, D9 3rd H ruler (Mars) in 6th H, and D9 First House ruler in 6th House, D9 7th H ruler in 12th H indicate divorce.
She will see marriage as a responsibility. Her married life will experience dull periods where the relationship/life lacks excitement and pleasure. At this point, marriage will feel like a burden. They are likely to attempt to fix their martial issues, however they may decide to separate after a very long marriage.

Reading Violet Evergarden as an autistic woman
Tumblr media
Spoilers for Violet Evergarden
Violet Evergarden, a Kyoto Animation production adapting a light novel series of the same name, makes a strong case as an incredibly poignant, emotional, evocative view into the  experiences of autistic women. In the series, main character Violet displays many traits that are highly identified with autism overall, including difficulties in reciprocal communication, struggles with emotional empathy vs cognitive empathy, blunt and literalistic communication, and a flat affect that is seen as off-putting by others. While it’s not necessarily overtly intended, one reading of Violet Evergarden is that the series explores the notion that the ways that empathy can be expressed by neurodivergent women are not inferior to those expressed by neurotypical individuals.
While Violet wasn’t specifically written with her being an autistic woman in mind, I feel she exhibits multiple traits from the very beginning of the series and is someone that autistic individuals, especially anyone who identifies as feminine, can see themselves in. The series begins with Violet not only separated from the military at the end of a war, but also from the Major—the one stabilizing force in her life who gave her orders, routine, and structure, but was also paradoxically the first of many people to show her kindness. The Major, his orders, and the structure of the military are predictable and regulated for Violet and soothe her anxieties. With her arms replaced by prosthetics, she demands to be given orders out of a desire to seek what’s familiar to her. Without this specific, and necessary, structure, she is adrift in expectations of allistic behavior.

interesting but predictable how some of the inherent uncanny valley strangeness of bringing something that exists in the chronically online space into the real world can manifest. I’ve noticed this at all the other tours of theirs as well - some people can have a hard time separating internet behaviors from irl behaviors, and the sudden merging of these compartmentalized ways of being (online vs offline) can be hard to navigate.
I think it can also make people uncomfortable to see their comedic silly billie faves being serious, and there’s a dissonance to seeing them, these characters who live on our screens, along with the audience around you who are typically just avatars and usernames shitposting in lowercase, all suddenly in the same physical room. And suddenly that often completely disparate, scattered, semi-anonymous community needs to adapt to social mores and group norms in a new social context. It’s taking a community with its own set of rules that were designed for and in response to a digital landscape and plonking it into a completely alien environment. And yeah, we’re all humans who exist in public outside of our internet lives, but it’s different when that happens but you’re still in the context of the phandom.
Which I think is what leads to things like shouting out rly profane, out of pocket things during the quieter moments of their shows. because if you comment something like that online, you won’t rly be interrupting anything. you might be ignored, you might get some laughs, maybe you’ll get a notice bc haha unhinged right. Or like treating an evacuation drill as a lol pass the tea yas mommy daniel moment instead of an oh we’re actually here in real life moment.
I went back to my tatinof review bc I remembered writing this - “someone behind me kept screaming at them to "GET NAKED" (particularly during silences in the 7 second challenge) to which everyone in my area responded with claps and laughter.” During my second TIT show, there were people around me who wolf whistled and shouted “kinky” and “ayo ok freaky” during totally inappropriate moments. I remember during Dan’s quieter bits of WAD people could not seem to just stay silent. (I have suffered complete amnesia when it comes to ii so I can’t speak to any part of that experience lol.) after the preshow and during intermission at tit, I heard separate people at separate times making a range of critical comments about Dan and Phil’s bodies in ways that were downright shocking and not how I hope they’d typically feel comfortable speaking about other humans.
I think on the whole, phannies are so lovely and kind to one another. I feel deep gratitude for this community. And I know this isn’t just a phandom thing; I think how we treat one another in public spaces has generally really eroded, and concert etiquette has become abysmally poor. But phandom, as always, is a little unique, because of the sense of mutual understanding and the co-created dynamic between us and d&p. It dissolves the boundaries, so when Dan tells you to shut up, your online brain tells you that’s just a chance to be funny with your fave. When you have a chance to be heard, your online brain provides a memey shitpost joke and your irl self shouts it out even though that ain’t the move in a theatre performance unless invited to do so.
No real conclusion here, just some observations about the rly unique dynamic this all creates!
