My dear lgbt+ kids,
If you’re changing your name (for marriage reasons or gender reasons), that’s an exciting step! - and it can also come with the (potentially more boring or even unpleasant or nerve-wracking) task of having to update your contact information for a lot of places.
Here’s a list with some places you should keep in mind:
1. Government and legal documents
• Identity card / Passport
• Driver’s license
• Social security or tax office
• Health insurance provider
• Any court documents or registrations (for example marriage certificate, birth certificate etc.)
2. Banking and finances
• Bank accounts (including savings and joint accounts)
• Credit cards
• PayPal or other payment platforms
• Loan or mortgage providers
• Insurance policies (life, car, household, etc.)
3. Employment and education
• Employer / HR department (for payroll, contracts, email, etc.)
• University or school records
• Certificates and diplomas (if you want them reissued with your new name)
• LinkedIn and other professional platforms
• Unions or professional associations
Unemployment office
4. Health and medical
• General practitioner and specialists
• Dentist
• Therapist / mental health providers
• Vaccination records and digital health apps
• Prescription services or pharmacies
5. Daily life and memberships
• Phone and internet providers
• Utilities (electricity, water, gas)
• Rental agreements or homeowners’ documents
• Streaming services (Netflix, Spotify, etc.)
• Library cards
• Gym memberships
• Retail loyalty programs (Payback etc.)
6. Online presence and subscriptions
• Email accounts
• Social media profiles
• Blogs and personal websites
• Substack or Patreon
• Online shops you use often (Amazon, Etsy, etc.)
• Newsletter subscriptions
7. Travel and transportation
• Airline loyalty programs
• Train and public transport cards (monthly tickets etc.)
• Car registration and insurance
• Toll subscriptions or parking permits
Bonus Tips:
Consider making a spreadsheet to track where you’ve already updated your info and where you still need to.
Some places will require official documentation (like a court certificate or new ID), so keep digital copies handy if needed.
Laws on name changes can be wildly different in different countries. When in doubt on whether a certain point is applicable or necessary for you, make sure to look it up for your country specifically.
Don’t forget the more personal stuff, like updating your name in group chats with your friends or in your private email signature!
If you’re changing your name for gender reasons, you can often update your information quietly or request discretion when dealing with customer service - but bureaucracy can still be frustrating. Feeling a bit anxious about potentially encountering transphobia etc. doesn’t mean you’re weak or that you’re not trans enough for this step or anything like that. It’s a normal feeling in a world where transphobia exists.
Changing your name can feel overwhelming, especially when it’s tied to something deeply personal like gender or a new life chapter. But every form you fill out is also an act of affirmation - of who you are now and the life you’re building. That’s worth celebrating.
With all my love,
Your Tumblr Dad

Snatching Snitches 5
masterpost
Raven contemplated the hole she was digging and decided that the only way out was further down. Things had escalated rapidly. Helping Robin get his ugly cat back had seemed like a nice deed, and then when she learned it was actually a ghost, it had seemed funny to register it as Dick’s cat. It was a harmless prank to saddle him with the cat he didn’t seem to like much.
And then it turned out to be the ghost of a human child who, so far as she could tell online, appeared to actually still be going to school. What the fuck was going on with that? Was the carboy dead or not?
‘I’m a terrible person for thinking that’s even funnier. This is literally a Schrödinger bit’
Raven smirked to herself as she waited for Robin to get back with the super-secret adoption paperwork that Bruce kept in his study to cry over whenever he and Dick had a fight. He was definitely going to notice that it was missing, but she was willing to bet that Bruce would think that Dick had done it himself. Those idiots couldn’t communicate about feelings if their lives depended on it. She was going to get away with this, no sweat. She just had to keep going until the end. Sure, the consequences would get worse the more she did, but that wouldn’t matter if she pulled it off.
“I might be going down, but Dick is going to be planted,” she muttered to herself, stretching out her hands and then rotating her wrists. She cracked her neck. That had been a lot of paperwork.
The air buzzed to let her know that Robin wanted to come back. Raven opened up a portal and he slipped through, much like a cat himself. Granted, it would be hard to convince a cat into one of those preppy blazers. It was a real flashback to Dick’s mathlete days. Raven choked down a laugh as Robin lifted his face to confront her directly with a crisp envelope in hand.
“Here.” He looked like a combat accountant and he only came up to her collarbone. God, she loved working with the trainees. It was a perpetual joke that no one else was in on.
Raven took the envelope with a smirk and a flick of the wrist. “Thank you.” She hadn’t been willing to steal from Batman personally. “I’ll take this to get filed.” She held the paper up a little higher and marveled at how light it was. This little paper was going to be so goddamn funny.
The little boy looked like a half-scale doll of a businessman with his hair slicked back. It was difficult not to laugh when Robin nodded gravely. “You are an admirable colleague.” Beneath the tightly-leashed exterior, Robin was awash with sincere gratitude and warmth, with a hint of admiration. It was a significant improvement on the resigned scorn he had for the other kids in the tower.
‘His diction is just like Dick’s. I’m gonna have a war flashback to infiltrating that museum internship program to find magical forgeries.’
His crisp little businessman tone aside, that was… sort of touching feedback. She nodded back at him. “Your professionalism is also appreciated. I’ll file a personnel request in a few minutes..” Raven had been thinking it over while she waited. “We need to move quickly. I’m going to have a field trip to train one or two of the new kids. You’ll be my assistant.”
Robin’s nose flared, but he otherwise did not react to the, as he would see it, unfortunate need to have tagalongs. “That will suffice,” he agreed, the pompous little pussycat. The air around him soured with regret.
She sent him back in another portal and then sat at her laptop to file a request for him on a mission. Someone in the Batcave approved and filed the request within minutes. Pretty typical for them. The next request was for Suzie, and then the last member of the group… Robin’s little Superboy friend, actually. If there were a lot of ghost fights, it would be a good chance for him to see more aerial combat. Supers were a little overly confident if you didn’t deliberately let them get their asses handed to them by someone else who could fly.
When she was done with administration work Raven spun around on her chair and stretched out her shoulders before she got up to do a little magical research into Amity Park. The human world wasn’t generally very safe for non-life, so there might be some relevant background information. She wanted to know the magical landscape before she brought Secret there. Sure, she was already dead, but she was still basically an elementary schooler. She was learning a lot and maturing, but she would never actually hit 10 years old. Raven had a significant duty of care.
Unfortunately, she hit a dead end with that line way too early and had to look into the online resources. It looked like nothing of note had really happened in Amity Park history, so it had to be a modern era problem.
“Who the…” Raven furrowed her brows and scowled at the screen. “Who are these losers?” She sneered at the government website. They had an inventory of their weaponry on their private server that seemed ridiculous and unnecessary. “Good thing I asked for a Super, we might need a shield,” she muttered to herself. “I don’t know if this would harm Suzie if it hit her…”
The tiny girl herself drifted through the wall not an hour later, blonde hair floating in an invisible breeze. “Hi, Raven.” Her blue eyes were bright with interest. “You have a mission for me?”
Raven tried not to sneeze on the smoke. “Secret,” she said evenly. It always sort of fucked her up to see dead kids, even if they were still wandering around and having a better afterlife than their life had been. “Yes, I do. We are looking into a custody situation for another ghost. There’s something really strange in this place– it is full of ghosts. There’s nothing in the history to justify this level of spiritual saturation.”
It was really bothering her, actually. This type of thing usually took a long time to accumulate.
Suzie’s mouth dropped open for a moment. “So you need me to act as a warder?” She beamed. “Guide someone to the afterlife?” Her smoky sleeves floated around her body in a mock embrace and then billowed out like wings. She was adorable.
…She should probably not suggest that around Robin. He might make her cry and undo all of Raven’s work to engender confidence.
Raven kept her tone even. “I don’t think that’s what we want to do, but it would be foolish not to bring you along to get your expert opinion.”
As expected, the child puffed up with pleasure at being trusted. Nurturing that confidence had been a trial, and Raven wasn’t going to let a chance pass by.
“This is Danny,” she said, and beckoned Suzie over to look at her screen. “He died a few months ago, but on the official record? He’s alive and well and attending school, although his grades have dropped.”
Damian was going to have to dig into his allowance to get tutoring for his new kid.
Suzie hummed, fascinated. “He’s a big kid,” she said, cocking her head. “Like fourteen?”
Raven hid a wince. “That’s right, he died at 14,” she agreed. “He was caught up in a summoning and taken to Gotham two months ago in a secondary form.” She kept a subtle eye on Suzie, watching her emotional state. This was probably a sensitive topic. “If possible, we are going to transfer custody to one of the Gotham vigilantes. I’ve already contacted an afterlife young ghost protective center.”
‘Had no idea that existed until this morning, but whatever.’
The little ghost went silent for a long moment and considered that, bobbing faintly in the air. “I suppose if they think the placement is fine,” Suzie said slowly. “I would feel better seeing the ghost. Danny. What was the secondary form?”
She didn’t smile, because she was a hardass bitch. “A housecat.”
Suzie giggled. “That’s cute,” she said, and then hummed as she tipped her face up to think. “It sounds like he was vulnerable. Becoming something cute and small is a way to be safe. I’m glad that we are looking into it.”
“Yes,” Raven said, and switched her tabs. “There are two factions of ghost hunters in this city, one of which is actually Danny’s parents. So I will be doing a home check with Robin while you and Superboy do recon of the general area. Depending on how good they are, you may or may not catch their attention.”
Suzie stared. “His parents.”
“His parents.”
Suzie’s eyes darkened. “I wonder how he died.”
Given that she had been murdered by her adoptive brother, the odds were good she was thinking the same thing that Raven was.
It was an effort to keep her voice neutral. “That’s my first question,” Raven agreed. “I don’t like it. It’s very convenient that these ghost hunters suddenly have ghosts in their vicinity after years of failure.” She pulled up their neon website. “They have to be complicit in hiding the death, at the very least.”
“Or seriously negligent.” Suzie crossed her legs in the air and hugged her ankles, bent over into a tiny shape to peer at the screen.
Raven inclined her head, but she couldn’t quite buy that anyone would fail to notice their child had died in the house a few months back. “I want you to look at these images of suspected ghosts off the GIW servers and tell me if you know anything about any of them.”
“Right!” Suzie nodded in determination. Her emotions spilled out in the air, wholesome and sincere. “I’ll do what I can.”
Raven’s answering smile was real. “I know you will.” She hit print.
Not an hour later, Raven gave up on her books for the day and rolled her neck out. “I’m going to run an errand,” she announced. “What do you want to do?”
Suzie looked up from the folder she had made to mark up entity photos with her questions and comments. “I’m fine here, I’ll leave when I‘m done,” she said vaguely, and then immediately went back to what she was doing.
Raven nodded and went to her closet to pull out a suit. She styled herself to be as boring as possible and then took herself to Gotham city hall.
The receptionist looked up at the clack of Raven’s heels approaching. “Good evening,” she greeted, radiating the overwhelming impression of normality and reasonability. “I need to file a certificate of adoption on behalf of a client.”
“I can take that.” The clerk indicated the sign in sheet. “Would you put your name and time of visitation down?”
“It’s better if I don’t.” Raven leaned her elbow on the counter and flourished the envelope, smiling faintly. “Here you go.”
The clerk paused, but Raven’s general aura was too powerful for her to protest that it was irregular. “Thank you.” She opened it and pulled out the paperwork. Her eyes widened and brows went up when she read the names. “That’s…”
“Overdue?” Raven asked dryly.
“All in order,” came the correction. A stamp came out and was pressed firmly on the bottom of the paper. “I’ll have this filed before the end of the day. Will there be an announcement in the newspaper?”
“No, it’s better not to,” Raven said, really coaxing.
The clerk took a deep breath. The exhalation where she would have told anyone else “It is a requirement” came out silent. “I can see why,” she said instead. “Thank you. Will that be all?”
It really felt like there should be more fanfare. But Raven shook her head. “No, that’s all– Actually, can I get more of those papers, blank forms?”
Maybe she wouldn’t need them! But something was very odd with little Danny Fenton. If he was somehow passing for living… She might have to have him adopted via the human court system as well to avoid compromising his education.
How the fuck was she going to pull that off?
Raven worried over the problem on her way back to the tower, scowling up a storm cloud of negativity that sparked rain. She slammed her way back into her room and was faintly grateful that Suzie had already cleared out. Raven pulled up her stub of a file on Danny Fenton and started adding more biographical information. She’d seen there was a sister in the same school, but Raven found the first photo.
“...Hm.” She added the photo and went looking for photos of the parents. Danny had blue eyes and black hair, which really wasn’t a common combination. It was weird that his sister had red hair. She didn’t get it from their dad, it turned out, who was a black-haired brickhouse of a man. Raven’s heart rate picked up with excitement as she searched up images of Madeline Fenton. Her university affiliation photo showed a beaming middle aged woman with subtle white in her red hair who apparently lectured on occasion. Bit premature, those white hairs, since she was only 39. Not much older than Raven’s Teen Titan’s cohort, as a matter of fact. Oh, fuck. A delicious timeline came together.
“And 14 years ago…” Raven mumbled to herself, feeling a wicked idea come together. Oh, fuck yes. She full-on villain cackled at the throwback photo of Madeline Fenton at age 25, when Dick had been 22 and in love with any redhead with a pulse. “She’s hot,” Raven said with relish, and slapped her hands on the desk in delight. It was the first full body photo she had found online, and Madeline Fenton was a goddamn fox. “Oh, Dick would have. He would have.” She cracked her knuckles and set in to do something truly heinous as a backup plan. “Now I just need someone to help me falsify DNA results.”
It was a late night, but it was going to be so worth it.
The adoption hit squad landed in Amity Park at 9 am local time on Sunday, ready to investigate Danny Fenton's unliving situation.

Following on from events that were widely circulated and critiqued, members of the Football Australia Board met with Sam Kerr to discuss the situation. During this meeting, Kerr acknowledged her actions were not her best moment and recognised the broader impact it had, including implications in relation to the Code of Conduct, which applies to all players, coaches, staff, and officials. “I want to express my sincere regret for how events unfolded,” said Sam Kerr. “It was an incredibly difficult period for me, my family, my club, my teammates, and especially for the fans whose support means so much to us. I recognise that leadership means being mindful of our actions both on and off the pitch. I’m proud of the Matildas, the role I have played as a member of that team, and everything we stand for, and I’m committed to learning from this experience. Moving forward, I’m focused on doing my part to ensure we grow even stronger together, and I look forward to having the opportunity of rejoining the team once I’m fit and ready.” After reviewing the full context of these events, Football Australia concluded that Kerr’s professional and sincere acceptance of responsibility, as well as her acknowledgment of the far-reaching implications of on- and off-field actions, warranted no further action. The Board also sought input from various stakeholders during this review, underscoring Football Australia’s commitment to fairness for all participants. “Knowing how Sam (Kerr) feels about the events, along with the additional context we’ve learned, has added vital perspective that the general public may not be aware of,” commented Football Australia Chairman Anter Isaac. “Setting aside those difficulties, this one incident should not offset the incredible contributions she has made, both publicly and privately, on and off the field – for more than 15 years.” Heather Garriock, Chair of the Football Development Committee and Football Australia Board Member, added, “Sam (Kerr) remains a valued member of the Matildas, recognised by her teammates for her leadership qualities. We look forward to the opportunity of welcoming her back once she is fit and ready, and we fully support her ongoing journey in Australian football. The team will continue open dialogue to ensure we all grow and learn together. In light of these events, Football Australia is also refining its guidelines and training at every level to reinforce accountability, address potential reputational risks, and explore policy enhancements that will help prevent similar incidents and support everyone involved in the future.” Football Australia continues to stay in close, supportive communication with Kerr as she works toward full fitness. With the matter now concluded favourably for her in court, Football Australia considers it closed. Kerr’s longstanding record of dedication, professionalism, and leadership has consistently elevated Australian football, ensuring these recent circumstances do not overshadow her significant contributions – and she remains an inspiration to fans worldwide. As part of her return-to-play program, Kerr has now joined the CommBank Matildas training camp for the March/April FIFA Women’s International Window (31 March – 8 April 2025). Granted leave by Chelsea FC Women, she will continue her rehabilitation under the supervision of the CommBank Matildas' Performance Support team. This arrangement, developed in close collaboration between Football Australia and Chelsea FC Women, reflects a shared commitment to providing the best environment for Kerr’s recovery and re-integration into the national team. While she may participate in selected training activities, Kerr has not yet been cleared for competitive football, with her focus remaining on health, progression, and long-term readiness.

Why we have to start being nicer to eachother:
I know it sucks and is hard, but I think we really do need to start treating techbros and incels and our fellow humans with a bit more compassion, empathy, and understanding before we jump to bad faith interpretation. Especially when seeing a bad take online used as bait for arguments. We have to give other people the opportunity and knowledge to think for themselves, and make the choice to become a better person on their own.
"Hold on! Why should I be nice to people like that? THEY'RE the ones who are being bigoted to US!"
Well, I'll try and answer that question below! I ended up writing a lot, so check out the "read more" if you're curious. At the end of the day, I'm not an expert or a professional on human behavior, so keep that in mind. This is just something I've been thinking about based on my own past experiences.
Conspiracy theorists, the far right, gun enthusiasts, and even MAGA's all operate on the belief that modern society hates them for who they are. They think the entire world is against them.
And, looking at the kind of hate rhetoric and harmful ideologies they talk about; the cruel acts of casual and extremist violence that stem from that community, it easy to see why the world has turned its back on them. Right?
It makes you wonder: "Why are they like this?"
The easy way out is to simply hold on to the belief that they are behaving this way because they are bad people. Bad people do bad things, after all.
But when the world turns its back on a group of people, those people turn their backs on the world. They will naturally gravitate towards whichever group of accepting humans they come across first. Whoever validates their feelings and makes them feel accepted and safe instead of rejected and fearful.
The far right preys on young men who don't know know any better because they are never treated any better. They have influencers, exactly like Donald Trump, that make you feel safe. They also are lying to these people and using their fear of rejection to control them.
It's very similar to how the Church will help you out and feed you if you're homelss... as long as you join the church and donate 10% of your earnings to "God." (The churchs bank account. )
That is to say, people don't usually pop out of the womb with these prejudices and fears programed into their heads. It's something that has to be taught to them by somebody else. Their parents, the church, their school, their friends, youtubers, etc.
"So, what do we do? How do we save future and current generations from being sucked into this hateful spiral of far right bigotry?"
"How do we help our conservative parents, who we know love us but are absolutely convinced that they need guns to keep their families safe? How do we help our Trump Train family members who used to be loving, compassionate, people?"
Well, you're not gonna like the answer. We have to start being nicer to everyone. We have to be nicer to incels, dude bros, techbros, Karen's, and yes, even your average Republican voters. We have to show them compassion and empathy when they're expressing their fears, without immediately attacking them for it. We have got to prove to them that there's a place for them to come back to.
Their fears are being taken advantage of by a system that benefits from pitting the general population against each other. If we're too busy fighting eachother, we can never join forces and fight the system.
And so it turns into a self-sustaining system of fear and reactive lashing out. They start believing that everybody is against them, except the few people who understand. Until the only safe place left for them is the Q Anon message boards. Quite literally an orobourous of hate.
"But Curio! They literally want us dead! These people are violent and irredeemable!"
Many of them are. So many of these people are groomed into believing that the only way they can keep themselves safe is by killing anything they think has caused them harm. It's an intentional system maintained by those in power to control those who are not.
Some of them, however, are just normal people who got in with the wrong crowd or are too young to know better. Some people were never given the chance to be better.
"So, what SHOULD we do? Be nice to our oppressors? Let them get away with hate crimes and bigotry?"
No. But we DO need to stop thinking of "them" as this massive malevolent demographic who have no souls and are inherently evil. The majority of these people were lied to and manipulated and groomed into these beliefs.
We have to try harder to stop ourselves before we start calling them names and attack them, regardless of if they deserve it or not. We have to engage with them on good faith. Learn about WHY they believe conspiracy theories and why it stems from fear.
"Why? What will this help?"
Because you're quite literally showing them that there's another option available for them to take. You're showing them that, if they do change their minds and want to change their behavior, that you are a safe person to approach with these thoughts. You have the power to create a space for them where they're allowed to think for themselves without punishing them for it.
Once you create that connection, it's like you're showing them another road in life they can explore. They now can see a new future for themselves. A future where their kids start talking to them again. A future where they're not terrified of being humiliated for being soft. A future where they feel listened to.
And that's all. You just have to give them that chance. It's not your job to change their mind, or to tell them that they're wrong for thinking thoughts. In fact, trying to do just that will usually encourage them to double down.
But what you CAN do is build an environment where they have the OPPORTUNITY to change their mind. You can be kind, empathetic, and educational. Be patient and listen and have a respectful conversation with them.
It is especially important for people with privilege to step up and be those kinds of diplomats. People who are able and willing to look past the surface bigotry to address the scared humans underneath. People who can do this without endangering themselves or their community. This may be other cis straight white people who can get away with bringing these topics up gently, without triggering reflexive defensiveness. Who then have the patience to gently educate them and steer them towards a better path.
"But Curio, I can't do this. I've been hurt too many times by these people, and doing this would cause me significant mental distress."
Then don't. You're not obligated to be the better person for every situation and circumstance. Nuance must be taken into account. You don't have to be nice to every troll or ragebait Twitter post. I certainly don't want you to put yourself in a situation that causes you emotional, physical, or mental harm. Hell, you don't even have to give them the time of day. It's your own responsibility to make the judgment call regarding your health.
But people simply won't change if there's no room for them to change. And some people have the power to make that room for them little by little.
"I've tried everything. I've begged, cried, been nice, and shown them that we won't reject them. They won't change their minds no matter what."
And that's also ok! It can happen. When you give people the opportunity to make choices for themselves, there will always be people who still choose to believe the system they were groomed on. They can do that because thats free will, baby. There will still be people who will not change their minds and who will actively choose to become more radicalized.
And it's sad to see. But you also have to respect that sometimes people aren't ready to change at the same time that you're ready to help them change.
But you should try to do it for all the young men and children who are being taught by their parents that White Genocide is real. You should do it for the parents who love their kid so much, but are so terrified when they say they're transgender because they don't know what to do. Because they know the world will not treat them fairly or are afraid of ruining everything.
You should do it for your 10 year old nephew who watches Andrew Tate because their mother doesn't give a damn enough to check what kind of YouTube videos their kid is watching. You should do it for the depressed and hurting teenager who thinks they have no option left but to buy a gun and shoot up their school, because no ones listening to them. You should do it for the tradwife who's alone and hurting after her conservative husband cheated on her and left her with nothing; because she thought she would be the exception.
"...How do you know this will work? What if you're wrong, and nothing changes?"
I don't! I'm just a random person on the internet. I dont know who might read this. It's just my opinion.
But at least, at the end of the day, you tried your best to be a good person to another human being, and I don't think that's such very a bad thing. For me, I'm going to try because I don't want to lose my father to that kind of environment. I want to be able to have a normal conversation with him again.
There's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for.

RANK: Supervisor of Outpost 51
Paralipsis is the eternally pissed off supervisor of Outpost 51 and is known for being rather insufferable. A micromanaging tyrant who will intentionally cause misery for others, he is known to be a mean-spirited sort when he isn't just holing up in his office binge watching soap operas.
Once a vicious alliance fighter, he was put into the supervisor position to take him away from the battlefield as he was deemed a threat to himself on account of his concerning fits and extremely self-destructive tendencies. He has taken the "promotion" with a lot of spite and content to do the shittiest job he can and make it everyone's problem that he hates his job.
MORE LORE UNDER THE CUT <3
Paralipsis picked his name out of irritation of TV men always talking about him without directly mentioning him. He is more polite to his fellow TV Men, but he still is a passive aggressive hostility as he hates being "studied" and treated as something strange to figure out.
He was meant to be the second large TV man but given he activated pre-maturely before he was finished, engineers had to rush to get his body completed so he is just short of the large TV man designation. He still kept the designation LT-2 on record.
What Paralipsis's AI is is a mystery as unlike other AIs, there was no training as he awoke with complete memories like he had been in the war for a long while....and seems to have knowledge of top secret information that should only be known by a few. Yet at the same time, he has no habits of human transferred minds indicating some ghost in the system. He is a strange anomaly among TV man.
Whatever program that is in him seems to be fixated on being "useful" and when this is not achieved, can lead to intense depressive moods that increase risk of "episodes". Around other TV Men, he is a touch more polite, but also has higher rates of "episodes".
He is known to be extremely mean to others, either outright, or in just a rather pensive silence. Paralipsis intentionally pushes people away and keeps them away as he doesn't want people to miss him or want him around. Mostly due to self-destructive tendencies.
Paralipsis is a danger to himself, especially during "Episodes" which are usually preluded by bouts of twitching, shaking, more aggressive behavior and insults before seizing up.
Stage one of Episodes starts with him flashing the image of a broken screen while starting to exhibit behavior like he is incredible pain, discharging, and going into a state that seems like he is suffering from severe critical wounds as his systems start to seize up. It is best to calm him during this state before he hits stage two.
Stage two of an episode the screen will take on a glowing core looking design and start to ramble on incoherently or rambling about needing to be "fixed" that he isn't "correct" and something is "wrong". In this state, he is fixated on "escaping" his form, attempting to usually stab his screen or some other self-harm behavior. At this point, a controlled shock to offline him temporarily is favored unless professional can de-escalate this heightened state of mania.
Paralipsis does not talk about what goes on during episodes, brushing it off and set on just trying to control them. It is noted that these episodes do not occur when within sight of the Titan TV man, however he gets somewhat catatonic. It has been agreed to keep the two apart due to these strangely zoned out reactions.
Paralipsis has four arms, but he actually rarely extends out all four out of some sort of spite that makes sense to him and by his own take, he hates them, thus keeps them folded up. However when push comes to shove, he will extend them. During episodes, the arms will engage and often act erratically. When spooked or needing to act quickly, will extend arms as well, but often rips up his jacket and gets pissed off needing to get a new one.
He actively pushes away help from others and dodges around topics, usually insulting or turning the conversation back on the person, making it clear he does not want help. Or does. He tends to have very conflicting feelings about everything. There seems to be a want for companionship, but also a general distrust of the intentions of others that is very hard to get passed.
Despite his piss poor attitude, utter lack of work ethic when he doesn't want to do tasks, his inability to take orders from higher-ups, and general inclination towards causing trouble for others, during times of crisis, Paralipsis will help others in the alliance, often putting himself at great risk to do so.
He's the second strongest of the group after Mr. Biggs, but is the most proficient fighter of the group when it comes to close quarters and stealth.
Paralipsis is very fond of his soap operas and will binge watch them for hours and ignore the world. He also has a TV in his room to use for "therapy" to help calm his moods and try to help stabilize whatever triggers there are for his episodes and general depression.
Incident -015: The Ghost Event (Log of event)
The Ghost Event took place upon the Titan TV Man's return to base after suffering critical injuries from the knife through his screen by the possessed Titan Speakerman. The Titan had suffered damage to critical functions and engineers had moved quickly to stabilize and calm the enraged Titan to keep damage to base structure to minimum.
However, once the cortex and core were hooked up to main systems, a massive surge was detected, shorting out systems in the TV man base. At the same time as this surge, incomplete units in the process of being built activated, leading to what those present described as something out of a horror movie. Incomplete unites began to attempt to move, babbling incoherently, although all but LT-2 shorted out, their cortex's exploding and melting down.
LT-2 was disconnected by the system before reaching this point, going offline before regaining consciousness. LT-2 was taken to interrogation to assess unit. Unit appeared to have memories and knowledge not expected for a newly awakened unit, able to correctly identify TV man staff and even facts about them that it should not have known. At first Unit was forthcoming with answers, but quickly became more sullen, withdrawn, and disagreeable, leading to it becoming far more agitated about the questions and refusing to answer further. Unit took on the name Paralipsis and at times exhibits fits similiar to that of what happened at its awakening.
LT-2 is effective in battle, but has no regard for its own safety and due to the research into neuroengineering the unit presents and the general concern of engineers for the well-being of the unit, LT-2 is to be kept away from conflict until EMCs can confirm the mind has stabilized. Current theory is that the Titan TV Man's high level of agitation and distress as it edged to critical failure caused a subconscious response that activated the units. The how and why remains unknown as no repeat incident has been recorded.

Chapter 7.2 - You Can't Go Home

AKIRA
As they filter off the train, the smell of iron gets further away and Akira finally begins to relax.
He asks her a ton of questions, partly because he's curious and partly because he wants to keep the focus off himself. Alice is in the middle of talking about her class when her body goes rigid.

Akira scans for a threat but comes up empty. Train stations are generally pretty clear of supernatural creatures, except low-level spellcasters and baby vampires at night. They aren’t much use when you can transportalate, turn into a bat, or run for miles in wolf form. And the fae avoid them altogether.

“You good?”
She flinches when he reaches for her hand. “I-I’m fine,” Her smile doesn’t quite reach her eyes. “Do you smoke? Weed, I mean, not cigarettes. I…I think I’m gonna smoke. Do you wanna come with me?”
“I thought you said you had to turn this assignment in,” he reminds her.
She stares across the platform, but he still can’t figure out what she’s looking at.

“I’ll do it later. And you don’t have to come. That was weird of me to peer pressure you,” her laugh comes out high-pitched and wrong, “You're probably busy. I’m good. I’m gonna go. And you’ll go, and I’ll just see you later.”

She's babbling and her hands are shaking. There is no universe where he just leaves her like this.
“Yeah, I smoke," he takes her hand and leads her to the exit. "And I got time. No classes, remember?”

Akira has been to the Commons a few times (for creeper reasons), but he's never climbed the tower. The air is especially crisp, but Alice doesn't seem bothered by it.

Despite resisting earlier, he finds himself wishing she would extract some promise from him—some commitment to keep him tied to her. It's a terrible idea. He knows better. Akira has always been careful not to break one of the rules he’d learned by brute force.
“This is a shit weed,” he coughs.

“Hey!” Alice playfully points an accusatory finger, “I invite you to my secret perch and share my paltry stash, and you insult me?”
“You need a new dealer if this is your stash.”

“And a new bank account!” She laughs. “Try to chillax, my dude; you are working against the medicinal benefits.”
He tries. His lungs fill, but it takes three more rounds of coughing before he evens out. Alice, meanwhile, is a professional. She barely coughs, though she's had twice as much as him. He's not even sure she's high.
"Why photography?" he asks when she joins him on the bench.
"Most of the time, I get asked about painting; no one even thinks about photography."

He shrugs, "Your focus isn’t Fine Arts. Why am I gonna ask you about something you don’t do? You want me to guess?" When she nods, he waves a hand across the sky, pretending to paint a picture. "Art lets you remake the world in a more pleasing image, which is kind of nice because the world is shit. But you do photography because you want the shitty stuff upfront. No lies. You'd rather tango with the truth."

She straightens, suddenly alert. "Maybe. Kind of. But photography is also lies. All you do when you snap a picture is capture a moment in time. You can still tell yourself a story about the emotion you saw or what really happened. It's just a different kind of lie from painting."
The weed is definitely kicking in, but he likes her explanation.

"So what are you studying?" she asks.
Direct questions are the hardest to dodge. Especially now when he feels like he’s floating a hundred feet in the air. "I'm studying nothing," he says honestly. "I just follow what interests me."
"Why?"
"Because I have a lot of time." Infinite, actually, if he kept his head attached to his body and didn't end up on the wrong side of a curse.
"If I had time, that's what I'd do too. And catch up on back seasons of 7 Wild Dates."

Akira laughs, "Stop. I changed my mind. That show is moving to the bottom of my watch list."
“Don’t be mean!” Alice sticks out her tongue, "That's quality programming you're missing."

They smoke more and talk about nothing, which feels like talking about everything because Alice leaps from topic to topic. She knows a little about a vast number of subjects, like knowledge for her is a series of wading pools and she's just hopping from one body of water to another.
It's how Akira operates too. Once he gets the gist of something, he's ready to move on.
“Tell me one thing about you so you can stop accusing me of hanging out with a stranger," she says, "Where are you from?”

A flash of pink sky.
A veil that never seems to part.
A home he can’t get back to.
The yearning is so real he jolts. “What if I told you that nothing about me or my life is what it seems? And because I don’t want to lie to you, you’re probably gonna find I won’t answer all your questions. Maybe any of them.”

Alice thinks for a minute. “I guess I’d say tell me what you can, not what you can’t.”
Akira wants to praise her wordplay. He wants to kiss her. He does neither.
“I love horror movies,” he confesses, “When I was like, 10, I snuck into the Moonlight Massacre Marathon at the theater downtown, and I was fuckin’ hooked.”
The whole story comes tumbling out, even the part about Titania being a little shit and ratting him out to their parents. Alice laughs and complains about her step-sibling, and Akira viciously guards every drop of information she shares with him.

“I like horror movies too. If I throw in Moonlight Massacre II, will that elevate 7 Wild Dates on your watch list?”
His phone buzzes with a reminder about tonight’s job. He gets to his feet. “Next time,” he tells her.
“You promise?”

A promise is a dangerous thing.
—A binding thing.
A vow.
No promises.
Akira nods, “Yeah, I promise.”

I will never understand how Shane Newville can be called a hater. Yes, his letter did cause problems but he didn't do it out of malice or spite. It's so weird that so many people demonize him just because he wrote that letter 8 years ago. I even saw someone on Twitter once say Shane was never Monty's friend.
yeah i think it's mostly because of the letter being used as ammunition to attack the show, the crew and the fandom in its aftermath that Shane gets conflated with the virulence of the hatedom that followed, not helped by the title of the letter being a shade emotionally manipulative - 'to those who loved Monty' - and then his attitude throughout the letter where he posits himself as if he was Monty's only friend in the company (which was demonstrably untrue) and pinning Miles and Kerry (though not naming them, he uses their job titles so we knew who Shane was talking about) with the 'not following Monty's vision' label (especially in regards to cutting or changing fights because they didn't make sense or wouldn't have worked thematically; like Raven attacking JNPR for... some reason. or Adam and Yang having a full on fight before she lost her arm, or Pyrrha nearly beating Cinder... somehow, before getting killed because Jaune distracted her. if i recall he claimed Pyrrha was 'nerfed from being a badass fighter', and it just reminds me of the volume 1 director's commentary where they had to rein Shane in on the Black Trailer because he wanted Blake to cut the entire train in half) and acting like he was entitled to assume the director's position despite no indication he had even put his name forward for it
ultimately Shane comes across in the letter like he would've probably been happier working on Dead Fantasy over RWBY; he was in it to make cool fight scenes with Monty for fight scenes sake, not to make a show with a narrative throughline (that he utterly downplayed Miles and Kerry's involvement in writing the damn thing - which every behind the scenes featurette from the beginning had made a point of, especially volume 1's where Monty talked through his process of bringing others on - was again more ammunition people used to attack the crew and foster the 'Monty's true vision' narrative), and the letter was coming from a very skewed perspective as a result of grief and frustration (from internal and external factors; his marriage broke down, he lost his job) and while he doesn't put voice to it, his own actions as described in the letter make him come across as obstructive (very resistant to the changing of the team structure and workflow to a more professional standard) and a pain to work with (because he'd keep working on stuff that they weren't gonna do, like the aforementioned Raven vs JNPR fight, and was wasting time making tools for the new animators more familiar with Maya to use for Poser because he didn't want them to move to a new animation program after 3, if i remember rightly)
like, i don't think he wrote it in an attempt to fuel the hatedom or just to be an ass, and he did highlight some behind the scenes problems, it's just that it did end up doing a lot of damage and his skewed perspective doesn't really account for the issues he was creating or that he wasn't the only one impacted - but again, grief, frustration
it's now been eight years and i think we all should be well past it and just let sleeping dogs lie

Reading your sock post, I realized you might just be the person to ask a question that a friend posted on FB: a knitting worldbuilding question!
In A Tale of Two Cities, Madame DeFarge knits the names of targets for the guillotine into her work. What was her coding scheme? The friend speculated that Dickens had met Charles Babbage at some point and was doing something with binary. After poking around a bit on the internet, I decided Dickens made it up, not knowing anything about knitting.
I did find schemes for encoding messages in two dimensions, possibly using colors. But such a scheme seems unlikely to encompass 26 letters and 5 accents in a way that can quickly encode a name (since there was a fair bit of volume to keep up with at the time).
What do you think? Is there a plausible scheme today? And would such a scheme have a chance of being available at the close of the 18th century?
So, I'm not an expert on this either! But I'll give it a go.
The first thing I remembered was that this has been done, albeit long after Dickens' day. I have seen videos and posts in which people talk about knitting as spycraft during the world wars. The challenge I then had was 'is this all just a giant game of internet telephone?'
And, my friend, this led me down a rabbit hole. I’ll get to your question in a bit, I just need to go on a detour about checking your sources. Because most of what I could find online was from sites with names like ilikeknitting500 dot com or girlbosshistory dot net (not real examples), all with the same vague story – in Belgium, the resistance would have people sitting by trainyards knitting, and they would drop a stitch for one kind of train, and purl for another, and so on and so forth. As a result, the government banned exporting knitting patterns! But they can’t even agree on what world war it was or which government banned it.
So where does this claim come from?
It took me a little while to find real articles with sources. What I eventually came away with was an Atlas Obscura article that has citations. One citation was a book I can't access by someone who, while I can't find any evidence she's a historian herself, has been endorsed by at least a couple. The link did give me an excerpt about a woman who would use her knitting to cover for tapping information about troop movements in code to her children below, who would write it instead of doing their schoolwork. In a similar vein, I could find information on people who used knitting to hide their spy work, as in the case of Phyllis Latour.
The other relevant citation was to a journal article in a (student-run, admittedly, but in some fields this isn't abnormal) peer-reviewed Open Access journal by an Jacqueline Witkowski, who is now an Associate Professor of Art, even if she wasn't then. This was the best of the bunch, because this cited a BBC Radio 4 program on the history of MI6. I thought this was going to be the end of the road for me, but then I realised you don’t need a TV licence to listen to the radio and that I do have a BBC account, so I logged in and listened to it and – bingo.
Alan Judd, a writer and ‘former soldier and diplomat’ according to Wikipedia, is the biographer of Mansfield Cumming, the original head of MI6, and he tells us about Belgian professionals recruiting little old ladies to go sit by train stations and knit, with the dropped and purled stitches. (He mentions nothing about banning sending knitting patterns.) Crucially, this is definitely during the First World War. I can’t access the book (and certainly can’t be bothered), but I would call this reasonably credible – it’s not as good as something from an actual archive, and I don’t automatically trust the BBC, but this radio series seems serious and also has the involvement of Actual MI6. So I think this is about as good as I’m going to get in a single evening.
We still don’t have the other half of the claim, the censorship. Witkowski says, “This [...] led to the Office of Censorship’s ban on posted knitting patterns in the Second World War, in case they contained coded messages.” There is a citation. But the citation is a Telegraph column by people involved in QI. QI, or Quite Interesting, is a British comedy panel show that I would place in the ‘edutainment’ category – it is an endless source of weird little facts, some of which are even true. Wikipedia has a section on mistakes and fact correction, and I can tell you from having watched the programme that it is usually correct on a surface level, but if you know anything about the relevant topic you’ll immediately start going well, it’s actually more complicated than that…’
The QI column says, “During the Second World War the Office of Censorship banned people from posting knitting patterns abroad in case they contained coded messages,” and gives no sources. On historyhub.history.gov, someone has asked if there are any primary sources for this claim. Textual Reference Archives II Branch (RR2RA) replies that ‘some articles specify that this was a practice by the British government, whereas others attribute it to the United States,’ and gives the asker links to the records of the American Office of Censorship, and where they can learn more about British censorship. There are no more replies. I would hazard a guess that QI meant the Americans; UK censorship was handled by the Ministry of Information, which is common knowledge here and not something they would fuck up.
I originally was going to wash my hands of it, but then I thought… just one primary source? Just try? So I looked at a US government printout of their censorship regulations from 1943. No mention of knitting patterns, but all printed matter is banned for export to Europe, which would presumably encompass commercial knitting patterns by default.
So that’s that tangent, I wrote, thinking this was over. Because Charles Dickens died in 1870 and published ToTC in 1859, long before ANY of this happened! Also, Madame DeFarge’s code is far more sophisticated than any of this stuff. So let’s get back on track.
Your friend is not the only person to have speculated on the Babbage connection – Paul Curzon of Queen Mary University London also raises the possibility that Dickens was thinking of Babbage and Lovelace’s work –
Wait. Is that… I thought I’d escaped my tangent! But Curzon has dragged me back in! He adds an interesting note at the end of the article, though he doesn’t cite it - “In the Second World War, the United States censors held on to a letter that contained a knitting pattern so they could knit the jumper in case it did contain a message. Ultimately they banned people from posting knitting patterns overseas at all (along with playing chess by post) in case people were hiding messages in them.” I wish he’d cited it, but this is at least a real academic – a little more credible than QI! I hoped that this would be the source of the QI claim, but unfortunately I think it post-dates the QI article – it’s hard to tell. But QI could easily have got hold of that censorship decision.
YANKS SELF BACK WITH THE BIG HOOK.
Dickens was, in short, probably making an almost science-fictional prediction. He moved in the Babbage/Lovelace circle and would have known about their work. What Curzon does not say is that this is also the age of Morse code, which came into use in the 1840s, and the beginning of Boolean algebra! It’s easy to imagine him taking these ideas, along with any knitting knowledge he may have had, and coming up with the concept. Madame DeFarge is ahead of her time, but not too far ahead of Dickens's.
Now, I’m not a Dickens scholar, but I happen to be friends with someone who is and is also a knitter. So I’ve asked her if he might’ve known diddly squat about knitting, and we’ll see what she says.
…
How might it have worked? Well, knitting is versatile. You can, for instance, knit Doom. But Doom is already binary, because we have established systems of binary coding. DeFarge does not, and it wouldn’t be intuitive to convert these into names, especially before Boolean algebra. She might’ve had a Morse code-like framework. Morse code isn’t actually binary – it’s sort of trinary, because you need to space the letters. This isn’t necessarily a problem; you can use a yarnover (followed by knitting/purling two together, obv) to separate the letters, with, say, knit being dot and purl being dash. If you’re experienced, you might be able to read it as fabric, but it would be easiest to read it back in reverse as you unravel it.
Knitting this would likely be pretty quick. She can’t be using actual Morse code for the very simple reason that she pre-dates Mr Morse, and I also don’t know how actual Morse code handles French diacritics, but it took me, a person who has never done this before and doesn't understand Morse and had to make some modifications on the fly, about quarter of an hour to knit the Morse code alphabet (minus Z bc I reached the end of a row and got bored). It would be easier if you were using colours; you could have one colour for dot, one for dash, and use purl stitches to mark the ends of words. I cba to do that right now though.
In summary, clearly Madame DeFarge is an extremely adept code-maker of a kind that is… easier to have in fiction than in real life. She's ahead of her time and in some ways ahead of twentieth-century spycraft, but not implausibly ahead of Dickens's. And I’m a fucking nerd.
And @ the internet at large, generalised-you should check your fucking sources.

Tapping into your inner athlete isn’t just about physical performance—it’s about adopting the mindset, discipline, and habits of an athlete to reach your goals, whether they’re fitness-related or not. Here’s how you can unleash that inner athlete:
1. Shift Your Mindset
• Think Like an Athlete: Athletes approach challenges with a growth mindset. They view failures as learning opportunities and stay committed even when progress feels slow.
• Set Clear Goals: Identify what you want to achieve—whether it’s running a 5K, building strength, or improving endurance. Make your goals SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.
• Visualize Success: Take a moment daily to visualize yourself achieving your goals. Athletes use visualization to build confidence and focus.
2. Build a Routine
• Schedule Your Training: Consistency is key. Set a regular workout schedule and stick to it, treating it like an important appointment.
• Warm-Up and Cool Down: Just like athletes, prioritize warming up to prevent injury and cooling down to aid recovery.
• Track Your Progress: Use an app or journal to monitor your workouts, nutrition, and recovery. Tracking your performance helps you stay motivated and make necessary adjustments.
3. Fuel Your Body
• Eat Like an Athlete: Focus on nutrient-dense foods—lean proteins, complex carbs, healthy fats, fruits, and vegetables.
• Hydrate: Dehydration can significantly impact performance. Drink water consistently throughout the day, especially before, during, and after workouts.
• Prioritize Recovery: Adequate sleep, stretching, foam rolling, and rest days are crucial for long-term performance.
4. Train with Purpose
• Mix It Up: Cross-train with different activities to build all-around fitness and prevent burnout.
• Challenge Yourself: Gradually increase intensity, weight, or distance to push your limits. Athletes constantly seek ways to improve.
• Stay Present: Practice mindfulness during workouts. Focus on your form, breathing, and the sensations in your body.
5. Cultivate Resilience
• Embrace Discomfort: Growth happens outside of your comfort zone. Push through challenges and remember that mental toughness is developed in hard moments.
• Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge your progress, no matter how small. Every step forward counts.
• Learn from Setbacks: Injuries, bad workouts, or missed goals happen—even to elite athletes. Use setbacks as opportunities to reflect, adapt, and come back stronger.
6. Find Your Community
• Surround Yourself with Motivated People: Join a local running club, CrossFit box, or yoga studio. Training with others boosts accountability and motivation.
• Follow Athletes You Admire: Whether on social media or through biographies, learning about others’ journeys can inspire your own.
• Hire a Coach or Trainer: If you need guidance, a professional can help tailor a program to your needs and keep you accountable.
Remember: Your inner athlete is already there—you just need to give it direction, dedication, and belief. What’s your first step going to be?

Extra things I scripted into my MHA DR
Some are safety related and some are for my convenience as i was worried about them
Mosquitoes, lice, ticks, fleas, cockroaches, silverfish, and bed bugs don’t exist.
There is no rape in my DR.
There is no racism or racial prejudice.
There is no homophobia and no transphobia. There are no surgical requirements for transgender people to be able to change their gender legally. No ban on same sex marriage or same sex adoption. Equal fucking rights. LOVE IS LOVE BITCH
I take Mineta’s place in Class 1-A. Mineta is not in my DR.
UA has always had the dorms.
I have enough money to always live comfortably. UA provides all students with stipends
No one in my Class or Class B will die.
Midnight will not die
Present Mic will not die
All Might will not die
Eraserhead will not die
There is no hero licensing exam. We are given our licenses at the discretion of our teachers at our school, based on when they think we are ready for them. Class 1-A and 1-B all receive hero licenses after the events at the Training Camp and Kamino.
TikTok exists in my DR, younger heroes often have their own TikTok accounts to gain popularity.
Current music exists in my DR
We speak English at school but everyone is fluent in both english and japanese
I cannot be expelled
The Hero Support course develops a fabric for Hagakure so that she can wear something during hero work and still retain her invisibility. AKA used her hair as a base like they did for Mirio
Hagakure can also control when she is invisible and since her hero quirk will be similar to Mirio’s in concept, it will turn invisible with her
I do not know the plot as it will play out beyond where I enter my DR. For example, I will not know about the attack on the Camp prior to the attack starting
There is no Covid-19 in my DR
We have the same homeroom teacher for all three years at UA.
UA has professional therapists to help hero students cope with stress and emotions that come with hero training. These therapists can make sure students in need of mental health counseling and medication receive the proper care. (Amajiki)
UA is a college and all students are 20 upon entering their first year at UA, no matter the program.
Eri is not aged up, despite all other characters being aged up. She is still a child.
I will always remember my classmates and their hero names
Spotify Premium is just how spotify works in my DR, for free
UA gives students access to all streaming platforms. Netflix, Disney, HBO, Hulu, etc
Squishmallows has ProHero squishmallows
Sir Nighteye doesn’t die. He is injured but he and All Might will reconcile and All Might will finally explain why he couldn’t give the quirk to Mirio
The War Arc doesn’t happen, there is a better solution
Instead of the Licensing Exam, we do interschool training exercises to promote working together in the future and being exposed to other future heroes, not just our class or school’s.
I have the right adaptors/chargers/etc for outlets used in Japan
The zombie ova doesn’t happen
I understand the metric system
I understand the yen to US dollar conversion and my banking is set up when I arrive, so I don’t need to worry about it
We have the same dorm building all three years, they just change the signage to signify what year we’re in
Each dorm room has its own private bathroom. There are still the communal baths
Fatphobia is a no <3
Hidden cameras in public and nonpublic spaces aren't a thing.
The toilets are like the ones in America
ADHD/stimulant drugs are legal. I have no issues getting any of my needed medications in Japan and can get them easily from local pharmacies
Stronger Western deodorants are available in Japan, easy to find

Welcome to my new Studyblr challenge !
Hey there! I’m currently a student in a secrétaire-comptable program, starting today, training to become a secretary-accountant. But I need some body doubling to keep myself motivated in the long run, so here's a gentle challenge to ease into my new study, with each day the focus on a small progress/win to gain some dopamine boost. I will use it as a flexible guide while streaming on Twitch most morning and some afternoon.
About My Formation
My course covers key areas to prepare me for an office or accounting role: - Administrative Skills: Learning effective office management, organization, and planning. - Accounting Fundamentals: Getting hands-on with bookkeeping, budgets, and understanding financial transactions. - Business Law & Regulations: Navigating the essentials of tax and legal compliance for businesses. - Communication Skills: Developing professional communication for smooth customer and team interactions.
What to Expect Here
-Daily Study Updates: Reflections on what I’m learning, challenges and small wins along the way. - Study Tips and Organization Hacks: Sharing my best tips for productivity, note-taking and staying organized. - Encouragement & Motivation: Posts that keep me accountable and hopefully inspire you too!
Why I’m Sharing This
I’m using studyblr as a space to document my learning process, connect with others and stay motivated. It will make me reflect on my journey so I can be more mindful about what I need to learn still and what I already know.
Let’s support each other as we work toward our goals!

Truck Driver Day
Professional truck drivers are honored and celebrated today with Truck Driver Day. In the United States, a driver is considered to be a truck driver when their vehicle has a gross vehicle weight—the weight of the vehicle loaded—of at least 26,000 pounds. They must obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) to drive a vehicle of this weight. Employers often require their drivers to take a safety training program, and some also require a high school degree or GED.
Truck drivers carry all kinds of freight—livestock, food, canned goods, liquids, packages, and vehicles—all across the United States and the world. They often have to load and unload their freight and must inspect their trucks before taking to the road. Truck drivers often ship products to stores, and some may have to undertake sales duties. Many truck drivers work long hours. Some may have daily local routes that keep them close to home, while others may have routes and schedules that often change, and many have to be away from home for an extended amount of time.
Some trucks were on the road in the United States prior to World War I. Trucks continued to be used and developed during the war, and by 1920 there were more than a million trucks on the roads of America. Trucking continued to expand over the following decade, on account of advancements such as the introduction of the diesel engine, improved rural roads, the introduction of power brakes and steering, and the standardization of truck and trailer sizes. In the 1930s, a number of trucking regulations were implemented, and the American Trucking Association was created. Trucking activity increased in the 1950s and '60s, in large part because of the creation of the Interstate Highway System. Regulations on the weight of trucks continued to be updated.
The heyday of the truck driver came in the 1960s and '70s. At the time, a wide swath of the public viewed truck drivers as modern-day cowboys or outlaws. The rise of "trucker culture" was signaled with the proliferation of trucker songs and films, the wearing of plaid shirts and trucker hats by the public, and the wide use of CB radios and CB slang. The romanticization of trucker culture subsided by the dawn of the 1980s.
Many truckers went on strike during the energy crises of 1973 and 1979, after the cost of fuel rose. The Motor Carrier Act of 1980 partially deregulated the industry. As a result, many new trucking companies were started. Trucker union membership also drastically declined, leading to lower pay. But the deregulation did reduce consumer costs, and it increased production and competition in the trucking industry. By the twenty-first century, trucking dominated the freight industry. In 2006, there were 26 million trucks on America's roads, which hauled about 70 percent of the country's freight. Truckers continue to play a prominent role in keeping the wheels of the economy turning, and for the hard work they put in to make this happen, they are honored and celebrated today!
How to Observe Truck Driver Day
Some ideas of ways the day could be spent include:
If you are a truck driver, get out there and drive! Or, take the day off. It should be up to you!
Wave to truckers or make a gesture like you are pulling a truck horn in an attempt to get them to honk their horns.
Thank a truck driver. Tell them thanks in person or make a social media post of thanks. Include the hashtag #TruckDriverDay.
Become a truck driver.
Listen to some truck driving songs such as "Convoy" and "Truck Drivin' Man."
Watch some truck driving films such as Smokey and the Bandit, Convoy, and Big Rig.
Talk on a CB radio.
Eat at a truck stop.
Attend or take part in the National Truck Driving Championships, which are held around the time as Truck Driver Day.
Read a book about trucking or truckers such as Trucking Country: The road to America's Wal-Mart Economy or The Long Haul: A Trucker's Tales of Life on the Road.
Explore the websites of organizations and companies related to the industry such as American Trucker, Truckers News, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the American Trucking Associations, and the Women in Trucking Association.
