Do you live in New Zealand? Do you rent or know people who rent?
The government has put forward a bill to allow no-cause evictions. Currently, landlords have to have a valid reason (from a fairly long list of legally-permissible reasons) to evict tenants. The bill proposes that landlords be allowed to evict tenants with no reason given. The bill is open for submissions until 11.59pm on Wednesday, 03 July 2024 New Zealand time.
Make a submission! It can be as simple as 'I do not support this bill and think it should be thrown out'.

Finding a place to live is no small feat—especially when you're on a tight budget. Making matters worse, many landlords in Ontario are currently offering wild accommodations to try to turn a buck off potential renters who are strapped for cash. While recent studies show that rent is actually getting cheaper in Ontario, it'll still cost you an average of $2,390 a month for a standard one bedroom apartment, which, given the province's breathtaking cost of living, can render renting a place of one's own out of the question. In response, private room rentals and apartment shares are becoming increasingly popular across  As horrific rental listings continue to emerge across Ontario, Reddit groups like r/SlumlordsCanada have emerged to slam opportunistic landlords offering far-sub-par accommodations.

Hi bitches! I have the opportunity to purchase a house that has two units from a family member on the cheap side, and I'll be living in one of them. The other is currently rented to someone who pays rent that is far under market value for the area. It's around a $500 difference in a high cost of living area, which is a significant amount of money. I don't want to be a shitty landlord, and I'm trying to figure out the ethics of raising rent a little bit. It seems mean to me, but it would be super helpful to have to offset the mortgage. I'm really torn.
And I'm really torn on what to tell you!
My instinct is to tell you to not raise the rent, or at least not a significant amount. But this should be a frank discussion with the family member who sold you the house and the tenant. You might find that your family member already warned the tenant that they were selling and it might affect their rent.
But also, you should consider carefully just how much you need the money. I say this as someone who is currently a landlord (we built an apartment in our basement for a family member and now a friend is living there) and renting out my space for about half of market value. Having the money is reeeeeal nice for helping with the mortgage in this economy. And having MORE of it would be even nicer. But it would be a hardship for our tenant, and it is not currently a hardship for us.
Here's that story:
I Have Become the Rich Relative I Always Wanted
It's hard out there right now. If you can afford to give someone else grace, you should do it.
If you do choose to raise the rent, keep it reasonable, and consider gradually raising it by $20 or so over a period of several months. If and when your tenant moves out, THEN you can consider relisting the unit for the full market value. Here's more:

Daily reminder that the Transformers would likely find humans’s head, eyes, and forehead bigger than we actually have them, because they always look at us from the top down, and there is that perspective illusion.
Also they have proportionally bigger shoulder compared to their heads, so to them, we have bigger head in proportion to our bodies.
In summary, it is entirely scientifically possible that we do look like babies to them.
Also in TFP, due to bigger size and weight, the transformers walk with more body motions to stay balanced. So to them, we also look like we walk like a little bird or mouse. Body levitating and legs moving rapidly.
EDIT:
Also given that it is no secret that we’re squishy and flexible to them, our face bend and shape in way more exaggerated and expressive ways than theirs do while smiling and frowning, also every time we jump the fat on our arms and legs and belly can bounce, we are likely very cartoony to them as well.
So I propose to you, how the Transformers see an average humans:

one thing that i don't understand is how vanilla the It fandom is.
Like this is literally based on a cosmical horror gorey 80's novel, and the author is confirmed to be on drugs while writing a good chunk of the book. And somehow —of course, there are exceptions— all the headcannons and fan arts and fics are super wholesome vanilla cute, and every character has a clear compass on what's wrong and right.
I genuinely want this fandom to have some more fun around. Pushing the limits of the characters. See how they navegate their life. part of the reason why everyone but stan was so cooked when Mike made the calls is that none of them knew how to be a funtional adult. sure, they were wealthy, but it's said that none of them really knows how they got so rich in the first place. All their careers are very child-like dream. A fashon designer. an Arquitect. A Writer. A DJ/comedian. None of the losers knew how to play the adult, and they were reluctant to grow up. All of them, and i mean ALL OF THEM, fell into the same dynamics they had when they were children. There was no personal growth. they were children with old people's faces. AND THAT'S SO COOL!!! and shitty!! and difficult! so i want more fics where they are all actually kind of shitty people. not totally bastards but.
Focus on all of them not just reddie (i love reddie, but c'mon) i want to read, say, Eddie doing fuck ups. More of his relationship with Myra, who he loved and played with at times. His relationship with his colleagues friends, whith his sexuality aside of GayPanic all the time.
Or let's get a bit darker!
And i dont mean a Serial Killer Au, which i loved btw, this isnt shade on any of you who enjoy what i mentioned in the post—i literally have a Hunger games Au of my own iykyk— but if they are serial killers i want them to face up to the consequences. i want richie to have some agency aside of Reddie. And i want more CharacterxOc too!! I want more rarepare. Beverly needs more stories of her own goddamn it. She is such an interesting character—much like Natty from Yellowjackets— and yet she gets shaded away.
Not to mention how Mike and Stan get shaded away EVERY SINGLE TIME which, huh. sus.
Am i the problem??? idk. Genuinely want to read something other than First Kiss or Love confessions. The smut is alright tho!
anyway just my thoughts

can we talk about the obnoxious aspects of coin-op apartment laundry?
having cash on you is increasingly less common (while cash is NOT dead, nor should it be, for a variety of reasons). and for me personally, getting quarters is a huge pain
my building's laundry is $2/wash and $2/dry. normally I don't need the driers because I can just hang my clothing on a folding rack in my room to dry, but for bigger things like sheets, it's necessary. I work Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday most weeks, and my days off are sometimes taken up by errands that don't bring me near a full bank branch- as opposed to just a freestanding ATM, which don't dispense coins -until after their open hours
I wouldn't mind as much if we had a card reader, or even a change machine in the building. but getting together $4 in quarters every time I need to wash my sheets is very difficult- hell, even getting $2 is a hassle at times
sometimes I do hand-laundry in the sink because it's just not worth the trouble. again, though...can't do that for sheets. well, you CAN, but it's a logistical nightmare to dry them without a drier or clothesline access

A 393-square-foot unit in the building on Larch Street and West 2nd Avenue is being offered for $2,600 a month. A 555-square-foot one-bedroom unit is being offered for $3,200 and an 840-square-foot two-bedroom unit is $4,300 a month, leading to some confusion about what “affordable” means. “I think that’s insane. So expensive,” Vancouver resident Lucy McQueen told Global News. “My family’s middle income and that’s too expensive for the size.”

I love sylus. I love sylus so much it hurts. You cannot look at me in eyes and say that isn't the look of love. The way he challenges MC and the other way around, the mutual push and pull, how both clearly wants each other (albeit I think sylus more), and my fav is how sylus knows MC will be just fine by herself but will always be there when she needs him, whenever wherever.
"there is no love purer than mine" he will always choose and wait for MC again and again (I know this applies to all the LI but leave me be lol)
But I hate how infold is treating him. Why they release Caleb myth during Sylus's bday event, man? Why Sylus always got treated like this, man?? Like, I'm actually wondering in term of marketing or profit or smth idk.
No hate to Caleb, just hate to infold.
