listen. I know we all agree that the love triangles in the PJO/HoO series were unnecessary. but NOBODY was writing them like Rick Riordan.

sure Annabeth vs. Rachel was kinda uninspired (though I could make the argument that it contributed to Percy's character development) but then the secret element of NICO being involved??? the SHOCK FACTOR. the DRAMA. the way no one can think of anything else when rereading BotL. the entire layer of relationship dynamics it adds.

and then Hazel and Leo and Frank??? 12yo Era was SHOOK when she read the Sammy flashback. You're telling me Hazel has these awkward moments with Leo not because she likes him, but because she was in love with his GRANDPA?? the total pathos of the moment when Hazel realizes Sammy TOLD LEO ABOUT HER??? the way Leo wouldn't exist if Hazel hadn't given up her entire life??? I was crying at the tragedy of it all.

Jewish Maker Rachel D. Mark is crafting miniature Yahrzeit Memorial Candles as a fundraiser for Palestinian families. For those unfamiliar with the tradition, Jewish mourners light one of these long-burning candles on the anniversary of a loved one's death. Rachel's candles are 1:12 scale, measuring just 1/2"H x 1/4"D. Made with real glass dollhouse cups, Yehuda Yahrzeit Memorial Candle wax, and cotton thread wick. You can purchase one for $36 here.

In her own words:

This past March, I purchased an extra yahrzeit memorial candle when I was celebrating the life of my late brother, Daniel. At that time, I began making 32 miniature candles of grief to honor the 32,000 Palestinians slaughtered in the ongoing genocide. The project has since expanded and I will continue to make these little candles as an expression of the deep grief we feel for those lost to such terror and violence. Anti-Zionism is not the same as anti-Semitic. We, as a people, have always been and will continue to be nomadic tribes. It is not anti-Semitic to question the Israeli government's apartheid-turned-genocide of the Palestinian people. Nor is it anti-Patriotic for an American to question the US government's continued funding of this mass genocide. I am using my art and faith to raise money for organizations actively lobbying US Congress for a ceasefire and organizations directly supporting Palestinians on the ground. All proceeds from sales will be documented and shared transparently.

Her goal is to raise $1,000 through candle sales. All proceeds will be donated to Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP, JewishVoiceForPeace.org), United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA.org), and Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS, palestinercs.org).

yes, i am still not sold with the sequel.

i do agree that ‘double exposure has an interesting plot and new characters AND it could’ve been written better or it didn’t include max at all to sell the game’ can still exist in the same sentence.

but i have to admit that this video i stumbled upon tiktok today exploring max’s trauma back in the first game was beautifully made and devastating to witness at the same time. (i refuse to watch the whole scene because i personally think it’s so corny, i might take back my statement.)

hannah’s performance as max—especially when she is raising her voice; breaking out from her “shy, nerdy, camera geek” person that she constantly boxes herself in—always sends a chill down to my spine.

this is the same girl who watched her best friend get killed in the junkyard and was also drugged during that process, who had to hold the burden of knowing almost every single female student in blackwell is also a victim of the professor he looked up to, who had to rely on no one but her destructive rewinding powers at the age of eighteen, reliving it all over again after how many years.

i just hope that the deck nine developers treat you and chloe price better in the next game.
