The Champions from BOTW become so much more heartbreaking when you incorporate TOTK lore, because it makes Revali, Mipha, Urbosa and Daruk the first attempts of the sages to uphold their vows. Seeing that Ganon was rising, seeing that Zelda and Link were born, they chose Champions to fulfil their old vows: the Sage of Wind gave the advantage of height, wondering if such a power would have enabled them to overwhelm Ganon; the Sage of Water gave the strength of healing, wondering if it could have saved Sonia; the Sage of Lightning gave the ability to infuse lighting into your strikes, wondering if the extra strength would have broken through Ganon’s shields; and the Sage of Fire provided the strongest possible protection, wondering if it would have saved Rauru.

They witness their Champions join up with Zelda, their old companion, and Link, to whom they have sworn service.

They see every single Champion succumb to Ganondorf in spite of everything. A century later, as the princess barely holds on and the knight barely wakes up, they choose new gifts for their Champions.

For Tulin, a horizontal gust - allowing for evasion of the fatal wound that took down Revali.

For Sidon, a shield - there is no need to heal if you can prevent wounds in the first place.

For Riju, ranged lightning - it is better to keep the enemy out of melee range.

For Yunobo, a roll - offence is the greatest defence.

They blamed themselves for the calamity, and so they tried to fix it.

The other keepers of the elven rings were most challenged by the One, why not Elrond? Is his struggle merely hidden? Is it his Maia blood? Is it simply his mixed blood? Is that why Aragorn withstood, too?

Canonically the race of men are most easily corrupted, yet Elrond half-elven, who is almost 40% man, doesn’t notably bat an eyelash. Why?

In fact, I really like this bunch of dialogues and events. Like...

Then Azula to Long Feng :

I can see your whole history in your eyes. You were born with nothing. So you've had to struggle and connive and claw your way to power. But true power, the divine right to rule, is something you're born with. The truth is: they don't know which one of us is going to be sitting down on that throne, and which of us is going to be bowing down. But *I* know, and *you* know.

And then we get this:

In fact, I have reasons to assert that the ideals of the Fire Nation of honor, glory and power are not their real worldview and values (this applies mainly to the ruling elite) and their way of manipulating others. For example, the ideal of a "strong man with honor and blah blah blah" (let's be honest, does anyone from the upper class in the Fire Nation have this honor?) He is only a cog in the huge propaganda machine that they spread to their people. The scene with Azula is quite revealing. Their whole worldview boils down to who you were born to be and your supposed superiority because of it, but it's fake and an illusion because this "superiority" is not their merit at all. But a man who wasn't born with power and somehow made his way there is being belittled because he wasn't born with a golden spoon in his mouth. Then what does a strong and ambitious person and everything like that have to do with it if it all comes down to something given from birth anyway? It's also a typical racist and nationalistic idea of someone being great simply because they were born as someone specific. In the scene at the North Pole, Zuko not only tries to resist his father's toxic image of himself, which he has been trying to hammer into him all his life, but also rejects one of the main ideas of his country. Because "luck" here is the meaning of something given to you from birth, which defines you in the future but Zuko doesn't agree with that.

merlin and mordred fic where mordred just out and confesses that he’s a druid one day and arthur and the knights welcome him without blinking and merlin is Not Not Jealous at how everyone just accepted him and didn’t get upset about the lies and hiding or magical background and arthur is even reviewing the laws to try and find a way to keep mordred out of legal trouble which leads him down a wormhole of research and comes out the other side wanting to repeal the magic ban entirely. merlin is Not Not Not Not Jealous or Envious at how mordred was able to change everything that merlin has been working his ass off to achieve one day, all his bloodshed and misery and pain in the name of a future he only had hope for - only for a druid boy with bigger dreams to come along and change everything within like a year of barely hiding and no bloodshed.

mordred brings up his abysmal magic from his childhood and merlin thinks the open admittance of magic maybe then they’ll start to grow suspicious but they DON’T and instead watch mordred with fascination and call out encouragement as mordred tries to light a fire. merlin is. Slightly Envious. the life mordred has created for himself here, the dynamic he’s forged between him and merlin’s friends - that’s what merlin wanted. he wanted to be seen, be valued, be appreciated entirely without the hiding or secrets. he wanted his friends to watch, entranced, as merlin wove magic through the air. mordred comes to merlin, unaware of his emotional turmoil, and asks for merlin to teach him magic bc he is just not getting it.

merlin wants to reject him and the words are halfway out of his mouth before his mind conjures an evil plan. if he teaches mordred magic and helps him grow in power, then the others might see him as a threat and treat him differently. he agrees. one sided enemies to brothers where merlin begrudgingly teaches mordred magic in hopes of ruining the life and friends he’s made but ends up growing to care for him and taking him under his wing and becoming a reluctant older brother who will never admit that he cares for the annoying little shit but he’d slaughter a whole army to keep him safe

After the Foxes-Trojans game, Nicky runs up to Jeremy.

"Oh my God, you're Jeremy Knox. I'm a huge fan of yours!" Nicky shouts exaggeratedly.

Jeremy turns around with a friendly smile, remembering Nicky's play (he tackled Jeremy hard during the game, though that didn't stop him) when Nicky continues talking like a volcano spewing lava nonstop.

"You know, I'm gay too. I'm out, like you, I mean. But I didn't have as spectacular a coming out as yours, of course. Is it true there are annual gay orgies in California? I mean, I wouldn't go because I have a future husband, but it would have been nice to at least be invited, you know? Or doesn't it work that way? Is there a list you have to sign up for? What does that all work like? How do I get an invitation?"

Jeremy is dumbfounded. He wonders if Nicky has no filter, or if he's trying to embarrass him somehow. In any case, Jeremy acts as he always does in these situations.

"Wow… Do you want an invitation? Would it be for you or your cousin? I hope it's just for one, because it would be a little weird if you both went."

For a moment, Nicky doesn't react. A nervous laugh creeps up his throat.

"Cousin? No, no… My cousins… No… They're…" Nicky glances nervously over his shoulder, right where Andrew remains relaxed while Neil, Kevin, and Jean argue.

Andrew's attention immediately snaps to them, and as if connected by some super protective instinct, Jean's attention does too.

Jeremy greets Andrew with a smile.

Nicky is sweating.

"I… I don't have any cousins!" he says hastily.

Aaron, who was passing by at the time, yells.

"Fuck off!"

"Okay, so… you and Neil?" Jeremy continues. "I don't know if Andrew will agree with that."

Nicky's face goes white.

From then on, Nicky is much more careful about what he asks. And despite the initial shock, he also gains a new friend.
