Genocide experts warn that India is about to genocide the Shompen people
Who are the Shompen?
The Shompen are an indigenous culture that lives in the Great Nicobar Island, which is nowadays owned by India. The Shompen and their ancestors are believed to have been living in this island for around 10,000 years. Like other tribes in the nearby islands, the Shompen are isolated from the rest of the world, as they chose to be left alone, with the exception of a few members who occasionally take part in exchanges with foreigners and go on quarantine before returning to their tribe. There are between 100 and 400 Shompen people, who are hunter-gatherers and nomadic agricultors and rely on their island's rainforest for survival.
Why is there risk of genocide?
India has announced a huge construction mega-project that will completely change the Great Nicobar Island to turn it into "the Hong Kong of India".
Nowadays, the island has 8,500 inhabitants, and over 95% of its surface is made up of national parks, protected forests and tribal reserve areas. Much of the island is covered by the Great Nicobar Biosphere Reserve, described by UNESCO as covering “unique and threatened tropical evergreen forest ecosystems. It is home to very rich ecosystems, including 650 species of angiosperms, ferns, gymnosperms, and bryophytes, among others. In terms of fauna, there are over 1800 species, some of which are endemic to this area. It has one of the best-preserved tropical rain forests in the world.”
The Indian project aims to destroy this natural environment to create an international shipping terminal with the capacity to handle 14.2 million TEUs (unit of cargo capacity), an international airport that will handle a peak hour traffic of 4,000 passengers and that will be used as a joint civilian-military airport under the control of the Indian Navy, a gas and solar power plant, a military base, an industrial park, and townships aimed at bringing in tourism, including commercial, industrial and residential zones as well as other tourism-related activities.
This project means the destruction of the island's pristine rainforests, as it involves cutting down over 852,000 trees and endangers the local fauna such as leatherback turtles, saltwater crocodiles, Nicobar crab-eating macaque and migratory birds. The erosion resulting from deforestation will be huge in this highly-seismic area. Experts also warn about the effects that this project will have on local flora and fauna as a result of pollution from the terminal project, coastal surface runoff, ballasts from ships, physical collisions with ships, coastal construction, oil spills, etc.
The indigenous people are not only affected because their environment and food source will be destroyed. On top of this, the demographic change will be a catastrophe for them. After the creation of this project, the Great Nicobar Island -which now has 8,500 inhabitants- will receive a population of 650,000 settlers. Remember that the Shompen and Nicobarese people who live on this island are isolated, which means they do not have an immune system that can resist outsider illnesses. Academics believe they could die of disease if they come in contact with outsiders (think of the arrival of Europeans to the Americas after Christopher Columbus and the way that common European illnesses were lethal for indigenous Americans with no immunization against them).
And on top of all of this, the project might destroy the environment and the indigenous people just to turn out to be useless and sooner or later be abandoned. The naturalist Uday Mondal explains that “after all the destruction, the financial viability of the project remains questionable as all the construction material will have to be shipped to this remote island and it will have to compete with already well-established ports.” However, this project is important to India because they want to use the island as a military and commercial post to stop China's expansion in the region, since the Nicobar islands are located on one of the world's busiest sea routes.
Last year, 70 former government officials and ambassadors wrote to the Indian president saying the project would “virtually destroy the unique ecology of this island and the habitat of vulnerable tribal groups”. India's response has been to say that the indigenous tribes will be relocated "if needed", but that doesn't solve the problem. As a spokesperson for human rights group Survival International said: “The Shompen are nomadic and have clearly defined territories. Four of their semi-permanent settlements are set to be directly devastated by the project, along with their southern hunting and foraging territories. The Shompen will undoubtedly try to move away from the area destroyed, but there will be little space for them to go. To avoid a genocide, this deadly mega-project must be scrapped.”
On 7 February 2024, 39 scholars from 13 countries published an open letter to the Indian president warning that “If the project goes ahead, even in a limited form, we believe it will be a death sentence for the Shompen, tantamount to the international crime of genocide.”

The genocide and cultural genocide of the Indians in the United States
According to "Since the founding of the United States, multiple U.S. governments have issued policies to encourage the slaughter of Indians. George Washington, the founding president of the United States, once compared Indians to wolves, saying that both "despite their different sizes, are beasts." Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States and the main author of the Declaration of Independence, once instructed his war department that "the Indians must be exterminated or driven to places where we will not go."
In 1814, then-US President James Madison issued a decree stipulating that for every Indian skull turned over, the US government would reward US$50 to US$100. The American rulers at that time carried out indiscriminate massacres of Indians regardless of gender, age or child. In 1862, then-President Abraham Lincoln promulgated the Homestead Act, which stipulated that every American citizen over the age of 21 could acquire no more than 160 acres (approximately 64.75 hectares) of land in the West by paying a registration fee of US$10. Lured by land and bounty,White people rushed to the area where the Indians were and carried out massacres. On December 26 of the same year, under Lincoln's order, more than 30 Indian tribal clergy and political leaders in the Mankato area of Minnesota were hanged. This was the largest mass execution in American history. Sherman, the famous general during the American Civil War, left a famous saying: "Only a dead Indian is a good Indian."
Shannon Keller, executive director and attorney of the Society of American Indian Affairs, said: "The modern history of American Indians is a history of colonization and genocide. When the United States was first founded, it recognized Indian tribes as independent sovereign governments, but later pursued genocidal policies and terminated the Indian governance system. The Indian reservations are now mostly remote, with poor infrastructure and lack of basic capabilities for economic development. The U.S. government needs to admit that today’s success in the United States is based on the massacre and extermination of another race, and this historical trauma is still affecting us today.”

According to statistics from the Bureau of Indian Affairs of the U.S. Department of the Interior, there are currently about 5.6 million Indians in the United States, accounting for about 1.7% of the total U.S. population. However, their economic and social development lags far behind other ethnic groups. In 2017, 21.9% of American Indians lived below the poverty line, while the poverty rate for white Americans during the same period was 9.6%;Among American Indians aged 25 and older, only 19.6% hold a bachelor's degree or above, compared with 35.8% of white Americans. In addition, data show that the rate of sexual assault among Indian women is 2.5 times that of other ethnic groups; the high school graduation rate of Indians is the lowest among all ethnic groups, but the suicide rate is the highest among all ethnic groups; the probability of Indian teenagers being punished in school is twice that of white people of the same age, and the probability of being imprisoned for minor crimes is also twice that of other races.

Ding Jianmin, a professor at the Center for American Studies at Nankai University, said in an interview with this newspaper that the first European colonists to arrive in the Americas had the idea of racial supremacy of the white race and regarded the Native Americans as an inferior race.Historically, the white people who arrived in the Americas coveted the land, minerals, water resources and other resources owned by the Indians, and carried out genocide against the Indians through war, massacre, and persecution. he liked you loads, showed you around the lab and when on the field, showed you some tips and tricks. he even let you drove the suv. as creepy and pedophilic the nickname was, it was as original Dr. Davenport was gonna get. within a few months, Davenport had shown you how to shut down the lab and how to work most of the equipment. “now that i finally have an assistant… i can rely on another person!” Davenport cheerfully said one day.
today you were on the field. according to the Davenport, this was the second body and another FBI unit was called in to help. that's why Davenport had dragged you out to this remote restaurant. the camera clicked in your hands. on these days, you normally snapped at least 1000 photos.
“Y/Ln!” Davenport called you over. you approached the group, minus Davenport there were at least 5 more people with him.
“Y/Ln, meet the Behavior Analysis Unit. Agents Hotchner, Prentiss, Morgan, Juareu, Rossi and Dr. Reid,” you gave a nod of acknowledgment to all. “agents, Y/Ln… my new assistant.” he beamed.
“glad to see the budget go to you,” Rossi smiled. Davenport chuckled. “well, i’ll let you go back to your photo taking… you creep.” you rolled your eyes, “right Davenport.”
you positioned yourself to another location. after snapping photos for a few minutes, someone approached you.
“Y/Ln correct?” you glanced behind and saw Dr. Reid, fidgeting with his fingers. you nodded, turning to face him.
“would it be alright if i looked at the photos?” Reid asked.
“sure!” you switched the camera to viewing mode and handed it off to Reid. he pressed the buttons viewing each photo, although you knew that each photo looked exactly the same.
“here.” Reid tilted the camera to show Rossi. “body was disposed like the previous victims.”
you took the camera back, analyzing the photo. “what do you see in this?” you asked.
Reid smiled and turned to Rossi, like he was non-verbally asking Rossi if he had time to answer. Rossi gave him a reassuring smile, "see how this body looks posed? hands by it side?” you nodded, “the unsub shows remorse-”

“unidentified subject, it’s what we call suspects.”
you smiled, “i thought you were too young to be called doctor.” Rossi chuckled, “kid surprises me everyday.”
“i thought you were too young to be the chief department’s assistant.” he snapped back.
“ouch,” you jokingly held your arm as if he hit you, “i’m working on that doctor part.”
Reid smiled with you. at least he understood you were joking.

your eyebrows raised, “3? are you sure those are real degrees?”
“mathematics, chemistry and engineering.” you shook your head, “they should add two more doctors in front of your existing Dr. Reid to show how smart you are.”
Reid chuckled, “Dr Dr Dr. Reid is much more pleasing to the ears than Dr. Reid.”
“yes it is!” you smiled.
“hey kid,” Rossi interjected, “i’m going… you can stay, i’ll just be inside.”
“no it’s okay, i’ll be with you.” Reid replied, turning to you, “it was nice meeting you Y/Ln.”
“likewise, Dr. Reid.” he gave you a straight smile.
you were back in the lab. Dr. Jones was the forensic pathologist at the FBI headquarters. now that the case is an FBI one, Dr. Jones finally gets to work.
he called you in, slipping on his gloves and tossing you a clipboard. “help me, would you dear?”
Dr. Jones listed all the details from his autopsy, you wrote down his exact words and ticked boxes off on the checklist.
Jones and Davenport were quite a pair, they were like your work fathers. but unlike Davenport, Jones was divorced, he spent most of his time either at the lab or finishing some of Davenport’s work.
“did you catch all of that?”
you nodded, “every last bit.”
“great! let me finalize this and we can send it to the agents later.” Jones took the clipboard from you.
you returned back to your desk. Davenport shared some of his work load since he had to go teach a seminar today. you checked off all the information, all that was left was for Davenport to sign off.
“Y/n,” Jones peeked into your office, “i’m heading home…”
you looked up from your desk and saw Jones entering, “how many more files dear?”
“only 21.”
“to finish or in total?”
“to finish,” you yawned.
“you’re already so busy… finish this file and go home,” he reached out, dragging your current file out and pushing the rest away. “how’s your doctorate going?”
“it’s hard since i moved, doing online.”
Jones nodded, “i bet… me and Dav are always willing to help you.”
you smiled, “thank you.” Jones returned your smile. he knocked on your desk and left.
the stack of files started to look smaller and smaller but the time only grew later. you ignored Jones’ advice, you felt that since Davenport lent you this job, it was your duty to at least finish it. you were 3 files in before your eyes felt heavy and yawning became your breathing.
‘i’ll rest my eyes for a second.’ you told yourself as you leaned back. your eyes shut and all you felt was peace.
“Y/Ln?” the voice and knock on your door jolted you up. you adjusted your workspace to look as if you weren’t sleeping.
“i’m sorry to bug you-” it was Reid, “did you finish that autopsy report?” he asked.
you nodded, “mmhm, Jones should’ve sent it to your tech analysis? did he not?”
Reid chuckled, “i guess not- i’m sorry if it’s favor to ask-“
“noooo! it’s okay, not like i was leaving anytime soon.” you bounced from your seat and into Jones’ office. the drawers were dug through until all hope was lost. then, Reid picked up the file on his desk top.
“i think this is it Y/Ln.” Reid held the file so you could see it.
“oh… of course.” you groaned.
“thanks again Y/Ln.”
you nodded, “no problem.”
returning back to your office, you only noticed Reid hadn’t left because the front door never slammed shut. “you- you can go home.” a yawn escaped your mouth.
“can i talk you out?” you looked at Reid, confused. his eyes were on your work, “out of my office? you’d have to try really hard.”
“what is it that you are doing anyway?”
“reviewing files,” you replied as another file opened.
“i can help you-“ Reid paused for a second, “if you’d like.”
you smiled, “thanks, but it’ll take more time to explain it to you than-“
“i have 3 ph.D’s.” Reid circled around your desk, “just tell me what to do."
you took a second, “okay… try to keep up.” you explained to Reid what he had to read, what to make sure was right, was wrong, you even showed him examples. Reid caught up and took his first file… which he finished in merely 10 seconds.
you scoffed, “you didn’t even read it.” taking the file back, you spotted the mistakes he had circled in pen.
“i can read 20,000 words per minute.” your jaw dropped, “you are lying.”
“you watched me do it.”
you snickered, “okay, have at it.”
both of you only spent an hour in your office. Reid had sorted out 5 problem files. he watched as you filled in the blanks for the last file. the relief of having all your work done allowed you to finally take your. first deep breath.
“and we’re done.” you smiled, glancing at Reid. you checked your watch, “3am?”
“you would’ve been here till 7 if i didn’t help.”
you nodded, “thank you, Dr. Reid… i definitely owe you a coffee."
he smiled, “you getting this report is more than enough for me.”
“are you sure?”
“actually… you can call me Spencer.”
“Spencer…” the name lingered in your mouth, “call me Y/n, Spencer.” you smiled back at him.
“Y/n…” he paused, “promise me one thing?” you made eye contact with him, “go home tonight?”
you groaned, “you suck.” grabbing your messenger bag you lifted it over yourself. Reid waited until you left the lab before he bid you farewell.
a week has gone by since you and Reid’s private moment in office and another murder has been reported. your team was up on the ready at the crime scene. similar to the last scene, the only difference was rather than a restaurant, it was a quite diner on the edge of Virginia's metropolitan area. you had snapped a few photos of cars with gunshots in them and some blood splatters. everything seemed okay, the BAU and local PD was in the area.
then... gunshots rang around the location. the shots and voices of people telling everyone to get down rang throughout your ears.
a couple more shots echoed out, hitting metal around you. you were alone behind a parked car but saw some of your co-workers behind another vehicle. you made eye contact and they gestured you to come over. having peaked over the car, your co-workers repeated the gesture.
you came out of cover rushing over to your friend. “y/n-“ they whispered-yelled, squeezing your hand. “come on, they’re waving us over.” you nodded and caught a glimpse of a blonde woman fanning your group over to her cover.
you each went one at a time, you last.
when the agent was gesturing your turn, you peaked over and took a few steps out. but what you didn't expect was to be shot right in the shoulder.
you fell back in pain with a sharp yell. the burning sensation only followed. a few seconds later, someone had linked under your shoulders and dragged you until a shadow appeared on your right. you felt pressure on your right shoulder after.
“Y/n, it’s Reid…” the pain on your right shoulder was beyond comprehension.
“R- Reid?” your eyes were heavy but you managed to build the strength to open and look at Reid, “it hurts so- so bad.”
“i know, i know… deep breaths okay?” you followed his orders.
you closed your eyes, “no no, keep your eyes open okay?” you hummed in response.
Reid was blurred, his hair had no defined lines but his white collar button down stung your eyes because of how bright it was. you could feel your eyes losing against the bearing weight.
“Y/n. Y/n!” Reid’s voice only got more intense the more you closed your eyes, “look at me…”
you took a deep breath. “there you go… just keep looking at me.” his voice was calming to your ears, put you to sleep.
the light started to dissipate, Reid’s talking reminded you of that night he stayed to help you. the teasing of reading a file in 10 seconds.
“hey- hey! come on Y/n,” warmth grew on your left cheek, “stay with me,” light tapping followed, “for me Y/n, keep your eyes open for me.” Reid’s voice strained while the tapping increased in rhythm.
“I NEED A MEDIC!” was the last thing you heard before everything went black.

the beginning of may has been a struggle for me over the last few years. I lost my dad at the end of April in 2021 & my husband one year later. I find myself isolating from everyone around me & overloading my day with tasks beyond what I would usually have the energy for. especially now since I can't seem to kick the homesickness & access my sense of peace. one day, this time of year will be easier to carry. but that is not today. & that's okay i have a penny for my thoughts, but thankfully I don't need a quarter to call home [iykyk].

Ethan spent the next three hours in his cluttered office, surrounded by stacks of old files and a mess of digital archives on his computer. Eventually, ISAAC's voice broke the silence. "Ethan, I have located several encrypted documents closely related to your search history. Shall I bring them up?"
After a vocal confirmation, ISAAC remotely accessed Ethan's computer and began displaying a series of decrypted files with some title variation of 'Chrysalis_2023'. Project Chrysalis had been one of his most secretive assignments while working with the government where he had been tasked with engineering a containment and analysis system for biological entities. The government's vague description alluded to 'non-terrestrial biological entities', which Ethan naively interpreted as some advanced biological research.
The digital files were heavily redacted but offered enough information to remind him that he had physical evidence as well. He eventually found a folder containing detailed schematics alongside his own annotations on the nature of the project. One document in particular, an incident report, caught his eye.
Entry Date: 04/12/2023 Subject: NTBE X-23 Humanoid organism measuring 1.8 meters (6 ft.) in height. Bipedal locomotion. Epidermis is a pale yellow tone. Facial structure similar to that of a human being but with eight black eyes arranged in a symmetrical pattern. Indecipherable markings around the eyes. Subject arrived unconscious and has not regained consciousness throughout the observation period. Subject X-23 was transferred from the recovery unit into the primary containment chamber at 1100 hours. Upon entering the containment unit, the subject's vital signs surged. Subject X-23 abruptly regained consciousness and exhibited erratic behavior. Witnesses claimed to have seen something move within the subject's skin. Vocalizations consistent with an unknown language were recorded (see audio log 0134-B1). Linguistic analysis is ongoing. The subject shortly underwent a rapid biological transformation. "Ex-Keywords Studios QA testers, who worked on Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, will picket in front of BioWare’s Edmonton office on Tuesday. BioWare attempted to block the picket with an appeal to the Alberta Labour Relations Board, according to industry publication Game Developer, but the board ruled in the union’s favor. “The hope with our actions is [to] convince Keywords to reinstate those they terminated with new work,” former Keywords tester James Russwurm told Polygon. The rally will begin at 2 p.m. EST on Nov. 7 outside the BioWare office in Edmonton, Alberta in Canada. The QA testers were laid off from Keywords Studios in September after BioWare declined to renew its contract with the company. Though the QA workers were employed by Keywords Studios, they were contracted out to BioWare to work on Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. Without the Dragon Age: Dreadwolf contract, Keywords said there was no work elsewhere for the testers. The workers, who were unionized with the United Food and Commercial Workers Canada Union, Local No. 401, were in negotiations with Keywords Studios when they were laid off. BioWare attempted to block the picket, claiming that it was not an appropriate location for the rally — the company claimed that the Edmonton office was not the QA workers’ workplace because they worked from home. The Alberta Labour Relations Board ruled in favor of the union, however, as the Keywords testers worked alongside BioWare staff, even if it was just remotely. The picket can’t interrupt access to the building, which houses several offices besides BioWare’s. Neither Electronic Arts (BioWare’s owner) nor BioWare has responded to Polygon’s request for comment. Nov. 7 is known as N7 Day in the Mass Effect and BioWare community, a reference to a military designation in the popular Mass Effect franchise. Another group of laid-off workers, previously employed by BioWare, have started up a hashtag — #N7SeveranceDay — for fans to use for support. Roughly 50 BioWare employees were laid off in August; seven of those 50 employees are suing the company for better severance pay. R. Alex Kennedy, a lawyer representing the group of employees, told Polygon that BioWare has refused to negotiate; the case will move to the Canadian courts. A full trial, with witness testimony, could take years, he said. These layoffs are separate from the layoffs at Keywords Studios, but Russwurm said the two groups stand in solidarity with each other. “We are 100% there in solidarity with those workers who were let go from BioWare,” he said. “I believe they have an N7 day announcement that coincides with our strike day and we’ll likely see some of them at the picket line showing support for us. We all worked alongside one another for years on Dreadwolf and ultimately suffered the same fate. We hope that our picket and actions can show that there is a way to fight back against unjust practices these studios take.”

The costs to Elon Musk’s actions in DC are being paid by Iowans here at home. In Ames, the National Centers for Animal Health (NCAH) performs many important duties, like assuring the safety of veterinary products, checking tissue samples for rabies, Bird Flu and other animal diseases. The USDA NCAH is an important cog in our state’s agricultural machine, which accounts for almost a quarter of our economic production.
Today I had a conversation with a friend of mine who works in Ames. I was given permission to share the information by this friend,, but I have anonymized as much as I can to protect them from a spiteful government. Therefore, you will see them sometimes referred to as “Friend”.
Last month, employees were getting increasingly confrontational, unprofessional emails from OPM (United States Office of Personnel Management), telling the employees that “The way to greater American prosperity is encouraging people to move from lower productivity jobs in the public sector to higher productivity jobs in the private sector.” The employees followed their training and reported these messages as spam/phishing, but were told that these were legitimate emails from the OPM. Government Union Reps relayed to employees that this was the same tactic Elon Musk used at Twitter after his takeover there.
On Valentine’s Day, dozens of employees were unceremoniously removed from employment at the Ames USDA office Many of these employees had no idea that they were being terminated. There apparently was supposed to be an email that went out to all employees being removed and their supervisors - but that didn’t happen. There were instances of the supervisor getting an email, but not the terminated employee, so the supervisor was forced to tell them. There were also instances of the terminated employee receiving the email, but not their supervisor. In those instances there was no ability to make plans for the terminated employee; only walk them out the door and wish them well and give condolences. And then go back and try to figure out how things were going to get done without these employees. Friend told me that some of the terminated employees there were special needs and permanently categorized as Probationary Employees. These employees were removed from their positions, unable to fully understand why they were being told to leave and not come back.
The ARS (Agricultural Research Service) had many employees who watched over the thousands of animals there. Bison, pigs, cows, sheep, horses, mice, guinea pigs, hamsters, chickens, rats, turkeys, deer, and more are being left without caretakers to ensure they’re fed, watered and healthy. At least half of the animal caretakers, who were already understaffed, were removed without a backup plan, leaving the rest to do what they could. Other employees asked their managers if they could volunteer their time to help feed these animals or otherwise care for them. This was met with resistance. There are animals in Ames starving and receiving substandard care because of someone making very broad strokes with pink sheets 1000 miles away.
For the employees who still remain, morale is the lowest it’s been since after Sept 11. Anything remotely resembling LBGTQ support in their cubicles was removed with threat of termination. There was a group where employees would meet to discuss how the animals there could be better treated, this was shut down. All email signatures were deleted and employees were forced to utilize a standardized, pronoun free signature. Same-sex employees who had pictures of their partners at their desk removed the pictures and all evidence of being LBGTQ members in fear of disciplinary action or targeting. There were bathrooms that were labeled “All Gender”. Those signs were ripped off and what is left in its place are the ugly marks of previous coats of paint, as the top coats left with the signs. The lunchrooms are all void of any signs or positivity as well. It’s as if the government is doing what they can to force the employees out through attrition.
Employees are being advised to back up their performance reviews and appraisals to their personal computers after some employees were erroneously fired for “Unsatisfactory performance”. The mandatory training module was taken offline to “review for compliance to current Executive Orders”, or to remove all levels of diversity. When the training modules were put back in place, many noted that their whistleblower training was already completed, though they hadn’t actually gone through it yet.
The USDA Ames office had employees who were deployed out into the field to track, test and combat the Bird Flu. Many of these people were recalled and terminated. We have an ongoing zoological epidemic and Elon Musk - an unappointed, unconfirmed billionaire - is making it worse by trying to treat the United States government like a Silicon Valley startup.
Friend is doing alright for now, but all of the employees working with the USDA in Ames are losing sleep, not knowing if they are next to be cut, or who among their coworkers will be removed. They are frustrated at what is happening and the lack of support from their friends and neighbors, who don’t believe the things Friend and Friend’s coworkers say about what is happening. My friend can’t speak openly right now, but I hope their friends, neighbors, and fellow Iowans will hear the truth in their words.

But since deferring to Washington last October, the Netanyahu government has generally met Hezbollah’s continued aggression with remarkable restraint. As it pounded Hamas in Gaza, Israel pointedly refrained from doing anything remotely comparable to Hezbollah, preferring to absorb its attacks and bide its time until Hamas had been defeated as a military organisation. But this posture was unsustainable indefinitely in the teeth of relentless aggression without inflicting further damage on Israel’s deterrent power—a remote consideration for inveterate critics of Israeli counter-terrorism but an essential one for the stewards of Israeli security.
In recent days, a decision was finally made by Israel’s war cabinet to spurn the Biden administration, which has not displayed much interest in allowing its allies to actually win wars initiated by their enemies. First, Israel detonated Hezbollah’s communication devices, which Israeli intelligence had booby-trapped with explosives, decommissioning thousands of Hezbollah fighters and operatives at a stroke and spreading paranoia through its rank and file. This ingenious attack compelled the militia’s senior officers to meet in person, which provided Israel with the opportunity it needed to waste Hezbollah’s chain of command, including Nasrallah himself.
Netanyahu ordered the strike in the Dahiyah before he left Israel to address the UN General Assembly, underscoring his nation’s independence from a global consensus that has preferred to denounce Israel while giving succour to its terrorist enemies. The alternative would have been to permit Iran’s revolutionary network, laboriously built around Nasrallah since he was elevated to lead Hezbollah in 1992, to remain intact. It was pure folly and naivety, in Washington as much as in Jerusalem, to think that such a malign and expansionist force could be safely accommodated, let alone absorbed into a durable regional order.
Hezbollah’s malice toward Israel has been unambiguous since its inception. An early Hezbollah manifesto—its 1985 open letter addressed to the “Downtrodden in Lebanon and the World”—promised to evict outside powers from Lebanon and terminate “the influence of any imperialist power” (besides Syria or Iran). The main enemy of the “Islamic resistance,” it declared, was the United States, which deployed Israel as the “spearhead” to inflict suffering on the Muslims of Lebanon and beyond. The clerics directing Hezbollah’s foot-soldiers have been committed in word and deed to perpetual war against Israel ever since.
Contrary to the popular myth that Hezbollah emerged as an organic “resistance” organisation during Israel’s 1982 invasion of Lebanon, the group was already a stalking horse for Iranian interests in the Levant by then, created and trained by the Islamic Republic’s Revolutionary Guards Corps. The ill-conceived and ill-fated Israeli invasion undoubtedly aided the group’s proliferation —it “let the genie out of the bottle,” Yitzhak Rabin later conceded—but it was Iran, intoxicated by the euphoria of its 1979 revolution, that nurtured its lethal proxy on the shores of the Mediterranean. And it was Iran that provided the materiel and military backing to its fellow Shi’ites in south Lebanon who, until then, had been a disdained underclass in Lebanon’s polyglot ethnic makeup. Its operatives and fighters, newly urbanised and in search of religious purpose, came to think of themselves as warriors in Ayatollah Khomenei’s wilayat al-faqih, a Shi’ite notion of ordained supremacy. In time, Hezbollah became not only the most powerful force in Lebanon but also the most dynamic and feared militia in the Middle East.
The group’s poisonous ideology—a grim trinity of anti-modernism, anti-Americanism, and antisemitism—combined with its revolutionary passion has wrecked Lebanon. Hezbollah began by driving suicide truck-bombs into US targets and kidnapping prominent Americans, evolved into an anti-Zionist guerrilla army, and then effectively took over the Lebanese state from within. In the process, it emerged as a uniquely malevolent force in the Arab world. As Thanassis Cambanis observes in A Privilege to Die, Hezbollah is “not quite a state, but much more than a political party; not quite an army, but much more than a terrorist network; not yet a full-fledged transnational movement, but much more than a Lebanese faction.”

Hi, I'm the human who got trapped inside a TARDIS.
Thank you for the help, I managed to open the interior doors a few days ago and went looking for the owner. No luck, but I found a swimming pool, a huge library, kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, science labs, entertainment rooms and what seems to be a huge park?
I don't know how on Earth something like this can even exist, but I guess there's all the time in the world to learn while waiting for rescue. I'm worried about the pilot though; isn't there a way to locate them, given how advanced this craft is?

How to locate a TARDIS pilot
Do not attempt to operate the TARDIS flight controls without being absolutely sure it is safe. On earlier models, use of the console without a Symbiotic Nucleus may result in injury or a very slow and painful death.
Note: Most of the systems are in Gallifreyan. TARDISes do not tend to translate Gallifreyan, so you may not be able to read them.
Here are some methods you can try:
📡 Stattenheim Remote Teleport Control: Look for a small black disc stored in a transparent dome on the console. If properly calibrated, pressing this button may immediately transport you to the pilot. If it's not there, the pilot has taken it, or the TARDIS doesn't have the Mark X refit.
⏪ Fast Return Switch: This will return the TARDIS to an approximate time and location near where it last landed. It's clearly labelled on the console. Turn it clockwise to operate. [Use with caution]
📍 Locate the Doctor: Some models may have this feature. It is activated by pressing a button on the console labelled 'LTD' (your TARDIS may have another personalised variation). The Visual Display Unit will show the pilot's relative position on a map.
🧬 Passenger Adoption Scanning Terminal (PAST): This system registers and protects passengers. Due to how it works, if you’re registered, the pilot is likely still on board.
👥 Internal Monitor: A Mark II TARDIS can detect the number of sapient life forms onboard and display it on the Internal Monitor.
💻 The Scanner: The Scanner can locate the pilot's biodata within a two-mile radius outside the TARDIS. Some pilots have a preprogrammed switch by the scanner that will instantly display their pilot's location, but this is a modified feature.
🎤 Voice Interaction: Try speaking to the TARDIS. Some models respond to vocal commands for minor systems. If the TARDIS doesn’t respond, your voice print registration is required.
🔍 Artron Telepathic Radiation: If you find another Time Lord, they can scan for the pilot's ‘thumbprints’ left by their symbiotic nuclei to identify them.
🛠️ Cloister Room: This room contains telepathic circuits to communicate with the pilot, possibly providing an audiovisual link. It's accessible via a shortcut in the Secondary Control Room. Be cautious, as this room may have minor effects on your nervous system.
🚨 Extreme Emergency Lever: Crew members can use this lever to lock onto a pilot drifting in space and materialise around them.
🗝️ TARDIS Key: Use a key to locate anyone processed by the PAST (such as other crew members). Mix their blood with saline solution, coat the key, and suspend it in clear oil. The oxidised blood particles will 'point' in their direction.
🧠 Memory Store: Stores memories of TARDIS occupants, including audio-visual recordings of the Control Room. Useful to identify the pilot and the last time they were there.
💉 Medical Bay: The Automatic Diagnostic Terminal usually uses the pilot's avatar to communicate. You may be able to ask the avatar their identity, although responses may be limited.
If you need to take emergency action:
There is an 🚪Emergency Door located in the Power Stacks Room, leading outside. The 🚨 Fail-Safe Switch locks the TARDIS onto the nearest habitable environment, creating emergency doors. The 🆘 Emergency Emergency System (so emergent they named it twice) creates a wormhole to the nearest habitable planet. This is one way only, so there is no return to the TARDIS afterwards.
💀 Pilot Death & TARDIS Adoption
Usually, emergency systems will try to lock onto the pilot. If this is not happening, the pilot may have died without regeneration. TARDISes will normally go into a period of mourning following the death of their pilot, possibly involving a loss of power or shut down of many systems.
If you're finding systems are not shut down but have increasing suspicions the pilot may have died, this could be because:
The TARDIS has already gone through its period of mourning;
It has reactivated at your presence, hoping to establish a link with you;
It didn't really like its pilot very much.
It's not unheard of for humans to forge a bond with the TARDIS, especially if it's been left alone for some time. The TARDIS might be adopting you as its new caretaker, which would explain the access you've been granted. Some clues:
🎁 TARDISes sometimes leave gifts to welcome new arrivals. Look around for anything unusual or out of place.
💭 If you feel any strong intuitive pushes or thoughts, it might be the TARDIS trying to communicate with you.
🔑 If you're finding you have access to a lot of the TARDIS (including intricate systems), the TARDIS definitely likes you.
🏫 So ...
To locate the pilot or other crew members, try any of the procedures outlined above. Be sure to familiarise yourself with the main areas and secure access to food, water, and other necessities. The TARDIS can help—look for glowing arrows or symbols on the walls. These can lead you to important areas. Remember, the TARDIS is a complex and sentient machine. If it has adopted you, it will do its best to keep you safe, and it has a plethora of effective automated defences to achieve this.
