What is International Moon Day?
International Moon Day is an annual day dedicated to the Earth’s one and only natural satellite, the Moon!
It is held every year on July 20, which is the anniversary of the day on which astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin famously set foot on the Moon in 1969.
The Moon landing is still considered one of humanity’s greatest achievements.
International Moon Day is all about commemorating the Apollo 11 mission while teaching people about the Moon and astronomy.
Significance of International Moon Day
• The General Assembly declared International Moon Day, a United Nations-designated international day to be observed annually on July 20, in its Resolution 76/76 on “International cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space” in 2021.
• International Moon Day marks the anniversary of the first landing by humans on the Moon as part of the Apollo 11 lunar mission.
• The celebrations will also consider the achievements of all States in the exploration of the Moon and raise public awareness of sustainable Moon exploration and utilization.
History of International Moon Day
• American astronauts Neil Armstrong, and Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldrin became the first humans in history to land on the Moon on 20 July 1969.
The grand Apollo 11 mission took place eight years after the national goal announcement by President John F. Kennedy to send a man to the moon by the end of the 1960s.
• The idea for the mission to send astronauts to the moon started when President Kennedy appealed to a special joint session of Congress in 1961, stating:
“I believe this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to Earth.”
• At the time of Kennedy’s proposal, the United States was still head-to-head with the Soviet Union in advancements in space exploration and, since it was during the time of the Cold War, the proposal was welcomed.
The first unmanned Apollo mission was initiated by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), after five years of effort and hard work by their international team of engineers and scientists.
The first mission served as a testing phase for the structural resilience of the launch spacecraft vehicle.
• At 9:32 A.M. on 16 July 1969, the whole world witnessed Apollo 11 take off from Kennedy Space Center with three astronauts on board — Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, and Michael Collins.
Neil Armstrong was the commander of the mission.
The spacecraft entered the lunar orbit after three days, on July 19.
The lunar module, Eagle, disengaged from the main command module the next day, manned by Armstrong and Aldrin.
When Eagle touched the lunar surface, Armstrong radioed his historical message to Mission Control in Houston, Texas:
“The Eagle has landed.”
• At 10:39 P.M., Armstrong exited the lunar module and made his way down its ladder.
His progress was being recorded by a television camera attached to the module, transmitting signals back to Earth, where the world was watching with bated breath.
• At 10:56 P.M., Armstrong stepped on the moon’s powdery surface, and spoke his iconic words:
“That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

Hello out there, future me or otherwise
Happy New Years! Hopefully whoever is reading this got to do something fun. I went to a brewery with my partner, and it was pretty cool. Most of the people in the brewery left before midnight, I'm assuming to go to other places to celebrate. Bad news for the bar, but I honestly prefer it when the bar isn't super packed.
I'm don't usually make New Years resolutions, but I have some things that I have been working on that I want to prioritize going forward into 2025.
I have been going to the gym more often. I've always been a pretty active person. I like to run, I love riding my bike, and I'm a pretty avid yogi. However, I have always felt super self-conscious at the gym. Especially when it comes to lifting weights. I can't really put my finger on what has happened, but recently that has changed. Lately when I go to the gym, I don't really care what the people lifting around me think. And as I go more, I get less self-conscious. Not necessarily because I'm getting stronger (though I am), but I'm realizing that nobody actually cares about me [at the gym]. Just like I don't care what workouts they are doing, they probably do not care at all about what I'm doing. Also, I'm noticing that most people have terrible form. So, who are they to judge? lol. In 2025, I want to keep going to the gym somewhat regularly. I'll probably get bored eventually and move on to something else that is physically stimulating. But even if I decide I want to go back to doing yoga 3 times a week or I want to increase my milage on the bike, it'll still be nice to add weight training to my repertoire of workouts.
I also will be going on more trips in 2025. Me and my partner already have several events planned, including a concert in March that I am SUPER excited about. We decided we want to plan things to look forward to. I find when I'm stressed at work, thinking about a trip I have planned or a band I'm going to go see helps me to not feel so miserable.
But more than anything, I have been trying to find ways to feed my creativity. I was always very artistic as a teenager, and I think everybody around me thought I was going to go to art school. I ended up getting a STEM degree. While I definitely don't regret it, I do miss just...being creative. I miss being given a prompt and creating something out of it. I used to do film photography in high school, I used to sew, I used to paint. But as I got older, I got focused on life and left a lot of that behind. So, in the latter half of this year, I've been really putting an effort into fueling my creative side, whether or not it's profitable. I've been drawing just to draw, I got into digital embroidery so I can make my own patches, and I've been making my own holiday decorations. My uncle is even sending me one of his film cameras, and I'm super excited about the idea of getting back into film photography. My laundry room has no windows and a utility sink, so I'm tossing around the idea of using it as a dark room. And of course, this fanfiction is part of that too. I've never been big into writing, but I have always wanted to be. I'm definitely guilty of buying extravagant journals, just to leave them on my shelf and never writing a word in them. Even though this is fanfiction and not my own intellectual property, I'm having a lot of fun writing my story.
On that note, I will probably not be writing anything today. I'm a little hungover, so me and my partner are spending the day lounging around the house and not being productive. I have the weekend off (and my partner works all weekend) so I will probably get a lot of Chapter 6 written then. I think after reading Chapter 5, y'all know where we are headed on the map. I'm not sure if we'll get there in Chapter 6; Gladys has some prepping she needs to do. However, we will definitely get there by Chapter 7.
Thank you to anybody reading my story. Whether it's just 3 people, or 300 people, it means a lot to know that a few people are taking the time to read something I have written. I hope you kind people have a great year!

Junior Senior - Move Your Feet 2002
"Move Your Feet" is a song by Danish pop duo Junior Senior from their debut studio album, D-D-Don't Don't Stop the Beat (2002). The song, originally released in June 2002 in the duo's native Denmark, was issued worldwide in 2003 and became Junior Senior's biggest hit, reaching #4 in Denmark, #3 in the UK, #10 in Ireland, and #20 in Australia. In 2013, the song re-entered the French Singles Chart at #11. The song was accompanied by an animated music video by British art collective Shynola, using low-resolution (90×72) pixel art produced using Deluxe Paint. The video features animated characters of the members of Junior Senior, dancing figures, and personified inanimate objects.
The second single, "Rhythm Bandits", was featured on the soundtrack for FIFA 2004, while the third single, "Shake Your Coconuts", can be found on the Looney Tunes: Back in Action soundtrack alongside "Move Your Feet", and as background menu music in the video game Worms 3D. The song "Good Girl, Bad Boy" can be heard in the film She's the Man when Viola arrives at the private school masquerading as her brother. "Move Your Feet" was also featured in the 2004 comedy film White Chicks and the 2008 comedy film Forgetting Sarah Marshall. "Move Your Feet" received a total of 82,6% yes votes!

"If they put more superheroes in Fallout I'll talk about it more."
🔥 The Silver Shroud?
The Silver Shroud falls somewhere on a spectrum between genuinely really conceptually interesting and borderline meanspirited to me. As I've mentioned briefly before, the paradox of superheroes in the Fallout universe is that they aren't a fundamentally weirder class of person than any of the other 1950s genre pastiche archetypes that we're expected to take seriously, but the flip side is that superheroes would match with the rest of the Fallout idiom so perfectly, and are so modular in terms of what other genre elements they can incorporate into their own genre, that they could easily become the most overbearing element of the Fallout setting if steps aren't taken to keep them siloed. Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 share a throughline in that they both silo superheroism by portraying it as the product of arrested development.
Kent Connolly is a sad, sad guy, with good reason. He's been trying to keep his hobby alive for centuries- terminals in Fallout 76 reveal that he's been adjacent to attempts to make superheroes a real thing for over 200 years, and it has never, ever worked over the long haul, and yet he keeps on trucking, trying to make everyone else see what he sees in these characters. The Shroud is a significantly different archetype of pulp hero from the ones who show up in Fallout 3- rather than a pastiche of the bloodless, stakeless four-color capes of the golden age, he's a more directly a pastiche of The Shadow- the 1930s radio-show proto-superhero who was significantly more willing to use gun violence as a conflict resolution tool than his successors would be. This dovetails with the gameplay loop- In Fallout 3, the entire point of the superheroes is that they're engaging in a significantly more limited playfight compared to what the Lone Wanderer gets up to on a typical Tuesday, but the Sole Survivor, when adopting the Silver Shroud persona, doesn't really have to change their MO at all in order to embody the (admittedly somewhat exaggerated and retroactively attributed by later writers and audiences) retributive ultraviolence of the Shadow's pulp archetype. They're doing their normal thing in a funny voice. And the extent to which you're just doing your normal thing is what really puts the screws to the idea that doing it in a costume is actually adding anything here. You are, at best, making a slight detour to slightly brighten a shut-ins day, and that adds a fundamental air of sadness to the entire outing. But at the end of the day, you do briefly embody the archetype. You do kick down the door and save the hostage from the gangsters. And as a result it does end up briefly straddling the line between deeply silly and deeply cool. The other thing about The Silver Shroud is that in a roundabout way it re-enforces my standing theory that Fallout 3 was originally meant to take place within living memory of The Great War. Of the three Fallout games that directly feature living superheroes, two of them- 4 and 76- are associated with characters who were directly enmeshed in pre-war pop culture. The Mistress of Mystery and her cohort adopted the superheroic aesthetic because it would still be legible to a plurality of survivors; Kent Conolly's rock to roll uphill forever is that he's one of the only people left to whom any of this means anything. But in Fallout 3 the two superheroes just sort of....materialize, after 200 years, with their shticks fully formed. Furthermore, in the Hubris comics office in downtown DC you can find a pre war letter to the editor extolling the relatability of the fictional AntAgonizer, and doing so prior to starting The Superhuman Gambit gives you a unique option for talking down the real one. My strong suspicion is that in an earlier draft of the story, The AntAgonizer was written as a pre-war character who sent that letter to the editor herself as a teenager or young adult, and adopted the AntAgonizer persona after living through the war as a coping mechanism.

Wait, what's this about the retconning of Minthe's BPD?
There's a lot you can find on it online as it is (I've talked about it plenty in previous posts as well) so I'm gonna try and keep the explanation brief if that's ok!
Basically it was confirmed ages back that Minthe was initially written with BPD, but that was later retconned and removed. While there's no definitive reason as to why she retconned it, I think it's fairly obvious it's because it wasn't a good look for her to write the character with a very stigmatized and severely misunderstood mental illness who would be 1.) an abuser and 2.) inevitably turned into a plant.
But there's still proof of Minthe having BPD evident in S1 of LO, particularly with Episode 76 which was literally called Splitting.
Tumblr media
"Splitting" is a very BPD-specific term, in which an individual with BPD experiences severe mood swings, impulsivity, and difficulty in viewing things outside of a black and white perspective. We actually see Minthe experience splitting, hence the episode title, it's all very intentional.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Minthe is viewing this entire problem as her vs. Hades. And it's not entirely owed to her being self-centered, she shows through her inner monologue that she's very self-aware of the fact that she's being harsh, that much of what happened was due to her own actions, and even blames herself for acting the way that she is but not knowing why. This is very much what splitting can feel like for individuals with BPD (especially undiagnosed BPD!) experiencing splitting - an inability to connect inner rationalizations to outward actions and vice versa, even if you're aware of it and trying to draw that connection.
When this was retconned, it was done specifically by Rachel's mods within her Discord. No other clarification through her socials or through the comic itself was done.
Tumblr media
It already wasn't a great look to write a character who was doomed to be villainized with a highly stigmatized mental disorder. It comes across that Rachel only gave her BPD in the first place because she herself had fallen for those misconceptions and went "well if we give her BPD that'll be the reason why she's so mean and nasty all the time, it's the perfect way to make her the obvious bad guy!" But it makes it an even worse look when Rachel bent under the pressure of people discussing how problematic it was (and hoping Minthe would get some kind of redemption which Rachel never planned to give her) and reversed the decision. It really only really made it worse because 1.) you can't retcon out what you clearly intended in the beginning when it's so visibly there (such as through Ep 76) and 2.) it just goes to show that she was never planning on giving Minthe any sort of redemption arc or chance to learn from her actions/heal from her mistakes, she just wanted to use a mental illness she didn't bother to understand or empathize with to make an abuser.
It really just further stigmatizes BPD as a whole because now we only see the absolute nastiest parts often affiliated with BPD (with what remains in the comic pre-retcon) with no closure or resolution or hope for people who either have BPD or want to understand it more.

Reposted from @hyperallergic Every May 15 for the last 76 years, Palestinians around the world commemorate the #Nakba (Arabic for "the catastrophe”), during which 750,000 Palestinians were permanently displaced from their homelands as a result of the establishment of the State of Isr@el. During this mass exodus, the ancient embroidery practice known as taṭrīz or tatreez became an invaluable way for Palestinians to preserve their history and culture.
Tumblr media
In the last seven months, amid Israel’s relentless attacks on G@za, many have engaged in and revived the shared practice. In November, artist Maya Amer used the embroidery as a way to visualize the more than 8,000 Palestinians who had been killed by Israeli airstrikes at that time. Others led the collaborative project Tatriz for Palestine to honor the civilians killed by the Israeli military in G@za. Today, the death toll in the G@za Strip has risen to more than 34,904.
Tumblr media
Zain Masri was first introduced to the practice as a child while visiting her grandmother in Jordan. Decades later, when she reconnected with the art form during the pandemic, she quickly realized that there was an urgent need for accessible, high-resolution, and simple taṭrīz patterns in the international embroidery community and Palestinian diaspora.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To address this issue, Masri launched the Tirazain Initiative — a free online searchable library available in English and Arabic containing digitized patterns for more than one thousand taṭrīz motifs.
Masri told Hyperallergic that she hoped the digital library would help provide “a platform for Palestinian women to share their work and to connect with other taṭrīz enthusiasts,” as well as promote the art form across cultures and communities.

The scale of the protests entirely discredits the official political line of the corporate media and the political representatives of big business—in both the Democratic and Republican parties—that Trump is a political colossus who cannot be challenged.
Trump’s actions during the first 76 days of his second presidency are massively unpopular, with large majorities opposing the mass firings of federal workers, the cuts in social spending, and his onslaught against democratic rights, particularly directed against immigrant workers and international students protesting Israeli genocide in Gaza.
Many of those who voted for Trump are confronting the reality of a government of the oligarchy. The fascist president’s “approval” rating has plunged even before the impact has been felt from his April 2 decision to launch a trade war against the entire world. The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll, conducted before the White House’s imposition of tariffs on all imports, found Trump’s approval at 42 percent, with only 22 percent feeling the US was headed in the “right direction.”
Under these conditions, the Democrats declare that nothing can be done. Trump, according to them—with his five-seat majority in the House and three-seat majority in the Senate, among the narrowest party margins of “control” of Washington in modern history—cannot be defeated.
The truth is, however, that the Democrats do not want to defeat him. Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer led a group of Democrats to cast the decisive votes to pass a resolution to fund the federal government on Trump’s terms for the next six months.
There are two opposing class-based responses to Trump. On the one hand, there is the growing opposition to Trump’s attacks on social programs, democratic rights, immigrants, and his support for the genocide in Gaza. On the other hand, there is the opposition of sections of the ruling class, for which the Democrats speak, which agree on Trump’s assault on social programs and are opposed to him primarily on foreign policy issues—particularly Trump’s deviations from the war against Russia in Ukraine.
The response of the Democratic Party to Saturday’s mass turnout is one of shock and nervousness, even horror. They are frightened above all by the prospect of a mass movement against Trump from below, in which millions of working people become politically mobilized and seek to take action to defend their jobs, living standards, and democratic rights.
