Today I paced my son Alex (10) and his buddy Sean (13) to their first Half Marathon!! 🏆 🏃‍♂️ 🏃‍♂️ 🏃‍♂️ @citytriruns Brooklyn Spring Half. Why do I feel less tired after the first half hour of running compared to the first few minutes? 🏃‍♀️💨😅?
As a passionate runner, I can relate to that feeling of fatigue fading away after the first half hour of running! It's quite intriguing, isn't it?
Well you should know that when we start running, our bodies undergo various adjustments.

At the beginning, our muscles are not fully warmed up, and our cardiovascular system is gradually adapting to the increased demand for oxygen. During this phase, it's normal to feel a bit tired and maybe even struggle a little.
However, our cardiovascular system becomes more efficient at delivering oxygen-rich blood to our working muscles. This enhanced blood flow helps to improve muscle function and delay the onset of fatigue.
I am sure you also heard about the release of endorphins. They are natural pain and stress reducers, which means they give us a boost of “positive energy” and reduce the perception of fatigue.
Because of this, our bodies enter a state known as "runner's high."

It's a phenomenon where the brain releases neurotransmitters like endocannabinoids and endorphins, creating a sense of euphoria and reducing the perception of effort and fatigue. It's like our body rewards us for our continuous effort and perseverance! ❤️
So, as you progress through your run, the combination of improved cardiovascular efficiency, endorphin release, and the possibility of experiencing the runner's high can contribute to feeling less tired and more energized.
