One of my engineering students who also studies biology has requested a deadline extension for the confetti cannon project.
Since we're working with plant-based confetti, anyway, she really wants to genetically engineer a plant that will "fire" its own seeds. Like a really aggressive dandelion. That is also a blaster.
Her idea is to create a biological confetti cannon that is environmentally friendly, colorful, and (after some time to regrow) self-reloading. It will just take quite a lot of time to grow, crossbreed, and study plants until it is perfected. Maybe even years.
I'm not gonna lie, that sounds cool as hell. These younglings truly are our future. I told her she can have all the time she needs as long as she keeps me updated with frequent lab notes.

GIRLS <3 <3 <3
My friend told me about a headcannon that Flora is interested in engineering and.,...,., I was hooked imediately.
So, I designed an outfit that is mildly inspired by steampunk, I'm not so sure about it, but I absolutely stand by the decision to give her those secret pants that look like a skirt. She would absolutely wear those, I take no constructive criticism.
Here's her being cool, I'm actually pretty proud of the anatomy seeing as I didn't use reference, but just in case don't look toooo closely
Anyway WOMEN IN STEM MY BELOVED <3

ALSO!!! EMMY ALTAVA!!!
She is so cool- and her hair is so fun to draw, the women in the pl series have amazing hair it's awesome
I love women who kick ass

#i like to think flora would pick up laytons bad habits of overworking herself#and hes upset about it but cant really say anything#also since flora lived in St. Mystere#i imagine she found a lot of cogs as a child and started a collection#And layton noticed them and is who actually introduced engineering to her#while Don Paolo eventually takes over as a mentor/teacher to her#professor layton#my art#digital art#illustration#flora reinhold#emmy altava

been having a run of just, absolutely shitty luck with technology (bike car computer phone screen phone charger…) so I was trying to find out if there’s a patron saint of technology I can do a devotional to before I give up and just start sacrificing to Hephaestus or something
And uh

bad technology luck continues: I now have Google AI Answers.
“Isidore was the bishop of Seville in 600 AD, a few years before the internet was invented.” Well you sure could say it that way!
#Anyway Isodore is the patron saint of the internet. Not technology as a whole.#St. Eligius seems more like who I’m looking for—his domain seems more the metalworking and smithing and mechanical engineering part#Which is what I’m having trouble with

On the 35th anniversary of The École Polytechnique massacre never forget the 14 women who were killed for being women in science
The École Polytechnique massacre (French: tuerie de l'École polytechnique), also known as the Montreal massacre, was an antifeminist mass shooting that occurred on December 6, 1989 at the École Polytechnique de Montréal in Montreal, Quebec. Fourteen women were murdered; another ten women and four men were injured.
Perpetrator Marc Lépine, armed with a legally obtained Ruger Mini-14 semi-automatic rifle and hunting knife, entered a mechanical engineering class at the École Polytechnique. He ordered the women to one side of the classroom, and instructed the men to leave. After claiming that he was "fighting feminism", he shot all nine women in the room, killing six. The shooter then moved through corridors, the cafeteria, and another classroom, specifically targeting women, for just under 20 minutes. He killed eight more women before ending his own life. In total, 14 women were killed, and 14 others were injured.
The massacre is now widely regarded as an anti-feminist attack and representative of wider societal violence against women; the anniversary of the massacre is commemorated as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. After the attack, Canadians debated various interpretations of the events, their significance, and the shooter's motives. Other interpretations emphasized the shooter's abuse as a child or suggested that the massacre was the isolated act of a madman, unrelated to larger social issues
The incident led to more stringent gun control laws in Canada, and increased action to end violence against women. It also resulted in changes in emergency services protocols to shootings, including immediate, active intervention by police. These changes were later credited with minimizing casualties during incidents in Montreal and elsewhere. The massacre remained the deadliest mass shooting in Canada until the 2020 Nova Scotia attacks over 30 years later.[4]

Timeline
Sometime after 4 p.m. on December 6, 1989, Marc Lépine arrived at the building housing the École Polytechnique, an engineering school affiliated with the Université de Montréal, armed with a Ruger Mini-14 rifle and a hunting knife.[5] He had purchased the gun less than a month earlier on November 21 in a Checkmate Sports store in Montreal. He had told the clerk that he was going to use it to hunt small game.[6] He had been in and around the École Polytechnique building at least seven times in the weeks leading up to December 6.[5]
The perpetrator first sat in the office of the registrar on the second floor for a while, where he was seen rummaging through a plastic bag. He did not speak to anyone, even when a staff member asked if she could help him.[2] He then left the office and was seen in other parts of the building before entering a second-floor mechanical engineering class of about sixty students at about 5:10 p.m.[7] After approaching the student giving a presentation, he asked everyone to stop everything and ordered the women and men to opposite sides of the classroom. No one moved at first, believing it to be a joke until he fired a shot into the ceiling.[8][9]
Lépine then separated the nine women from the approximately fifty men and ordered the men to leave.[10][9] He asked the women whether they knew why they were there; instead of replying, a student asked who he was. He answered that he was fighting feminism.[9][11] One of the students, Nathalie Provost, protested that they were women studying engineering, not feminists fighting against men or marching to prove that they were better. He responded by opening fire on the students from left to right, killing six—Hélène Colgan, Nathalie Croteau, Barbara Daigneault, Anne-Marie Lemay, Sonia Pelletier, and Annie St-Arneault—and wounding three others, including Provost.[9][11] Before leaving the room, he wrote the word "shit" twice on a student project.[10]
The gunman continued into the second-floor corridor and wounded three students before entering another room where he twice attempted to shoot a female student. When his weapon failed to fire, he entered the emergency staircase where he was seen reloading his gun. He returned to the room he had just left, but the students had locked the door; he failed to unlock it with three shots fired into the door. Moving along the corridor, he shot at others, wounding one, before moving towards the financial services office, where he shot and killed Maryse Laganière through the window of the door she had just locked.[12][11]
The perpetrator next went down to the first-floor cafeteria, in which about 100 people were gathered. He shot nursing student Barbara Maria Klucznick near the kitchens and wounded another student, and the crowd scattered. Entering an unlocked storage area at the end of the cafeteria, the gunman shot and killed Anne-Marie Edward and Geneviève Bergeron, who were hiding there. He told a male and female student to come out from under a table; they complied and were not shot.[13]: 30 [11]
The shooter then walked up an escalator to the third floor where he shot and wounded one female and two male students in the corridor. He entered another classroom and told the men to "get out", shooting and wounding Maryse Leclair, who was standing on the low platform at the front of the classroom, giving a presentation.[13]: 26–27 He fired on students in the front row and then killed Maud Haviernick and Michèle Richard who were trying to escape the room, while other students dived under their desks.[11][13]: 30–31 The killer moved towards some of the female students, wounding three of them and killing Annie Turcotte. He changed the magazine in his weapon and moved to the front of the class, shooting in all directions. At this point, the wounded Leclair asked for help; the gunman unsheathed his hunting knife and stabbed her three times, killing her. He took off his cap, wrapped his coat around his rifle, exclaimed, "Oh shit", and then killed himself with a shot to the head, 20 minutes after having begun his attack.[14][13]: 31–32 About 60 unfired cartridges remained in the boxes he carried with him.[14][13]: 26–27
After briefing reporters outside, Montreal Police director of public relations Pierre Leclair entered the building and found his daughter Maryse's stabbed body.[15][16]
The Quebec and Montreal governments declared three days of mourning.[15] A joint funeral for nine of the women was held at Notre-Dame Basilica on December 11, 1989, and was attended by Governor General Jeanne Sauvé, Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, Quebec premier Robert Bourassa, and Montreal mayor Jean Doré, along with thousands of other mourners.

-crawling out from under an abandoned house- B'Elanna Torres who has been denied the chance to feel feminine and small and protected and cherished (as everyone around her constantly portrays her as 'strong, angry, loner, explosive, mean, bitch, standoffish' which obviously heavily colors her perception of herself and makes her less likely to feel she can be vulnerable or she literally just can't be because she has to do her vitally important job and survive and help everyone else survive) to the point that even though she desires it she feels it's silly to even want let alone pursue or expect X Seven of Nine who has been denied the chance to explore her own relationship to gender because ever since she became aware of the concept it has been her tied (and monitored, chastised when deviating) strictly to the most traditional and sexualized definition of femininity imaginable - discovering that she's butch. Are you hearing me? B'Elanna Torres who fantasizes about being wanted gently by men, loved and yearned for by them [looking at her daydream of Chakotay, her classically romantic novels] and Seven of Nine who is not a man but is not a woman - who loves and yearns for her in a way she can't quite express through the narrow lense of heteronormative womanhood that she's been given. Seven of Nine who wants to kiss B'Elanna's hand and protect her and B'Elanna who's never once been protected by anyone, not even her parents. Her own father wouldn't protect her from bullying, saying she was too sensitive. That she should have been stronger. Tom saying he 'didn't think' she cared about romantic gestures because she's so strong and independent. [In this way she is expected, even as a child or in an intimate partnership, to take on everything stoically and to react to anything at all is an 'outsized reaction', out of character, shocking and dangerous - there is no time and no relationship no matter how intimate where she can be vulnerable and soft and wanting without it being 'too much'] Is this thing on???? Can you imagine Seven telling B'Elanna that she sees how scared she is, how fragile she is, and that she'll protect her with her life if necessary??? Can you imagine Seven, injured in some way [calculated yet foolhardy on her part], being tended to frantically but skillfully by B'Elanna who's scolding her with a furrowed brow and a voice so drenched with worry it dulls any harshness in her words which Seven isn't listening to anyway because she's too busy looking at her face and hearing the sound and cataloging how fast her heart is beating and thinking back to all those old movies Tom showed them all with scenes of women tending to their men and being rewarded for it with a kiss and an 'I'm sorry darling' and those holonovels Janeway goes through where a woman in a silk nightgown meets her monstrous lover in the rain or a darkened hall after finding out some terrible secret and nearly drops her candle upon seeing him but remains brave, holding onto her love. Everyone else might be afraid, but not her, she understands him ['we difficult patients have to stick together'] and Seven never saw herself as the tending type or the bleeding heart but B'Elanna is. B'Elanna loves machines, loves people so desperately it makes her miserable, and she never drops her candle. B'Elanna's beating, bleeding heart is pouring over her and Seven realizes she wants it for her own. She wants her for her own. Her love. Her woman. Seven - She's a scoundrel, a stately figure with a terrible secret written all over her face, a brute who doesn't deserve the tender touch he's being gifted and she raises her hands to cup B'Elanna's face and kisses her. And it's the only experience she would privately characterize as perfect. And something clicks very neatly into place.
#is she butch or is she just Klingon [non-white: heavily brown/black] and latina???#B'Elanna!!! Femme B'Elanna!!! Guys please <- stumbling out of the house still. falling down and crawling. Guys.#B/7#B'Elanna Torres#Seven of Nine#on a ship like Voyager isn't an engineer a certain type of homemaker?#Seven in her brutish way calling B'Elanna fragile and B'Elanna fighting against it - she isn't weak. And Seven saying that everyone is weak#compared to her. Seven's butch and brutish charm. Am I making sense?? Where am I??#star trek voyager#st voyager#B7#B'Elanna/Seven

Urgghhh… interests… COMBINE!!
A TF2 Star Trek AU my brother and I came up with. If you have any ideas or if you’re a Star Trek super fan and and of this conflicts with st lore I would love to know. Set around ds9 time because that’s the best one. Character stuff under the cut
Ship: The Fortress
Engineer: The “Captain”. Ex-borg who opted not to remove all of his machine parts. Deemed a liability by Starfleet and was discharged. Refused to part with the ship he was previously chief engineer on and now runs it on a skeleton mercenary crew.
Medic: The chief medical officer. Obsessed with manuals “old fashioned” and experimental medical techniques. Discharged from Starfleet for medical malpractice. Joined the Fortress so he could continue his work.
Heavy: The chief security officer. A Klingon who takes mercenary work to support his mother and sisters back home.
Spy: A Romulan defector. Stole a cloaking device that is now being used on the Fortress.
Scout: A half human half romulan ensign. Thinks he just had a Vulcan grampa on his dad’s side. Left Starfleet of his own accord and joined the Fortress for a sense of freedom and adventure. Navigational helmsman.
Soldier: Never actually a member of Starfleet. So where’d he get that old uniform and all those medals? And why’s he wearing an ancient Earth helmet? Works as a security officer on the Fortress because no one else is crazy enough to take him.
Demoman: Chief engineer. Discharged from Starfleet for drinking on the job. Has an eye implant but it’s barely functional. Will push the practically vintage engines to warp 11 and get that week long job done in a day.
Pyro: Nothing is know about them. Just seemed to show up on the ship one day. Wears a broken and burnt environmental suit. Chief communications officer so they can ignore every Starfleet command and because they stay on the bridge where an eye can be kept on them.
Sniper: A Bajoran who was sent away from Bajor during the Cardassian occupation. Secretly taken in by a Starfleet officer and his wife where he learned federation starship systems. Operates the phaser banks on the Fortress.
Pauling: A Vorta who was tasked with supplying the Dominion with more supplies, specifically materials for Ketracel-White. Hired the mercenaries to raid other ships and colonies.

i adore in fics when people find out about julian’s enhancements and then julian lets down his guard and people can see an actual a change, like suddenly there’s something unfamiliar about him? something much deeper and mature? not because everything about julian before the revelation has been a SHAM or anything, i just like the idea of all these intelligent people having totally underestimated julian, the young, naive doctor, when really julian’s been one step ahead of them the whole time, letting them see him a certain way. the concept of others finally getting to see they had the wrong idea, especially back when they sort of saw julian as somewhat less than, the whole time. it’s about that moment of oh. he’s been the smartest guy in the room the whole time. them suddenly not seeing naivety, but seeing power. that. i like that.
