Miko is smart
I think a missed aspect of Miko's character that no one acknowledges is that she's a smart person that doesn't like doing smart person things. Listen Miko can play guitar, is bilingual, and is an exchange student. She would have to be at least a little brainy to be able to do that. I feel like she's probably a music and language prodigy of sorts. She can learn these types of things very easily. She is also smart in general, just excels in those specific subjects the most. I feel like the only reason people see her as dumb is her impulsiveness (which is valid tbh) and her distaste for school. Last I checked we actually haven't seen her doing badly with her grades? She just gets in trouble a lot as far as we know. I'll look again but I haven't seen mentions of bad grades yet. Miko just in general hates school work (real) probably not because it's hard but because she finds it boring. Maybe it's her implied Adhd or something. Idk if this is a hot take or not but regardless I'm going to believe this until proven otherwise.
Slight unrelated rambling here; I just find the idea of a smart person not really interested in math or science very interesting! You don't really see that sort of thing in fiction or irl a lot. Stereotypical "Smart people" can be pretty boring to me sometimes because they're always the same and usually pretty stale. People forgot that arts and science are pretty overlapped and I'm just sick of people ignoring it. I'm so tempted to make a whole post on this topic.

Here’s the latest Stemae, featured in the video below.
Rhodopto (Forta/Chroma): Rhodoptoes are pretty fierce even when they are really young as they try to jab at others with their claws. While Rhodoptoes are more active in the night, they are attracted to light so they are often seen near the shore.
Chromato Long-Wave Form (Forta/Chroma): Before engaging in a fight, these Chromatoes can warm their claws up through vibrations to burn their target. Long-Wave Chromatoes have an incredible reach which gives them command over a large territory.
Chromato Medium-Wave Form (Forta/Chroma): Medium-Wave Chromatoes are the rarest form of Chromato to naturally occur in the wild. The claws of Medium-Wave Chromatoes are versatile as they can be used to spear their opponent or smash them.
Chromato Short-Wave Form (Forta/Chroma): Chromatoes are generally more active during the day time, but wild Chromatoes are often too aggressive to persuade. A Short-Wave Chromato's blow can break the armor of any creature in their habitat, making them a dangerous encounter.

STE(A)M Meeting
Engineer: What if we added Art to STEM, so it says STEAM? Like a STEAM ENGINE?
Biologist: but i like stems…
Physicist: Sorry, but STEAM’s got my vote. I approve of all 7(ish?) phases of water. I think.
Computer Scientist: I vote for STEAM too, #PC gaming master race
Set Theorist: I will also vote in favor of increasingly large collections of seemingly unrelated things.
Education Professor: That's all very... dumb. F-. But, I have a pretty good idea on how to use the A so I'll vote for it too!
Biologist: :(
Artist: wtf, why am I here? What kinda nerdy sausage party is this?
Education Professor: (on hands and knees) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE MAKE OUR CURRICULUMS LESS BORING I DON'T KNOW HOW TO STOP ALL MY STUDENTS FALLING ASLEEP IF THEY CAN'T BE CREATIVE PLEASE

Small Town AU (Pearl)
Pearl is a big freaking nerd and no one can tell me otherwise
She lives in town during the summer months to do science research in town. She lives about an hour away during the rest of the year closer to her university.
There’s very little light pollution in Starlight. She lives in a little trailer in the outskirts of town where she sets up her telescope for observations.
She has a research grant that pays for her supplies and some of the conferences she attends but she works at the diner in the morning shift for some pocket money
She is also such a social butterfly and needs to talk to people or she’ll drive herself crazy
She graduated undergrad early and is currently starting her graduate studies at 20
She was a homeschool kid growing up and didn’t really have friends her age until she moved to Starlight.
She thinks of Dinah like a big sister and will often sleep over with her, Belle, and Tassita at their apartment.
One time Pearl set up a meteor shower watch party a few weeks moving to Starlight and invited Belle, Tassita, and Dinah and told them to invite whoever else they wanted
She fully thought it was going to be maybe a friend or two, maybe 6 or 7 people at most
Almost the entire town ended up going, bringing picnic blankets and lawn chairs, setting up folding tables and bringing snacks and drinks pot luck style, making a bonfire.
Pearl was so excited, she was a little stressed, but glad that everyone was there to share something that she was so passionate about
She let some of the little kids look into the telescope she set up and gave them so many fun astronomy facts
As the night goes on it ends up just being the twenty-somethings crowd around the bonfire.
Rusty, unknowing to Pearl, has been working up the courage to try and talk to her all night and is over rehearsing everything he could possibly say to strike up a conversation
But it’s actually Pearl who starts talking to him. And for the rest of the night they’re just wrapped up in their talk. Not worrying about anyone else.

I think there are truly incredibly few functional analogues for shows to Rui, but the space that shows occupy is well and truly foundational to his being, to the point that I would well and truly call it his reason for living, so like any AU in which he doesn’t have shows or anything similar to redirect that wellspring within him, you can pretty easily justify a lot of things you otherwise can’t in canon or canon-adjacence. Fair amount of -cides, for instance. Doubling down on the mechanical engineering (or analogue like magic) can fill the void to an extent, but like honestly if he were doing anything important instead of whimsical he’d still be miserable lol
#you know. if you wanna erase the light in his eyes lol#you can’t make him happy as a STEM guy he’s a STEAM guy. the Arts carries#rambles

I know no one wants to hear this, but adding the A to make STEAM is actively hurting trying to introduce young girls to subjects previously gatekept from them
The entire point of STEM and specifically Women in STEM is to encourage kids to pursue nerdy school shit that they wouldn't otherwise. Go to the STEM club, kids! you'll build a tiny trebuchet, program a turtle in blujay, solder a flashlight yourselves, get help with your science fair poster! That's good shit, esp geared towards grade school girls when they're constantly told as they grow up that girls are just naturally worse at math, and computers are a boy thing, and all these fields are mostly men cuz that's just what men are good at and you'll probably be better in like, nursing or english or something more appropriate for your woman-ness.
The entire point of girl-centered STEM programs is to introduce them to the subjects young so learning them at a more advanced level later is not foreign, or discouraging, or just a boy thing cuz the societal pressure cut their interest at the root.
When you add the A for arts, practically no afterschool program is going to bother trying to teach kids (and girls) all that nerdy shit (INCLUDING fine arts, which is the POINT of the A) when they don't understand that shit themselves and could just start a STEAM program leaning heavily on the Arts and then adding a cute little "and crafts" to it. I see it in stores, too. A little paint-by-number style craft kit where you glue yarn in the shape of a rainbow was labeled "STEAM!" in bright pink. Sewing kits are labeled STEAM now.
Suddenly your "inclusive" for-girls mentorship program is shoehorning girls directly into the artsy-creative-handcrafts bullshit hole that Women in STEM was meant to take them out of in the first place.
Fine arts is so unbelievably important to teach to and foster in kids, but for fucks' sake, stop forcing girls into the shitty infantilizing version of it, especially with the movement that's supposed to do the opposite

Here’s the latest Stemae, featured in my previous video.
Stemotl (Chroma): While Stemotls are not native to this region, they have been popular in research worldwide for their regenerative abilities. Researchers predict there is a way to reverse Stemotl's morphing process; however the process is still being studied.
Neurotl (Chroma/Neura): The covers on Neurotl's body are smaller when the Neurotl is unwell, causing them to have slower movement. Neurotls can communicate with others through the electrical shocks they send out of their tail.
Myotl (Chroma/Forta): Fully relaxed Myotl arms can stretch out to be pretty long; however some parts are usually contracted. Myotls can understand the secret messages Neurotls communicate through the Neurotls' tails.
Dermotl (Chroma/Phasma): Dermotl's wings are grown from Dermotl's body and they have to be replenished as parts of the wing shed off over time. Dermotls sometimes rip-off their cloaks to protect younger Stemotls.
Osteotl (Chroma/Metalla): Osteotls can make a sturdy home for themselves by spitting out and forming a bone matrix which they can reabsorb if needed. Some reports claim seeing a Myotl throw an Osteotl at an enemy to deter them with Osteotl's spines.
Adipotl (Chroma/Toxa): The sticky covers on Adipotl allow them to stick to each other and various surfaces to block certain passageways. Adipotls can use their storage to generate heat in cold climates, welcoming Stemotls to huddle around them.

yes I know, I'm late, that is my bad... I was so depressed this morning. never fear though because I just turned myself into a vampire and it helped
I have a QotD! (question now)(or 2)
Are you studying STEM (or STEAM, i fw that), Humanities, or what? What do you enjoy about the structure of learning in your subject, and what are you jealous of in others?
personally, as a humanities student primarily (arch is too humanities to be considered STEM by STEM, and too STEM to be considered humanities by humanities), sometimes I get jealous of people who have to study for exams, like in the good old fashioned route memorisation with flashcards and stuff... sometimes my brain just needs a break and to ingrain what I know directly into my subconscious. I get burnt out from writing essay after essay after essay, especially when my discipline at my university is notoriously difficult to get HDs (7s or As) in with essays. Sometimes I just want to learn, absorb and retain rather than have to create, yk? probably only bc I'm burnt out rn tho
Day 16 /28

to do
edit and cut down section of essay on Newes (again)
add to section based on the new docs found? (I think I will so it's not just a source analysis)
sift through bibliography to find sources
run/walk
once again I have added more that needs to be footnoted, so get onto that
email prof
see people (I'm going insane again)
write paragraph on Fian
write paragraph on daemonologie
make sure my essay answers a fucking question for the love of god
CUT CUT CUT CUT CUT (it is time to start culling words because I have no intro/ conclusion/ Daemonologie paragraphs and my wc is like 4.5k)
Aim for:
write intro and conclusion
cite as much as I can
choose semester subjects or AT LEAST look at pre-reading for Tudors and Rome
bibliography hhhhhhhh
I am sitting at the library and I look like a vampire for accountability, the only thing that is ruining my Dark Academic (tm) look is my massive fuckin computer....
also I realised yesterday how much I HATE using computers to study, I function so much better on physical paper... rip to me I should never have started taking notes on paper at age 10

thinking about this convo I had with my best friend from high school where I mentioned my degree is STEM and she was surprised because she “didn’t think the environmental science stuff, like, counted” 😀
#forestry btw#I go to an engineering school and yes my major is decidedly easier#a technical school anyway#but it’s still stem#and it should be steam anyway#she studies psych anyway we’re like in the same boat#idk im sick of the American culture regarding stem and how non stem degrees#and even stem degrees that aren’t as prolific#aren’t seen as important#or valid things to study

guys hear me out would painis cupcake pay taxes? Because he’s not like mega insane like ass pancakes I think he’d pay his taxes in my professional opinion.
#I also had a conversation with my friend about if he had to wear a suit why would he#We discussed for a very long while(6 minutes) and the discussion was very enlightening#Slowly turning painis into a functional human in society…#Except you know he eats people that isn’t really stuff normal people do#this is a joke btw#I think he would pay his taxes but if the tax people are rude to him he wouldn’t#I think it really depends#Does he even have any taxes to pay? Because he doesn’t have a job I assume so he doesn’t have any money#But theoretically if he’s like working for another freak and he’s getting paid or something#Idk guys I might be going a little bit bonkers… he’s helping me get out of art block at least#Oh I hope all these tags don’t accidentally show up in another tag that would be bad I’ve seen that happen#I’ve already typed so much though#It’d be funny if there was painis angst because I wouldn’t be able to take it seriously because his name is penis basically#Why am I only saying painis I’m going to tag him anyway#Painis cupcake#there#alright anyways painis cupcake angst would be fucking hilarious imo#My professional opinion#Mmhmmm I’m a professional in being stupid#My friends will call me spedpool on hallowen#I took 2 yardsticks in stem and I pretended to be said guy in the red suit I don’t want to tag him because I don’t want someone to#Find this unhinged rant about painis cupcake that got way off track woah#Ok continuing on the painis rant#I can’t draw him with pencil for some reason he looks so weird#I can draw soldeir just fine with pencil probably even better than online but whenever I try to draw painis he looks like a pile of dog shi#A moist pile the kind that would make steam if it’s cold outside#I feel like it he tried painis cupcake would really be a great functional citizen#Oh wow I wrote a lot my bad

@ivogrieved {cont.}
He says nothing as the doctor steps inside the cafe - it's closed for the night, all lights off save for the refrigerators and the outside light; just enough light for them to see each other. Stone closes the door and locks it, running a hand through his short hair with a sigh at the doctor's request. It's such a tired sigh, heavy with emotions Stone rarely showed in Robotnik's presence.
"The machine's off for the night," he replied, voice kept carefully calm, though there was a hint of anger underlying in his tone. The last several weeks, months, he'd come to accept his boss' apparent death, living with grief for what and who he'd lost. To have the other man standing in the shop with him now would've once been something to celebrate, but Stone was -
- not sure what to feel, if he's honest.
"Do you think we can just pick up where we left off?" he asked. "You said your goodbyes, you were gone. You fired me, Ivo."
He's never used the doctor's given name, always respectfully using his title before, putting Dr. Robotnik above all others in how he spoke to others. First names were for a level of closeness even the doctor's final words to him hadn't been enough to reach.
"I didn't think you'd be back this time."
