xf rewatch: jersey devil & shadows
Two early-series stinkers (affectionate) that, at least in the case of Jersey Devil, have achieved cult status or at least meme status for generally being enjoyable as hell. I imagine Fox executives side-eyeing a little, like, what is this, bring back those Squeeze guys or that Chris Carter who wrote the first couple… Really? Uh oh.
I have a deep and abiding love for Shadows partly because I once wrote a recap of it for a fan project, and being me I watched it like 85 times while taking copious notes and turned in a probably 10,000-word analysis, so I know it very well. I DO feel my love for it is justified, partly in its campiness and general silliness (GHOST BOSS. BLOOD BATHTUB. MURDER… AT THE ATM [MACHINE]) but also because Mulder and Scully are great in it, really Detectiving the hell out of the case, interviewing a hilariously mannered and conveniently expositional cemetery groundskeeper, doing a face-to-face with the medical examiner (Howard Graves… Is Very Dead) (she is my favorite, I say this every time, RIP Lorena Gale), and really using their combined powers of Believing and Skeptical in convincing Lauren to cooperate. Yes, there are TWO entire scenes where Scully misses the paranormal thing by seconds; yes, Mr. Dorlund is transparently evil to a ridiculous degree; yes, Lauren wears A LOT of Laura Ashley-ish florals (and this is the episode of Scully's glorious Halloween outfit of black suit, orange blouse, white tights; ah I love it). But, look, at the end, the case is over, and Mulder is like, well, case is over. Should we maybe go see the Liberty Bell? How often do we get to see scenes like that?? For that bit alone I love it, and that's without the Mulder slo-mo (in all of our hearts) jacket swing, Scully's Poltergeist impression and general horror-movie knowledge at the ready, Mulder with his feet on the chair, once again Dr. Ellen Bledsoe being the greatest, Mr. Dorlund getting his uh, wrist squeezed very threateningly with his uh, gold bracelet, by a ghost, Mulder's UNNECESSARILY flirty move of swinging his arm around Scully and breathing on his glasses to show her he snagged a fingerprint… ah it's great. Forget those Squeeze guys, hire these dudes! …They what? OUTSTANDING news.
One more thing I find amusing about Shadows is, I recently was reminded of Glen's ancedote that it came out of a note they got that Mulder and Scully needed to help people. Heheh. "This bitch needs help, get in there, you jerks!" I yelled at Mulder and Scully in multiple scenes this time through. I'd say Ghost of Howard Graves ultimately did more helping in the end, with his supernatural powers, but they tried. And they managed to stop saying vaguely flirtatious dialogue while staring intensely into each other's eyes long enough to at least give her a little encouragement I guess.
I skipped right over Jersey Devil, which is also a silly episode but, honestly, I think comes off better of the two of them. On the other hand, would I say that without the legendary appearance of the Bigfoot Titties drawing? Hard to say. I should add that Mulder and Scully are CRIMINALLY adorable in these episodes, still in their rosy-cheeked (or over-blushed), round-faced big-eyed high-voiced toddler days, and it is difficult to imagine that THE UNIVERSE COULD CONTAIN anything cuter than the last scene (Who was that on the phone? A guy. Same guy as the other night? Same guy. What are you doing, Scully? Going with you to the Smithsonian.) Despite them referencing (in BOTH these episodes) the having or not having of a life (side note, I can't express how common the phrase "get a life" or "he has no life" were back then; that was like cool slang man), vestiges of said life-having remain, with Scully having girl talk with Ellen (I remain obsessed with that exchange: "I thought you said he was cute"/"He's a jerk. …He's not a jerk. He's obsessed with his work"), The Date, Scully's old professor (wonder if she fucked that one. ha), and even more subtle things like Mulder saying "Thanks, Fran" after signing out a car. (Other people work at the FBI! And Mulder and Scully know their names!) (I also found endearing the extremely quick shot of the comics that Fran has taped to her desk. Very nice little set detail.) It all feels so ordinary and workplacey, which I am finding really enjoyable; it's like, a normal government office where people work, and Mulder and Scully also work there, and it just enhances it (enhance!!) when they're working a case and suddenly like a ghost causes a car accident. Or when a hot naked lady (I was impressed with how clear her ass was in the iTunes version of this; I suppose they didn't really bother to blur it back in the standard-definition days and I guess now we are all enlightened in the seeing of asses on TV) attacks Mulder in a dramatically lit warehouse. (Hey baby, come up to Vancouver, you can be on my show! Is something I suspect DD said a lot in the early to mid 90s.)
I'm really not trying at all with this post, sorry. I will wrap up with the revelation that, at least according to the procedural forensic efforts of my friend and me, Bill Dow who plays Chuck Burks plays NOT ONE, BUT TWO DADS in this episode — the guy in the 40s, and the guy at the end hiking with his kid. (Same kid too, I think.) Yes? No? Why isn't Chuck Burks on the convention circuit? Is my question.
Anyway, The X-Files rules. Next up, Ghost in the Machine, which I haven't seen in ages so that should be fun. Sorry these posts are so incredibly lame, lmao. Send tweet

there’s so much beauyasha to mention in 126 and it cannot all possibly be mentioned (bless whoever made this compilation video) but here are some highlights for ME
yasha going out of her way to buy that anti-scrying cream to try and protect them from being scried on was just so sweet. i mean maybe she got swindled who can say but all she wanted was true, legitimate privacy with beau and that’s precious of her. yasha almost never buys vanity items so i love that she wanted to do this, like she REALLY wanted that (1,000 gold!)
veth/beau. gosh what a scene. love sam always, ik that’s controversial because some people feel like he trolls too much & has been undercutting the beauyasha of it all but no honestly love his vibes he always brings humor and heart to his scenes and he always makes me laugh and this one with beau was so sweet & genuine & helpful, veth bought beau a flower to give to yasha that’s so wholesome. and beau wanting to wear a bowtie omg…
“i’m going into this with no expectations and on yasha’s terms and her timeline” MS. MARISHA RAY said we drink our ‘respect our traumatized potential romantic partner’s boundaries’ juice in this house
“i could be likable. *deep breath* yeah. i could” oh beau you sweet sweet bebe
love how much the m9 want this date to happen. caleb orchestrating everything, veth’s pep talk with beau, everything jester and fjord have said to them in the past episodes (esp jester encouraging them to be open about their feelings the whole poem scene my god), then of course caleb and cad shoving them into the tower together like ‘no y’all are going on this date please have a moment of happiness’ -- because like… they wouldn’t, you know? they both probably feel like it’s selfish to take that time if something else is more pressing. if they needed to go back to cad’s home or if they needed to use up those higher level spells they would have let it happen and never objected. like it’s sad because of course both of them deserve love and deserve to take even just one evening to not be scared for their lives, but mostly just warms my heart because of their love for the group. they’ll de-prioritize themselves if they have to (the beauyasha date getting postponed was basically its own meme at this point) or if it’s necessary and they’ll never complain about it, because that’s just the kind of gals they are. so so so so so glad that the mighty nein are like ‘no stop it go and do this you useless lesbians’ i love them for that
laura bailey fully ducking under her table when yasha doesn’t know that beau wants to hold her hand was me in that moment too
liam’s panting dachshund faces — enough said. everything about the doggies made me so happy, love that beau/marisha thought of that because ashley/yasha literally must scritch every dog she sees
i love ashley’s face as she gets drawn deeper and deeper into beau’s wooing of yasha it is just so wholesome the whole date and all the work put into it clearly just means so much to her and she deserves it!! yasha deserves it (and so does ashley!) and so does beau and bless marisha and liam for making it happen i’m so happy for them
beau: “when i was in kamordah, that fear of losing this family… i almost sabotaged it. just so that i wouldn’t have to deal with the angst and the anguish of wondering if and when and how this family will fall apart. like ripping off a band-aid that was never there. i guess over a wound that was never there. just tried to rip it off for the pain, and nothing else.” yasha, whispering: “yeah. that’s relatable.” (followed by: *laura aggressively mouthing ‘kiss!!!’*)
yasha: “i’m so scared to lose everyone. i don’t want to lose anyone, because i don’t know if i could survive that again.”
“i fell in love with you in kamordah” *swoon*
yasha: “you blow me away” beau, soft as a breath: “feeling’s mutual”
beau: “that’s why you’re my favorite” *intense blushing* yasha: “who me?”
fucking WING FLYING KISS PLEASE MS. JOHNSON i am only human
‘claim the rest of the night with me?’ is such a specific sweet way of phrasing that... marisha’s mind…
beau: “hey.” yasha, whispering back: “hey.” beau: “i love you too” and then ashley’s FACE god damn it
stained glass window hand holding is extremely gay caleb thank you for making it happen
another thing that strikes me is how generous matt was this whole episode. i mean he always is really, he’s always rooting for them, but this time he really was just like “you’re leading the charge and i’m just here for the ride” like breaking all the rules of combat and everything he really said “i’m gonna give the gays everything they want” and i love him for it

StackedNatural Day 166: 1x21, 7x20, 11x19, 12x19
StackedNatural Masterpost: [x]
April 27, 2022
1x21: Salvation
Written by: Sera Gamble & Raelle Tucker
Directed by: Robert Singer
Original air date: April 27, 2006
Plot Synopsis:
Meg turns to killing John's friends in order to get the Colt. Sam and Dean stakeout the Demon's next target; a family with a six month old baby showing signs of special abilities. John heads off alone to confront Meg.
Features:
A hunter priest, Sam’s guilt complex, John learning about Sam’s visions, a call from Meg, lots of throat-slitting, the demons calling John’s bluff, Sam missing his shot on the yellow-eyed demon.
My Thoughts:
Stacked wobbles back and forth between being a chore and being super fun, but we’re in finale territory now babey, and that means episodes are on a quality upswing.
I love Meg 1.0, she really kills is with the line between flirtatious and threatening, she steals every scene she’s in. The opening scene and the meeting with John in particular are awesome.
One thing I really miss about the first few seasons are Sam’s visions - they’re such a great plot point, they really set him up as fundamentally different from other people and it adds a lot of tension between him and Dean. Also, I love his sweet puppy dog eyes any time he has a vision and gets concerned about the person he sees in danger.
Do NOT come for me on this but John Winchester is a badass in this episode. The holy water move is great. It’s very obvious that he loves his kids, but like I’ve mentioned in other posts, that doesn’t necessarily make him a good father. He wants Dean to have a home, but he isn’t capable of providing one for him. He wants Sam to go to college, but he kicked him out and cut contact when he did.
Dean saying that this revenge quest isn’t worth dying for is the fundamental difference between him and his family. I like following Moriah with this episode - because when the chips were down, he did throw away a chance at revenge that would kill himself and Jack.
Notable Lines:
“The other day I met this man. A nice guy, you know? We had a really good chat, sort of like this....then I slit his throat and ripped his heart out through his chest. Does that make me a bad person?”
“Call you? Are you kidding me? Dad, I called you from Lawrence, all right? Sam called you when I was dying. I mean, getting you on the phone? I got a better chance of winning the lottery.”
“I want to stop losing people we love. I want you to go to school, I want Dean to have a home. I want....I want Mary alive. It's just....I just want this to be over.”
“That's funny, John. We're going to strip the skin from your bones, but that was funny.”
“If hunting this demon means getting yourself killed then I hope we never find the damn thing.”

7x20: The Girl With the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo
Written by: Robbie Thompson
Directed by: John MacCarthy
Original air date: April 27, 2012
Plot Synopsis:
Sam and Dean discover that Frank's hard drive, containing everything on the leviathans, is now in Dick's company building. To retrieve it, they ask for help from one of the employees, a young computer hacker.
Features:
Another visit from Bobby, a slaughterhouse for human cattle, Charlie walking on sunshine, Sucrocorp, nerds bonding, Bobby sneaking into Richard Roman Enterprises, Charlie’s Leia D&D tattoo, Dean flirting Charlie’s way out of trouble, Sam and Dean diving through glass, a fight between a ghost and a leviathan, a successful heist.
My Thoughts:
This is hands down the best Charlie episode. I still think she’s fun in later episodes, but she’s in a perfect niche in this episode that they try to spread from rather than digging deeper into what makes her extremely skilled. In this one she’s scared but still brave, extremely smart and tenacious, and thinks well on her feet. I love a hacker with a heart of gold.
The directing on this episode is also extremely fun, and it fits well with the heist style. They’ve tried to do a heist episode since, with The Scorpion and the Frog, but it fell flat. Of course we have the ICONIC scene of Dean flirting with the security guard via Charlie. The fact that she specifically says she can’t flirt with him because she isn’t into men and then Dean very competently flirts with him… I can’t believe they maintained that he was heterosexual for a full 8 years after that.
Notable Lines:
“If you can't score at a reproductive rights function, then you simply cannot score.”
“15 minutes ain't a lot of time.” “She said if it took longer to hack his desktop, then she deserved to be eaten.”
“He's not my type.” “You're gonna have to play through that.” “As in he's not a girl.” “Oh, oh. Pretend he has boobs.”
“She’s kinda like the little sister I never wanted.”

11x19: The Chitters
Written by: Nancy Won
Directed by: Eduardo Sánchez
Original air date: April 27, 2016
Plot Synopsis:
Sam and Dean are visiting a small town in Colorado where people are mysteriously disappearing every 27 years. While they are investigating, the boys encounter a pair of hunters seeking revenge on the monster causing the disappearances.
Features:
A naked green-eyed monster, a generational curse, the hottest sheriff in the series, parasitic cicada spirits, Jesse and Cesar, philosophical debates over revenge, some light body horror, beheading with a shovel, hunters making it to the finish line.
My Thoughts:
This episode had everything I like in a good monster of the week episode: a cool new monster, interesting and empathetic secondary characters, moments with big Sibling Energy, and a thematic link to the overarching or upcoming plot. Plus, gay hunters! The only thing that actually disappointed me is we didn’t even get to see Jesse and Cesar kiss.
I do think that the transitionary stage of the monster, when they just stand in the woods and shake, is scarier than the full transformation stage where they jump you in an alley. I wish the alley scene had been filmed at night to preserve a little of the mystery, but whatever.
The first scene with the cold open helps drive home that Dean’s motivating factor this season really is Cas and not Amara. Despite his “connection” with her, he’s staying up all night trying to figure out how to kill her so he can get Cas back.
I really like Jesse and Cesar - so often when other hunters are introduced to the boys the moral of the episode is that they can’t be trusted - think of Gordon and Lee. I was so scared that one or both of them was going to be killed, but they actually got their happy ending. Plus if they settled down in New Mexico and spend most of their hunting years in that area then I can very neatly fit them in DTA as part of Alpha, so love that for me.
There was a lot of emotional intelligence in the writing of this episode. Not just Jesse’s grief, but the old sheriff's as well, not to mention Dean and Cesar’s conversation about revenge and closure, which reminds us of Mary and neatly seeds her return at the end of the season. Dean got his revenge, and it didn’t fix him, and soon he’ll get Mary back, and that won’t fix him either. And then Dean and Sam make the decision not to ask them to help when they would have, because they deserve to retire. (It does make me wanna riot about Dean not getting to retire with his partner, but that’s not this episode’s fault.)
Notable Lines:
“Dude, I was eighteen.” “Sinner.” “It was college. It was probably oregano anyways.”
“when someone loses someone when they’re young. It never heals over.” “No, it doesn’t.”
“And the insane thing is, how many hunters have you seen over the years get their revenge? [...] And they are never fixed, are they?”
Laura’s (completely subjective) Episode Rating: 9.2
IMdB Rating: 7.7
12x19: The Future
Written by: Robert Berens & Meredith Glynn
Directed by: Amanda Tapping
Original air date: April 27, 2017
Plot Synopsis:
Sam comes up with a way to stop Lucifer's baby, but Castiel has something else in mind for Kelly. Dean is furious when he finds out someone stole the Colt.
Features:
A big suicide TW, Cas finally returning to the bunker, Thee Mixtape, fetus Jack saving Kelly’s life, Dagon’s parenting plan, Cas stealing the Colt and then Kelly, cas googling how to fix his truck, Cas feeling Jack kick, Kelly stealing the Impala, Dagon destroying the Colt, Cas switching to Jack’s team.
My Thoughts:
I need to repent my sins, because the last time I watched this @weedsinavacantlot was dragging me back into the show kicking and screaming and I was in full irony mode. I can’t believe I missed how much this episode absolutely fucking rules.
First of all, Amanda Tapping as a director my beloved. There are a lot of great shots - obviously the entire mix tape scene, the broken arm healing, Cas feeling Jack kick - but one I didn’t remember was Kelly looking at herself in the cracked mirror before attempting suicide, and the cracks cutting her face out of the image so that all the remains of her reflection is her stomach. Gorgeous symbolism.
And the mixtape scene…. Boy oh boy. There are so many reasons to call that romantic, but suffice to say that Ledd Zepplin was what Mary and John first bonded over, which we learned about at the beginning of this very season. And then Cas steals the Colt not to hurt Dean, but to prevent him from getting innocent blood on his hands, to prevent his guilt, and to give him a win. AND we get the intimately framed shot of Dean shoving cas against a wall this episode, thank you Amanda.
When Cas and Kelly were talking after stealing the Impala and she said that he would have faith, I got shivers remembering 1x12 Faith.
This episode loses 0.1 points for cutting the visions that Jack shows Cas and thus not showing us post-orgasmic Dean thanking Cas.
Notable Lines:
“Dean, I just keep failing. Again and again. [...] And I just wanted I needed to come back here with a win for you. For myself.”
“Your child could bring the universe to its knees.” “Or lift it to its feet.”
“His power, his soul surged through me, and it was good. Pure. I feel- I know he is good.”
“He chose you, Castiel. [...] You asked me who would protect him, guide him when I'm gone. I know now. It's you.”
“I wish I had your faith.” “You will.”
Laura’s (completely subjective) Episode Rating: 9.9
IMdB Rating: 8.2
In Conclusion: EXTREMELY STRONG STACK TODAY, Y’ALL. I get stressed about 4-ep days because I have to work and commute and take care of my dog but this one was a straight up pleasure.

@dollsome-does-tumblr does this and opened it up to anyone and I am feeling chatty today SO!
Because I co-write a lot with my lovely wife, I might answer some questions including those co-written stories, or I might not, depends on how I feel when I get there.
name:
Megan but I go by Lentils most places on the internet, Shadowcrawler over on AO3
fandoms:
at the moment: MCU, especially Agents of SHIELD and Daredevil; Terminator: Dark Fate; Halt and Catch Fire. Oh and I wrote Dollhouse fanfics a thousand years ago. Sometimes I will watch a movie/show and think “those two girls should be gay” and bang out 2k of fic about it and then never write for that fandom again. (I THOUGHT this was going to be HACF but as it turns out, no, it’s not done with me yet.)
where you post:
AO3, at Shadowcrawler. I also have a tumblr @lentils-writes where theoretically I post links to fics/advertise them in the tags, because I used to be real precious about not putting porn on this blog, but fuck it.
most popular multi-chapter fic:
Co-written, it’s definitely mallverse, which is I think the reason most writers definitely hate us because it’s very long and there are a lot of tags lmao. The problem is that every tagged character HAS shown up in a significant fashion at some point so we can’t just...untag them! It doesn’t update weekly anymore because we’re exhausted by life lmao so at least there’s that???
As for a multi-chapter fic that was just me, I don’t tend to do that so much, so actually it’s say you will, my 3-chapter Endgame fix-it where Clint dies instead of Natasha and Natasha and Laura have a past. It actually has over 1000 hits which is very exciting! I feel like it’s...niche in a way that is frustrating but understandable lol. I put a lot of my heart into it and some people really liked it, so that’s gratifying.
favorite story you’ve written so far:
Co-written, I think our SHIELD Dollhouse AU is very underrated for the amount of work we put into it. Author bias evident here because I love Dollhouse warts and all, and it’s a lot of fun translating episode plots as well as the general trajectory of the show into stuff that will work with SHIELD characters. We don’t just rewrite episodes, we really try and rework them as needed. Also it features both Skimmons and my beloved rarepair Bobbi/Kara, though of course they won’t get together until later.
Of my own stuff, I’m still really really proud of the AU where Kara Palamas didn’t die. I think that was a pretty severe misstep of the show and I think I did a good job of fixing it. (I haven’t forgotten Kara, promise!)
fic you were nervous to post:
lolololol I wrote some uh. Terminator pornography last year and. They are very porny! I had co-written a bunch of smut obviously, but that was the first time I’d posted like, PWP all by myself on purpose??? and that was TERRIFYING. Also I was very nervous to post the Engame fix-it because that was my own personal goodbye/tribute to Natasha.
how you choose your titles:
They are always either song lyrics or jokes (such as Three Lawyers and a Baby, my Daredevil Accidental Baby Acquisition fic). My WIP docs are always titled either obvious shit like “RoseJannah horse girls” or memes like “what if we belonged to a fire cult and we fucked haha just kidding unless...?” or “Morgan has two mommies.”
do you outline?:
B and I typically outline for the co-written fics, although it’s more often chapter-by-chapter outlines since that’s how we write them. On occasion we’ve fully planned multi-chapter stuff out in advance but that’s less common. Oh and the one-shots are nearly always outlined as well, just to keep ourselves organized.
When I have written planned multi-chapter fics in the past I have used outlines - particularly for the Kara one and I had to do that for the SHIELD Kill Bill AU because I was trying to follow the format of the movie. For things that are allegedly supposed to be one-shots I almost never outline, which turns out to be a terrible idea when they inevitably balloon beyond my control and become 45k like say you will. That one, I wrote out a list of scenes I thought needed to be in it and then I wrote about 75% of those scenes and then I wrote a bunch more scenes I hadn’t planned for. Don’t be like me, kids!
complete fics:
According to AO3, 89 as of right now. Uh, you do not want me to list all of them, here’s a link, I guess!
in progress:
I don’t understand what the difference is between this question and the WIP questions lmao help????
posted WIPs that I have active plans to continue at this time:
Cowritten: mallverse as I said, and its femslash smut oneshots spinoff and character flashbacks spinoff and older characters/teachers spinoff (these get updated, uh, irregularly), the first half of a Piper/Snowflake SHIELD s7 fic that we are planning on finishing the second half of soonish, SHIELD Dollhouse AU, SHIELD Teen Beach AU, SHIELD Buffy AU. You may notice a pattern!
By myself, I have: Have Your Elf a Merry Little Christmas, a Terminator Hallmark Christmas fic that I ambitiously posted the first chapter of in 2019 and then lost steam immediately (I am going to go back to it sooner or later bc I had some cute ideas for it); the SHIELD Fate of the Furious AU that has one chapter to go and which I do intend on finishing eventually; Three Lawyers and a Little Lady, the Daredevil Accidentally Baby Acquisition AU that is literally just cute kidfic and poly avocados and which I have a bunch of ideas for and just need to buckle down and finish some.
posted WIPs that I have given up on:
Lol so there’s a Dollhouse Caroline/Bennett Doctor Who AU that I wrote purely as idfic and which nobody ever cared about except me, and I think that ship has sailed! RIP darlings. I also had an ongoing Skimmons series waaaay back when where I posted oneshots that were like missing scenes or gay readings for each s1 episode, and I just feel like it would be inauthentic to even try and finish it at this point. (It does include the first ever Skimmons fic to be posted on AO3! Really truly, there’s one fic that shows up as older but it’s an ongoing fic and was updated with the tag way after I posted mine.)
exchange fics due soon/unrevealed:
I haven’t done an exchange since like 2015 lololol I am so bad at them. I am currently working on finishing up my MCU Femslash bingo card, very late, and I do have plans for almost all of the remaining squares!
WIPs that live in my fanfic folder and are incomplete and who knows when they’ll be finished:
“RoseJannah horse girls,” which has been put on hold temporarily but is literally just Rose and Jannah being gay while riding orbaks
half of a Daisy/Gwen fic from Marvel Rising because I know they’re not making any more of those but I stg those two were really gay
multiple fics about Elise Nelson-Page including: avocados Halloween with smol Elise, Aunt Elektra very reluctantly taking smol Elise shopping until she realizes smol Elise also likes weapons (she buys her a fake katana), Uncle Frank is a pushover and spoils the shit out of Elise, and baby Elise has a high fever and everyone freaks out but then she gets better and smile at them for the first time (inspired by baby me lol).
coming soon/not yet started:
“Morgan has two mommies,” yet another Endgame fix-it where Maya Hansen did not die in Iron Man 3 and she resurfaces and she and Pepper kiss and eventually she adopts Morgan
Claire and Colleen go on a nice date to get coffee/tea where Danny doesn’t interrupt them goddammit
Bobbi/Kara Warehouse 13 AU which is sort of like “For the Team” but gayer ft. grappling hook
X-Men: Evolution Tabby/Amara fluff
Cameron/Donna character study disguised as smut
Grace proposes to Dani with a ring made out of the metal from her power source and Carl officiates the wedding
Dani gets horny watching Grace eat a peach and jerks off and Grace ends up hearing her and then they fuck (I have been calling this “the peach fic” in my head but I gotta stop being delicate about it lmfao it is just porn)
B and I have plans to do a Nico/Karolina Jasper in Deadland AU but we keep forgetting
I MUST WRITE FOGGY AND KAREN SADLY FUCKING IN A CHURCH WHILE THEY MOURN MATT THIS YEAR I STG
do you accept prompts:
uhhhhhh I have on occasion written a prompt for someone before but it’s pretty rare and I have enough trouble writing the shit I come up with in my own head lol. but never say never?
upcoming story you are most excited to write:
I’ve got a bit of the Bobbi/Kara Warehouse fic written and it’s nice to go back to that world. Also I’m weirdly excited about the Cam/Donna smutty character study I mentioned above, I have a lot of what I think are good ideas for it and it’ll be fun.
tagging @unwind-myself @swiftzeldas @swashbucklery @loved-the-stars-too-fondly and, if you want to, you!

Note
so, you're posts about critical role and you're ship have got me quite interested. do you have any tips on watching it for someone who knows next to nothing about it?
Hey! So I knew next to nothing about D&D when I started watching Campaign One, but I found that most of the rules are easy to infer as you watch them play and any other stuff you don’t understand is one quick google search away. Mostly, it’s pretty simple.
I suggest you start with Campaign 2, since it’s still on-going and it will let you participate more actively in the current fandom.
You can find all the episodes on Youtube. Here’s a link to a playlist with all of them so far:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byva0hOj8CU&list=PL1tiwbzkOjQxD0jjAE7PsWoaCrs0EkBH2
New episodes air on Thursdays on the Critical Role Twitch channel and are uploaded to Youtube on Mondays.
Don’t be too intimidated by the ep count or length. You can go at your own pace and, in my experience, the stories are so compelling that the episodes end up feeling short!
You can also find all of the episodes as Podcasts, so that might be simpler if you wanna listen as you drive or work or do other stuff.
Other things you might like to know about it before you start:
The show started as a homegame between the cast, who are friends irl, and halfway through their first game they were invited to livestream it. From then, it took off at a pace that still amazes the cast. Most of them are Voice Actors or Voice Acting Directors or writers, which makes them amazing storytellers.
Their first campaign is also on YT. It’s 115 episodes long and a lot of fun! I’m almost entirely caught up with it and also really recommend it, but maybe focus on one campaign at a time for starters.
The cast, btw, are all amazing and loving people. A quick basic guide:
Matt Mercer: the dungeon master, a soft loving soul, and an incredible storyteller. He loves his friends a lot and always tries to make their game/story in a way that will make them have fun and be happy even if people online might complain that it isn’t how they would’ve done it.
Marisha Ray: his wife, a total badass, CR’s creative director. She used to get a lot of hate for her character in C1 from some terrible people online but she never let that stop her from playing her in a way that felt true to herself, she’s also a very loud advocate for stopping online harassment.
Laura Bailey: she’s another badass, literal angel with a dirty mind, she’s married to Travis and they are adorable. Her first campaign character was Liam’s twins and they have a very sibling-like relationship despite not being related irl. Legend has it, the first time they all played together, Laura was the first one to go in full on acting and making voices and stuff and it pushed the whole cast to really immerse into the experience.
Travis Willingham: a wonderful soft jock with the heart of a nerd and strong heart-eyes for his wife. He’s the opposite to toxic masculinity. Also, he used to play a dumb barbarian in the first campaign so this time around he’s trying something entirely new for him and it’s delightful to watch.
Taliesin Jaffe: the closest thing you will find in real life to a fey creature, goth dad, his air is full of magic and his heart full of love and good advice. He’s really an amazing person all around. Also, probably, immortal. Used to play the smug tortured man in the first campaign, his old character also invented guns so you’ll see the cast side-eyeing him whenever they encounter fire weapons during the second campaign.
Liam O'Brien: this man is such a wonderful actor that loves breaking all of our hearts with his storytelling, he really loves tragedy but is also kind of a trickster himself? He is “twinnies” with Laura and bffs with Sam, they and the fandom constantly joke about being married.
Sam Riegel: a chaotic trickster god. Really though, this man is a comedic genius who lives to make people around him laugh and will rip your heart out when you least expect it. People like to joke about Bards being the worst class but his C1 bard was the stuff of legend. He’s an amazing player and actor. His current character is a rogue, like Liam’s C1 character, which is why you’ll see Liam gushing with excitement about Sam rolling stealth checks.
Ashley Johnson: Yet another badass lady. You might have seen her in that old movie What Women Want or more recently in Blindspot. She has the face of an angel but is a real undercover agent for chaos. She comes and goes because her show is shot in NY but you can tell how much brightness she brings to the table when she’s home. Her old character and Travis’s were bffs and this time she’s playing a Barbarian, so you’ll see Travis going wild whenever he gets to see her fight.
Brian Foster: He interviews the cast every Tuesday about the latest show, he’s incredibly funny and charming. Also, he and Ashley are engaged! People joke that he smells like cabbage (idk why?) but he’s amazing all around and part of the family. He doesn’t play in the campaign but has appeared in a few of the one-shots.
Dani Carr: An angel that works with the team, gushes over ships and banters with Brian during Talks Machina. She’s wonderful and sweet! Also she runs a preshow recap of last week’s episode to refresh everyone on the important stuff or fill in anyone who might’ve missed it.
The characters, well, I could speak forever about them but the real joy is getting to know them yourself. Here’s a quick line-up of them, though:
Tumblr media
I hope you have fun watching! This is all I could think about for now but let me know if there’s anything else you’d like to know about!

American Gods - ‘The Greatest Story Ever Told’ Review
Tumblr media
"Peace is a beautiful, but sh*tty idea."
A series whose intrinsic premise revolves around new gods forming around things that Americans actually worship finally gets around to the most obvious example. Hello there, Money.
Also, Mr. Nancy brings all the real.
Let's just get this out of the way up front, because otherwise the rest of the review is just going to be me marking time until I can bring it up.
Every single word of Mr. Nancy's monologue is amazingly written, outstandingly performed, and should be played on repeat in every single social studies and civics class in the United States until the country as a whole finally decides to do something about fixing things. I can't imagine that it won't be available to view on its own on YouTube within the next 24-48 hours, and when it does you should absolutely go watch it. Over the course of a few uninterrupted minutes, Orlando Jones lays out slavery, human trafficking, the alt-right, systemic violence and institutionalized failure, the school to prison pipeline, knee taking and the NFL, and more. It's angry, and it's powerful, and I expect high school speech competition judges will get tired of hearing it in a few years.
I've been a little focused this season on noting the things from season one that we lost with the transitions behind the scenes, but I've neglected to mention one thing that the new season has really improved. That's the interactions between the Gods themselves. In the first season, that interaction was almost exclusively limited to Wednesday and whichever old god he happened to be making his sales pitch to that week. We saw Czernobog and the three sisters in their home life together, but they were already from the same belief system and closely intertwined. This season we're starting to see how the other gods relate to one another just on a day to day basis, and it's really been great.
Which is how we get to Mr. Nancy's speech, and its context gives it its real edge. Mr. Nancy, Bilquis, and Mr. Ibis have gathered at the Ibis and Jaquel funeral parlor, and have a good, solid talk about race. This is in itself amazing, as television has a pronounced tendency to avoid a real and messy talk about race. We have three African gods, all played by actors of color, two of which seem to have made the choice to let things in America continue as they are, only to have the third one essentially sit them down and say, 'Here is what is happening, what has always been happening, to the descendants of your worshipers. How can you possibly be all right with this? How can you look the other way? How can you let this happen?' That's just not something you see on television. And I could not look away.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, in the A plot, Wednesday and Shadow head out to track down yet another new American God in order to persuade them to join Wednesday's side in the war. This time they're trying to track down 'Money.' Unfortunately, his trio of security girl scouts won't give them access, because Shadow has never had a line of credit, and Money hates that. Yes, you read that correctly. Security Girl Scouts. OK, technically 'Penny Scouts,' so as to avoid getting sued by the Girl Scouts of America. They are selling candy named 'Payback,' because not all of the metaphors in this show are subtle.
And on the other team's bench, Mr. World sends Technical Boy to find a replacement for the recently murdered Argus. TB goes to Silicon Valley to find someone who isn't named by the show, but is the head of a company called Xie Comm, so one assumes his name is Xie. This same CEO is the boy we saw in the opening sequence, playing video games and practicing Bach, until he realizes the link between music and math, programs software to write new Bach-like music, and apparently brings Technical Boy into being to play electronic classical music at his father's funeral. It's actually a really well structured and meticulously pieced together dissertation on the interrelationship between faith, love, music, and numbers, and it works all the better for throwing us into it without giving us any context or information whatsoever. I'm not always a fan of the cold open on this show, but this was really well done.
Technical Boy refers to this man whose name we have to assume is Xie as his friend. What's more, he refers to himself as being Xie's only friend, and we're given no reason to doubt that statement. Which makes it all the more heartbreaking when World shows up, uses New Media to steal Possibly-Xie's attention, and then leaves Technical Boy to die.
Oh, yeah. Technical Boy dies.
I did not see that coming. But we did have an extended discussion with New Media earlier about whether old Media had died or just been reformed, so maybe that was foreshadowing for New Technology. I hope not though, because Bruce Langley was fantastic in a part designed to be unlikable, and it would take away from his shock death if they just brought him back again. "I was literally your only friend..." he says to Possibly-Xie. But it seems much more likely that what is breaking his heart is that the reverse was also true. Goodbye Technical Boy. I spent a lot of time hating you, and then you made me cry for you, and then you died. RIP. Unless of course I read the situation wrong and he isn't dead. Then I'll feel foolish for writing this paragraph.
So, having 'retired a god' in Technical Boy, World gets past the sinister Girl  Penny Scouts, and he and Wednesday both sit down in front of Money, or 'The Bookkeeper' as he's credited, to make their sales pitch. Money gives a hard pass to both of them and leaves. Neither Wednesday or World seem that miffed about it, so it was probably more about preventing him from joining the opposition than getting him to join the team.

Quotes:
The Father: "This is Grief. And yet, the rising notes of joy shattering his own rules. Can you hear it?"
Ibis: "Like any formative life experience, death changes you."
Bilquis: "A woman’s heart should never be so hidden in God that she cannot hear her own truth."
New Media: "I wonder if the next version of me will feel me inside of her."
Mama-Ji: "You think America was eager to hand over her moneybags to the hungry, the tired, and the poor? We battle for every goddamn scrap."
New Media via a sign on a wall: "You’re only as good as your last win." Technical Boy: "Eat a giant bag of dicks."
Bilquis: "This country has not been kind to my face." Ibis: "You are as perfect and vibrant as the Euphrates."
Nancy: "Y’all done yet? ‘Cause I’m getting bored watching this bullshit."
Bilquis: "Suffering is not sacred."
Bilquis: "This country has done things to us." Nancy: "We have done things to us."
Wednesday: "I’m gonna win this one. People like me more than they like you." World: "I prefer to be feared."
Tumblr media
Bits and Pieces:
-- A note for the pedantic. Yes, technically Bilquis is from Persia, and as such is not technically an African God. However, Ibis greets her as his queen, and he's clearly from Egypt, and Nancy refers to all three of them as African Gods, so I'm going with that read. Besides, our understanding of the Persian Empires geography is far from clear.
-- Is it strange that Jacuel/Anubis wasn't anywhere to be found for the discussion of African God's obligation to fight racial injustice?
-- It's strongly implied that Wednesday was instrumental in getting Bast to have sex with Shadow in his dreams, possibly fulfilling his promise that Shadow would wake up feeling great. That felt gross and robbed Bast of her own agency, which is particularly egregious in her case.
-- On that note, this is a rare case where without reading the book it would have been very difficult to know what the Hell was going on during the sex scene. They sort of half-explain it afterwards, but I don't think I would have understood it at all.
-- The direction of the sex scene was telling. In season one it would have been far more graphic, laying everything on screen in a non-exploitative and almost clinical way. See, for example, Salim and Ifrit's sex scene in 'Head Full of Snow.' Here it's directed much more conventionally, right down to Shadow having the sheet discretely draped over his personal business afterwards.
-- I wish they hadn't leaned so heavily into the Asian father who makes his son practice music thing, but it was really the only way to tell the story of how music and math intersected in the boy's life to create Technical Boy, or at least his friendship with Technical Boy. It's just kind of a tired trope.
-- Speaking of, and just for the record; music and math are incredibly connected. In many important ways they're the exact same thing. A software program that can be taught to understand and recreate Bach isn't unfeasible by any stretch of the imagination. It probably already exists, I haven't googled it.
-- It's a little messy, structurally, that Wednesday got Shadow to the funeral home only to take him away on a day trip right away so that Bilquis could stop by and have an important conversation. That feels like a vestigial remnant from the book, i.e he goes from the train to Cairo there, so that's what he does here.
-- No Laura or Sweeney this week. Looks like they're back next week.
-- It also appears that next week we'll see more of Bilquis' new friend Ruby Goodchild. I liked Ruby a lot. She felt like a real person.
-- The actor playing Money was William Sanderson. You might know him from literally every movie and television show ever made.
A really great episode that leaned into the new regime's strengths as opposed to leaning away from the previous ones'.

Recent Sterek Reads
I haven’t been really into Sterek for a few months but the other day I had an intense craving for a Time Travel Sterek fic, this is the result. Over the past 4 days I have read all these fics (yes I am aware of how pathetic that sounds), in this exact order. All these fics I’ve read multiple times already and feel like these have a similar thread.
1. The Long Way Round (Series) - exclamation Time Travel. Magic Stiles. This is such an incredible series, I love that it’s a time travel fic that doesn’t go back to before the fire. Love Stiles bonding with Laura and Derek, and becoming the next Merlin. I really love all the magic in this and the incredible side characters.
2. Fly A Little Faster - mirrorkill Time Travel. Teen Derek. Basically what should have happened in 3x08 Visionary. Instead of falling for Paige Derek falls for Stiles. Full of cute dates, Derek being both shy and confident around Stiles, and Stiles being “cousin Stiles”.
3. Now As Ever (All That Is And Has Been) - venis_envy Time Travel. Teen Derek. This is a little more heartbreaking, Stiles spending every Saturday in the library listening to his mother read stories to kids, just rip my heart out why don’t you! But I love Stiles bonding with the Hale Family, and how he tries to stop Kate, and the cute little relationship with Derek. There is also a lot about string theory which can be kind of confusing.
4. This Time With Feeling - Crimson1 De-Age. Teen Derek. This is so fluffy without being fluffy, if that makes sense. It’s just a Derek that is happy and young and trusting. The pack interactions are so amazingly nice, and Stiles and Derek being best buds (with a little extra of course, this is a Sterek story) is the greatest. Derek as a comic book geek is precious.
5. Spook: A Ghostly Love Story In Three Parts - zosofi Ghost. Time Travel. Teen Derek. This is a super interesting fic with Stiles being a Medium. Love the Stiles and Lydia friendship and Ghost Derek is sweet. The Time Travel aspect and the merging of the timelines is really awesome.
6. Our Memories Are Numbered - rufflefeather Memory Loss. Confident Derek. The one thing I love most about this fic is how confident Amnesia Derek is, so sure of himself. And the way the pack kind of comes together and everyone in their own way heals things, it’s really awesome. Also the take on the Alpha Pack is interesting.
 7. By Any Other Name - entanglednow Memory Loss. This has the feel of a Supernatural episode but with Derek and Stiles knowing nothing about themselves and assuming they are dating. The tension between them is really well done and at the end you almost don’t want them to get their memories back.
8. Where Clouds Roll By - ohanotherday De-Age. Young Derek. Teeny tiny Derek still all bossy and stubborn, attaching himself to Stiles, is super cute. Derek saying “’Tiles” is the cutest thing ever. Just, tiny Derek is so freaking cute okay??
9. Does Size Really Matter? - impalagirl, wilddragonflying Tiny Derek. Okay, I have a thing for Stiles taking care of Derek it seems. But tiny tiny Derek with fluffy ears and a tail is adorable. I love how it’s set during S1 and even though Derek talks a lot more than normal, it still seems very in character. Like this bonding between Stiles and Derek could have happened on the show, it was very natural.
10. Prince Among Wolves - Rarwen (Zimothy) Parent Derek. Babysitter Stiles. The kids in this, Andy and Olly, are the cutest things ever. I love that Stiles is so good with the little wolves and that there’s a whole thing about Andy being Transgender, and Derek trying to accept it. Stiles fits himself into Derek’s pack so seamlessly and mends this little family.
So I figured out the connecting threads. The biggest connection with these fics is Caretaker Stiles. No matter the fic, Stiles is always taking care of / protecting Derek, it’s my favourite thing. Another thread would be Derek not exactly canon Derek all the time, mainly this slightly more free, confident, happy Derek. Even if it’s only for a short time, it’s still beautiful.

obligatory post viewing the last jedi comment/laterblog/thought dump SPOILERS,
SPOILERS do not read FUCKING MAJOR LAST JEDI SPOILERS look away
honestly it’s a good job billie lourd looks more like debbie reynolds than carrie b/c it’d confuse people otherwise
also.... why is Hux so funny??? he is such a loser, he’s supposed to be this big scary bad guy but he’s like... the whump bait for the bad guys. I laughed almost every time he was on screen b/c he was so pathetic it reached levels of genuine funny. I don’t often see the comic relief guy be the fuck awful one.
BUT POE THO WITH THAT I’M HOLDING FOR HUX SASS i love him so much
and bb8′s methods of fixing shit are worryingly like mine AKA pray for the best, hope it doesn’t catch fire
i love general leia organa
ALSO CANONICAL MOVIE USAGE OF THE FORCE FUCKBOYS, ON SCREEN DEMONSTRATION OF PHYSICAL FORCE ABILITIES FROM GENERAL LEIA ORGANA, NO MORE DENYING IT B/C HER SENSING LUKE ISN’T ENOUGH FOR YOU
get fucked fuck boys
laura dern has a really long neck and i never noticed before
finn’s leaking suit was so lol worthy is2g
also highkey poe is super in love with finn still jjust so u know
at the end of the movie poe and rey drink han’s leftover liquor b/c they missed hitting that
R O S E
Rose not hesitating to stun Finn’s ass
Rose who lost her sister in a run suggested by Poe and didn’t hold it against him
Rose who got to cry and CARE and stand for something, Rose who carried on without stopping because her sister died for this and she will carry on, she /will/.
Rose who wouldn’t let Finn die, because there are unavoidable sacrifices, and he wouldn’t be one of them
i fucking love Rose
LUKE FUCKING SKYWALKER MAKING TUMBLR CRACK POSTS COME TRUE 2017 like seriously HE FUCKING PITCHED THE LIGHSABER OVER HIS SHOULDER LIKE THAT CRACK COMIC
i fucking died
and my lordy the PORGS my sweet penuin like noodles
i love them so much
also luke has clearly inheritied some never before seen Extra(tm) ualities from Anakin b/c /// dude/// u could have done ANYTHING to catch that fish but y’all have to pitch yourself off a fucking cliff on a pointy stick and spear it
dude
not even gonna talk about the milking thing that was just as uncomfortable as they intended it to be
rey mocking his daily routine tho
REACH OUT *raises arm* *eyes roll so hard they fall off the cliff and fall into sea*
luke tickling her hand with the thing i died
Rey accidentally destroying the whole island and being judged by the lizard fish people
rey asking him to put clothes on through unexpected force visions tho highkey me he was more ripped than i’d expected and it was kinda distracting
oh and i forgot kylie being totally unwilling to shoot the bridge out bc he could sense leia. Leia knowing he was there with the finger on the trigger.
oh shit tho
do u think she knew it wasn’t him who fired??? He couldn’t do it, rando soldiers did it, but did Leia know??
I liked the way they did the kylie/rey interactions, like, filming wise?? it was good??? and also they didn’t offend my sensibilities either. I kinda like that she tried to get him to do the right thing but then was like ‘well... oh well imma fight u down instead’. Girl is practical. isn’t gonna give up what’s important for his ass.
THEY DRAGGED MONACO’S ENTIRE ASS
srsly... it’s entire goddamn ass
and people who make mint off war
tho i greatly appreciate the comment that they sell to the resistance too. It cheapens the depth of it if you imply otherwise.
‘the most depraved people in the galaxy’
*supercut to super rich people casino*
Chewie ate a porg and i cried
i cried just like the other porgs
the leia holo and the trinket and everything that made me hurt
despite anything else, Rey’s utter confidence that she can and will turn Kylie to the light again warmed me. Like yeah, you go girl, you believe you can do anything.
ok tho but Poe and purple dern (idr her name oops so purple dern she is) irritated me in a way that the narrative was so obviously framed against her and i’m fed up with stories doing that to women, forcing us to doubt them to only prove ‘look we gotcha!!! why did u think badly of the lady???’, She was never wrong, Poe kinda did do that, but narrative bias and all. But also the mutiny was hilarious b/c they were so bad at it. And leia stunning poe and 3po and Not Leia Jr immediately putting their hands up lol
and star wars is know for loud and obnoxious, and i ADORED that they used this to their advantage and had utter, complete, total silence after purple dern made her move.
BB8 was stunning the whole movie full stop
snoke was a dick and i’m still laughing that he like, got chopped in 2 and later u see his arm still on the side indicating he ended up more than 2 parts. just subtly in the bg bc this is not a high rated movie
Hux’s reaction to all of this was utterly priceless btw i was in stitches
HIGHKEY tho Finn’s showdown with Phasma. So good. So So good. like, the one blue eye. Quiet, yet ultimately powerful symbolism that didn’t need flash to make it’s point.
i loved that Ren called Rey Nobody. He called her nobody. Like, i know everybody was on team ‘rey should be a solo or skywalker!!’ but this was narratively more significant. Kylo wants to erase everything. He wants freedom from his legacy, from the past. From Snoke an Skywalker alike. He called her nobody as an insult, and to be nobody is all he wants. It’s everything he wants. It was telling. Rey has a freedom he does not and he knows it.
whoever made the red salt ground decision, like, amazing, the symbolism of the resistance being shot in the heart and the imagary of the red salt spooling out of the opening like they were bleeding out dangerously was a brilliant piece of visual storytelling.
luke and leia just
it was good enough that i’m not super bitter she didn’t smack him upside the head
in the end though, i think it was a good conclusion of Luke’s arc. It was very Kenobi, and I think Luke would have liked it that way.
i know people criticise the new ones for using the formula from the original episodes, but like, i think nowadays that has a certain amount of resonance to it itself.
Rey escaping with everybody on the falcon while the old, scraggly, lived in exile mentor fights off the big bad? it was symmetrical.
OH and when kyle issues an order, and Hux repeats it with gusto and then ren just fucking LOOKED at hux once going *dude wtf* was top tier humour
i like bad guys who are genuinely fucking terrible but also so easy to mock.
and hux’s ‘do u think u got him?’
i loved rey and Poe’s little meet cute like they’re gon be such cute friends and they’re gonna be finn’s wingmen lbr
and the movie achieved the modus operandi. A spark can start a flame. Most of them all got slaughtered, and the end of the movie was hopeful??? All that’s left is enough people to pack into the falcon and run with, but it didn’t feel like despair. It felt hopeful.
and then topping it off with a shot of the little boy looking into the horizon, talking to his friends about Luke Skywalker, and then his broom in the shadow of the sun looking like a lightsaber, resistance ring on his finger.
i’m emotional.
and a last thought, when i saw luke’s x-wing in the water, i thought the Moment would be him lifting it from the depths, like it was so long ago, but i was wrong, it will stay there forever now. It seems fitting that his jedi journey started with his ship sinking and it ended sunk for good.

spot the reference: anchor edition
i’m doing this for my own pleasure and no one else's but you'll probably enjoy it anyway because man the callouts i give myself in this post you don’t have to read the rabid dog section it got Long
anyway this is just a list of references either to the show or to other stuff that i put in this fic, because i've been in the UT fandom too long not to enjoy hiding stuff in my work. it doesn't even go into the GIANT list i COULD make of all the neat research tidbits or foreshadowing to That Last Part. one thing at a time. if you haven’t read anchor this post spoils the absolute best part so maybe don’t click the readmore!
PART I
"I can do what's necessary," Argent repeats, voice hushed. They pass under an outcropping of rock, throwing them both into shadow. "I can. I will."
this is a throwback to a line chris says in 4.05 IED, when he and derek are down in the hale vault, discussing what to do about kate. [gifs]
"We'll catch up to her," Chris assures him. "My family has been hunting things faster than us for hundreds of years. It's a marathon, not sprint. She uses up this much energy now, she'll be a little slower later."
Somehow, Derek doesn't find that very comforting.
this is something derek says to chris in 2.12 Master Plan, upon being told of their temporary truce. he knows he fucked up [gifs]
"It's rough terrain. We'll have to take it on foot."
"Not exactly." Chris sucks the last bit of salsa off one thumb and stands. He jerks his head over at a dusty-looking red motorcycle parked just a few feet away. "That's ours. Until we catch Kate, anyway. A little rickety—but it's all-terrain."
so this was partially because research told me a lot of people prefer bikes to travel around mexico, but also because three other protagonists i’m fond of use bikes to great effect. did not know this before deciding on the bike, but apparently JR Bourne is also a bike guy. (you’re welcome!)
PART II
Life is so strange. It's Derek's very first bike ride, and he spends most of it half-asleep, snuggled up next to an Argent.
“life is so strange” is my very favoritest line...from a fanfic i like about some dumbass horndog named barnes
Tonight Argent dreams of Kate, sitting on the bed next to him in Allison's old bedroom. "I want to honor the code," she tells him sadly, "but I can't do this myself." She has the knife positioned over her heart, gripping it with white knuckles. "Chris," she pleads. "Help me." The full moon is coming. "I don't want to die alone."
"i can’t do this myself - chris, help me” is something victoria says to chris in 2.09 Party Guessed. [gifs] the rest of it came from, uh, someone else. (:
One night Derek tells Chris about the auto repair shop he and Laura both worked in while they lived in New York and discovers Chris has a love of classic cars.
"Laura, too," Derek says. "I mean, I like cars all right, I picked up some stuff from her, enough to do most of my own repairs, but she was really the car person. She had this...1960s, I don't remember what year, it was Mustang she was restoring, bit by bit. Champagne gold."
Chris lets out a low whistle. "Now that's a machine. What happened to it?"
"Told the owner she could keep it when I left town," Derek says. "It really was more Laura's thing. She was picky, wouldn't drive anything that she could outrun. That was Laura," he sighs, "drove 25 over every speed limit, smoked like a chimney, and always looking for an excuse to pick a fight. She was almost a worse alpha than I was."
"But great taste in cars," Chris says. "I used to have this black 1967 Impala I liked to work with in my spare time. I've always wanted to restore one from scratch, but after I got married and we started moving around, it was too much trouble to lug around the extra vehicle with us—black cars are so hard to keep clean. I had to take up whittling instead."
the 1967 impala is, of course, from supernatural, and it’s all @marcusanthotius emily’s fault, as evidenced here, and i’m never taking that post down so she has to live with it forever. the mustang is a car my own dad used to love (and if you’re curious, it was a 66). “black cars are hard to keep clean” is something chris said during the infamous windshield-washing scene in 1.03 Pack Mentality. [gifs - none of that particular line, but this is the scene]
PART III
"It triggers the shift," Chris says, rubbing his neck, "by means of raising your pulse." Derek listens to Chris's again—sure enough, his heart is already pounding. "It taps into the rage, the bloodlust. Makes you rabid. It's a kind of endless loop of feedback—the more your pulse raises, the worse the rage, and the more powerful the rage, the more it raises your pulse. Eventually even a werewolf's heart will just give out. The only reason to use it at all is that most werewolves aren't capable of burning it out of themselves when they're in that state of mind. So it's a sure death for the werewolf—but a sure death for anyone else nearby, first."
Whatever Chris learned about the wolfsbane is wrong. Maybe because no one who's been hit with it has ever survived it; they had to make guesses from the outside. And from the outside, Derek knows he looks furious. But he's spent most of his life wrestling with rage, and this isn't just rage.
It's also terror.
so i’ve talked about this before, but i actually didn’t realize i did this until much later that i accidentally ripped off supernatural AGAIN for this: in 4.06 Yellow Fever, which is a BAD EPISODE, fight me, people get infected with a “ghost sickness” that causes you to feel more and more fear until your heart beats so fast it eventually just gives out.
Argent swallows, hard. "The year of the fire," he says unsteadily, struggling with the math, because he can't quite remember when that was. What year was Derek born? How old is he—in his twenties, right? "Two-thousand—five? Six?"
"Fifteen," Derek replies, very very quietly, "is the number you're after. I was fifteen. The fire happened on my sixteenth birthday."
i did this as a shoutout to jesse turner of @cambionverse, who is a lot like derek in general, and also had a very devastating fire happen on an important birthday of his, in part because he too got tricked by a hunter with a pretty face. (chris isn’t a great guesser, by the way - canon keeps changing the date of the fire + derek’s age when it happened, but in this fic, the fire was in 2004.)
Chris exits the bathroom and leans against the doorframe, watching Derek with his arms folded. "Pourquoi est ce que je devrais apprendre l'espagnol," he asks, looking almost fond, "quand tu est là?"
His French isn't bad, actually—Derek would give him a B+ for the effort.
this is a real thing that happened to me in real life when i was watching 1.12 Code Breaker with @machidielontheway coralie, who is a native french speaker and helped me do the french translations for anchor. when chris spoke the original code in its original french, she had to rewind it to listen again, and ultimately said JR’s accent was all right but not great and gave him "a B+ for the effort." chris was originally supposed to be a native speaker of both english and french for this fic, but that was so funny i just had to change it. (coralie and i have a lot of fun when it comes to french.)
Derek dips a little lower and finds a barely-noticeable scar on Argent's hip, a dark spot that's just a little indented. "Hmm." He strokes a thumb over it thoughtfully, presses it into Argent's skin. His other fingers then naturally come to rest on four identical marks further back on Argent's side. "Something with claws."
the second @cambionverse shoutout of the fic, a much tinier one, this is also a line from the first chapter of cambion: "What happened to [Bobby]?" "Something with claws." Ben stays still for a moment, then lifts a hand to the deep gouges on his shoulder.
"You listen to my heartbeat when I say it, Derek. It wasn't about you. New anchor or not, I know you won't hurt me, and I meant it when I said I wasn't afraid of you. But Riley—" Chris looks away, swallowing hard. "Riley terrified me."
riley was named for sam wilson’s tragically fridged-for-character-angst wingman in captain america 2: the winter soldier. yes, really. his last name, roux (which never appears in the fic), sorta-kinda means red, which sorta-kinda works as a reference to his alpha eye color at the time of his death. “riley” and “rabid” also both have five letters, begin with R, and have the same number of syllables, vowels, and consonants. (this is the first time riley’s name appears in this fic despite him being important from the very first scene; only took 35 thousand words...repression, much?)
PART IV
Riley lets out an earth-shaking roar, and lunges. Chris ducks, and Riley's claws leave deep gouges in the concrete wall behind him where his head was only moments before.
"Riley, listen to me—"
in pacific rim, yancy says a near-identical line to his brother right before he dies: “raleigh listen to me—” (hi, cally!)
There's growling from closeby, and glowing red eyes flash in the dark—Chris rolls. There's a table here where they keep weapons, and—yes, his hands close around a shotgun, he stands and whirls—
"Riley, stop! I don't want to hurt you—don't make me hurt you, please—"
this one is a reference to 3.22 De-Void, when chris says to derek “i don’t want to kill you, derek, don’t make me kill you, please” while he’s under the nogitsune’s spell. [gifs, kinda, they’re part of a set]
Chris isn't as upset anymore—not hyperventilating or flashing back—but his tears seem endless, starting anew every time they seem ready to slow. "I'm sorry," he says several times. "I'm sorry, this isn't me, I don't know what's wrong with me—"
in 1.11 Formality, after kate tells allison about werewolves and the sheriff catches her speeding and crying, “this is not me” is what she repeats to herself very harshly to get it under control. repression is kind of a family trait i guess :(
Derek starts towards the cabin, but Chris catches him by the shoulder. "Hang on," he hisses, "what are you gonna do, just run in there with no plan?"
"She is," Derek says, with as much feeling as possible when you're also trying to be totally silent, "right there." He jabs a finger in the cabin's direction. "I'm going to go and kill her. That's been the plan from the beginning."
"Exactly," Chris says, "she's just there. In that nice big dark house full of who-knows-what. I don't know, don't you think that's a little—"
"Don't say 'too easy'," Derek warns. "People say 'too easy,' bad things happen. Trust me, I'd know." Lightning flashes closeby, briefly illuminating the trees. "None of this has been easy."
"So, what," Chris says, "we just take her by surprise, and that's it? You don't think it's dangerous to underestimate her like that?"
"Two on one—" Derek eyes Chris critically. "—well, one and a half—we can't lose. She thinks we're dead, remember? She'll never see us coming."
"I don't like it," Chris says, folding his arms. "It's too easy."
There's a rustle from the undergrowth nearby.
in 1.12 Code Breaker, scott and derek have this same conversation, reversed, after scott frees him from where he was being held prisoner by kate. (that’s how he knows.) it’s worth noting that as soon as derek agrees scott is right, he gets shot twice by allison, accompanied by kate, and he and scott BOTH get blinded by allison’s flashbulb arrow. in 6.10 Riders On The Storm, scott and stiles have a similar conversation when they find the switch to divert the ghost riders’ train, this time with stiles insisting they let it be easy; they decide to go for it and promptly get their asses handed to them by the nazi alpha werewolf. [gifs] (thank you cathy <3)
"Like I said: the more they kill, the crazier they get. The crazier they get, the more they kill. Even if he means well, he won't be able to stop himself from attacking you eventually; it's just his nature. I know it's a hard time for you right now, but you've gotta be prepared, huh? He's helping you right now, but we hunt those—"
"—who hunt us, yes," Argent finishes, trying to keep his annoyance in check.
"You don't know the things about him I do," she hisses, her breath hot on his ear, "you don't know how cold-hearted he can be. Sooner or later he's gonna see you for the animal you are, just like he's seeing it in me. That's his nature. And I guarantee you, Derek—" His hands grab at her wrist, tugging uselessly. "The next thing he'll slip between those pretty pink lips of yours will be his .45."
this warning is given once to chris and once to derek, and it's a reference to a story deaton tells deucalion in 3.08 Visionary, when warning him that he cannot trust gerard:
When the scorpion asked the frog to carry him across the river, the frog said, "How do I know you won't sting me?" The scorpion replied, "Why would I do that? Then we'd both drown!" So the frog agreed. Halfway across the river, the scorpion stung the frog. When the frog asked him why he did it, since now they would both die, the scorpion replied, "It's my nature."
fun fact: this story was also originally the prologue of the fic before i changed it to the first version of the rabid dog story (which wouldn't quite fit anywhere else).
THE RABID DOG STORY
this is technically in part iv, but since it’s too big to quote in its entirety, i’ll just give it its own section, because of course i wound up going on way longer than i meant to (i get excited and explain this to a lot of people, so it's handy to have it typed down in case i wanna explain it again). the story/plot device in general is a sort of "reference" to two things: a 1970s TV show about the korean war called M*A*S*H, and 2.10 Fury.
so the original inspiration for this plot point came from M*A*S*H. the show follows a "mobile army surgical hospital" which is a fancy way of saying it's the medics who treat the wounded. in the finale (spoilers...you've been warned lol), the main character hawkeye has been committed to a mental institution after a nervous breakdown. he tells a story about a party that happened on a bus: how everyone was screaming and yelling and having a great time, how one person "couldn't wait" for the bottle of whiskey. but the more often he tells the story, the more details that change: the person was actually a soldier, and the soldier was actually wounded, because the whole bus was full of wounded (thus the screaming), and the bottle was full of life-saving plasma, not whiskey, and the soldier in question LITERALLY couldn't wait.
hawkeye tells a story about a refugee woman that had a chicken that wouldn't stop clucking, and when they were forced to pull over to hide from the approaching enemy, he told her to make it be quiet so they wouldn't all die. and she did: she smothered it. what he eventually is forced to remember is that it wasn't a chicken, but her baby. (the chicken's feathers are even patterned like a blanket in the flashback!) you can watch a clip of the final version of hawkeye's story here (but be careful, it's a rough one).
the way chris tells his rabid dog story twice in canon, and changes the details once he's around stiles, who knows the truth about werewolves, reminded me a lot of that episode of M*A*S*H. (yes, it COULD be that they're two different stories, but they're so similar! work with me here.) he doesn't bat an eyelash when victoria says gerard shot the dog, yet later insists he but a pullet through his friend's head (after which his friend was still somehow able to crawl towards him...?). it also, of course, changes from a dog to a werewolf. the way he tells one version of the story in each "chapter" of the fic, each time getting a little closer to the truth, was absolutely 100000% inspired by M*A*S*H.
"Riley, stop! I don't want to hurt you—please don't make me hurt you—"
"So you shot him?" Derek asks quietly.
Chris's hands tremble around the shotgun. What if Riley bites him? What if he gets turned too? He has to defend himself, doesn't he? Riley's coming at him again, he has only a second to decide—
"I..." Something dark and terrible shakes loose in Argent's memory. His mouth drops open in horror and his vision blurs. "I didn't!" he cries, eyes wide. "Oh, God—" He drags in a shuddering gasp, covering his mouth with both hands, the truth a vice clenched around his chest. "Oh my God—I didn't shoot him!"
and this realization was definitely influenced by that clip up there. ^ (the idea to rip off M*A*S*H was the only reason this thing got written at all; it was too good a plot twist not to put into real words.)
the WAY chris tells the final version of the story, in part iv, was inspired by 2.10 Fury. sadly i don't have a clip or any gifs handy (i looked...), but the way matt weaves in and out of his story about drowning—the way he begins speaking in present tense, the way he repeats coach lahey's dialogue word-for-word as coach lahey says it in the flashback...
"We—we thought there was a cure," Chris tries to explain, but he's crying and it sounds so foolish and naive to him now. He sounds like a child. "He hasn't hurt anyone, I just thought—"
"You thought?" Gerard roars. "He hasn't hurt anyone? Look at yourself! This is—"
"—why we have a code!" Argent chokes. "This is what it's for!"
Gerard waves his gun at the body on the ground. "Look at him! If he'd honored the code, do you think he would have ended up like this?" Gerard grabs Chris by the chin and forces his head to turn. Chris squeezes his eyes shut, but Gerard backhands him across the face with his other hand. "I said—"
"I said look at him!" Argent drags in a sob.
He's not dead.
"Oh, God," Argent whispers. "He's not dead. Even after all that, he's—"
"—still trying to claw his way towards you, do you see that, Christopher?"
...is what inspired the way i chose to tell it.
AAAAND that’s all, i’m pretty sure i got everything, i’ll end this post on that happy note bc i’ve been working on it for like 3 hours now and that was way longer than i intended for it to be.

StackedNatural Day 27: 8x03, 15x02
StackedNatural Masterpost: [x]
October 17, 2012
8x03: Heartache
Written by: Buckleming
Directed by: Jensen Ackles
Original air date: October 17, 2012
Plot Synopsis:
While trying to track down Kevin, Sam and Dean get sidetracked by a series of murders where the victims have gotten their hearts ripped out.
Features:
Missing hearts, haunted organ transplants, an immortal being in love with a mortal, the boys argue over whether or not to continue hunting after closing the gates of hell.
My Thoughts:
I fully forgot how season 8 continued to be the destiel season even in episodes where Cas is not present or even mentioned by name.
Somehow, despite this episode being written by my arch nemeses Buckleming, this episode is coherent, entertaining on the surface, and has meaningful and relevant subtext.
So anyways, there’s this ancient, incredibly powerful being that falls in love with a mortal and finds himself intrinsically and irrevocably changed, to the point where he can’t imagine his life without this other person. The ancient being dies due to their love of the mortal. The mortal is bereft. Sound familiar?
I remember a lot of spnblr losing our minds over this episode when it first aired, and it’s become even more relevant post-confession, when the back half of that recap came true for Cas and Dean.
When they get the truth out of Betsy, right as she says “you can’t imagine the burden of it all”, the camera cut right to Dean’s face as he nodded understandingly. It’s worth pointing out here that Jensen directed this episode. And then his heart almost gets pulled right out of his body. Absolutely wild.
Notable/Kickass Lines:
“By that time, Brick himself had changed... inside. He wasn't just the warrior whose only reason for living was combat. He – we were deeply, deeply in love.”
Laura’s (completely subjective) Episode Rating: 8.5
IMdB Rating: 7.7
15x02: Raising Hell
Written by: Buckleming
Directed by: Robert Singer
Original air date: October 17, 2019
Plot Synopsis:
Dean, Castiel and Sam call on Rowena to help keep the evil souls at bay and get an unexpected assist by Ketch.
Features:
The barrier begins to weaken, Ghost union, Rowena arrives, Ketch tries to assassinate Belphegor, Kevin’s ghost deserved better, Chuck wants Amara’s help.
My Thoughts:
I hate this episode so much and I just saw it recently when I caught up on Supernatural. Not to complain on every post but I’m soo tired and I do not want to continue watching. But I made a commitment, goddamn it, and I am going to follow through.
Imo this arc did to ghosts in like 2 episodes what several seasons did to demons. That is to say, removed any element of mystique and danger from them and made them into just Some Guys who hate the Winchesters,
Ghosts are supposed to be the miserable, desperate impressions of the souls they were in life, and now they have a fucking union.
Rowena’s presence improves the ep slightly but then she spends most of it making eyes at fucking Ketch so her scenes stop being fun for me.
There is the one good Destiel scene sandwiched in there that prepares us for the divorce arc, and I am grateful for that. The Chuck scenes are fine too, I like Rob Benedict and he’s always fun to watch.
Notable/Kickass Lines:
“Can't believe I've teamed up with a demon again. Think I'd know better by now.”
“Dean. You asked, "What about all of this is real?" We are.”
Laura’s (completely subjective) Episode Rating: 2.6
IMdB Rating: 7.5
In Conclusion: I don’t have any more weddings in the near future messing up my stacked schedule so I’m praying things calm down this week.

“You’ve hurt your hand” “well I’m sure there’s no need to amputate” ah sister b/shelagh lowkey has some of the funniest lines she just slips them in and people miss them !!
Here it comes ..
THE MOMENT..
“Would you like me to have a look at that?” UHM YEA
No but seriously I can barely remember what I thought when I first watched this but I knew something was gonna happen because a nurse can handle her own damn cut & well you know, she was in love with him
HE KISSED HER HAND. A fucking doctor kissed a nuns hand people, how scandalous & this was THE MOMENT I KNEW I WAS CORRUPT AND WAS GOING TO HELL, I AM SATAN I WANTED THE DOCTOR TO KISS A FREAKING NUN ON THE MOUTH LIKE WTF WHO RAISED ME? MY MOTHER WANTED IT TOO SO IDK BUT THIS KILLED ME, LIKE R.I.P HERE LIES GABBY, I WAS IN THE GROUND DECEASED. I’m actual trash. Someone dispose of me in the proper bin #recyle
for real, this is when I really knew that I was never going to love any other show like this and I allowed it to ruin me
BUT HONESTLY WHAT THE HELL WAS HE THINKING? THATS A BOLD MOVE
BOLD IN GENERAL BECAUSE YOU DONT KNOW IF SHE LIKES YOU BUT BOLD x1000 BC SHE IS A NUN, YOU KNOW MARRIED TO GOD, VOW OF CHASITY AND ALL THAt??
What if she would’ve freaked tf out or told sister Julienne? I don’t even know. I’ll just be grateful for how things turned out
“At this moment I only know I’m not turning my back on you because of you but I’m doing it because of him” AHHHH, DONT WORRY BBY GOD LOVES U AND UNDERSTANDS YOU LOVE HIM AND THE DOCTOR, LOSE THAT HABIT AND GO PROPERLY KISS PATRICK 😭
Sister MJ judging the baby contest is the purest thing & I need it to cleanse my disgusting soul that wants a dr to get with a nun #notsorrythough
“In Nonnatus we were good at tending other’s wounds and there were times I felt we were all each other’s children..” brb I’m crying I love that they’re like a family 😭💕💔
I’m so happy they didn’t kill Nora and she actually was happy in the end. I really wasn’t sure for a moment (obviously when I first watched lol)
“ Free reliable contraception came too late to help her, but in time the scientists triumphed. Her daughters and granddaughters lives remained transfigured, long after man left fleeting footprints on the moon.” Vanessa always knowing what to say in the end.
Lets see how the pill is going to be reintroduced this series, I’m interested  in how it’s going to play out.
I’ve said that so many times though so I’ll be done
The End.

Dead Poets Society Redux: A Dazed Reflection Upon the Roller-coaster Ride that Was Critical Role Episode 84.
Oh man.
SCANLAN SHORTHALT LIVES.  THE DICE GODS HAVE SHOWN US MERCY.
Grog’s and Pike’s contributions to the ritual had me in tears, y’all.  We never get to see angst from them and BOOM there it was at full force.  PIKE’S NAT 20, THOUGH.  PLATONIC OR ROMANTIC, THAT’S SOME TRUE LOVE’S CRIT RIGHT THERE.  I AM CONTINUALLY AMAZED AT HOW NARRATIVELY PERFECT THE DICE SO OFTEN ARE.
Percy’s grief over the nature of resurrection, though.  That is some major survivor’s guilt right there.  He sat there and was like “well fuck, I get to come back, Scanlan gets to come back, but why the hell don’t I get to have my family back”.  WOW.  RIP MY STILL BEATING HEART FROM MY CHEST AND EAT IT IN FRONT OF ME WHY DON’T YOU.  At least he’s actually admitting his grief to his friends and attempting to deal with it instead of bottling it up.
PERCY AND PIKE’S PRANK WAS THE FUCKING BEST.  WE HARDLY EVER GET TO SEE THEIR FRIENDSHIP IN ACTION AND THIS WAS SO BEAUTIFUL.  THEY GET DRUNK AND BECOME MISCHIEVOUS ASSHOLE CHILDREN.  AND KERR IS THERE.  ALSO DRUNK.  AND HE HELPS AND WE FIND OUT THAT HE MAY HAVE SOME KINKY IN HIS PAST.  WHAT A NIGHT.
No but I was getting vibes from Kerr when he was asking about resurrection stuff that maybe he was asking because he was hoping that he could rez a fallen friend from his past or something.  THERE’S SO MUCH ABOUT HIM THAT WE DON’T KNOW.  UGH.
Vax staying the temple overnight, wondering what the fuck happens now and wondering if the Raven Queen still has some things she needs him to do for her.  Talk about “the next arc is gonna be about Vecna/undead/necromancy” vibes.  Like woah.
Oh my god, the Twins’ conversation wrecked me.  Now that the Chroma Conclave is finished, they can have the luxury of thinking about their future, but that means they have to deal with the fact that the things they each want don’t keep them on the same path.  Vax wants to go with Keyleth back to the Ashari.  Vex wants to stay in Whitestone with Percy and fully embrace her new home.  The fact that she was hoping that Vax would stay to tend his temple so that she wouldn’t be separated from him is just all kinds of HOW DARE YOU DO THIS TO US LAURA, BUT ALSO I LOVE YOU.  I can’t wait for Team Half-elf and the Disaster Human to sit down and have a serious talk about what they want and what they’re going to do.  I can’t wait to have my heart ripped out again.
I was really hoping that we’d get a conversation between Percy and Cassandra, but clearly he isn’t ready to deal with that yet.  TALK TO YOUR SISTER, PERCY.  SHE’S A TEENAGED SOVEREIGN WHO FEELS OVERBURDENED AND ABANDONED.  SHE NEEDS LOVE AND SUPPORT.  STOP BEING A SHITTY BROTHER.
I feel like even in his departure, Kerrek was still at maximum dad friend.  Like that was what I sort of imagined it’s like when a good dad helps their kid move away for the first time. Ugh, feels.
THERE IS TOTALLY GOING TO BE LIKE AN ESTABLISHED WEEK-LONG FESTIVAL IN EMON TO CELEBRATE THE DEFEAT OF THE CHROMA CONCLAVE EVERY YEAR NOW.  WITH JUST ENOUGH HONORING OF VM TO MAKE THEM SLIGHTLY UNCOMFORTABLE.
VM’s paranoia over Cenokir’s box was fucking heartbreaking, my dudes.  They have been so fucked up by everything that has happened to them, that they can’t trust anything.  What makes it even worse is that they are completely self aware.  They know they’re fucked up, but like any traumatized person, they also realize that knowing what’s wrong with them and stopping it from controlling their actions are two very different things.
LAMORE THOUGH.  THE FACT THAT THAT’S AN ANAGRAM OF MELORA IS FUCKING ME UP.  WHAT IF THAT WAS ACTUALLY MELORA, YO?  WHAT IF SHE BASICALLY JUST TOLD KEYLETH “YOU CAN KEEP MY STAFF AS LONG AS YOU FEEL YOU NEED IT”?  THAT’S SOME FUCKING TRUST IN KEYLETH’S PURITY OF HEART RIGHT THERE.  ALSO THE IDEA THAT A GOD JUST GENTLY TOLD HER THAT SHE DOUBTS HERSELF TOO MUCH HAS ME BLASTING OFF AGAIN LIKE FUCKING TEAM ROCKET.
Is it just me, or have a lot of the non-religious members of VM gotten closer to the gods lately?  Keyleth’s developing a relationship with Melora.  Vex was showing a little bit of reverence to Melora.  Grog is expressing interest in the ways of Kord.  What if this plays a major role in the next arc?  I wonder what it would take for Percy to change his attitude towards the gods.  I wonder if Scanlan will at any point think about his relationship to the gods.
Speaking of Grog and Kord, GUESS WHO’S FUCKING STOKED FOR EARTHBREAKER GROON VS. GROG PART 2.  WHAT IF GROG TAKES LEVELS IN MONK.  THAT WOULD BE FUCKING DOPE.  HE’D ALSO BE THE FIRST TO TRIPLE-CLASS.
I ALSO REALLY FUCKING WANNA SEE VICTOR AGAIN AND IF GERN SHOWS UP AT ANY POINT BECAUSE THE NECROMANCER YOU KNOW, I WILL BE SO FUCKING HAPPY.  FINGERS CROSSED.

Warning: There are spoilers ahead for AMC’S “The Walking Dead,” “Still Gotta Mean Something.”
Jadis is starting to become one of “The Walking Dead’s” most interesting characters.
After kidnapping Negan — and frustratingly letting him go — the Scavenger leader showed that she has a few secrets up her sleeve. Yes, she can speak in full sentences, she has an awesome eye for home decorating, and she just may flee the Rick/Negan party in a helicopter to safer pastures.
INSIDER spoke with Pollyanna McIntosh about the return of the mysterious chopper, Jadis’ odd infatuation with Rick, and how she’s happy she can finally stop answering “that stupid question” about why the Scavengers spoke in broken English.
Why Jadis lets Negan go
She had him right where she wanted him!

After Rick dropped the ball on killing Negan, Jadis had her chance when she took him back to the Scavengers’ hideout.
But then she went and blew it by letting him off easy and head back to the Sanctuary. She even gave him a car. Everyone’s giving this guy so much slack! And McIntosh gets it. She originally wanted to see Negan dead, too.
“That was a real bummer to for me. I was, like, ‘Oh, no. We gotta take him down!'” said McIntosh of how Jadis originally reacted. “But of course that’s the point in all this. [Negan] has to challenge Simon now and he might even have to challenge Dwight and I hope that Rick is the one who gets to do that [kill Negan].”
Ultimately, after Negan opened up to her about his bat Lucille and revealed he wasn’t the one behind the mass murder of the Heapster group, she found her vengeance wouldn’t be well served if she took out Negan.
Simon is the one Jadis really has a problem with.

Her revenge would almost be pointless. Instead, Negan will hopefully do her dirty work.
“He reveals himself to be a human being when he shares with her and they connect over this idea of loss and holding onto the history of those that meant the most to them,” McIntosh explains of going easy on Negan. “She really can’t do it and I think she also recognizes that Negan’s probably telling the truth that it was not something he chose to do and this way he goes and get the revenge for her.”
Jadis, ever the resourceful woman, is also thinking ahead.
“She’s also got a strong ally around in case she needs him because she doesn’t really know how she’s gonna find safety at this point. But she doesn’t want to go with him, so that made me happy.”
Who Jadis thinks is driving that helicopter

“This seems to be some other situation out there. Is it an extension of the Heapster community? Is it another community? Is it a single person? Is it a group? I don’t wanna give too much away,” McIntosh said.

McIntosh is glad she doesn’t need to answer anymore questions about the Scavengers’ controversial broken speech
Pollyanna McIntosh always hoped the show would reveal more of Jadis’ character.
Gene Page/AMC
After the death of the Scavengers, some fans were surprised to see Jadis start speaking in full sentences. Up until that point, her group was only seen speaking in short, broken sentences.
As a result, Jadis and the Scavenger group became easy fodder for jokes because of the puzzling manner in which they spoke. It turned out the Scavenger leader has been putting on as much of a facade as Negan and Ezekiel in the zombie apocalypse.
“I’m still getting used to it. It was a plan that worked very well. It was a motive that suited at the time,” McIntosh said of Jadis speaking normally. “She had steps for not wasting anything, which was a big hallmark of that community by not even wasting words. She had a military to control.”
Without a group to follow her, everything has changed for Jadis.
AMC
“I enjoyed it. It was a playful thing to do but now I just love the possibility of her speaking full sentences and with more connection and more understanding we can have with where she’s really coming from,” she added.
McIntosh said it’s an added relief fans finally know Jadis is capable of articulating her thoughts just as well — if not better — than the likes of Rick and Daryl. She doesn’t have to field questions from fans anymore on why the Scavengers speak in such a strange manner.
“I’m really glad for people to know. Some people thought that they [the Scavengers] had forgotten how to speak or that the time period in which they lost their ability to speak full sentences was ridiculous and I thought that was a bit ridiculous to be honest,” she said. “So I’m just glad not to have to answer that stupid question.”
What’s up with her relationship with Rick
One moment Jadis wants to sleep with him. The next? She’s holding a gun to his face. It’s complicated.
Gene Page/AMC
Jadis and Rick have a weird relationship. Since they’ve known each other, she has made Rick strip down to his boxers and photograph him, has asked to sleep with him in front of Michonne, and has shot him.
What’s going on there?
“When I did my Rick in the box work he did walk into my place and say, ‘Hey, we’re cool, right?'” McIntosh said of Rick popping up at the junkyard on season seven, episode six. “And that’s not the experience, normally — that people are just gonna forgive you and everything’s gonna be great. While she’s taking care of business, I think she’s a character that likes to have a bit of fun, and he’s apparently not a bad choice that she wants to hook up some with him. Make more little scavengers. I think it’s about more than just an attraction. I think there’s more going on here and all will be revealed.”
Michonne would not be OK with any of this. Or Richonne.
Gene Page/AMC
Since Rick left her trapped at the dump among her zombified Scavengers, McIntosh says the two have some healing to do before they’re on the same side again.
“They’re not exactly allies at the moment so I don’t know who needs to forgive more,” said McIntosh. “Were they to meet again who would need to do the forgiving?”
It may be a stalemate.
Does Jadis feel like she’s more #TeamRick or #TeamNegan or does that even matter?
RIP Brion and Tamiel.

“I don’t think it matters right now for her,” said McIntosh of aligning herself with Rick or Negan. “She knows that Rick is more trustworthy for sure. She sees in people the truth and their true selves and she definitely makes a very pointed remark to Negan when he says you can come join us in this disparaging way and so I think she has her opinion about Negan, she has her opinion about Rick … but she is a survivalist in the truest sense of the word so where she’d need him in the future I think that she would do what she needed to do.”
McIntosh designed T-shirts with her “Walking Dead” character on them for a worthy cause.
The shirt comes in black and white.

McIntosh wore a T-shirt with her character’s silhouette on Sunday’s “Talking Dead” after-show with the words, “Trash Queen,” a loving moniker for her character. If you were a fan, it’s something you can buy.
“All the money goes to the Joshua Nolan Foundation, which is a suicide prevention charity, which is very close to my heart and not only do they provide free counseling for folks who need it who are at risk, also they bring the conversation about mental health awareness in schools and other institutions so we can get rid of the stigma.”

“I met Laura Nolan, the founder and runner of the foundation who lost her son to suicide, and her story just really moved me,” she added. “It’s an emotional thing and it’s an emotional thing for me and I’m so proud of Laura for creating a charity out of such tragedy that’s really helping people in a very, very solid way.”
The shirts will be available until the middle of April on represent.com. You can find the Trash Queen shirt here and read more about the Joshua Nolan Foundation here.
McIntosh is working on a movie with some other stars from “The Walking Dead.”
McIntosh couldn’t talk about the project much — she couldn’t even say its name — but she’s eager to show it off to fans.
“I’m in the middle of post-production of my first feature that I directed so I’m excited to get that out there and get the fans to see that later on the year. We’re hoping to premiere it at the Toronto Film Festival and I can’t say much more than that,” she said. “There’s a couple of other cast members from the show in it and I’m excited. Feeling good about that.”
What she’s looking forward to on the final two episodes of the season
If Negan doesn’t take care of Simon, there are going to be some problems.
Gene Page/AMC
“[Jadis] hopes that Simon’s been taken care of and that’s what I’m excited to see — that great confrontation between Negan and Simon coming up and how that’s gonna go down,” said McIntosh. “I’m looking forward to seeing who’s in that car with Negan and whether it’s gonna be trouble for Dwight. I’m rather fond of Dwight now. And, I wanna see what’s in Carl’s letter. I wanna see if Rick is gonna step up and be the man we know and love again.”
“I don’t like this Rick the d— guy,” she added.
That’s one name for him.
Last Sunday’s episode, Rick took a dark turn. After breaking out the murder coat, he gave a group of Saviors his word they could return safely to the Hilltop. But Rick and Morgan changed their minds, killing every last one of the Saviors brutally.
Rick becomes a different person when the murder coat goes on.
Gene Page/AMC
Right about now, he’s not looking much better than Simon.
Fans won’t have to wait long to find out what’s inside Carl’s letter to Rick. It will be included on Sunday’s episode. You can read his full letter here, but only if you want to be spoiled.
As for Negan, the big mystery is who he picked up on his way home to the Sanctuary. We’re thinking it can be one of two people. You can read our thoughts on Negan’s passenger here.
We’ll see more of Jadis before the season’s end
Jadis’ story isn’t over yet.

“I know that there’s more in store for her in this season and I think that people will be kind of excited by the results,” said McIntosh.
Hopefully, the helicopter isn’t far behind.
