Out of curiosity, besides SC and SJ, have you played any other Celeste contests/collabs? And were there any maps from them that stood out to you?

Oh, I've played a few.

Winter Collab: sucks, except for forward facility which is a banger

FLCC Collab: It's in shambles, lol, I should probably go back and give it a second chance though. Stomach a little jank for the greater good, there's some really interesting ideas in there.

Frogeline Project: Mostly good, actually. Didn't clear this one 100% but there's good variety especially in the expert/gm range.

Dream Collab: This is actually the best fucking thing on the celeste gamebanana page, I don't talk about it much because it skews incredibly difficult & is hard to recommend, but it's just excellent almost all the way through and every map is completely different. There's only one "cliche" map per difficulty range, it's great, Rif's maps especially are all super unique and prickly. In my video about spring collab I talk about how delighted I was by the way the grandmaster lobby culminates in 2 cracked red difficulty maps that are completely different in tone and concept, Dream Collab culminates with 3. This fuckin dark triad of incomperable mega difficult shit, there's the standard hypernyoom ultra jellyspam map but there's also a 7d1d-lite style summit map and this just absolutely cursed core map that's one of my favorite things I've ever played in this engine. Sometimes I watch footage of dream collab maps when SJ makes me struggle to remember what I even like about this game.

I've played a couple contests too, but by their nature they are much less curated. Startup and Midway were both mostly playable, which was surprising, although there's a lot of mega scuffed shit to be found in there too. Endgame contest also must be mentioned, the uncuratedness of a contest combined with extreme difficulty makes for some absolutely absurd moments of emergent genius. Watch parrot dash's playthru of it, at least. Open Sea is another fav of mine.

Thorne!! 7. Does the character’s age matter to you? (BONUS QUESTION but I'm wondering how old you think he was when he was turned? I think for some reason my mind generated him being like a little older when I first read it but on my recent deep reread of B&G I was also reading along some meta about him being younger-man coded (also using clues from his relationship to Maharet and the tiny details about his life) and how it fits into the mold of Marius wanting to mentor young men/young men being drawn to him as an authority figure? And imagining him as a SMOL BABY actually completely changed the Thorne chapters for me. SO CURIOUS ABOUT YOUR THOUGHTS LOL. sorry i added a whole side project here I just got excited) 13. If you could draw effortlessly and as much as you wanted, what scene (s) would you draw for this character? 50. 7. Not tremendously? I do like that, at around a thousand, he's an old vampire but not a new super duper mega ultra old vampire. I do sort of still see pre-Prince Lestat era as meaningfully distinct from PL-onward. As one of ~20 vampires, having one who is a scootch older than Santino but younger than Mael is nice. Kind of like how I'm mad Eric got iced since that's a fairly rare age for one of the vamps.

I do tend to assume he was around 32-37 when he was turned, though I think he could easily be late 20s or something. Since the text doesn't specify, I just roll with what I want. I do think if he'd been in his early 20s you'd get some of the weird fawning you get with descriptions of Sybelle and Bianca, who are both over 20. One of my biggest complaints about the series is one of the commonest ones (I think?)--everybody's turned too young. So if I have any opportunity to visualize one as being a normal age, I'm going to do it. Also it feels like if he were that much younger than Daniel, it'd be mentioned?

As for scenes to draw, I do love that bathtub scene!!!!!!!! I do like that a lot!!!!

50. This one is not going to be popular, but in the PL era, I like the idea that Armand gets semi-won-over to the idea of the Court if he can be head of the secret police, and so then if Thorne is the face of the marginally more aboveboard side of law enforcement (LOW fuckin bar) (Eudoxia dID describe Cyril as sort of a maverick... not really chief material, you know?), then they with Marius form a little sexy trio of evil wankers who ostensibly uphold vampire justice. wouldn't that be great?? just terrible

this was VERY hard for several types 😭 i have a lot of favorites--H-Samurott is pretty tied with Floatzel, Mega Mawile super tied with Fezandipiti, and Incineroar is pretty neck and neck with G-Moltres. Anyway i think it's rly interesting that except for. wow literally only like 3 guys, my favorite Pokemon has been one from gens 7-9. idk! I just genuinely think Pokemon design gets stronger with each passing gen and these last few batches have just been one banger after another for me. they keep makin Dana Monsters!!!

I'm curious what games that have (playable) characters in Smash you've played. Have you considered having a list in your carrd for that?

I do keep lists for my own personal use but I haven't thought about adding a page to the carrd. I'm starting to consider it now that you've suggested it to me, but I haven't decided for certain.

But I can give you a summary of the list I made for myself.

Mario: I've played the series extensively enough to know most of the characters like the back of my hand (I don't know the Koopalings as well as the others); the specific list of which Mario games I've played is long enough that it would clutter this post so it might be better to just ask for that specifically.

Donkey Kong: Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2 (I haven't gotten around to playing 3 yet and I don't have DK64 or any of the newer DKC games)

Zelda: Of the games with the playable Links, I've played Ocarina of Time 3D, Majora's Mask 3D, Twilight Princess, Phantom Hourglass, and Breath of the Wild. I'm currently playing through Wind Waker (I've just entered the Wind Temple), and I've also played Skyward Sword. I have not played either Hyrule Warriors game.

Yoshi: Yoshi's Island is the only one I've finished, but I've played a bit of Yoshi's Story (a childhood fav despite never beating it) and a small bit of Wooly World

Kirby : I've layed Kirby's Dream Land 1-3, Kirby's Adventure, Super Star Ultra, Canvas Curse, Epic Yarn, Return to Dreamland, Triple Deluxe. I've watched a playthrough of Kirby and the Amazing Mirror and Kirby Fighters 2 but not played them; aside from the rest of the main platformers I'm drawing a blank on what else I need to play because almost all of the sub-games/"au" games are all interconnected somehow but I don't know which ones are skippable.

Star Fox: I've played Star Fox 64 3D and since I don't have a Wii U I just watched a playthrough of Star Fox Zero; not ideal but better than nothing

Pokemon: At least one version of the mainline games from gen 4 onwards (Diamond, Platinum (my first), HeartGold, Black, White 2, X & Y, Omega Ruby, Sun, Ultra Sun, Shield, and I'm currently playing through Brilliant Diamond), I've played a few of the side/spinoff games but not very many (PMD Explorers of Time (only partly), Pokemon Ranger Guardian Signs (I own all 3 but I've only played GS), PokePark Pikachu's Adventure, the original Pokemon Rumble, and Battle Revolution (a fav but I've never beaten it)). I haven't played either of Red/Leaf's games, though (I haven't decided whether I wanna buy RBY for my 2ds or emulate FRLG).

Fire Emblem: I've played Awakening and am partway through a second playthrough, and I'm currently working on Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light

Game & Watch: Game & Watch Gallery 1-3, couldn't find anything on 4 that was neither included in the other 3 or relevant to Mr. Game & Watch

Kid Icarus: I've played Uprising and I've played a little bit of the original

Wario: I've played a little bit of Wario Land: Shake It (I think anyways) and I played WarioWare when I was little

Metal Gear Solid: I watched a friend play MGS2 and he's currently playing through MGS3; ironically I only got a brief glimpse of MGS1 (i.e. the game that the actual Solid Snake is the main character of)

Pikmin series: I played Pikmin 3 Deluxe (including the two Olimar side games) and I've watched the TRG playthrough of Pikmin 1 and part of chuggaaconroy's playthrough of 2

Mii/Wii series: Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Wii Play, Nintendo Land, and I've played a tiny bit of the demo for Miitopia (I made Luigi in the game and I've seen the intro)

Pac-Man: A little bit of the original Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man

1 game only: I've played Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed, Metroid NES, a small bit of F-Zero SNES, Ice Climber, part of Mega Man 1 on the legacy collection (got past yellow devil and then dropped it), Little League of Punch-Out NES, Banjo-Kazooie, one low-level classic mode run of Arms, Minecraft, and I have vague memories of one of the Kingdom Hearts games. Right now I'm playing through Earthbound, Final Fantasy 7, and Dragon Quest 11 S.

the victim (Dane) falling for the bully (Riven) for no apparent reason

the non existing friendship between the winx's and therefore it makes no sense that they still keep hanging out with each other

all the good specialist were erased too (like Timmy and Brandon)

the outfits making them look like grown ass moms and not like teenagers

the cast looking like they are more likely to be in college than in high school

Beatrix (besides everything she isn’t even a good villain, she is the worst secret “villain” i’ve ever seen like she is like a freaking elefant in mouse town)

and now Alfea basically is Hogwarts 2.0 but a cheaper version of it

changing Musa's powers because we need element powers for some freaking reason and not even doing anything with her powers for like 90% of the show

everything looking so dark and greasy and boring and basically not like Magix or anything magical at all

Stella (she is basically Diaspro but so much worse)

the lowkey abusive relationship between the adoptive parents (mom) and Bloom just to never mention it again

Aisha having no backstory and telling EVERYONE constantly that she swims but we never get scenes of her outside of her "parenting Bloom" sidequests

Terra saying that she misses Stella because she insulted her and was mean to her, because fat girls need this constant body shaming amiright?

they really tried making Stella bullying Terra ✨their thing✨

Aisha struggling with her powers is suddenly not important anymore when it’s inconvenient

the girls hate each other for like 80% of the show and suddenly they have a deep bonding

Musa being useless and stating the obvious and only being there for obvious exposition

Vanessa apparently almost dying in the fire and having third degree burns but only at places that can be covered by clothes easily (and also they do not look like third dagree burns at all)

Bloom ready to kill her “parents” because they took away her door

“BuTt StUfF” another great literal masterpiece from our all-time favorite Riv

Stella is not only not part of the group for like 75% of the time, the others also don’t like her at all and therefore you don’t care about her problems at all

the teachers being unecessary mean to their students like “oh you just learned to control your powers, well damn you still suck hope you get better soon lol that looks so bad try harder”

Aisha being the only one who has no love interest

^same as Terra who is pining after a dude that doesn’t like her that way

Bloom always playing the victim and always acting like no one suffers as much as she does

using pop music that doesn’t fit the tone of the scene at all (and also ruining one of my fav songs)

Alfea basically turning into every garbage teenage high school Netflix ever had

Everyone acting as if Beatrix is super smart and a good spy even tho she sucks at it without end (why would you try to get as much attention as possible?? and kill your accomplice???)

no other planets but realms and still here everyone knows that California is part of America because americans aren’t full of themselves at all. Just replace California and America with anything else. :)

fire is somehow effective against BURNED creatures (e.g. throwing water filled balloons at a mermaids)

all telling and no showing (expositions + no flashbacks = BORING)

Sky being so obessed with Bloom that he doesn’t care that she drugged him at one point

Dane’s character doing a 180 out of nowhere for plot convenience

Stella being a threat to other students but no one seems to care

the good ol’ the bad guys aren’t really bad but in the end turns out they are and the good guys were the good guys all along plot twist that we have seen a million times on netflix alone

Sky not having trust issues after Bloom spiked the water bottle and just accepting that she felt the need to drug him

Sky having daddy issues and that being treated as his main character trait

using phones all the time but when it’s important suddenly no one got a phone with them

beatrix drags a random “bad  boy” into her evil plan because that was ever a good thing to do but kills her only partner that already had the trust of FaRa

Sky still persuing Bloom even tho he knows that Stella could blind Bloom because she can’t control her powers and even threatens to do so - again no one saw a problem with that??

Bloom being one of the worst liars out there but Aisha is like “wow, you are a great liar” like no bitch you literally had to help her five seconds ago

Stella blinding her best friend being one of the most underwhelming plots I have ever seen (I mean how can a show fuck it up so bad that a literal girl blinding her best friend doesn’t interest me?)

no one can have an interesting storyline because there is the slight chance that they could outshine the real star (bloom)

^therefore most sideplots are super shallow or just boring

SKIN IM BOUT TO BUY A 3DS WHAT POKÉMON GAMES SHOULD I PLAY IVE ONLY PLAYED BLACK AND POKÉMON GO.

oh man oh boy, personally i recommend omega ruby or alpha sapphire if you haven't played a gen 3 game (ruby, sapphire, emerald), theyre probably the most faithful and visually beautiful remakes ive ever played!!! plus it significantly improves on a bunch of new features introduced in X and Y that came right before it, like mega evolution and pokemon-amie (stupid name, but its the mini game where you can feed and pet your lil buddies!!!) plus the post-game is one of the best!!! it also introduces the DexNav, which lets you sneak up on pokemon you can actually see in the overworld, which at the time was a very big deal. The soundtrack? Fire. The intro sequence when you first start a new game? Fire. the map? maybe a lil too much water in the latter part of the game, but it’s FIRE. gen 3 did so much for the franchise with introducing new landscapes, weather, unique environments not seen in any other pokemon game. people CRIED when OR/AS first came out, because it’s like a love letter to the original games while introducing so many cool new features it felt like an entirely new adventure while DRIPPING with nostalgia, they’re so fun!!!

if Hoenn doesn't suit your style, or you want to start with something more original than a remake, another good place to start on 3DS is Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon!! those are the gen 7 sequels, theyre Very similar to sun and moon but imo enough improvements to cinematics and story (and pokemon available!!!) are made that it would save you the time of playing sun/moon first while still getting the full taste of the alola region!!! you can customize your player character which fuckin rules, AND without spoiling anything, if you play US/UM youll recognize some things from pkmn Black!!! gen 7 is visually stunning and has some of the best NPCs in the franchise, and is just super fun and rewarding to explore every nook and cranny. it's actually worth it to talk to the NPCs you see around bc sometimes it'll trigger little stories to play out or side quests to do, which is pretty unique for a pokemon game!!! it made the world feel richer, and lived in, very cool. BUT the Alola region is unique compared to other regions because they don't follow the Gym League Circuit model all the other ones do, they do what's called the island challenge!!! S/M and US/UM are structured differently (although not TOO differently) than any other game, so it's refreshing, but if you're looking for a more classic experience maybe start somewhere else first.

X and Y are near and dear to my heart, but it was a big transition from 2D to 3D, so they aren't as "polished" as the games that came after. hate to say it, but although X/Y introduced mega evolution in the first place, OR/AS does it better. They're still really fun though!!! they're the first games in the franchise where you can customize your player character, and the Kalos pokedex has a GOURMET selection of pokemon. gen 6 was the first game to really amp up the variety of pokemon available before the national dex is unlocked, mostly because this was the first time people were seeing their favs in full 3D, so they wanted to include as many as possible. the post-game is very lackluster, but the sheer VARIETY of mons makes replayability pretty high and enjoyable. there are 593 different pokemon available in x and y more than ANY OTHER GAME (besides swsh im pretty sure?) like. holy shit, right? you can build ANY team in that game, endless possibilities. plus im really fond of the characters they introduce, they’re so unique and adorable and dare i say..... found family???

i know you didnt ask about this specifically so feel free to ignore this part, but 3DS pokemon games can be pretty expensive, however they are VERY easy to pirate, and run great on most computers!!! you can even play the older games, gen 5 and below, on a non-apple smart phone with little to no issues!!! im pretty technologically inept and even I could figure it out, so if you want tips on emulation to get that sweet sweet pokemon content for free, i can help with that too <3
